It doesn’t look good for Anet if the guild they gave privileged access to is trolling the community on release day.

No probably not but would have thought the mature reaction would be to talk to the guild behind closed doors. It doesn’t look like they broke the NDA or anything.

The rest of us know nothing about the terms of the NDA. They very well could have been in violation of it with what they did.

They didn’t do anything to break any NDA.

They simply took every opportunity to make Anet look bad by presenting the new raid content as much easier than it is in reality.

A raid that is beaten in “15 minutes” on day one is a joke. That’s not respectable by anyone who does raids in other games and sounds too easy even to people who don’t.

It also looks incredibly kittenty to also claim that others are “salty” that they beat it first when they had a massive handicap given to them. That’s childish and clearly not something Anet wants to be associated with.

Is this a bug or a buff?

No clue until a dev comments on it or it gets patched out.

I’m going to lean toward a bug but Anet has been pretty bad about documenting patch changes lately so it could go either way.

Nice to have Dev respond to this change so we don’t get our hopes to high and have them crushed.

inb4 “Whoops sorry guys, that’s totally not supposed to be happening. We’ll hotfix this right away for you.”

We’ll see. The Regen change is strong, but then regen is a boon and subject to boon mechanics. Mesmers, Necros, and revenants are all fairly proficient at boon counterplay.

True but we didn’t have that much trouble generating while in combat before anyway.

We also spam regen much faster than anything can strip it outside of a S/D thief and the signet and trait regen can’t be removed at all.

Pets will now only be stowed when gliding once you leave combat.

I foresee many dead pets in future raid content where bosses turn floors and platforms into grounds of instant death as we glide away and cannot stow them because we are in combat.

Great change and another +1 for kittening us over unless those moves are made so they won’t reduce our pets into ashes.

Agreed , have not logged online yet but this simply takes the Mick .

Its a really bad change .

As long as pets still have the damage reduction in pve it probably wont do much to them unless it’s either ~1,000,000 damage or pulses.

I don’t get this. Did anything really change? As I remember, the auto attack didn’t have a beam when there was no target. No beam no heal, right?

Earlier, without a target, the auto had visuals but no effect, now it has no visuals and no effect. As I see it this is a “no smoke without fire” kinda thing.

Or was there some weird way you could use beam without a target before?

It would be nice to have a beam without a target tho…

You could still use it though it was harder to aim the beam so you would need to be pretty close to, almost clipping into, a target to use it.

precursor collection is a ripoff

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Substance E.4852

The point of the system is to give you an alternative to farming gold to get the precursor. You aren’t supposed to just buy all the items off the TP.

Way to miss the purpose entirely.

And as far as the cost goes, HoT just launched. Everyone is trying out the new system causing the price of things to go up with demand which is why precursor prices are falling because less people are just buying a completed one.

The point of the changes was to give an option of bypassing the trading post and RNG entirely. Anyone who thought this would be easy or a short method was kidding themselves.

This has probably been said a few times, but the thread wasn’t about making the acquisition easy. It’s about the sheer time/cost it takes to put everything together.

It’s completely easy to gather materials. It’s very, very easy. Almost stupidly so. But it also takes absolutely forever. Instead of an epic journey, we get a repetitive slog around the same maps 2000+ times each, pressing (F?) to hit rocks and trees and plants. So instead of adding something fun and interesting, the precursor collection method is just a time/money sink. And it didn’t need to take three years for Anet to come up with it, either – it would take one programmer about ten minutes to come up with a material collection tree.

And apart from a skin, a precursor – or even a legendary, really – adds extraordinarily little to the game.

lol after seeing a bit more of what is involved with the process I’ve come to the same conclusion that a lot of others did and now just think this was a kitten material sink Anet put in because they have no idea how to deal with the amount of mats in the system.

Remove Charged Quartz Crystal gating

Nice catch you two. I can see why it’s a bit gated now, though it still makes me wish they could ease up on it a bit. Finished Day 11/40 on my quest to get a full set of Celestial Gear for my Tempest due to this gating.

Another side effect of the gating is that daily quartz crystal consumption is limited, otherwise you would use up 4 stacks of quartz on day one to get your charged ones.
Quartz already went up 2s again since HoT launched.

If you want tocircumnavigate the timegate, you can buy trick or treat bags by the thousands, they occiasionally give the charged quartz, and sell the other items you get from them. If you get the bags on buy order and sell the mats as lowest listing, you shouldnt make too much loss.

the problem is, the quartz doesn’t NEED gating, you can only get 22 crystals a day (37 if you are the literal embodiment of fortune itself and manage to get the bonus 15 in your home instance),it’s an incredibly limited resource in comparison to everything else.

Except that quartz can be traded on the TP. So there goes that limitation out the window.

As is one can easily farm 100 gold in 2-4 hours without trading post flipping or other fancy stuff. Just sell your loot on the trading post, done.

Wow!

Please let me in on that, to make 100 gold in 2-4 hours, please! As an avid Silver Wastes farmer, chest runs as well as events, I don’t make anywhere near that amount, and I do sell that loot. I’m serious, I really would like to know. I do tend to salvage blues and greens, maybe that’s something I shouldn’t do?

You must have missed the:

- Flax hype
- ToT bag hype and general Halloween farm
- Potatoe hype for 1-2 days
- Ley-Line Infused Tool hype
- Pile of Coarse Sand hype

Just to name a few. To bad, had you done more than just farm silver wastes in the past 2 weeks, you might have noticed these extreme price hikes and adjusted accordingly. I’m sure you also refered to silver wastes farming pre HoT, since then it already was around 10-15 gold per hour, the Pile of Coarse Sand insanity just added a couple of gold more per hour.

ToT labyrinth took nearly an hour just to get a single stack of bags. While it was decent money, it was no where near the 100g an hour mark.

I’m none so sure about the flax hype either. GW2TP shows flax reached a peak at about 48 silver each. Very respectable, but to get 100 golds worth of flax in one hour requires 208 flax at those prices. The flax farm gives around 12 per char, so you’d either need numerous level 80s (about 17) which not everyone has, or to get more flax around the map. It might be theoretically possible to get over 200 in one hour while going through the map, but somewhat unlikely.

I never mentioned having to stick with only 1 farm. Also if we are getting this technical, let’s do the actual math on how long it takes to farm flax and gold gained. How much does gathering for 1.5 minutes gaining you 0.84 – 5.76 gold (average of 12 flax times 7-48 silver) come out as? (cough 33.6-230.4 gold per hour cough)

The farm can only be harvested once per day. Even at it’s height, 6 character’s harvesting the farm would only net you about 35g. The rest of the flax would need to be harvested at map nodes across the maguuma.

See futher replies.

Obviously some people in this thread are trolling hard. Done here, I’ve made my point.

Just to reiterate:

- scarcity creates value. time getting creates scarcity
- if you want to circumvent some of the time gates, you can opt to pay more on the TP
- getting by gold is not an issue in GW2 if you don’t burn through it the moment it enters your wallet

No one is “trolling”, you just keep moving the goal posts trying to pass off hardcore resource farming as “easy to acquire” gold.

If one is going to spend that much time harvesting and dedication watching forums for market spikes they might as well get into hardcore trading and never leave the city of their choice as it’s a much better use of their time and energy.

Only problem us canach is not a warrior, he is an unknown class. I agree they should have put the specs into the story, but doing each member of destiny’s edge 2 gets their elite spec would have been just as lame and childish as not putting them in.

I don’t mean make it a 1 person per chapter/instance thing necessarily. It could even be more organic like there’s a part of the story where we need to commune with the druids to proceed or get some vital information and Rox ends up the being the one to get their attention and receives some kind of blessing that is needed to proceed and becomes part of her combat routine. Marjory and Brahm already are half way there and could have progressed a little per chapter as they work on their training with weapons that they previously had no experience with.

As far as Canach goes, I had assumed he was an engineer with all the bombs etc but he’s using a sword and shield in HoT and distinctly uses the skill Shield Bash. He may be technically unclassed, but Warrior makes the most sense and is the only one that no longer has a person using it if we assume Taimi to be the equivalent of an engineer.

If one is not spamming #1 on sword, then we are literally talking about fractions of a second where you are locked into the animation. I have personally never had an issue during those fractions of a second; I would love to see someone post an actual vid of why the sticky nature of the sword is a hindrance.

So if one isn’t using the auto-attack as intended then there’s no problem?

And frankly, if fractions of a second didn’t matter, then why are the sword 2 and 3 only a fraction of a second long evades? Surely that isn’t enough time to make a difference…

So ALL AA’s are just mindless spam? I don’t consider that fun.

I still want to see where the chain is actually causing an issue, as I have never personally had one, and use the sword a lot. I can’t tell you how many times the leap / chasedown functionality has helped though.

Yes, all auto’s are mindless spam. They are autos specifically because you aren’t supposed to have to think about them.

Whether or not you consider that “fun” is irrelevant.

I’m just going to assume you are being intentionally dishonest at this point because it’s a very easy thing to test by auto attacking the invuln golem while holding the strafe button and see that you will not be able to continuously move in a circle while attacking at the auto rate. “Using the sword a lot” would make this self evident to anyone.

Opinions on whether said glue is impeding aside, claiming it isn’t there at all is absurd.

The absolute biggest ball they dropped is not incorporating the specializations into the story.

Thats big but I would say the actual story being so rushed and poorly done is the biggest issue.

True, but padding it out with forays into what the characters were going through would have made it much longer feeling.

I did the story after the nerf to the poison mastery so I never needed to chill in the jungle before getting to Mord and the whole thing did very much feel like you just walk up to it and kill it.

What they did for Taimi in Rata Novis could have been done for every character and it would have made the journey feel longer and more in depth in my opinion. Having each character grow and develop new skills that help you push further and further into Mord’s domain would have made sense and been better pacing.

The one thing that Zaihtan did much better than Mordremoth was it felt like a real struggle to get to Z to kill him. Unless you do the Tangled Depths (lol, I know) and the Dragon Stand meta’s you miss out on a lot of fighting and struggle, maing the journey feel rather easy given that the Dragon wiped out most of the Pact in and instant just prior.

The absolute biggest ball they dropped is not incorporating the specializations into the story.

The worst part is that they were setting up so many plot points that could have made it work.

Brahm picks up Eir’s bow. Marjory specifically talks about training to use a great sword. Taimi needs to build a new golem. Canach grows as a person overall and learning to focus his anger could lead into Berserker.

None of it is addressed at all. The only plot that references any of the new HoT class mechanics is Rytlock and his take on the Revenant is his typical crummy “lol, I’m so anti-social. I’m not going to talk about it” he has on everything that makes me think Anet will leave it at that and nothing more.

I’m really hoping that Rox get’s the entirety of LS3 to herself because she is the most wooden, 1 dimensional character in the story and desperately needs something more to her and much better voice direction as well.

There is a problem in that daggers have a shorter range and only cleave 2 targets.

You’re thinking of thieves’ daggers. Weapons themselves have no range or cleave ability. Look at ele daggers or mesmer GS. You could make ranger daggers be 5100 range and cleave 15 targets.

Thief and Necromancer daggers both have this property, and they both use physical attacks, rather than “magical” like Elementalist’s daggers or Mesmer’s greatsword. Maxmum weapon range is also based off average weapon length, and you can bet there would be plenty of complaints if Ranger daggers were hitting at Sword range with no visual indicators. While ArenaNet could make Ranger daggers statistically identical to Ranger sword, there is no precedent for this, and this would remove daggers from the Ranger’s potential weapon pool without adding anything new to the class.

Daggers on the Necro and Thief have the standard 130 range of melee attacks and only cleaving on 2 targets rather than 3 is not that big of a deal considering Kick on the ranger sword doesn’t cleave at all.

Both the thief and necro daggers were also balanced with the idea that they only hit 1 target. Letting them hit 2 without a damage nerf was generous.
Considering a theoretical Ranger dagger would already hit for low damage, it’s not unreasonable for it to fully cleave.

If you mean sword range as in the 300 range on kick and pounce then good, the point is to not have an auto that hits at that range because that’s what causes the glue problem.

130 is the range required to hit a target at “arm’s length” for characters. Any more and you are locked into a movement script.

There’s plenty of ways to interrupt your auto-chain, such as using your skill 3, dodging out, or other moves.

You can not interrupt a movement skill by any other means than weapon swapping. That is the issue.

Really how hard is it to take your camps waypoint then take a Wallow to your camps Lane ?

If you don’t have wallows unlocked, the map is incredibly confusing to hoof it around for the first week or so.

It doesn’t help that the mini map is basically useless for determining the layout of the various depths since they gradually meld into one another rather than using direct elevators like the canopy in VB does.

The only one that is clear is the underground river and there’s nothing down there anyway except for a few mussels nodes.

>>>3 months ago<<< i had 76 silver, played a lot of sw and the lab at the recent halloween festival (that even got me 5 free 20 slot bags lol), now i’m sitting on over 600g – more listed on the tp and all this just by playing and a bit of crafting here and there.

Not paid out a single penny of my own money to ‘get’ gold either, best thing is just play the game, gather as you run around maps.

I have one account and two characters, only one of those is a level 80 too. i have my own guild with 50 storage Oo, i dont get how your NOT making gold in game, it is everywhere lol.

…….or you can post on the forum, its completely up to you shrug

Found the problem in your argument. Silverwaste’s gold output has been nerfed recently.

So your condescending post just makes you look ignorant.

In other news. Buying gems and converting them to gold is a reliable way of obtaining gold in this F2P game!

I went from ~150 to over 400 in about 2 weeks from just doing labyrinth a few times and selling HoT loot.

Flax was selling for 40s at launch and is everywhere in VB (and every other HoT map for that matter)

Hell, I made ~30g flipping one of the casual fractal chests after changing my mind without ever even having the intention to do so.

While I do dislike how much the game has turned into “Trade Wars 2”, it is no where near as “hard” to make money as people claim or think it is.

Now compare to ranger sword, where FrouFrou was reported for cheating because she used it to evade a warrior and guardian to the point of them “taking action”.

And that’s my point. If you are using it to spam evades it’s great but it’s also because you aren’t using it to actually deal damage pressure.

It’s impossible to do both.

You’re either using some kind of BM build or a condition build.

The second you try to use it on a power build it becomes a massive liability because all the damage is on the auto attack. The only other hard hitting skills on the sword kit is Path of Scars which is a crapshoot unless you use it at max range to minimize the time between the throw hit and return hit.

I agree that it’s a great troll evasion weapon which obviously is perfect for our condition/BM builds.

The issue arises when you attempt to use it as the highest power dps weapon that it is and get punished for it. If we had a viable alternative then it wouldn’t be a problem but the GS is also a largely defensive weapon and any requests for it to become our melee DPS weapon get drowned out by people shouting on about how it’s for defense/utility.

It’s also a much better comparison to hold it up to the thief sword as both cripple on auto and both prioritize evasion/repositioning rather than hard damage.

Also, I’m not sure I have all the necessary masteries.

It looks like the mastery will really help mobility in the Mouth of Mordremoth fight. The islands have ley lines connecting them so you can (I believe, I don’t have the mastery yet) zip straight between them instead of having to circle around to updrafts.

You can. It looks like it’s both faster and more reliable than using the updrafts though obviously not completely necessary.

I love how nearly every phishing attempt has at least one obvious grammatical or spelling error.

This particular one would make an English teacher’s head explode.

Dragon Stand Toxic Chat (Heart of Thorns)

Generally people don’t change if you tell them nicely. They will only act when they are emotionally involved.

Calling you out on being bad is TEACHING you how to be a better player. So instead of being the victim and playing dumb you should own up to mistakes and just accept that someone else may know more than you do.

Is it a nice way of teaching? No. Are there other ways to help people? Of course! But to really help someone would be time consuming and you don’t even know if they care about your opinions. However when you start attacking someone they will immediately focus their attention and read intently. Now how much is filtered because of anger we don’t know but surely some of the ‘mean advice’ must seep through even if they don’t admit it.

Just saying “You are bad” isn’t teaching.

Which is why that isn’t usually what is said first.

Most any time I have ever seen a map descend into a flame fest is when people were first told what they were doing wrong (possibly rudely but still instruction none the less) but then just ignored it like the map chat was in a foreign language.

The worst and most common is people who die at an event but then refuse to respawn despite multiple chat messages telling people to release and run back. They just lay on the ground knowing full well (because people are telling them) that it scales the event because they don’t want to have to run back. Never mind the event not being one that you can afford to sit still in and massage someone back to life.

It’s pretty clear where people stand on this and we’ve gotten our points across.
I think that people can learn by being called out AND being talked to respectfully.
You guys respectfully disagree =)

That is true

and i will concede, that people learn in different ways, im sure some people do learn by being called out in such a manner!

I and it looks the OP are just not among them

The biggest problem is people are making the false assumption that there is never a prior attempt at civil instruction before the flaming starts.

This is often not the case and most of the rage happens because people specifically had the event explained or had someone tell them what they are doing wrong and then went and completely bungled things up.

Fixing Ranger Sword should be a Priority

If one is not spamming #1 on sword, then we are literally talking about fractions of a second where you are locked into the animation. I have personally never had an issue during those fractions of a second; I would love to see someone post an actual vid of why the sticky nature of the sword is a hindrance.

So if one isn’t using the auto-attack as intended then there’s no problem?

And frankly, if fractions of a second didn’t matter, then why are the sword 2 and 3 only a fraction of a second long evades? Surely that isn’t enough time to make a difference…

Why not just add a toggle like they did for the gloves. Seems pretty lame to put something in that people really want with a stupidly low drop rate that doesn’t really do anything game changing. You have a look in mind and you want these… Good luck? :c

It’s pretty simple really.

1. It keeps people on the HoT maps to find them.
2. The ultra rarity of the item encourages people to RMT to be able to purchase them on the TP.

I’d imagine if they could go back in time, Anet would absolutely have done the same thing with shoulders and gloves.

How are people beating Tangled Depths Meta?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Substance E.4852

i gather that even the big organised boss-beating guilds have/had some trouble with it. As of right now i’m tempted to say it’s unpuggable.

You are never going to get enough pugs to care to attempt it if all that is at the end of the stick is just another rev blindfold and a backpack that most won’t ever want or use.

Guess this proves how little people will play for the challenge alone.

It offers a full reward chest + access to a mastery point strongbox and a whole mess of chak caches (from the video of a EU guild beating it)

That’s arguably more than Tarir does.

Edit: i want to say that the confusing nature of the map & the meta itself, coupled with the difficulty and unclear objectives, mean that most people feel their time is spent better elsewhere, and honestly i can’t criticise them. the meta is very punishing – a huge dps check on four separate bosses, interspersed by a mess of unrelated events with not-very-clear objectives, and if any single event fails, in any lane, the entire show is over.

No one of these things is necessarily bad in itself, but all taken together they just make for too punishing an event for open world content.

I didn’t know it had a treasure room but that would make sense.

I would still argue that isn’t enough to make people bother. There are a load of caches across the map unlike Auric Basin which requires the event to access.

It seems the only common drop of real value is the sparks and you can just wander the map to find them.

Questions about druid in wvw

Unless you have at least 1 guardian in your party at all times, no stability = GG bro.

You should also always have GotL slotted.
The bomb in a zerg is what wins fights and 15% extra damage is nothing to scoff at. The other two simply don’t affect enough enemies to be worth it.

The extra damage also helps finish off keep lords faster which has helped a lot with the new buffed lords. The SMC lord takes forever to kill now.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQNBmYDbkQFqYxOWwlF4axCjgB/UvqZVmw13KA0EB2AhgTWRDWB-w

These are the skills/traits I use and have seen some good success with. I’ve found that it’s better to build for maximum survivability rather than focusing on outgoing heals.

A druid will only be needed when the fight is going poorly and that is the exact time you need to be worrying about staying alive yourself and being able to shadow the commander as they get heal priority over anyone else but will also be the focus of most of the enemy damage.

This are ranger pets [PETS TEST 2]

in Ranger

Substance E.4852

Watching this Wyvern trying to kill the moving target is a pain, I really feel sorry. I will definitely swap it for my good ol’ jaguar. The bristleback looks good though.

Also, as a PvE player enemies usually don’t move that much, so it’s a not as much of a problem.

The Wyverns are actually very good in HoT content as they cleave and both of their F2s are really solid.

Where they fail hard is solo play where the enemy targets you over the pet (which almost always happens in lvl80 areas) and you have to keep kiting to avoid the 5k+ HoT attacks.

You are running in circles and the enemy is chasing you, all the while your Wyvern is flopping around doing it’s best Magikarp impression.

Bristleback vs Devourers pets

Don’t ask anything like this.
Remember when we said longbows were weak? They nerfed shortbow so that longbow would be “more viable”.

Cause ya know they havnt improved longbow at all.

Well they sure as hell haven’t improved short bow at all.

I just got this pet, can someone please tell me what’s so great about it? I’ve only used it for like 15/20 min but so far don’t see any reason why i would take this unless i really have to have a ranged pet. The F2 just seems super weak.

The F2 is horribly glitchy and will need the target to be on the same level plain as the bristleback. When it is, it hit’s like a freight train.

It’s easily the best pet to pair with “Sic ’em” for burning pve mobs when the break bar empties.

Make Smoke Cloud blind foes!

Plus 5s of immunity to direct and incoming conditions. Makes “Protect Me!” pretty awesome now, since it can be combined with this and you have total immunity 6/48s. As well as SoR, since you can use SC, then the active on SoR and the pet will take no conditions.

Smoke Cloud only causes attacks to be evaded, it doesn’t make the pet immune to damage. I just tried this combo and the pet still took the redirected damage.

I suspect it would also take the redirected conditions as well.

Well, that sucks. But it does state evade and not immunity. I would still think that it would not get the conditions from SoR, though, because it does state immunity to incoming conditions. Maybe another one to test out.

Tested it in a pve setting and it does seem to treat it as an immunity to conditions. They simply vanished rather than being transfered.

1 glider skin with HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Substance E.4852

Substance E.4852

DLC-BS? Do you realise it’s a F2P game where a cash shop supports the game and future development?

A: HoT is buy to play. For many, it’s on top of the cost of the vanilla game as well. No one is playing in Maguuma on a free “trial” account.
B: Gliders only exist in the HoT maps, which, again, are behind a paywall.

It’s not at all unreasonable to expect at least a couple of skins to be unlockable through play when gliding is integral to 75% of the xpack which costs nearly as much as a whole game.

My pet died in PvE today and I was flabbergasted.

Did the moon fall on it?

Cus that’s what it will take for that to happen now if it’s not being targeted.

AND the new one where staff only hits one foe rather than the three it says it does in the tool tip

Unless this is some new bug, it means you have to hit the enemies in a line. it’s not an AoE though the actual effect of the line is a bit wider than the beam we see.

Pets have too little HP in PvP

in Ranger

Regardless. They have twice as much HP in PvE. For some reason the Devs had decided that pets need to extremely fragile in PvP. So much so that they die to random AoE in a matter of seconds.

So do most players to be honest.

It’s not that they are fragile so much as they can’t maneuver at all and don’t dodge when we dodge.

It reduces the cooldown of the next skill used by 66% after weapon swap. That is a huge bonus for any skill but makes skills like Path of Scars, Rapid Fire, and Bonfire that much better. Not taking quick draw is throwing away a huge amount of damage in either damage form.

Wait… go back a step. Conditions and longbows are now the PvE DPS meta? O,o

I guess I was out of the loop a long time.

Top pve build right now is Vipers A/-/T where you just swap the same weapon set for constant bonfires.

The best zerk build is still S/A-LB to my knowledge.
