We also looked to normalize elementalist damage and healing a bit more, as their overall potential to do both at the same time was considerably higher than was healthy for group compositions.

They only meant PvE. In PvE, a zerker Ele has the top damage (due to hit boxes size) and top healing for teammates (due to stacking so easier to max wash the pain away).

Basically, they didn’t have any regards to PvP at all when they stated that. It doesn’t matter that in PvP Ele was just heal bot. PvE is more important to the balance team (especially when the balance lead couldn’t even solo Svanir on a HoT Ele)

To all the people predicing disaster from this change:
The reason why I waited for a while to post this is to make sure Overwatch achieves a successful status first. It’s a proof that this suggestion will improve the health of gw2 pvp. In Overwatch, you not only can change the class, you can even change it without dying too. No one complains on that. Even more, people loves it, and it has become one of the best features of a PvP oriented game.

Don’t be too conservative. PvP is dying, and we need to try a radical new deal to fix it. (Beside putting the balance team under the PvP team of course—under a few months after released, Overwatch has had more balance patch than gw2 had this year! With explanation and PTR too!)

Gw2 pvp has it’s issues, but personally I think the ability to swap class and tinker with build pre-game is good enough. TBH having played Overwatch, I’m not a fan of changing champs on death. Seems to encourage alot of jack o’ all trades kinda players. I’d much rather play with someone who knows there class and mechanics inside out.

Why is it a bad thing that a player can play multiple classes?

Also, I don’t even advocate for people to be able to change their class. I’m only asking for them to be able to change the build. If you’d rather play with someone who knows their class inside out, this is exactly the thing you ask for: a teammate who knows their class well enough to change their build/playstyle and adapt to new situations.

AoE is Excessive in this Game

In Spvp, pre-hot people would come and actually stump the down target. Now, most people just use their AoE to attack the down target and any revivers.

People don’t stomp not because AoE is strong, but because Stab is meaningless. A Rev staff #5 can strip multiple stacks if not all. Boon corrupts and boon steals are everywhere. Even a 10 stacks of stability is not a guaranteed stomp anymore. Stomping is a big risk (unless you have invul). That’s why people like to AoE the area more. At least you don’t lock yourself out of a heal.

They add a bunch of interrupt skills for PvE vs bosses. They didn’t think about PvP for balance.

Gosh, it’s just an example. Just replace it with the example you like. The point is, gw2 PvP is full of hard counters like that. For example, Ele reflect can counter a power ranger/DH very well. It’s bad to have the fate of the match predetermined before even the first fight. Let people change their builds after they are dead.

You can see the classes before the game starts, part of the strategy is to know what they are likely to be running and prepare for that. If you see classes that typically run condi builds then change your build before the match starts to counter that

You see the opponents have 5 necro, so you swap in your Ele, put on heavy condi cleansing, Magi amulet, and ready to win!

It turns out they have 4 power necro + 1 condi necro and kill your no-toughness Ele in a few hits whenever you show up to the teamfight or 1v1 or 2v2.

You have lost the game before even the first fight. If you’re lucky and they are 5 condi necros, you won even before the first fight. This suggestion brings the fun and build diversity back to PvP.

Hi all, just one of my last all-is-vain effort to make PvP more fun.

Overwatch allows the players to swap char after death to react to the new situations. It creates a very fun and engaging games. Got killed by a Junkrat? Switch to Pharaoh. See their Ana sniping from afar? Switch to Dva to push.

In gw2, you picked a rev, run in, and suddenly see the entire enemy team are heavy condi. You can just hang up the mouse there. The fate of the match is mostly determined even before the first fight.

Now if you allow people to switch build (not switch character), it will allow for a much better match. Killed by condi? Bring more condi cleansing. Your condi necro got countered? Swap to a hybrid or power necro to catch them off guard!

Bonus points: implement build template so people can switch builds quickly after death.

Season 4 Ranked Matchmaking Change

I’ve made legendary previous seasons solo/dou que.This season I can’s get out of saphire with 50% win rate and about 80 games played. Its not saphire games I play its diamond/legendary previous seasons. And I have to w8 for these games twice as long as average que time.Have no idea what did you do with matchmaking. I am mad atm so kitten you Anet.

The rage is real.

Why do people continue to say “Season is worse than prev please fix” when there’s obviously less hate QQ threads in this season compared to previous?

Because the majority of the people who cared, who voiced, already quit? What’s the point of posting more threads when you already moved on? Obviously, the number of those threads declines. I only troll around now anyway.

+1, Ele is still being used in PvE. It’s still top tier, and it will be nerfed.

The balance team doesn’t play PvP.

The PvP team will try to add an amulet to help Ele, but it turns out another class will make use of that amulet better, and we’re gonna be bad for another season. Usually it takes a year for them to fix a class.

so whatever i play pvp i lose a lot, i got 11 loses 3 wins on this ranked season
i dont play pvp much and im noob, i tried play unranked and it was worst than ranked
is there any skill balance or just random skill players ?

Unfortunately, since the game balance is completely gone, build matter more than anything else.

Take a “net” META build.

Like you find on metabattle.com.

Then train that build for 2 or 3 hours in hotjoin (don’t play cap, simply try to kill people).

Then do some unranked until you feel confortable with where to GO.

Then rank queue will get better for you.

Sorry… BUILD > Skill in this game. Sad, since it was Skill > Build before the june 2015 patch.

It will be just the same old excuse “Ele has double the amount of weapon skills, so we need to make all the skill half as good as other classes’ skills

And they will conveniently forget that it’s not about how many skills you have. It’s about how many things you can do within a time frame. Within 10s, there’s just enough time for you to cast n number of skills. It doesn’t matter whether you have 100 skills or 5 skills. It’s better to have 5 good skills to use in that 10s than 100 bad skills. 10s is more than enough for any competent player to down an Ele anyway.

They easy with any other profession.

You should try to solo Svanir too. If you can kill it and the Chieftain, you’re better than some of ANet balance team!

What killed PvP was the balance. Everything else is just a manifestation of the unbalance.

The PvP team realize that, and they have been trying to balance the mode on their own, by manipulating the only things they can (sigils, amulets, runes).

The balance team led by Karl basically just give a giant finger to the PvP team and decide that PvE balance is more important than PvP balance.

That happens for 4 years, and here we are. I don’t have hope that they will put the balance team under PvP. So I don’t have hope in PvP either. Overwatch is where I spend my time and money now.

Removing Amulets will NOT Solve the Problem [Merged]

Dear ANet devs, whatever you’re thinking about to fix the balance situation, please don’t consider adding Cele and Cleric back to PvP. Ele needs to be balanced in a way that it doesn’t need to be carried by bunker amulets in PvP.

It’s fine if Ele becomes the bottom tier class this season. People are starting to realize how Ele was pigeonholed into bunker/support roles because nothing else worked. This is why we need to keep Cleric and Cele out of PvP, so the real balance team can actually fix Ele and give it some non-bunker builds that works.

The plus side is also that the fast pace games are more fun than the Cleric bunker ones. I agree with you on that

I open mid fight with Water too. People really underestimate the water regen buff that last 9s. Opening with Water in that fight means everyone in your team gets 1-2k HP “buff” for free. It’s amazing for morale since together with Water #5, it prevents your team from going into panic mode. People tend to put out a lot more pressure on the enemies if they feel their HP is in the safe zone.

I almost always wait for my teammate to jump on an enemy (or an enemy jump on my teammate) before I put Water #4/5 down on that fight. Most enemies panic when they feel the chill of Water #4. Then they realize their attack is not that effective because of my Water #5 on the fight. Your teammates also “accidentally” use your water field a lot of times (like Engi/Thief leap).

If the opponents also get hit with a Water #2, it’s almost 100% they will panic and start spamming their defensive/heal abilities. That’s perfect, since they will still have the chill (can’t cleanse Water #4 chill well since it reapplies every second). That’s your opportunity as a glass staff Ele to shine. Your job is to make sure they can’t heal faster than you deal damage to them. Let’s say they spend 1s trying to heal 5k. You should be able to deal 5k damage in 2s. When they realize their heal doesn’t really save them, they panic even more and play sub optimally (double dodge or spam defensive skills without thinking)

Your team should get the first kill, without you even switching to Fire yet if you’re lucky and hit the Water #2 burst. The water #2 delayed damage is actually a good thing here, since the opponent tend to dodge the first burst from your teammates. If they double dodge, they won’t have a dodge for water #2. The chill also helps.

If your team couldn’t kill, you can start sniping with Fire. Be prepared to execute your defensive combos if anyone jumps on you. Don’t jump in and try to Overload (if you have Tempest) unless that’s for cleaving a downed enemy (even then you have better options). Strictly stay outside and snipe. Also, if you can, try to time multiple skills so it “activates” at around the same time. For example, Fire #1 then Fire #3 while the fire ball is flying so they “hit” at the same time. Or Water #2 => Air #2. Burst is important.

If your team down one, that’s GG for you since you can put down a lavafont + Fire #5 on the down person. The common mistake is that people think because they are playing glass staff, they must stay in Fire at all time.

P.S: yes, the teleport range for Thief/Ele is the same.

  3. If you ever double dodge, you’re doing it wrong. When you’re under pressure, always use a defensive skill after you dodge before you dodge again.
  4. If you cast Air #5 with the enemy in the middle of the circle, you’re doing it wrong. Use it like Earth #4, use the edge.
  5. If you don’t know how to use LF well, then you can’t survive well either. Pop quiz: do you know how to teleport directly from the spawn path to inside the clock tower without climbing on any stair?
  6. If you can’t time reflect for Rev Sword #2, then you definitely need more practice before you can succeed with a glass staff Ele. Every time you use reflect, it should be timed to reflect a dangerous skill. Like, the keys of switching to Earth and press 3 should be a muscle memory.
  7. If you open combat or +1 in Fire attunement, you’re doing it wrong too.

I tend to not share these tips for selfish reason (I don’t want ANet to nerf Ele xD). But since I don’t play often anyway, so I’ll spill it out today

  1. The best attunement for +1 a fight is.. surprised: Water. If you +1 any fight, the common mistake is jump in with Air #5 or Fire #2 Fire #5. It’s 50% chance the case that your friend is losing the fight, and die before your damage/CC can even make any difference. Starting with Water gives you a lot of advantage while +1’ing the fight. First, select your teammate instead of the opponent. If they are low on health, immediately use Water #3. If the opponent is a condi spam user, you can follow up with Water #5. If your teammate is not very low on health, use Water #2 and Water #4 (then Water #3 if needed), then switch to Fire. When you’re in Fire, it depends on the location that you will place a Fire #2 or just skip to Fire #3 (small point = lavafont, out of point or running = Fire #3 for guaranteed hit). Then Fire #5 if needed. In summary, Water gives you the most versatile set of “replies” you can use when you do a +1
  2. The best way to learn the LF spot is to make a thief, and go short bow #5 all the map. You will learn it slowly by watching good players too. I would say most of the time I survive because of a good LF. Let’s say I count that a Thief that used shadow step and stealth on me. I can easily teleport to the roof of the clock tower and survive just fine, while raining Fire #5 on the point.
  3. People under use Fire #4 a lot. You gotta learn how to travel faster using it. Also, time it well right after the enemy teleport to you can have an amazing effect. A combo I tend to use a lot when I got chased by a Thief/Rev is Fire #4, Earth #4 in the middle of fire trail, then Earth #1. It’s almost a guaranteed weakness hit. At that point, I’d be waiting for the Rev to do Sword #2 and reflect it.

If you got to legendary using core glass staff ele then I guess its true that most of the skilled players have left pvp already. Forget dodging, blocks, teleports and invuls; most of the damaging staff skills can be avoided by simply walking out of it. Did they stand inside meteor shower and lava font or something? Staff ele was laughed at way before HoT and I can’t imagine it becoming any better with the HoT powercreep.

Lol. I’m sorry, but I was an Ele main before daphoenix popularized the classic D/D build. I was between top 20 and top 100 ranked before this “league” system was even a thing. Anyway, of course a lot of good players left. I don’t take the game seriously anymore, and only login here and there to check out new content. That doesn’t mean there is no one who can use a core glass staff. Read my original post again. I made it clear that if you can use glass staff before, this patch shouldn’t give you much trouble. I don’t say that this patch is good for Ele, but if you dismiss the core glass staff right away like that, your Ele gameplay is not perfect enough to comment.

For anyone looking to improve their glass staff gameplay: get a good friend and practice 1v1 with a D/P Thief. The goal is to be able to survive 1m with a D/P thief chasing you. When you can do that, that means your mechanics is good enough.

Hi guys, long time no see.

I know a lot of you are frustrated about the nerfs. Here are a few things to try, which works for me:

  1. Sage classic D/D might stack (Fire/Water/Arcane or Earth/Water/Arcane)
    Try Scrapper Rune and Leadership
  2. Marauder glass staff (Fire/Air/Water)
    I used this to get to Legendary before, so it’s not that bad. If you can out play people in previous season, it’s easier after this patch since there is not that much a nerf. Moreover, there will be less sustain, so if you can snipe well, the opponents will be in a loop of “omg -> try to heal -> can’t outheal your damage -> die”

A few things that you may want to try “less”

  1. Sustain Tempest
    Everyone is trying to make Tempest works now, but people have to realize that Elemental Bastion gets a -18.5% healing nerf, even with the highest healing power amulet in PvP. Shout heals gets a -20.8% burst heal nerf. If you want a sustain build, Water + Evasive Arcana is a better candidate now. Bonus point that it’s more fun to play.

If you start now, and get to Legendary for both S3 and S4, you will get it. Also, honestly getting to Legendary is not that hard. Just play strictly 3 games a day, regardless of win/lose.

Yup, they should have the -20% shout duration trait. Remember, taking the shout traits mean you won’t have access to the removing condition on Aura anymore. It allows for more build diversity without power creep for the healbot build.

League placement qualifiers was a much-needed addition to the league system.

No more “three stooges” at the beginning where everyone (good bad and in between) is clawing all over each-other trying to get out of amber.

Its not often I say this…. but someone over there at Anet is paying attention…. and he deserves a pat on the back for this one.

There are still many things to address about the league system…
…but this was definitely a step in the right direction.

there shouldve been MMR reset and everyone started at amber with 0 MMR.

but still better than last season so there’s that.

Or better yet, they should implement my full Pre-season suggestion (in the signature). I mentioned using MMR to do the placement, instead of league division (which could be farmed by grinders)

OMG, ANet decided to implement my suggestion! (although just half of it—but it makes me pretty happy xD).

At least now I don’t have to fight ambers at the start of the season. Now if they can let us queue outside of HoTM it would be great

Ground target is faster for me too. If you want to make it more useful, reduce the animation, not to lock it into a target.

Yes, condi is still everywhere.
Build diversity is still bad.

My advice? Come back when the balance team is moved to be a part of the PvP team. Right now, they are owned by the PvE team, and thus we can only dream about balance in PvP.

The devs need to recognize that balancing for PvP is 100x more important than balancing for PvE.

Marauder or Zerker ?

Zerker.

It might be hard at first, but it forces you to learn how to dodge and time skills properly. In the end, Marauder or Zerker, you would die in one boss hit at level 80+ fractal anyway. Zerker has more DPS, and makes the thing go faster.

Ele can be countered with Chill, but Druid can still be immortal in 1v1. Engi also has the immortal build too.

I’ll have to disagree on arcane skills. You’re arguing from a point of ‘defensive’ utilities, which is TOTALLY NOT what arcane skills are all about. And no, arcane skills are not meant for raw damage either.

I have no idea what logic you use to say the trait is fine to be slotted, by first glance even the most uninitiated MMORPG player will say that that trait is not even GM worthy. Adept Minor at best.

It’s 1 stack of burn, or 1s of immob. The lowest cooldown Arcane skill is 16s. Do you really think you would ever take a grand master trait that gives you a 1s immob every 16s? Not counting that you have to manage your attunement cooldown so you land in Earth every 16s.

Why would you ever pick a useless grandmaster trait like Elemental Surge? The trait might seem good on its own, but when you compare it to the other 2 grandmaster traits, it is is simply crap. That’s the whole thing with crappy and useless utilities. They might seem good on their own, but when compared to other picks, they are crap.

Exactly, and that’s the whole point of this thread. We need to buff the useless utilities/traits in Ele/Guard build. Ele signet/conjure/Arcane are all bads compared to cantrips or shouts. About 2/3 of the traits are bad too.

Can we have the tag pulses please.

Like, pulsing between the bright color and dark color every 0.5s. That way you can always spot it on the map if you want to have a quick glance.

It’s true that confusion is a strong enough condition on its own already. They just add the passive tick so people can PvE with condi mesmer. It’s a case that PvE balancing triump PvP balancing.

I strongly agree that Arcance Shield cd should be reduced. It does too little for it’s 75s cd.

Blinding Ashes needs a buff, but I’m not sure what’s the right buff.

Make it a 5 second icd. That way it will synergize with burning precision.

That’s an indirect buff for burning precision, which I think is well deserved.
