Kormir question (possible spoiler)

You’re confusing the NPCs. You can ask one of the ghosts at the Siren training place in Siren’s Landing about anthems of Kormir. They’re confused because and have never heard of her because they died years before she ascended to godhood.

Dessa and Arkk (Spoilers fractals)

in Lore

SpeedFiend.4521

I’ve not done any fractals since fractured came out but I think I can explain the uncategorized fracrtal here though. It’s part of the skritt research lab you do in the guild challenge. It was a consortium project to evaluate the use of skritt as labour and the test subjects got loose. This is where the cat golems are from, as well as the reason for all the security measures. The fate of the other researchers is unknown, but the Raving Asura has cut himself off in the “control room”, if you will, hence his quote about us not being real/there as there is simply no way that he knows of to reach this part of the lab anymore.

He could be Dessa’s boyfriend and she might be one of the researchers who escaped, but that’s a whole other can of worms I know very little about.

This seems to be a good time and place to bring this up. Since being “dimmed” Balthy has chugged one supersized bloodstone with all the sides worth of magic – remember, it was full up after we disposed of Zhaitan and Mordremoth. He then followed it up with an amount equal to or greater than what Jormag and Primordus put together have consumed since awakening. When you consider what they are and how consuming magic is about their only hobby it starts to look like a lot of magic.

Yet Balthazar isn’t that bright even after all that. So does this imply that a god at full power would literally have one Tyria worth of magic or thereabouts? Since we know Abaddon was the big kitten in the having of magic department (he was supposed to be able to take on 3 of the others, iirc?) just how much kitten magic is in these guys? Who’d they nick it from, because I doubt they found it on the side of the road and just forgot to hand it over to the proper authorities.

Feedback: Pip Acquisition [merged]

in WvW

Posted by: SpeedFiend.4521

SpeedFiend.4521

A persons WVW rank should not be used for pip acquisition. The rewarding of pips should be fair and equally rewarding to all participants.

+1 Bronze WvW Rank (150-619)
+2 Silver WvW Rank (620-1394)
+3 Gold WvW Rank (1395-2544)
+4 Platinum WvW Rank (2545-4094)
+5 Mithril WvW Rank (4095-6444)
+6 Diamond WvW Rank (6445-9999)
+7 Max WvW Rank (10000)

This is extremely wrong and the most unfair component in the reward system in all of GW2. If this is the case I should be recieving more pips in pvp based on my rank and more gold and rares in pve based on my AP. Extremely discriminating this is . Please make it an avg amount of pips given to all players all remove this entirely. It is immoral and discriminates against new players. Whoever did this needs to give me an explanation. A very good one of why your choosing to discriminate other players.

=====
This user makes a stronger argument ; Posted for visibility-

The main issue isn’t that higher ranks earn rewards faster. The issue is that, at the lower end, the total time to complete the reward track for an average player is too much even for extensive playtimes. Getting high rank should be a marginal increase in speed. In contrast right now higher rank is significantly involved in whether a player has to play 10, 20, or 40 hours in a week.

Looking at my pip gain in silver—between 33% and 50% of my total pips are due to my rank. If I was in gold I would be earning over 50% of my pips from my rank. I also play a fair bit on outnumbered maps because I solo and group roam more often than not to support my team. The largest pip gains are outnumbered (largest share of pips earned) followed by slightly less pips from rank.

The problem is multiplicative. I get 2 pips per tick at silver. In the time a bronze player earns 60, I earn 120. Gold earns 180. Platinum earns 240.

The reward track assumes players will earn “enough” pips at a certain playtime per day.

3 pips per tick is 40.27 hours
5 pips per tick is 24.16 hours
7 pips per tick is 16.9 hours
9 pips per tick is 13.42 hours

Roughly 10 hours of WvW per week to max out rewards seems reasonable. Maybe even up to 15. So in the 8-10 pips per tick range. Say you average 2 for skirmish position, 1 for loyalty, 2 for rank and 2 on average for being outnumbered sometimes. If even a middle ranked player can’t max out the rewards in a reasonable period of time there is a problem.

Not all players should max out the reward track each week. But low rank players need to see middle rank players maxing out rewards within a reasonable time as a incentive to rank up. It is hardly good motivation to tell a new player “if you just get 2000 ranks you can maybe max out the rewards in a week if you play 8 hours.”

I also think it is poor manners to tell other players how they need to suck it up when the higher ranked players can get full rewards merely playing 8 hours and everyone else has to play two to three times as long. There is a legitimate problem here.

But you do get more gold and rares in PVE for having more AP – it’s called account gold and magic find.

So which Dragon is the most dangerous?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: SpeedFiend.4521

SpeedFiend.4521

I would think that a dragon with the ability to corrupt life directly would be more dangerous than one that has to use an intermediary medium such as water. Sure we all need water to live but we need to be alive to drink water. I’d put Zhaitan above the DSD.

Water is life. Our bodies are composed of water. Zhaitan can only corrupt dead bodies. Sea Dragon can potentially corrupt the entire ecosystem that life depends on.

Just putting it in perspective. :P

By that logic Primordus is the most dangerous. He corrupts cold lifeless stone into all sorts of kittened off magma creatures. He doesn’t even NEED an ecosystem so you can bet his endgame doesn’t involve anything surviving.

HoT needs a dungeon or 5

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

SpeedFiend.4521

Symptomatic to Anet; only 4 maps, not one new dungeon and after 9 months one new tiny fractal which is made of assets of old fractals. I just wonder what the hell they do all day long.

Continuously redesign stuff. Fractals are on rework number 3? or so (4? if you count lolaccoutboundloot) while things that get the devs tons of mileage for time invested (bazaar, queen’s gauntlet, dragon bash, tower of nightmares) are kept out of the game most of the time. Adding new mobs/bosses to gauntlet would take all of a few weeks, while reworking wvw (which took the HoT development cycle and then another bunch of time just to revert only to now partially un-revert) takes much longer. Some time designing the precursor crafting system, only to stop just past half way in actually using it by putting the second set of legendaries on hold indefinitely.

The LS episode unlocking system coming out after season 1 I’ll just put down as an unfortunate fact of life as it’s not cost any dev time, but fixing it would take dev time. In other words, instead of taking up time it probably just won’t be done.

Then you have things like dungeons being reworked a billion times (nerfing speed clears with once a day loot, re-adding rewards, adding gold to rewards, nerfing it again to push fractals then somewhat un-nerfing it again) without anything that actually adds content to the system besides aetherpath actually staying.

And then there are things that have taken up dev time already simply haven’t fully matured yet (masteries, LS episodes replay feature, the way elite specs work) or are quickly getting there (reward tracks, even more so now that they’re in wvw too, wvw rank skills). Stuff that’s basically already done but will see more return for the time put in as the game goes on.

Yes, a lot of this stuff involves different departments and presumably the art team are hammering away at the game’s need for assets throughout all the redesigns, but you also have to consider a lot of this stuff spends considerable time on the drawing board or even in coded prototype form and potentially never even sees the light of day.

Without actual inside knowledge of what’s in the works or how long this stuff has taken most of these examples are speculative at best but probably still account for a good chunk of dev time.

That being said, I’m not a fan of fractals and think we need a blonde-headed asura representative of the consortium to make dungeons great again. By building new ones. Hundreds of them. With sustainability being the word going around recently, maybe adventures and dungeons can meet half way and turn into some kind of 3 man minidungeon thing like they had on WoW, so long as a small team can churn out a new one every few patches.

Anet promised us new legendarys in early 2013

SpeedFiend.4521

What the majority of people defending the decision fail to understand (or choose not to) is that when the expansion was announced there were promises made, one of which included a full set of legendaries on release. This was later changed to a few on release and a steady stream after the game came out. This would still have been fine, it’s understandable that priorities shift and what have you but as long as content used to advertise the game does get delivered that’d be fine. But now the feature is indefinitely cancelled. I’m pretty sure my HoT purchase wasn’t partially indefinitely refunded until the marketed parts are released.

Personally I’m not even that interested in the new legendaries, or the old one for that matter. The problem is however that Anet have pulled the whopping 6 people working on content we’ve already paid for while the happy bunch of 70 (or whatever the last quoted number is, I’ve pretty much stopped following the game) are actually working on the next cash grab expansion. What this tells me is Anet are fine with overcharging for an expansion that turns out light on content to begin with, putting the features that aren’t convenient on indefinite hold while CHOOSING to prioritise a new expansion over finishing the one people (including the ones defending the decision) paid for.

Keeping this in mind, why would I, as a customer, buy the next expansion? Anet have already stated each expansion will include the core game and previous expansions in the purchase. Why would I pay for expac 2 only to have quite possibly the same thing happen again to, for example, rifles for thieves this time around. Instead I can just wait until expac 7 comes out, pay the same 35 British wizard moneys I’d pay for expac 2 and get all the partially finished 5 expansions that came out since without having to be kittened off about cut features. Right now in between how the manifesto video turned out on game release and how the expansion stacks up versus the initial hype announcement I can’t POSSIBLY trust anet to deliver on what they promise to get my 35 foreign currencies. And the funny thing about trust is it’s kinda like a sheet of paper. You can crumple it up and then straighten it back out, but it will never be quite the same as before.

tl;dr keeping my money till thieves get rifles, because that’s literally the last thing this game can offer at this point that I care about (other than being ripped off by cut features I already paid for, even if I probably wouldn’t use them).

Yes, I’m one of those kind of people: The “not ignorant”. The saddest part about threads like this is that you don’t even realize the benefit that Anet cancelling this failed development track has to our community. This isn’t about making money; it’s about business decisions that keep this game going and bring us more value for the money we give them.

If you cared to educate yourself a little bit with the topics we gave you, you would be better off for it.

Ah, I see, the not ignorant are happy with not getting what they actually paid for when they bought the expansion. I’ll be counted among the ignorant gladly then.

2-3 months between LS3 Chapters

SpeedFiend.4521

If there’s a few months between Living World season 3 episodes, they have to give a LOT of rewards and content to do. A new zone or two with a lot of events (Basically a larger new version of Silverwastes) for people to be content for a while, as well as a longer amount of engaging story content.

And what MMO do you know that provides that much content every 2-3 months? I don’t think people have realistic expectations.

I’m fuzzy on the details, but my housemate plays the Star Wars MMO. They get content drops every 2-3 few months with HOURS of storyline that is unique for EVERY class. So no, not unrealistic expectations, not even low ones. Not to mention that NOTHING I’ve seen in gw2 can hold a candle to the quality of their cinematics/storytelling/actually having choices which impact the story such as killing NPCs square in the face at your discretion.

My main fear is that it’ll be even more P2W than HoT, offer even less content and still cost full price.

Legendary weapons

New legendary weapons need:
- model
- effects
- footfalls
- aura
- thematic collections for the precursor and one of the gifts for the Gift of [weapon name]
- optional background story (Chuka and Champawat)

Black Lion Skins need:
- model
- optional effects

Gliders need:
- model
- optional effects

The effort for new legendary weapons is much higher than just weapon skins or gliders.

You’ll be hard pressed to convince me that cancelling content people paid for ALREADY in favour of churning out more cash shop content is due to some supposed discrepancy in effort required.

Rewarding?

SpeedFiend.4521

when game go to f2p this happens.

The F2P guys don’t get to play any of the HoT content, so that’s no excuse. No, the only two times game content has ever been rewarding were
1) when fractals initially came out, lasted a couple of weeks before half the loot disappeared and the other half started to bind to account.
2) For all of 3 days when champion bags exotic skins came out, where you’d get an exotic every 50 boxes tops, until they had to “fix a server crash” and exotics in champion bags reverted to the same “once per year” drop rate of everything else remotely interesting.

No, after the skinner box stopped working (because they nerfed it, of course) they just opted to put the skinner boxes inside of a skinner box of skinner boxes, which you get from clicking your bouncy skinner box above the minimap. And, spoiler alert, those bags are all full of garbage.

No, not happy about outfits at all. Anything I can’t mix and match with the stuff I already do have is 100% pointless to me. It’s not like clipping issues are getting fixed, and it’s not as if outfits don’t have clipping issues either, so outfits are a complete waste of time. There’s really nice pieces on some outfits, and I’d probably shell out just to get stuff like the shadow assassin boots/gloves and such, but in their present form they may as well not even exist.

Seriously, what’s your cut off? If you guys don’t want to continue waiting, when you are going to say enough is enough? What is the absolute deadline for Anet to get back to us? Or are deadlines only applicable to Anet?

Oh, don’t misunderstand, my cut off is long past. I haven’t actively played since the WvW “tournament”, and don’t have any intention to do more than the once-over LS episode playthrough anytime soon. I have no intention of grinding 10^16 bandit crests or whatever, I’m not interested in another quick n dirty “let’s give Buygate their win back” WvW tourney and I certainly don’t see anything interesting on the horizon given that dungeon content is apparently one of those no-no words to the devs.

SpeedFiend.4521

It’s become increasingly difficult because of the megaserver situation to find a map with less players so your DPS actually counts towards getting loot from the boss, and not just from the big chest at the end.

Protip: It doesn’t matter how much damage you do, it only matters when you do it. All it takes is a single hit to be eligible for loot, but not everyone will be eligible.

This. You can hit a champion a single time with a cleric guard’s staff 2 and you’ll get loot every single time if you hit him before everyone else has had a chance to.
