If you were planning on selling them then why hold on to them? If you promised one to someone why didn’t you mail it when you made the promise? Why by 5 in the first place? If I had 500 gold laying around I certainly wouldn’t buy 5 of these.
As for the change, probably the old “must do content to get reward” mantra even though BoH drops (or dropped, do they still drop) from achievement chests.
Did you read what I wrote? They are Prizes for a charity event that takes place this Fall, the ExtraLife Charity Event. I was holding onto them for that event.
If they were for some event occurring in the future then why buy them with such a lead time? You couldn’t remember to save 500g and 1250 BoH and not spend them until the event was over?
Because anet doesn’t let us know about these things ahead of time causing such a problem. Suppose they did wait till just before only to find out that Anet decided to increase the price per tag, tack on another requirement, or simply limit the amount one person could buy for no reason.
We’d be having the same discussion we are right now except the question you’d be asking is “why they didn’t buy them when they knew they could afford them?”

Kudzu bowstring is still ugly as ever.
lol at least it’s not too short and floating in mid air anymore.
I have ran guild missions ranging from 20 to 70 people since the megaserver. Most of the time, the majority ended up on the same flow. So, the taxi-ing is minimum.
Yes, still, anet need to find a solution to minimize the inconvenience. Especially when not all new players understand what it means by megaserver. In fact, many new players don’t even know pve is megaserver.
Makes sense since it’s not explained in game and you still choose a server at the start, leading folks to assume it all works the same as any other game with a similar set up.
If we can’t have a instagib burst then no one can!
Just keep blasting enemies out of channeled attacks then everyone will know the struggle…
I don’t think “too much” means what you think it means…
Rangers are now getting far too much damage. The act like thieves + pets. ANET way overbuffed them.
pffff lulwut?
Not even close. Anyone who has ever actually tried to fight a power build ranger would know this.
In the end, haters gonna hate. Those who do not think ranger is or will be viable will never think so. Regardless of any buff
lolwut? Min-maxers live to win. If the optimal class was a giant neon kitten that had a floating speech bubble that read “I am a huge tool who can’t win without this class!” they would still play it because it’s the best. Without hesitation.
If the Ranger received the holy golden buff that solved all of our problems 100% and we miraculously worked well, it would be used in GvG, without hesitation.
1.5 years of math, theory crafting, and actual play through crowd source has determined the ranger is ineffective in a large group fight and as such is not worth taking when the terms of a fight stipulate a limited number of players per team. There is no conspiracy and the only people who are ignoring reality are the folks who stick their fingers in their ears shouting how they can’t hear us and the ranger is totally rad if we’d just give it a shot.
*use one’s imagination to decide what I typed in place of ‘kitten’
Functional back items that look like actual backpacks? kitten that noise. This is GW2 son…
The bear one is pretty nice though. Would be interesting to see if we will ever get them and whether they would bother to be put in as craftable items as others have pointed out that they look like they would correspond well to specific disciplines.
Did you play Guild Wars 1 first though. Because most of the stories really aren’t all that good. Not from an objective point of view.
I am not sure that I agree that there is an objective point of view when discussing quality of story.
I personally enjoyed aspects of GW1’s story. I enjoyed aspects of GW2’s story. I am not fond of Trahearne, but really liked the whole concept of bringing multiple orders with differing views on how to fight the great evil together.
I don’t think that either game is an example of great storytelling.
Well bring disparate factions together to fight a common foe is a recurring theme in much great fiction. Trahearne was less a problem in story telling and more a problem in voice acting direction in my opinion. I mean, it’s hard to divorce one from the other.
But you know, Lord of the Rings was bringing disparte factions together to fight a common foe too.
Lord of the Rings is also an allegory (of several varieties) with deep character development considered a classic work of fiction.
Another birthday booster and another “exclusive” mini that 1000’s of other players will have and will forget about after a week.
… and it means you can’t share support/recovery/boons with your team. Any weapon that puts you more than 2 dodges away from your driver to be effective shouldn’t be used.
I really wish they would fix this ridiculous stack and kitten strategy… There should be more emphasis on tactical play rather than just spamming buffs as fast as you can mash a button.
lulwut? Since when is moving in such a way that you maximize offensive and defensive capabilities not considered “tactics”?
I’ve watched zergs die to a force 1/3 their size because they were idiots and charged a choke point used as an obvious trap. There’s plenty of tactics beyond “stack for might” and stability spam.
The only real LB buff for wvw zergs that matters is the reduced channel time on barrage.
The signet and GS buffs are the real meat of the patch but it still really won’t be enough for us to be “wanted”. Not when pets are still garbage in a zerg and that’s what our class is built around. We’ll be better, but don’t expect anyone to actively seek out ranger zerglings any time soon. Not until pets/spirits get massive reduction, or immunity, from AoE damage and we are able to function at 100% and/or bring hefty team utility.
(edited by Substance E.4852)
Well what I would do:
- critical damage to marksmanship and condition duration to skirmishing
-combine agility training with pet prowess into a single trait and move it to the master level
-move quick draw to adept level
-carnivorous appetite affects ranger as well. ICD of 1 second
-new minor trait “random cool name”- convert 1 condition into a boon on weapon swap (ICD 9 seconds)
-opening strike refreshes on weapon swap as well. Pet opening strike refreshes on Pet swap as well. There, i fixed it :p
That carnivorous appetite under 1s ICD would be a bit OP, 3~5s sounds more reasonable.
Everything else would be just amazing.
It requires a constant stream of crits to fuel. No healing when not attacking is enough to balance it.
A cooldown of 5 seconds would make it barely better than most health regen food.
(edited by Substance E.4852)
This is a casual game for casual gamers. Bearbow is the most effortless of the builds right after GS signet warrior. Casual gamers don’t care about the speed of success, just that they win in the end.
No big mystery why it’s so popular.
I think that while although in some way a near necessity for the weapon to “feel good,” it would first have to go through a slight redesign so that autoattacking isn’t the main source of DPS. The weapon is already rage inspiring by how little effort it takes to play it effectively in PvP, people would have a fit if it just got net buffed like that, and the endless stream of “Ranger AA” QQ would never end.
More risk/reward factors while also giving the weapon a reliable condi stacking tool would be my vote.
A lot of weapons rely on Auto Attack for the majority of their dps. The problem with the short bow is that the ratio is overwhelmingly in favor of AA that the other skills might as well not even do any damage for all the difference it would make. The 1h has a similar, though less obvious problem.
Modeling it after the harpoon gun* is a much better way to go than what we have. With that weapon most of the dps comes from the bleeds, but it still has a great pressure and burst damage skill on cooldown so there is skill involved in choosing when to use what and it just feels more fun overall.
*Just as great sword and spear are fundamentally the same weapon set.

You die? who cares, you drop a condi cleansing water field lasting 12 seconds…. Even in death you’d help your allies.
You rallied half the enemy team and undid all of your allies’ work but, kitten , that healing spring 2 stronk…
MMO’s, teaching gamers valuable life lessons* since pretty much ever…
*Mostly about how people are kitten
While I certainly welcome the changes, and think they’re excellent for PvP, it still needs a lot of help for WvW.
While I do agree that this won’t really help in WvW much, I don’t think any amount of dps boosts or number crunching will actually help us without making us totally overpowered in any other game mode.
It’s the pet that holds us back in WvW, and since it’s inherent to the class, this problem might never go away.
The only solution I can even think of is if they introduced some sort of active scaling for pet aoe resistance based on the number of enemy players present, but that sounds pretty far fetched imo.
The pet is still 90% uesless in large fights, but this is still a very big improvement for us in WvW. The GS was the go to weapon in zerg fights and just got better in almost every one of it’s skills. (hitting 5 people per traited maul is a lot of damage if you can survive in the hammer train) You don’t have to trait to use signets, entangle is much better for smaller team fights, and we will be able to reveal theives/mesmers for 6 seconds instead of 3. With the changes to LB and the new MM trait with 1hsword, we’re going from thief bait to one that can potentially wreck their kitten if they aren’t actually sneaky.*
*Assuming they don’t get big buffs as well.
Actually…I don’t think upping the amount of people Maul hits is its biggest change…I honestly think the range increase on it is the biggest change. I constantly missed Maul all the time when I played cause I flat out couldn’t hit anyone unless I was right on top of them.
lol I completely forgot about that change. Ya, that is going to be a big help as well.
Unpredictable events hinder organization and coordination.
Just the opposite, they encourage communication and cooperation. If something happens randomly and needs tons of folks to succeed, people will shout for help and direct people to the event. If everything’s on a timer, no one needs to communicate anything. When’s the last time anyone popped into LA to announce a world boss event before the mega server meld?
I’ve seen enough server rallies in FF14 to whoop Odin to know this isn’t a bad way to do content as long as it’s not over too soon and needs enough folks that people are forced to recruit help.
This is an awful idea for so many reasons…
Rangers don’t lack damage, they lack *BURST
liek necro lacks cond and warr needs more cc this gaem so unbalanced
Im going to assume youve never played signet berserker ranger.
1. Dodge obvious Maul attempt telegraphed by the ranger growing in height.
2. Effortlessly burn them down while they whack you with the wet noodle known as ranger GS auto attack
3. Rinse
4. Repeat…
The only thing that wows me about them is their cleave. The F2 on river/marsh is nice but it still feels like the cat kill things faster over a long duration. They also can have some of the best survivability if you use carnivorous appetite since they crit so much.
For Remorseless change I’ll ask – Why copy other professions?
Why not bonus 20% damage on targets above 50% health? That would give us an interesting niche. While Thief and Necro are more likely to finish off their opponents, we would be actually great against tanky bunkers, to start fights or punish high sustain.
Goes well with the idea of Opening Strike, too.
Someone wan’t some imba traits I get it.
20% on a really easy , almost 100% uptime requirement w/o any form of risk, way to go.
EVERYONE will grab it.
The instant they drop below 50% health your dps drops 20% as well. Good luck finishing them off if the only thing that got you there was that damage boost.
Personally I’d rather have remorseless give the damage boost when our pet is dead. Solves a big problem in pve and wvw.
As for Eb, it works fine the way it is, it just needs to not be a GM trait with a bit of a buff to make up for the fact that it competes for space with two-three of our best traits.

We will see, and for the record, i dont complain about rangers.
I complain about warrior GS, the weapon could really need some fix/buffs. rush is nice for running but the skill sucks at hitting.. make it a 900 leap or something..
100b (what i ALREADY where saying in this topic) you can remove some damage from 100b in return we get a mobile 100b.. so we dont NEED other weapons for a 100b (maby new 50b) so even GS becomes good in pvp.warrior GS, the weapon could really need some fix/buffs.
http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/21100000/lolige-the-word-lol-21172012-258-196.jpg
You only post some words from my post…
Ugh, whatever… this community is very bad @ GW2
People can only flame at this forum and say they know the best and call the rest noobs..Ok, seriously now. I’ll tell you why the warrior GS doesn’t need any buffs:
1) Ranger Rapid Fire vs. Warrior Hundred Blades
As zerker, 100b hits as double as hard as rapid fire does.
2) Not every weapon is good for everything. Some warriors might forget that. The ranger does suffer from this quite heavily. The only weapons good enough for PvE the ranger has are sword, warhorn and sometimes OH axe. The ranger GS is only viable if you don’t want or can’t play with the sword.
3) Rapid Fire can be evaded, blocked or obscured, just like 100b can be. You want your favourite weapon in PvE be also the best weapon for PvP? Not gonna happen, suck it up.Why can’t a weapon be good for pve and pvp? Apart from conditions or defensive ones, that are useless in pve, most weapons are useful both in pvp and pve.
Is that some strange kind of skin balance issue?
With the new balance preview, rapid fire will have more dps than 100b, and mh axe will probably be nice in pve.
You aren’t going to stack nearly enough might on axe to make it worth bringing over 1h sword with the new MM trait. Maybe a little better on trash mobs, but it will be only slightly better than the “meh” it is no against a single target.
While I certainly welcome the changes, and think they’re excellent for PvP, it still needs a lot of help for WvW.
While I do agree that this won’t really help in WvW much, I don’t think any amount of dps boosts or number crunching will actually help us without making us totally overpowered in any other game mode.

*Assuming they don’t get big buffs as well.
There isn’t a method for trading in the game period. Anet won’t punish them because they have broken no rules and people have been told time and again “trade at your own risk”.
And I have to say, if you are surprised people act like kitten when they can get away with it completely in anonymity then welcome to the internet. Maybe ask for the money upfront next time.
This seems like a large stretch to label it with a sexism label when the group said events revolves around is 80% female by default and 83% female if the PC/Boss is also a woman. Bugs and robots don’t count.
It’s crummy writing to expect us to care about an npc we know little about and barely interacted with but it’s not as though she was killed off simply to propel the story of a male protagonist which is what the term generally means. Especially not when many other npcs, several male, can be seen in the fort and other areas hanging from the same vines. We only care about Belinda because she has a name and a connection to our team.
Killing off redshirts just to tell the audience that “oh ya, this kitten is getting serious and there’s a lot of danger about” is as old and trite as the term “Red Shirt” suggests and is independent of the character’s gender.
Hell, go back and look at how many times they pulled this in the personal story. It feels like someone dies every single time a quest takes place after you make it to Fort Trinity.
tldr, Belinda’s more a Red Shirt than a Woman in Refrigerator.

Almost everyone who damaged a person who dies gets rallied. Uplvls are easier to kill, often by a huge margin due to lower stats and less access to needed traits. Uplvls feed the enemy group and can lead to your team getting wiped because the enemy kept getting up.
In short, no one likes losing/failing because someone else kittened up and especially not when said kitten up was entirely avoidable.
I just want more 1h swords that can actually function as swords and don’t look like paddles or something that would break my wrist while being impossible to stab someone with it.

Whats with the absurdly thin grip on these two? They just float in the character’s closed fist they’re so thin. It’s a rookie modeling mistake at best.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Etched_Blade
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ceremonial_Sabre so sad because it’s a very nice sword but the grip is just hilariously bad and it looks even worse next to the ceremonial dagger which has an almost too thick grip.
Pretty sure the Tormented gear only got underwater weapons because it’s a set from GW1 that also featured a spear.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they tracked TP and vendor data and found that a very small group of people used tickets or bought water weps and decided it was enough to bother with the time it takes to design and model the gear.
They said that there were other small pet changes beside the bear F2’s, but didn’t show them. Probably because 5 minutes wasn’t enough time.
lol anyone want to speculate on whether they are going to bump up the cooldown of Hawk/Eagle F2 to kill the perma cripple builds we’re all salivating over?
It was probably meant to be far more than it ever became and Anet’s movement away from general RP content means they will probably never do anything more with it so they simply removed the whole thing from the Hero Menu to save UI space.
This kind of type invites scorn. Unless it’s mentioned somewhere, I would say it’s probably being worked on for later. A good example of permanently removing something from the game would be Raid on the Capricorn, it’s very much suggested in the patch notes that underwater PvP is no more.
Choosing to believe something for no reason at all is one’s own prerogative but when they don’t touch the system for over a year and the only thing they have down with it is remove the only way to track it, it’s completely reasonable to assume they aren’t going to do anything more with it.
It was probably meant to be far more than it ever became and Anet’s movement away from general RP content means they will probably never do anything more with it so they simply removed the whole thing from the Hero Menu to save UI space.
dons tinfoil hat
It’s a conspiracy to get you to buy costumes!
RtW on shortbow would be a dream come true.
If they made it work with Eagle eye as well it certainly would be. Or at least make up for the nerfs.
Wait a second, does this mean ranger finally has a ‘self stability’ utility? The passive heal, active grow bigger (signet of the wild?), + stability given to pet? That skill will now give stability to ranger? If so that makes my day… always dreamt of a decent stability on ranger.
It’s also a 25% damage boost. It lists a 50% movement increase but I don’t think that actually happens to you when you currently activate with SotB (question?).
That skill is definitely going to be showing up on my bar a lot. Especially if the build can fit in signet mastery.
I’ve heard lots of stories about speed boosts over the standard swiftness being somewhat buggy so it’s possible. I certainly never noticed a big increase though I almost always use it while in battle so it’s harder to tell.
The pickup boost from supply mastery in WvW works and is a good standard to test it against.
Rangers are going to get their butts kicked when the changes go live. They are going to remove/replace the 1 trait that makes them 1 of the top power classes.
Say good bye to 25% and 150%. I hardly believe 7% more damage on base attack added with attack speed will measure up to 150% longshot from max distance and 150% more damage with critical maul strike. Good bye pro rangers. welcome weak sauce rangers. Its going to be hard to battle with the other professions without signets affecting the player.
Aside from damage nerf, removing the trait also nerfs defensive signets.
Other professions ckittene invulnerability and immunity. without ranger trait signet of beastmaster, we rangers are stuck on soaking all damages and left with a single shout that gets your pet killed and stops it from attacking.
Removing/replacing that single trait made a new ranger, a weaker one. Less damage and more pew pew. Id rather hit hard than hit many times to add up to 1 hard hit.
lulwut? They are removing Beastmaster Signet and making signets work by default like everyone else’s.
[quote=4238182;Chrispy.5641:]
The dev’s really should rethink that Rapid Fire change. I swear they never test or play with maxed WvW specs. The initial burst from LB is going to too high.
But, I have two LB Ranger’s already soooo…. I guess I should be happy.
Too high against what? The total damage hasn’t changed and it never hit like a truck against anything other than a thief in full glass.
If anything this will make it respectable, no where near broken.
Condition bunkers and PVT zerglings will still mostly shrug it off like they always have.
It seems rangers are much better now with weapons compared to warriors.
When does warriors get a MOBILE and faster 100b.. (ofc some damage reduction also)
We are stuck on this pve weapon now for 2 years where all other classes get cheap 100b skills that are mobile/faster/range
Surely you jest?
Suck a lemon. Rangers have been in need of this update since the game’s release. We’ve been behind every other profession by a significant margin. Warriors have dominated this game. Even with these new improvements, rapid fire still won’t be as hard-hitting as 100b.
yes it does, you forget its only 2,5 casttime where 100b is like what 4sec??
Ah…
Entangle is a great improvement, but I worry it’ll force rangers to become entangle bots in WvW, which means I can’t bring Rampage as One. It’ll also make runes which trigger on elite more useful.
I would have loved to see a bigger change to Hilt Bash, so it won’t be so hard to hit with it.
Yes but now we ckittene wild signet for stability on a much shorter cool down. It’s a definite plus on all sides.
The only time where I would use RaO over wild would probably be when 2 map zergs clash but that is the exact wrong type of situation to use Entangle in so there’s not much of an issue that I can see.
kitten stands for can and use
A+ censorship Anet. Really swinging for the fence…

I will laugh at mesmers. Seriously. Unless they equip some serious boon removal/steal….. Constant Axe throwing at pinky, bouncing off phantasms and stuff will give us ridiculous might.
I can already see Axe BM builds. If Intimidation training doesn’t have ICD, Eagle BM Ranger… kitten just got real
I’d hold off the “____ on class X will destroy class Y” till all the videos are out.
Will be interesting to see how the other classes go… I don’t understand Engineers nearly enough to form an oppinion on how their changes look, but judging by their forum they seem happy but not hugely excited like we are :p
Well we are through the looking glass at this point so it’s entirely possible some of them either received buffs to underused things and won’t come out more powerful, just more flexible or they actually receive nerfs in an effort to level the playing field so to speak.
Time will tell, but this is probably the first time, in a long time, that I actually suspect Anet won’t “balance” by moving every piece forward 3 spaces when everyone’s at different points on the board and calling it a day.
Well after 5,022 hours on ranger and this is all ranger gets?
Rly? Apart from all these changes being pretty sweet, there are quite a number of them too. Don’t be so negative. I think this opens up some build variety. There are a lot of possibilities if you look past the longbow changes.
Yay you zerg runners will finally be able to sit in your zergs and be helpful. It doesnt change anything for spvp ranger. They will still get destroyed. This isnt anything to celebrate. Wait till all the other class buffs and changes come out and ranger will be right back in its useless spot.
These are all phenomenal changes. Still things left to be addressed but I had thought it would take the hand of god to get them to change the stupid BM signet trait.
And hey, maybe if Ranger becomes worthless crap in spvp as you predict, we’ll get even better buffs and they won’t have to be afraid of breaking spvp with them.
Meanwhile, Ranger gets to go from persona non grata in WvW to at least tolerable and that is a lot coming from anet. Predator’s Onslaught, Sic em, Entangle, no traiting for full stone signet, and the GS buffs are a big improvement for large scale combat.
I would prefer swoop dodge the whole duration so we could just cartwheel away from a fight but…
This has happened to me for months – almost a year – so it’s not due to anything that happened recently. Though it only occurs very rarely for me.
It’s been around since launch but happens so rarely and for, I’m assuming, so many different reasons, Anet has never really been very proactive about it.
Take away the builds from Guild Wars 1 and what do you have? I play Guild Wars 2 worrying a whole lot less about builds and it gives me a freedom I like. It’s a different kind of game.
Having that kind of build variety here would kill a lot of the freedom. It certainly did in Guild Wars 1.
lulwut? GW2 is just as much about builds as GW1. No one wins spvp tournaments by slap dashing together random traits and utilities. They win by using very specific combos. The same goes for pve speedclears and wvw zerg fights. You think anyone is going to win with a team of zerker axe rangers in spvp or a wvw zerg that doesn’t use a hammer train?
Even UW/FoE could be beaten with random pug builds if you didn’t care about clearing it any time soon or with DP under 45%. The only stuff in GW1 that absolutely needed specific builds/team comp to do is DoA and GvG/HoH.
The only difference in the two is GW1 was about giving people tons of ways (but only couple good ones) to play 1-2 roles per class where GW2 gives you the option of playing virtually every possible role per class but only 1-2 ways to maximize that classes ability.
They both give the illusion of choice but revolve around a small pool of “correct” choices.
(edited by Substance E.4852)
These always make me cringe. They will “buff” something, which won’t be the right thing then they will ninja nerf something good.
Someone hold me.
We thought that Beastmasters Bond was really lacking for power builds so it also gives swiftness, but we nerfed the rangers power scaling because LB builds were too stronk.
They normally are on that level of facepalm…
Or…
“We feel that Rangers evade to much, so we’re removing evade on sword/dagger, We’re allowing Pigs to Take 1 hit for the ranger though once every 45 Seconds though.”
Just as long as it’s put in as one of the RNG pig items so we can have “team support!”
They will “buff” something, which won’t be the right thing then they will ninja nerf something good.
The song of our people…
Why does everyone hate on mounts.
1. There freaking awesome
2. It would implement features for riding them like different Swing styles/moves
3. They could make the game more fun haveing to actually spend the time riding around the world more to find stuff not just way point there after you’ve only been there once4. You have the broom from the gem store. There’s your mount.
You haven’t provided a single good reason there why mounts should be implemented into this game.
I’m just going to give you a second to try to recognize what you did….
