I think some of the problems we’ve seen in the past is the Devs buff classes and simultaneously nerf ohters, when one or the other method is needed.
Eles > everyone
Eles get nerfed, other classes get buffed
Everyone > Eles.
Where as:
Eles > Everyone
Eles get nerfed
Eles = Everyone
If they buff us and shave others then we will once again be better then everyone and you will have QQ on our forums about OPness.
When out power level drops below 9000 and everyones elses goes over 9000 at the same time, you end up with what we have now. Making everyone’s power level 9001 would be true balance, though hard to achieve.
Some times it can be hard to de-level one profession whist trying to improve another and you can overlook that the powered up profession is now much greater then the powered down one.
Remember that Necros and Warriors have been sub par for a very long time, and its good to finally be able to battle one without having a guaranteed win.

Yeah I found sPvP irregularly easy…the class I had trouble against was a couple engineers..I swear the people I faced last night sucked. I hardly had to do the dance and they kept running

0 15 0 25 30 was my original build, zerkers with doom sigil. Watch the old FOTM eles melt away as they couldn’t handle being burst and poisoned at the same time.
As to the quality of players, I was in a few 5v5 matches (hot join) and the enemies there seemed to be pretty new. Me and a warrior went to attack another warrior and a engineer. I sig of earthed 1 and he bolased the other and well lets just say the following 100 blades + dragons tooth – phoenix was spectacular.
Eventually me and my friend started playing a few games. Had some nice 2v3 and 2v4s where we could hold our own, but eventually we found some harder guys to beat. The 2v2 was fine, it was when their thief friend showed up that everything went down hill.
The health regeneration on Dolyak is so very bad (30 per second if I recall correctly, does not work with healing power)
Divinities is expensive, but gives a good amount of crit damage.

You could always get 5x doylak + 1x some other stat.
SnD is a fad. You will soon get sick of it and realise why 0/10/0/30/30 is still the best way to go.

is there nothing that can be done to merge the EU and NA PvP? like, if not a merge (lag issues would be intense), then maybe work on allowing PvPers to guest on EU (or NA if they’re european) on off-peak hours, kinda like GW1 districts.

Well it means that we get at best 200 ms to America. Those of us not living where the fibre has been laid (and if said guys get in wont be laid) we have 300-500 ms to America. Lagg I deal with it, I’m sure you could too.
People who play 8v8 can also be looking to play TDM.
You must also remember that hot join contains 5v5 servers as well. While every now and then there is a zerg match, 5v5 servers are a lot less TDM and more conquest then 8v8 servers are.
To get rid of Hot join you would ruin the pvp experience of many players. You would also be spawning many more 4v5 matches as some people want to play a “Casual Game”. Also, in solo Q you cannot change team. There have been many matches where our team was winning due to 5v4 and I team changed to boost up the enemy teams points. Why? fairness, fun, to show our team who think they are good that the only reason they are winning is due to unbalanced teams.
In halo / cod, an unbalanced team will favour the team with less players. In GW2 an unbalanced team favours the team with more. Upon entering hotjoin I know I’m likely to get a match that is not 5v5. Upon entering SoloQ I expect to get a 5v5.
In Hot join I can run whatever build I like, wether it be good, bad or no traits at all. In solo Q I must run the FOTM build for my class or else be called a noob by everyone there (even if my build is better then the FOTM build). I must play the game a certain way, I can’t play my way. Me and my friend came from Aion, from one of the larger oceanic pvp guilds. He will not even go into team Q anymore due to having to play a certain way with a certain build. It gets boring.
In hot join we can both run around with flame axe ele builds and fend of 3-5 enemies continually.
I can run tank ele and he can run support ele and we can fend of 8 enemies for a whole match.
We can play our way and we can have fun doing it.
The only reward I take from GW2 pvp is fun. Everyone else and their complaining, sure it would be nice to take some gold home to buy whatever it is you people buy, but in the end if I have fun then I’m satisfied. I don’t need a new skin (I have phoenix from shop, find me something that looks better. btw female human, preview that on your female human). I don’t need a new finisher, good old flag pole is fine.
I think you will change your mind if they funnel the hot join players into solo q. Though I suppose if your up the ladder it wouldn’t affect you that much, you and your high rank buddies could just go ahead and smash lowbies all day long with the current match making system in place. Meanwhile in low rank town you will have leavers left right and center and will diminish the overall pvp population further.
I can handle necros and warriors with D/F as well. Focus in general seems vital against the current condition/stun meta. However if I get caught with my pants down against a cheese mace warrior (mist form, earth armor, and arcane shield all on cooldown) I stand no chance. But I guess that is any class against such a broken spec.

The ele burst is pretty much undodgable and is aoe. Again its bad atm just because s/d thief just owns them and condi spam owns them. It doesn’t change that the damage is way too high. 1 shotting people isnt a good thing.
Are we playing the same game? I think we mustn’t be. Ele burst is aoe that’s new, undodgable, also new to me.

Undodgable, no. Eles burst is dodgable, however you have to predict it as the tell is not as visual as every other move in the Ele moveset. That is fully related to Fresh Air and the lightning strikes. The other parts of their burst is very possible to dodge.
The elementalist “thing” that they do is healing. Necros have 2x health pools, mesmers have invisibility and clones, thieves have stealth etc etc. Eles have healing. Going into a GC spec works you away from your “thing” (less healing, less sustain, I mean com’on we already have the lowest health pool, where is our 2nd health bar?) whereas other classes can still get theirs (backstab thieves for example).
If anything the ele should have more trade off. Specking away from healing should increase damage / conditions more then it does. Specking into healing should less their damage a little further

R0-10 → no gold
R10-20 → low
R20-30 → med
R30-40 → high
Same with achievements.
People are like “no, pvers will come to get free achievement points”

Mediocre achievements, 10-20
High reward achievements 20+
So if they want easy achievement points they actually have to play the game.

You go to solo que. Why is everyone afraid of solo que? The rating system puts you in matches with people who are of similar skill as you.

However, while I don’t want to see 8v8s removed, I would like to for Anet to make finding a 5v5 more intuitive and easy, especially for new players.
Starting up PvP for the first time, trekking through the tutorial area, pressing Play Now and getting thrown into an 8v8 zerg match can be overwhelming.
“Play 5v5 Now” AND “Play 8v8 Now” buttons would be a nice option. Even if the list of filters defaultly had 5v5 servers. There are still people that don’t even know you can 5v5 outside of solo q / team q.

After pondering the traits I decided to try out LH with Lava Tomb against people’s protests.
I’ve had more success in beating necroes and stun-warriors with Lightning Hammer than trying to fancy Fresh Air burst my way through their tankiness and Death Shroud or Healing Signet. Too bad LH isn’t always up.Believe it or not, even Lava Tomb had been nerfed.
It used to have no cool-down and Vapor Form once functioned differently with the downed state so you could beat anyone 1vX as long as they are downed.
I can take down necros and some stun break warriors with my S/F aura build. Some warriors I have trouble with, but the general FOTM builds I take down quite easily. Necros pose almost no threat to me unless I’m out numbered, then its decide weather I should just drop the necro for the lols or get out of there.
Lava tomb got nerfed to its new cool down, but does 33% more damage now.
My favourite thing about the ele was when RTL didn’t lock your skills, so you could RTL into a foe, then sceptre 2 and 3 them on the way.
@Vyx, they buying gear of the TP is for less skilful players, the ones that get killed a lot.

Good 8v8 GvG would be on Foefire with the NPC’s health buffed and no point control.
Win clause is kill the enemies lord, however you would have to kill the guards first. Some shield generators on the points could be added to try to limit zerging enemy lords.
I find this kind of build to be much better in a non condition meta as the protection duration is very high.
Currently I run a 20 15 10 15 10 build utilising signets but for spvp. The trait setup you have is what I used to use to beat D/D bunkers in spvp (however I used S/F and still do and a lot different gear wise)
For WvW I would suggest signet of earth, the immobilise is very good and if your foe doesn’t condition clear it you could get off a churning earth or earthquake.
Ether heal, while tacking away from your signet synergy will help with condition removal.
With your boon duration and the D/D set keeping 100% boon uptime should be no problem and you get a nice boost to your armour of earth proc.
Sigil of battle would help boost your damage and sigil of bloodlust if you don’t die often.
Personally I like Sigil of Doom to wear my opponents down. But that’s personal

+1. Also think about the GW1 dishonourable system, lesser warnings, lesser stackable punishment. 5 chances to troll a game every 24 hours is too much get out of jail free.
GW1 was 2 leaves is a 10 min punishment + 10 minutes to remove the stack of dishonour points. Bring back leach report and the GW1 way it was handled.
1. Remove 8v8 Hotjoin OR move 8v8 hotjoin servers to be lower priority then 5v5 hotjoin
2. Split glory / rank points between enemies killing a player, so if 5-8 people gang up on 1 foe they all get less points
3. Bring back GW1 dishounerably system, punish earlier but lesser stackable punishment. Also included a report afk feature that handled false reports.
4. Do not take rank from people losing a <5 v 5 solo or team q. Make people leaving lose rank.
5. Ignore the negative feed back (the troll ones of course), there are a lot of people here who want to see you succeed and many posts with positive feed back and good solutions to some problems. GIGO, Garbage In Gems Out, find those treasures.
So ignore “this game suxxx!!!”
But listen to “this game sucks, here is why, here is some solutions”

What’s wrong with selfless daring?
It’s 129 heal on dodge roll with a 0.5 Healing Power coefficient.
For any build not using a Healing Power gear (pretty much needed in order to deal “decent” damage), that’s going to be 280 heal on dodge roll at best.Why do you need to avoid healing power to do decent damage? Ask a few eles how it works.
Might stacking and Crit, Power & Crit Damage. Healing can still be up there, but not as much as heal bunker.
+1 vote toward 8v8 being removed OR 5v5 hotjoin being top of the server list.
If 8v8 was removed people could still create custom arenas to cater to 8v8.

People need to stop being over the top and just wait. Anet has always delivered in the end, and previously stated that no game changing changes would happen during their tournament. Now that it is over we can expect a balance patch next week on the 2 week update cycle.

Does pvp generate money?: No (well I’ve personally put over $1000 into this game and I pretty much only play pvp so … possibly).

GW1 Dishonourable, a much better system. Lesser “warnings” but lesser punishment that stacks.
People who stay in a <5 v 5 should be rewarded (something, perhaps not rank), not their fault someone else left, not only that but there is no resign so they are forced to stay. Not losing rank is necessary.
I really enjoy the PvE elements of PvP, who would have thought I could get PvE in PvP, just amazing.
The implementation was a silly idea. Having a slightly longer cool down but the same wether you hit or not would have been much better. Try playing from here in Australia, RTL almost never hits unless under 600 range and then it still can fail.

Another fun thing you can do if you die a lot (esp in melee) is to put points into fire and get lava tomb. When you go down, the thing your fighting does too.
As to thief levelling, I told my friend it would be hard, and he was like “its so easy”. Now he’s level 40 and well, its hard.
I also have shift 1-4 bound to attunement swap, but the amount of times I link skills out of bad habits is annoying.

5 skills in air and water to interrupt? Are we playing the same game or did I miss something?
I count 3 and 2 of those require you to see your target (but will still hit if they stealth during the cast). Shocking aura is really good, though a non kitten thief will just wait for you to waist it and remain hidden till its gone. Same with invulnerability, though they can generally just spam 1 till it runs out.

Lower levels it helps a lot.
Though I hit level 60 content with level 20 gear … so …. That’s what you get for levelling to 60 not leaving a level 20 zone. If one of your friends say he is going to reroll every 2 seconds, just level without him.
Orr would have been fun for you with that 60 gear.

Yes, we got alot of nerfs, but if you know the class you can still do alot of dmg and survive.
Because some of us play pvp where there are less stats and next to no ability to deviate from a fixed stat set.

5 arcane gives you a crap tonne of fury (esp with fresh air)
10 nets you perma vigor or boons on swap weapons.At least consider that.
So I would go something like:
0 30 10 20 10I think that the 10 in earth would be better suited in water. You can gain quite a bit of condi removal from choosing Cleansing Water while there isn’t much from 10 in earth sans Earth’s Embrace.
I play SPvP, so Cleansing Water has a horrible cd attached. Also depending upon what heal he uses will tell you how much he can cleanse. 0 unless he takes Glyph of Elemental Harmony and / or Elemental attunement.
As fresh air is burst, 10 in earth opens up Stone Splinters. +10% damage when in main hand dagger range.
His utilities will most likely be Arcane Blast + Wave + Lightning Flash. So cleansing water would give nothing to this build.
While everything you said is true in sPvP, the OP stated that he’d like a build for WvW roaming and zerg, which would make the condi removal from Cleansing Water much more useful due to the AoE condi spam found in WvW.
Going for a full burst build in WvW = death. You need a bit of sustain.
True, however he is using S/D and seems to have no intention on using any points in arcane. That makes his access to regen = 0. No regen, no condition removal.
Scepter / Dagger has no access to regen within the weapon set. Utilities have no regen unless traited and for a burst build arcane skills would most likely be taken, no regen is achievable though that. Finally his heal, if he takes the Glyph heal then cleansing water would work but only when he healed in water. Seems like such a waist to take a grandmaster trait for something that he may not use.
While Cleansing water is a powerful trait however in this situation it is near useless.

If you are going to take cantrips and Soothing Disruption then cleansing water would be very good here, probably better then arcane 10.
The main reason I mention 10 in arcane is because of the 5 arcane trait.
5 in arcane is the main thing that you might be interested in with 2 seconds of fury on swap, remembering that you swap a considerable amount with fresh air.

When duelling a non condition build: signet (because having 20 seconds of protection all the time is ridiculous).How do you get 20 second protection?
Combination of Written in Stone+Fire’s Embrace+Elemental Shielding+boon duration increase. Each of your 4 signets will grant you 3 seconds+increase of protection. Then you have potential auras from your weapon skills and combo finishers. Unfortunately, this build falls off hard in higher level play due to its inefficient condition removal and lack of stunbreakers if you don’t bring Signet of Air, but it probably has some use in PvE.

My current build is used for hot join pvp 5v5 and lower ranked solo q (as I only play it to find less silly people, and people who want to play conquest not TDM).
However I only have 10 points in earth and counter productively I use S/F instead of D/D. Though earth sig + dragons tooth + 10% condition duration = win if they don’t have condition cleanse or melendrus … waits for rock dog … dragon tooths enemy.
With 4x earth runes and 2x monk you can get 35% -b-o-o-n- protection duration (I only run 10 in arcane, 15 in water is much better for me then 20 in arcane) which is 4 seconds per signet, 5 per 30 seconds on hit and about 8? from earth swap. Taking 3 signets and focuses fire shield when using the skills perfectly you have near 100 % protection fury and swiftness uptime. When swapping ether heal with signet heal and moving an additional 10 into earth (signet cool down) you can have 20 seconds of protection at any one time just from playing normally.
The build good vs some of the builds other eles have trouble with and was one of the 2 build I would run to defeat the D/D bunker, D/D power builds. However there are builds that other eles deal with fine that this has troubles with.
Used magnetic grasp (leap part) in the clock tower point on a foe who jumped down and got slung back and forth for 5 seconds unable to do anything else other then teleport.

Played another character, started a move in 1 weapon set, changed weapons during and wondered why the skill was cancelled.
pretty sure in the next patch they are changing 90% of our traits to function while attuned to potato..
Tatter attunement, gotta watch out for that, you might get boiled, mashed or stuck into a stew. Think I might have to make a Hobbit Runekeeper of the Tatter.

We need something that does more damage the lower our hp is. Then we can go with a bang. That would be so awesome for kamikaze. Like a supernova explosion or something

Yea, lava tomb is a good one, if you can live long enough in down you can use your mist form to proc another.
33% damage + lava tomb, anyone in that being held by grasping earth = dead. It’s actually funny that you seem to do more damage with this then you do when your up.

Not everyone can do everything, a recurring theme with ANet’s game design. However, it is logical design to an extent. If everyone profession could do damage healing and tanking then what would be the point of making alternative class?
However, while most the other classes have their niches, elementalist niche is to do everything and have more skills then everyone. So everything we have is shafted.
In all honesty, the elementalist could be a great profession once again with a tweak or 2 here and their.
Our armour, health, healing, dps, support and movement (just to name a few) have all been shafted so you don’t out perform other classes. Imagine if we could do similar damage to a thief and also do our healing, or if we could out bunker a guardian and also out dps him. Why would anyone play those classes?
Unfortunately to add to our other disadvantages is the skill cap the elementalist requires. Many other professions are spam and forget. I can play a spirit ranger whilst watching my favourite TV show, but to lose concentration for a second with the ele is near certain death. I’m not saying other classes and other builds don’t require skill, but there are some very good performing builds that are set and forget, that can perform much better then we can and don’t have to put much effort into their play style.
The elementalist has 2x as many weapon skills as other professions, but is that an advantage or a dis advantage. Remember those other professions have 2 weapon sets, so 10 skills but multiple combinations. As an ele we are forced to take 20 skills related to our weapon set. So a warrior could take a long bow and his mace shield but us eles have to decide ranged or melee, support or damage within our build as there is no, “oh hes kiting me switch to range weapon” for us. With 20 skills comes the balancing as well, our damage, healing and boon support through weapons is lower then other classes weapons. While we have some good skills with high damage, in the end they are either hard to land (Dragons Tooth, phoenix to an extent) and on long cooldowns (phoenix, shower of the meteor, fire grab).
Combined with our slow cool down skills are skills that seem to be either useless or in serious need of repair. Take for example the focus, while a powerful weapon, to get it’s full power you must use it in the very right place. Looking down fire we have Fire Shield, which has a cool down the same as frosty aura but is nowhere near as good. Gaining 5 stacks of might and 5 seconds of burning (vs 1 other foe, more when there are more around) doesn’t seem like a good ability for a 40 second cool down. Frosty Aura lasts an extra 2 seconds, grants a better condition and reduces incoming damage by 10% and shares the cool down.
I believe if you take away some of the passive play, the petting zoo and increase the else power by a little (mainly tweaking the weapons to make them all viable for all the gametypes) we could have a decent class the could stand up to other players.
Currently passive play, hiding in minons and abusing the broken stealth mechanics are ruining pvp and are probably worse in WvW (esp against new players). I would much rather see a Skill vs Skill game, not a “I summoned a bunch or crap and auto attack dodged you to death, I so leet”, or “I can hit you with 8k every 4 seconds and you can’t see me do it” type of game.
If you are levelling I would suggest saving for the Elemental Elite. Fiery Greatsword is fun and good for moving around the map, though the elemental can help to get you out of upchuck lane when you have no floaties on.
Also elites are Level 30 so you still would have 10 levels to go.
So
Warrior > Spirit Ranger > everyone else?

WvW warrior with skullcrack build will get /gkick in 10 min. This build is terrible for guild purposes. May be good for some roaming, but roaming is not a big deal at all.

I also feel useless against S/D thieves, though my build is nothing but boon generation.
As to stun warriors, it depends on the players build. What works in my build is Poison. That helps me to reduce some of their incoming heals from Signet Heal.
Using invulnerability, my 3 blinds and stun break at the right time also help me.
I wouldn’t say the ele was over powered. It was definitely powerful.
A lot of people would see D/D bunkers with their cantrips and laughable wet noodles then not even recognize when a D/D was running Zerkers and their sponge cake bodies but powerful hits.
So the 2 got merged into 1 and it became:
Eles can heal tank damage and roam at the same time NERFF!!!
Mean while Eles could heal and tank or damage and roam, 2 separate builds.
To wrap up the story, the devs followed everyone’s conjecture now we have this sorry state. I’m still here, still playing my ele, though in hot joins now and soloq sometimes.
How to make sPvP matter:
Favour of the Gods.
PvErs can’t do anything high level without favour of the gods.
Favour of the gods is earned in pvp.
Oh … wait … that’s Guild Wars 1 my bad, that good idea was scratched for Guild Wars 2. Dunno why.
When did GvG become 20v20?
GW1 style GvG = 8v8 kill the enemy priest in yours or their guild hall.
10 in Arcane.
5 arcane gives you a crap tonne of fury (esp with fresh air)
10 nets you perma vigor or boons on swap weapons.At least consider that.
So I would go something like:
0 30 10 20 10I think that the 10 in earth would be better suited in water. You can gain quite a bit of condi removal from choosing Cleansing Water while there isn’t much from 10 in earth sans Earth’s Embrace.
I play SPvP, so Cleansing Water has a horrible cd attached. Also depending upon what heal he uses will tell you how much he can cleanse. 0 unless he takes Glyph of Elemental Harmony and / or Elemental attunement.
As fresh air is burst, 10 in earth opens up Stone Splinters. +10% damage when in main hand dagger range.
His utilities will most likely be Arcane Blast + Wave + Lightning Flash. So cleansing water would give nothing to this build.
I duelled a thief in pvp for a comp, it killed me within 2 seconds.
Second round I lasted 4 seconds due to invulnerability.
The game actually started, he stealthed for 20 seconds and then came and killed me. As he became visible I saw the high might stacks and realised I had let my protection run out, but still, quite painful.
