The devs clearly stated the BG has less players than JQ and many of the linked worlds. Just because they have done well doesn’t mean players need to suffer from burn out to compete, and it also doesn’t mean that players don’t quit playing either… It’s kind of foolish to think that any server needs to be forever locked out regardless of ranking or performance.

BG’s all map queues vs our 2 on reset night last week tell a different story.

Reset night numbers mean nothing when you use averages.

Yes, BG loses players too, for various reasons, and that is clear from McKenna’s post.

I mean, we can do averages too. throughout the week BG consistently had a near map queue or possibly map queue on every map whereas we had one 2-10 person queue on ebg and enough of a force to barely hold up against BG on our home borderlands.

Again, all anecdotal though. I don’t have hard numbers because I’d rather play the game. If i wanted spreadsheets I’d still be playing Eve.

What people do is game the algorithm. They make alt accounts and join other servers for WvW so their home server opens and they can stack another guild or two before it closes.

McKenna, an anet developer, gave a very clear answer.

It’d be silly to say that Celestial Shadow is more accessible than the options that thief and mesmer have. I dislike that the whole CA mechanic suffers because of that trait.
As it is now I wouldn’t even take Lingering Light if it were competing with the other Master traits. Or at all.

I said cheap and accessible, reading comprehension is a wonderful thing, let’s see stealth on a 10 sec Cd before nerf that isn’t tied to any Weapon or utility skill, that provided AoE stealth and Superspeed that’s uninterruptible.
While Thief has to Use use 9 Initiative (effectively a 9 sec CD on most skills since Initiative only regens at 1 per second in most builds) that is tied to all its weapon skills, that can be interruptible, doesn’t provide Superspeed, the only saving grace is the return Thief gets by being able to stack Stealth off of one BP making them pretty combat ineffective since no Initiative.

And I never said anything about Mesmer since they get multiple CDs and shortened CDs of Stealth if spec’Ed for it.

You play thief and are complaining about ranger stealth?

Your “uninterruptible” comment is funny considering all stealth skills have the same counters, and there are a ton on movement imparing conditions to spread around in spvp and wvw. None of which rangers are immune to…

You are prime example of a non competitive player who doesn’t improve and decides to complain instead. Druid has been out for over a year already, so way past time to pay attention and adapt.

Also, nobody is buying your sad portrayal of the thief profession just so you can make a flawed argument… Yeah, I (and I’m sure many vets do too) have all professions at 80 and am fully aware of the capabilities of each, so save your “pity thief” spin doctoring and focus on being a better player instead.

Edit- I’m willing to bet you are a thief main, and avid dueler, that sees the game through a 1v1 lense. If so, you should break out of that and start looking at the bigger pictures.

i need some help i what is the most optimal healing build for druid that has dps after the patch i’ve been gone from guilds wars for a while so far i hear full magi’s but thats no damage and i hear zealot, im casual pve’er only and enjoy healing good amounts, support buffs, and at least some dps so at least do dungeons etc i dont want multiple sets of gear…any suggestions would help i just have magi armor staff with sword warhorn and trinkets all being zerk atm and running water runes until i can get monk runes

Druid is great in large scale battles and even more in GvG. The issue here is that a 15 seconds CD is too much considering the combat pace and amount of damage in medium/large scale WvW battles. On the other hand, a 10 seconds CD was manageable.

You are right about Druidic Clarity and Celestial Shadow being the root of the issue. Therefor why would they nerf a whole specialization mechanic instead of the faulty traits?
It may have been easier to do/code but the result is almost game-breaking. It hurts the ones who actually play the specialization and use its spells.
The funny part: it hardly even hurts those who grab the spec only to abuse the traits.

Without getting into a heal support design debate, the previous Druid build was fine. The issues were that players didn’t use counters and spent more time crying instead of improving.

Which is an issue with roaming/pvp and people abusing a specialization built for healing so they can use it for 2 traits.

Bull on the abuse comment. Good players knew how to counter.

How to make the game world more interesting?

I cannot play in the open world content without falling asleep. I would love if there was anything at all to spice things up. Here’s some suggestions:

1. An invisable superspeed trashmob that takes 20+ people to kill and roams around the zone, invading people’s tushes, one shotting them and maybe cursing them.
2. Open world pvp. Do whatever you want to encourage friendly behavior, buff non theives, whatever. Disable wvw for like 1 hour every 8 hours and enable open world pvp for an hour or something.
3. Let people do maplestory style trashmob summoning. I want to be able to summon like 17 leaf archer guys in a safe area. C’mon it’s like 300 copper to res. Disable it in the 1-15 zones, the mists and the main city if you want.

So much of the map is being wasted by not spicing things up IMO.

Anet already made this stuff for wvw, so you’re not bored or falling asleep! Let me tell you about it!

1- This is what we call “Thieves” in wvw! These perma-stealth creatures zip around the zone and backstab your tush (like you want) for a lot of damage, or use these super “curse” condi builds to melt you! It generally takes a bunch of opposing players to take one down because of their stealth capabilities and mobility! These commonly found creatures also like to laugh at and insult other players a lot too for some reason! Awesome yeah?

2- You can pvp on all these cool maps 24/7 without shutting anything down for an hour!!! Sounds awesome too right?

3- Instead of being able to summon silly pve creatures at a cost, you can summon groups of like 50+ players to help you squash anything for FREE! Awesome again right?

Sure, buff pets, why not.

Just remember smokescale smoke assault and bristle back barrage will be heavily nerfed to compensate.

Do you even play ranger? I’m assuming no.

The word is “fix” pets.

Just remember that most pets miss moving targets and those 2 hit more reliably, nothing to nerf there buddy.

Pre Cursor crafting is a joke!

So I finally bought HoT and I was all hyped up that I would finally be able to craft my first pre cursor. I finished Incinerator I: The Experimental Dagger, and moved on to the second part Incinerator II. But on the half way of the achievement I said wait a minute, this costs waaay too many gold. So I did the math:

Spark on the Trading Post = 669 Gold

Achievement Crafting = 671 Gold

Incienator Vol 1 = 5 Gold
100 Memorys of Battle = 6 Gold
100 Shards of Glory = 1 Gold
10 Globs of Ectoplasm = 3 Gold
10 Elonian Leather Squares = 108 Gold
85 Deldrimor Steel Ingots = 512 Gold
25 Stabilizing Matrix = 10 Gold
100 Karka Shells = 7 Gold
Steel, Iron,Orichalcum.. Blades = 10 Gold
Steel, Iron,Orichalcum.. Hilts = 3 Gold
50 Elderwood Plank = 3 Gold
Gemstone + Lodestones = 3 Gold

After all the time and gold spent only to find out this!? Seriously I want my gold back, If I knew that pre cursor would cost me the same amount of gold like on TP, I wouldn’t even started crafting it. Opinions?

The devs tried to make the “journey” for legendaries more meaningful, not cheaper. Next time skip the crafting step and just buy the pre.

Ventari compared to shout elementalist

How does a ventari rev do compared to a shout elementalist?
I have played alot of succesfull games as a shout elementalist, which can heal allies pretty well and keep up, even when focused.
Then I thought, could Ventari not do the same, with less effort (not having to juggle through 4 stance, auras etc., even though it is the fun part aswell) with both more armour and health (tier 3 / 2 vs tier 1).
Plus alot of condi cleanse without burning shouts.

So before jumping in and fiddling with it, I want to hear your experience.
I’ve seen a vid, and actually considering taking Hammer instead of sword/shield.
Still using staff, but trying to be a backline healer (as ele you are in the fray:/).

I hate to say it, but ventari and druid are horrible for movement based combat healing. Ele is not much better, but the best on the move. Overall, anet made horrible support roles and skills in this game, some of the worst I’ve ever experienced.

Druid is mobile with staff, and ventari can command the tablet. Problem is that druid has 1 movement skill on a weapon and not on CAF. And vebtari sacrifices self sustain when you help people in a little area. Ele has just better AoE support which makes it more reliable and it has not to be primarely focussed on support do buff and support allies in some way.

“Movement based combat healing”, as in, healing moving allies… Gw2 support roles suck to support moving players. The worst support skill designs in any mmo, that I’ve played, that had support roles.

This economy…..just why did they let it sink this bad? This isn’t healthy. Also I can’t sell all my mats for gold to buy gems……….gem prices aren’t dipping under 100g per 400 even with these low mat costs.

Oh wait, nevermind I think I found out why everything we own has become halfed in value.

Does anyone really believe this si gonna bounce back though? I mean when the next expansion and legendary armour (prolly won’t be out till next expansion lol) comes out it will change ‘for a while’ anyways….but its gonna go back to this point at this rate and keep slinking farther and farther to poverty.

Post like this bother me. You are essentially complaining about lower return on the tp because it hurts your personal income and gold to gems exchange rate.

Just be grateful the devs created a “free ride” path so you don’t have to spend a dime supporting the game for virtual goods and services.

No, there is no abuse in tonic use, if it does not give any statistical advantage.
You’ll have to try a bit harder at the bait game

Your post is clear, no need to attempt a spin doctor… You want to keep the abuse of appearance changes to visually throw off enemies during rushes or while being sniped. That’s not what these tonics were designed for.

Can we get some insight about what game function this particular feature causes issue?

As it stands, enemy teams get familiarized with your character model, and then choose specified pick teams to pull you from your group. As a regular player, this is subjective to filing it with the rest of (what I call) wah stories, but then when leading a group your whole team dies and becomes no longer any fun.

This particular strategy was employed to throw off those specific pick teams that target the driver only. Is there any way we may be able to come to some kind of compromise in light of this?

To Whom It May Concern,

Pets die a lot, so that means a percentage of our factored damage is debuffed, and some slot skills and traits get screwed over… Please do something about this because it’s not acceptable to have pets (a core class mechanic) become such a liability, on top of the other urgent issues such as difficulty hitting moving targets (in a game that was intentionally designed with movement based combat) with all of their skills.

I’m not trying to be negative, but I personally feel 4 years of known issues is long enough to warrant some kind of effort to fix or change these pet problems, and boost ranger damage. It also kittens me off that some professions are capable of effortlessly blasting players in wvw for massive damage, or melting players with condi spam, while rangers are stuck with kitten damage and kitten pets.

Yes, I actually wrote “kitten” and “kittens” and kept it clean, but feel free to add your own interpretation.

I’m a big fan of trading in this game; I think it should remain in the game.

Its an extension of the game. Just because you do work in your office doesnt mean you cant extend that outside the office as an example. Also, you may not use it but why would you be against it? It’s like saying your against Netflix because you dont use it and rather stick to old fashion cable, lest these Netflix users watch shows on their mobile devices and pertend they are in the TV show loop.

What you assume would be a neat convenience, would actually turn out to be massive tp manipulations via app.

Also, watching Netflix on mobil app doesn’t kitten over a entire virtual economy, so that’s a silly comparison.

To clarify you won’t be able to activate them while in combat.

So if you are transformed then enter combat you will not transform back to your regular model. So you can still fight as a kodan if you activate it before the fight.

Yeah, as another poster mentioned, that Kodan dodge animation needs work. Also, all tonics that provide a movement skill should be disabled…

Question… I know y’all are very busy, and not sure how much effort it’s going to take reviewing all these tonics, so would it make more sense to disable them all and be done with any possible future and known exploits?

Edit- With all the other really important work going on with wvw, I’d much prefer dev time and effort be devoted to the things that matter, not these silly tonics in our competitive game mode.

I read through all of the posts and I believe we all have some common ground here. For starters I agree with the WVW people about having to do the complete map many times to unlock the GOE. I understand their pain I have 16 characters and its a pain to keep having to complete the thing. I would think that best choice would be to simple state that if we have done map completion for at least 1 character the map should be complete the for the rest. In so doing perhaps the Devs can then unlock the GOE say with commendations so the WVW folks and PVP folks can get it that way.

While saying I see the same thing for the PVE folks. IT makes sense that the GOB could be bought with commendations as well but I do think that perhaps in the same way as above – it couldn’t hurt to have the PVE players stick it out for one GOB reward track.

I guess the one thing I would ask the DEVS is since we have many players that have already done both why not all these gifts to already be available for the older accounts. In this way they win and we win a good compromise. The get the new gamers to get a feel for both and you never know you might get a few that take to doing either and like it.

The method to obtain gob is not changing. We had a huge thread about it and we were told no.

Good Example of failure. A___T you ask people do they want desert BL and over 50% people voted for it. Where are those 60-70% people now?

Answer is they never existed to begin with, becasue while the overall all majority of people that really cared voted no. People that don’t even care get to choose.

As of a result of you trying to be inclusive to people that don’t need to be included becasue they don’t even play the game mode you ruin the game.

Same with Cannons repair hammers all of the other stuff.

Take advice from me now. If it sounds like game breaking or not fun like desert bl and cannons. Chances are the people who are going to have to live with those consequences don’t want it.

So stop asking people for their opinion that have no opinion to give.

From a dev… “Nearly every player that voted, plays WvW at least somewhat regularly.”… and I’m sure that could be applied to all polls.

You only get a mail when you rank up and need to be at least rank 10.

Right, just using a tonic is not an exploit, but additional movement skill abuses, sigil proc exploits, lack of dodge animations on some tonics and being able to bypass reflects… are issues and exploits…

You probably should have elaborated on how koda tonics allow players to bypass blocks/reflects.

I’m going to hazard a guess tho, koda tonics make it difficult to see when a warrior uses might signet which makes their attacks unblockable and you just didn’t notice.

You can’t “elaborate” exploits on the forums…

And garbage like these meters – and the toxicity they create – are exactly why many left those games to come to GW2.

Seriously? Do you have any factual statistics to back that up? What percentage of the gw2 playerbase is here due to stat gathering tools from other games?

I led 10 and 25 player progression raids in WoW for 6+ years. I used recount extensively, as well as third party combat log programs that parsed and analyzed data down to the second by second action. I even had a paid subscription to use one (cant remember the name of it at the moment).

And I saw how others in the community there used the tools as well – both when I joined other groups and from guildees/friends/mapchat regarding the topic. The hate and toxicity was real. I would have gladly given them up in my raiding if it would have removed them entirely from the game. And, yes – 100% – they and the atmosphere they created were a big part of the reason I (and many guildees with me) left WoW looking for a friendlier MMO experience (which GW2 definitely was).

You and your guildies do not constitute “many”… and that game you referenced still outperforms gw2, even with those meters.

A year and a half ago, the idea of dps meters would have been shot down on the forums pretty much immediately – and rightfully so.

That is the same way I feel about them today. While some would use them productively, the last thing we need is another tool for hateful and toxic players to shame or belittle others – and we all know that is exactly what would happen (because many of us have seen it time and again in other games – and because we can all probably identify at least a few players in GW2 now that would use it exactly that way).

DPS meters can be used for good reasons – but those reasons will never outweigh the potential toxicity they would bring to the game. They need to be kept as far from GW2 as absolutely possible.

No, you are wrong.
Fully fledged out DPS meters like Skada in WoW and the one i forgot the name of in Final Fantasy do more than just show DPS.
Additionally they show Damage done, HPS, Healing done, Healing recieved, Interrupts done, damage recieved (and by what skill of the boss/trash mob they got hit).

A tool like this is incredibly helpful to work on mistakes you might not even notice, it makes evaluating a failed boss attemp so much easier.
DPS meters in the sense of “do 30k DPS or you’re out” are loooong gone, so stop being stuck with your limited mindset

It’s very simple imo, if the only content you need DPS meters are raids then only let them be used in raids.
And if Anet, as well as the casual pug-only community is scared off them, make them a guild only tool.
Or better yet, make them a brand new guild upgrade (you can research really early), and have a restriction that 50% or more of the group need to be from the same guild.

It really saddens me that this game doesnt allow addons, there could be so much QoL that could come from them.
A DPS meter is one example, something like WoW’s TellMeWhen or Weakauras2 is another thing, that doesnt hurt the game but is insanely helpful QoL.

Raids aren’t the only area of the game where stats are important to players. I certainly would like to know incoming and outgoing direct damage, crit damage, condi damage, pet damage, healing… for all areas of the game. There are a plethora of numbers that would be useful to have organized and know for live combat scenarios. This info is also useful because we can have fact based conversations with players and devs with regard to profession performance.

i was thinking it be neat if there was a guild sign up. basically take your roaster then put it in a qu with all other guilds that want to do WvWs an then randomly set up so each sever has even numbers that last a week.

so i know first problem would be what do i do with all offline people in my guild well to solve that problem you could create a roaster of people who are going to WvW that week sign up for WvW they have to be online them self to sign up for it.

that way every week have interesting results never be on “that sever” .

My thoughts are that your proposal turns wvw into a chaotic gvg free-for-all nightmare that wastes dev time and dollars trying to create and maintain. The gvg ship sailed away long ago.

WvW has a structure to it. EotM had a structure to it. This “guild sign up and play” becomes a sloppy mess of constantly changing randoms… Also, we don’t need this mode to be like glorified spvp gvg matches, we need to move wvw toward being a better realm vs realm mist war experience that rivals features from games like the upcoming CU.

Swagger.1459, it needs alot of changes, the overall design ideia is there but theres alot of wrong done in that map its to much for the game and also the WvW mechanics are to dull to support a map that does not offer much besides size… the glitches and keeps that can get bombarded by siege +1200 meter above the keep… its a very flawed concept as well.
Map needs to loose alot of the vertical design and, and be more chanllanging on the horizontal, wich just some minor aditions.

Then start a thread detailing very specific changes y’all want. Submit bug and exploit reports to the team with screenshots and details… Dbl is not going away.

Dueling in PVE?

Almost nobody wants to run around dueling in their pve gear and builds. Go to spvp, wvw, os and guild halls to face off against competitive players with the proper gear and builds…

We don’t need to annoy pveers all because someone can’t handle dueling with zergs around or won’t use the other areas designed for pvp combat.

Edit- This is a completely selfish request considering the devs have already provided multiple places for pvp combat to occur.

I can understand that the pet should do more damage and I do feel the same, but I think that the pet should be more than just another source of damage. It should be a fully fledged utility tool.

For example, every time I try to break a breakbar by myself, I struggle as a Ranger, since most of the hard-hitting CC is on pets. My suggestion would make that CC easily accessible to you.

Another example is the positioning in a fight. I can use my wolf’s fear against enemies, but I can only control when my pet is going to use it, not where. Against stealthed enemies pets are currently completely useless, because even if you know where the enemy might be, getting your pet to use its F2 at that position is more than just a hassle.

Pets are awful, the fundamental things need to be fixed first before we go asking for more ways to micromanage our pets.

I’m all for pet improvements btw, but when our pets hardly hit anything that moves, die all the time and screw over our builds and damage output… that needs to be addressed over anything else.

Adding all the bells and whistles to a car with a crappy engine still makes it a crappy car… First things first.

Edit- made some edits. Also, if anet goes the “micromanage pets” route, then we better get the option to make pets optional because I’m not running around in pvp modes fiddling with pets.

I think it would be great to have some additional target indicator options that are easier to see and colorblind friendly.

Some suggestions…

-Target is highlighted by an outline aura when selected. Color options for the aura.

-Box corners around selected target. Color options for the corners.

-Color options for the current indicator.

With all due respect, I’m not going to micromanage crappy pets that struggle to keep up and hit moving targets, have super long f2 animations with attacks that also miss moving targets, die constantly and screw over so much of our personal damage and builds… when I’m getting blasted in the pixels by effortless 10k+ hits in wvw and spvp…

If pets were simply made to move and attack faster, kept pressure on moving targets and hit reliably, were more resilient… then I think most players would be happy.
