BW3 Difficulty Nerf [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Straylight.7529

I hope the reduction in difficulty wasn’t because of player feedback…

it’s probably intentional so that players get faster to the new bosses. At least I hope so.

That’s what I hope too but it also works the other way: What if they intentionally cranked up the difficulty in BW2 so people would spend more time fighting the mobs and the difficulty we have in BW3 is how it’s always supposed to be?

Which ascended slot first??

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Straylight.7529

Straylight.7529

The bulk of the stats will be provided with ascended trinkets. So if you haven’t got them already I suggest you start there.

Otherwise it’s generally accepted that ascended weapons have a higher priority than ascended armor because the weapons increase both stats and base weapon damage (which is a multiplier) while armor increases stats and defense (which is only added to your toughness) As a result you get more out of ascended weapons than armor. (It’s about 5% more damage).

4 new maps?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Straylight.7529

Straylight.7529

do these maps (map… we have only seen verdant brink) feel as large as maps from gw2 core? do they feel as expansive and interesting (ymmv)?

No, they feel (and are) vastly bigger than the core maps. Both in terms of explorable space and amount of content.

i don’t really like verdant brink. feels cramped and i don’t like the verticality, it gives the illusion of space

Verticality only creates an illusion of space if it isn’t used in any meaningful way. That is clearly not the case on the Verdant Brink map.

should we expect the other three maps to be like vb? will setting change? jungle is boring me already. i wish they had done this like caledon forest with more variety to the terrain…some swamps some jungle some water.

It’s safe to assume that the other three maps will be like Verdant Brink when it comes to verticality, amount & quality of content. The overall setting will not change since everything is going to be jungle-themed. However it’s unfair to say that there will be no variety. With three biomes (canopy, floor and roots) I’m sure expansion will have plenty of variety to offer and what I’ve seen so far on the beta-weekends confirms that. If even Caledon Forest offers enough variety regarding terrain for you I wouldn’t worry too much about lack of variety on the new maps.

Is that it?

Straylight.7529

If doing hearts and “tasks” (events?) is getting boring to you I suggest trying out one or several of the following activities:

-exploration
-personal story /living story
-jumping puzzles
-crafting
-spvp
-World vs. World
-hunt achievements
-dungeons & fractals
-joining a guild for guild-exclusive activities
-gather weapon and armor skins
-world bosses

I can’t really answer whether there are “epic” quests in GW2 because it’s ultimately a matter of opinion. I thought the personal story was so-so. However Living Story Season 2 I found far more enjoyable. You need to be lvl. 80 for the living story but you don’t have to finish the personal story in order to access it.

Any fps drop on new maps?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Straylight.7529

Thanks for answer! I really appreciate the comparison between Verdant Brink and Dry Top / Silverwastes.

I would also love to hear from someone who has a slightly worse PC than Straylight. I myself have about 30 FPS on high settings in SIlverwastes.

I have a gtx 780 and an i7 4930k @ 3.4 ghz. GW2 is mostly CPU bound. I play GW2 maxed out except character limit & quality both on medium.

If you were happy with your performance so far I wouldn’t worry too much about HoT performance.

Any fps drop on new maps?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Straylight.7529

Straylight.7529

I’ve had a substantial fps drop during the first beta weekend when looking at the burning skyship right at the entrance of Verdant Brink (from 60 fps down to 45 fps). Reducing all my graphics settings to the minimum didn’t help either.

Apart from that I was able to run the game at or close to 60 fps. Reducing the “reflections” options from “all” to “sky and terrain only” helped to get rid of most seemingly random fps drops.

I’m not sure if that’s the info you’re looking for but I found the performance similar to the one I get in Dry Top or Silverwastes. Use that as a proxy.

In the livestream “Making of the Launch Trailer” they talked about how they created the “Vine-monster at the end of the trailer". They didn’t refer to it as Mordremoth. So it looks like Mordremoth used the environment to create an avatar to speak with Rytlock & the others.

My first impression after watching the trailer yesterday was that we’re dealing with Mordremoths true phyiscal form but now I prefer the fact that it was just an avatar.

Which part do you have to replay? You said you finished episode three. That would be the foefire cleansing with Rytlock. Where exactly is the green start located after you finish the foefire cleansing?

Could it be that the next green start is part of your Personal Story?

Just to make one thing clear: after you finish the foefire cleansing you’re done with Episode 3 and you can safely move on to Episode 4 without missing out on anything.

I believe the green star that pops up after you finish Episode 3 is the one that belongs to the personal story (if you haven’t finished it yet).

Also I don’t think the game makes you replay Episode 3. It gives you the option to replay it, sure, but it doesn’t prevent you from moving on to Episode 4.

You only say that because you want GW2 to fail. Not because it’s actually failing.

What does HoT appear to be, then?
In other words, it’s a low quality DLC. Trying to pretend it’s a season pass.

Going by the last information available, we’re getting 4 maps with HoT with 3 layers each. I personally played in both beta weekends so far, and we got to play 50% in total of only the first map. IMO it felt huge. Bigger then any map currently in gw2, and we still haven’t seen the rest 50% of it. This I remind you, was only 1 of the 4 new maps, and they will all be in similiar size. You can easily open the world map and see for yourself how huge Maguuma Wastes is on the map compared to other regions.

Timberline Falls, Lornar’s Pass, Blazeridge Steppes and half a dozen other maps all call kitten on your statement.

As they say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I will illustrate a proof of my statement. Next time check your facts, before going into the forum and screwing.
Also perhaps you forget the part of my statement that the new maps with be with 3 layers each, every layer the same size as the previous 2.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to show with this picture? Yes, the Maguuma Wastes are huge but that’s not where HoT will take place. The remaining three maps will be south of Verdant Brink not north.

Straylight.7529

We saw Faolain fighting besides Mordrem in the Point of no Return cinematic indicating she is already supporting Mordremoth.

She was fighting PACT soldiers shortly after a scene where people were attacking non-corrupted Sylvari. Her fighting PACT soldiers doesn’t automatically mean she and Modremoth are united.

It’d be poor writing if they had the Nightmare Court do a 180 about their stance on the Elder Dragons.

She was fighting pact soldiers next to Mordrem including a corrupted troll. It was in the same scene.

I didn’t say she was united with Mordremoth. That’s why I used the word “supporting”. Maybe Mordremoth isn’t even aware of her and she just uses the chaos to her advantage.

Also we see Faolain lifting up the guy she just impaled which turns into the eye of Mordremoth accompanied with the dragon’s roar. As if she’s giving him as an “offer” to Mordremoth.

It’s very likely Faloin and the Nightmare Court are going to support Mordremoth in one way or another. Whether it’s solely to help the dragon or for their own goals remains to be seen.

You are thinking way too hard about this. Your long-winded and multi-layered pseudo-justification of why HoT should be priced less than $50 is not going to make Arenanet drop the price.

The expansion costs $50. Accept that or move on.

I just don’t see how 1 character slot equals out to paying even more money for a game that I spent $90 in the first place that is now worthless

You had access to the game for three years. If you feel that all those memories and the time you spent in Tyria has been made worthless then I’m sorry to hear that.

At the lowest option that means I am spend a total of $140 to avoid a chat restriction, economy restriction and for a character slot.

Honestly speaking 10 random strangers shouldn’t be able to progress at all in there. They shouldn’t expect any reasonable progress in their first attempts, when they don’t even know the mechanics, their attempt would only be for laughs and giggles.

If the act of swapping itself is what annoys you then maybe allowing players to save different builds and item loadouts might be a solution.

On the other hand if you think players should not be allowed to swap once they enter the dungeon/raid in order to create an additional layer of challenge than that would be more difficult to address.

Yes swapping pre made templates alleviates lots of the sillyness of the thing. but they’ve made it clear that we’ll get no “dual specks” or template savers …

Plus maybe they’ll design something interesting that requires skill with your build instead of swapping around stuff. There’s nothing challenging about that. With build locking they might make the raid dance more interesting

Have they given reasons why they won’t do dual-specs?

And what do you mean with “requires skill with your build”? Do you mean encounters that require a player to take certain synergizing talents or he/she won’t be able to beat the encounter?

you are right, number of maps really isn’t the defending factor. But still, in my head, there is this voice telling me, that is still only 4 maps and it is going to cost me $60 dollars. Is it really worth it? I will wait. Who knows, when the review is out and everyone is talking about how fun and awesome and best of the best of these 4 maps really is. I will pay that $60 dollars. But, my mind is still set at $10 right now.

Actually I have the same voice in my head. And at least in my case I believe it’s coming from my experience with other MMO’s. When I heard " x Maps" in WoW than I knew exactly how much content/volume of exploration I was facing while waiting for one of their expansions to release. And the number one reason for that was the fact that Blizzard never increased their content per map ratio. Even the new maps of their most recent expansion don’t offer more content than in any other expansion they released in the past 10 years. You’ll quest through those new maps just as fast as the old ones.

Now with HoT many of us are faced with an huge increase in the volume of content per map. Vanilla maps feel laughable in comparison. In Gendarran Fields starting from the west you fight some risen, than you help some farmers with their pirate problems while unlocking a vista then you defend the estate of an asura and oops, you already reached the other side of the map.

as far as I know, I am only into this game due to PvE and I will not pay $60 for 4 maps.

It’s not really the number of the maps that matters but rather how much content and replayability they offer. Everything we’ve seen so far in the beta points towards those new maps being densely filled with content. Even the part of the first map which was accessible during the beta puts the old vanilla maps to shame when it comes to volume of exploration.

You can dislike the expansion for other reasons, sure, but basing your decision whether you’re going to buy it or not on the number of maps would be an unreasonable thing to do.

All the content we have helped to create over the last three years is now being given away for free, that means its worthless. HoT isnt an expansion for GW2, it is all GW2 will be from relese day and thereafter. Of course when the next expansion comes out HoT will be added to F2P and what you pay today will be as worthless as the core game.

Just because there is no price tag on it doesn’t mean it’s worthless. Just because they are making the core game free doesn’t invalidate all the time people spent in Tyria.

“People who want to pay”, what are you even talking about? The only reason to pay for skins is to get them faster.

Yes, people who’d rather pay for an outfit and receive it instantly rather than giving money to arenanet so they can do a special event two weeks later in order to earn it. Have you already lost track of why you made this thread in the first place? Maybe you should go back to your original post and reread it.

Doing one event isn’t particulary time consuming and you don’t even need to pay for the skins to get them. You just can to get more skins into the game.

I already addressed that in one of my previous posts. Creating events is time consuming. They rather spend that time and resources in creating something substantial like an expansion or living story updates opposed to something insubstantial like what you’re describing.

Also, each person with in the right mind would want to have a straight talk with you about wether or not this game is just a giant wardrobe.

This game is not all about a wardrobe but it does have a wardrobe (unlike certain other MMO’s) and it IS quite an extensive one on top of that. Since gathering skins is a very important element of horizontal progression, so is the wardrobe.

No. that’s not what I meant. I simply meant that that the gem shop accomodates those people who’d rather pay to receive an outfit/item/reward instead of playing (which is completely fine) For those who don’t want to do that there is plenty of stuff they can earn by doing pve/pvp content.

This is the single most ridiculous thing I’ve heard for a while now. Who in the right mind plays a game to simply buy everything they want to have? Why are they playing in the first place? Those people are not the ones that should influence the development of a game in any way.

There are plenty of things in the game you can’t buy in the gem shop. People who want outfits or items instantly can buy them on the gem shop. People who want to work for items can do the pve-content. There is something for everyone

That is pretty narrow minded. Also, the whole reason why I don’t like the gemstore is that you “just pay” to get the reward. I don’t want to pay to get it, I want to play to get it. I want to pay so that I can play more.

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying. They spend their resources into making an expansion and living story updates instead of a phletora of mini-events for every little gem shop item.

That’s not narrow minded. I’m not even sure why you’re using that word. That’s just how the development of GW2 content works. Also the gemshop of GW2 is not intended to be a kickstarter project where you give them money and they give you something back later.

Also you’re ignoring the fact that there are people out there who’re completely happy with the current implementation of the gem shop and don’t want to earn their rewards. They pay money and they deserve getting whatever they bought instantly. Your version of the gemshop would clash with those people.

Dear ANet,
“Listen up player, you want new skins and stuff to do? We’ll create them, but that costs money. So here’s the deal: You pay us and if we have gathered enough money to cover the expenses, we’ll create a new event and put in the skin as reward.”

That’s basically what they’re doing but they cut out the middleman (the event in your example) and go straight to the reward. You pay → you get reward. The time and resources for not having to deal with creating such events get reallocated into building something on a bigger scale (expansion).

They clearly can’t do both, so you’d have to make a choice. What would you prefer?

I’m sure the expansion will have plenty more to offer than raiding. Think of it as one more feature for people who’re into it. Since there is no gear treadmill you won’t have to raid in order to keep up with everyone else.
