Need to try to get a lot of these skill points when Temples are uncontested and their associated statues no longer rain their havoc over the land.
Agreed. Melandru’s brambles are a pain when the temple is contested.
Luckily (over the last few nights on Tarnished Coast server anyway) I was able to complete all Orr maps, including SPs and temple karma vendors during coordinated, public raids.
Thank you TC community! (Your server may vary.)
For the last couple days I have been acquiring gear for a condition build following suggestions from a regular forum poster – Lopez ( http://lopezirl.com )
The Rabid trinkets at the Dwayna temple fit nicely with the Rabid armor. But there are only 4 pieces of rabid armor at the Temples. You have to get the chest and boots elsewhere. Khibron chest and boots cost 21g and 13g respectively on TP so maybe the dungeon versions are easier for you.
I made the Mystic scepter in the MF today. Still struggling with paying 7g each for a dagger and staff. (I am a miser I guess).

If solo PVE, try short bow with a condition build. Let your pet tank; you plink away from the flank. Non-stop killing/harvesting.
In events, Longbow is best for tagging multiplke mobs with barrage. Be warned though… aftert the speed of shortbow you will feel very slow using a longbow.
I agree with Joey about checking the Ranger forum. There is a sticky thread for people to post their builds. There are plenty of web sites with examples.
There is no BEST way except your way.
Tom (OP) said, “…were talking PVE.”
So let the pet hold aggro and the player does the damage.
On land, brown bear is the best tank. Soaks up damage, absorbs conditons.
Low damage, but very tough.
Devourer as a tough ranged back-up
In water, armorfish. Same philosophy.
Jellyfish as backup. And, of course, ranger with a speargun is a high damage machine.
You wanna talk WvW, that is a whole different thread.

I just want to thank you for the guidance on a power build. The new gear set up seems to work pretty well. I did not have the currency (badges, laurels) to get everything, but am pretty close.
For grins I went to Orr and aggroed the Dwayna prietess and later a champ in Cursed Shore. With other folks plinking for DPS, I could pretty much hold my position within wells. Health regenned very quickly. Heals from wells is impressive.
Flipped constantly between D/F and staff so always had new attacks to spam.
I am going to do some dragon runs this weekend to test it out. Lots of damage. Should be interesting.
Thanks again.
@Guzzihero,
Cool idea, wouldn’t it be great!
They had something like that in the HoM for displaying minis, trophies and such. You coul arrange and re-arrange them. Where you had more than were allowed on the display stage, the excess were not should ( that would have to be :“fixed”).
Cool idea!
@Dolan,
Actually the max human female is a bit taller than the min morn female (see the graphic I posted earlier).
@Danikat,
(see the graphic I posted earlier).
You have 5 character slots; try out various classes, races.
Don’t bring bias learned in other games to GW2. It is a new day.
Ask questions here and in map chat (/m) . The communtiy is usually very helpful.
Mesmer really starts to shine about level 40 so be patient. Same with Elementalist.
Necro, personally, is a hoot in PvE, but mesmer or ele in WvW.
Here is an old pic showing the basic racial comparison. Though this is not the personalized attention that you want it might be helpful.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/44575-full-size-comparisons-of-races-and-genders/
What Wolfheart said, lvl 2.
As others have said…
The game is what you make it. So many options that boredom or lack of excitement is in the hands of the player.
Having also looked and not found one, I ended up creating a spreadsheet. You would likely have do the same or code your own database-driven solution. The SumIf function is your friend.
It is cumbersome andf no pretty graphics, but it doesn’t have to be class-dependent, it can be tweaked for sub-80 scenarios and you can copy-paste it to work on another class/scenario.
Not to sound like a smart___, but did you vist the GW2 wiki and search “karma vendor”?
There a risen giants in Orr
This is NOT going to be any help….
I like every class and play each depending on my mood and task. Some classes are easier to play, some do more damage and some are more survivable.
It really depends on what you are planning to do in game which you do not state in your post. PvP? WvW? PvE? Everything?
FYI, mesmer and elem. remain sqishy until lvl 40+. So do not get discouraged there.
Since all lvl 80 exotic gear has equivalent stats why not decide the build you want and buy/acquire following the above suggestions?
Then locate the skin that you want to display?
Just to be technical…
We get 76 Skill Points while leveling (5-80)
There are 202 Skill Challenges granting one SP each
My ranger has spent 178 SPs on skills (are there more/less for other classes? IDR)
So that is 100 “extra” SPs right there.
Then every 250k XP past 80 gains another.
Finally, word is, they can be purchased with Fractal Relics. IDK
Eventually, you may wonder what to do with your accumulated SPs.
@Joe,
from the wiki… http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Karma_vendor
at the bottom of that page are links to all the regional vendors.
Good Luck.
Wow! Thanks for the clues, guys.
Now the next thing.
Example: I have the Krytan armor skin on my ranger I would like to use it also for my thief.
Thinking about it, there probably is not a way to get a second copy of an item, right?
That would lead to cloning Legendaries and such. Ha!
I think there ought to be 3 different ones.
Maybe
Blue bought for gold as they are now
Green earned via WvW playtime and achievements
Red awarded by fellow players and some formula proving WvW leadership success.
Now, you guys, figure it out. :-)
Now that you mention it I have seen low-level characters running arounds Queensdale with high-end armor skins. ’Twould be a nice factoid to know how that was accomplished.
Good question….
Since it is an activity and a couple Influence points are awarded for activities, we should think so.
Maybe someone can confirm.
On a sidenote (and apologies, @naskippy), I stopped doing dungeons with Darkness Falls DAoC. It is a big disappointment that the monthly achievement requires dungeon runs.
Anyone on TC willing to help a newb thru level 1 a few times? Send me a note.
Just another FYI, there are 3 tiers of Jumping Puzzles under the monthly achievement. Total = 30 JPs (not 20).
Maybe the new tier was added this month?
The mini does not refresh with new characters, only the ring and banker do.
The ring referred to here and in other posts must be the Heroes’ Band which was offered as a pre-purchase incentive. It is not part of the Deluxe package (unless it is un-advertised).
Read the lore; it will fill in alot of blanks regarding names, races, locations.
I’m a bit interested in this myself. Where is a good place to do this? I’d rather not read 300 pages of text (unless it’s a really good book) but I could muddle through 20-30 pages of whatever.
One of my favorite sources for Tyria Lore was Wooden Potatoes’ YouTube videos. They are accurate, informative and hilarious.
Here is a link to the lore playlist:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL00553A085339802C
I started using a Logitech G13 gamepad a few years ago. Now I am so used to it that it would hard to return to keyboard/mouse usage. The problem is that it does not have enough buttons on a single configuration. Luckily, it has 3 configs. per profile that can be flipped on-the-fly.
Note: I use the mouse for turning/steering and sometimes targeting (not trying to start an argument, lol).
Alfista has it right. Gold star.
The Guild Wars were the conflict between the 3 human factions, Kryta, Orr and Ascalon. Read the lore; it will fill in alot of blanks regarding names, races, locations.
As also said… guilds in GW2 provide social opportunities, boosts. gear access, added storage.
A single person can form a guild.
Not mine, but you get the idea….
Asura enjoy a good laugh.
Take your pick.
The only bug I have heard about is that #4 (5% chance to grant nearby allies fury, swiftness when you are stuck) does not work. I have a full set on my guardian and never have time to don’t worry about that 5% chance.
Further, as a test I just dequipped and indeed I am missing 50 Power (the #3 bonus).
So there ya go.
And now I have a reason to make the change I was planning sooner than later. :-)
Thanks guys.
If you drop the superlatives, you pretty much have the situation.
Every class is viabl;e, has variations and appeals to different appeals to different personal preferences. So throw out what you know about other games and start something new. :-)
You have 5 character slots; try different classes for about 10 levels so you get a feel for the mechanics. Remember that some classes develop over time (mesmer, thief, elementalist) and these are more difficult to play effectively.
Also try different races. The models, animations, voices and stories vary. You want something yiou can stick with for 80 levels.
Good luck and let us know how we can help.
Feel free to message us or ask in game. On Tarnished Coast there is a helpful community.
Of my 6 80s, ranger was the “easiest” to level —- open-world PvE, no dungeons.
By lvl 20 you will know most of what it can do. Other classes (mesmer and elementalist, for instance) don’t begin to shine until lvl 40+.
We may need to know what you mean by easy.
Where will you play this character – PvE, sPvP, WvW, crafting?
@Revan,
Check your PMs :-)
@Dancin,
What everyone has said is true. Dungeons and sPvP require teams. Depending on class you can roam WvW solo avoiding foe-zergs. Also any class can defend keeps/towers.
@ANet,
It makes me sad that the last mission in personal story requires a group.
(Old whine topic, but still…)
Have never been in such a bind.. good luck.
Can you broadcast a “Rez Please” in /map chat? There’s lots of “noble souls” out and about.
You are going about it the right way (imho) – choosing your stats then cosmetics.
Note:
You could transmute a crafted Valkyrie into any skin using fine transmutation stones for level 80 gear (basic stones for 1-79 gear).
Note:
Use the PVP Locker to find/mix-n-match items then the Wiki or Guildhead.com to identify the corresponding PvE version.
If you happen to be on Tarnished Coast server and have the materials I can craft the items for you. Just message me.
Sooo… what boots did you settle on? I got’s to know! hehe
Having no sense of color or artistic ability I have trouble creating such, but I know what I like when I see it… very good color selection.
Well done.
@kiba,
When completed, please post your final solution (including dyes, hehe). I have to a Norn guardian and want a similar gear set.
Thanks.
As near as I can guess (since you did not list the items, hehe) these are what you have currently chosen:
Helm - PvP Knight’s Helm
Chest - PvP Dark Coat
Shlders - PvP Banded Pauldrons
Hands - PvP Splint Gauntlets
Leggings - PvP Nobleman’s Legguards
Boots - PvP Dark Leggings
Options that might work (opinion only):
PvP Banded Boots
PvP Splint Boots
Dye color may not match.

Just some rambling notes here…
Right now, I play guardian in WvW and leave my ranger and engineer for PvE. If you like dungeons, people say rangers are not appreciated in groups; go figure. (I do not do dungeons so …. idk).
IMO Engineer turret build is ok, but not as effective as a dual pistol condition build(note: Sometimes a rocket/rifle/flame turret can be a panic button when trying to drop aggro and get out of the way.)
Ranger – I went shortbow with GS or axe+warhorn for running around. It is just a non-stop farming/killing machine. A longbow is fine for mob-tagging during events. Bear or devourer for tanking; 7-10 bleeds; poison… rarely have time or need to switch weapons before the mob is dead.
Regarding Charr… have you played one? That loping gait and the voice just wore me out. So-o-o slow(gait) and irritating (voice). That is just me. Asurans, even humans, are quicker and easier to live with long term.
I do hope you are happy with your selections.
Practice definitely. Got to keep those bad guys at a distance!
There’s lots of discussion about Long vs Short bow. All boil down to the situation.
Carry both – longbow for events, sieges (if you WvW); shortbow for roaming, farming, soloing.
After using the shortbow to level my ranger, I cannot return to the longbow without feeling like I am shooting through Jello… rate of fire seems so slow. I still like the weapon skills on longbow, especially knockback.
Re: mesmer.. what you and everyone have said is right – stay at range with GS, clone up and stay on the move, use sword+pistol when feeling bold and dangerous. That class can feel weak until the 30s. For me it was wonderful until 70. Then progress slowed for me (probably lack of interest). Anyway he is finally 80 and parked away farming ori nodes.
Ranger is my favorite class and I have re-discovered the Asura. They just feel speedy.
Good luck and enjoy the game; come here often, the community is quite helpful.
Or feel free to message in game if some issue arises.
(fyi, 6-80s, 2-40s and the rest 20s).
Doh:
last thing… get a bear pet for max protection while you get used to the class and movement.

(edited by Slalom.3174)
I have seen posts about a major Ranger class re-work coming in February.
Can someone provide a source for the changes?
Thanks
Once an item is transmuted it is soulbound so the name hasn’t bothered me.
Recently I made a Berserker’s Sword of Bloodlust. The skin applied was a Ravaging Flame Blade of Something.
When transmuted the name of the sword is Ravaging Flame Blade of Bloodlust.
Same for the armor, warhorn and rifle on that character.
Anet added the ability to see individual completion percentage on hover of the zone name. Use that to figure it out.
That hover feature is sooo cool! (Just shows how easy it is to miss the features of this game).
Only Divinity’s Reach will not display. All other zones are perfect!
Thanks, YSBT! :-)
@Dramor,
Just to confirm, I have not found one either.
Since July I have simply been building a spreadsheet for each class as I level it up.
A new page for each gear level listing possibly desired items and the attributes they offer.
Then simply SumIF cells to total stats by column.
Yes, very tedious, time-consuming and mind-numbing, but it not hard and cut-and-paste is a marvel.
Good luck perfecting your build.
From your other post ( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/help-me-with-gw2/first#post1193755 )
See what I mean about a great community! :-)
Good Luck.
can someone make an asura necromancer and lvl up with a new player teaching me helpful stuff too
ty
You should post your server. :-)
Why must it be Asura (I mean, yes, Asura are best, but why …)?
Why must it be a necromancer?
Why must someone create a new character in order to answer your questions (the community here is very helpful and willing; just ask here)?
Are you looking to be power-leveled?
I wish you good luck.
Vabbi, Eredon Terrace, Ferguson’s Crossing, Sorrow’s Furnace, Ruins of Surmia, and Fissure of Woe
hehehe
Only because these 6 are the bottom of the WvW tiers :-)
That position is not an indicator of preferred interest in PvE.
Once weekly server transfers are free. So you might first start with the servers that a High or Very High capacity. That is what I did until I found a server that was active at nearly all zones and whose community chat did not grossly offend my “sensibilities”.
Good Luck finding a home server. The right guild is even harder.
@MS, That is the correct shape, but not the same color. The one I saw was all white.
But now I have a lead. Thanks.
In Divinity’s Reach yesterday I saw a really nice bow skin wielded by a warrior.
No screenshot is available; it happened too quickly.
The bow skin is a series floating white rocks.
The rocks are sharpened wedges arranged in a bow shape with the larger end pointing to the center of the bow’s arc.
A warrior had the bow so it is a long bow that I saw.
I have check the PVP locker and various websites but have not found this particular skin.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
(the player had one of those very difficult names and he ran off before I could message him).
WvW maps… done them all?
Once you have done all your WPs and Pois, etc. you will likely still have a few map locations to uncover.
Check your Explorer Echievements to see how many locations you have to discover.
You match each map to location lists on various websites (look on the wiki).
This looks like a likely link…. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Explorer-Achievements-Maguuma-and-Shiverpeaks
(edited by Slalom.3174)
I like the Aureate hammer as a low-cost, economy skin. Looks good on a Asuran and a Norn.
