I hear people can refelct all of Backstabs damage back at you and also severely punish you for backstabbing by chunking your health if they have retaliation alone, oh wait…

Oh how I wish a thief would take an instant 4k hit from a single backstab.

Pretty much stopped using piercing arrows iin WvW because it got old fast to watch my health evaporate without taking a single hit from an enemy.

You’re deluding yourselves.
1500m, high velocity, tracking, 8 sec recharge skill that does THAT much dmg that fast is a kitten to the profession and game modes.

I have 2 lvl 80 Rangers which i’ve always loved playing, but last night running around wvw was a complete joke. I specc’ed full berzerker 6/6/xxx just to see the changes at thier full potential and it was the least fun i’ve ever had playing my ranger, Fights didn’t feel hard won at all and very very cheesey.
But unfortunately for every player like myself that likes to feel like they’ve earned a wvw kill, there will be 1000 players who just want the ‘i win’ button.

Please think before you defend or justify these changes.
Do you want Rangers to become the fotm cheesemode scrub class? because thats exactley the rep they will now get.
Have some pride in your Ranger and in your own skills because being OP gets very old very fast.

I don’t know what up lvls you’ve been fighting with but with your spec the most you’ll be is a rally bot.

Agreed. Zerker rangers in zerg fights are still a joke and the easiest thing in the game to kill. The only thing that changed is they actually hurt proportional to the amount of survivability they lack (hint: it’s pretty much all of it)

I still focus them above all other classes simply because they are the easiest to down first and a lot are awful players who just stand and catch my RF with their face.

LB GS vs LB sword axe pve/wvw

What are you using it for? GS is by a HUGE margin the superior choice for zerg fights. It was better before the patch and is only that much better with the maul and swoop changes.

Swoop is also pretty necessary when traveling over long distances. It’s also great for finishing off people in a zerg fight. RF them down, swoop, maul, and stomp while raven blinds their stomp interrupt.*

Small fights are probably whatever fits your personal style but LB/GS is still the ideal zerg kit and the only real thing to think about often is when to use Read the Wind or Piercing Arrows.

I personally use RtW for mostly open fights where the zergs are more spread out and losing line of sight is less of an issue than missing because they are moving. Piercing is great for keep fights and I’ve been able to down a lot of people since the patch while staying alive in things like Stone Mist 50v50v50’s without having to get near the enemy zerg.

*won’t work against heavies in pvt, they’ll require a big chunk of their hp gone first.

1. just because it didn’t happen to you doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen… yes, it is incosistent but it happens sometimes
2. backstab is way easier to mititgate just alone by walking in circles/with back to the wall (not to mention blinds)… and spam aoe forcing thief to back off… can’t do it with ranger pew pewing from 1500

And this is an issue with RF specificly, how? And I agree that I have never once seen this happen nor experienced it myself. Sounds like lag on your end, not a glitch.

You can’t find some kind of object to stand behind? Last I checked LB still “obstructed” on thin air or a slight incline and Anet has done nothing to address this. It’s funny how RF gets a buff and suddenly it’s a heat seeking missile with “Noclip” activated.

People seem to forget: you do have 6s of invulnerability, but on a 80s CD. It can be traited to a 64s CD.

But for example, warrior EP is 4s on a 60s CD, but can be traited to last 5s. And its a stun breaker. Stone signet is not.

As far as warrior adrenaline goes, I think that losing adrenaline if you miss your F1 is fine. The speed of which you lose it OOC is not and needs to be slowed down.

I think their intention was to weaken factors that reward hoarding adrenaline by making harder to do so rather than weaken the bonuses which would take much more work.

Mostly wvw. I’ve hit 4-5 npcs in camps several times and 4-5 people while zerg surfing. It might be a bug linked to some unknown factor or maybe linked to the presence or absence or a trait like how they broke the LB with the fury GS buff.

I would agree that the bear is no longer a good indicator of the skill’s range. It’s bigger and goes out farther but they didn’t increase the distance range of Maul as far as I know. I treat it more like a pbAoE that hits most of my front 180 arc.

I’d say try in WvW by attacking a camp and balling up the NPC’s as tight as you can before mauling to see if people are just out of range or if it’s a bug.

Beastmaster in dungeon? I’d be interesting to see how that goes. If one of you does that, please record (if you can).

I always appreciate seeing new things be tried out with an actual effort behind them.

No matter how much you could buff the pet to even out damage a zerk meta ranger, the fact that so much pve content relies on dodges means the dps pets won’t last long and F4’ing the pets wipes might and bond stacks.

There might be some fights where it works but I’m pretty sure most content would have you rotating pets due to aoe’s too much for it to out dps a player focused build.

Or remove vulnerability all together, and increse the damage by 7% to 10%

I’m sure a lot of us would be happy with the 10vuln going back on hunter’s shot as a single application.

This would actually make the skill stronger though, not weaker (or balanced, but people mean weaker when they use the word.)

What about a 3% increase in damage but no vulnerability?

Actually thinking about it, putting the vulnerability back on hunter’s shot wouldn’t be that much of a buff since it’s a big red sign shouting “DODGE NOW TO NOT DIE” when you get 10-15vuln and the ranger disappears.

OP,
First a note on rangers.
Ranger pets, if left on ‘active’ while the player is AFK will attack any mob that attacks them or the ranger. However, they have a leash limit that does not extend very far. As for damage/kills anything the pet does is considered an extension of the ranger damage, so yes the player gets the credit and rewards for anything the pet kills.

Regarding AFK’ers …
Seems you do not do many world boss events, particularly Tequatl. This event is constantly plagued with AFK’ers that scale-up champions at the turret defense areas. East turrets are particularly bad for this and politely asking players to leave or to move to the attack zerg will get you a chorus of rude comments back.

Regarding the Claw of Jormag event,
There is huge difference between players farming champs and players being AFK. At least the champ farmers are actively doing something and preventing the lootable champs from entering the golem spawn area. AFK’ers do nothing except up-scale, then tag what they need to get rewards.

AFK ‘ing is not a reportable offense, All you can do is try switching to a map where there are fewer AFK’ers.

You’ll find that like Arenanet, for some reason, certain players in these forums hate legit farmers of any type kind or species and will bash on them for hours.

You will also find certain players who will go to extraordinary lengths in bending over backwards trying to define their bullkitten as ‘legit’.

It is legit. Anet just makes crappy events that encourage mindless repetition and don’t track actual participation.

Don’t pin this on the players when Anet, time and again, puts the absolute minimum effort into their content to prevent people from AFK farming.

Do I really need to remind people of how little they gave a crap about folks ruining the LA event by filling overflows?

It still has the same range as far as I know, it just has a wider cleave.

I think two weeks and all the qq will disappear. We might even go back to ‘buff ranger’ threads once people learn how to handle longbow.

Signets and GS still seem pretty weak.

I’m enjoying the GS a lot more now that Maul hits better and Auto3 hits for more but I really do wish Hilt Bash did more than it does.

Please keep in mind that this game does have more to offer than just small group combat in PvP. In WvW pets really do have very legitimate issues due to all the AE that’s spammed without cause or concern. I would actually consider them useless there. Especially in GvGs or guild zerg groups.

The game is ballanced for a 5 man group. It is not ballanced for 30 ppl group nor a 60 ppl group. You do not need skills to win in those situations. If in ANY game AoE caps exist, the raid vs raid outcome will be won by the side with more numbers.

Zergs require no class knowledge or skill.

Not a class issue.

This 100% not true and the only people who believe this are either awful in WvW to the point that they simply die because the enemy has more hammers or have never played it.

WOW! Didn’t expect this so quickly! I almost feel like a normal class no, I only need a longbow with the super pistol sound effects.

The Super Longbow has midi sound effect also though it isn’t as pronounced. It also has kind of a janky firing animation on it though. It’s the big reason I don’t use mine very much.

I find it rather difficult to really judge how OP the longbow changes could possibly be, as the majority of the Rangers I encounter in WvW still refuse to use the mechanics of the game. No dodging, no weapon swapping and often not even moving – I sometimes have to double take to make sure I’m not fighting an NPC. I guess these changes are good for these players as they get to play the machine gun archers they all so obviously want to play, even though it gets them destroyed often. But I think these changes could have the undesired effect of further perpetuating Ranger discrimination.

I’d rather be hated for being the “OMG newb camping sniper scrub!” class than hated for the one class that is the absolute worst when it comes to WvW utility.

This was a positive step up for the Ranger if for no other reason than that.

Why is everybody complaining. There was no damage increase to rapid fire. Rangers were just as deadly before patch as they are now. So what the skills shoots a little faster, that means it’s easier to dodge. Pre-patch one dodge would negate 1/4 of the damage, now one dodge negates 1/2. Honestly, people see a big number hit them fast and they cry, while they are too ignorant to realize that the same number could be achieved pre-patch. People need to stop crying like a bunch of morons, you sound like you can’t play the game.

Said the Ranger who’s burst time is halved now) Allright mate nobody ever explained to you what DPS means? Let’s say you have 5 seconds to deal damage, when the speed of your skills is GREATLY increased you will do more damage in 5 seconds, thus your damage is greatly increased. That is why we are counting the damage in dps. It is much easier to trash damage on an enemy if you can do it faster. Maybe it’s just that you are happy now, even if you were…not happy before because you could not win a game?

Anyway, in sPVP you are not engaging a single ranger by yourself on the whole map so you kinda have to dodge many things when you have mesmers around, engi and other wonders,and while you are exhausting your talent the ranger just climbs teh cliff and trashes you with his very short burst damage. So yeah learn to dodge… Please don’t lecture other players on things that you are clearly not familiar with

No, said the ranger who hasn’t touched longbow in around 6 months, good interpretation though. Rapid fire has more burst, yes, that’s it. In fact, you could get literally the same burst pre-patch by using QZ, funny how nobody cried then. Another thing I find funny, is how nobody cries about killshot. It’s got even more burst potential than rapid fire.

Please, I won many fights with my ranger, it’s not as under powered as some people would believe, so stop deluding yourself. I am probably more familiar with the game when it comes to ranger so don’t try and lecture me on how DPS works, I know it has more burst, thank you. The thing is, nobody complained about LB ranger pre-patch, and it could achieve very, very similar numbers with the right set up, but I doubt you would know that. People are acting like LB hit 200 before patch and hits 20k now. The damage buff is marginal, and we now have 1 burst skill that is viable. Now we have a skill that can do lots of damage, very quickly. I seem to remember every other class having one of those too.

But hang on.. there seems to be some kind of correlation between how well a skill bursts and how difficult it is to dodge? It seems like when you pour all your damage into one attack it can be fully dodged and negated all at once. Now correct me if I’m wrong, but decreasing the cast time on RF made it closer to a single attack than it was before ( don’t even try and say I said it was a single strike), which surely in turn means that one dodge will negate more damage?

I mean doing some super simple calculations… if we take the square root of pie… divide by the inverse of the hypotenuse angle…. multiply by 3 billion… factor out the variables… we geeeeet : L2P, the skill is now easier to dodge and is a weaker burst skill than most out there. Seriously, enough, your tears have ended several droughts.

Just let people put 2 lvl 20 scrolls in the forge, some stones or coins or a goat and out comes a lvl 40 scroll.

New players can’t get it and it solves the whole issue

The /level scrolls should NEVER have been introduced into the game…it’s a rookie mistake in MMO’s. DAoC found that out over a decade ago. Don’t cut your content off at the knees and don’t starve beginner zones of their players.

Yes, less of an issue in GW2 because of downleveling but bypassing leveling means bypassing time spent IN THE GAME…the thing that supplies everything to the company and the players.

Spoiler warning:
GW2 doesn’t have a sub fee and “bypassing leveling means bypassing time spent IN THE GAME” doesn’t mean Anet makes less money.

No one is asking for newbies to be able to rocket to 80 in a day. We are asking for the option to do it as players who’ve already completed multiple characters and who don’t want to deal with the asinine trait system or skill lockouts.

Shrug – I’m loving these changes playing through as a new warrior. The game seems clearer and there is a lot less overwhelm as a new player.

Only thing that I would like is a toggle for map completion as the direction arrow wouldnt suggest leaving a map until its complete.

Still a lot of things that could be clarified but overall IMHO this is the best

I just want to quickly add, there are some errors on this chart of how stuff is unlocking, as well as 1st character vs. account unlocks when some of these systems were carried between regions. We’re trying to identify what happened and repair those things assigned the wrong account/character fields, as well as levels.

Unless you guys think you can fix this in less than a day maybe someone should post a description of what it supposed to happen? That could squash a lot of the threads about the issue. Letting the emotions simmer until it boils over instead seems like a terrible approach.

This is starting to feel like a “New Coke” situation.

This used to happen sometimes where if you killed the target the skill would still keep firing and would hit anything in it’s path. I think it stops if you actually select a target and it didn’t happen much before because the dps was half what it is now.

Haven’t noticed much change but I’ll reserve judgement till WvW S3 to see how much their changes have improved things.

Anet isn’t completely silent. They did say there were bugs they were working on, including the fact that some of the new player experience was supposed to not carry over to existing players and did. They don’t know why yet.

Ohh Vayne, your loyalty is cute. ( cute is the best I could come up with , without having the porcelain bus waiting for me)

On this note;

I think it’s important for a company, especially an MMO company to take what their customers say into consideration. This doesn’t mean every single customer should be listened to 100%, but if someone has something to say there must be a reasonable enough reason for them to say it. Though many people might wrongly identify an issue they experience, it’s best to listen than to just ignore waves of people.

Anet clearly have a plan and an idea for their game but it’s also important to them to understand their game is played by the players. As well as it’s important for the players to understand those making the game have a vision for it.

Many in the forums can’t understand their vision but they also don’t seem to care to make their vision clear, thus frustrating many of their players.

But then again decisions are being made which might not be just in the best interest of players, they might be forced to make real business decisions, which might be against what players want.

All in all it’s a shame they made a game with such potential that time after time is met with so much criticism (almost always with some sort of credibility) due to their unusual lack of transparency in such trivial subjects with their players.

Also a note for Anet; don’t treat people as stupid, instead teach them to be better. No one goes into a game knowing the game 100%, but to assume that means they’re dumb is insulting. Make engaging, proper, yet subtle tutorials, don’t assume people are dumb and slow.

Overall I think they had the right idea into slowly introducing the game to new players but I think they went overboard and made some not so great choices along the way. I personally think many of their decisions made with the Chinese GW2 were on the right track, but not all of it was so spot on.

Also (unfortunately for some) the fact this is a free to play MMO will mean it must do things very differently from subscription MMOs, their income style is completely different and it seems Anet have been a bit wobbly trying to figure out exactly what their main income source will be with a free to play MMO.

Anet’s biggest problem is how bad their communication is. So many big outrages could have been severely reduced if Anet were just better at communicating.

There needs to be more openness and more transparency.

I’d like to think they are still “vacationing” and they will resume their suddenly much more open dialogue. They were doing it right just before they all went on a booze cruise or w/e.

No small amount of breath holding on my personal end to find out wtf happened to Frost Spirit.

Why can't Rangers use 2 of the same pet?

can’t use two of the same pet for the same reasons , now warroirs can’t use f1 axe, f1 hammer.

applying two bouts of cone burning , or Double long spider immobilise in addition to other mobile impairing condis , that will become Op.

-5 points for not realizing we can already use two immobilize spiders.
