A few of you HoD’ers are gloating and calling people crybabies for pointing out the league flaws. Yea, you are on the lucky end of a system none of us created, congrats.

I felt it would be appropriate to share some HOD quotes from matches prior to leagues when they were losing (Most of these are from the same people calling us crybabies in this thread)

its silly we have to beat GoM both times we play them just to end up tied with them for 4th. GoM has 4 easy weeks while FC has 1.

then if DH beats SF then they are 1-1 to each other, yet DH gets 2nd place because they only played HoD once instead of twice like SF.

the schedule is soooo lame. looking forward this season being over.

Hm, I didn’t think about that but that is a fair point. If you beat us twice, how come we finish tied? Doesn’t really make much sense.

Either way, unless the rewards are drastically different, you probably don’t lose out on anything. You guys will have shown you can beat us and whatever lame ranking ArenaNet has at the end isn’t gonna change that (like the Glicko rating never gave an accurate list of where the servers stand).

Since the league was kind of a breath of fresh air gettin our PvE and WvW players to integrate more, I am glad for it still (of course the downside was all the guilds that transferred due to the league but we were pretty much out of WvW guilds to transfer off).

this was just a response to the question who is going to win DH or SF? And it should be a good fight but as far as place in the league who gives a kitten? Even if DH wins they shouldn’t get 2nd place over SF they should be tied. The actual rankings are bogus so lets just play wvw like always and forget placements.

If anything its a bad thing because FC and GoM fighting over 2nd place instead of trying to take down HoD is exactly opposite of how the mentality of WvW should go. Just my 2 cents.

it wouldn’t hurt smaller groups because no small group has time in combat to rez a defeated player anyway. if you’re that small you need to be fighting not rezzing. if your enemy is weak enough that you can afford to rez a defeated player, then how the hell did the player die to begin with?

+1 I have suggested this before. I’m glad you brought it back up. I hope Anet catches on.

At the same time I also suggested a change to the rally mechanic where in order to rally off a death you must have contributed X% or more damage to that enemy.

So if you go down due to 20 people tagging you none of them will be able to rally if you die because they didn’t do enough damage %, however the smaller group you have the more individual % you contribute to each death meaning higher chance to rally. This change would shift the rally mechanic towards helping the smaller group compete.

lmao @ half of you for generalizing entire servers based on the words/actions of a few individuals.

Especially generalizing strategy and skill in lopsided matchups. It’s easy to keep morale up when you win for 2 months straight and you have a lot more strategic options when everything you own is fully upgraded and defended with superior numbers. Throw a ton of achievement-hunting rally-bait into the mix and it becomes even more worthless to speculate how things would be on even terms. The higher population server is going to have a lot more success recruiting and training new players. The losing servers don’t have the same luxury as PvE players generally hate losing or failing at objectives.

To blame HoD for the imbalance is stupid because it’s Anet’s design, but when a moron does blame HoD, to consider that a reflection of their entire server is equally idiotic.

If HoD goes to silver I hope they get transfers because as of right now they will get destroyed by every server besides NSP/IoJ. On the other hand I hope whichever server replaces HoD’s #1 bronze seed either lost or loses players because as of now NSP/IoJ will be equally as annoying to fight.

But again its kinda pointless to speculate because I think things are going to be shaken up quite a bit after season 1. A lot of T1/2 guilds considering transferring down. Let’s just hope they don’t transfer to top of league like a bunch of kittenes and instead transfer to the lower ranks to smooth out the competition.

it does hit SMC but its tricky to aim it just right.

its also easily countered by one AC as someone pointed out.

also you can jump like 1/2 way up and AoE/Pull the top area.

its not a big deal.

Might be a silly idea, but just for fun I would like to see a matchup between the Gold/Silver/Bronze league winners for the ultimate WvW championship after the season ends.

Might be a predictable result, but never know until you do it.

That wouldn’t change anything due to the coverage difference. The only way to make it some what fair would be to have a match from reset to say midnight as that is the time where the population would be the most comparable. Even then I don’t know if HoD or FA queues all 4 maps on reset all night…

I am aware that a good amount of players are at least considering transferring off of top tier servers after season 1.

Bronze league NA has the best fights but most servers also need some help. If you are considering bronze feel free to reach out for more information. Here’s a quick rundown from my point of view

HoD/SF – they don’t need any help if they stay in bronze. If they go to silver then SF will definitely need some night crew and HoD will need more bodies plain and simple.

DH – has a solid NA prime and night crew for bronze. They seem to lack a bit of experience but continue improving and growing. There is a chance their main night guild may leave the server. It’s just forum drama for now so we won’t know until after the season.

FC – does really well for its population. Has a few really strong and experienced WvW guilds, but when those guilds are not active FC’s general population really struggles to hold its own. Most of the players have been on FC for a very long time.

GoM – has rebounded really well after falling to T8. Not great at defense but a strong offense, however with a few glaring coverage gaps.

ET – the best defensive server pound-for-pound that I’ve seen. They are very effective at defensive siege and holding their own. They can have a strong offense but only in short bursts. A few more offensive guilds would go a long way.

KN – also rebounded well after their implosion. The players left on Kaineng are inexperienced as a whole but it’s not nearly as obvious as week 1. Their day crew is pretty weak but their night/morning crew is as strong as DH’s and will be stronger as they continue to gain experience in Bronze.

AR/DR – needs all the help they can get. Both can field some impressive zergs at times, and then at other times it can be hard to find anyone.

The problem is a large golem rush can cap a keep before the WP opens. That’s why #5.

but I would instead prefer if they just changed contested WP mechanics in general to allow 5 players per minute through or something.

If it’s a tie for 2nd – they both get 2nd place and earn the 2nd place rewards. There is no tie breaker.

Contrary to some people’s opinions the world pop CDI actually DID provide a lot of great content from us to the devs, however the average person did not read through that massive thread and just skimming it you only see the repetitive spam of tired ideas.

The reason this happened is because the devs “waited a few days” to allow the discussion to develop before starting to comment.

Don’t do that – post at least once/twice a day, especially at the start of the thread, to keep the discussion on track and nip any unnecessary sidebars in the bud.

Perhaps instead of invulnerability you gain Iron Hide whenever you’re inside a structure you own?

i dont think pure AoE should take out siege very easily. but defense mastery trait that grants iron hide and stability while on cannons, mortars, or oil might be very useful, because right now a zerg’s AoEs make them almost impossible to use.

I like the idea of this mastery, I would change things a little though;

Remove #3, and move #4 and #5 down to 3 & 4.

5th level mastery would grant invulnerability inside the friendly structure while the gate and/or doors are in tact. This doesn’t mean siege is invulnerable, but this now means you can stand on top of the wall and blast away, both damage and CC free.

that seems a little dangerous. like if you repair the gate behind them then you can god-mode them down?

if an upgrade finishes once they are on inner you can god-mode them down?

if a mesmer ports a group inside you can god-mode them down?

i know what you’re getting at but it would be tricky to implement without major unintended consequences

This may come off as a shock to you, but Iron Hide only works on people on rams. Kill the rams and it won’t take 1 minute and is extended from 1 minute to 30 minutes or even an hour.

iron will is AoE right? so 2 rams gives it to up to 10 people?

1 Defender can easily halt 10 players and make it hell for them, defending should be nerfed. And there should be a mastery that gives you 50% less damage from your beloved ACs. Defending is just too easy.

it takes multiple ACs to be able to be able to defend each common ram/cata spot, and even when they are built and ready then you still have iron hide/will, catas, trebs, counter ACs, ballistas, AoE.

the only thing 1 defender can do against 10 is slow them down, unless the group of 10 is just bad.

But yeah I see where you coming from, defenders need more help against these strong offensive masteries. Ram mastery comes to mind

Something along these lines.

When you spec into Defense mastery you get:

(points are additional not total)

level 1 – 10 points – Gain +50 power, vitality, toughness, condition damage, precision, and healing power while inside a friendly objective

level 2 – 15 points – Repairing walls and gates is twice as effective while the objective is under attack

level 3 – 25 points – Enemy players show on your mini-map during a defense event – 1,000 range.

level 4 – 50 points – Earn additional WxP, Karma, and a chance at loot upon a successful defense event.

level 5 – 75 points – Able to use contested waypoints (limit once per defense event)

the area appears to be about 3 mini-maps in diameter.

it’s plenty big enough unless you’re playing bigger than 25v25

also, there will be no ‘reason’ for anyone to go to this area unless specifically to gvg or spectate or troll. which is basically same as current area except don’t have to worry about those kitten npc mobs.

i was in EB yesterday for about 5 minutes and saw our commander at durios trying to recap it. QL had just been taken by a DH zerg and danelon had just been flipped. So I called out they will be hitting langor. The commander stays at durios until orange swords pop on langor. Then what happens? The commander waypoints the omega to valley keep, and starts WALKING THE GOLEM to langor. Eventually s/he made it to the langor gate JUST in time to get the omega inside before it capped (losing the omega).

then I left EB for the night.

Is there a thread for venting about these turrible golem commanders? If not, there should be cuz I’ve got a million of these stories just from the past few weeks.

but if they don’t get any better i’ll have to man up and start giving them lessons.

LOL, I am the guild leader of LION, give lesson angel, (your not really that good)then my commander would get worse, show respect to all other on FC commander , no matter there style of commanding. and if you dont like there way command, leave, cause trust me that will be no loss if you leave. hey i didn’t name names out of respect. I also didn’t say I was that good or anything. But you should know it’s literally a LOT of people that feel this way. A lot of people (7-8 that I’ve heard myself) actually believe this person is a DH troll trying to mess with us. I have been sticking up and saying no they are trying give them a break.

sounds pretty even I wonder if a lot of that is roamers or what because the most I’ve seen them take is the 10 minutes that they had 2 keeps once.

anyway good fights so far! (except sadly our EB has been consistently commanded by, shall we say, a ‘learning’ commander that has proven terrifically ineffective this week).

I’m guessing you’re talking about the commander that never leaves golems and that commander is the greatest thing that has ever happened to our opponents. I can’t even play in the EB when he/she commands because whoever follows is led to slaughter (usually trying to cap SM with one golem and a dozen or so pugs).

I do have one request: FC doesn’t like the double penetration. So please be gentle and take turns.

as far as FC running away I am the [EDGE] norn female hammer warrior with celestial primevil armor with toxic shoulders that jumps into your zergs headfirst by myself just to troll you. I also built the omegas and led the rush Sunday that destroyed DH BL before commanding a donated golem army that capped Overlook and Lowlands. My guildies are who fully upgraded and defended DH hills, lake, and water for 12 hours. I welcome your hate please send it my way!

But seriously this week I will miss fight night but will be on Wednesday 8-11 CST and all day friday and I am down for some duels if anyone is interested send me a mail in game.

Im going to assume you all ignored my previous post since [Fun] is still playing the victim and others are lapping it up. Dont get me wrong, we are very grateful for their work in WvW, the problem comes outside of WvW and the way they interact with the rest of the server. Simply put they are annoying trolls and have earned themselves the reputation they have, and now Darkhaven is calling them out and they cant handle it and ‘threaten’ to move servers. [Fun] is not like Abys, Abys left because they were tired of carrying the server and not because they were hated on. Hope this clears it up…

If we trolled in the past, it was before we were even into WvW. Either way, any “trolls” we might have done were harmless. Our reputation was practically unknown before we got into WvW, now that we’re one of the main guilds we’ve been getting hated on. We’re not playing the victim, because we don’t really care about the comments in terms of being personally affected. We’re just looking for a calm place to play WvW and get better as a guild, and by doing so we help out whatever given server we’re on. Right now we happen to be on Darkhaven. If Darkhaven doesn’t want us here, we don’t have to be. That’s all we’re saying.

I hope you understand that if you’re able to be disliked on one server then chances are its gonna end up the same on another server.

FC would be happy to test that theory.

We are PvX – we have no requirements. We do a lot of WvW, PvE, dungeons, PvP, fractals, world bosses, guild missions, raffles, lotteries, and other events.

We use our server teamspeak in our own guild channel (and the public channels when in WvW). We have nearly 500 ACTIVE members. It is not at all uncommon for us to have 100+ members online.

We welcome new players and are happy to help them out, and we have a lot of very experienced players in our guild. Our guild includes server TS admin/mods, 15-20 commanders, and the #1 player on the server in achievement points.

many ways to counter a thief they are just not as obvious as fighting other classes.

strafe when he’s stealthed so he can’t get behind you.
anticipate his attacks and use dodges and blocks
use CC’s to control his movement
knock/pull him out of refuge if you have a skill for it
certain class-specific techniques work very well also

put conditions on him before he stealths

the innate issue is that usually its those on the receiving end who leave while the ones causing the issue(s) stick around, ready to cause the same problems for the next group.

on FC I can only think of one particular individual that is consistently this sort of antagonist but he isn’t around a whole lot and the rest of the server all just ignores him.

it is pretty rare nowadays to see any complaining or arguing in map chat or in TS, and for that I am extremely thankful.

With respect you still don’t understand. Population imbalance topic was only partially about how to incentivize spreading out, but moreso about how to make fighting in an imbalanced match more enjoyable, including changes to rewards/loot, outnumbered buff, and how PPT is achieved and calculated.

Some of the ideas in there were fantastic and had nothing to do with blocking or forcing transfers or reducing map limits.

EDIT: you’re focusing on the bad ideas and not sure if you read through all 20+ pages but I did, and there was absolutely some “meat” in there that can work within the current foundation to largely alleviate the issues caused by population imbalance.

In my experience “peacekeeping” online is extremely difficult when people’s egos are inflated x 1,000 behind the safety of teh interwebs.

You should choose a topic that can actually be debated. Server population isn’t something players can discuss amongst ourselves and with developers. All we can do is complain about the imbalance and maybe a small fraction of ideas have any realistic way of being addressed. There just wasn’t anywhere for the discussion to move to. Was just back and forth complaining mostly.

again, wrong. some great ideas were mixed in with all the BS and Anet took note of them.

Just 1. A better kick-off of the topic

What I mean by this is start by clarifying what certain things are “off the table” as well as some of the major factors that need to be taken into consideration.

For example if the OP on population imbalance topic had stated that forcing transfers, blocking transfers, merging servers, and reducing WvW map limits are “off the table” then half or more of the discussion would have been preemptively eliminated, and the average post much more relevant and worth reading.

Dragan there were suggestions amongst the bad ideas that were actually very good.

Out of 100 ideas it doesn’t matter if 99% are bad, if there is 1 great idea and it gets recognized and Anet runs with it, then its a success. I’m sure it was quite a task though to read through all those pages of walls of text to find the good ideas though.

as far as FC running away I am the [EDGE] norn female hammer warrior with celestial primevil armor with toxic shoulders that jumps into your zergs headfirst by myself just to troll you. I also built the omegas and led the rush Sunday that destroyed DH BL before commanding a donated golem army that capped Overlook and Lowlands. My guildies are who fully upgraded and defended DH hills, lake, and water for 12 hours. I welcome your hate please send it my way!

But seriously this week I will miss fight night but will be on Wednesday 8-11 CST and all day friday and I am down for some duels if anyone is interested send me a mail in game.

Sorry, but the only server that pulled out T8 by themselves was GoM. (I’m not counting DR and Kaineng that became bandwagons to leave)

SF pulled out when Anet increased the rating for both ET and FC
HoD pulled out by draining rating from even higher ranker servers when the random matchups started

I like your story bro, but don’t add things that aren’t true.

hahaha GoM has no right to talk about T8 yet. They were T8 for what…. 2 weeks before leagues started? We Fergs were T8 for almost a YEAR! Until August our total match wins was TWO! Then, without any transfers, we recruited PvE’ers from within and restructured TS and other changes while other servers imploded, leading to us winning 4 out of 6 matches prior to season 1 and pull ourselves up out of T8… for good.

The only other server that can claim to have done so with no significant transfers is ET however they went right back to T8.

It used to be ET was the only server we could beat. Now we are comfortable against ET, AR, DR, GoM, and KN. We also beat SF and DH before season 1 but we’d already heavily recruited our PvE base and don’t have a big one to begin with, so once SF and DH took advantage of that same opportunity it definitely gave them a leg up on us.
