GW2 is a game and games are meant to be fun. I have had alot of fun running around in wvw in tonic form as I’m sure many others have too.
There are many more important things in wvw that impact upon the game mode in much more destructive ways than tonics….
Removing exploits through tonics and cutting out abuse of unintended movement advantages are more important.

Sorry, but I personally don’t want the devs spending precious time reviewing tonics and tonic skills in combination with player skills, runes, sigils… to find the “safe” tonics so bored players can use them in our competitive realm vs realm pvp mode…

Devs- There are obviously unintended issues and exploits going on from certain tonics, so we need to disable all of them in wvw and be done with it.
Players- No, we don’t need the devs wasting time, effort and resources going through every tonic and tonic skill to determine which ones are exploitable. There are a plethora of major issues that need to be addressed and we need the devs to focus on those.

Was it intended to change class roles with elite specs and only offer 1 elite spec per prof that was way more powerful than any combination of core specs? It’s been a year and it’s infuriating.
That’s your problem, not everyone’s problem.
Players complained about easy content, so the devs made more difficult content and elites that were up to the task. The devs, after 3 years, finally made quality profession improvements to fill in role and weapon gaps to professions.
The devs are not going to back track on elites, and more are coming, so it’s time to get over what was implemented a year ago and move on. If you have issues with core stuff then post your suggestions to improve them in the professions section like the rest of us.

I love and hate this game. The only game mode I care about is wvw. It’s the most epic pvp experience I’ve come across. Arena net I know you and I haven’t seen eye to eye and you like to ban me frequently but for gods sakes please consider the following
Remove or severely weaken barriers to combat such as tiers of walls and gates, siege etc.
This only makes objectives more difficult to defend
Remove gear from wvw. Replace it with the pvp system. Old timers will not like this but I think if we want new blood in Wvw we need to adapt. Let it have the trinket weapon and sigil selections. It makes it easier for new players to come in and change the metas around quickerInvesting in your character(s) is better for the long run than having gear handed to you. RvR should not be similar to a glorified spvp mode, and the more we treat RvR like spvp, the worse off it will be. The devs are not going to change the gear system now and they shouldn’t anyway. You want new blood? Then you should ask the devs to compete with features and designs from CU, fix the engine, provide a kick butt reward system, fix up professions with pvp (wvw and spvp) combat in mind, provide quality playable roles to build and use, increase profession build variety and viability, fix stealth in pvp modes, create a new set of CC rules for pvp modes, spend an xpac worth of dev effort and investment into RvR here… Those things will bring in new players and improve retention rates among current players
Bring back a season with the grand finale at the end. Make it based off of kills vs points per tick.

Lastly…. kill eotm. Let me spin it to you this way, you are having wvw compete with it self for player base. You want low level players to get into actual wvw because it ultimately bodes better for that community besides the issues that may cause.
Killing eotm, with the current design and format and rewards and general pace of wvw… will not have the effect you think it will. It would only serve to alienate even more players

I feel like playable Dwarves are coming for some reason.

We had a long period of time were thieves weren’t particularly viable due to people not knowing how to 1 vs 1 on thief, but more importantly, the fact that they shouldn’t be 1 vs 1ing on thief. Thief’s job was decapping and pushing far, +1’ing with fast rotations, and sniping distant enemy team members in team fights. Thief benefited greatly from its mobility, and it needed that mobility in order to do the things it did.
Now, after many consecutive buffs to thieves, things are starting to get a little ridiculous. Thief used to counter necro and mesmer only, and that was fine because as stated before, 1 vs 1 was not it’s role. Since the numerous buffs, Thief now easily wins against revs, scrapper, maybe even some ele builds, while having an insane amount of teleports and easy access to stealth.
Thief currently has the best of both worlds: insane mobility, and insane damage. For both wvw and pvp, it has become broken. I’m not wanting the class to be useless, but here are my proposed nerfs: Short bow 5 reduced to 900 and 5 second CD. Unhindered combat swiftness and condition clear given an ICD of 5.
I understand it is important to the class to maintain mobility, and that’s what the profession is based on, but it really sticks out like a sore thumb when in pvp a thief respawns and in 5-6 seconds he’s at mid, kills you in 5 seconds, and then is off to the next point. In wvw it’s even more silly. A thief can just run into 40 man blobs and troll, blink 5 times and never get touched. Thieves are responsible for the endless tapping and desieging of keeps because again, it’s as easy as applying stealth then using 5 blinks.
No, it’s time to improve mobility on other professions.

Dear ANet Team,
In a recent patch, you decreased base healing on our Avatar spells and increased our healing stat contribution. You made it clear that we would have to choose and gear up for healing to be effective at it. That’s fine and that’s the way it should have been from the beginning.
However, you also increased Avatar cooldown to 15 seconds while in WvW. As you may already know from your personal playtime, 15 seconds feels like ages in a large-scale WvW battle. For someone who choose to gear up for healing according to the latest patch, that’s 5 extra seconds waiting for a CD to be able to play his role.
The way I understand it, you mainly increased the cooldown to deal with two issues:
- Druidic Clarity (break stun and full condi clear on a possibly “short” cooldown)
- Celestial Shadow (stealth and superspeed on a possibly “short” cooldown)I do agree that these traits could be abused, especially in a 1v1/small-scale environment. But the way you addressed it, you decreased the viability of a specialization/role which is already questioned in WvW squads (see the recent thread in the WvW subforum).
Main question:
If Druidic Clarity and Celestial Shadow were the issue, why wouldn’t you add a 25/30 sec cooldown on these traits instead of on our main specialization mechanic?Thank you for your answer
I agree that the cool down was heavy handed, but I’m not going to sugar coat the next comment. This applies to you or anyone else making the “easy to abuse” comments…
There were not any issues with Druid skills or traits, the issue is that players do not use counters in their build. You also cannot build to counter all the different meta builds at the same time either. Most complaints were from whiny and noncompetitive 1v1 dueler crybabies who don’t adapt or change or learn… They complain on the boards for the devs to hold their hands to win instead of improving. STOP feeding into the low skilled player QQ…

So a trait with the precondition that a target be hard CC’d to begin with, and as such is countered by what counters hard CC (stability, stunbreaks), that is then countered by a simple cleanse or the ability to press 1 and cleave (or even if your ping is low, you can predodge the roots when you know AS has procced on you) is somehow OP?
Meanwhile other classes can pump out hard CC and immobilizes by just existing? I mean, I’d take Chaotic Interruption on a Druid over Ancient Seeds ANY day.
Nobody cares that you have a ranger. Your opinion is wrong, your post is presumptuous and indicative that you play far below the skill level of having a strong grasp of balance, and your “I have an x friend like this, therefore I can say whatever I want” stylized rhetoric is both toxic and lost on a community of players that can immediately discern how blatantly misinformed and clueless about the game you are.

That trait is 100% overpowered (and annoying) in WvW, and partially on PvP. If you don’t agree with me, you possibly don’t play WvW/PvP too much, or you have a very good condition removal.

I don’t agree with you about this trait. I wvw a lot. If you don’t have condi removal or management in your build then you are doing it wrong. Also, if you think this trait is op compared to the condi being pumped out by other professions, you must not play in wvw and spvp much or have very good conditional removal in your builds.
Now if you want to complain about the overall cc application and management designs for wvw and spvp modes, then yeah, there at problems. However, to single out this particular trait among everything else is you not looking at the big picture.

It’s mind boggling that they opened BG. In 82 time periods this week, they had 71 1st place finished and 11 second; ZERO 3rd place finishes.
Tier 1 is the most lopsided tier this week. Yet BG was open for transfers because they did not have sufficient number enough players playing?
From observations it seems that BG has a lot of regular and dedicated players. They also seem to put in a lot of overtime. The recent dev post stating that BG had less population than JQ and linked worlds lends more credibility to my thoughts.
Despite BG being a top competitive server, that doesn’t mean it needs to be forever locked and players stressed to put in more effort to be successful. Brief periods of being open are healthy for current players and allows for the population to be maintained as other players stop playing or lose interest.
Y’all really have to stop blaming players on this particular server and look to improving your own servers instead.

I would love to see these added in game! I used to love outside city dueling in Wildstar and WoW, and I think it would be really benificial in bringing the community more together. Sure we do have costume brawls, which are a lot of fun, but idk maybe add some more costume weapons like the two-handed axe?
Inspections would be really useful because a lot of times I see someone with some amazing gear and I think “Ooh what is that”, but usually when I whipser them to ask they ignore me :/ Inspections please!
We have a magic carpet, we have a broom, can we have a char themed motor bike, or an asura hoverboard? Let me know what you guys think!(Also, keep your “go play wow” statements to yourself, cause wow isnt the only mmo with these features you kittens)
Go to wvw or spvp for all your pvp needs. You can find likeminded players with pvp builds to fight.
You have access to look at every piece of gear in the wardrobe tab of your bank.
I personally have nothing against mounts and could live with or without them.

This thread points out observed issues and recommendations from WVW players. (And with 10,518 hours played (most of it in pvp and WvW), I might have spoke to more than 5 people … that and no life as well
.)
ISSUE 1: Legacy Week long scoring system rewards server groups that can put up 24 hour coverage and to those who can not, it demoralizes the Friday-Sunday WvW players who put in time and have no capacity to fill any remaining hours during the week.
WHAT ANET HAS DONE: Revamped WVW with cross server realms to plus up low population and give low tier someone to play with. (was good improvement but does not fully address issue 1.)
RECOMMENDATION 1: Forget the week long point system, no one cares who is in first place – provide a 24 or 4 hour map scoring system. People like to wvw for a time and feel they did something – they don’t want to put in major effort just to watch it disappear because no OCX or EU players on an NA server (for example) to plus up the shortages.
HOW TO:
- Provide same system of cross server, only make 7 events (1 for each 24hour period) to provide an overall score over the course of a month.
- At the end of the month, REWARD players for their place (whatever loot system you want but make it worth the position they achieved or improved to. Why?
- Because time spent in WVW results in roughly a 40-75% decrease in gold and loots available to pve players (FACT) and…
- It allows those who play on certain days and certain times to GROUP with friends and achieve something rather than joining a map with unknown people, pick-up-groups (PUGs), and/or blob that just roam and kill any momentum or excitement (ie.g they make wvw a grind).ISSUE 2: There hasn’t been any weekly or WvW tournaments to speak of in roughly 2 years. Hence a preeminent reason why no one cares about place (1st or 16th) or even going to WvW. There is no bang for the buck, no reward for the time, no reason for the season.
WHAT ANET HAS DONE: Promised WvW seasons but, for reasons not fully appreciated or understood by the player community, no Tournaments.
RECOMMENDATION 1: Provide an out of server Tournament Map and allow map to que join to open or player loss to close (no rezzing is one of my favorites but not the community’s).
HOW TO:
- Make a new map (a la ETOM) and create a LFR queuing system to join.
- Use a tried and true WvW(vW) matching system (a la Alterac Valley from WoW) whihc allows players to join a map in their server group. That map will only launch with 75% fill of all three teams (so larger than 40 for the map would be foolish). The map will also announce a closing-in-15-min if one team falls to 33% because one or two teams are making it impossible to win or the game is simply lame for various reasons.
- At the end of the match (tournament), REWARD players for their place (whatever loot system you want but make it worth the position they achieved or improved to.ISSUE 3: PvP fights are better (because of 5v5 and not 30 v 6). PvP fights are faster and more aggressive because of a point-kill-capture and timer scoring systems – both of which are non existent in WvW.
WHAT ANET HAS DONE: Provided a more robust community in WvW with cross servers but this still does not mitigate the 40 man blob sweeping every tower and keep in 30 min v a server group who is runing 40 people at 10 each map.
RECOMMENDATION 1: None – open to suggestions (my only input is a queing system (see issue 2 above) that keeps WvW active and alive, rather than a zerg grind fest it has truly become.
HOW TO:
- open to suggestions.
- Use a tried and true WvW(vW) matching system (a la Alterac Valley from WoW) whihc allows players to join a map in their server group. That map will only launch with 75% fill of all three teams (so larger than 40 for the map would be foolish). Lag fixes (coming) , better rewards (coming), scoring changes (ongoing), 3 factions, +1 whatever CU is going to offer for RvR gameplay, more unique maps in play, a professions 2.0 update that offers better build diversity and viability and quality playable roles, fix up cc and stealth in wvw… are much better long term suvival improvements.

Daggers already fill the “fast melee attacks” role. Moreover fast attacks from a 6ft long two-handed greatsword does not make any sense.
Then how do you explain Warrior and Guardian greatsword auto attacks? And before you say “well reaper greatsword has higher base damage”, both those professions have more damage modifiers, so they can do more damage whilst hitting quicker.
Yup, Ranger has a decent speed, sucky damage, GS, and Mes shoot magic stuff… but ya know, we need the “realism” rules applied to Necro at a cost to performance…

It feels like they are limited by the engine and tools tbh. Hiring more people not gonna help if it is true. Agreed with everything else though.
There was a recent dev post in the wvw section, iirc, that mentioned working on lag, so they may possibly be working on certain engine improvements and such. Idk. But yes, this is a weak point to the game as well.

WE saw a few druids during the TOL, but the two finalists (eu) didn’t use a druid, and it was said that chrono/scrapper/necro/rev/ele was the new meta with some thief/guardian inclusions but it seems druid and warr are now the least favourite classes for high tier competitive pvp
Yay for low skilled “Druid op” 1v1 qqers who don’t know what counters are…
The awful team support Druid design was made even worse last patch so it’s better to bring more damage, or whatever, instead.

Edit- Even our devs are not using GS for their power builds… bet there are zero pvp mode GS builds on metabattle too…
Funnily enough I mostly played power necro when climbing to legend last season. The build I played is pretty janky, but it was a fun change of pace and ended up being a bit better than I expected.
Depending on the amount of condi builds on the enemy team I would swap in plague signet, and if the enemy comp was super condi heavy I would swap SR for curses to get the extra plague signet proc as well.
Not trying to say power necro is top tier or anything but it was good enough to win games with and pretty fun to play.

Again, you Changes give the Reaper 4 Mobility Skills ( 5 If you also take in the Flesh Wurm ) and One Skill for grabbing People. This is waaay too much, complete Overkill on this Part. No other Class has access to so many Mobility Skills at once.
And you didn’t clarify if you want to keep the additional Gravedigger Effect for CD Reduction for Example. You spam Gravedigger when your Enemy is below 50%. So when it is a Leap Attack you just spam Leaps which is annoying since you give up Control over your Class. You can interrupt a normal Gravedigger by dodging if the Situation demands it. Your Leap can’t be interrupted. So repositioning by yourself due to dodging or moving isn’t possible. It then makes the skill very unconvienent and clunky.
And what about the CD reduction? Kill it? You’d then have killed a very good DPS income. This is why he talks about sinking Power Necros further.Tell me. What is the Problem Necros Face in PvE? ( Hint: Its not Mobility )
No, I said go try it out in pvp modes and come back to talk… get more than just your pve perspective on Necro GS.

Unless I misunderstood you, you are offering to replace current GS2 functionality with leap skill. Now, you can’t kill what’s already dead and all that, but GS2 is huge part of PVE power kit. Removing it will make necro sink to brand-new rock bottom.

I couldn’t give less kittens about spvp or wvw – I don’t play them, nor do i think that all weapons should be equally effective in all game modes. In PVE, power necro relies on Gravedigger and its CD reset to maintain its current DPS, as pathetic as it is. You offer to turn it into reposition skill, but you either want to remove CD reset entirely, or don’t take into account how annoying constant repositioning will get when spammed. In first case, it will sink power necro further. In second, it will just be annoying.
Your entire redisign will make it so reapers are contantly positioned on top of enemy to maintain rotation regardless of their desire to do so, which can get all kinds of bad in PVE.
Umm you have to be within 170 to use gravedigger… you want to be on target with a melee weapon anyway lol
You don’t have any valid counter arguments against this change. You don’t pvp at all so you don’t have any idea why I made these suggestions… These are actually buffs to skills and provide necro a viable melee weapon for all game modes.

Sry Swagger but while the Changes may be nice they are more likely a kick in the Balls for PvE Reapers. The only thing that would be beneficial would be GS1 with faster Attacks. But then you are overloading the Reaper with Mobility Skills. You would have 4 Skills who are Mobility Skills and also one grabbing your Enemies. Its far too much.
And for PvE. You are just talking about making Things more like Mobility Skills but not talking about how to balance the Damage, CD etc. If everything would stay the same except the Weapon Damage you want to decrease, and the Change just happens to be on the Mobility then you nerfed Reaper hard. Remember?
*Change the weapon to do moderate damage to balance out these cool new features.
I don’t mind Changes to the Reaper GS but it shouldn’t be a complete Rework to something that has more Mobility than a DD Thief or is even close to Daredevil.

On the flip side I can argue that there’s more to the game than WvW/PvP. Don’t go looking at one side and roll your eyes at the other like a hypocrite. PvE is just as popular as the other modes and as such different players will have different opinions. In all seriousness: these changes would not benefit PvE much in any way and as such (since ArenaNet is about balancing between all modes) you most likely won’t see these changes anytime soon. Do we like the idea? Absolutely. But mobility would make more sense on Dagger or (if we got a new Melee weapon) Sword rather than a big, clunky GS. Skills should focus on bringing your opponent to you, not the other way around. It should have more control skills rather than raw damage because of that. Slow, powerful and controlling is what GS should be, not slow, powerful and bursting.
I can promise you a good Necro isn’t defined by the weapon they choose, but by their ability to adapt and know which Traits to use for which fight on the fly. Dagger sucks against Bosses PvE that have huge AoEs underneath them (Verdant Brink’s Matriarch?) but Axe would work pretty well in that scenario whereas in PvP Dagger would be the better option for the obviously faster DpS with a kite Lifesteal and Immobilizing Boon Corruption. GS is not as bad as everyone wants to make it out to be, simply because it doesn’t fit your playstyle doesn’t make it bad. GS 3, for example, is more useful than people give it credit for. Running Corrupter’s Fervor? Boom instant max stacks. Decimate Defenses? Boom 24% instant Crit Rate boost. But all every cares about is the numbers and not the fundamentals.
Going off of your OP: I wouldn’t change anything other than allowing GS5 to retarget before the animation goes off completely (so if you pop it and the enemy dodges behind you, you can still do a quick 180 and pull them instead of the claws pulling from the direction you were initially aiming) which I would recommend a tiny channel window for, and GS4 should be a moving field that sticks to the user. I mean, whenever you cast it you’re in the middle anyways and it’s not hard for an enemy to roll/dash/evade/leap out of it. Then you just have a field that’s completely useless, aside from possible Combos. Making the field stick to the Necro like Zerker does acts as both a defensive and offensive buff without really changing anything. The rest is fine as is, if we MUST pick at something else then maybe fix the after-cast of Gravedigger so it’s non-existant when the enemy is below 50% HP. Helps with Bosses and actually puts a higher skill curve on the skill since you’d be spinning like a tornado so it’d be easier to miss your target, especially while dodging. When you stop using Gravedigger I’d say have a small delay as a “Woah I’m dizzy” sign. But that’s only if we MUST pick at another skill, that really doesn’t need too much of a tweak otherwise.

Well the problem is that Anet want reaper and GS specially to be slow and methodically. So unless they change their stance on it (which i doubt will ever happen) it is kinda pointless to want buffs that go completely against that theme.
If i consider this i think it be more beneficial for us to push GS in a direction that is more in line with this theme.
Dont get me wrong, i would gladly take more mobility on GS but honestly i just cannot see that Anet would ever give us mobility on GS.
The actual reaper isn’t slow, though, just the greatsword. It’s an awful design especially for our only melee weapon.
And before anyone, not you, says, “well great sword supposed to be slow weapon”…. take a look at ranger, guard, war and mes…

Way too much mobility on a spec/profesion that’s designed to not be crazy mobile. GS necro ends up more mobile than D/D thief, lol. Seriously, Death Spiral would be better off as as a replacement for Death Blossom.
Gravedigger is fine as-is, maybe could use some LF gen to reward players for taking the time to cast it and land it.
Death Spiral is fine as-is. Nothing crazy, nothing weak now, either.
Nightfall is probably the best skill on GS currently. GS is in a weak spot only because I think its cooldown is too long. Bring the cooldown to 20s base and it should help make the GS struggle a lot less.
Grasping Darkness is amazing when used properly, but it suffers from the fact mobility skills are on such low cooldowns. Cut the cooldown in half, and now you’ve got a menacing means of keeping your enemy close by, better chill application, better LF gain, and better CC all wrapped into an ability that takes some skill to use properly.
I’d rather see them utilize pulls and effects to bring the enemy to you rather than raw mobility. If the reaper wasn’t too inherently slow to be an effective melee without a trait and utility skill or gear investment, Spectral Grasp would be much more viable utility option, and fits perfectly with the concept overall.
Well, Necro sucks in melee in wvw and spvp. Reaper skills do not compensate for the lack of a consistent melee weapon in hand.
As for mobility, currently Necro is just a big bag of health so they need something, and thief would still be king of movement and positioning…

So faster attacks, the ability to stick on target and a repositioning skill, that does damage as well, would not be useful in pve?

So the stacked server would get a handicap? Like for X amount of players over the competitions population you get -10K x X, at reset?
Nah how about the stacked server players receive attributes nerfs depending on how stacked they are compared to their rival servers?
That sadly wouldn’t be enough. People will be walking lootbags if they still have double the numbers. Herd mentality.
You have to penalize the server rating, make it an uphill fight every week, before people will clue in and spread out. If you’re down 100k every reset, that’s going to affect week-end score and T1 shiny status.
So y’all want to punish some players because anet failed to generate more interest for wvw and increase retention rates?
What y’all are talking about is akin to blaming customers for low HoT sales and poor conversions to B2P… … The customers did not create this game, nor do they maintain it, the state of wvw is a direct result of what anet did or didn’t do… Might want to think about that before we come up with more ideas to punish customers.
