Technically, Jormag uses psychology – he leads individuals into joining him of their own free will based on their desires of strength and power. Mostly, at least.

Zhaitan’s risen is just psychological warfare, a bunch of taunts, lies, and whatever in order to reduce your morality – this isn’t for corrupting, however, but just to make you lose your will to fight so you’re easier to kill.

Both use psychology in two different ways.

I see joining Jormag in exchange for power (which he’s clearly demonstrated to the norn already, having devoured Owl) is more employer/employee relationship. You do what the boss asks, and you get paid, in the SoS case – they serve Jormag and gain some measure of power. The main difference is you can quit your job, walking away from an ED is somewhat… difficult.

As to why I don’t see Jormag’s mental corruption as psychology in the conventional sense is that in real life, when being coerced/persuaded, you always have the power to refuse if you so choose. Sure, you may face whatever consequences, but in the end there isn’t really a way to talk someone into giving you full remote control of their body and mind.

I figure Jormag’s corruptive process is no different than that of any other ED, instead of having to rely (solely? I’m not certain if he has a corrupting breath attack) on his breath, he can also corrupt telephatically. It seems more of a magical ability than some accumulated experience/knowledge in the ways of coaxing mortals into your service.

Jormag is more of a Professor Xavier kind of deal. He doesn’t use psychology, he uses telepathy. If anything, Zhaitan uses the most psychology, several of his champions will mock you for losing your mentor and promise you’ll soon be joining them under Zhaitan.

Destiny's Edge vs Kralkatorrik

Actually there is no protection against Kralkatorrik from that crystal or the sanctuary. His breath attack is a stream of plasma that melts anything and everything into glass/crystal/brandedness, hence the only way to avoid it is to run behind/under/inside something. I’m pretty sure Snaff’s golem got turned completely to stone by it, allowing the branded to topple it, break in and kill him.

Kralkatorrik also doesn’t use any mental powers or attacks afaik that we’ve seen, just the ability to turn incorporeal by becoming a storm. If anything, his main powers are his size and his breath attack.

What I’ve learned from playing gw2 is that Zhaitan is a totally weak pathetic excuse for an elder dragon. He got taken out without almost any effort what so ever, which is why gw2 story has one of the worst endings of all time. So if the other elder dragons are as weak as him Tyria really has nothing to worry about.

But I’d say that Primordus is the strongest out of the elder dragons.

Technically, he was defeated through great effort. You have to remember, by the time you get to actually fight Zhaitan himself you’ve:

  1. Cut off his food supply
  2. Cut off his corpse supply, crippling his ability to raise more forces
  3. Raided his abomination factory, as it were
  4. Cleansed the statues of the gods, thereby preventing Zhaitan from feeding off of their magic
  5. Methodically cut a path through most of Orr
  6. Destroyed considerable amounts (if not most) of his champions, be they dragons, eyes, generals and so on
  7. Cleansed the artesian waters, breaking the continued corruption of Orr

All of this serves to weaken Zhaitan, by the time you actually fight him, he’s basically on the ropes. Unfortunately all this buildup leads to a very anticlimactic ending. While it does make sense from a game world perspective, it doesn’t make for a very exciting battle. Zhaitan looks like a wuss for the duration of the fight, but doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have easily stomped us. After all, the Pact only assaults Arah after the odds are as heavily in their favour as possible.

The DSD and the Sixth dragon are largely unknown, as is their strength. Primordus has also kept a pretty low profile (unless I’m mistaken, we’ve only seen him as that “statue” they Central Transfer Chamber used as a power source). Zhaitan is already dead so he’s out of the running.

We’re left with two contenders – Jormag and Kralkatorrik. We know Jormag lost a tooth in battle with Asgeir Dragonrender. Kralkatorrik on the other hand has lost one of his spines in battle with an unknown force.

The main problem with figuring out which one of these two is stronger lies in their abilities – we know Jormag subjugates the minds of those who oppose him, whereas Kralkatorrik is the largest physically (with the possible exception of the DSD).

I’d personally go with Kralkatorrik, as Glint seemed convinced he’s the really big bad. He was the last dragon to awake, and while the other dragons were already out and about, Glint’s concern was taking her master down immediately after his awakening because of what she feared he’d do if left alive.

Whether Glint only feared him so much because she’d had the most “exposure” to his thoughs or because she’d never witnessed firsthand the power of the other dragons OR because he’s legitimately the most terrible one of the bunch. It’s pretty safe to assume Glint hasn’t witnessed any other EDs personally (Dragons are hostile with each other, so she’s unlikely to have survived such an encounter). How much she knows about the other EDs is still anyone’s guess, as we know Glint is an oracle and she could read the mind of her master and (potentially) the other EDs as well.

While Glint’s reason for thinking Kralkatorrik would be the end of all good things will likely remain unknown, she had a pretty good track record when it came to credibility (as any good prophet should) so I’ll put my money on her assessment.

We know that the centaurs and bandits are allies, so humanity’s enemies aren’t all centaurs. They’re also branching out and allying with the Inquest and Nightmare Court, so things will likely end in a large Bandit/Centaur/Inquest/Nightmare Court vs Humans/Asura/Sylvari battle royale.

Beliefs of the Krait

in Lore

Posted by: SpeedFiend.4521

SpeedFiend.4521

Well, we know the krait are a fairly equal opportunity race. Males and females recieve both military training and education, and they participate equally in all parts of krait society, therefore female krait are likely also part of the priesthood.

It is possible that there is no singular leader in the priesthood; Krait believe themselves undefeatable and superior to all other races, an egotistical outlook like this would make selecting and following a leader difficult. Also, given that krait society is centered around their religious teachings, it is possible that each priest can make “leadership” decisions based on their authority of interpreting religios teachings. Since the priesthood are the only ones who not only interpret but also know and modify, or “write”, if you will, the teachings in question, any priest could make and back reasonabily important decisions.

On the other hand, we have observed krait in leadership positions (head slaver), so
it’s anyone’s guess if there is a formal leader of the Oratuss and, if so, whether it is a priest or priestess. Most of krait lore is fuzzy and intentionally lacking in details, as they are a race that sees all others as slaves and sacrifices, not really the basis for diplomatic relations and exchange of knowledge.

Beliefs of the Krait

in Lore

Posted by: SpeedFiend.4521

SpeedFiend.4521

Religion is at the heart of krait society, and in turn, the obelisks are at the heart of krait religion. The obelisks are rare, eerily smooth stones made from a unique material found on the ocean floor. According to the Oratuss, the priesthood of the krait, the obelisks mark the sites of the “ascension” of ancient krait prophets to some higher realm, but land-based scholars speculate that they are simply ancient krait monuments whose purpose have been long-forgotten due to the oral nature of the krait’s religious texts.

Krait doctrine fortells the return of the obelisks’ prophets, bringing with them massive armies to flood the surface of the world and destroy other species. It is to these prophets that the krait sacrifice their slaves, believing that they will serve the prophets as they expand their otherworldly armies. The krait regularly use magical and mathematical means to attempt to predict the time of the prophets’ return, but have yet to be successful.

Like their obelisks, all krait are steadfast and immobile in their beliefs. Their legends say those on land were driven out of the sea by the prophets and forbidden to return. This regarded with a degree of scepticism by other races but the krait refuse to listen such things and are happy to kill to ensure that the krait religion is not defamed. All krait are willing to die for the continuity of their species and for the cause of their prophets.

The religion of the krait is what allows the Oratuss to control the entire race. Religious “texts” followed by the krait are passed down verbally through these priests and priestesses. The vast length of the texts allows the priests, who have dedicated their lives to the texts, to make subtle changes to the wording and manipulate the interpretation of their legends to serve their purposes and support their power.

I didn’t say they were made in the menagerie, they were being domesticated, if you will, and that got shut down. The same portal that they come out of also spawns a ton of imps (which we’ve seen elsewhere), and I don’t see why fleshreavers coming out of the mists is a big deal.
We know they’re there, what’s wrong with a lil portal ride to Tyria? They wouldn’t even be the weirdest thing to get spat up from there, for instance Razah is basically protomatter from the mists congealed into a sentient humanoid form. He has basically no true parallel in the real world, yet the mists still managed to fill in a bunch of blanks and spawn him.
I’m sure it’s not too much of a stretch to assume the same process (albeit a simpler and much more likely to occur version of it) lead to the Fleashreaver population in the mists. And since they need dead bodies to grow, I wouldn’t be surprised if they found their way to Tyria in search of prey that a little more substance than the same old off-brand protomatter crap that makes up just about everything in the mists.

Of particular note is the line “Some have even been seen coming through portals leading to the mists.”

I don’t see anything particularly noteworthy about that. The mists are the building blocks of reality and fleshreavers are real. Hell, I’d be worried if there weren’t any of them in the mists.

Presumably a good portion of them were wiped out in the menagerie, but (considering their life cycle) they’d be pretty kitten hard to eradicate completely. We can easily assume the practice of making fleshreavers still exists based on the graverobbing necro in Kessex with his fleshreaver pets.

We seem to have deviated from the matter at hand, but I’ll chip in anywho!

Primordus is evidently the most ominous threat out there. Just the awakening of his champion was enough to cause earthquakes across the world, Elona and Cantha included.
Secondly, he inhabits the depths of Tyria, and we know for a fact his minions are created from stone, no need for any pesky living/dead things to corrupt, virtually all of subsurface Tyria is fair game. We also know he’s not just sitting pretty down there: the destroyers have driven out everything that was below ground (basically) centuries ago, and in the mean time, for all we know, Primordus could have hollowed out most of Tyria (and by that I mean the whole spiel, not just the continent) and turned it into a giant seething mass of destroyers.
Lastly, while one might argue that the DSD could be even more kitten by sheer virtue of us not knowing anything about it, don’t forget that it’s limited to the wet part of the map. Primordus and his minions can strike anywhere and without warning, hell, he could easily collapse every major settlement on the map. Even Rata Sum isn’t out of his reach because he can just annihilate the ground-based reactor keeping it in the sky.

Kralkatorrik won’t be next because killing him off opens the southern border to Joko’s undead hordes, which are presently occupied fighting him. Next target is going to be Jormag, because he has the most direct impact on the world. The branded are mostly contained to the dragonbrand (courtesy of the vigil/sentinels) while the icebrood are running rampant through the north, corrupting both wildlife and environment.

After Jormag is dealt with it’s anyone’s guess:

  • Kralkatorrik – won’t be hard to locate, but his demise takes pressure of Palawa Joko
  • Primordus, while underground, is apparently quite mobile and tracking him down in the depths will not prove easy
  • Bubbles the DSD – aside from driving a bunch of aquatic creatures to the surface, he hasn’t had much impact on the major races. Killing him would open up a sea route to Cantha, but that doesn’t do much good since the last we heard of that lot was the start of an isolationist policy marked with liberal amounts of genocide.
  • The ED behind door #6 is only known to those who count the uncountable, so he’d probably be the last to pursue.

After Jormag is dealt with, between Primordus, Bubbles and Kralkatorrik my money’s on Primordus. Whichever one of them presents the greatest threat is going to be next on the hit list, and Primordus has the benefit of being able to strike without warning with presumably uncountable hordes of destroyers at any point on the surface world.

Elementalist trait lines are balanced so that you have to choose between powerful options that makes you beastly in a certain attunement over having a more balanced performance across several attunements. What you’re suggesting lets you essentially trait 30/30 with 10 in arcana and be the equivalent of a 30/30/30/30/10 elementalist currently.

*Down the Hatch – Human Male Pirate boots, rare foot clothing req. lvl 1, curiously my character that got this is female.

Even when geared mostly for magic find (bit of toughness thrown in for good measure) and using the gimptastic p/p I churn out decent damage while being one of the more survivable (unless things go way south) members of the group.

As you can probably tell dodging is the focus of my build:

  • I can do two dodge rolls and a third about two seconds later
  • Said dodge rolls give me might stacks (further buffed by runes of the pirate) and increase my damage output by 10% until my endurance bar refills fully again (I never actually let this happen)
  • Gaining a quick 2 seconds of swiftness on every dodge helps get out of the way of certain large AoEs with a lot more room for error.
  • Extra boon duration means you gain even more benefits from team support.
  • Almost more initiative regen than you can shake a stick at means I can kerrsplode arrows into any fire combo field of sufficient duration and give anyone in proximity 25 stacks of might, no questions asked.
  • The very same thing allows me to spam area weakness via SB poison
And, last but not least, Unload lets me abuse combo fields all day long.

Perhaps you can stop hoarding your 1/500th collected mats for Infinite Light and your 0.5% complete essense of the foefire checklist, embrace the (very) ample opportunities for profit on the market and work with it. The point I’m trying to make here might not be that obvious, but if someone chooses MF gear over whatever other stats they can get there mythical stats from their trait trees and adapt their playstyle to their gear/stat combination. If you’ve run into players who, for whatever reason, cannot or will not make MF gear viable for themselves then maybe you should stop pointing a finger at the gear and consider the player. Think of it like this, would you take ToughnessVitality Exoticpants who is convinced red circles denote safe spots or the level 34 guy in blues who can kite a tunnel-full of dredge in his sleep?
