I just watched the first one. There are a few rotation mistakes here:
1) You rushed in at the beginning when you only have 1 teammate behind you. That’s usually the most common beginner mistake in rotation. Always count your number before jumping into a fight. In a 2v4 you will die 100% of time unless you are an ESL player (in which case I still doubt they can win 2v4 against the average players). It’s even worse that your other teammate is a Thief, who won’t be able to peel/heal you.
2) You tried to rez multiple times when you didn’t have skills to secure the rez (for example, knock the enemy out). If you don’t have those skills to secure the rez, then don’t rez it.
3) You don’t seem to be able to take advantage of the chain daze and block from Scrapper. Learn the leap daze combo and leap heal combo. Block from Scrapper is really OP.
4) At 8:10, you got stuck in the terrain. Learn the map so it doesn’t happen in the future.
5) You also stay in the red circles a lot of times. Positioning is very important. Just think that if you manage to stay outside of a red circle, you heal yourself 2k (random number).

People still believe there is a 50% win rate? There is no 7-7 distribution.
Correctly working matchmaking should give each player 50% win rate.
That’s the old league. The current one favor good players. If you’re good you can have 100% win rate during the first few weeks. Now if you think that’s not fun, then read the thread in my signature.

I think current system is way better than old one however they should have implemented qualification matches like in league. They go like this:
- there are 10 qualification matches that don’t affect your rating (yet) but you have to do them to get placement in leagues
- with each win you face better teams but also get better teams
- the more matches out of 10 you win the higher you get placed in divisionsBad players land in lower divisions, better players land in higher divisions and usually don’t see each other so much xD
I also think that not losing tiers is bad thing. I think if you have no pips in a tier and continue to lose matches w/o wins you should lose tier even in emerald and sapphire. Example: infamous Bob is in sapphire tier 3, has 0 pips, he loses 5 matches in a row, he gets moved to tier 2 in sapphire.
LIES, this system is WORSE than season 1. Look at the results. Queues are getting longer, league Day 1: instant-30 sec now………..Day 5: 3-4 min
Why is that? PEOPLE ARE QUITTING NEWBIES AND VETERANS ALIKE
You ELITISTS that got CARRIED to your wins by teaming up/class stacking need to wake up and smell the coffeeTHE SYSTEM HAS FAILED
Dude, I routinely got 20m+ queue with the last season. 3m queue is extremely good for me. The system could be improved (see my sig), but it’s definitely better than Season 1.

1) Start Elite players in a higher division. I have absolutely no problem if ESL level players start out in diamond or legendary.
2) Start people that are new to PVP in the bottom division. That way their “average” rating won’t match them with people that are experienced but have around a 50% win rate.
3) Spread the starting point for the other players by either where they finished last season or their MMR.
If you like to have elite players start in a higher division, up vote this:

Seriously, if played well, Scrapper can easily sustain 1v2 for a very long while, giving the team an edge in combat. Scrapper is the new D/D Ele 2.0, with a lot more buit-in CCs.

Honestly, that’s a very shallow way of thinking.
I’m a pretty shallow person. That does seem to be the argument made by people defending the current system though, “hey, I’m getting great teams and winning matches, so clearly there’s nothing wrong with the system.”
I don’t think that’s the point of this thread at all. Please read the original post again. It aims to help people like you. What else can I say when you don’t even understand that it helps you?

To “keep” a population high, you need it to be high to begin with. At this point they only need to focus on balance, balance, balance, pvp population is next to non existent.

What problems could even a small amount of seeding at the start of a division reset cause? You didn’t specify
…
Other minor problems that came to my mind:
- Determining who are veteran players. Should it depend on MMR or S1 League Position? Where is the cut-off?
- Handling the rewards for the first few tiers.

There are currently a few problems with the PvP Season
- There is nothing to do during off season
- Chaos match making during the first few weeks of the season
Suggestion: We should have a Preseason between PvP Season
- The Preseason will start as soon as the Season ends, and ends one day before the Season starts. This basically fill the gap between Season
- Matchmaking during the Preseason will use MMR. Match making during the Season will only use ladder ranking (no MMR).
- At the end of the Preseason, people will receive bonus pips based on their MMR. The amount should be tuned so the top players start around Emerald (for the very top players, they may get to Sapphire). The bonus pips will be applied at the start of the next Season, effectively bumps the top players out of Amber (all the rewards are still kept).
Benefits:
- This solves the chaos matchmaking at the start of the season where all the Legendary players farm Amber.
- This give people something to do during off season time, something to strive for. Since they will get rewarded at the end of the Preseason and get a minor head start on the next Season.
- This also improves the match making during the off season, since winning/losing now affect your MMR, and you want the best MMR for the head start of the next season.
- Keep your PvP population stable and high at all time instead of a big drop during the off season (and another drop because of the chaos match making at the start of the season).
I’d love to have a dev response on this suggestion. Thanks!

PvP gears in gw2 is already a split from PvE.
What they need is to improve useless traits/weapon skills to improve build diversity. Right now Ele has only one build, that is the healbot build. They need to buff Signet/Arcane/Glyph and more Shatterstone for it to be even borderline viable.

Okay, so 1% of the gw2 population get it within 2 seasons. What’s the problem, dear?
You can easily get it with 3 seasons. I see no problem with better players (who get to LX2+ last season) get their rewards sooner.
It’s a competitive league, dear.

The meta achievements are not meant to be completed in one or two seasons. Granded skilled players who reached Legendary last season and eventually reach Legendary division this season will eventually complete all 4 meta achievements. The achievements are the same, but the requirements gradually increase per tier. They are long term goals for players to pursued for titles and rewards.
Actually only need diamond this season.
then im out.
Then your doing the math wrong, its impossible to get the legendary back piece in 2 seasons withou getting legendary division twice
Wut? I think you’re misinformed.
I also only need Diamond this time to complete Year IV.

Sorry
Played a couple games yesterday. Got on a long win streak, but it only got us barely out of Amber. Which means we are still matched with some high pip Amber.
Rest assured, the majority of the LX+ players don’t want to farm Amber. We just can’t get out fast enough because it requires us to play like 10 matches even with win streak to get out. That means somewhere, someone got 10 losses.

Why start people at the average MMR? Because that’s where most players belong. It is the most accurate rating for the majority of players. For every player we start with a lower rating that needs it, there is a skilled player that has to fight their way out.
I have a hard time understanding how the bold part is the problem? If that’s a skilled player, the player would be enjoying a streak of win to get out of the low MMR. If it’s a bad player, they would be matched with bad players, so no problem too.
The key here is to meet the expectation. People when they first start, they expect to have easier match. If a skilled player has easier match, they won’t complain much. However, if a completely newbie gets matched with decent players, they feel frustrated and quit after a few games. You don’t want to make people quit. It’s for the health of the game.
the only type of new player who is going to have a good match with average MMR is someone who has been playing a lot of WvW. gw2 PvP and pve are just so different tactically that any other type of new player will just get farmed. especially when you put them up against people with hundreds of games.
give them low MMR because nearly all of them are going to be awful players.
Exactly!
We should optimize for the majority of the new players, who never tries PvP before. Many of them don’t even have a proper build. Putting them into the average MMR only cause misery for them, and for the team unlucky enough to have them.
On the other hand, for a new player, who happens to be amazing, getting a low starting MMR is just a minor inconvenience. Their matches are just easier until they win enough to face harder enemies.
We need a much lower starting MMR for new players.

This reminds me of when you all cried about tempest being trash when it was revealed. I was legit the only one defending it those days.
People disliked it because it offered the same Ele, not like a new Chronomancer. It’s an Ele++. Then they disliked more because everyone was expecting a DPS spec, with massive damage (it’s a freaking Tempest!), and it turned out to be a heal bot.
You may not realize it, but many Ele players are bored of being a healbot. In fact, right now Ele has no other build in PvP except being a heal bot. That’s why people complain again.

Did a lot of PvPers stop playing because the season ended? I’m not so sure I’m buying that. People who PvP a lot are going to… PvP a lot.
More likely, PvPers continued to PvP, PvE players stopped once the season ended, and this has nothing to do with the OP.
Yes, a lot of hardcore PvPers quit (temporarily) after the season, at least at Legendary+. Many people don’t like skyham and spirit. That causes a big difference in match making.
Let’s consider this example. We have 10 players with MMR 1500. Normally all of them get matched together. The matches are fun and fair. Then suddenly two good players come back. Their old rating was 2000, but since they didn’t play for a month, the rating decayed to 1500. Roughly 250 points difference in rating means 90%+ wining chance, so the 2 good players basically will win any 1v1, and may even win 1v2. Now since the 12 players have the same MMR, they will be matched together.
- if the 2 good players ended up on the same team with 8 of the original players, the match will be 500-0. The losing team will complain that they get the noobs who die instantly in the fight.
- if the 2 good players are splited on different team, then it’s a toss up on who can carry better.
- if the match only has 1 good player, it will result in a one sided match.
The only cure for this is to wait for people to play more matches and correct their MMR.

Unranked should get a different mmr system.
Just less wide gaps between the mmr players in there and it should be lot more pleasant.Obviously if you are gonna throw people from all mmr ranges in the same match, it is gonna give issues.
Unranked has a different MMR rating. It’s the fact that people don’t play consistently in unranked that caused the problem.
- People try new builds.
- People don’t play for a long time and their MMR decay.
- People went AFK because skyham.
- People just do daily since losing has no effect.
Together, all of the above causes a more instable match making than Ranked. Glicko assumes that the player is consistent, and always try the best to win.
Closing down the MMR gap in Unranked only make the match making take longer, but it might not improved the match at all.

The pro league attracts more better players back to the game. I haven’t played for a few weeks, and I know several LX3+ players who didn’t play during the off season at all.
Since unranked is based on MMR, with the lack of pro players, your MMR might have been raised too high. The MMR decay also makes it worse. In the end, you ended up getting matched against a lot of good players outside of your range.
Anyway, it’s just unranked, so play a few games until your MMR is stable again.

Aura share is only between 5-10 man. If you have more than that. A staff is almost always better.
i’ve heard of zerg’s using both. d/x ele’s have a metric kittenton of blast finishers/direct heals and the staff ele’s in the back provide the water fields(or druids)
The thing is D/x Ele is extremely weak to mass CC in WvW. Versus bad enemies you can steamroll them, but versus good groups that know how to CC, your Armor of Earth is the only thing that can keep you alive. If the fight last longer than 8s, you can’t really rely on your heal to get through it. Staying behind raining death and providing fields is much more useful.
Remember, when you use D/x, your team lose the water field. It doesn’t matter how many blast you have.

There is no way you would not have lost to a reaper. You would have been frozen and nuked down, just like everyone else.

Do you realize Diamond Skin is now on struck only? Also, most hits from the Reaper apply more than one condition. With tons of cover conditions, you can’t cleanse the chill. As soon as you fall below 75%, which doesn’t take long, it becomes a useless trait.
I’m happy to duel Reaper vs Ele with any Ele who thinks they have a chance against Reaper.

You realise stacking over half a minute of protection with one overload, AoE, was incredibly broken, right?
Kind of true, but in a way kind of not. On its face, it is relatively broken, but given the insane overload cost and the fact that overload earth doesn’t do anything else substantial it was relatively balanced. To clarify, overload earth, while probably having the longest description due to all the garbage attached to it in an attempt to make it worthwhile, did basically nothing besides grant prot. The damage/bleeds are minimal, the final 4s immob takes too long to get and has almost no meaning with everyone taking insane amounts of condi cleanse (due to other classes), the blast finisher is just ….why? (a blast 5s from a cast is all but impossible to use). You will always get more now by just swapping out and coming back, both in the short and long term.
I agree with the change, as it now normalizes earth overload with the other overloads (besides air) as skills that should basically never be cast. Fire is acceptable for downed cleave, but you don’t want to use it in the middle of a fight as being locked out of fire for 20s means no pressure.
20 second cooldown while having 20 other skills is costly to you?
Okay then.
Skills like… Shatterstone? And auto attacks that has less physical damage coefficients per second than a condi auto attack from Reaper?
Here is a comparison for you, both using the water set:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shatterstone
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ice_Spike
Ice Spike has almost double the damage, more range, more radius. Ice Spike deals damage after the vulnerability. Shatterstone deals damage before the vulnerability, which means it is not affected by the +20% damage traits.
It’s a shame that they refuse to look at Ele Scepter damage. It’s a shame that after 3 buffs, Shatterstone is still like half of Ice Spike (which is not even used regularly in PvE/PvP).
