I would like to see more support for “Specialised Elementalists”

Basically make all lesser then they are now. The more you spec into a tree the greater your powers with that tree become. Specing arcane would make all skills lower then they are now but much better then without.

Speccing fire would make fire stronger then now and make it cool down a lot quicker (not stacking)

etc . etc . etc.

RTL is only 40s if you use it as mobility. The CD is 20s if you damage something with it.

The cd is always 40s when you don’t live in America.

Losing passive effect from signet

I would say probably intended, as you aren’t actually activating the signet, it’s getting interrupted. The activated action happens after the skill is fired (see when the fire aura is applied).

What’s more annoying is that signets (an I assume most cast skills in general) cannot be cast backwards in anticipation of your foe being in front of you when they go off as the skill will fail an go on cd (the target check happens when using the skill not at the end of the skill where it should). What’s more annoying then that is if you have no target the signet will still give you a fire shield (and buffs) before going on cd.

The class is in some serious need of love and buffs. Im looking specifically at you, staff.

We have a focus too! And it’s actually worse!
0 healing abilities, terrible damage scaling, ridiculous cooldowns and bad conditions. The only actual + is projectile defense and invulnerability(so I guess it’s kinda good vs rangers… maybe).
At least staff has some nice combo fields and AoE damage. It’s actually useful in WvW.

Noob question about weapon damage

Sorry if this has been asked before , have done a quick search and found similar topics but no definitive answer.

Elementalists do damage with our spells, we never actually “hit” anyone with our weapons, we do damage based on the spell effect which have damage numbers already

Now I know which combinations of weapons give different skills to use, my question is, aside from the +stats a weapon may give us, does that actual weapon damage mean anything to the affective damage of our spells? If so in what way, the damage never seems anywhere near the damage range.

From a Lore perspective think of it as your weapon channels / focuses your magical powers. So the better the weapon the more power you can channel / focus.

I’m so sorry you can’t 3v1 people anymore, maybe you should realize youre class is now what they call “Balanced”.

Ele is a very high skill celling class, pro’s do extremely well, and new players get destroyed.

Your friend probably didn’t have any idea of how Op Eles were at WvW.

Ele can stealth when the Mist Form bugs (visual bug, doesn’t show the mist correctly) out. But they are invulnerable in it anyway so it wouldn’t have mattered either way.

2.Targeting system – something is very wrong here. It’s hard enough to target for example necro or ranger, but even if you ménage to do it, if you dodge an attack or they do it you just lose the target and find yourself hitting a pet. In the previous game I played, you could right-click target someone and it was far easier. There were right-click options “Follow, Attack and Report” with the name of the player. And you were keeping them targeted till one of you both is dead. Here it’s a mess. Especially when both teams fight for a point and there is a bunch of pets and summons.

3. The minimap – I don’t know what exactly happened but it was okay before and now I can’t understand anything. I always run to the opposite to where I want to go, the minimap looks absolutely useless at the moment.

2.Targeting system
Check your settings. Find the one that says Right Click Targeting and disable it now. (NOW!!!). This will be the bain of your PvP existence. What does it do you ask? Well it makes right click work similar to left click which does several things: 1, You can right click foes and target / talk / interact and 2, it make it so right click untargets people if you press it once (for example you tried to move your camera and released to quickly).

Also most classes that can exploit pets can stealth (Mesmers, Rangers, Thieves, and even though no pets … engineers). Stealthing needs to be looked at IMO but it also makes you lose target.

3. The minimap
This was a recent update. I haven’t had a chance to play since it was changed but it has been requested by many players (so they could actually see what points were under attack when standing not at mid). It will take some getting used to

4. Working for the team is not awarded
It is rewarded, when with a team of people who want to be on a team. Most people in hotjoin don’t give too hoots about you and your build, they just want to kill things (in a conquest gametype … and usually get more points killing things … what?).

Running a support type build puts you in a bad place. Instead of them following you (unless you are playing with a team you know and know your build) you have to follow them or tell them at the start (prepare to be called a noob) what build your running and ask them to follow you (usually the worst of the 2 ideas).

Final tip
Create a filter and search for 5v5. 8v8 is a mess.

Scepter
Dragon’s Tooth — Function Issue
Deals no damage if player has been stunned, feared, knocked down, or downed in combat after the cast bar has left the screen but before the tooth lands.

This bug is so stupid, the amount of times a get a perfect D/T then get interrupted, interrupting my current action AND my dragon tooth that I have paid full cost for an used a skillful method to actually have the enemy below it.

Can we have some bug fixes in the patches please Anet? Some of these things have been bugged since release. Your meta cannot advance this way. Eventually you will fix all the current bugs and have all sorts of other balance issues on your hands. You push forward balance changes and class reworks every month but don’t seem to push the bug fixes. Are these bugs extremely hard to fix, or do you prioritize giving Necros burning (for example).

Thankyou for you time, if you read here, but lets have some bug fixes and see what happens (also lessen spirit rangers, or make them require some skill).

Chain Lightning up to 5 targets (how cool would that be)

No. If something, Air needs more single target damage, even on staff, imo.

Dueling Builds for sPvP?

Watch out for Mesmer’s. Be cautions on high boon builds as many thieves run S/D in 1v1 situations (boon stealing). Mesmer’s, Ranger (spirit) and Thief (S/D).

Most other builds I don’t have too much trouble with. Though I went down so quickly to a power ranger yesterday (the red one)

As everybody here is playing necro now, I feel like this is the right place to ask for this.

Well if the goal of your necro build is to kill ele’s, you really don’t have to bother spec’ing traits. They just drop.

Your doing something wrong if you can’t take on a Necro

You must be fighting condition necros.

There’s another kind?

That explains a lot about your posts right there. Without even fully stacking might a power necro can hit you for 4-7k with auto attacks. With real attacks it gets even worse and there are multiple combos you have to burn a cooldown to avoid. So your 12k hitpoint ele can talk the talk, but not much more than that when two auto attacks can flatten you.

It does, its says … “I don’t play WvW at all”, which is true. Meanwhile in sPvP power necros can’t stack that much damage so they don’t exist.

Edit:
That would be a nice 4-7k they would be hitting themselves with, say goodbye to your Death Shroud. Or a nice 2-4k with my protection, but again, I don’t play wvw.

What i want to see for an ele

My build revolves around auras and protection. However the only aura that this works with is Fire Aura which is not as good as the other auras.

I would like to see more access to the others, but cds I think is the wrong way about it (shocking aura already has a 25 second cd and wrecks melee classes).

The only Aura that could use a change or cd reduction is Fire Shield (focus fire 5) as it has a 40 seconds cd and is no where near as potent as Frosty (same cd) or Lightning aura (15 seconds less).

Scepter is the only weapon that doesn’t have access to an aura (it does through off hand). As it stands it looks difficult to jam an aura in there, though it would be nice to get 2 auras when not using D/D.

Something like a trait: Staff and Scepter now have an additional aura, Scepter: Gain frosty aura when using Trident (or gain fire aura when using phoenix). Staff: Gain fire aura when using Burning Retreat.

Of course with the above suggestion balancing would be an overall nerf to auras (2x frost aura when using S/D would be over the top).

I find it interesting that it procs once, probably as that is considered a single spread attack. I think the 7×5 burning is interesting, since those each count as separate attacks and don’t factor into AoE limit but are under a single umbrella attack. 7×5 burning + the condi increase from the bow would make for an interesting build to say the least, but you have to be on top of your opponent to proc 7×5. I’m not sure if that is intended, as Meteor Shower/Chain Lightning/etc. are also single skills and do not work the same way with Arcane Power/Elemental Surge, to my knowledge.

Yea, if you can land the Deep Freeze getting point blank should be no problem. However, due to it being a condition meta, so many enemies run with condition cleanse and a 35 second burn would be wiped away quickly.

Newbie Elementalist PVP question

Condition Meta can be hard (on everyone) but there are a few options to get out of conditions. First up is the heal.

Either Renewal is a good heal for the condition meta. However if you get interrupted during you will lose the healing skill all together. As your skill increase you will learn to use blinds and interrupts to cover a portion of the heal.

For starters however I would recommend Armour of Earth or the auto Armour of Earth trait (earth III?). When you see the auto Armour pop, that is a good time to use your heal as you will be covered by stability.

For general pvp there are 3 (more then this but 3 basic) roles for PvP.
Bunker: The bunker is the bones of your team. Built defensively the bunker holds onto the point so the enemy cannot take it for themselves. For a point to be uncapped an enemy player must stand on a point for a certain amout of time when no other play from your team is on the point. Additionally, Invulnerability and Stealth effects remove you from counting towards that point, so a bunker with a lot of invulnerability skills is pretty useless.

Roamer: Roamers are the legs of the group. They respond to help requests of the other team members. They have builds that utilize high mobility and higher damage (to help rid enemy players) quickly. A roamer generally runs between the points and does not hang around too long when there are no enemy players nearby.

Spiker: Spikers are the Claws of the team. Their job is to very quickly dispose of the enemy bunker. As I don’t play this position I won’t comment further as I’m not to familiar with what they do when not spiking.

3 States of the Points:
Allied: A capped point will confer points towards your team and will be distinguishable by the point having your teams colour.

Neutral: If not defended a point will quickly neutralise. It takes much longer for an enemy to “cap” the point then to just neutralise it. There are some strategies that revolve around decaping (aka neutralising) the point and then leaving as it is quick and prevents the enemy from having points during that time.

Enemy: Enemy controlled points confer points to their team and can be distinguished by the colour (being the enemies colour). While a foe remains on the point (but not invulnerable or sheathed) you cannot cap the point. You will first have to dispatch the enemy or physically push them off.

Hot8v8 Hot5v5 Soloq Teamq
Hot8v8: This is usually the first game you are throw into (unless choosing the others). From experience this is a zergy crap gametype and of you want to be good at pvp you’ll only use it for build testing against multiple foes. This gametype will possible make you want to rage quit or feel like a god (depending on which side of the zerg you are on).

Hot5v5: A lot more clean then the 8v8, here you will find a few less zergy game types as the general people in 5v5s choose to be there. Counter intuitively, 5v5s are hard to find by default. Setup a filter, chose 5v5 for team size and rename the filter to 5v5. Click 5v5 on the left of the browser and click refresh, presto 5v5 games. Again counter intuitively Anet has listed spectators in these games so they will look like 10v10. Just find one with less then 10 people and have fun. 5v5s are generally the stepping stone to Soloq, however you will still find games with people duelling or zerging from time to time. To get straight into an 8v8 press the Play Now button.

SoloQ: Solo Q can only be entered by yourself, works off a hidden rating and tries to best match you with a team and opposing team of 5 people around the same rank. Currently there are some bugs and glitches with this system but in my several games I haven’t become too frustrated yet. Anet also say they are working on the system currently.

TeamQ: This is the pinnacle of PvP for GW2 (unless you go into one of those cash prize tourneys). This gamemode requires a team of 5 people, but currently doesn’t have a fixed roster (such as wow). This is similar to soloq in that it will try to best match you with another team of the same rating.

As to which build:
Spiker / Roamer would be Fresh Air x 30 x x 30 (where x can be filled by the 10 free points)

Bunker would be D/D tanky build. 0 10 0 30 30 or 0 10 10 20 30
Staff is not so good in pvp, can be used as a niche support weapon, but that will require at least 1 other person to play with you who understands the staff as well. (0 0 10 30 30)

Other players will have to fill you in on the specific details of the above builds, as I usually run crazy setups.

I am talking about vending prizes. It is redicilous. I feel so ripped off by every vendor in game that I’d like to take a minute to cry out loud here. I vended an infused for 4,80 silver. Feels awesome!!!! (Not). What is wrong with the vending prizes? If I could vend a infused on tp I’d get at least 5-10G for it. 4 silver? Really? Thanks Anet!

GW1 had specialty vendors who would trade at a similar price to the current “market” (supply and demand) from memory (such as Rune and Dye vendors).

I’d rather they add body blocking. Would give smaller races a natural disadvantage and make positioning a lot more important. Doubt it will ever happen though.

There is body blocking for projectiles. I think Asura are not at a disadvantage though (as there hit box is normalized).

The biggest issue with TPvP.

Then that play comes to the forum’s make a post Spirit Ranger are OP and take no skill to play. When frankly we get beaten all the time in 1v1, we have extremely hard time in team fight’s keeping our spirit’s alive against a good team (AKA A SMART PLAYER). The you try and say we have stupidly to much passive play when its very limit amount of PASSIVE play.

When I fight a spirit ranger, I open up on it’s sun spirit to take away access to burning early. By the time I have burst the sun spirit (and sorta damaged the others) I am usually dead or running for cover (that’s a Dragons Tooth and Phoenix burst on said sun spirit and it still lives …). While I have to deal with your pets you can just happily play away, the way you want to (or are forced to have to). Personally I couldn’t care less if your spirits make you OP or not, its just not fun to have to waist my burst on your crap and not just attack you.

I play for Blood, spirits don’t bleed red.

It’ll just walk right back and heal after being knocked away.

Yea, that is stupid. We had 3 guys auto attacking a downed ranger once (to see how long he would last) the lick wounds was healing a crap tonne more then the damage we were doing. So I though, lol I’ll just interrupt his pet … Nek Minute .. he’s healing again. That’s not totally broken

I still occasionally run into this problem where my pet is missing its target for no apparent reason, or where it attacks a location it thinks my opponent is when it’s really a few paces to the side.

I think the later is skill delay or lag. Ever seen an elementalist Fire Grab you from 900 yards?

3. Lightning flash+Fire grab is a great combo for landing the firegrab if a foe is already on fire

Lightning Flash + Fire Grab + Cleansing Fire when they are not on fire (or cleanse before hitting)

I just can’t picture ever being afraid of engaging a condi ele. It’s not a powerful build.

Facing a mesmer, a skilled thief or an engi in wvw? It can be quite tricky. But to say “lol today I lost to a condition ele, that build is just too much”… haha, not in a million years.

I fail to see how it even works. My ether renewal cleanses all your conditions, my anti projectile prevents you from reapplying them, and I can lightning flash out of any immobilize combo if all my other condi removals are down.

I have been using S/F for a long time now. The Dagger skills, you think they are buggy under normal situations, try adding 300-500ms to that and see how many work :/

Why is it embarrassing? I use d/f, would like a duel sometime.

The only ele I flat out admit that I can’t beat is lightningblaze. I can’t frankly remember any other ele vs ele duel in spvp or wvw. (surely it happened… but so not often that I already forgot)

Sure, Sophea of Elements ingame, if you ever see me online send a whisper (2 jobs :/). I’m, Australian as well and only play sPvP / tPvP (soloq)

Always welcome fights that can help me learn an enemy setup.

Mist form is meant as an “oh-crap” to mitigate burst damage/condi application giving you a chance to reset (slightly) and have a chance to respond. It does that pretty well, but would work even better if it were shorter on a shorter cooldown (3s on a 60s).

Exactly… Only after the recent changes, it no longer mitigates condi dmg… Fix that, and lower the cooldown to something reasonable and it will be acceptable (not great, but at least acceptable)

I’m quite certain that his never mitigated condition damage (conditions applied before entering mist form)

This has always been a bad utility, 75 second cd for a 3 second invulnerable. It was only good for healing, and even then it was still bad.

Why is Dagger autoattack damage so low?

…Burn and chill are both extremely powerful conditions, and we’re not good at maintaining those at all…

What? Have you even looked at Signet of Fire ?

With 20 points in Fire (for the +Condition Duration) and with the Signet cooldown reduction from Earth this becomes a 14.5 second burn on a 16 second cooldown.

1.5 second downtime on burn without even using Fire Attunment.

Back on topic:

The auto-attack in Air for main hand Dagger is the highest dps ability the Ele has (excluding Lightning Hammer’s auto-attack but that does not have 100% uptime so it’s tough to come up with an objective comparison).

To add to this, Frost Bow 3 can apply 35 seconds of burning (when used with arcane power and Elemental Surge) as well as its 7 second chill. With this same notion, in theory, it should be able to apply a 7 + 21 second chill. None of this takes into consideration condition duration.

I have also seen a build (some time ago) that could apply so much chill that the enemies just rage quit instead of trying to fight it.

Fire Axe can also apply a 30 second burn if used correctly.

It’s meant to be used offensively. It crits for around 1500 and lets you land big PBAoEs like Earthquake. Oh, and even though it doesn’t break stun, you can still cast it while CC’d like other instant abilities.

LF is actually my favorite cantrip. Mistform and Cleansing Fire got nerfed and Armor of Earth went from meh to worse because of it. If they want to keep Mistform the way it is, they should reintroduce stunbreak to Cleansing Fire and up the CD, or lower the CD on Armor of Earth.

Yeah I really want to get close to the enemy as the squishiest prof in the game… And don’t you dare say its great for d/d. But hey at least it crits for a lousy 1500.

Actually its really good for D/D, so is cleansing fire. Of course I don’t run a silly bunker build, I run an offensive build designed to defeat D/D bunkers (before I got kitten ed with how lag effects over half of the D/D skills)

I don’t know why they nerfed our renewing stamina trait so bad that an Mesmer 5 point minor is better or why our 25 investment isn’t 10% on hit (not on crit). Arcane doesn’t provide crit chance yet 2 traits require crits.

Is there a video of an staff elementalist doing massive amount of 1v1 and winning? I checked out the Xunleashed videos, but none of that is staff 1v1.

Give me a video of an staff Elementalist winning a 1v1 fight with a good D/P thief (like, has a build at least and know where the dodge button is). That would at least provide some proof that staff Elementalist can do 1v1 fight if you have the right skills to pull it off. Otherwise, sorry…

My friend runs Staff for sPvP and tPvP. It is a support build though, so not as effective at 1v1 (he will last a long time, but wont kill the opponent either).

Yea, my friend as in the guy that lives 2 kilometres from my house, is peved as much as I am about the lag and has been playing Staff ele in pvp since release (he also plays a S/D build with the Flame Axe as a troll build and plays a S/F signet build [my build]) even though it has been super nerfed. It was once the strongest build that an ele could spec into for support and bunker. Now its good for mid support only (or holding off for a bit).

Yes, I’m guilty of standing useless with 3 other players on a cap point – but only thrice a day. I try to avoid that for the remaining games.

I can complete all parts of the daily apart from play 3 games within 1 game without standing on the point with 3 other people.

I’m also usually the highest Neutraliser, Defender, Assaulter, Reviver and all the other tops that I miss. But I usually have the least points, because playing the gametype equals less points then playing team death match in the middle

I don’t. I spent my rank 20 glory on a huge amount of chests at one point for some reason (I think I wanted free bags and a lot of mats lol). But the ranks since then I’ve saved it, only using it for bags when I start a new toon.

  • We are planning on extending the duration of mistform to 15 seconds with a reuse timer of 5 seconds. This will balance ele’s with thieves as we have heard players do not know how use shocking auras effectively.
  • We are currently working on fixing the Mistform glitch. We will keep you posted shortly

Sorry, but not all builds have shocking aura. Now if we could just change it so signets grant auras based on their attunment.

Well if the goal of your necro build is to kill ele’s, you really don’t have to bother spec’ing traits. They just drop.

Fire: 5 trait: Sunspot: Inflict Damage at your location when attuning to fire
Fire: 15 trait: Flame Barrier: Sunspot Inflicts 1 seconds of burning has an increased area, and flame barriers current effect
Fire: 25 trait: Burning Rage: Sunspot Inflicts 2 Seconds of burning, further increased range, and burning rage’s current effect

Air: 5 trait: Electric Discharge: Strike your target with a lightning bolt
Air: 15 trait: Zephyr’s Speed: Electric Discharge grants swiftness for 5 seconds if it hits as well as 10% move speed while in air
Air: 25 trait: Weak Spot: Electric Discharge Causes 3x vulnerability + 60% chance on crit to apply vulnerability

Earth: 5 trait: Earth Blast: Damage and Cripple foes when changing to earth
Earth: 15 trait: Stone Flesh: Earth Blast grants Protection for 2 seconds if it hits, + stone Flesh’s current effect
Earth 25 trait: Enduring Damage: Earth Blast applies bleed (or even weakness) and has a larger effect (bleed is based off endurance 2 bleeds over 3 seconds for 100% endurance, 1 bleed over 3 seconds for 50% endurance), as well as Enduring Damage’s current effect

Water: 5 trait: Soothing Mists: Regenerate Health in water (stacks with regen). Healing Ripple (if unlocked) will apply regen for 3 seconds.
Water: 15 trait: Healing Ripple: Heal when switching to water (a good trait so it stays here at 15 points)
Water: 25 trait: Bountiful Power: Healing Ripple heals for 1% more health per boon as well as Bountiful Power’s current effect

Arcane: 5 trait: Arcane Fury: Gain fury for 2seconds
Arcane: 15 trait: Arcane Precision: 10% chance to apply condition on crit per attunement
Arcane: 25: Lingering Elements: For 5 seconds retain the 5 and 15 point element bonuses, for 2 seconds, retain any 10 point bonus that only affect it’s element. Note: Cool down effects do not stack with one another.

Edit:
Forgot to mention. Each of the 15 traits that do damage would be reduced in damage and effect, but get stronger when applying the new 15 and 25 traits . In this case, at 15 points the damage / effect would be the same + any bonuses mentioned and 25 there would be a small boost to its current.

So I looked into this, and I thought it was fixed. Are you still seeing it? Where are you seeing it? What’s getting through? Keep in mind that condition damage will still tick, but NEW condies should not be able to go through.

I do not understand the design philosophy behind condition damage while in mist form.
Now that utility skills are no longer usable in mist form, all you can do is stand there helpless and watch your health go down for 4 seconds from stacks of condition damage. Healing in mist form would compensate for the condition damage, but now using mist form can be a death trap.

At least the tool-tip should be change to reflect that you can still be immobilized and suffer conditions.

You can still heal (don’t tell anyone I said this). Water 15 and evasive arcana will allow you to heal in mist form. All invulnerabilities in this game do not remove conditions applied BEFORE using the invulnerability but do prevent conditions from being applied during the invulnerability. Note: Warrior endure pain is not an invulnerability

If i remember correctly you play a bursty s/d ele right? or I might be confusing you with someone else. If my memory is correct I don’t see how you could have possibly lose to a s/f or d/f ele on 1v1 unless he got you as soon as you were done from a 2v1 or from a challenging 1v1 battle? . Can you give the detail of how the encounter occurred?. Honestly, I would like to come close or even lose to a d/f or s/f ele too someday.

He was a D/F ele with a build I’ve never seen before. We were duelling. He got 2 shot by a warrior that could 3 shot me lol. Then I duelled him and eventually lost.

I run S/F, a build that no one else uses, and usually gets laughed at lol. S/D’s are easy, D/D’s are usually easy (esp the ones from Australia, puts us on an even field, the ones with <50 ms just destroy you while you press attunement swap 4 times … dam lag).

S/D Burst can hardly get through my defences. It’s Lightning strikies hit for not much damage, so when they think the fight is in their favour and they try to Air burst kill me it only tickles. My build is built around fighting non stealthing opponents, and is much better against highly telegraphed opponents. I use 2 instant blinds and the other S/ blind, abuse protection and projectile destroy / reflect. I also use Dragons Tooth to put the foe on the initial defensive and was previously using poison to troll their heals (and cover imob). Still haven’t work out how to take down Spirit Rangers yet, by the time I drop their sun spirit I’m usually running away or in a bad place (then hello here comes sun spirit 2, wish the ele elementals started cd when summond). The beast master rangers weren’t too bad (infinite fight usually)

BTW I live in Australia, playing ele is hard work (sometimes you can’t change attunement without pressing the button 4-7 times and that’s because your dead and just don’t know it yet. You can be downed from a cliff when your corpse is a long way down. You can be stunned mid dodge animation (which takes the endurance btw), I going to one day screen cap the basilisk venom that hits me mid dodge, leaving my character in the animation. Oh an if that wasn’t bad enough, ever double dodge? that’s when you use 100% endurance for 1 dodge and leave 2 caltops when playing thief ).
