Players have a tendency to take an offhand comment from a “red” post and turn it into a guarantee carved into the side of a mountain in fifty-foot high letters.

Hyperbole.

Some people do take comments as “promises”, I’m not disputing that. But I would argue that it is not the majority of players that do this. In fact, for every post by someone who mentions a “promised” feature, there are often four or five responding posts that point out that nothing was promised. This leads me to believe that this problem is not as insurmountable as people would like to imply.

Bottom line is that if someone interprets general information as a “promise”, that is their own problem. Neither the devs nor the rest of us are responsible for that. That is not a good excuse to have a company policy that hinders the developers’ relationship with the majority of the player community that is perfectly capable of understanding the difference between a preliminary overview of a developing feature and, as you put it, “a guarantee carved into the side of a mountain in fifty-foot high letters.”

A big issue is the general lack of (in the past it seems) communication on their end. When a company makes very liberal use of the forums to chat and communicate ideas they are throwing around it becomes much easier to accept things as off the hand comments and ideas rather than something absolutely in the pipeline.

When the amount of communication is reduced to practically once a month, if that, people tend to assume that if they took the time to post it, it must be of fairly high importance and thus a sure thing to look forward to in the future no matter how much it’s implied that it’s not.

Rox Quiver is on sale again in the shop O.O
Since when? And how long are sales usually? Man, why does it not say how long…
I have no gold atm and the exchnage rates are kittened up. 66 gems for 10 gold. wut.

Is there any place I can go to see how long this will be up?

Probably for anther week at least. The “Destiny’s Edge 2.0” gear all came back when they put Belinda’s great sword in the shop.

I’d say just throw the $10 at it if you need to. It won’t go away over night but miss it and it could be months before you get another chance if grinding the ~100g is too difficult in the allowed time. Gem prices skyrocketed when the nihonto skin finally came out and this big daily deal thing is keeping them from going back down.

DMany of the ragers and trolls around here are actively working on casting a dark shadow upon GW2 because a new, soon to be released game needs more people and this is one way to attract them.

lulwut? I think your tinfoil hat is on too tight bro.

Not at all, the last 2 guilds I was in had officers actively recruiting for the new game and constantly trash talking about this game they were “playing” . I dunno on what Utopian guild you’re in but you’re lucky if this hasn’t come up for you.

Guild chat = forum?

Guilds are multi platform/game all the time. Maybe they got tired of GW2 and are trying to get their buddies to join them in a new game. Whatever you think about GW2, their opinion is just as valid and they are perfectly in their right to try to get their gaming companions to join them in a new game.

Slight LB buff fixed all the pet issues baked into the class design that was the root of the CDI?

That’s not the only thing which came up, and it’s not the root of the problem with ranger.

The class still has an embarrassingly badly designed class mechanic that requires near perfect handling just to make the ranger as good as other classes and is nearly useless in large scale fights in both PvP and many PvE encounters with massive aoes.

I dunno, I’ve had it be . . . not a burden in large-scale fights. I know of at least four instances where “Search and Rescue” was darn near stapled to my hotbar due to how useful it could be. (I wound up doing so for the Dredge fractal boss a couple times, actually.)

Regardless. It’s not just the pet mechanic that’s an issue, it’s an aggregate of a lot of other things which turn into a pile of “nope”.

I can’t speak from much pve content to be honest. I don’t do fractals or much dungeon stuff, but in zerg vs zerg the pet evaporates like a puddle on the moon.

I don’t think it was done to scare you. I think it’s because it’s a mesmer-specific complaint, with a heavy bias towards PvP balancing, phrased with a very inflammatory tone in a general discussion post about ArenaNet’s communication with its players. It’s better off elsewhere and frankly has nothing constructive in it.

Just my guess though. ¯\(?)/¯ Edit: wtb utf-8

Unfortunately it is not first time they blow it up like that. Do you remember:
Dhuumfire?
Automated response?
Diamont skin?
Healing signet?

Community warned them it will be op (and without counter-play) against certain builds but it was too late as they announce things after they are already implemented…

Those problems would not be in the game if a-net were more open and transparent.

Please answer this Chris. You made a ranger CDI and what we got? All the answers you gave was the same ‘Not in design, you say x but we’ll do y’. Man you pick the most useless point from the cdi (OH THE MIGHTY GREAT POISON MASTER) and added it to the game.
As long as you use CDIs as tools to persuade your changes to people and shelters to say “But we asked for this and you wanted it!!11!”, thanks but no need for CDIs.

I don’t know, I remember people talking about buffing the damage of long bow and that was done. And the signet change is very good, I think.

Not quite sure what you’re on about.

It’s unprecedented that we got to take 1 step forward without taking 2 steps back or even 1 step back, but the goal line is still far off into the distance.

Why aren't Rangers ever wanted?

Rangers were designed for small-scale/1v1 fights. Deal with it.

So where mesmers and thieves and they still have incredibly powerful WvW utility.

Mesmers yes but thieves not so much. Thieves are certainly a premier roaming class though.

A good thief will need a whole party to hunt him down to keep him from killing a yak along the road to Garrison over and over and I’ve seen several tail enemy zergs for nearly an hour with his tag on letting us know where they were.

[Farming] Prices on TP must go down

Substance E.4852

It’s a two-fold problem.

1. Several of the ingredients are very hard to get in any decent quantity. Supply vs demand.
2. The food is incredibly OP vs most of the other comparable foods. Making demand high and causing other ingredients to be far lower in value resulting in very little offset when the RNG gives you a different herb drop.

The easiest way to fix the problem without having to address drop rate is to either make other foods better so it’s not such a “Oh, well obviously I’m going to use poultry lemongrass soup in WvW” situation. The other option is to simply remove +/- condition duration foods entirely as their existence pretty much necessitates that other person use the counter food you use.

Option two would have the nice added benefit of making soft crowd control worth a kitten against a particular class.

True we are stronger, but this also means that anything related to actual WvW/GvG usefulness, sword root, pet issues, bloated trait lines, Sb/Axe purpose ect will pretty much have to wait another 6 months if not more.

Because I have faith that good players far outweigh the grievers.

GW 2 your first MMO then? If something like this were implemented there are players whose entire existence in this game would be to run around Queensdale and gank. Trolls and people who grief will always be part of MMOs. What sense does it make to actually give them the tools to make trolling easier.

lol, he extrapolates from Cursed Shore and assumes that because that zone has 40-50 people trolled by 3-4 that, if we reverse roles, the ratio will remain and it will be 3 trolls getting obliterated by 30 good guys who just want to vegetate in CS in peace.

When in reality, every sociopath who plays WvW simply to gank newbies who have no chance at beating them would coalesce into a Katamari of pure, weapons-grade trollonium and completely shutdown the whole character creation process by instagibing every person who spawns in the exact spot you appear after the intro instance.

The amount of people who are jerks is far out weighed by the people who aren’t. It’s just that the jerks happen to far outweigh the portion of good people who care enough to do anything about it.

Hence, theses kinds of things happen and it’s often hilarious to watch from the sidelines. http://www.tentonhammer.com/eve/guides/combat/hulkageddon-4

Probably not the best example since so many of the hulks are bots and blown up ships helps spur the game’s economy but it was the first that came to mind. It also holds parallels with people confusing griefing with completely condoned game play.

There was clear evidence that people were completing the event just to spite the farming group. Going invisible so they can’t be whispered, dragging the mobs to the group, and then laughing, saluting, jumping around, etc when the event was completed.

Unfortunately, the groups wouldn’t stop giving them exactly the attention they were looking for. My solution was to just leave, but I guess that’s too much to ask of a group that can’t stop flaming a troll.

Stop trying to break the game and people won’t be able to “troll” you. It’s literally that simple…

Or at least GW1’s Medium type armors (Assassin, Ranger, etc)
In early alpha pics, a promo thief used Heavy armor. Was nice.
With being able to use those skins as well, we all could look 10 times better.

I miss them so mutch!

You can. You just need to make a human. Falconer’s armor is basically a medium leather set with steel plates on the shoulder, chest, elbows, shins, thighs, and face. it’s not the best armor set in my opinion but the parts do go well with other sets.

The fact that pure wvw players have little to no money but at the same time actually need different tags in order to make wvw better never entered the equation.

Pretty much this…

This wasn’t a “Hey, lets finally give WvW’s that one very easy thing they have been asking for a long time now” it’s a “hey this is a great way to cater to the absurdly wealthy pve crowd who love impossible to ignore vanity crap while tanking several thousand gold out of the game” idea…

lol there are no grievers in PvE. What there is are people playing a game that they paid for and a bunch of kitten farmers who are constantly upset that they can’t easily exploit bad game design for profit…

Whoa, let’s turn that around right now. You have 30+ players wanting to do an event. Yet, 3-5 players are preventing that event from ever occurring. So that makes the 3-5 righteous in your eyes??? I’m looking at several of them right now and they are all known to have grieved the QD train and Boss Blitz. Now, what is the excuse for Boss Blitz? One individual in particular would run circles and aggro mobs (especially Boom Boom) to attempt to prevent Gold. How is that not grieving? How is a pattern of behavior against fellow players excused?

That’s why fine, let’s turn off the protection mechanism’s that coddle these players.

lol complaining about QD champ train getting “derailed” is exactly what I’m talking about. You aren’t entitled to a clean, neat stream of effortless events.

The boss blitz was a completely different issue than what you are complaining about and don’t even try to act like it is.

It’s like you are taking people who defend points in Edge of the Mists and saying they are the same as people who intentionally waste supply by building rams inside of keeps and throw ballistas in front of gates to prevent ram placements in WvW.

One is people playing the game as intended which conflicts with people’s attempts at exploiting bad game design for profit. The other is people obviously being kittens on purpose.

Agreed…well at first, I’d envision something like blue=WvW field commander, yellow= guild commander, red= havoc group commander, and green= PVE event commander

As far as I am concerned, blue = WvW commander. Anything else, PvE garbage.

Different colors could have been very useful in having a main zerg and 1-3 smaller teams taking camps ect. Everyone would know where everyone was.

Not so much when they cost half a pre. You’d need to pay 900g to be a small team leader unless you have a static group of commanders who always know who is which color and thus only have to buy that one.

Also mesmer is no longer my main profession, it was once over a year ago, but I couldn’t stand relying on bugged, fragile as glass illusions to do anything of value.

That said, I’m withholding judgments regarding increased ranger viability for the most part until the patch lands and things sift out….

Now, if some of those problems were looked at and addressed, I could definitely see the meta changing to include them. The problem is that they weren’t, and just giving the class more ranged damage potential likely will not be enough to warrant substantial demand or even their use.

they are already being used in GvG and ZvZ for piercing arrow assisting each other on enemy commanders.

I’ve yet to see a top-tier GvG/ZvZ guild look for rangers as viable DPS, even despite the benefits of piercing. It’s too vulnerable and provides too little utility.

I’ve heard of it being used extremely rarely, and essentially as a one trick pony. I doubt it was a top tier GvG team but someone used it successfully on gank for one round, but had to trade it out the next round since their opponenet’s gank squad learned about it the previous round, and were able to fully nullfy the ranger before they could attempt to longbow gank a second time. So no, it will not be viable, which makes me sad, but balancing specifically for an unofficial game mode isn’t exactly one of Anet’s goals, even though their goals in general are questionable.

We had JQ throwing this at us on BG last night. It was particularly effective in burning down our commander’s health very quickly, but it had some very specific stipulations for it to work.

-Many of the fights that it was happening in were easily 1.5-2:1, if we simply can’t push through the bigger hammer train, we can’t reach the back liners
-Our commander was a norn wielding two legendaries and a fractal capacitor. Even with the change to the cmd tag showing up in WvW names, it’s pretty easy to say “everyone target the norn with the Bifrost and the sparkles shooting out of his back.”

If you don’t have a solid meat shield and a very obvious target to Ctrl T, I can’t see it working nearly as well.

Guys, stop talking about the merits of trinity. All options on it are subjective and without right or wrong and will accomplish nothing but getting the thread locked.

I used it as an example of why people I know weren’t interested in the game and posited that the lack of such a system may turn off people who have grown accustomed to it being part of the mmorpg genre as the vast majority of other games revolve around it.

I wish I hadn’t mentioned it to be honest since people can’t seem to separate the mention of “Holy Trinity” with an indictment of the game for not having it.

Don’t see what you’re on about substance. Its an amazing game that has a growing population. I think people have become skeptical of the exact nature of season 2 recently since Anet needs a break after a little over a month. The problem is how poorly they did on twitch. They don’t seem to be very good at marketing the game/dont want to. I don’t know. Its going to be hard to redeem that presentation.

I’m not making a critique of the game. I simply stated why people I know and talked to (3 videogame/animation design schools worth of folks so no small pool of “gamers”) either stopped playing or weren’t interested in the first place and that the continued existence of such features in the game are probably going to hurt their hopes of attracting people who don’t like said features.

Basically, bungling a PR campaign isn’t really going to hurt them that bad when the majority of the MMO customer base has probably already made up their mind one way or another.

Yeah, lack of trinity is nice because, unless you’re one of those 3, you’re not valued. Frankly, I’m surprised that people like the holy trinity. It’s very limiting.

Except that games that have it that care about balance tend to make sure that the classes all fall into one of the roles.

i and my 5 friends enjoy the lack of a trinity. And it isnt really necessary in RPGS in general.

I didn’t say it was necessary, I said people in general tend to associate it with the genre just as people tend to associate a game without grind as a game without end game kitten many use a treadmill of ever growing power creep to keep people playing.

The games biggest selling point is that it’s buy to play and even that tends to irk people who hate item malls. I have yet to meet someone in person who wasn’t actually tuned off by the whole “no trinity” idea. It seems so antithetical to MMO’s, and RPG’s in general, that it’s almost like trying to sell an FPS without any guns in it.

I just think people would have a different perspective if thiefs had to build upto a steal, rangers had to build up to a pet skill, guardians had to build up to agies, ele had to build up before changing atunements etc (all these things are just cooldowns, not two hoops to jump through)

im just saying this is going to be pretty rough on warriors

Clearly you have never even played ranger in a pvp setting if you seriously want to try and claim we don’t have to jump through hoops to get our class mechanic to work…

Some classes are harder to level than others and the new trait system means you don’t inherently have access to traits that can make all the difference in lower level fights.

Katanas are not one-handed swords.

And the last thing I want to see is some idiot dual wielding katanas.

So are you cool with giant metal surfboard great swords and Thieves rapidfiring flintlock pistols? Just to get a metric on what real world rules apply here…

SAB Time

Another vote for SAB. Don’t need World 3, just exactly as it was, and ideally permanent. (obviously world 3 and 4 and the red and purple SAB skins would be awesome though).

As for the people who are asking for it not to be turned on, or for no rewards… why? It’s already made. Why would you want to deny people fun just because you don’t enjoy something?

Because that’s not how the world works. “Turning it on” takes time, resources and money that are desperately needed in other parts of the game. Your request actively makes my experience worse.

Why are you trying to deny me the game that I purchased as advertised for some 8-bit mini game?

lol you must be one of those people who complains about how new game assets takes time away from class balance…

Protect Me VS Signet of Stone

They should just change “Protect Me!” to a shout that gives an aoe protect buff ~10s in exchange for the pet not attacking for the duration with like 40s or so cooldown.

Gets rid of the double dip and provides solid team buffing that the ranger is sorely lacking.

And significantly nerfs the skill….

It’s become redundant with the new SoS and we need team buffs. Just throwing out an idea to make us better in wvw where the pet’s more often then not dead anyway.

Maybe throw some stability in there as well for good measure.

This game could use more gorilla warfare.

Just never leave the general area around the jungle in Orr and the Melnadru Temple.

Silver Fed Salvage-O-Matic Costs 1 Silver?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It’s a convenience item. yes it costs the same as master kit, but no you never have to visit the merch again for a a kit or have a kit run out while out exploring.

Not sure how spending $20 to get 1k gems is a convenience. And no it doesn’t cost the same, its charging at least 40 copper more per salvage, did you even go to math class?. At least with the copper fed one.. its 3 copper.. you are saving half a copper per salvage when you compare it to the one it’s equal to. The cost to salvage for the Silver Fed .. should be adjusted to 50-60 copper to be more balanced. I’m sorry but I rather stock up on Master kits vs spending an extra 10 silver.

Although I doubt ANet will read any of this.. they are just out for the money.. so they figured if you spend more salvaging using this thing.. u’ll run out of money faster.. then u’ll have to buy more gems to convert to gold to continue salvaging.

Then don’t buy it? The copper one makes sense because of how much merch fodder drops in the game that one can justify spending a big upfront cost on an item that barely saves any money through it’s use.

It’s my favorite archetype in fantasy RPG’s even if it tends to be kind of bad in a lot of games.

I like it in GW2 because of the ability to make use of quick close combat and very long range combat in the same build and the complexity that the pet brings. It does have it’s issues, but it’s rarely a boring class to play which to me is more important than bleeding edge performance.

The way I see it, it’s a nice compromise between WvW and PvE. People who know nothing about WvW can go into Eotm and start learning the basics. Once they get them down, they’ll be a much greater help in regular WvW.

Except in WvW people kind of get annoyed when you try to take their stuff and tend to reply with hammers and arrow carts instead of “Oh just gimee a sec to finish moving my stuff out of the flat and then you can make yourself at home”

The grub in EB kill it to get a trait for ele

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Substance E.4852

I did it with around 6 people. It took me weeks though to finally get it done. It’s just another annoyance with the new trait system. You’re better off just buying the trait.

I read this as: “it took 6 people several weeks to kill the grub”. which seems pretty accurate as it’s health is somewhere around that of a unsigned 64-bit integer: 18,446,744,073,709,551,615

It really didn’t take that long to kill. Around 10 minutes with around 6 people. It took me longer waiting for people to show up to kill it because they needed the trait unlock too.

I’m going to need to see a video to believe this. Both the Grub and Tree have enough health to survive multiple atomic blasts applied directly to their faces.

I don't like Chaos skins

They recycled a lot of meshes and overall they have really low poly counts (not sure why I can count the edge faces on these when the amber weps are so smooth) but they still look really nice.

The biggest flaw for me is the fact that the glow is attached to the weapon and disappears in profile rather than being an image plain that aims at the camera like virtually all other effects in the game since launch.

That being said, I still will probably get the LB and 1h sword.

Just let us dye them like ye olde Chaos Axe…
