It was bad enough when we got the same for second as for third. That was extremely demoralizing. To get nothing at all would be the last straw.
What needs to happen and soon is for meaningful results (doesn’t have to be material rewards) to be attached to position in each skirmish and to position in the match at the end of the week. Make it matter more whether your side comes second or third, not less, and make it so that everyone is aware that it has some significance, even if they don’t personally care what order the teams finish.
5/4/3 or 3/2/1 is demoralizing to whoever the winning server decides to demoralize.
2/1/1 or 1/0/0 is demoralizing to the second place server.
Rewards for skirmish victories leads to night capping.
Rewards for weekly victories leads to overstacking to win and tanking to win.
Lower the map cap by 10% for next match after a server dominates a match.
Lower the map cap of the dominating population when another side is outmanned.
Lower map caps all around, bring back 4 map queues.
The one thing that will reduce the population decline overall is:
Make it so a smaller, well organized force, has a chance to defeat another force that’s 2, 3, or 4 times larger. This is known as skill balance.

well. i dunno. apparently Anet cant really program a good event in WvW based on past experiences.
maybe more super simplistic events, that has no impact on the map. and just gives loot?
I don’t know, GW1 had a zombie apocalypse that was the most fun I’ve ever had.
WvW had 3 seasons and people enjoyed all three seasons. Every server came out in full force, commanders came out in full force pulled of massive hours so their server can win.
Have to correct you there. There hasn’t been a WvW season where the winners weren’t known, except the 2v1 against BG in season 2. Some guilds couldn’t run full numbers because of all the PvE players flooding the maps looking for rewards.
It has also been said by Anet the WvW population permanently DECLINED after each tournament, probably because of all the player burnout.
Now if you want to increase WvW rewards, how can you do it without changing the way WvW is played.
Increase rewards for capturing structures, WvW becomes EotM
Increase rewards for killing players, WvW becomes kill-trading like when the PvE players got Ultimate Dominator titles in OS.
Increase rewards for winning, the players will overstack one server.
The event I wanted but missed was the guild 1st anniversary all ranger raid night.
If only there was a decision making flowchart for WvW we wouldn’t need anymore of these threads.

When there’s no commander you have to pay to play, ahem, transfer. That’s what GW2 WvW is all about.
And if you happen to choose poorly when you transfer, you’ll have to pay again.
Why would you take this away from thieves? Would you rather see, well maybe not see, more ghost thieves in WvW?
If you are going to make an alternative for WvW players to unlock commander tags you should have the requirements be something that is done in WvW only.

I’m also curious why there wasn’t a change to ghost thief skills, that’s gotten more forum interest than epidemic ever has.
You are still going to have skilled condi gank squads, even ones that can counter resistance. This just prevents spamming epi on doors, siege and those with resistance.
In two months, or two server re-links, you will finally settle according to your “activity” level.
So for the next two months:
Expect to be in matchups you don’t belong.
Expect to be linked with a server that doesn’t get your population close to the others in your tier. (see above)
Expect several “Manually adjust TC’s glicko” threads, which will turn into matchup threads and get moderated.

Change to stability, static field affecting only 10 and resistence made dropping a well bomb practically useless.

I prefer the hammer train meta. There was stuns with stun breaks/stability counter, might stacked frontline with protection/invuln counter or blasted water fields, and also wells with walking out of the red circle counter. It was so much better then any meta WvW has seen.

Resistance does the same thing except the Necro has a counter play. It just happens that resistance allows for the massive buildup of condis that a skilled counter play of corrupt boon epi bombs destroys. It’s time for the resistance side to counter the condi side because if you nerf epidemic then what’s the counter to resistance???
Some more random thoughts:
1. Are you going to count player-hours when in spawn?
2. Way back before squads there were parties and I remember someone in my party logged out of GW2 from the WvW map and their blue dot stayed on the map for some time. Is there a difference in terms of player-hours between logging out of GW2 inside a WvW map and using a portal to go to Lion’s Arch?
3. Should you count player-hours when you are outmanned?
Is there a /age type command you can use in WvW to figure out your own player-hours for the match?
Yak’s Bend is among the highest worlds in terms of play hours and ranks gained, which is the primary metric we use to determine which worlds we lock each week.
Does this mean that a player who plays 8hours with exp boosters can count for a lot of spaces within the server? My question being, do exp boster effect server population?……………
Good point. Given that they measure ranks gained, they most certainly would skew the population measure.
Everyone stop taking experience boosters if you want your servers opened.
They used to measure ranks gained, now it’s used for comparison between servers.
So in the past, if your server had a lot of ktraining blobs gaining ranks, your server would be full.
If your server was full of a mix of PvP players and PPT havoc/small squads, your server was likely to be open.
I think if you close EotM, you might have even fewer players in the mists.
I look at EotM as the rookie league, and WvW as the equivalent to sPvP’s diamond league.
If you force new players into diamond league you won’t have many that stay there long.
Of course Anet would have the numbers of PvE players that went to EotM and moved on to WvW to stay and how many jumped directly from PvE and stayed.

I just thought that this adjustment might discourage four types of playstyles that are boring to play against.
1. The siege humping PPT style
2. The bait the enemy into siege range style
3. The attack only when you outnumber style
4. The map queue blob style
After I thought about this for a while, since BG is known for gaming the WvW system, I’d think they’d try to get their server open by having “wear no armor” raid weeks.

Also, since you’re re-evaluating your activity level algorithm, does this mean that you are going to review when a server is considered “full”?
Now if you could only find a way to weed out the AFK population and the achievement population from the “active” WvW population.
We need more power creep.
Add another mastery line that adds an extra skill for siege where the siege is immune to conditions and another where you cleanse conditions from the siege.
Better still, add a skill where you transfer the conditions on your next hit.

Our primary motivation for avoiding running another tournament, is that at the end of every tournament we saw a permanent dip in the number of players playing WvW. Presumably this was due to players burning themselves out during the tournament.
However, we can still run a poll to see if the majority of the community wants another 4 week tournament, even if it might be bad for the long term WvW population numbers. Though even if ‘running another tournament’ won the poll, we’d probably hold off until we get the scoring updates in.

Anet hasn’t done anything to help a server that’s in TC’s current state. NOW or BEFORE.
You have more choices NOW then other servers had THEN.
1. Wait and hope for a link (This wasn’t an option way back then)
2. Transfer off ( Heard this many times from servers that bought guilds off my server)
3. Buy guilds ( a favorite of T1 servers, except when full)
4. Recruit from PvE (This is my favorite response)
5. Take a break from the game. (Another good one)
6. Play EotM (Like WvW players would spend weeks in EotM)
7. QQ to Anet to get manual glicko adjustment (This usually gets responses from 1-6)
8. Quit the game
It’s ironic that you are complaining about population imbalance and glicko locking you into a bad matchup. FA has twice been where you are now. Once when you and your “alliance” moved to YB and the second time when you moved to TC. While I don’t speak for FA I’m sure there’s many that were on FA the first time and others that were also there for the second that feel that you deserve all the karma you’re getting.

My solution would be for the claiming guild to have the option to “authorize” specific guilds they trust to have tactivator access. For example:. Uncheck public use. Check box for “Trusted Guilds” and type in the tag:. FoC, VII, and WOLF.
Reasonable safety and security while keeping usage available to hopefully enough people that it stays useful.
An easier solution, one that can be done without coding, is to invite all the officers and key players in FoC, VII and WOLF into each other’s guilds so one of them can switch to the guild that has claimed the structure.
I just don’t see how a coordinated blasted light field (stack, drop light field and no others, blast), taking in all the delays in reaction time, are going to be a counter to a coordinated condi bomb.
I’d like an option to auto use skills when they are the most effective instead of when I actually use them.

I thought that Anet said that it was scrapped because it kept getting bigger and bigger, until someone woke up and realized that they really need to work on PvE and sPvP.
They then decided to move the WvW team to the xpac and living story and only do changes to WvW that were quick.
You won’t see any major WvW changes until next xpac release or later.
It’s obvious that the thief class needs more evades.
It’s funny that if you’re going to find a broken build it’s in WvW but the skill balance team only looks at sPvP and PvE.

I expect the only skills/traits to get balanced for WvW will somehow be related to tonics.
Devs play on a lot of different worlds and move around frequently and that includes the WvW team. However, the WvW team also plays together on a different random world once a week.
Have you thought about delay streaming, or putting up videos?
putting it up on a 30 minute delay stream would help mitigate people complaining that you dont care about WvW without having to actually do anything i mean setting up a stream takes 30 minutes then just 30 seconds to turn it on and off when you play
This could go a long way to improve the player-dev communications. They (Anet) could do this several different ways.
1. Choose a server and guild to run with and record your interactions with the host
2. Choose a server and run with a pugmander and record your play.
3. Choose a server and run small team and record your play.
4. Have several Anet WvW team players join up on different sides of the same map and record your play.
You can do this tagged or untagged.
You can do this once a week, sometimes on weekends, sometimes on weekdays.
Maybe the WvW team’s bosses will let them play during normal work hours so they can play during all timezones.
Each of these could be posted on the forums and you can have comments (hopefully constructive) about each video.
These could turn into a regular WvW AMA topic.

It is hysterical the people complain about BG but Mag has so MANY MORE PLAYERS it is ridiculous.
Mag can put a blob out 70 out 24/7 and BG cannot. Which has more players? Many BG WvW players that are counted, as part of the population, only play EotM and that map should not be counted.
Exaggerating doesn’t help your point at all. You should be upset at the players on your server who go to EOTM to train on underlevels. You admitted in your post that you have the numbers, but are hiding. Get in EOTM and convince them to come back. Exaggerating that Mag has 70 man blobs 24/7 won’t help one little bit.
Not exaggerating at all. I have been in T1 and saw the massive MAG blobs.
EotM DOES count for WvW and BG has whole guilds that ONLY do EotM. After all, it is easier to get your rank up, if all you do is K-Train in EotM. Those guilds will not come back. Why should they? I can’t find a good reason to persuade them to come back, due to the imbalance of the condi meta.
Besides getting WvW ranks and some achievements and the occasional supply drop, how does EotM count for WvW?
EotM isn’t calculated in WvW population levels so don’t say that.
