Hello =)
I personally leveled 11 characters, because I love make skins when the level reaches 80.
“If you have max-leveled more than 5 characters, you can buy an experience scroll granting 60 levels.”
I totally agree =) because I’m bored to leveling, I just want make more and more skins !
Aaaah it burns!!!! 11 characters. I admire you.
Commander icons for tier-suggestion.
Don’t take the design serious, its very simple…
Nice
@ Chris/ArenaNet:
Last post of the day for me now: I read through your suggestions for making specific threads per area, but I think this has both advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages being that you’ll be able to talk about specific subjects in their own area, keeping it rather orderly.
Disadvantages being that some issues at hand aren’t part of one specific area, but are present in each domain (grind problematic / ascended gear / the existence of zergs / achievements and several similar subjects).
I came up with one thought:
- Create a communication forum
- Make subforums for every domain of the game AND a general forum.
- In subforums make one post per big issue that has specific impact
- In general forums make one post per big issue that has general impact
I don’t know if this would take a lot of work, but sounds like the most analytic and organized way to handle this.
Hi Chris,
I still attest this is an odd thread, maybe just the tone of the first post is confusing. Since you guys seem serious about it, I’ll make a constructive suggestion.
It’s definitely true that many issues have been resolved. An example is magic find – the previous implementation was generic and caused a lot of animosity; the newer iteration is well designed, a lot more open to the community and resolves the previous issues. There are a few things however, which are raised time and time again but there is little dev response on these. Even if you guys are working on solutions, how about just creating high level threads acknowledging the problem, what the community thinks about it and peoples ideas for solutions. Even if said ideas raised are not considered, having a place on the forums which shows the developers acknowledge the issue and are showing they want to resolve it, will solve so many conspiracy threads and help resolve so much of the negative feedback on these forums. Examples of higher level topics which are raised over and over again:
Ascended Gear
- Weapons based on crafting or unlikely RNG drops. No skill based achievement patterns.
- Trinkets based on repeating content multiple times which is not ideal for all players due to requirements of content, such as being in a large guild. No crafting or skill based individual content.
- No ascended backpieces or accessories in wvw (accessories have same cost as PVE, no badge cost)WVW
- Accound bound ranks
- Server imbalance
- T1 > Tarnished Coast > T2 > coverage = main factor in deciding matchups
- Class balance focused around pvp where perma stealth and banner revving not a problem, yet is ignored in terms of wvw balance.
- Bloodlust buff creating unfair and artificial advantages
- Power creep in passive buffs (bloodlust, guard stacks, world health bonus etc)PVP
- Lack of game modes
- Community dropping off
- Balance issues (Jonathan did a good job highlighting coming changes, but little is discussed to do with toning down over the top elements which are ruining the current meta)
- No rewards or incentive for high level play with current meta/lack of teamsFractals:
- Fractal level being character bound instead of account bound
- Unable to salvage fractal weapons
- Lower general rewards than open world pve yet higher difficulity
- Artifical scaling in terms of mob health
- Best rewards (unique skins) being RNG basedGeneral PVE
- Too much temporary content
- Bleed cap/generally bad to use condi builds for team play
- Imbalanced rewards/risk/effort. For example, fire ele vs shatterer
- Precursor system totally based on rngDevon used to do a great job in posting in the WVW forums, usually once a week he would go through and address a number of points. I don’t blame him for stopping this with the animosity caused by Bloodlust, but it was an example and people respected him for it. It’s simply a case okittennowledging there may be a potential issue and putting it out there to see how people respond. Even just creating a single thread, for discussion, once a week, with a dev post every 2 days, would do SO MUCH to help some of the anger on these forums – which again does not come from all users, but is noticeable in pockets of users which then grows larger with more and more negative feedback cycles. Also splitting the suggestion forum into a pvp suggestion forum, wvw suggestion forum, general suggestion etc will make that less of a mess.
By the way, the balance devs have stated multiple times before they only read the sPVP forum section and do not read the class forums – yet a lot to do will balance will show in the class forums as the game isn’t just pvp. The only time we see posts in the class forum seems to be regarding bugs. A ‘State of the Mesmer’ etc thread once a month by a balance dev would be nice… you never know, we may teach them a thing or two about the class in the progress. There is only 8 classes, creating 8 threads explaining the current state of the class, what is too strong/needs work shouldn’t be too much work…
I strongly suggest reading this post, although it may be a bit negative, some points are valid.
Hi All,
So back to the matter at hand. Through reading the posts i think it would be really useful for me to start a thread like ‘name one thing you would like to see improved in Guild Wars 2’ and then start riffing with you all on these subjects matters and try to make a more meaningful connection with you all that way by which we can define a process together for Collaborative Development?
I am also going to ask that we build out more time for team members to post and i will follow up with you all on that.
What do you think, does this sound like a good way to move forward?
Chris
Hello Chris,
I for one would welcome a discussion thread like that and I hope a lot of the people in-game will do this, no matter which perspective they speak for. Lets hope a lot of good comes from it!
Primarily the monetization of the game, secondly, the crafting process (from gathering to finished product).
I’ve spent plenty of money on vanity items and perma-gathering tools, etc. But (I can hear them now, Vayne and everyone are going “oh god, here he goes again”), when I step out of Lion’s Arch to focus on crafting something, I want to move towards it with confidence.
Confidence that I can gather those materials I need, that I can seek out their sources and if necessary farm those sources until I have what I need. I don’t want to feel like getting 250 Armored Scales is impossible compared to farming gold to buy them. In the long run, that is what I wound up doing. I farmed scarlet invasions and before that the Crown Pavillion until I had 300gold with which I simply bought the remaining T6 mats that I needed for my legendary gifts, simply because it is unrealistic to play casually and gather 250 of each material the traditional way. I’d like to gather the materials without feeling like I’m taxed 15% to do so.
I’d like to adventure my way to a legendary. Not buy my way. Not gamble my way. I’m probably the only person on Yak’s Bend that thinks Ascended Weapons crafting is the best thing to happen to crafting ever in this game. You can gather materials reliably, without Diminishing Returns limiting you. If I want to take my characters and run through all the zones in the game 8 times to gather all the soft wood logs that I can get, I can do that.
Hi Neural,
This is definitely an area we should discuss as one of the topics, specifically the perception around goal completion in regard to the gem store. This is certainly an area of the game that i think about a lot.
I am looking forward to collaborating with you moving forward and thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Chris
Personally I feel the focus in this game has, sadly, been directed too often toward economy and not often enough toward the playing itself. I understand some people want a goal, but I can barely contain why farming money should be that goal.
The main reason people play a game is to have fun. That can be on a short term, or a long term. Short term is for me having an incredibly fun experience doing a jumping puzzle or fighting of 20 enemy players in WvW with a group of 5.
Long term fun I see in terms of character development.
In guild wars 2 character development is:
- Legendary
- Ascended gear
- Skins
- Achievements
For me: Legendary is a gold grind, Ascended gear is a time-gated content that focuses too much on PvE players for acquisition, but influences WvW on a large scale (I hear notion of 20% more strength than people with a full exotic set?). Skins personally are fine for me, but I think you should get them from a real challenge, not from farming champions with a zerg of 50 players, killing the champion in 30 seconds OR from farming gold. Achievements in itself are just numbers and don’t provide a goal to me.
So basically I don’t have any long-term goals in this game or any feel of progression, and I think this is one of the core problems the community on these forums experience.
The gem store as Neural finds it, I don’t have any issue with. Either work for gold a day or two for that feature you want or just buy gems in real life. None of the things in the gem store are actually needed for playing the game, so no matter. The matter of gold and everything in this game being about farming one currency or another… is a grave issue to me.
Let me hear your thoughts on this! I look forward to it
- Boost tactics: make auto-attacks less powerful and prevent anymore than 50 players on one map per server.
- Make more maps or bigger ones
- Delete bloodlust
- Make upscaled characters have the same strength as max-level
- Add various capture points in key locations for every tower and keep that need to be fought for and held.
Best.
News.
Ever.kisses Devon on both cheeks
Finally, I’ll reward this news with starting to buy gems again. Finally something to look forward to again in WvW!
I’ll do so WHEN they release it. Lol. Not anytime before, else they think you’re buying gems for something else.
What ever costs them less money and consumes less time is what will be approved. How many people and time do you think it takes to create a weapon model, paint it and put bigger numbers on it?
I bet it’s one guy on his lunch breaks.
I recently started using blender, a program which allows you to create your own 3d models for games. I’m really shocked by how easy it is to do so, I’m able to create a full 3d model after playing around with it about a week for an hour a day max. Really, creating 3d armour models is rather easy if you are an adept on modelling.
You can view the program @ www.blender.org
Never heard of ascended did you Talyn?… sucks to be you.
Hello all, I would like to recommend a practical item addition to the game, as a suggestion to arenanet. I have played this game since launch, but the last 2 months I have barely played at all.
My history runs as follows:
- August 2012: Started the game with a human ranger, a sylvari warrior and an asura engineer.
- September 2012: Deleted the ranger at level 30.
- November 2012: Leveled asura engineer to level 80. Warrior level 50.
- December 2012: I got my sylvari warrior to level 80 aswell.
- February 2013: I leveled a charr thief to 80 with crafting (took me ~40g).
- March 2013: Leveled a human elementalist to 80 with crafting (+40g) and deleted sylvari warrior.
- April 2013: Leveled a human guardian to 80 with crafting (+40g)
- June 2013: Leveled a charr warrior to 80 with crafting (+50g).
- July 2013: Leveled a charr mesmer to 80 with crafting (+60g) and deleted asura engineer and charr thief and started leveling asura thief.
- August 2013: Stopped playing the game out of boredom and gear grind.
In total… I have spent some 230 gold on leveling characters and approximately another 100-200 gold on gearing them all in exotic.
My suggestion: Add experience scrolls to the gem store and sell them for a gem price equivalent to around 50 gold. A lot of players are bored of leveling characters because:
- The PvE world is nearly empty in level 30-70 zones.
- In WvW you get insta-killed by level 80 players.
- You get kicked or not invited for dungeons that are your level (only level 80s?!).
- Crafting is really, really boring.
My idea for not allowing dummies at end-game content:
- If you have max-leveled1 character, you can buy an experience scroll granting 20 levels.
- If you have max-leveled 2 characters, you can buy an experience scroll granting 30 levels.
- If you have max-leveled 3 characters, you can buy an experience scroll granting 40 levels.
- If you have max-leveled more than 5 characters, you can buy an experience scroll granting 60 levels.
In total, this leaves 20 levels to learn your class, for really experienced players. Like myself.
!!!! I want to focus on this point: do not make the count on the number of max-leveled characters a player has, but on the number of characters a player has leveled (even if he deleted them afterward). Personally I have deleted my level 80 sylvari warrior, my level 80 asura engineer and my level 80 charr thief, but in total I have leveled 3+4 (7) characters to level 80. !!!!

Personally I would opt for ascended items that don’t have stat boosts, but allow out-of-combat switching of stats. At the moment they seem like a forced grind and I oppose this kind of action.
Thanks for the responses. I’m in EU timezone sadly, so will look on a while longer. Also, not sure if there are still many small team actions, Paigey. If you find one, let me know, and of course if any pop up here, you can join in
Good luck!
Very nice aswell.
I’m personally not a big fan of Living story, but hey, everyone does what they like I guess?
…Yawn…
A summary of the game at this moment. ^^
I just wish World Exploration would carry over to new characters. It annoys me to no end that I have to explore the entire world again on alts.
I’d like it if Anet sold a couple of leveling items in Gem Store:
- If you have 1 level 80, you can use a scroll giving you 20 levels on your next alt.
- If you have 2 level 80s, you can use a scroll giving you 30 levels on your next alt.
- If you have 3 level 80s, you can use a scroll giving you 50 levels on your next alt.
- If you have 4 level 80s, you can use a scroll giving you 60 levels on your next alt.
This gives an experienced player 20 levels left to learn his class and then he can start having the real fun.
Sure, make everything account-bound and make stats linear with levels (e.g. your level 1 armour gets max stats when you’re level 80).
Collateral? xD Best use of the word possible. :P Good job @OP
All the leagues are pointless. When winning is determined by coverage, it means nothing.
Fact.
Mhmm… in my opinion anything more than 60 players on 1 map per server becomes a really unplayable experience. Tons of disconnects and skill lagg. 40-40-40 is just about playable.
Amazing. Thank you for listening to the community.
Hi All,
(snip)
Chris W
Hello Chris and the other ArenaNet developers
I get it that you want us to have some patience while you progress this game to a higher level, but some of the changes we have seen were lower quality content than the original game. I’m willing to wait off a few months and come back after that to see if the game got better, by making these added features better or adding more.
At the moment however I don’t see that happening with ascended (because everyone who doesn’t get them will be at a disadvantage) and living story (so much missed temporary content).
I hope you read this, because I really am a fan of Guild Wars 2, but so many parts of the game lack motivation to play. WvW doesn’t define personal skill or group skill, but instead selects victory based on the number of WvW players you have on your server.
PvE is generally a mass experience on end-game… 80 people fighting 1 boss… I really feel like I meant something killing him using auto-attack and standing in one spot (not). Spvp is just meaningless overall, because it doesn’t connect to the other parts of the game.
BUT – and that’s important – most of the other content is absolutely genius (jumping puzzles are awesome, the landscapes are magnificent, the combat itself is rich, easy to handle and certainly not static… and so forth and so forth.
Yours sincerely,
A (once) devoted GW2 player
I’m ready to buy an expansion.
I’m ready to keep on getting mini expansions for free!
Mini-expansions with content that either makes the original game worse or brings nothing of notice…
They did add a lot of DEs early on but it wasn’t met with fanfaire.
No tolling of alarms? +1 to anyone who gets that
I would prefer less zerg lootfest events and more story driven, interesting events that are more akin to quests. I’m a little over killing wave after wave of mindless mobs to fill my bags with useless vendor trash.
Indeed. The game doesn’t have any objective.
WvW is war….there is no “fairness” in war.
What’s that supposed to mean? Go back to PvE if you don’t want balance. Last time I checked, WvW is PvP (player vs player). I don’t know about PvE but PvPers don’t care about just winning. They want to win with a challenge. That means the possibility of losing which makes it fun and challenging. I have never seen a PvP game promoting unbalance as a core philosophy that was successful.
+1
Imagine a completely new person walking their way into Orr. Imagine the rage that would be generated by the said person on the forums. Levels serve their purpose as a tutorial with increasing difficulty.
This is a totally wrong reason. Tutorials exist for that matter. GW2 is not a hard game at all to master.
I find myself agreeing with the idea of making the competition not between servers, but between factions/guilds/alliances. Would encourage non-zerg behavior and fix blobs.
I’m looking for a server with a lot of small group roamers, possibly no zergs or as few as possible. I’m totally disgusted by the blobbers.
That’s the illusion of competitiveness Anet wants you to believe. But actually it’s not that you ‘probably’ wont win. You won’t period. There might be 1 or 2 servers that are so close in population it could go either way with their two particular slots but otherwise everything is 100% predetermined before the season even starts. The statistics are already set, the season is just playing them out.
The issue isn’t that leagues will ruin WvW or anything. It’s that they’re trying to build something competitive on a foundation that is fundamentally and completely noncompetitive. It’s that they’re sort of an epic joke or pun on competitiveness.
If they wanted to fix up PPT and 1v1v1 dynamics to make things competitive, cool; but they don’t. Building leagues on a currently meaningless system is a complete joke.
Well said.
The test will be the extent to which the rankings change over the course of the League. If the only changes are a small number of single place adjustments and a couple of lower placed servers that race up the league because they got stacked by ex-T1 guilds, then the league will have truly failed. Still, we get 7 weeks to see how it plays out.
I don’t believe anything significant will take place during these leagues. There are always servers that have a bit less coverage one week, and they will probably drop a little, and servers with a lil more coverage than usual will rise… for the rest… the tier 1 servers will probably steamroll every other server and win the league. End of story. Hail blobbers… gah.
I haven’t quit playing but I’m ignoring ascended stuff. If I get it as a drop ok, otherwise, meh. Not getting on that hamster wheel.
This^^
If Ascended gear becomes an issue for me and I can’t get it by normal play (i.e. fighting in WvW) – then I’ll just quit. There are other games.
Same. But I actually already have quit, ascended won’t make much difference in the huge imbalance WvW is at this moment… zergfest, gah.
IF you bring cantha, don’t make us grind from level 1-80. kitten leveling altogether.
Why would you have to start a new char for Cantha?
IMO the only possible playable races that would have starter zones in Cantha would be human and tengu.
Their personal stories would be completely different from Tyria’s personal story and this is what is going to be super hard to implement. Things such as knowing when to crossover to the original story of fighting Zhaitan would be difficult to decide.
IMO I would rather have a personal story where you are rebelling against the current Emperor in Cantha.
If cantha brings new classes… you’ll need a new character.
nah in wvw having a legendary is like having a giant arrow above your head with sign: “I did a lot of pve, please kill!”
Spoken like a true PvP player. Maybe hope is not lost yet…
As for me…
legendaries: naaaah, I don’t play games to farm 2000gold
ascended: naaaah, I don’t play games to farm 70g per gear piece and get time-gated.
(edited by Sirendor.1394)
I wonder if they are still trying to fix it, its maybe the most frustrating problem in the game.
And Karolis, I said my group was 20 people and in Large open world battles that is not a blob.. And 40 defenders for Stonemist Castle is normal too. The game advertises itself as a large open map where you can play massive wars..
I am sorry but if you do 10 v 10 its not a big war..
I do agree with you if the enemy has 60+ people in a group, that is just horrible.
But 20 v 40?Maybe remove Stonemist Castle?
It’s not just on eternal battlegrounds, it’s on borderlands just as much.
I play in EU and i got lags only when there is big 3-way fight.
But skill-lags happen more often. Sometimes you need 10vs10 to have skill lag because there is somewhere a big fight on the map.
You dont need to be in that fight to have skill-lags. Many times there was a big fight at south bay, but i had skill lags at woodhaven when there was nobory around and i tried to cast swiftness.
Yeah, the skill lagg here in EU is happening rather often lately. Last time I logged in WvW and GW2 (a week ago) I got disconnected 3 times in 10 minutes during a very standard 30v20 battle.
The competitive element of this game all but alive. The imbalance is one of the core reasons for that and this issue is caused by Anet, not by the players.
Omg I like it. Very interesting and innovative idea.
I just always assume the plot is to kill/enslave us all.
Perhaps that’s my inner warrior, ask questions later.
Detects psychopathic symptoms. Reads signature. Confirms.
No I’m joking ^^
It looks like a grawl who got stuck inside a bush.
I thought we established that Guild Wars playstyle and fans were irrelevant in Guild Wars 2 back in November 2012…
Actually we established Guild Wars 1 players who share your play style don’t seem to be happy. I, however, play this game much the same way I played Guild Wars 1 and I can’t do that with almost any other MMO.
Wait and you’re the guy that played Guild Wars 1 for 1 year? Lol. You don’t know what GW1 is.
Sequels are always bad
Kudos for that. A lot of games with sequels stray from the original game and make it rather boring.
Even if I wanted to spend my time in front of a crafting station for a few days…. I think about 5% of the population can actually afford 1 full ascended gear [about 60-70 gold per armour piece and weapon]. A total of easily 600+ gold.
And that’s just 1 build for 1 character… bye bye alts? :/
its “just” very alt-unfriendly if you intend to lolPvE your whole time
now if you intend to also play WvW, it becomes alt-hostile
WvW grasps alts, chews on them and then spits them out. PvE merely swallows them. :P
Interesting idea, but I think we are past this point already. A lot of people won’t run dungeons anymore EVEN if they are made 5x harder, just because it would still be a repetition, though with a few other options, but no new plots or tunnels or entrances are found that could make way for some new experiences.
Definitely not alt friendly.
A re-released GW1 with shinier graphics and a full team with passion behind it.
+1
+1 to your +1
+1 to the +1 you gave the +1 for the other guy’s idea
In short, I would very much like an updated GW1 with better graphics and a few GW2 features. Lets call it Guild Wars 1.5, shall we?
which other MMOs had JPs? None
Well thank god for that. They’re horrible.
Without reading the entire third+ page of back-and-forth arguing, I’d like to chime in here and say that I love the jumping puzzles. They’re fun, and I’ve never felt more accomplished in a game than I did when I reached the top of the Mad King’s Clocktower last year. I hope they bring it back again.
Jumping puzzles are magnificent. Best part of this game aswell. Just think about all those incredible experiences. <3
Apart from that… a lot of this game is rather annoying. Dungeons are an endless repetition, after doing them 100+ times you get reaaaally bored. Dynamic events don’t have any real impact on the world and reward players badly. Champions are a zerg-fest, not an unique boss fight. WvW is a zergfest aswell, no tactics. Personal story is cliché and bland. The gear system… is rather useless; needing different armour sets for different builds? That’s just bad managing. Also ascended gear is a totally unecessary addition. Structured PvP has no progression. So overall PvP is rather disappointing. Living story has no impact and feels like filler (carrot/stick) content. Achievements are numbers without a meaning.
The lore however (that is, the racial backgrounds and world) is incredible and unique!
The combat is one of the smoothest in any game I played.
The classes, especially engineer, are unique and feel useful.
The fact you don’t need specific healers is also very nice, but it’s sad that the pure damage output is stronger than any other build.I’m sure you would get mired of anything after doing it 100+ times. The dungeons for me are the best dungeons I’ve experienced in a MMO, because it’s like they took the legendary dungeons of DDO and made them better (ie not the same puzzles over and over again).
There isn’t supposed to be any progress in sPvP, it was intended that way. Do you play DotA for ‘progress’?
Sure dungeons in this game were really good, but there are waaay to few. In the – what is it – 1 year and 2 months this game has been out, how come we didn’t get any new dungeons (apart from living story ones, that disappeared after 2 weeks)?
SPvP: it’s just not worth playing at all. And I don’t play DotA, LoL and various similar games for the same reason.
Guild wars 1 with guild wars 2 graphics, jumping puzzles, open world and combat.
Hey folks,
The addition of the bonus WXP for laurels/badges is simply intended to give WvW players an additional option they can spend their laurels/badges on, it is not intended to fix any issues with alts and WxP.
We’re aware of, and actively discussing the amount of progression we’ve added through WxP and the difficulty for playing multiple characters as a result. When we make changes to help address alts/WxP rank, we’ll make sure to specifically call out the change is to help address that issue.
Do that for Ascended gear you love so much as well. As it stands you are making the most Alt unfriendly game in history. STOP WITH THE GRIND.
/agree
I think its easier to go the other way.
Things GW1 can take from GW2:
The graphics.
Z axis.
….
….
….
Yea that’s it.
Am I the only one who reinstalled Guild Wars 1 cause of the disappointment Guild Wars 2 is? If not, you can contact me there as Vael Strongbow (restarted completely)!
