Female charr Ancestral Outfit

Definitely would like to see more tail ornamentation… so yes, let’s make this one actually work for both genders of Charr.

It’s a pretty absurd outfit, IMO, but clearly some people like it.

That’s actually what prompted this question – despite that word, there are still people steadfastly sticking to the idea that it’s an anti-botting feature.

So this message from the Black Lion Trading Company has been around for a long (long) time. Many people are convinced it’s an anti-botting feature. Some of us think it’s a devious database/UI/server synch problem.

Can we get an official word on which it is? Bug, or feature? I’m not sure anything will change some minds, short of code samples… even that might not be enough. But I’d love to find out for sure.

And how about you, populous at large? Bug, or feature? Explain your answer. Would anything change your beliefs? Have a muffin.

Right-Click Menu on Emotes

Yeah, it’s silly that I can’t right-click on an emote generator’s name. Many people use this to get around being reported and/or blocked.

Having robbed us of the ability to dress like any of the bathers at Lion’s Arch or Southsun Cove beaches, or be the way the game forces you into, at Pearl Inlet… give us some actual CLOTHING (not tonics) suitable for swimming and basking on a sunny beach!

And please, for Smodur’s sake… make some appropriate for Charr? If you’ve gotta have something to hide the nothing… the default drapey bit isn’t too bad. But dye-able now, please?

What is GW2 missing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stormdancer.4972

Stormdancer.4972

A short list of things I think are absurd for a game like this to be missing.

1) Guild halls. C’mon. Promised before the game even launched.

2) Player housing. Having a player ZONE isn’t the same thing. Again, promised a house that would react to your personal story… what we got was a zone where certain NPCs turn on or off.

3) Chairs you can sit in. C’mon, other games have solved the ‘very different body sizes’ thing.

4) A decent variety of town clothing. We’ve taken a big step backwards with this, now. It’s ridiculous that I can’t mix-and-match outfit pieces.

5) The ability to filter out items I can’t use, from every single shopping screen. Again… this is a silly thing to be missing. Especially since the BLTC already has a filters section, and even has a ‘show only available’ checkbox. Why no ‘show only usable’ as well?

6) Some way to group RPers, and show an RP flag. Getting us filthy casual roleplayers out of your hardcore PvPvW soup is just good for everyone.

Feedback/Questions: MegaServer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stormdancer.4972

Stormdancer.4972

I’m happy with almost everything about the megaservers. The larger populations are nice, in most cases.

However, it’s utterly wrecked any sense of community within a server.

Most events have become absurd zergfests.

Roleplay … well, there’s plenty written about that.

[Suggestion] Mounts?

Stormdancer.4972

No mounts, please. Thanks.

However, I would like to see roads offer a speed bonus. Maybe even a slight defensive bonus. Basically… let there be any reason at all for roads to exist, ‘cause they sure don’t have one now.

Stormdancer.4972

It’s frustrating that ANet created a game with one of the best environments for roleplay… and then seems to have abandoned that very part of the game.

Well over a year after launch and we still can’t even sit in chairs? Really? Other games have solved this problem, even with races that have a wide range in sizes and shapes.

The town clothes debacle… argh. There’s so many better ways they could have handled this. Even just making it act like a fourth class of armor. They had it so close, then wrecked it.

I’d love to see them spend a little time and effort on retaining the very people who stick with a game for a long time, and buy lots of gem items. Give us a feature and content update that focuses on roleplayers. Please. Because there’s a lot of games out there, and I don’t want to lose more of my guild to them than I already have.

Remember – you have to actually be IN the zone, to see if the waypoint is really contested.

Thanks to the Megaserver system, every waypoint that COULD be contested, IS contested, on the map view. Unless you’re actually in the zone. That’s because the MS doesn’t know what shard you’d wind up in, if you chose to go there… and thus, doesn’t know the true state.

Kind of an obvious shortcoming. I hate having to pay (and load!) twice.

20 days and 15 pages since the last official comment. That’s really depressing. It’d be nice for someone to at least give a token “We’re working on the problem”.

Some very rational solutions have been proposed, many of which seem like they fit right in with the technical concepts of the megaserver.

My Charr warband guild has gained one new member entirely as a result of the megaserver (IE: from another server), which is very cool… and a great example of how it CAN work, with a little fine-tuning.

So the Armor

in Charr

Posted by: Stormdancer.4972

Stormdancer.4972

It’s really sad that some of the Charr CULTURAL ARMOR, armor made for them and only them… still doesn’t fit right. How can you make Charr cultural armor without any kind of space for the tail?

The armor that does it right is great… but it’s really absurd that those pieces made specifically for the race could get it so wrong.

Of course, this kind of issue is exactly why most games don’t even bother with a real beast race like this – they all look like “Star Trek Aliens”. Humans with clip-on ears and tail.

Stormdancer.4972

I’m really frustrated by the way the megaserver system has broken up the sense of community that TC once had.

Though I find it very frustrating that ANet has refused to officially indicate any server as an RP home, I understand why… and that’s not the point here. The point is to try to find opportunity instead of frustration.

If the megamap system really does group people by certain preferences, specifically those indicated in the LFG system… why not add “RP” to that LFG list? Or in some way make it possible for that RP preference to be known to the system.

Then, regardless of server, roleplayers would tend to be grouped together, rather than being split apart as seems to be the case now.

Posted by: Stormdancer.4972

Stormdancer.4972

I do sincerely wish ANet would just commit, and actually label TC & PS as roleplay servers…. or maybe just as ‘roleplay friendly’.

I understand this is a mixed blessing, and a potential pain for them, but roleplayers stick with a game for a LONG TIME. And they buy lots of gemstore items.

It’d be nice to have a ‘roleplay’ tag … or add ‘roleplay’ to the LFG tool.

Feedback/Questions: Town clothes, Costumes, & Combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stormdancer.4972

Stormdancer.4972

What I don’t understand is… why not simply treat town clothes like armor… just like you said. JUST like armor, it’s got head/shirt/pant/shoes/etc pieces.

The real problem is that you didn’t provide town clothes… you provided Halloween costumes. Each race gets one outfit they ALL wear, and then there’s some ridiculous outfits, and a couple of hoodies and other things. Nothing like the variety that NPCs get.

A suggestion for Projector spawns

in Suggestions

Posted by: Stormdancer.4972

Stormdancer.4972

While I appreciate the effort made to make the spawns less camped, and give lower level players more of a chance… all the newest update really did is make them almost impossible for many people to solo. Which just makes the camping worse. And now people just delay their massive AOE attacks for a few seconds.

I suggest this simple change:
When active, the projector should stay active for a random 5-10 seconds, releasing a random creature every second.

No need for invulnerability at all, because the staggered release counteracts the burst attacks. And it will, IMO, look better.

Let pets 'smell' invisible creatures/players.

in Suggestions

Stormdancer.4972

Ranger pets, obviously… but that made a title too long for the forums.

This is, of course, of particular use in WvW, but I think it would be handy everywhere.

Just give the pets a small chance of detecting invisible monsters or players, every few seconds.

This is easy to tweak, by modifying the chance of detection, the interval of check, and even the animals this is possible with. You might limit it to pigs, for instance – Thieves taste like truffles!

Pigs-only, the more I think about it, is kinda nice. They’re a pretty useless pet, and it would allow thieves to spot, very easily, animals that are a threat to their cloaking.
