Hello, Sorry for coming up with so many builds but I keep seeing lots of people complaining about tempest being a boring class to play … I think the boredom problem comes when you limit yourself to that some call meta builds.
Tempest (and all specializations) being so young means not everything is being said, there’s a lot of room for experimentation and the constant usage of premade builds won’t help the meta to avoid getting stuck in a local max … only diversity can help us from that problem…
That being said here is a tempest build that features a very active play style … Rolls (Dodge).What is the idea? Dodging
In this build when you dodge, you also apply aoe blindness (while on fire/air) for extra evasion, and get a guaranteed critical for an extra blind+burn. Add the fact that both build vigor making multiple dodges possible if spaced right when combining with blinds. When in a pinch switch to water attunement for roll healing + condition renewal, remember all your auras grant regeneration and vigor, and if shut your opponent gets weakness.Playing this build is fun! just dodge everything you see that hurts while stacking burning to your enemy in the process, your opponent will very likely run out of rotations faster than you will or be forced to relieve some burning just for you to apply it later for free.
Where do we exactly get the blind on dodge?
Instead of blaming of other players of losing pips, exploiting matches, tanking MMR, etc.
Stop.
They are not the problem.
The problem is:
“An incomplete, no MMR reset, premade vs pug, pip losing and gaining system league system which is created and presented without prior testing and balancing which in turn results into unbalanced matches, super long que times, and losing 2-3 pips as solo quer against decent premade”
This is the main problem, stop blaming each other guys, direct the blame to people who deserves it.

What if Diamond skin was changed to make protection work on condition damage as well as direct damage in the same way that the rev trait versed in stone augments rite of the great dwarf?
It would even stack with hardy conduit, so if you ran tempest you’d have -40% damage from conditions, and because tempest has infinite protection, you’d easily have 100% uptime.
I don’t think some weird pulsing resistance system is a good idea for a rework, its better to simply take this passive, odd, aged, trait, and remove the threshold to make it useful in every situation but not overpowered or completely useless in certain matchups as it is now.

That would be cool too. Some other proccy thing would help sell it as a trait compared to stone heart.

well a total MMR resest could be painful for new players who will have to face pro players early.
But I think a partial reset shoud be fine . Just cut the MMR 2 times or down every ppl who was above a certain point to a cap. (Eg two ppl that had 250 and 550 respectively are both downed to 100) and ppl under 100 are downed to zero.

This is a league so there MUST be a form of competition.
So when you get to higher divisions people are culled to good will stay so then you get good teammates.
On a related note, howler got intos nighttime animations un-nerfed, so thats a huge fashion buff for me!

Well typing everything with uppercase letters help almost as much as score does to a game.
So you are calling me dead weight when I defend home point from being captured through a whole match? Now usually I do get scores sometimes, I do this as there are players trying to take home point and I kill them but most of the time I get to fight Eles or other tanky builds and the fight can go on for almost the whole match if I don’t get help. But I know for sure that as long as I keep the cap point in my teams colour I am contributing to the team with or without any personal score. On the other hand for a tanky build trying to take the cap from an enemy player and who never succeeds to cap the point, well that player is a dead weight.

Are you talking about 1v1 wise? Why would you try to kill a bunker 1v1? You can’t. He can’t kill you either. However, if you want to pressure him into losing the node then scrapper would be your best bet.
by that logic, why did Chrono bunker needs a nerf?
Because it’s not only about 1v1. Chrono bunker made the whole team invulnerable (low cooldown) while pumping out tons of quickness and alacrity.
Tempest can be focus fire and die easily in a team fight.
Plus, you can never get the chrono bunker off the point with perma Stability. You literally have 0 chance of decapping a point.
Okay so when they Nerf DS, eles will just switch to Stone Heart.
Then people will be complaining about perma prot Stone Heart tempests next.
It’s a vicious cycle.
I proposed this after the first beta weekend, along with a trait that would extend the Scepter range to 1200 when wielding a Warhorn.
I guess that would have been too much fun.
Yea that would solve 70% of the WH’s clunkiness. The remaining 30% would be just tweaks like condi removal, more conditions or maybe an invuln.
All of the Warhorn skills will benefit from ground targetting. Especially the pulls and Water skills so you can heal your allies even with you not facing them.

While I understand that elementalist has a delicate balance that can be upset by the slightest of nerfs or buffs in many cases, I still cannot find it in me to agree with any scenario in which “don’t fight them” or “1vx” is accepted as a valid strategy.
There should be a hard counter for scenarios like this that doesnt require building specifically against it.

Scrapper can totally force the Tempest to lose a point.
Beside that, you shouldn’t fight a Tempest on a capped node anyway. If it’s your point, you win, the Tempest hits like a wet noodle and can’t kill you. If it’s neutral, you win, the Tempest can’t support the big team fight, and can’t cap you. If it’s enemy capped, what the kitten you’re doing there with a bunker?
This should be copy-pasted in every thread QQing about 1v1 ing a DS Tempest.

I’m all for nerfing the crap out of terribly-designed passives. I want to see more passives nerfed too (all those offensive passive procs like panic strike and incendiary powder especially). I would love to see traits modify active skills in interesting ways to promote different skill usages, as opposed to making hard-counters.
My previous suggestion:
You become immune to the following conditions depending on your current attunement:
Fire: Chill, burning
Air: Weakness, torment
Earth: Cripple, bleed
Water: poison, confusionIt creates interesting play for both the ele and the enemy. No matter what your strategy, even something like a burn guardian, you have significant windows to do your thing (save all your burn burst for after they leave fire, profit), while as an ele you have new defensive options if you intelligently use your attunements. Both sides can know what is going on and adjust their play actively to respond to one another – this is good design.
You are forgetting to look at the other side of the coin.
How bout condi spammers?
Yes I do agree with being skillful, but condi spamming isn’t either. So i think DS is fair.

Sure. I’m only refuting the suggestion that Tempest needs more offensive presence. It doesn’t; it has plenty. (and as I said, the issue is that its offense isn’t being used, with defense/support being favored instead, as the class doesn’t lend itself to doing both at the same time.)

Like I said, I’m an ele main…im usually the one on the ele side, not 1v1’ing him. The problem comes to how they synergize with another bunker/healer, druid/mesmer/ele. Basiclly it becomes impossible to kill me, or even do anything for that matter. Very little involvement of my part other than “spam all heals off CD”.
It doesnt promote healthy gameplay.
The other team can just rotate.

The meta tempest have bad mobility.
I for one have no problem with eles, it’s just a matter of teamwork.
Even if you remove DS, eles to begin with have very good condi removal, nothing will change, if ever they will get SH.
One simple guide to know if a Diamond Skin change idea is good is, “With the proposed change, would you want to use the trait?”
Of course the anti-ele faction will say yes, it’s a no brainer.

- Why would you 1v1 an ele on point if you play a condition class?

If low MMR people reach ruby for being less skillfull and being matched up with low MMR players,
When they finally reach ruby, they will get teamed up with Higher MMR players (which are more experienced).
Thus you get:
- Ruby/Diamond Division players who are oblivious to X
X = rotations, class mastery, counters, dodging, map awareness, capping, going far etc.
I’m not entirely sure Diamond Skin changing would rip Tempests out of the meta so much as mean they actually need to slot some condi cleanse. They could do this simply by using Trooper runes without changing the rest of the meta build. Other than Dagger/Warhorn, every Ele weapon set has a condition cleanse (which is more than any other profession can say, although Necro’s are more potent).
Given Shout Warriors were once sufficient to push condition builds entirely out of the meta, Trooper Rune Tempests played well probably don’t actually need Diamond Skin to survive conditions, since they do what Shout Warriors did, but better.
Even so, I’d like to see Diamond Skin remain an anti-condition trait regardless of whatever (if anything) happens to it. Just needs to be less binary.

so you basically only have 3 shouts that are <30 seconds.
Thats an average of 3 conditions every 24 seconds.
You have to trait into cleansing water and ivigorating torrents. Just to make it feasible.
But you dont have any aura team support and stability on overloads which I think is very dumb not to get it, even with the presence of a good team.
Just posting it here for more general ideas.

There is 1 major flaw with making it a boon.
If it’s a boon everyone will need to have access to it. It’s not gonna be unique to mesmer anymore.
A lot of that (Not all of it) would stop if they would put premades in separate queues.
Which I, and many people, have been arguing for FOREVER.
ANet doesn’t listen. They like to say “Oh we’re focusing on PvP!”, but the one thing that actually makes sense? Lets not do that!
So now, any random scrub could climb the latter, just via having a team of decent players carry them.
And even a random scrub would likely do better over a TS with friends.
Really, the game should only allow up to duo q in the “solo q” mode, and should have a separate team q, which should require 5 players.
Sure, someone with only 3 friends is going to have to find someone to join him.
Oh well.A few people being a little bit unhappy is better than every solo q player being annoyed by running into premades constantly.
Especially at late hours in NA.

And yes, tempests tanking potential is silly, boring, uncreative and lacks the imaginative aspects of a good developer.
Coming from an engi this is rich really…maybe you should buy HoT and try scrapper…then come back after taking a long walk…and remove your comment, if tempest dev is bad…god forbid what should happen to the engi/scrapper designer -_-
As someone who played engi and loved it as a “main” character, I am really shocked on what you said. There is no scrapper dev, and you not knowing this shows your ignorance. Everybody knows the scrapper was made by a running turtle.
Jokes aside, scrapper is also bad. But ele is plain “boring”. Not bad, not underpowered, not overpowered. I am not talking about power. I am talking about lack of imagination, the immensity of boringness.

The game isn’t 1v1.
If you use weapons of mass destruction against a single target it is not the fault of the weapon that only 1 get killed. ;-)Every weapons autoattack is balanced against its usefulness. So melee weapons in general are stronger then ranged weapons because you have the range disadvantage. Single target weapons are stronger because you can hurt only one enemy which is a big disadvantage against a group. That’s although the reason why thief and necro dagger is quite strong.
Yes the game is not 1v1, but the test is. We are talking about the test here. There is a reason why the OP posted a 1v1 video.
Stronger with 1000 power 150 ferocity and 0 precision vs a ranged weapon with 2200 power? with 500 ferocity and 1050 precision?
Single Target weapons are stronger? Please check the coefficients on necro dagger, warrior axe, etc.
One more fact: Both Necro and thief dagger are multi-target weapons. Check Facts please.
Melee Weapons are stronger? Please. Warrior Sword with LB ranger? Even with Just Rapid Fire, LB outdamages Warrior Sword hands down.
Want another example? Mesmer GS. Don’t tell me It can’t outdamage a Mesmer MH Sw.
Plus, LB deals more damage the farther away from the target. Mesmer GS too.

Again it would not have mattered, even if you dont have that trait its pretty obvious rev sword still hits super hard with 0 power.
That is the point of this video, The sword hits ridiculously strong even with 0 power, even with 0 precision, even with 150 ferocity, even with 0 fury even with 0 conditions even if the ele had frost armor on.
