I havent played a ranger in spvp since like.. christmas.
But back then I could do very well with shortbow/sword build with p/t/v amulet, force on weapon, ogre runes, and if i recall correctly, survival and beast master traits.
I dont know enough about rangers to make an argument, but I remember having decent utilities with stunbreaks, quickness, roots, an elite with long stability, and lots of traits that cleanse conditions. Pet swapping a lot with ravens or maybe it was one of the other birds, i cant remember.
Edit: Oh and that heal over time was amazing with pvt gear… Very strong ability.
Anyway, I would say ranger is better than ele atm, maybe mesmers..
I loath this map… when I do spvp, its just in a random join game, so when Im fighting to defend a node, I dont need some mega laser making my job nearly impossible.
Cant even count the number of 1v1 or 2v1’s ive been in and would have won if i hadnt been screwed by that laser.
Certain professions having iWin buttons when in the vicinity of the edge of the map isnt cool either. Nor are the glass floors, although those havent caused me much grief.
You can tell me to just “mind my surroundings” but the fact remains that this map favors certain classes/builds heavily over others, and I dont pvp to play against the terrain, I pvp to combat other players.
There are hard counters in this game… thats just the way it is. However hard a condition necro can wreck a guardian, a mace/hammer warrior can wreck that necro just as bad.
At the same time, my thief can burst down cond. necros pretty easy, however again, warriors have so much durability from melee and high damage attacks that I have to play very well to beat a warrior on my thief.
I don’t pvp very often, so I wont claim to be super skilled, but from my experience, warriors are way more out of control right now compared to condition users.
Big damage + loads of knockdowns/stuns + high passive survivability = bad news.
Because casuals.
If you are just being sarcastic I apologize, but people misuse this word so much.
I think the word you are looking for is “Bad”.
Being a casual player has nothing to do with being bad at dodging/building your character. I get it that a lot of time, casual players correlate to bad players, but lets not generalize here.
You make me proud to attempt and accomplish this on a Necro, too many warriors/ele’s doing it.
I think adding cleave to axe auto is one of the most obvious things you could do to improve it at this point. It has been suggested many times, and Necro’s lack a cleave option entirely.
I’m really excited about the minion and blood tree changes.
Necro is easier to survive with, but they don’t bring anything useful to a group that other classes can’t do better. A thief on the other hand is capable of providing some of the highest potential dps in the game(I think only elementalist hammer specs are higher).
So yeah, if you can play a thief well enough to survive in dungeons without being 1-hit killed(which is half learning to dodge, and half learning the dungeons, and what abilities enemies have), then thief is a better dungeon class than Necro.
However, Necro is still viable for casual dungeons, is easier to survive with, and can be very fun to play… thats why I made it my first alt.
What the hell is a transmog?
This is definitely one of those things they should have fixed during their beta over a year ago.
Other games feature DoT classes, and miraculously they can all deal their damage just fine. This ‘technical limitation’ excuse is getting really old. Its 2013, you can’t use that excuse for everything.
OH and to the boneheads using the argument: “It’s okay because the fight has adds, go kill those”, what if the fight DIDN’T have adds? Your argument is completely irrelevant. The simple facts are that you cannot dps as a condition spec on open world bosses, and you also cannot dps as conditions in 5man dungeons if there are more than one condition spec!
Why even have condition specs in the game if you can’t use them in PvE at all other than leveling?
Bad idea. You can’t just change how every condition spec in the game works and expect it to be balanced. You would probably end up killing condition specs entirely. Condition damage takes a lot longer to apply than direct damage, that’s why they can build tanky… they have to, otherwise there would be no point in playing conditions.
Especially since the stronger condition users have 50% crit on their amulets anyway… so with your ‘overhaul’, what would change about them?
If conditions are too strong, then they just need to adjust class traits/abilities. Shortening the duration for bleeding/burning/poison on abilities is a good place to start… make condition duration more important.
same for me, really annoying
I have had a problem with the visuals in GW2 for about a week now. It is a sort of X-Ray vision which happens a lot, and it makes it really hard to play in some cases, and it usually only happens when turning my view in certain way, like up or down.
I’ll post pictures to show what I mean.
I have tried fiddling with the graphics options in GW2, nothing worked. My video card is an NVIDIA GTX 660 Ti, and I am using the default settings for GW2 in the video card menu.
My very first character that I made at launch was a thief, and I don’t remember this quest really frustrating me at all. I can’t even remember if I died at all…
I have recently leveled a human engineer who did this quest without being downed… in a mix of white and blue gear.
It is a challenge sure, but I personally didn’t find it to be too hard.
One of the big issues with that is that the weapons (and most likely the armor when it gets released) require a specific Inscription to be crafted.
If you can simply change the stats on the fly people would only ever create the one with the most common t6 material.you did not read the entire post. in order for an ascended to have a particular stat combination, you would need to own the original weapon with that stat.
it would be something like this.
Berserker ascended GS + Soldier ascended GS = Ascended GS that can swap between Berserker and soldier stats.
Then what is the point..?
Pain Response is usually better in pvp. In pve its not too bad with builds that spam attacks a lot.
You will get much more healing from signet of malice though. I think the reason most people dont use it is because there are simply much better options in acrobatics.
Healing signet is so crazy compared to other classes passive healing. You have to spend 20 pts in blood as a necro just to get 100 health on crit attacks, warrior gets passive 400 per second, unbelievable.
You know that HS occupies a Healing Skill slot, right? RIGHT?
Please, don’t compare it to HPS gained from traits. Compare it to HPS gained from traits PLUS HPS from your healing skill.
You wanna complain about Warrior cheese? Be my guest, but don’t bring stupid arguments to the table.
Thank you.
passive healing is passive healing, regardless of where it comes from. Shall I compare it to the thiefs healing signet(which also occupies a healing slot RIGHT??!11). Thief signet heals 100 per strike, meaning you have to actually hit something, and you lose healing if you’re CC’d, being kited, etc. To match the healing from warrior signet, a thief has to strike his target 4 times per second! lol
Now that you mention healing from traits, warriors also have passive healing from traits dont they? Passive healing from adrenalin is what exactly? Im not sure but ill bet its better than 40 healing per attack and 100 per attack that necros have to spend 20 pts in blood and two trait skills on.
The only buff I could possibly ask for would be to increase the duration of the protection we get from it. Other than that, it is an amazing defensive cooldown, for any necro build.
LOL necro’s dont have any invulnerable skills.. you are complaining about necro as a warrior, thats funny.
Thieves dont perma stealth, and if they do, they arent killing anyone so congratulations. Mesmer clones confuse you? Why am I not surprised.
Warriors aren’t really OP, but they are soooo easy to play that most people see them as being OP. They are also made to be the best at pretty much anything in PvE. Need top teir damage? bring warrior, need top tier support? bring warrior, need a class that can survive easy in full dps gear? roll warrior.
Healing signet is so crazy compared to other classes passive healing. You have to spend 20 pts in blood as a necro just to get 100 health on crit attacks, warrior gets passive 400 per second, unbelievable.
And to the noob who told necros to “slot stunbreakers”. its a good thing warriors cc recharges about 500% faster than necro stunbreakers, even if he gimps himself and runs more than 1.
Again, Im not saying the class overall is too powerful, but when you play other classes and then try a warrior, its shocking how easy it is to steamroll over people with crap like GS/mace/shield, or hammer.
I love when people conclude an argument with “get over it”. Right… why don’t we buff Necros to have warrior level support, and survivability, and let them keep high damage. Then nerf guardian and warrior support to almost nothing, nerf their survival, then tell them “your dps is enough” you are still ‘viable’…. see how that would blow over.
Don’t want to do dungeons? You don’t deserve the rewards.
/endthread
I know right? Lets eliminate one of the only reasons to run dungeons!
But I want my cool looking armor noooow!
Im trying to find a dagger skin thats deathly, but i cant find anything.
I am using the AC one, and it is cool, but it doesnt glow all the time.
Condition necro can be good in a dungeon if there are no other condition users, but still they have weak boss damage. They are great at killing trash though.
Thieves have some of the highest damage in the game, but it takes focus and some experience in dungeons to survive as a thief with their reduced HP/armor.
Necro does not bring any real support, or group healing, or buffs. All they are really brought for is damage, or maybe well of power/darkness. Power necro does pretty high damage, just not as high as thief/guardian/warrior/Hammer Ele.
I find both to be fun, neither is boring, but overall if you are skilled at dodging/evading, a thief is more useful due to higher damage/group stealth.
Hmm, so in reality.. damage is reasonably balanced? I would expect thief to deal a little more damage than other melee because of how squishy he is, like a trade off.
Maybe its not as bad as I thought, its probably just the public’s perception on the classes, and that warrior/guardian is just the ‘easy’ way to faceroll dungeons.
My original point stands though… if my necro deals the same damage as a warrior, yet the warrior brings group might, fury, swift etc, or other group cleanses/heals, why bring a necro? The utility should be balanced better…
Maybe this post was over dramatic and unwarranted, I just got fed up with two seperate pugs today that were lead by experience dungeon runners(one was ele, one was warrior), and they both had the state of mind that necro is useless and i might slow them down.
Also, I want to get the facts straight.
Ive heard now that thieves deal more damage than a warrior, which I thought was not true, I thought they were equal. Ive heard that all classes are capable of the same damage, which I dont believe but I could be wrong.
If this class discrimination is just due to warrior/guardian being easier to play, and therefore more effective, then obviously this post isnt warranted,(sometimes public perception is far from accurate). However, I believe the obvious truth is that warrior, guardian, and ele are just set up to be much more effective in a group. They bring high damage, buffs, the heavy’s have great passive survival and cooldowns, and they all have strong support. It simply isnt balanced when you compare them to the ‘lower’ tier classes like ranger, necro, etc.
The biggest problem is that Anet’s philosophy on class design is “PVP only, PVE is easy enough that everyone can do it”. And that is true to a certain extent, but when you get into all of the other little factors, such as the shiny-oriented mindset that most players have, things start to fall apart.
Personally, I’ve only encountered the whole clkittene thing once. Most of what I see is build hate and player hate, so as a whole I don’t think classes have much of an issue.
The ironic thing is, sPVP is the one that is falling apart due to viability issues.
Thank you for a helpful reply. I feel that it really does have to do with classes, in this very thread which isnt very big, there are already two examples of how certain classes are thought of as inferior.
All classes can do about the same damage. It’s a matter of what classes bring useful utilities in the situation you are going to be in.
Survivability is a factor as well is it not? Thief can dps just as good as a warrior, but he has less armor and like 65% of the warriors HP. Not to mention the warrior can heal 400+ per second, where a thief relies on striking a foe to heal for like 50 lol.
Thieves are great for blinding trash packs, and stealthing groups if they want to skip something, but is that worth bringing one over a warrior, or a guardian who can match the dps and also buff everyone around him and contribute healing at the same time?
Necros can mass spam blinds and chills, if PvE was better designed they would be pretty bloody useful.
If conditions in PvE were better overall Necros would be pretty useful…
Like, seriously.
Who are these people?I hear people say they’ve felt some form of class discrimination at one time or another on forums. But in the actual game proper, I have never had anyone say anything disparaging about my class choices. Not once. As a Ranger main. In a year.
You’re agonizing over things most normal people don’t give two actual kittens about.
Okay, even if you disregard things people say and the class discrimination(which does exist, and its not all that rare), there is still the facts on performance. Why is it allowed that Warrior can dps with the best, have the best passive survival(maybe guards are better), and also have great survival cooldowns, while ALSO have one of the best support specs. Necro cant support, it has no survival cooldowns other than a larger health pool, and its damage isnt higher than a warrior so…. yeah. That is just one example.
I agree that more balance in PvE (bring kittenty ones UP, not good ones down, though) is needed, but I do wonder where all this entitlement to “MY CLASS” comes from among GW2 players.
You are not a Necromancer in real life. Some classes will always be able to do things that others can’t. There will always be an optimal composition, and then there’s everything else. If you want to achieve optimisation, don’t feel beholden to any certain class and play what works best.
Wait, you find it odd that players choose a class and then want to play it? I don’t want to reroll to a class I don’t like.. (I usually never play the holy warrior archetype, or any plate dps).
And my point is.. this isnt really a case of the golden classes doing something better than mine… its a case of— there is literally nothing that my class is needed for in dungeons other than damage, and the golden classes do that better too! Thats what I am getting at, and I find it a little astonishing its been this way for so long.
I want torch. Could have a source of burning without going 30 deep into spite.
K
I am relatively new at running dungeons. I am only at fractal level 10. And I still need at least 9 paths to finish dungeon master.
I am just tired of how the different classes are treated, and how nothing has changed to balance it a year later. If what you mean is that Anet just doesnt care, then I guess I understand.
Sorry, but when I left the game 8 months ago, Warriors and Guardians were the only classes that were really in demand for dungeons, maybe the token Mesmer for their utility. Back then, I was told over and over on my thief or my necro, we dont need you, we need heavy dps.
I come back now, and start trying to run dungeons again and the same crap is happening… Nothing has been done to balance the classes in PvE.
Warrior still has the best dps, with the best survivability, and also has the option to play an amazing support role… Guardian still does great damage, has amazing support, and amazing survival skills. Elementalists still have amazing damage, great support, and can survive usually if the player is extra skilled, which is fine. Mesmer dps is pretty crappy still, or so I hear, but their skills make them wanted. Ok, I can deal with that, at least they have a role.
But what about the other professions? I was told today: “Necro will slow us down”
I am not condition specced, I am in full zerker gear with proper spec, runes,. etc. I feel that my damage is at least 90% of a warrior, but maybe I am wrong.
I know thieves can deal respectable damage, and thats great. But what do they bring that a warrior/guardian doesnt? Group stealth is very handy for certain dungeons, but is that enough?
Rangers are laughed at, Necros bring dps only and even that doesnt match the dps of warrior who also brings buffs and survival cooldowns, I dont know much about Engineers so I wont comment on them.
The point is, why has nothing been balanced? Why are some professions blatantly better in every catagory for PvE, for over a year now?
I just want to play my class, while contributing to my group, without being a burden to the Warriors/Guardians/Eles.
Warriors, shocking.
The main thing I dislike about 30////30 is the lack of crit. I had full exotic berserker on plus one ascended piece, and without sigil I was only at 37% crit, I couldn’t believe it…
I don’t like having to rely on food and 25 stacks to reach 50% crit. However I do like the DS build because I feel it has better range damage, and its fun being shadowy all the time =)
30/25///15 is great though, because your dagger hits like a mack truck, and there are some great traits in curses. I also have 52% crit unbuffed now I think. I prefer to take a hit in crit damage and have a higher crit chance.
I ran 6 fractals today with both builds each, and I think that DS build is more fun to play, but I definitely noticed higher dps with Spoj’s build. I was able to melee almost constantly, and when I wasnt, I could AE from a safe distance with DS4, staff, wells, etc.
Male Norns just look ridiculous. I would have made one(their racials are actually great for necro in wvw), but I can’t enjoy playing as a big stumbling bafoon.
Im not sure I am good enough to maintain melee range dps, but my current setup is dagger/horn axe/focus.
I have been using dagger auto, and when i am forced out of melee i use axe2 and life blast until i can switch back into dagger melee.
30/25///15 hadn’t occurred to me. I will give it a shot, and if I find that I fail at good melee uptime, I will probably go back to 30 SR until I get better.
Pacific time zone. I usually play between 12am to 3pm pacific, or 3am to 6pm eastern. And I sleep somewhere in there ;p But those are my open playing hours.
Hmm that is a decent option. I already have full rabid so I guess I could go 30/30///10 and swtch between berserkers.
So full power/crit is better single target than hybrid/celestial/rampagers?
Okay, and if I recall the best gear setup for the Hybrid used celestial accessories with rampager armor.
I know they changed celestial gear recently… did they nerf the stats on it or did they just take off the MF%? If they did nerf the stat spread, is it still the best for that hybrid build? Ill check out Nemesis’ thread, I wasn’t sure if it was up to date with the celestial changes/patches.
Hi, so I am making a set of gear for PvE on my necro, and I like to play with axe/dagger/focus and staff if i need to.
I was just wondering what is the highest dps for a dungeon necro…
Is it full berserker with a setup like 30/10/0/0/30 ?
Or is the 30/30/0/0/10 Hybrid dps spec superior overall.
Im taking bosses and trash into consideration. I enjoy playing either spec so Im just looking for the best performance.
I would prefer 10/30/30 or 25/15/30…
DA 15 pt isn’t as good as it used to be, rather have 30 in crits. Second option would be for straight damage increase.
Whoa, thats really nice.
I want to get a set for wvw and possibly dungeons… but I have this feeling they will be nerfed because they are obviously too good.
I see so many people saying that once you get all your ascended items you are done.
Uh, we don’t know if they will ever add another tier of gear with better stats than ascended. Considering what has happened so far, I would say that will happen.
So its either an escalator or a never ending escalator, which is worse than a treadmill honestly.
That list depends entirely on how long it takes to get the new mats.. the bloodstone dust I can verify is extremely easy to get from champ bags… the dragonite and other new mats I dont know. But as for the T6 mats and ore/wood, that will be easy!
Hah. Funny. I do sympathize, but you must understand Legendary weapons and expensive exotics are no where near the same.
Daily and monthly rewards have changed. Resetting them puts everyone on equal footing and allows everyone to get the new rewards without penalty.
Equal footing? Some players getting 20 laurels and some getting 10 is equal how?
now I feel bad for not doing my monthlies sooner, will I miss out on 10 laurels now? :/
Probably.
Even if they give back players monthly progress, they probably won’t remove 10 laurels to those who did it twice.
What a bunch of crap!
