Hello,
I’m new to gw2 and was wondering do people mainly run sPvP with their guild or are there organized teams. I play an engineer and plan to mainly sPvP. If it is guild based and there are any guilds on Anvil Rock out there I’m looking to play.
Welcome to gw2 and PvP aspect of the game. There are plenty of reasons why people only runs in organised group or with guildies. I will just named a few :
1/Matchmaking is still broken. Let say you are fresh in tourney and soloQ,you are randomly matched up with much higher skill level such as r30+. That normally turns people down, away from SoloQ. If your teams consists of low ranks(new to sPvP)being matched up with a r30 team,your teams will most likely lose. In the case you are the only one low rank in the team, you still drag the whole team down a lot,not say it is your fault, but most people will blame you for their lost.
2/ Afker, Leaver Mid match. This is what being a big problem ATM. When groping with pugs, and when your teams start losing,being dominating. Instead of trying harder to overturn, some people simply leave mid match or afk, leave the other 4 fighting alone which often results in a lose match. Not only that, since there is no punishment implemented for these players yet, you will see them more and more often lead to unnecessary frustrated and lose.
3/ Conquest still is the only mode available in sPvP which requires a good coordinated between team members to win. Grouping with pugs normally don’t have that kind of communication and lost is often guaranteed.Plus because of Conquest is the only mode that promoted Bunker build,dps,roamers. A pre-made team normally consists of these roles.But with pugs, you don’t have that luxury options.
4/ sPvP win/lost ratio will affect your leader board rank. However, losing to a low lv team result in even more drop in rank due to imbalanced team,leavers,etc…and winning against high rank team will up ladder you a lot but very hard to achieve with SoloQ.Hence they join team.

You can actually get used to this.Btw, I’m sure you know that if you double-click Hylek of Poison to bring it on your bar, you can click the #1 swiftness (hare) twice, and then the pot disappears, leaving you with a normal bar. But if you put it down and pick it up again, you can use it endlessly, you can even put it down again and pick it up, until you make it go away by using a skill while it’s on your bar.
That’s at least my experience. Maybe it’s a bug?
I can keep permanent swiftness with no food involved. I would prefer use food that give more dams rather than swiftness.

Not really, way bf back to the past, when I first play thief, you did not need to stay in SR to get Stealth, even you only stand in for 2s you still get stealthed regardless. Then one day, thing changes and that is what SR nowadays.

Classes that AoE boon stack and to a extent that single stack have no real counter.
This is a minor issue in PvP and a gamebreaking one in WvW. There is no punishment no counter to AoE boon stacking. Game needs AoE boon rips to make classes that dont AoE boon stack viable for groups and help develop an actual meta.
Corrupt Boon should be AoE, too strong you say? Hardly it would be useless in against teams that dont boon stack and great vs teams that do. That is balance, that is a counter meta. A choice in team make up and builds based on what the other team is doing…. AoE boon stacking right now has no faults its good no matter the situation there is no drawback to it. Corrupt one target and another AoE clears the conditions then AoE boon stacks everyone… nice balance there Anet.
Just getting sick of this games total lack of options for counter meta building. There is no meta in the game all that changes is team comps based on what class gets nerfed and buffed there are no skills to counter popular team make ups like stability and protection stacking for stomps etc.
Thats my viewpoint as a necro im sure some will not agree.
(note: one necro well skill removes boons but thats on a longer cooldown then boon stackers and people must stand in the well its not instant).
Please tell me one class that has no access to BoonAT ALLAnd in a Zerg, all the times you get affected by boon with no options. And that will put class that relied heavy on BOON to be USEFULL becomes USELESS,for example Eles and Guard.

I know it won’t stop you no matter what but at least minimise the frequently of same thing happened if a punishment is implemented. Now where is my block button again?

That is why a punishment is necessary. The only problem is what level is appropriate and to be fair to those getting DC or reasonable excuses.

One class has limited of CC skill, for example, even with Eles, being considered has way too many CC, only have 2 KD skill, Updraft which lifts backward and then Eles has to walk back in to stomp, and then stomp. With all the time use to walk close to Ranger and then cast stomp, Rangers already can rally himself with pets, not to mention, Ranger has the CC skill itself while downing (skill 2) and Fear from the Dogs, he can interrupt while you cast stomping while the pet keep healing the Rangers. The other CC Eles has is Earthquake but the Rangers will do the same to keep the stomping. Not to mention, Rangers is the only class that can access to f2 skill while downed and in underwater combat, Ranger can never be killed.

Hm… Why they think Eles is Immortal bf and now Ranger got the same title too? I, bunker Eles, can kill a Bunker Ranger. Sure the fight is long, 10 mins but they are not Immortal, same with Eles. By the way, I play Eles, Not Ranger.
You don’t have 10 mins to waste on a 1v1 in a tournament. This itself shows how imbalanced they are atm.
If in a proper PvP tourney, wasting all your time and resources just to take on 1 bunker is not a wise thing to do. My team usually ignore him and capture the other points. If he join the group fight, he hit like wet noodle,you can actually ignore him.if he is bunker one point, means the other 2 only have 4 people cap. With 5 players on your team can not take down the other 4, I don’t know what to say. But I agree the pet hit hard right now though. In Bunker Ranger, we simply can not ignore the pet at this point of the game. Anet sure buff Pet hard.

Even with attemp to CC, pet still execute the heal regardless and to some class, pet can not be killed by player.

Nope, what it works is if the fall will kill you with your Hp remaining, it heals you BF you landed,so you still takes dams as normal and won’t die from falling.I may misunderstood your idea that it heal you AFT you landed and took dams. Which one is that? Bf or Aft

Well, I a, using full Berserker Gears, Trinkets and Divinity Runes and typical 0/10/0/30/30, my Fireball can crit up to 3k with 3 staks of mights. But unless you are experienced, I would not recommend this to any new player due to it lows toughness. I sit on 15k HP and 1100 toughness, 40%crit chance (60% with fury) and 75% Crit dams. You can try with P/P/T first to test your skill, once you are comfort with it,then you have easier time with Berserker Gear.

First of Rangers are not immortal. I’m not going to read this whole thread. Just because your a DPS class traited and skilled BUNKER for survivability and you don’t have the DPS to kill us is not our FAULT.
You people are have issues. Just because the way you are spec’ed and traited and have no ability to kill us is your problem. Maybe you should try something different. We are easily killed.
Secondly king of down state is wrong. Yes, we have some good down state advantages. So do other classes. Look at the Warrior. Warrior > Ranger in downstate. He can get up come stomp us and now he’s back in the game. I don’t see you guys complaining about that? ???? I know I’m not. Its part of PVP..

Ah.. Not really. War downstate Vengence does not secure his up straight away even when he stomp you though. 50% if traited and he only has 15s to do that or die. So in short, gamble or die.While Ranger if both are at downstate, Ranger win all the time. It s a GUARNTEE rally. See the difference? Like I said, we have no trouble with your lots, trait or skill but with the Pet, the downstate and their mechanism. I already explain it in my post, so I won’t post again. Sure, it is our fault for have no DpS to kill you but again, you should also have no ability to kill bunker by yourself alone which not really happened ATM. Think back about the past where Eles is Op. People called Eles Op, immortal simply because we survive long and well. We are Bunker, we are supposed to do that when traited. Then why it is OUR FAULT that people call us OP because they Can’t kill us?Have you seen any Bunker Eles can kill any DECENT player in 1vs1Yet they are OP.

A player has only fun with fair fights but doesnt want tournaments at the moment because he is not keen on playing against a team of perfect combined skills/classes etc…
So he just wants some fun with randoms but with equal teams…
So he joins a game but after the start the groups remain unequal and he leaves the group with more players to make it fair and because he wouldnt want to play like this anyway….
So he gets a punishment for playing fair and making the game fair for others??Better make normal spvp with guaranteed equal group numbers instead

Those people then pls don’t join in tPvP where everything is for winning, no mess up around. Hotjoin is there for people to have fun with no responsible. Once you queue for tPvP, you should do your best,except under some special circumstances. Leavers,afk mid match where the team is losing is unacceptable,at least to me.

but since we have NO matchmaking at all, can we please have a rank 10 restriction to spvp? Its so sad when you get those rank 1 with starter builds in tpvp, just following you because they dont even know the map.
It is a good idea but I don’t think it is fair to new people, since they have all rights to enter tPvP as everyone else. And ranks does not match with people skill sometimes. To be more fun to everyone, I suggest we put bracket on it for the first 20 lv, for example 1-10,10-20,20 and onward.

Last night I killed a ranger!
I downed him the first time after a long fight and went for the stop but he interrupted me and healed himself up against and almost to 100%… After again another long fight I downed him again BUT in the water… His pet again healed him to live again. Yes I did try to kill the pet but he just healed his owner too fast and he fled….
Finely I managed to downed him again a few minutes later (new encounter) and managed to stop him on the second try right when he was about to res himself again…NERF ME!! I killed a ranger!
Nice one. Well, honestly to me Troll Ugen or whatever the name is, you know what I mean, is not much of a problem. There are two mains problem that most people feels uncomfortable with:
1/Ranger is the king of the downstate.
2/ Even traited as the bunker, the pet hit like a berserker.
To fix this, many people suggest pet stats should directly scale off with his owner stats,pet of a bunker should not hit as hard as of a berserker ranger,and pet of a berserker should not be survive as long as of a bunker. Same applied with Healing power. If you want to get up fast, trait a lot healing power. My 2cents

Keep it a secret and figure out their strategy is part of the fun. Even so, you know their build, weapon, elites, trait, etc…, 1m34s is too short to discuss anything decent with so many Infos given, not mention discuss trait, tactics, weapon to counter them, etc… And also the same happened to the opposite. You change and the moment they change, you change again. In the end, why does it matter??

For Trait it is typical 0/10/0/30/30 Bunker Build. The basic rotation is start with Air : RtL, Updraft to knock Mobs down, switch to Fire while mid Updraft then Burning Foot and Burning Grasp for burst, laying down RoF, then Switch to Earth, Dodge Roll in Earth to RoF for Might Stack, then Earthquake and CE to finish, all in RoF if possible. At this point, for normal Mobs it should be down, and you should end up somewhere bw 12 Might Stack. Switch to Water if u are in trouble. The basic is like that, my advice is to practice it until you can do it without thinking, like a Memory Muscle. By the time you master it, you will most likely know you don’t have to execute them all at once but rather when the opportunity arise. But for now, practice with all that first. Good luck.

My advice, get through with your Eles to 80, then u will know the Eles power. Eles is one of the class that shines in 80 but sucks in early lv. Endure the hardship, get to 80 and u will realise how useful of Eles in a pt. Trust me on this. Cheer

If you take 10/20/10/20/10 and grab Earth trait III- Earth’s Embrace, you’ll then have 2 Ar of Ea. So if you want Ether Renewal, you can still use it. Or you can keep using signet of restoration. Either way, you’ve got 4 cantrips now (12 might stacks) so something should die within that time.
Or, you can take 0/20/10/20/20 and grab Final Shielding to couple with your two Armor of Earths, keeping sigil of battle since you won’t betting might from cantrips anymore.
Just be careful when you trait into arcane. It’s very tempting to just go back to 30. I assure you, we can live at 20 and below.

heals for 2000-3000 and has an internal CD of 5 seconds or so I heard.
U mistake with Cleansing Water. The GM trait for Arcane has 10s CD for each elements means you can’t get dodge roll effect twice under 10s in Water but you can dodge roll in different elements and still get the eff off despite two are just 1s away.

Agree with most of you said. To some classes, Conditions is way more easy to reapply, take Engines or Necro for example. First rotation, you will cleanse 5 cons using the method mentioned. However, once you switch out of water, you are blocked out of water for the next 13s with only 10 pts in Arcane, cleansing Fire is put into 50s CD. The only other way to save you from Conditions is ER now,but the heal is way too easy to be disrupted with no Armor of Earth back up. So that is what worries me the most. Have you tried S/F for this build to help out a bit on Condition cleanse?I tried it, improve survival but less Dps and kind of awkward to use.

Hey there, I am running typical Cantrip Build in Tourney. I have no problem to survive with this build. What I want to ask us tips on how to deal with condition with Bob build with only 10,15 in Arcana. That reduces a lot in term of our Condition Cleanse. I have no doubt that the build works wonder in team fight, what I have trouble with is 1on1 duel and I can not survive Conditions with BoB build, exactly the same and I tried with all the weapon set, some works better than others but overall result is still very hard time against Conditions. thanks.

AoE Nerfs were announced some time ago already. Basically they stated they don’t like how people use AoEs on single targets or downed players in WvW, and they want to change that. They announced significant updates to all AoE skills in the game (looking at their current track record, that will probably result in something along the lines of 50% damage reduction for every AoE in the game). Doesn’t take a lot to imagine what this is gonna mean for staff.
Sigil of Battle and Sigil of Energy (battle being the most popular sigil for D/D by a longshot) are considered too strong by the Devs and will be ‘reworked’ (my guess is battle will lose might application entirely and get stomped down to useless-tier). This has been confirmed in the same STOG that announced the RTL + Mistform nerfs IIRC.

Seriously, what do you expect in the forums of a profession that gets gradually nerfed down with each and every patch they release?
Eles are struggling pretty hard already and are only borderline viable in any gamemode other than sPvP. The latest set of nerfs hit pretty hard (not like we didn’t have an entire build [bunker staff] getting straight out deleted already), AND they already have the next batch of nerfs announced & prepared (sigill of battle ‘rework’ [everybody knows it’s just gonna be a massive nerf] + AoE nerfs). What do you expect when joining these forums? Everybody happily enjoying their already battered class, faithfully ignoring the 2 killing blows glancing on the horizon?

I haven’t been keeping record of my crit damage with arcane blast since I typically use it to either bait a dodge or finish an escaping opponent. I could start using it more often for the middle of the fights and get back to you.Recently, I’ve started taking cleansing fire for the condition removal instead of arcane blast. My reason for this is because A. Wave feels like just enough to keep the pressure on for most fights. I’v also been switching between LF and MF depending on whether the enemy has a thief or mesmer (MF against burst) on their team.
Arcane shielding would be a great substitute for blast, since it would aid in getting off churning earth. Even if you do not use it for churning, the block is still work it.

This build can work quite well in duels. With that said, I believe a disclaimer is in order. If you were/are having issues fighting engis, rangers, thieves, and mesmers in their fotm builds while using Ele bunker/hybrid, don’t expect to do well with this build.The reason I say this is because of the 3.25 second increase on the attunement recharge. Typically, we swap into water when are having trouble. The first swap is fine. However, if you find that you swap in and out of water whenever it is up, you’re going to have a bad time. You need (read: it is absolutely necessary) to have good micro-managing skills and dodging skills. Or else you will meet your fate over and over—which may drive you to pick up the bunker set-up again.
It takes time, and patience to get use to the higher CD on swaps. But, I believe it is worth it.
I would actually like to make a detailed comparison of what 30 in arcane actually gives us.
Yes, I am using this build against all class, but except Eles (thanks to their low dams as a bunker) Warrior (able to burst them down thanks to their squishiness),Mesmer is 50/50 ,pretty much all other class, I have trouble dealing with, including Guardian. It is not direct dams that worries me, it is the condition dams that eat me alive due to no longer have access to Water as fast as bf,what is your tips on dealing with in this matter?

Look at their base HP and you will understand why they got such a good condition removal…
Standard bunker build is 16 to 17k hp…..same as bunker ranger or engineer.
you wrote about the ele. and the standard bunker ele is far from 16k or 17k hp. its more about 13,8k-14k.
You’ve got 30 in water, and you can use either cleric or pvt amulets.
My feeling when people say condis aren’t sticky is usually that they either a) don’t melee or b) they’ve never fought an Engie who knows what he’s doing. Condi bombs from well-played Necros can be scary as well.
Show me a single video of a necro even scratching a competent bunker ele. You will never build up more than 4 stacks at a time on an ele that knows to manage his cleanses well and dodge the REALLY slow scepter #2 and dagger #5 skills.
With soldier Amulet, Eles health pool is higher than 16-17k but their healing is GREATLY reduce. Why you don’t see many Eles go with Soldier Amulet, because the amulet offers nothing much besides larger health pool. Eles is not made as a killing machine, they better off with Berserker Amulet if they want to be Dps, but made as a bunker, therefore Cleric,Valkyrie is much better choice.
Speak from my experience, I duel with a Necro 1vs1 the other day using Staff plus something else which I don’t remember. The number of conditions he could put on me is not scary but the ability to constantly applied 15+ stack of Bleeding with just his auto attack and his weapon skill. Sure Eles has a lot of Conditions Cleanse but except Water attune has 9s CD, the other condition cleanse got very high CD ( yes, I am talking about Cantrip + Cleansing Water trait but no longer god anymore due to 5s CD). A good Necro will know when an Eles enter and out of Water to put constant pressure.

Sry but you are completely wrong in PvP.PvE, I have 16k Hp wearing Full Berserker Gear with divinity runes and run 10 air, 30 water,30 arcane. On PvP, no way you could get that with Cleric or Valkyrie Amulet, the max I can reach with Valkyrie is 14500 HP with Runes of Earth. Don’t know where you get that number from but try it yourself if you don’t believe me. Again, with that setup, they are not able to kill you AT ALL, unless you are a bad player or run glass cannon build.

As long as the boss is not aggro you,you stay range and you got comrades to cover for you, I suppose. Staff would be ok but D/D, the build is not very tanky enough to melee.

Building for D/D in PvE is bad. Build for PvE, dont build for a specific weapon because some events requiers you not to melee.

How would it work with bleed stacks?
Then the big number, in the middle of conds icon or on top of the icon, will shows the time left on the condition while the small number on the bottom right will shows the stack, much like what it shows right now.

I would prefer no more nerf but more buff pls. Esport game is where competitive play, winning or losing decided in a tick. Keep nerfing thing will make the game more and more boring since there will be one point no one will be able to do anything soon…

I would say map chat should stay at what they are now, visible only to that continent. However, I would love to see you can whisper to a different player in Eu for example, then join in the same PvP server and have a match.
I believe that the intentional purpose of this thread is being lost.
My suggestion was to make it so that everyone on an NA server would go to the same Heart of the Mists map or an overflow if the map is full.Alternatively those on a EU server would go to another Heart of the Mists map; not the same HOM as NA.
While your idea is great but for doing so,many problem would rise. Here are some of the problem:
1/Lag would occur more often, due to a large amount of players packed in one place. Not to mention some players already have issue with their Net already like me. By doing so, it just adds more frustration to players.
2/ Not enough dummies to practice. More people but the same number of Practice Dummy, will make people hard to test out their build to see their dams. I guess that you also hate other player jump in and kill your dummies while you testing your build.
3/Map chat will be unable to handle with all the context. Each text will be able to see like o.5s before it is filled up with other text. Not to mention if you want to normal chat with your friend, first you won’t be able to see it on your chat due to many chat happened at once. Second your screen will fill up with a whole lot of random Chat bubble everywhere. If u wish to chat in private, we can already doing so by Whispering or Sending Mail.
4/You won’t be able to see your friend character due to the large number of people packed in the same place. We already have Guest Feature for this if u wish to see him in person. I have not tried to Guest in FOTM yet but I think it should work too.
Above are just some quick reason why I think the feature should not be implemented. We can already dueling anyone on different continent already. I am pretty happy with that. What we are lacking of atm is the feature that allows players from NA server compete with players from EU server. It would be awesome if we can have that.

Lol @ Stealth being optional. So, which is it:
A) You don’t play Thief.
B) You’re a moron.

Phew. At first I thought you are talking about me) Stealth is the only way for thief to defend themselves and Anet build thief to be a slippery class. So it would be a wonder to see Anet go through to make Stealth optional.
ANet revert RTL nerf already. I hate to be as slow as turtle and freaking you hit the door or any unmoving objects, it counts as miss and put on 40sCD…What the heck?

Oh god, you people think troll unguent is magic.
If you used it in the beginning of the fight, the heal will be useless for the duration your HP is at 100%. So when you start taking damage, it won’t have full duration and will NOT heal you all up. You will have to survive 15 seconds without any heal ability. The only real benefit of troll unguent over heal as one is the 120% healing scale, other than that it loses in all aspects.
Because enemies will sit and stare at the ranger at the beginning of a fight in a 1v1 or 1v2, of course, right? Since all of their damage will be mitigated by the preemptive Troll Unguent; might as well just give up and /sit at the start of the fight, correct?
It would be helpful if the leaderboard rank of everybody posting on these forum was displayed next to their name, so we know precisely who to discredit and ignore.
Well, that would create an unpleasant community and Anet, neither do I like to see that happening. Plus it is a bit of privacy issue involved. We already can see their username, so we can already use that to block them if we feel unpleasant toward them. I disagree to make them.

Right now, no more fee tournament entering, so Gem is not necessary. If you ate talking about gem on TP, then it would be awesome if we can exchange glory for Gem.
