It’s not Comcast. I’m on AT&T and have the exact same issue.
Hello, I am Oscuro of Kaineng! I personally like no white swords to an extent. First, I believe it makes hav icing and soloing keeps MUCH easier because no one knows what you are doing until it is too late.
I read this as: “Hello, I like to PvE, so I like the change a lot. <3”
Seems to be the general consensus among the people who are in favor of no swords.
Why they don’t know that EotM is a thing is the real question…
I have a feeling ANet is trying to appeal to new users, even at the expense of the existing user base.
“WvW was found to be too confusing for new customers players and will be slowly faded out over the next few months.”
The problem as I see it, is that players posting here are simply crying because the game doesn’t tell them where everyone on the enemy team is anymore, instead of having them break into smaller groups and do a little thing commonly known as “searching”.
Oh ya. Nothing says buttloads of fun like a group spending 20-30 minutes tracking down another group only to have to start all over again after one of them is wiped.
GW2 Best Cross Country Running Simulator 2014
I didn’t mean it to sound as though I wasn’t saying rangers don’t have problems hahaha, sorry if I did.
My tl;dr/summary post would say something like: “basically, in WvW you only take a Ranger in a large group versus group environment over a thief. But mesmers override the need for rangers to even be played, and are never going to impact the demand for the GWEN core without a serious gameplay redesign.”
That should about sum up the point I intended to make lol.
We need
1. More team support / more aoe
2. Pets need to be redesigned to survive in heavy aoe
I honestly don’t see any of those 3 ever happening. They are all largely covered already or irrelevant in spvp and pve and Anet has shown time and again to only ever balance around WvW when the planets align.
Yup a very dedicated team to remove the white swords on dec 16th and PPK on top of that. Will be refreshing and exciting!
Baby steps , but steps none the less !
More like putting a bandaid on a knife wound after the patient has already lost 75% of their blood.
So, all of you complaining “no tank” and “no healer” and no diversity." What stops you? Why don’t you use Wooden Spuds 21k heal in 15 seconds Ele build? Why not use his tanky warrior build or any number of bunker builds? They’re viable. You could even combine them and get three DPS for a trinity party.
The diversity is there in GW2. It may not be the one clear best approach, but it’s there — just like diversity exists in trinity games — except in the meta, where there’s one build per class per role that’s accepted. Even within the GW2 meta, there’s room for more than one build per profession, which is more than I can say of traditional MMO meta strategies.
Because people want content that requires different builds? Trinity is the meta in games like WoW or FF14 because you absolutely need to have tanks and healers along with your dps or you will fail 100% of the time.
It’s not a case of “oh well lets bring this because we’ll beat the raid the fastest” it’s a case of “oh well lets bring this because we don’t like to wipe over and over and over…”
Any diversity in other MMO’s comes in the form of multiple classes filling a single role. The best games balance well enough that they either perform equally in different ways or bring different benefits to the team. Most just end up failing at balance and you end up with the optimal party comp and the rest fall by the wayside.
People want to bring tanks and healers and feel like they are actually helping, not gimping their team for the sake of “diversity”.
Why would people pay money for a kickstarter instead of just buying gems? A game developer such as ArenaNet already has a huge ‘kickstarter’ on their back. NCsoft provides it and they have investors that are already putting money into the company so they can earn more money from it. Obviously investors are in it for profit and fans are in it for the game, but as I said, just buy gems instead.
On another note, if you want to help the developers you could send ArenaNet a postcard with your thanks or a cake.. I am sure that they would appreciate such a gesture. It’s also morale that can help a company perform better. Throwing more money at something isn’t always the solution.
I would support this because I’m not too confident that our gem store money is going to ANet and not some other random NCSoft pipe dream like Wild Star; I would donate money to a kick starter if there was clear language in it that stated that it could only be used on a boxed expansion and could not be touched by NCSoft under any circumstances.
Well NCsoft owns Anet sooooo, ya, wouldn’t hold your breath…
- Sword have better DPS and allow you to an off hand weapon, but GS have close enough damage and is way less clunky to use, pick your poison.
17% dps difference =/= close enough
On ideal scenario it is 17%, I agree, but overall that difference is lower and in specific cases GS outdamage sword.
All in all GS is VERY viable in any power build, for pvp, pve and wvw.
Maybe in zerg combat in WvW. In small scale or 1v1 most every other class build is going to wreck a GS power build. Most of the dps is in a very telegraphed spike and overall the dps isn’t high enough to outpace other power builds and will just fall apart against a good player using a condition build with food, wrench ect…
Hell, you still can’t even land hilt bash on a target running away from you in a parallel path.
Thats what everybody thought about the gs and lb. After a long time..They did care.
Except those were just flat bad. HaO is actually one of the highest burst heals in the game, if not the highest. It’s not inherently bad per se, it’s more that Trolls and Spring are so much better that HaO is not really ever worth bringing unless you really, REALLY rely on Vigorous Renewal for some reason.
This is surely the most backpedaling, double speak riddled complaint about a condition weapon’s poor physical damage that I have ever seen…
If you want a LB that does great power damage than roll a Ranger. Warrior LB is obviously a condition/CC weapon.

and yet this still doesn’t explain why rapid fire amongst all other ranged channel skills like unload get to ignore stealth as a defensive mechanic almost entirely.
How did you make this assumption?
RF is not the only one to ignore stealth as a defensive mechanic, every channeled targetted skill does that. Oh man, get your stuff together, really….i said that all channeled skills including those like unload track through stealth
it is a profession-crossing mechanic that needs to be changed, especially with the pandemic that is longbow rangers in this game
I distinctly remember a “pandemic” of cheese thieves abusing perma stealth with D/P and all we ever heard from them was “L2P”
LULWUT!? People are actually insinuating that Anet has any iota of preference for the Ranger class?
Did you people install yesterday or something?
Try to remove all the crap like auto target and auto attack (ctrl + right mouse) and it will not lock you, sword is a very interesting weapon, with some practice it can be really enjoyable.
interesting = broken
Broken = L2p
L2P calling = stupidity. Do you know how or how good I play? Do you know anything about me? So who are you to judge my skills? I can handle sword, I still say it’s broken.
It’s broken because it offers few advantages at the expense of many disadvantages.i know you have less then 1400 achievement points and have been around this game for over 3/4th of a year by now (forum history).
We do know something about you indeed.
Aw snap, he dropped your achievement points! Cuz nothing says skill like achievement points. I bet yours aren’t high enough to run a dungeon with him….
I hear playing WvW/SPVP nets you mad achievement points
accept the fact that if a ranger catches you mid-fight with rapid fire there’s nothing you can do about it?
-Dodge roll
-use an evade skill
-use and interrupt skill
-move behind obstructing terrain
That a whole lot of “nothing”
Immobilize stacking is the most broken aspect of this game. I can’t believe people defend a something that prevents you from moving until your dead.
It totally kills the game.
Because they can’t get kills without it.
I am generally unhappy with most of the changes that have been made to this game as it is slowly moving it closer to a ‘cookie cutter’ MMO, something I do not want to play. However, you guys go on trying to remake the game into something else, someday you will have what you want, another vanilla MMO without any way to discern itself from others out there.
You hate perma content and love time gated, temp content that punishes a person for not playing but then say you rue the day that GW2 will become another “vanilla MMO”? You do realize that “vanilla MMO’s” revolve around gear/stat treadmills that punish a person for not playing right? You can’t take time off in a typical mmo. That’s time lost that could have been spent grinding best in stats, and if you wait long enough, you may have an entire new level of gear to ascend to making your life even more miserable because no one will be left to grind your current gear tier.
LS1.0 was no different in a sense. If I took off the month that the Tower of Nightmare was around I was kittened. I’d log off with the zone looking fresh as frebreeze and log in ~30 days later to see everything messed up and a broken tower in the middle of the lake with no way to experience said content at all. Up until recently, I couldn’t even get many of the skins that came as part of the event, never mind the guaranteed gem store plugins that are almost always limited time only.
LS2.0 is a complete xboxone80. Now chapters can be bought if not unlocked and played at the player’s leisure with optional grind ensuring that people are still in dry top to this day. It is far more in line with what GW2 was built on and doesn’t make people feel like they have to log in, the very freedom a semi-casual, B2P game is supposed to be about.
I feel like you decided to just sling “vanilla MMO” as some sort of platitude derogatory term rather than even think about what you were describing…
Pvp noobies? Are you sad that noobies killed you or that power rangers aren’t free kills?
Therefore the qq is completely without substance.
kitten right it isn’t…
I honestly think QQ is directly tied to the number of players playing that class. Warriors got buffs way back, and for months it was nonstop QQ about warriors. Then hammer nerfs, trait nerfs, healing signet nerfs, warriors aren’t as common and nobody complains anymore. I have this theory that it’s the same with ranger, because lets be honest, they are the only thing around right now due to the recent buffs. I kill people with my shortbow and they call me a LB noob. I kill them with my sword and they call me a LB noob (actually happened to me). Eventually the fair weathers who came just for the patch will leave and people will complain less because the class will be less prevalent. I look forward to that because I miss the compliments of killing people in wvw on my ranger, now all I get is raging kids calling me a noob because I play the new OP class. Makes me cry everytime =’(
Beat me and you’re a try hard with no life.
Lose to me and you’re a scrub noob.
Beat me with a ranger and you’re a scrub noob? Ya, makes no sense to me either…
Rangers have been laughable for so long anything but the status quo feels like a crime against nature to some people…
(edited by Substance E.4852)
Let’s not forget that it also has a mysterious “line of sight” requirement that nullifies the damage if they walk behind a chest high wall.
There is one thing I don’t like, though;
Necro – Grasp (#1 skill on your staff) – Velocity of the projectile increased by 50% so players no longer escape from it when you cast it at max rangeNow I’m asking “Why could you not do that with longbow’s Long Range Shot?”
That would have made sense and we all know how much anet hate’s making sense when “Balancing” the ranger…
I mean, why would they choose to buff unused skills for the Ranger in a patch designed to buff unused skills for the other 7/8ths of the game? That’d be just weird…

I worked in the software industry for a bit and we never, I repeat never, let a week go by without communicating to our customers what our current development priorities were. And you know what? Sometimes we didn’t meet our deadlines, which we explained to our customers with the reasons why. And guess what? Our customers were angry. Know what else? Life went on, we continued developing the software, and our customers knew exactly what we were doing. I dare say our stakes were higher too, since it was $65 million dollar project (yay for government contracts). I guess I can’t understand why ANet is unwilling to act in a similar fashion.
The only logical answer is that they just don’t have anything worth announcing or they refuse to make big updates that blow people away and save them for the last minute so they can throw their hands in the air and say “welp, too late now for changes it launches in 2 days!” when we inevitably say “That’s it?”
I mean, Square Enix just released their teaser for their next major update and it’s a big package of things people have been asking for and things that they have hinted at or directly described for months now (ninja class, new coil ect). God forbid Anet ever let us know anything more than a week in advance without a stifling air of ambiguity.
This is worse than I hoped but faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar better than I feared. Hopefully Anet will slap this on and never, ever touch the LB again.
Hunter’s shot could maybe use a rework (removing the stealth and making it shadowstep the pet to the target would be amazing) but that’s pretty much it.
I believe that’s the first face in the list when you use a total makeover kit. It’s only available in the kit.
If they did create some sort of infinite transmutation charge, it would be an obscenely rare black lion chest item like the merchant/bank/tp/hairstyle/etc are.
I was thinking exactly the same.
People are complaining that it would reduce the amount of income Anet has considering the amount of people who purchase transmutation stones using cash. There are other gem-store items/gem-store only items that have their own infinite versions, but they are very rare drops from black lion chests (meaning that in some sense Anet is still earning money from these as people buy BL keys aiming for such an expensive/rare items).
So make it a very rare black lion chest item, e.g. “Permanent Fashion Stylist Contract”.
If they introduce this, maybe they should also introduce a permanent make-over contract too?
Then they might as well just sell it right in the gem shop for ~1500g worth of gems because that’s how much those of us without Powerball Lottery levels of luck would have to shell out for one.
They definitely should bring them back. I trashed the non-burning book way back when and I also lost the hats that came out around the time (horns and Gandalf hat)
Making these a laurel purchase like the S1 items would be a great idea.
Most threads that have popped up on this since the game’s launch have boiled the problem down to the connection stalling or getting dropped somewhere along the line from the user to the servers in Texas.
I don’t know how much of this is in Anet’s hands but they definitely could do more to be transparent about it when we all know their constant “It’s the users’ error” canned responses are suspect at best.
if yuo built for 2.7k toughness then a decent amount of hp , you can maybe get away with Flitting between frontline and behind the commander using Gs, S/d , LR , muddy terrain and SotW with RoA as you’ll need more than one source of Stability on the front lines .
I think it depends heavily on the numbers in the fight. I run with ~2600-2700 armor I still get instagibed if I get caught by the train or fail to dodgeroll through a clump of wells/marks.
Stone sig helps, but because it only reduces damage, not block or make invulnerable, you can still get stun/immob locked and die once it wears off.it will take some Extreame kiting skills to avoid it, I’ve learnt to use Sword two really quickly to Evade leap side aways over a wells to the other side of a zerg to avoid more statics and stuns, moving down the flank infront of the commander applying CC’s then moving back to the front lines , i just don’t stay there, the numbers yes but getting caught is always a risk.
I’ve tried and just found it to be less efficient than circling the whole group picking off zerker ele’s or tabbing to find a guy under 50% health.
With the new LB, choosing anything else feels like choosing LB in a dungeon when melee is so the obvious choice.
I like how everyone is talking about blackline, frontline, midline and such as if it was a real war on earth. Sadly, zergs are only blobs of players that can move through eachother and thus exploit the ability to stack on the commander. This leads to 2 blobs running through eachother, trying to deal as much damage as possible.
Except, ya know, it’s not really. Unless the commanders are terrible.
(edited by Substance E.4852)
Nope. We used to have arrows in GW1 but no bow strings. You can’t have both in Anet Land, it’s the law.

Ranger just isn’t a frontline class. You won’t be able to churn out the kind of cc/damage of a heavy and still have good survivability to say nothing of the complete uselessness of pets in the heart of a zerg.
The changes to the LB have made us a very good backline (sideline?) class that works well for picking off glassy backliners in the enemy zerg.
Anything that hurts the PvD people is good in my book, and the disabler is perfect for that.
Ya, except, ya know, they’ll just come back with catapults and PvWall which is longer and more boring.
Boring = bad, 100% of the time.
RtW and Po are Restricted to LB and CC builds.
You do realize every single weapon has access to soft CC right? Even the great sword has sword throw for cripple.
And yet some players will scream at you if you even dare to talk about mounts… but are just fine with something like this.
The broom and carpet aren’t mounts because, reasons…
It’s not just a utility question though. Look at Thief for example. In a GvG sense, they aren’t brought for poisons or stuns. They’re purely brought for damage. One would think that a Ranger now being able to ‘backstab from 1500 yards’ (to use a phrase from another thread) the class would have found a niche it can fill. Unfortunately, the defensivce options available to the class are completely underwhelming when it comes to a real organized WvW scenario. Nearly everything the class has excels at solo/small group scenarios (where the Thief’s options also dominate).
But in truth, even a Thief’s role in organized larger scale combat is tenuous. They’re brought largely because there’s no better option to taking out staff elementalists. An Ele can kite a whole group of Warriors for days and days.
At this point, the only way a Ranger would ever stand a chance at being noticed in WvW is if ANet introduced a new weapon for them. Even if spirits and pets worked, their utility doesn’t translate well to larger battles and the core problems with the class still exist. They’re ineffective at melee range because their weapons bring only damage and they sacrifice so much of that damage just to survive in melee range. At range spirit and pet utility wouldn’t work anyway.
I honestly don’t know what they could do to make people take notice of the class. All I can do is think of ways to fix the numerous issues the class has as a result of poor design. And nothing broken would help groups enough to bring Rangers up to GWEN levels.
But that’s the thing – damage really doesn’t matter in this meta on the basis that utility en masse is strictly better. The reason why thieves are taken over rangers is because their burst is reliable, and even their utility is better than that of the ranger’s. And in reality, AOE pulsing poison is one of the best battlefield utility benefits in the game. Thieves can provide the following either better than or equal to rangers:
1.) AOE long-duration stealth to a commander/core group OR AOE long-duration stealth to periphery to more easily kill said back line
2.) On-demand blinds/smoke fields for further AOE stealth/mass blinds.
3.) Projectile reflection/deflection.
4.) AOE cripple and weakness.
5.) AOE Might, Fury, and Swiftness.
6.) AoE regen, heals, and damage bonuses.
7.) High-impact burst damage with an escape mechanism that cannot be prevented through reflect/deflect effects.
8.) Boon stripping on priority targets.
9.) Equivalent or better CC through BV, etc.
10.) Escape mechanisms/damage avoidance/engage potential.
11.) Better GvG-based downed state.
The best utility a ranger can provide to its group over the thief is Healing Spring due to its combination of effects which are better than what the thief can provide per cooldown cycle, and PBS. Simply put, the “ranged advantage” and high DPS/burst is not good enough to make them viable when fighting organized groups, as these groups, especially at the higher end, are built around fighting when outnumbered and winning due to a superior defense. Damage often means little here, as most fights are won due to the proper use of major utility effects. A ranger is not going to change the outcome of this kind of battle when all it can do is provide effects which the rest of the zerg can already do and more. Additionally, it’s now even more detrimental since so many will be using reflect/deflect effects thus possibly even causing the ranger to send its damage back to itself or allies.
Rangers have always dealt solid DPS. PvP is about burst and countering burst. WvW is about mitigation and steamrolling over other people while maximizing the effects of utility bombs. It’s the ranger’s undesirable utility which will always keep them doomed to the bottom-tier relative to other classes, no matter how high its damage gets, unless all other utility gets nerfed, which is quite unlikely.
I would say that the Ranger now does have some utility in very large WvW groups if you can get several of them in a party and reliably tag the enemy commander/driver and pressure them with piercing arrows.
It can work but usually isn’t tremendously more effective than tagging the enemy driver and just dropping the hammer train on their head which brings us back to the original problem of “anything a Ranger can do, someone else can do better so why bother with ’em?”
And hey .. don’t you have experienced it yourself in Wildstar what the problems were
with raiding ? Either don’t find the right people .. or having to deal with ex-WoW Elitists ?there is no problems with raiding. there is only problems with some peoples mentality. but that doesnt make me run to my mom and cry.
Indeed it does .. since your back here and crying for harder content instead of playing
Wildstar where you have it .. but people wouldn’t play with you because you don’t
met the “WoW gear-check”And yepp .. the “some peoples mentality” is the main problem for me with harder
content in MMOs. And the more people you need .. the higher the chance you have
to deal with “some peoples mentality” that annoys you .. thats why i prefer to solo
or maybe duo / trio .. sadly there is no content for 2-3 people. Was great in EQ2 before Rise of Kunark when we could at least do dungeons that
were 10 level lower with 2-3 and had still a chance of useable master books .. sadly
that was removed with changing spell progression from 13 to 10 levelsjust for your info im playing both games.
in wildstar there isnt alot to do outside of raids atm. thats why i play gw2 when im not raiding in wildstar. if gw2 had the raid content that wildstar has, it would be perfect and i wouldnt be playing another game for the challenge.its about time that you stop talking so much crap. if you dont wanna deal with peoples mentality play a single player game.
and im not crying for harder content. i am talking about it. but since this thread gets flooded by waves of tears from egoistic players it probably doesnt make alot of sense.
what i have learned from this thread:
the people who dont want raid content dont want it because:
- they are lazy
- they refuse to learn and improve
- they lack social skills
- they are lacking thick skin
- they cant deal with other players wishes
- they dont want to grant other players something
- they are egoistic
- they are allergic to seeing other players with special rewards that show that they have beaten the content
- they dont want to spend time and effort to strive for something and achieve it
- they prefer to play single player games and therefore dont want to see raid content in a multiplayer game
- “unfair” is now used to say “content that is too difficult for my skill level”
Except that is largely the kind of person GW2 is made for.
People play GW2 because they don’t like or don’t have time for raid focused games. I know you and others would do it just for the challenge but most would only do it for tangible rewards, preferably exclusive ones. Anet knows this and will put them in, that is a fact. That kind of thing irks people who bought and play GW2 because it was the kind of game where casual play could get you what you wanted, even if it took a really long time. Hardcore raids don’t allow casuals to have easy access.
It wouldn’t bother me if Anet put in hard dungeon/raid content. I’m not a big dungeon fan in GW2 though I loved them in FF14. Probably has more to do with the no trinity, everyone’s DPS silliness, who knows…
But, I can see where people are coming from. It’s the same kind of reason I stopped playing FF14. It was a gorgeous game with a great team and gameplay but it was all raids all the time. There was nothing else worth logging in for unless one was insane and actually “enjoyed” Relic Weapon grind. Eventually it stopped being something I could enjoy because I didn’t have time in my life to dedicate to forming statics for coil runs or doing EX primals over and over till I memorized their patterns well enough to not mess it up for everyone else. Paying $15 a month training to have fun was just not worth it in the end.
We’ll cut you a deal, you can get to dodge arrows fired from a bow like Neo on speed when anet buffs all ranged DPS to equal melee.
1 skill on 1 class gets buffed and suddenly one of the most ranged combat hostile games ever made has “broken” ranged combat…
Logical skin colors were deemed too confusing for new players…
In all seriousness, they completely changed the geographical makeup of Kryta and made it the last human settlement in Tyria which also saw a large amount of light skinned Canthans come over once the country went crazy.
They also retconned the whole region to no longer be subtroppical and thus wouldn’t really need the people to have darker skin indicative of a region closer to the equator.
It’s also reasonable to believe that most of Ascalon’s people would have fled to Kryta once the throne was taken back and it was apparent beyond a doubt that Adleburn was insane and the kingdom was doomed.
As for the Mantle being largely darker of skin than average, it’s completely possible that they retreated into closed off communities that didn’t welcome outsiders and thus would still carry the genes for darker skin that was common in the region 250 years ago.
It seems a bit of a stretch to assume they borked skin color in a company that made a very well done stand alone game that took place entirely in an area influenced by African and Middle Eastern Cultures.
Or maybe the rise of Zhaitan scared everyone so much they all went pale and never recovered. It’s a mystery we may never solve…
(edited by Substance E.4852)
Viable in what context? I feel it works plenty fine in Pve. Maybe not as much dps as the 1h sword, but better for farming and plenty good as long as you stay away from the hardcore speed clearers who probably wouldn’t take a ranger anyway.
For WvW, I find it invaluable in a zerg setting. I use the LB as my main dps machine and the GS for utility and when a thief gets bold and tries to gank me.
Just make sure to take martial mastery if you can. Maul is so much of the weapon’s dps that it makes a good deal of difference not to mention more swooping.
The racial pets are essentially the ones you get to pick at the beginning. Humans should have a hound as a choice, and I think we did at one point, but the rest are fairly on point.
I think it should buff the ranger and if you trait for it affect the party. The actual meta is 2 gua 2 warr and 1 more gwen. If this buff stack with others it could take a part as the 5th party member.
Example +pvt and remove condi on evry x hit if you have a bear, + crit, crit dmg and bleed on every y hit for cats, condi and poison after spiders etc…
Other classes give 180 stat points without class mechanic sacrafice. I think rangers should do minimum the same or more.Spotter and Frost Spirit send their regards.
I’ll be sure to send them a thank you card when they get a WvW guild to finally give a crap about Rangers…
Omg after more than 2 week there are still people who can’t figure out how to counter a LB Ranger XD it’s too funny to be true.
I miss GW1 days when the player base was just actually good and welcomed new challenges.
I am NOT saying that ranger is overpowered. It suffers from similar weaknesses that the engineer has. Both are susceptible to focus fire (several blocks, evades and signet of stone helps), hard CC and conditions, especially immobilize + the pet is very difficult to keep alive in AoE heavy situations (zerg fights + some dungeons). But ranger is far easier to play than engineer. Thus in pve and WvWvW you will encounter nowadays much more rangers than engineers. Majority of players always steer for the easiest options and least effort. Warrior has long time been that professions and I wouldn’t be surprised if some players whose main was a warrior now play a ranger.
Lulwut? Longbow is still worse than both the GS and 1h sword in pve and no one cares about WvW balance and hasn’t for a very long time.
You see a lot of rangers now in WvW because now we are actually decent and not the free bags we once were when running a power build combined with people dusting off old alts to try out the changes. We SHOULD be seeing 1/8 the people in pve/wvw playing a class, anything else indicates a problem.
Personaly i think in wvw the aspect or spirit mode as you call is the only sollution for wvw players
Yes and no. There’s a lot to consider.
1. Do the buffs stack. If I have 5 rangers in my zerg do I get x5 the buff?
2. If they don’t stack, how many are there so that I don’t run into a “sorry we already have 3 rangers, bring another class” situation.
3. If they do stack how weak are they going to be to counter massive buff bloat? Will they be so weak a single Ranger still doesn’t make enough of an impact to matter?
It’s a great idea, but would need a scaling system, not a static one to work properly. It’s the same as when we all ask for more pet armor/health in WvW. Make it a static amount and it breaks roaming but make it scale with enemies in a radius and it balances for both modes.
Yes, I did not specifically list other counters as I thought that I got my point across very precisely. There are 8 classes in total so it would take a lot of space and time, because some people clearly need to be spoon fed information about the game.
Oh they wouldn’t listen even if you did.
@T Raw: You seem to be dismissing everything people say that does not fit in your limited point of view that is heavily influenced by your inability to fight a certain build to grasp the concept of builds advantages and disadvantages.
The only time a Ranger shines is when you are flanked while engaging someone else. It is not a 1v1 spec in the sense that it has no sustain, no durability and extremely weak condition removal and stun breaks. Its intended role is to quickly turn a 1v1 into a 2v1 by doing so from range instead of from stealth, like the thief does.
There, in fact, exist builds that are direct counters to the ranger, such as: S/D thief, Meditation guardian, Eviscerate warrior(especially if traited for reflection) which have extremely selfish short CD counter to bursts, be it blocks, reflects, heals, evades, blinks, rushes or blinds. To top it all off, you have your regular dodges if your CDs are on, which they should not be if you are a competent enough player.
There also exist direct counters with longer CDs because they are party wide in the sense that its an AoE reflect wall, AoE protection, AoE heal. There is also a plethora of pushes, pulls, knockdowns, stuns and dazes both range and melee to counter the positioning advantage the ranger has.
Furthermore, all of the meta builds have innate counters.
-The engineer has a ranged stun, reflect, block and pull in his core build (tool kit and shield) and a lot of sustain.
-The DD elementalist has protection, many rushes, a blink and extraordinary healing. —-The guardian bunker is a support and point holder, not a fighter, and it can tank a point for minutes on end vs a Ranger, and many a time it can tank 2v1 for more then 30s which is enough for help to arrive. The Medi guardian is a direct counter.Even Ranger Vs ranger is a counter , if the ranger has Eagle eye, the Non eagle eye ranger will have to close the gap Also.
Pretty much the only weapon on the ranger kit that doesn’t have a direct counter to RF is axe mainhand but people only ever use that on regen/BM bunkers anyway.
This game is truly doomed if all that is left to spvp is people omplaining a glass Zerk, burst build actually BURSTED THEM DOWN.
=__=
plus 5 points for being a thief though. I’m sure if one of us posted a screen of 6k+ backstabs we totally wouldn’t be greeted with a tsunami of “learn 2 play noob”

I didint say the build was overpowered or had no counter. I said its a build that requires you to only press 1 button from 1500 range with no risk , no positioning whatsoever.
Please read the thread before commenting . Im not gonna repeat the same thing over and over.
Hate to break it to you but you are just flat out wrong. For the damage everyone is complaining about, the risk is being extremely glassy and having next to no condi removal.
The only way a glass cannon ranger can survive is by positioning themselves well and using well timed CC’s to keep distance between themselves and their opponents.
Please read every other thread on this same topic because everyone that actually knows the ranger class and their vulnerabilities is tired of repeating the same thing over and over.
That requires thinking. It’s much easier to die to RF because “Dodge, what’s that?” and then complain on the forums that it’s OP.
That much damage at that speed and at that range is broken.
No one has a problem with rangers doing 13k damage in 1-2 seconds, but doing that much damage from 1.5k plus range is bad for the game.
I’m amused by the rangers who are defending this tooth and nail though. I’ll be even more amused when the “adjustment” comes
<Edit>
Some videos showcasing the problem.
lol, just watched all the videos youre citing…
1st video:
some full glass ranger blowing all 3 utility cds every single clip just to kill:
a zerk warrior, zerk eles, and uplevel rangers. i hope you realize that many of those fights were sped up and all of those fights were glass against glass which is always ridiculous (the only exception being the engineer, who struggled because he relied on bombkit, but ultimately wouldve won if not for the ranger getting rescued).2nd video:
same, but he begins to incorperate fury3rd video:
same, but with signet and pet might stacking.4th:
same, but now with more help from allies.tl;dr: videos of cherry picked fights where glass players get the jump on other glass players and blow them up are not representative of anything except those cherry picked situations. had the roles been reversed, and any of the players gotten the jump on him, he wouldve died (exceptions made for the murdered uplevels and the thief with no stability who attacked him on a cliff edge).
Yet you’ve missed the point entirely.
That damage at that range and that fast is the problem….we’re not even delving into the ease at which this is done.
So reward those videos with that in mind (also lulz to the sped up fights comments) then come back
Can we delve into the ease that a person can tap dodge twice, avoid the entire rapid fire, and then proceed to obliterate the glass ranger? Or would that level of basic thinking destroy your false narrative?
Also, -50 points for show casing cherry picked WvW videos to try and claim something is OP. Anet, and pretty much everyone else, stopped giving a crap about roaming WvW balance when Dire gear became a thing.
