Poor Wildstar.
…….
Best part of that graph is how bad Wildstar is doing, it makes my day.
CirranWildstar is the poster child for how the market has shifted away from WOW style business and game play.
Meh, personally I think it has a TON more to do with how Wildstar presented it’s self. It is a “hardcore” and “elitist” players paradise. Just shows when you basically call everyone who is not one of those a cupcake and needs to grow a pair, you fail badly. I do feel the game had potential but the focus needed to change when it went free to play, it didn’t it is now reaping what it has sown.
Cirran
EvE online has been going for longer than almost any other MMO at this point and has done so well they literally built a monument for the player base in Reykjavik.
Going hardcore isn’t a problem. Going hardcore and doing a poor job of it is.
So in any practical sense, as well as in any real sense, the resources in the game are finite, unless the resource is programmed specifically to be available instantaneously at any desired quantity.
Except they aren’t if you are comparing them to actual resources.
For instance, there is a finite amount of helium on earth. The resource is dwindling because it is primarily found in natural gas deposits and is no longer attainable once released into the atmosphere. Once it’s used up, it’s gone for the most part in terms of usability.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/why-the-world-is-running-out-of-helium-2059357.html
While it’s true that resource gathering in the game on the macro level is limited by the amount that can be gathered by the individual in a given time, the amount of people gathering, and the total play time they have available, these are factors that limit the amount gathered, not the amount that can ever possibly be gathered.
Increasing the amount of people logging in GW2 x1000 will just end up producing 1000 times more logs.
Doing the same with logging companies on Earth will result in no trees on the planet after a week.
The only way for a resource to ever be “over farmed” or “exhausted” is by the developers stepping in and deciding that too much is being gathered and manually reducing the supply.
There’s no automated global diminishing returns system.

NO. kittening NO. dont you dare even suggest it. People are not “super fast” in overbidding you. there are MILLIONS OF PLAYERS. its not 10 that are fast. get out
lol millions of players. Good one.
GW2 has probably never had more than around 1 million active players with the peaks likely around launch and right at HoT. The number has since diminished.
The game likely has at most 20-30 thousand concurrent players during obvious prime times. Of those, a very small portion is actively posting flip buy orders.
I still can’t believe the Honed Axes change.
Do they even know what’s wrong with this trait?
They don’t even know what’s wrong with axes.
That Protect me!!! 30 second base CD…. WOW!!
I can’t see that lasting but good to hear none the less.
Anyone know if SnR still has it’s huge cooldown?
Sad to see anet cater to the noobs complaining. The counter to this banner was having a working brain.
Banners are frequently hard to see. With Turtle Banners noobs has nothing to do with it. As for Dragon the darn thing hits like a truck and in the middle of a big fight with graphics overload it can be easy to miss until it drops a nuke on players.
Working brain not detected.
Need for OP crutch detected.
If WvW is so kitten clogged with “noobs” as you guys say it is then you shouldn’t need such a tool to win. The only people who want this easy mode crap to stick around those who can’t fight without it.
And if you’re salty about zerg fights then go play spvp. WvW is for big fights. That’s it’s whole point.
The whole point to hawk/eagle is being able to spam the F2 for rapid application of the trait effects.
It’s also pretty powerful to use the f2 right at the end of a basic attack to have the pet effectively double attack.
Swapping out a good utility f2 for one that is rather terrible makes little sense.
They should just get rid of the quickening screech and replace it with another skill altogether or at the very least change it’s animation or make it an instant cast, shout-like, skill.
If revenue isn’t to the liking of the parent company they can at their discretion, fire everyone and re-staff, including the chairman unless protection against termination is claused into his agreement (something I had included in a contact once). Anet hasn’t controlled it’s own destiny since before launch of GW1.
Have you seen the contract/s that was signed when Anet went self publishing? Do you know this for a fact?
All we know is that Anet is self publishing aka responsible for effectively the entirely of their operations as a company and that NCsoft retains the rights to the ArenaNet and Guild Wars brands.
All the precise details between the companies is likely somewhere in some SEC style documentation over in Korea, in Korean, if it exists at all for the public.
While bad GW2 performance would look bad on NCsoft, we have no idea to what extent they can affect change on ArenaNet to offset it.
When they say WvW is a priority I am sure they are referencing current development efforts. I believe them when they say they have been working on a big WvW overhaul.
I find it impossible to believe that they are taking WvW seriously but somehow think that making people wait months just to beta test changes is going to do any good.
It simply doesn’t follow logic. They also wouldn’t be so hush hush when it’s abundantly obvious that the patient is bleeding out on the operating table. Hype has done them wonders in the past and is all they have left to keep people here and waiting.
By the time they reveal the actual details of this overhaul, it won’t matter. It won’t matter because no one will care. No one will care because no one will be around to care. Too many will have moved on to other games and those that stick around will probably just resign to EotM rather than deal with WvW2.0 with new wonky team systems, a decimated playerbase, and the same crappy rewards on maps made for a population that is no longer there.
Anyone “prioritizing WvW” is going to be fully aware of this.
Time to download BnS and see how entertaining it is.

Not like it just came out or anything.
Camelot Unchained baby. If you haven’t blown this popsicle stand by then, you will once your friends tell you about it.
Blow this popsicle stand for an MMO that has stated it will be going the monthly subscription route ?
LOL… I don’t blame anyone deciding to jump ship if they’ve had enough (game mode is indeed in it’s death throes), but hell if I’m going back to that obsolete format.
Its not obsolete in fact I think it may make a comeback given the drawbacks of f2p and b2p games. Regardless of that there is also Crowfall which will be b2p.
F2P games have had years to show how to not do the platform correctly and many people are sick of micro-transactions in games in general. The whales that love them aren’t enough to build a community out of and the people that don’t mind tend to not stick around for a long time anyway. They CC their way to rewards and then leave once they run out of things to do thanks to all the short cuts.
Being able to present a game that has a base fee and no nickle and dime’ing is going to be very appealing to people who have seen how terrible f2p/b2p actually is most cases.
Pretty much no one who has been around the block still thinks a F2P game is going to offer a substantial game play experience for less per month than any sub game. The few that do tend to require one to either no life the game or treat it like a stock market simulator. The people who play casually for the fantasy adventure are the ones left holding the bill.
Except it doesn’t. I frequently take 1-2k damage hits per missile in WvW.
Ya that happens when you apparently run base toughness. Shocking as it may be.
Guys Ncsoft have nothing to do with GW2 anymore and for like a long time now.
Except you know owning Arenanet.
Anet has been self publishing since roughly September. Short of owning the IP, NCsoft likely has little influence in Anet as a company.
Whether this is because NCsoft thinks Anet doesn’t need their money and can put it toward other projects or have just abandoned GW2 is up to interpretation since neither will comment on it I’m sure.
Are the wvw tournaments officially ended for good? I kinda liked those skins..
There will be none until the new format launches. Given that the new format not not be here for another 9 months and WvW is unlikely to last that long. I’d say it’s very possible that the tournaments are done and over with.
Nice one. This is a huge QOL increase for 700 gems. If you have copper-fed salvage that is. 500 would prolly be a better price but 700 is acceptable.
Permanent bank access looks more enticing now.
If you are in a guild with a guild hall you can just press “G” and go to the guild hall. At the scribe station you can also access the bank.
Why even go that far? WvW is a ghost town nowadays. Just press B and go to your borderlands for TP, Bank, and every crafting station. The only thing missing is a vendor for cooking ingredients for whatever reason.
I don’t understand why ANET doesn’t just return the alpine map for now. When the larger WvW overhaul is ready, then revisit the new map and see if it makes sense.
When have you ever known Anet to admit and back peddle on a mistake aside from the Flamekissed armor debacle?
It would also invalidate what was obviously a huge amount of time and resources to create the map. A map of that scope and detail is a huge endeavor even if it was ultimately kind of a flop at what it was supposed to do.
Anet isn’t going to throw all that in the trash, nor are they going to invest a big chunk of money/time revamping the map either. It’s here to stay and as it is for the most part. Better to spend time asking for new and better rewards as those actually have a chance of showing up at some point though it will probably be 2017 before any hint of plans for the idea of a WvW legendary backpack are made known.
For those who are unable to melee with it now. The root is what you blame for your mistakes.
Make a Marauders build using the 1h sword as your primary dps source, film it working because “skillz”, and then prove everyone wrong.
The leaps absolutely do prevent dodges during movement frames. Sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting “L2P!” over and over won’t change facts.
Funny how some claim that this weapon is so unusable because you cant dodge yet, people use it in condi builds for the evade.
That’s some Grade A intellectual dishonesty there.
We all know what the sword is used for in a condi build and it is not using the auto attack as a source of damage which is what prevents dodging during parts of the chain.
This is the issue.
It is a fact.
No one cares that a condi build that only uses sword for 2&3 works because it makes sparse use of 1.
Changing 1 to not be kitten wouldn’t negatively affect the build.
Condi Ranger is currently just as mediocre as any other vanilla build, and wasn’t even top tier stuff before the xpac so I’m not sure what people are even defending.
This changes everything.
I’ve gotten gold in every single meta event I’ve ever been in since Druid dropped just from auto attack spam on staff while healing allies. Heals which, by the way, are largely unnecessary in the first place. Either events are easy enough that your heals don’t matter or the damage is so much that you can’t heal through it on enough people (Tequatal).
You can’t even heal spam without attacking on a regular basis and pet damage counts toward event participation. You would have had to basically sit around spamming WHaO regen and kept the pet on passive to not get gold before.
Why anyone would choose to play that way in the first place is beyond me though.
Why is it that this community is up in arms over “grinding” things like elite specializations and mastery xp, but when you have an actual “do this a thousand times to get this item” it’s suddenly okay?
I’m pretty sure the people who were okay with one kind were okay with the other. Both camps are filled with the kind of folks who have nothing better to do than repetitively slog through the same thing for days on end.
To play devil’s advocate though, the HoT grinding was not only Anet’s attempt at content padding, it also gave the game a sense of progression again. Sure, most of it wasn’t making you that much more powerful but it was the kind of stuff that most are used to having to build up to.
LOL your statement hardly make any point when Wildstar relaunches itself without any significant changes to gameplay and contents while GW2 went F2P and Anet simply sell HoT expansion and attracts F2P players that like the core game to buy it.
You have 0 understanding of game design if you think they couldn’t make it a good game because the art team was too focused on T&A.
Oooh so BnS has good design? Tell me a fresh design of the gameplay that BnS has over Guild Wars 2 which make it a good game, since you seems to call yourself a person that understand game design.
1. Doesn’t change the fact that GW2 went F2P to try and draw in more players in the same way.
2. Design is about game mechanics and how well it plays, not how it looks or what characters are wearing. No one cares if you’re offended by boobs. That has nothing to do with how well the game plays. Sorry that you can’t seem to tell the difference between art style and game play.
Remember when people said WildStar will destroy Guild Wars 2?
Now it’s begging for new players by going F2P.
Ya, GW2 would NEVER do that.
Oh, wait…
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/play-for-free-today/
Remember when people said BnS will destroy Guild Wars 2?
You mean the game that focused too much on female character to beg for dudes to play so that they get hard on their female characters?
You have 0 understanding of game design if you think they couldn’t make it a good game because the art team was too focused on T&A.
Its a mmorporno. Its not even on scale with runescape! How can something like that compare to Gw2?
Soooo the game is terrible mechanically because there are tiddies in it?
You should send a resume into Kotaku/Polygon. Your reasoning skills would fit right in.
Hey guys is it lack of sleep or did I just see that we only need 5k drinks instead of 10k now?
That’s only T4 of 5.
Might want to get some feedback on your big overhaul before you work too much into it and it becomes too late to change in the end. ::cough:: new bls ::cough::
Pretty sure they got plenty of feedback. It just went into the refuse bin where they deposit most WvW based feedback.
Does ‘throughout the year’ mean that at the end of the year, the achievement will close, or is it more of an ‘all year every year’ kind of deal? These are very different scenarios.
The real question you should be asking is if the gifts will even drop booze when the next holiday comes around or at the rate they do now.
It’s not going to matter much if they get their tables changed to drop the new widget that we need 40 stacks of for the Wintersday 2016 item and booze gets nocked back to ~1:10.
Can we get a open all option for when we have stacks of 250 wintersday gift boxes to deal with? I farm like 750 or so per session with the JP and sitting there for 15 mins opening them is a chore, no one should have to do that when we need well over 10,000 boxes for the drinks alone.
You can use mouse keys to set a key to double click. I just set my number pad + to double click and can blast through a stack of items in a few seconds.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/use-mouse-keys-to-move-the-mouse-pointer.
I find it easier than using any kind of mouse wheel roll setup and can turn it on and off on the fly without having to ever tab out of the game.
They should have made more achievements than required for the meta. Less stress, and more fun. That makes happy customers. And you don’t have to make the achievements super easy. You can just make them possible to get during the meta..
It should have been ~1000 drinks and 10-20 completions of each activity.
As it stands, you basically do the activities 3 times each and then get the monolith drinking one done with whatever activity nets you the most gold the fastest since earning the drinks directly through casual play is a glacial pace endeavor if you don’t enjoy grinding the hell out of the jumping puzzle.
It’s like they literally couldn’t help themselves and just had to sneak in one requirement that would guarantee them RMT income.
I personally feel that the entire event and rewards are just designed to be a time sink, karma sink and gold sink… not as a truly fun year end event for players…
Well, I mean, they are meant to be that. I wouldn’t doubt they have some plans for karma in the future and this whole “festival” was meant to hoover up as much of it as possible to ensure people don’t invalidate the cost of the planned content.
This is pretty much the future of GW2. The days of content like the early festivals where rewards were reasonable to get and updates that were there to simple be fun and a reason to log on and play and not be thinly veiled material/currency vacuums is over.
Imagine needing vial of liquid of flame for Mad Memories or 250 Charged Lodestones for the Holographic Shattered Dragon wings…

Once you do all the other non-unlimited achieves, the only ones left for the 18th slot are either the drink or candy cane achievement.
I’m at 16/18 and the only ones left on my list that aren’t the infinite ones are drink, candy, and 500 musical notes.
Edit: I just noticed I have 17 but it only lists 16. The Grawnk one was auto filled as I had the tree already. I’m not sure if it’s not supposed to count or if this is a glitch but it isn’t right now.
I have 18 and neither candy nor booze completed.
Ya, like I said. I’m not sure if the Grawnk one is glitched but I have 16/18 with only the two food and the 500 bells ones left. It’s conceivable that others will also have this as well. It could be another but the Grawnk one auto filled for me since I obviously can’t do it twice so it’s the one I suspect the most.
Why this is not documented?
NOTHING is documented, officially. Even the Wiki player-produced, not documentation from ANet.
…Wut?
I also checked. I cannot get the Wintersday Meta without 10k drinks and 2,500 candy canes. This is unacceptable!! You are making it literally impossible for me to get this Meta in the time period it is active. I don’t have gold to buy what I need. I have to earn it. So what do you expect me to do? I’m literally incapable of finishing a Wintersday Meta for the first time ever.
What can’t you do? The Jumping puzzle and.. ?

I noticed this around early Dec. It feels like they lowered the amount or it’s somehow bugged to adjust certain damage differently.
Using a melee pet on a Champion Chak is almost certainly going to lead to a pet swap or death even when it never targets them.
It’s no different than being forced to run dungeons for dungeon armor.
Dungeon gear tracks have been a thing for a while now in pvp and you have been able to obtain the skins in pvp since the launch of the game.
That means it is really rare
kittenting on rangers is like a national pastime for WvW. It is by no means “rare”.
Did I say it was rangers?
Feel free to actually list what the classes were then because I find it very hard to believe it was any other class than ranger.
That means it is really rare

How the hell do you kick someone out of a zerg? And worse, what kind of shortsighted brain-lock is going on kicking a Ranger you know is working on the Druid you want?!? That’s textbook cutting off your nose to spite your face. You KNOW he’s gotta go through the process and you crap on him for doing it? Brilliant!!
You grossly underestimate the cancerous bias toward rangers in WvW.
Plenty of them felt like garbage when first seen- matter of overcompensating?
I feel like someone realized that few pvpers were preordering so they came up with the most direct way to make sure 100% of them bought HoT and that purchasing was essentially needed for any free players who wanted to get into pvp at all.
maybe if you split up that kittening blob and try to do some decent fights you’ll learn to avoid skills like CoR, but yeah, it’s better to cry and call for nerf
People come to wvw for big fights.
Go to spvp if you want small scale pointless fights over nothing.
lol if you really want some fun with staff 3, eat enough strawberry ghosts to get the effect and you will see your toon just run really fast rather then turn into a wisp.
Legendaries ARE the end game.
To me legendaries are the g’dam-I-‘m-bored-let’s-sink-a-bajillion-mats-out-of the-game content, not the end game.
100% with Nike here. People that think that Legendaries are the end-game content in GW2 are the ones that are LEAST satisfied with the game. HOW many people have Twilight?
What is end-game in GW2? Honestly, it just totally depends on what you’re going for:
1) Skins
2) Achievements
3) Story
4) WvW
5) PvPPersonally, my goal is super long-term…and includes but is not limited to the full sets of armor/weapon skins for these two:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hellfire_armor
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fused_weapon_skins
Legendaries could be considered the end game but require so much playing of the actual game that neglecting core content just to make more will only hurt the game in the long run.
Having 30-40 options means nothing if you have to slog through the same old content every time.
We don’t need to weird ‘kitten’ of games like Tera or Blade and Soul… but some regular pants, shorts, bikinis paired with shirts, halter tops, or even bikini tops… for variety… might be very nice.
This game could definitly use some weird ‘kitten’ from Tera. You can count on one hand the amount of sexy male armor in the game where as Tera is practically an even ratio on Elves and Castanics even though people act like only the women are dressed provocatively.
Which is a shame, since the day Anet releases these into the gemstore is the day Anet makes a million dollars.
If they ever release bathing suits as armor, you can bet the medium armor will have an ankle length coat and the light armor will have a buttcape.
Don’t forget gigantic NFL shoulderpads.
Any fun names for Tequatl? I’ve heard Taquito, because cheap like 7-11. Uhhhh…Taco keep em’ coming.
I call him Tequila
Tequila Sunrise
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tequila_Sunrise_%28kittentail%29
Which is a shame, since the day Anet releases these into the gemstore is the day Anet makes a million dollars.
I’m still waiting for a holiday Kasmeer to go with the sparkle farting Lord Faren…
Yay, no skin off my nose let those who want it have it. I’ll never so much as click a link for it but some players enjoy it no reason they shouldn’t have the option to play their way.
So you think its ok to spend 200.000$ on a handful of players
Instead of using it to develop something 99% of the rest of game want like dungeons ?
A good chunk of that was likely covered by the partner companies.
Granted, it wasn’t all of it as Nvidia would be fools to spend a huge amount sponsoring an event that is catered to people who already use their products, but it was probably a fair amount none the less.
lol remember when people thought 8k Ranger RF pew pew was over the top?
Good times…
read the post again: it was badly borked up — they couldn’t do anything substantive and eventually, they had to leave.
That doesn’t actually really mean anything concerning the viability of a current day Box though.
It could have easily been a hotmess simply because they haven’t included elements of the box in patched files whenever they updated the game and there have been a LOT of patches since the box closed. We’ve all seen how intermingled GW2’s code is by now and failing to ensure that the Box’s code was also up to snuff will build up over time.
This is why the devs post things much more on reddit rather than this forum…
You guys just CANT stop complaining for everything. EVERY single thing.
The ranger class is in better spot now than what it ever was since the beginning of the game 3 years ago. MUCH better. It’s a viable and much desirable class in all 3 game modes.
PS: AF generation is not broken. You just don’t like it so you call it broken. Broken was to stand in front of 5 afk people, click #6 and get full AF in the next 3 secs.
PS2: You don’t have to “keep on losing a utility slot”, where did you get that?
PS3: You don’t have to take beastmastery. In fact beastmastery is only mandatory in the PvP cele druid build. Raid druids don’t even touch it.
I knew from the second I finished reading this that someone’s retort would be “oh you’re just a fanboy.” It’s like you can’t even bring up any reasoning in A-net’s defense without being invalidated through name-calling.
Sad.
What reasoning was brought up beyond “you crybabies are the reason they never talk to us here”?
Ya know, the same fallacious argument that people have used to excuse poor communication for years now.
