Tempest: Bunker alone or Team Support?

Obviously teamfight. They have a lot of AoE support.

For 1v1, there are multiple classes including Scrapper and Druid that can kill them. In low MMR matches, Tempest can kill bad players 1v1, but it can’t kill any decent players with those wet noodle hits.

Only bunker 1v1 if you already have the point.

There are so many builds that can beat a DS Tempest, ranging from favorable matchups like Scrapper, Druid to less favorable ones like power Rev/hybrid Reaper (you need to be as good as the Tempest).

The ones who complain about DS are the low MMR ones that expect to win every thing using their condi spam without power/rotation. And it’s not like they will die to a full bunker Tempest anyway (if they die to those wet noodle hits, they have no right to complain)

You have a rune/trait that does something on heal, which happens to be coded in a way that activates Shocking Aura, which interrupts your heal. For example, Ele water swap has no damage but actually activate on hit (clear aegis).

With staff you will die horribly to a good DD or Scrapper. The animation/cast time is too slow, making it unable to react to fast attacks/interruptions.

Are you talking about 1v1 wise? Why would you try to kill a bunker 1v1? You can’t. He can’t kill you either. However, if you want to pressure him into losing the node then scrapper would be your best bet.

Because it’s not only about 1v1. Chrono bunker made the whole team invulnerable (low cooldown) while pumping out tons of quickness and alacrity.

Tempest can be focus fire and die easily in a team fight.

Plus, you can never get the chrono bunker off the point with perma Stability. You literally have 0 chance of decapping a point.

And then Chronobunker also has massive amount of AoE CC, on low cooldown.

Scrapper can totally force the Tempest to lose a point.

Beside that, you shouldn’t fight a Tempest on a capped node anyway. If it’s your point, you win, the Tempest hits like a wet noodle and can’t kill you. If it’s neutral, you win, the Tempest can’t support the big team fight, and can’t cap you. If it’s enemy capped, what the kitten you’re doing there with a bunker?

I agree nothing is going to change for bunker Mesmer. 1v1 you are still immortal. And the amount of quickness/alacrity you can pump out in teamfight is amazing.

I agree that the current meta is definitely not where the game should be, but what annoys me is that no more than a month ago after the expansion launched, people were screaming bloody murder that the current meta was a burst meta and that people lasting less than 10 seconds was bad. Now the meta has evolved into a bunker meta and the complaint is the polar opposite. It just goes to show that the hoi polloi never knows anything and thus most feedback here can be safely disregarded.

It’s better to wait and see where the meta goes and make incremental changes at best.

Only in the low MMR bracket that people complain about the burst. People in the high MMR bracket have the polar opposite.

I warned about this extreme bunker problem a while ago, but no one took it seriously.

Just like I warned about the tanking MMR problem 4 months, and no one took it seriously.

My only hope now is that they won’t swing the meta too hard to extreme burst, since that’s bad too.

Tempest as a class has loads of offensive presence
The issue is it can only do one thing at a time. You can repeatedly overload air and do bucketloads of damage, probably more than any other class, but if you want to overload water, you basically have to commit to doing no damage for 9 seconds.

Dude, let’s have a bet. I’ll get my zerker Rev auto attack, and you keep on Overloading Air. My zerker Rev has more DPS for sure.

Changing Water Overload

Honestly, I don’t feel they should change the base effect of the water overload like a lot of people want(like giving it a bigger/faster heal) because that would be far too much healing on the tempest. People already claim bunker tempest is op, however it should be normalized to match the other overloads by having some sort of field when finishing it. I love the idea of a chill ice field or even a water field would be nice since you could then blast it yourself

Yah, that’s why I didn’t ask for more heal but for more damage/debuff. Tempest doesn’t need more heal. What it needs is damage because even a Marauder Tempest can barely dent any bunker while dying to a Rev like a fly. Giving fire/earth Overload more burn/bleed should help with that, and also make condi Tempest a bit more viable.

Thank you! I hope ANet will keep this iterative approach and give us a balance patch every 4-6 weeks. It doesn’t need to be a complete and long patch. It can be just like this, number tweaks for a few broken things. Then they can additionally shake up the meta before each League.

Are you doing these changes to PvP / WvW only or is PvE again getting randomly nerfed because balancing PvP is apperantly more important than PvE ? Rev nerf is unnecessary for PvE although i was expecting the mesmer nerf.

Balancing for PvP and WvW is definitely more important than in PvE. It is for the general health of the game. That’s a fact.

I’m running a rather beefy CPU overclocked to 4.9GHz, and it’s still CPU bound. I’d say don’t spend your money and instead just save up for something else. Unless you somehow can get a 6GHz CPU, I’d say you won’t see much improvement with GW2.

(or somehow you convince ANet to update their engine to something less CPU bound.)

They should all receive a 72h dishonor. It’s manipulating MMR, and it’s against the Code of Conduct. ANet should punish them. It’s very easy to check in the match history.

Haven’t tried a d/d since the update. But with my glass staff build (not tempest) I don’t usually die even once in a game. The new meta has a lot of close range pressure, but if you position properly there are few meta builds that can properly pressure you. With less thieves around, I am often uncontested. It still doesn’t work too well due to the fact that I can’t really go on point, and the team I’m on is often only winning at whichever point I’m at and losing the other two points. The damage pressure of a arc/air/fire staff ele with zerker amulet is crazy. Glad the current meta can barely deal with it. I do miss downing a whole team on a point, but that meta has passed, everyone is tanky enough to get off point or die.

I played glass staff a lot too. What funny is that the opponents usually just ignore me. Some even runs pass me without attacking since they think I’m a bunker Tempest. Nevertheless, as soon as you face a decent Rev with his 5s 1200 range teleport + chill, you’re over.

Yep, the bruiser D/D cele Ele no longer works. After the nerf, it doesn’t have the damage to kill a new HoT bunker (Mesmer/Druid). And it doesn’t have the sustain to survive Rev/DH/Reaper.

Even the amount of boons it gives to the team is subpar to a Rev. I still play D/D Ele sometimes just because I miss the active playstyle, but I have to admit only noob would die to a cele D/D Ele now.

Bunker mesmer is fine. They just need to make some of the invul from Mesmer removes point capture contribution. It makes no sense to spam invul and still keep the point.

The Anet devs are in the same guilds and queue with all of these top players all the time so don’t expect anything to be done. These guys have the Anet devs in their pocket.

For real? I hope the same ANet dev doesn’t do this with the shameful people above. Manipulating MMR from a newbie is bad, but it’s understandable. Manipulating MMR from a top team? They should be ashame. I lost my respect for all the players in the first screenshot.

PZ should be banned from future Pro League for this cheap behavior. They do not deserve to represent NA as a top team. Too many abuse from them, from manipulating MMR to spam the leaderboard. I hope a dev takes a look at this.

Yea, buff a profession that can basically ignore all damage and still have tons of damage output.

Why not just delete all the other professions and just keep ele?

You do realize all eles play complete bunker because that’s pretty much the only thing left that is viable at them moment. It’s Anet that decided to make us bunker healing bots, it’s not what we wanted.

+1 since the days of D/D Ele, a lot of people have been asking ANet to buff the innate survivability of weapon skills and reduce our reliance on traits (means nerf the defensive traits). Right now Ele has nothing left beside playing as a bunker. Nerf that and Ele is out.

Have you seen a glass staff Ele lately? I’m one of the fews that still play it in this Meta. It’s unviable if you face any decent team. A Rev/DH/Chrono/DareD can hunt you down and you basically has zero defense. Yes, without traits we have zero defense.

Anyway, I don’t think Ele needs a big buff. Mostly just tweak to bad skills, like Scepter auto, and Lightning Orb. I’d rather Ele not be buffed so much so people don’t start complaining.

For soloq it’s Reaper and Scrapper if you don’t want to depend on your teammates at all.

Here are the popular classes ranked by team-dependence:

  1. Scrapper is D/D Ele 2.0, with improvements. It is tanky with a lot of damage.
  2. Reaper if you prefer more damage and a tiny bit less tanky.
  3. DH if you play on a map with small capture points and squishy opponents.
  4. Rev if you see the opponents have squishies or have a lot of condi. Rev also have superior mobility and can decap/1v1 very well against squishies.
  5. Tempest if you prefer to support your team. It’s like Bunker Guard 2.0, without block, but more cleanses.

We really appreciate it when we see a reply from the Devs. Please use this thread/post as a proof and let your management knows that the players want more interaction from the devs!

At least, discuss with us on how you plan to fix stuffs, so we can tell you up front whether it will work, so you don’t have to implement something that may turn out to be broken.

Yes, tanking MMR method only carry people so far, but it is enough to damage the Amber League, and make PvP lose a lot of players. That’s why we still need to encourage people to do it responsibly if they decide to do it anyway.
