Zealous Blade healing

also cleave count

Hmm so Zealous Blade isn’t such a bad trait. I mean in large scale encounters where you can cleave 3 people each swing, getting minimum 3*25=75 hp per swing is pretty decent. Can swing twice per second. Thats 150hp per second just from Auto Attack. And whirling wrath can heal as much as 25*14=350hp if all hits connect?

I might have to consider testing that out.

Thanks

Zealous Blade healing

Spartacus.3192

Hi i have a question on Zealous Blade

It says it heals per attack. Does that mean every “hit” as in GS cleaves 3 targets so does it heal 3 ticks of 25hp for each auto attack swing? And 14 * 25 for each Whirling Wrath if all attacks hit? Or is it just 25 per swing regardless of how many hits you do per swing. (Im using 25 hp but it changes of course depending on your gear).

Thanks

go with 2,6,6,0,0 sword/torch+scepter/focus
you will have 52% bonus dmg if you use blind correctly with flame legion rune and with torch you will have perma burning
its more 1v1 as you dont have nice aoe symbol to pressure enemies around you
i use it mainly in Battle of Kyhlo as sword2 can teleport you into the tower

skill rotations
start with scepter focus to kite a bit and get vulnerability 9 stacks ji+switch weapon to proc weapon swap sigils and blind you enemy and use torch#4 so burning around you and get the kill

good weapon set versus thief, ele, ranger, warrior as blind in the right moment ruin their day
engi, necro just kite with scepter till they use heal skill and burst them with sword

So you take Right Hand Strength as the grand master trait?

I was thinking that a 2/5/6/0/1 Hybrid build using Radiant Fire and GS, Scepter/Torch could be interesting which really boosts your direct damage. With Fiery Wrath and Radiant Power you get 20% extra damage constantly. Radiant Fire gives 20% more burn duration plus Torch skills CD. You can also spam VoJ due to renewed justice.

I might test it out tonight to compare against the 2/0/6/0/6 build i ran last night.

Any thoughts from you experienced Hybrid guards?

Honestly, its because people are putting in the time to test it out and iterate. Anet made the comment sometime long ago that, for a long time, Warriors were not really seen as useful in pvp. They made small changes here and there, but it took more than a month until people really started seeing the power that Warriors could bring. The change wasn’t really caused by any specific change that suddenly made Warriors useful in the eyes of the players, just some time was needed.

This is the case with Condition focused guardians. Its been awhile since Amplified Wrath became a trait. We’ve also started experimenting with different builds and ideas. All its taken was some brave souls to pave the way, and for people now to start really thinking.

Now, there certainly could be a little more done for conditions, but currently, Hybrid builds that are effective are a very strong, positive step.

^ This.

Its the pioneers that decide to try something other than the current Meta that can unlock new builds/specs. isnt that how “new” metas are born?

You don’t use Meds – you use AH, Staff/Hammer & Consecrations. You will burn everyone around you with your Staff Auto.

Build

Basically 2200 condi damage for 883 Perma AoE Burning.

Can also switch into Honor for larger field = more AH healiing on Hammer / Staff Symbol.s

your build doesnt have 2200 condi damage? Am i missing something?

OK so i tested 2,0,6,0,6 Supreme Justice/Permeating Wrath build last night in WvW and Silverwastes using GS and Scepter/Torch . It was pretty effective in Silverwastes when running around solo. Perma burn on every mob around me. Good fun

In WvW T1 Zerg battles (again it was easily 30+ in the enemy zerg). I was definitely squishier than my AH/EM GS/Hammer build that i normally like to use. And way squishier than an AH/EM Staff/Hammer build. I felt it was extremely selfish (like all medi builds). So much so that i didnt even bother to join a party because i felt i was taking up a guardian slot while providing no support).

Look at the self sustain difference. All you get is Meditation heals. With AH/EM GS/Hammer, (i have over 40% crit chance). My EM procs every second (1 sec internal cd) and running a shout/inspired virtues build im throwing boons around like candy so healing always. Plus dodge roll heals of around 600hp (on my gear setip) plus higher passive regen from VoR. So much better for Zerg battles.

However I definitely felt more comfortable running hybrid when solo (running from spawn to join zerg)

I think i will test some more because i like the concept of Hybrid. If only Amplified Wrath was not a grandmaster trait and Permeating Wrath not targeted around yourself and instead around the target. Then we would start to have a lot of fun.

If you do hybrid Meds, then havok and other small scale will work just like it does in pvp.

Saiyan has the right idea for Zergs though. with permeating wrath (and supreme justice if you’re ballsy) you can pretty much guarantee everyone will be on fire. Let them waste their cleanses while you just auto attack and do your thing.

The problem im finding is to trait permeating wrath and supreme justice and fight real T1 sized (easily 40+ zergs), i dont think you can get enough toughness/sustain to survive inside the zerg in order for permeating wrath to do its thing.

Ive used supreme justice with GS Scepter/Torch medi hybrid build and that works totally fine against huge zergs because you can use the Scepter from range (3 attacks proc passive VoJ burn) and then just pick your target switch to GS and leap in to finish them off. But with Permeating wrath you need to be up close and personal the whole time for the AOE burn to be of any use in which case you will get 5-10 enemies immediately focus on you.

How i wish Permeating Wrath procced at target location and not around me.

Guardian was my first (and so far only level 80 toon). I love it. Its always in demand for dungeons and WvW groups. Yes the mobility sux (i use Traveller runes in WvW to overcome that) but its still a very fun and rewarding class to play.

Having said that im also slowly levelling my second toon (warrior) now and the raw damage is pretty amazing and the mobility is eye popping. It will take some time to get it to 80 since i dont play my war every day but it will be interesting to compare them both once i do.

How many Guardians do you have?

Spartacus.3192

It’s more convenient for me to not have to carry around 4 different armor sets depending on what I want to do. And also some people just like to have multiple characters of their favorite class.

I don’t really see what the problem is with that.

There is no problem . im just finding the convenience argument not so convincing. I can swap gears and traits faster than it takes to go back to the character select screen, change toons and then having to Waypoint to wherever i am meant to be. Even worse if you happen to be in WvW (where i spend 80% of my time) when there is a long queue to get in. If you swap toons you have to queue again (which lately has been taking over 10 min)

Also carrying multiple sets has never been a problem, just get nice big bags.

But again its not a problem. People can of course do what they want. I just see no actual “convenience” benefit to having multiple toons of the same class in this game except for the pleasure of having diff races/gender etc which is totally fine of course.

So they are OP because you always see a Warrior in every team? By that definition then Guardians, Warriors, Necros and Eles are OP because they form 80%-90% of a guild’s composition who is serious about zergbusting and GvGs.

Or maybe because, Warriors are actually the most popular class? At around 16%? Even when they were underpowered? Rangers are the 2nd most popular class, yet nobody really considers them apart of the GvG meta. So seeing a certain class in a “team” many times is a poor indicator of a class being overpowered, in a lot more different ways than a popularity contest.

Sigh if you read what i actually wrote it was that warriors were ridiculously OP “BEFORE” the adrenaline nerf. I didnt say they still were but they are also not absent in WvW they are very very common in WvW and do very well in there.

I dont hear anyone saying “oh no not an underpowered Warrior, we dont want him in our team.”

And some teams even running double engi, double ele. Then the last spot either being filled out with Mesmer, Necro, Warrior or Guardian.

I was referring to WvW. I always see a warrior in every team ive been in and still do. Guard, War and Necro in every party.

There’s no point in running a warrior anymore. Just roll a guardian. They do everything better. There’s basically no reason to run a warrior in WvW other than for running away with GS.

Guardians have massive damage, aegis, blocks, blinds galore, in-vulnerabilities, protection, regen, crazy sustain, better team support, etc.

Just do what I did and roll a guardian to save yourself a headache. You’ll win 99% of every duel if you use a DPS scepter/focus+GS meditation build and it’s SO EASY TO PLAY.

Sadly, guardians will never be nerfed.

Ironic how if you go to the guardian forum they say the exact same thing about Warriors. For wvw everyone there says roll a warrior. I think you over exagerate a little with your description of how good Guards are (i main a guard btw. )

I almost exclusively do WvW and i see PLENTY of warriors out there. Guards are super good in WvW if you use the classic AH support build, but that is useless for roaming. if you go Medi build then you are barely much use to your group in a zerg/havoc setting. They would much rather you spec support than be medi.

For Medi you are almost forced to use Travellers runes which means you cannot use any of the other cool rune sets out there.

Warriors were ridiculously OP before the adrenaline nerf but i still see them in my teams and they still do a ton of damage.

Question on F1 passive burn. It says every 5th attack (or 3rd if traited for Supreme Justicne). Does that tack cleave attacks into account? For eg lets say im using staff (not saying i would but humor me). It cleaves 5 targets on Auto Attack (assume im in a zerg battle so can hit 5 people each time). Does that mean i burn one person each staff Auto Attack? or is it every 5th auto attack?

Thanks

Yes it does take cleave attacks into account.

Cool that does make it a lot more useful to use cleave or fast attacking weapons. Thanks

Ive been running a Hybrid Medi/Burning guard for the past week in WvW and love it. With GS Scepter/Torch. It works for small group or large zergs. As the OP said most people think im just a regular medi guard but the burns are really useful.

I also use Supreme Justice so i dont give a crapp if they have condi cleanse since i re-apply burning so often with the scepter auto attack from range.

The torch #4 skill when thrown can do good ranged burn damage too.

If you dont want to be the standard AH frontliner (i got bored with that really quick) and want something that can also work while roaming i use GS with Scepter/Focus. The scepter lets you hit from range and then you can pick and choose your target to leap into with the GS. Plus if you need to heal you can dodge out and still keep pressure with scepter. Scepter is great when roaming and fighting classes that like to kite you.

Opening up with Save Yourselves gives really good protection as well as a dps boost with Fury and some might. Using it again mid fight and having CoP ready in case is great. In one zerg fight i used Save Yourselves. pulled around 7 condis onto me, popped CoP and bam! got 7 boons on top of the 7 boons that SY gives me. The 800 Hp per dodge roll is a life saver too, alongside the 150hp per tick from Absolute Resolution.

For Zergs i dropped Hold The Line for Stand Your Ground since Stability is more useful.

Please give constructive criticism of these builds. Thanks

Hi all, so i’ve been reading about Healway and Boonway and wanted the forum’s opinions of the two builds i put together below as alternative to Medi Guard that can be used in a raid/zerg as well as small group roaming. Last night i used the first build in a real WvW map for some 2 person roaming and a raid team. I also tested it in Eotm (we had some zerg v zerg battles) right in the front. Its pretty tanky with “Save Yourselves”. The dodge rolls heal for 800 and the VoR ticks for 156 HP/s. I used -condi food and purity for the 1 condi clear per 10 sec.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQNAR7dlsApVo97wWI8DNhDRl5OUfYXBXwWeZDEAA-T1CBABQpcSWlgCu/QOqUokSmFMZAwVAAH1VcwcWL6G24hAQGAmxA-w

The second one drops purity (keeps retributive armor) and takes 2 points in zeal to boost damage on burning enemies. It will of course boost my dps but my condi clear will be less. Do you think its worth doing this. Is Purity really that worthwhile?

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQNAR7dlsApVo97wWI8DRR8QlZd8iVFAY/ERRle1RA-T1CBABQpcSWlgCu/QOqUokSmFMZAwVAAH1VcwcWL6G24hAQGAmxA-w

Should i drop Hold The Line for Smite Condition or Contemplation of Purity for more condi clear?

One thing i wont change is the runes. I cant live without my Travelers runes. Sooooo good in WvW.

Last note: im still new to WvW combat (pvp) So i need a bit more forgiving build to help cover up mistakes in rotations while i learn.

Thanks in advance

The clerics rings are just from rank up chests, I haven’t actually acquired any dedicated clerics gear, so this is all impromptu crap but it was funny kittening people off. I was catapulting a wall and a thief was shooting me with a shortbow to no effect! :p I’d probably want to add more clerics.

We did pretty good in some outnumbered fights though it took me a while to get used to it. Also, being able to shrug off some people’s attacks while walking away is sorta funny.

The most important thing is that Retreat! gives so much swiftness uptime that I just need a little help to attain permaswiftness, which feels a lot better than being stuck with traveler/speed runes.

Thanks for the reply. When you say shrug off attacks, where does the sustain come from? i see you have some extra Heal power so better dodges but is that enough to make it so survivable?

Thanks Witcher. I use that as my base build. I just think that not everyone wants to run the META and actually sometimes META builds can require a lot of skill. Plus some people enjoy different things. Im fairly new and as such i want to generate more survivability. Also if you increase your dodge healing it reduces your reliance of having tons of allies around you. If you decide to run with a smaller group or happen to get cut off from the main zerg your AH healing drops drastically. Thats when the significantly higher dodge heals will really help.

Thanks Archon. Ive been pretty happy with my current setup (soldier armor, knight weapons and accessories), however, i just felt like experimenting.

So with some gold to burn in my pocket i bought a cleric amulet, 1 cleric ear ring, 1 cleric ring. I crafted a cleric back pack.

I also decided to swap my knight staff for a cleric staff since the staff isnt exactly a dps weapon. Its main purpose is to tag people (ie loot stick) and also for the Empower and Speed. This gives me 179 extra healing power right when i need it.

I tested it last night and i was doing 950+ HP dodge rolls! Agreed that it doesnt really do anything for AH but i think swapping the Staff at least feels like i dont lose out on anything. I may change 2 of my accessories back to Knight or Zerker to get my crit chance back. I felt it really helped quite a bit in terms of my personal survivability as well as my team since i was dodge/roll healing my team for more than double what i was doing before.

I could even swap out my soldier coat and legs for cleric coat/legs (although that works out to be a lot more expensive since i would have to buy Melandru runes for them too) and get probably 1100+ HP dodge heals. I would only lose out on a little vitality which is offset by the better healing.

WvW FrontLine AH gear advice please.

Hi all

Ive been toying around with the WvW build for AH Frontlining and would like some constructive criticism please.

I am pretty new to WvW so my primary goal is to survive in the front lines but not hit like a complete wet noodle.

I do not have any ascended gear so the build i based on full exotics.

Currently im running the build below but with all knights accessories. It gives me insane toughness especially when you add the 150 from strength in numbers when in combat.

However i am thinking of swapping out the amulet, back piece, 1 ring and 1 earring for Clerics to get my heal power up from the base 300 to 635. This will improve my dodge healing quite a bit especially when paired with the sigils of energy.

So is this a good setup or am i just nerfing my original build that has all knights accessories?

Bear in mind my number 1 goal is to not die in the front lines while still helping the team plus some damage. I cant afford to change my soldiers gear so that stays. I can only change my weapons and/or accessories.

Thanks very much.

WvW player looking for advice on AH-EM build

Thanks. I tried it out again last night and Renewed Justice is so much fun in EoTm due to the sheer number of uplevels that just fall over with just a couple of hits allowing me to continuously give might to my allies, AOE blind and AOE burn.

By the way can burning crit? And if so does it proc empowering might which would also proc Altruistic Healing?

Anyway i also went to a real WvW map and i took force of will instead. I have purging flames traited so i may end up moving to a 0/0/6/6/2 build to get master of consercrations because then with Hoelbrak runes and condi food and purging flames, condis will do very little damage to me.

WvW player looking for advice on AH-EM build

Hello. i recently turned level 80 and getting into more serious WvW. Im currently running an AH-EM build 0/1/6/6/1 with Force of Will to get the extra HP.

Still working on gear but i have Exotic Knights weapons (staff/hammer) and Soldier trinkets with soldier runes in the trinkets.

Unfortunately my armor is still Berserker (exotic) since i use it for PVE. Im working on replacing some pieces with Soldier armor. I have Hoelbrak runes in my armor and will be using condition damage reduction food.

I plan on doing WvW Zerg (not roaming) so my question is should i stick with the 0/1/6/6/1 build or can i drop the Force of Will and take Renewed Justice instead? 0/3/6/4/1 . I tried it in EoTM (i know, thats not real WvW) and i could spam VoJ so much i never lost HP but was wondering what would be best for a new WvW’er like me?

Ive read that by the time you can spam VoJ it already means my zerg is probably winning so its not much use. Also i will lose approx 4k HP by dropping Force Of Will.

Im not good enough at theorycrafting on this game to calculate if the AOE blind, 3 might stacks and burning is more beneficial overall than the 4k hp, Obviously all those buffs are good but i also need HP since im no good to anyone if im dead because i couldnt withstand some condi burst etc.

Thanks very much in advance.

Azure, i totally agree on that side. I have no idea why Anet did that. Im sorry if my post may not have been completely on topic. I think Warriors did need a nerf in some way. I mean im a very new player and if as a new war with zero (war) pvp experience i was taking down other players much easier than i could with my guardian (which i have much more pvp exp with), it just shows that warriors (hambow anyway) was just way too OP/forgiving for sPvP.

Hambow warrior in sPVP was so freaking faceroll easy. I main a guardian and i decided to start a warrior 2 days ago. I literally bought a hammer and bow from TP (never fired the bow before my first sPVP match). Specced the Meta Hambow build. Walked into arena and was immediately killing players and lasting way longer than i ever did as my Medi guardian which ive been playing for 2 months now. So yeah, it was kinda OP in pvp.

Dont worry i have my flame kittenant suit on.

Guardian vs War, no comment

So im fairly new to the game. I have a level 47 Guardian (my main). Well 2 days ago i levelled a warrior to level 7. Then went to hotjoin as a Hambow (i had never used a long bow in pve on my war, so first time using those skills were in arena). Well it was like night and day. The skill floor for hambow is so freaking low its in the basement. I was killing players and lasting way longer than my med guard ever did and i have many matches of experience on my guard.

Guardian is still my fav for pve and very satisfying when i manage to kill someone in arena but i gotta say the Pew Pew of a hambow warrior in arena is just plain ridiculous.

With the changes to adrenaline coming for warriors does that mean if a guardian blocks a warrior attack, the warrior loses adrenaline (after the new patch due this month). Will that not make it a more interesting fight between guardians and Warriors?

Im currently levelling my Guardian (atm only level 45) using GS, Sw/Fc but i just love using a hammer and whenever i do world events and there is a big group of players i enjoying jumping right in with a hammer for the fun Auto Attack protection and Mighty Blow animations. As the other poster said. PVE is faceroll so just enjoy and use whatever you like. If you will always be doing PVE with friends then GS/Hammer will be perfectly fine.
