Fix tempest!

I’d rather have them fix/buff weapon skills than buffing just Tempest.

Dagger

  • Water auto needs a damage buff
  • Earth auto needs more bleed. Right now Ele only has Burning since bleed on weapon skills has too few stacks
  • Churning Earth needs to have an option to detonate early by tapping on it again

Scepter

  • All the auto attacks need a buff, especially the Air one

Warhorn

  • Lightning orb needs a huge buff on damage
  • Overall skill should cast faster with less aftercast animation

Staff

  • Restore the visual on Fireball
  • Air #2 needs a reduce on cast time, or make it instant cast with delayed activation.
  • Earth #2 needs to apply bleed every second

Best PvP Warhorn Build?

Warhorn doesn’t need much buffing. For me, the only thing most people agree that needs the most attention is lightning orb damage. They need to buff it at least 50% to be anywhere near useful. It has a lot of counterplay, including just dodge/walk forward. The damage needs to be a lot more.

I queue with 2 thieves yesterday and we did fine. It’s a different mentality than jumping directly into a fight. Vault can deal an absurd amount of damage so you can gank people well in SH if your team can chain CC. Obviously, a Reaper or Herald is a bit more easier to play due to them having both the damage and sustain, but Thief has unmatched mobility. Especially in SH, there is no point to stand on, so it actually opens up a lot more build for Thief.

Solutions that would work for both side (and hopefully easy to implement):

  • be able to queue anywhere except in an instance.
  • if the user uses a waypoint or map portal, kick them and their party out of the queue.
  • [optional] print a system message to their chat log saying “your queue is cancelled because you changed map
  • [optional] pops up a dialog before the user uses the waypoint, and make them confirm that changing map will cancel their queue
  • [optional] [last resort] make it so that only people at rank 20 and up can queue outside of HotM. You can make it rank 80 too if you think rank 20 can still make build mistake.

Beside that

  • 30s time to accept queue is good enough, no need to change. Changing it won’t fix anything. There will still be people with wooden PC that takes a minute to load. Or if they never download the map and needs to download it. The real solution is above.

We can also make a new HotM Reward Track. Upon finishing it, the player can start queuing outside HotM. This prevent new players from making newbie mistake while queuing outside it. They won’t even know it exists unless they look for it, so no accidental queues either.

If you want to do 5 def, you will never win vs a decent team. They won’t die easily, and your lord will get caught in all the AoE. Even if they die, they can keep coming back. Basically, your team is stuck in the lord room forever vs a decent team, with a risk of instantly losing if your lord happen to be downed during a burst.

Here is a mini guide:

  • don’t try to 5man rush the offense lane. That works in low MMR but will lose you the game vs decent opponents
  • use the treb. It’s the difference between decent teams and the rest.
  • when the heroes spawn, drop everything and make sure your team get the heroes. It’s for the points, not because you get a hero.
  • positioning is important. Remember, you don’t have to stay on any point, so don’t try to 1v3 if not needed.
  • don’t do 4 defense in lord when they push with 5. Have the last person go spawn DB for a counter attack instead. If you try a 5v5 def in your lord room, you will lose eventually anyway.

HUGE Dishonor System Issue

I think a 2m grace period is good. 1m like right now is too short. I have a good computer with an OC 4.9GHz cpu, and 1TB SSD, and it still take me ~40s to go from a full restart to back into the game. I can imagine most people would take longer than that.

On the other hand:

  • please fix it so that launching gw2 while you’re in a match loads directly to the match instead of having the 2 map loads through HotM.

I totally agree with Power. I’m a very long time PvP player (play PvP too much that I didn’t even have map completion after 3 years). And I think there should be a better way to handle this rather than sacrificing overall experience to appeal to new players.

Why can’t they make it so that it only applies to other people’s skill instead of the player’s character?

Also, the visual noise part is mostly the light. Most of the time the boss is burned bright with all the Guardian’s and other explosion skills. The fireball is just a minor part of it. Restore fireball and reduce the explosion instead.

Or a better idea: make the selected target always have a silhouette outlined during the fight. For example, a red silhouette border, with gradient inward. That way, you can still make out the boss action during boss fight.

I think it was with HoT or the trait system update. I get hit for almost 500 dmg retal ticks now.

Oh, I vaguely remember they make retal scale with power/condi or something like that. Too lazy to verify the source though :P

On topic, yes, the DH burst is a bit strong. Nerf their burst or the burst AoE, and increase their sustain damage.

I only run ele and also never use DS. It might be helpful to absorb the first try/condi burst and thus is helpful but it´s far from an autowin. I met an ele with it. First i wonderes if i can get him. His DS worked for the first 5-10 seconds …. Then i did hit him a bit harder and it was game over for him. Its an advantage and combined with strong condi clear anoying and an advantage against condi builds, but it will weaken you against power builds. And a condi build in sinister would propably never notice that the ele has DS … I use a mix of dire + rabid + giver and break it easily.

+1 For the first 5 seconds or so, it’s a mind game of making him waste his heal. Then after that it’s GG for the DS Ele. 1.7k damage is so easy to come by.

Earth 5 sucks precisely because of the long cast time, and people hardly use it.

Air Overload is fine. Fire needs longer burn. Earth needs more bleeding. Water needs to give Invul during the Overload.

4 sec invuln on 20 sec cd? No ty.

Engi has the same on a 16s cooldown? Also note that it’s not even on demand. You need to anticipate that you need an Invul 5s ahead of time. Then camp in water with no damage waiting for that moment.

Water Overload as it is right now is very weak. It heals for like 500 per second, and any auto attack can cut through that. Using Water Overload in a PvP fight is actually a net loss, and will make you die faster. It’s a 4 seconds of “interrupt and kill me” sign since it has nothing to make the enemy to back off. Air Overload is actually better for healing since it may make people to back off.

You may think that a 4s Invul with Water Overload is OP, but it’s not. It can’t even cleanse condi fast enough. A Reaper can surely apply more condi than 1 per second.

P.S: and it’s 25s cooldown, not 20s.

Sorry deception but you are wrong saying that its a l2p issue and that diamond skin is far from OP vs a condi class….everything being equal (player skill wise etc) they are immune, can’t be killed thus the ppl complaining. You can argue that its fine to HAVE to call for someone to help OR simply to not run a condition build but making you immune to conditions and unable to be killed by a pure condition build is OP. Argue as ya like whether it is acceptable or needs to be changed.

Sorry, If you can’t even deal 1.7k damage before you spam your condi, how do you think you’re on an equal skill with your opponents? Perhaps, you’re overestimating your skill?

Without DS, the Tempest build would be a joke in PvP. Right now most people would rate it at below average, only higher than Berserker.

If you can’t even break through 10% of a Tempest, it’s really your issue. Even on my condi Reaper, I could do it easily.

It shouldn’t take ping into account directly. It already accounts for it indirectly through your match result. Having a high long? Lose more, and your MMR goes down, giving you easier games.

MMR should be reset for league. The Abjured and other competitive players should win and go up in tier quickly.

If they don’t reset the MMR, it’s unfair for The Abjured because even if they queue solo, will have the 8+ minutes queue. Other decent players with low MMR will go up in league first, while the Abjured stuck farming the low league people (since they can only have like 3 matches per hours, not fast enough to escape lower league). The end result is bad for both veteran and newbies.

Resetting the MMR for League will make the first hour chaotic, but after that everything settles in place much faster.

Just get the amulet, rings, and accessories. It takes no gold, just laurels and a few guild missions. You can even reduce the costs furthermore by spending a few hours in WvW.

After that, forget the ascended armors. Without it, you’re like 2% weaker than a full ascended player. It’s so insignificant that there is no need to be upset about it. You can even laugh at the people who spend a fortune on the ascended armors. Most of the stats are from the trinkets.

If you use the Fire Overload as frequently as possible, you have about 10% dps increase over the normal non Tempest glass staff.

If you use the Air Overload as frequently as possible, you lose about 10% dps over the normal glass staff.

Now can we get back to discussing how to make 1v1 not last longer than 2 minutes?

From my experience, 1v1’s generally don’t last longer than 2 minutes unless said players are both tanky, both hybrid, or are so equally skilled that they can’t gain ground on eachother.

And that’s why we need to buff sustain damage and nerf the extreme bunker. Bunker fights are boring fights.

Your reading comprehensive skill needs quite a lot of improvement. Let me spell it out for you, again. Copy/pasted from my earlier post:

What I want is a meta that people die faster, but not extremely fast. Time to kill should be between 5s – 60s for a 1v1, with 5s being a matchup between a pro vs a below average player. And 60s being a match up for both pro players. Read my tenets above for better definition.

Despite the post above, you continue to strawman on the unwarranted assumption that I want a bunker meta:

Now we apply your nerfs
1) DH would be 7 burst, 7 dmg and 5 sustain
2) Scrapper would be 6 burst, 6 dmg and 6 sustain

With these numbers you have a boring snoozefest where players poke at each other for several mins…..until you fell asleep; extreme builds exist to create….extreme situations that require quick thinking from the team to overcome them; your suggestions would slow down everything to a point where nobody ever die and the team with more condi pressure wins mid and hold

Why does it need to be 7-7-5 and 6-6-6? Why can’t it be 8-8-4, and 7-8-5?

You just try to cherry pick number to make it feel like I want to make a bunker meta, despite the fact that I stated that multiple times, in both my tenets and in various posts here, that I don’t want that. In your own words, you even admit that a DH can one shot another bunker. Go back and read it. If you want to spin it to blame the victim, at least be clever to not eat your own words. And it will keep continue until ANet changes the balance philosophy to be less extreme. Look at the trend, most people complains about the extremes:

  • OMG <some class> one shot me
  • OMG <some class> is too hard to kill

What ANet needs to do is to reduce the burst, and add more sustain for those cases. Bunkers also need a reduce time to kill across the board. Until then, we will keep seeing QQ posts on the forums. People complain about the things they feel frustrating/confusing/unfun. We need to fix that.

Thanks for a more coherent post with actual substance.

Now let me clarify a few things:

  • The Cele Ele meta was a bunker meta. It needed to get nerfed, and it did get nerfed. Any meta that allows bunkers to poke it each other for 2 minutes and no one dies needs to be nerfed. That’s not fun, and that’s in my tenets above. At least the Cele meta was still better than a pure bunker meta since they still do some damage. People gonna die after a while (just really boring to play/watch).
  • The June patch meta was a damage meta, not a bunker one. Even a Cele Ele at that time couldn’t stay alive for more than a minute. ANet nerfed damage a few weeks after that, and the meta turned to more and more bunkerish. That’s the sad turn we should try to revert.
  • What I want is not a Cele meta. What I want is a meta that people die faster, but not extremely fast. Time to kill should be between 5s – 60s for a 1v1, with 5s being a matchup between a pro vs a below average player. And 60s being a match up for both pro players. Read my tenets above for better definition.

Do you seriously think that somebody should be allowed to throw whatever in his build and go fight equally against somebody who use a build optimized for a specific encounter?

No, not equally, but the difference should be at most 20% lower effective, instead of being totally useless. For a well balanced game, the best top effective build shouldn’t outclass the worst build by more than 33%. If that happens, the fun factor is removed.

You seem to know Ele well, so let’s talk about Ele. Some people really enjoy the concept of Conjures. However, Cantrips is too effective, taking conjures will make you almost useless in a fight. Hence, conjures never see the light in a tournament. The same for P/P thief and other builds.

An example of what ANet did right:

  • Guardian was only good at Bunker. It was too good at bunker. Teams used to have at least one for it since you could basically hold 1v2 forever.
  • ANet buffed sustain damage for Guardian, allowing them to play a DPS role.
  • They nerfed a bit of sustain for bunker, and buffing the DPS of other classes. Now bunker Guard can stand a 1v2 for about max 2 minutes. Which is about the right balance.

What we really need for GW2 is something like that. Scrapper bunker should be reduced. DH burst damage should be reduced. DH sustain damage should be greatly increase. Engi damage should be increase a bit. Basically, bring the extreme closer, so we can reduce a lot of unfun factors of the gameplay:

  • 1v1 for more than a few minutes is unfun/boring to play/watch
  • 1v2 for more than a minute is extremely unsettling to watch. If it’s 1v2, then the guy had a wrong rotation, or that his teammate doesn’t back him up well enough. The guy should die; not too quick, but should die in less than a minute.
  • Sudden death is confusing/unfun to play/watch. If the audience can’t even tell why a player is dead, it’s very hard for them to enjoy watching the game. All the stealth burst/one shots like this needs to be nerfed and compensated by giving them more sustain damage.

Basically, the extreme bunker/burst meta you’re defending is the root cause of why you keep seeing so many posts QQ about the games, across classes. For the majority of people, excluding us elites, the game is unfun/confusing/sometimes boring. The audience can’t apply simple rules like “oh, that guys is about to face a 1v2, he’s in trouble!” since the guy may survive for more than a minute. The spectator camera can’t focus on a single fight like that for more than a minute, so the audience lose context, confuse, and don’t find it’s interesting to watch.

What we need is a less extreme balancing policy, so that the game is more fun, and we can see less QQ posts on the forums. The icing on the cake is that casual players can play their own non-meta builds and don’t have to feel like they are useless.

Before I start, let me copy/paste my Tenets for a fun/not boring to watch games:

  • 1v1 should never last more than 3 minutes
  • 1v2 should never last for more than 1 minute
  • 1v3 should die as soon as invul/block wear off.
  • burst should never kill another class in less than 5s.

There is no extreme bunker or burst just the wrong player with the wrong build at the wrong place.

You’re in a cute denial. It’s like people have to spell out for you how bursty a thief/mesmer/DH is, or how bunky a scrapper/tempest/druid could be.

-there is no “druid holding vs 2” but there is “2 sustain/bruiser vs druid”; there the druid is doing his job..you on the other hand are not, bunker build is made to hold but it’ll fails vs 2 burst builds and this is a fact

There is a whole rotation concept behind all this, so much to say that I’d need a whole blog page, but fact remains that there is no extreme bunker…just poor rotations or wrong builds or a combination of both

Where is the fact? All I see is talking points, lol. You keep repeating that bunker build will fail vs 2 burst builds, and I want to see how you back it up, lol. How long does it take your 2v1 to kill a bunker scrapper/druid/herald?

-there is no “DH one shot me” but there is “I don’t know my profession and I completely lack map awareness”.

If you’re getting one shotted by DH then:
1) Your build is squishy and you’re bad at positioning
2) Your build is tanky..but you don’t know how to dodge or what to dodge

You basically prove that extremes exist in this game. I don’t think you even realize you’re going against your arguments with your typing, lol. You even admit that DH can one shot other people.

And I don’t even know what to say about custom/meta builds..I just have different ideology, I don’t follow the crowd that’s why I win, I won’t stay here explaining this in detail so feel free to run your meta build with predictable tactics and keep losing

People are discussing why PvP is not fun/frustrating because it’s too extreme. You swooped in and throwing strawman around that people are losing because of meta build. The argument is cute and childish at best.

People want to make non-meta builds more viable; that’s why they ask for a less extreme environment where you can be somewhere in the middle and not extreme burst/bunker. Your poor reading comprehensive skill makes you think people are asking to run meta builds? lol. You’re basically in agreement with the one you’re trying hard to disagree.

P.S and for last time, I don’t care to win any debate on a forum, I will keep telling people to L2P where is needed, I just dislike people who think that any problem can be solved by crying like a baby; people should actually learn to adapt rather than come here whining every time their copy/paste build fails

The result? Newbies are constantly dying to burst builds and they can’t take down the bunker builds either. To them, it’s a frustrating experience, and that’s why you will never see an end to QQ about the extreme builds (DH that can burst you in 2s, or Druid that refuse to die 1v2)

As long as GW2 doesn’t close the gap between extreme bunker and extreme burst, we will continue to hear people QQ about it. They just couldn’t find the right words to explain their frustration, and it looks like they are QQing about random build.

You have it all wrong..it’s with practice that you “close” the gap not by expecting the devs to hold your hand all the way.

Can you clarify your position with logical arguments instead of just saying “you’re wrong”? I basically ignore your comments lately because you offer nothing to the discussion.

The reason why people run meta burst builds or meta bunker builds is because no other custom build works. Play the way you want? Nope, builds that are not extreme will have a hard time in this meta. Read my tenets for a fun PvP experience, and tell me what tenet you disagree with.

And before you tell me to l2p or attempt to insult me, I was top 50 of both soloq and teamq before the patch. Saying that to avoid a pointless discussion because someone might think degrading the opponents makes them win the debate.

I’m a full glass Ele and I have no issues with smokescale/raptor or whatever you think should be nerfed. Please don’t drag down the game. We need fun challenges. Even with 12k HP, one dodge can save your life from a smokescale, and one lavafont is enough to kill it.

Cele / sentinels auramancer tempest, is by far the most insane bunker atm.

Lol he is. Unless you count thing like “Overload Water and heals for 300hp per second” as impressive.

Druid and Herald outclass Tempest by far for survivability.
