I would say LF + Updraft is a waste of LF when you have RTL to bring you closer. The CD will be short if you hit anyways. But sure, it is doable.
It is not a waste, if you RTL at me I will most likely dodge. If you RTL at me then do something not Updraft, you will waist that persons dodge and can hit them with Updraft after their dodge, or teleport updraft later.
Signet of Earth + 10% condition duration (when not vsing someone with Melendru Runes). This will imob someone long enough to land a DT. Put on some condition pressure before, such as chill or poison to get the foe to pop his removal, follow up with this combo.
Don’t be too predictable, esp when using Fresh Air. When you pop into air the first time, there is no need to go using your Updraft straight away. Put on heavy pressure then save your interrupts for when the enemy goes to heal, after they lie face first in the ground, finish them with a burst combo.
Cleansing Fire: While this no longer removes stunned, it is still a good offensive move. Start your Fire Grab, LF to your foe and then pop cleansing -w-a-v-e- (what was I smoking there?) Fire before everything hits. If you are lucky enough, your LF might even proc a GoEP in fire to apply the burning, not requiring the Cleansing Fire.
Lightning Flash as a trickster. When running from a foe, tilt the camera to see behind them. LF behind your foe as they are about to reach you and use a turn around key to face away, finally RTL out of there.

21 second cooldown? Did you even think that through? You DO understand that skills keep on recharging even if a player is not inside that attunement, right?

I assume you’re stacking stealth with it. In that case, you can’t expect any changes, you’re using the skill in an unintended way (instead of as a gap-closer damaging skill), you can’t expect it to perfectly suit that role. And I’m pretty sure all other builds that don’t stack stealth are happy with it as is.
Mhmm, most elementalists used RTL as an escape (an unintended way), now it has a 40 sec cd (unless you don’t lag and hit someone with it).

Firstly, you need to use more return lines characters :p.
Have you and your friends tried the 5v5 matches? If you go to the browser search and filter for 5v5, they are usually much better.
I think that hotjoins could use some change to the rewards system. Currently the only game type available is Conquest yet you earn much more glory playing Team Death match with those trying to play Conquest.
Some ideas:
Reduce the amount of glory and rank gained from killing by 50-80% (2-5 per kill).
-Or- Increase the glory per kill by 50% but split the glory of a kill between the killers. If 8 people are responsible for your death, they all get less glory for the kill but if 1 person defeats 1 person then they get more then they currently would.
Increase the amount of glory for playing the Conquest game type. How? For each point your team controls, earn x glory per x seconds. The more points you control the more glory / rank income you earn.
Add incentives such as: Earn double glory / rank when capturing an enemy point while you have an ally on another point in your control.
Boost the win bonus for players that worked towards the objective and not just mindlessly zerged.
Basically they need to push more for the game type the want us to play, and reduce the Zerging TDM that people are using to farm rank.
Bringing someone from solo queue would defeat the entire purpose of solo queue.
Ok, but does that mean it will be impossible to que with 4 people? I am asking a question. I think this is a legitimate concern for many teams. How often have you been in that spot where you just needed one…more…person?
That is a good question. I also would like to know the answer. I can usually rally 3 people for a team, but they don’t like to tourney much anyways, these new improvements might change their mind though.

If you put 10 points in fire and use a Signet of Earth, you can immobilize someone long enough for the DT to hit. However I do believe that making the animation time shorter might make the burst build a tad too wild, although I believe it could be lowered a tad to work with updraft/gale/EQ.
This can be done without 10 in fire. Use the 10% bonus from Lyssa runes, or the food in WvW (I don’t play WvW atm, spvp all the way). This can help to not terribly change your build (as finding 10 points can be a pain)

Most of what Raven said is what I was going to suggest. Buying TP Gear at your level and making a quick stop to the nearest TP npc to pick it up is required. When you get a bit stronger, check out the frost bow (mainly for frost bow 4 then 3 then drop) it will do a lot of aoe damage whilst adding range to the Dagger mainhand.
Also upgrade your weapons, you will notice the difference.
Other good utility for PvE is the elemental. The earth elemental can help to tank up some of the damage, the other do more damage output but die quickly. This skill is 1 utility and the elemental changes per attunement you are in.
TGSlasher: I see. Well that is an exploit, so doesn’t really change anything else than fixing the issues the skill has.
Dragon’s Tooth is only effective in PvE, in some scenarios where you either kite your enemy into it or mobs are standing still.
With ground targeting you could put it where they are running next.
Yea, focus water 5 (comet) is the same, as long as you are in range. I use DT for 7-9k crits in pvp, how? Focus air 5 (on a good day with no lag) or signet of earth. Hold them still and murder the cap out of them. This works 20% of the time, usually the cleanse or stun break.
The problem I see with them making it ground target is they will possibly remove a chunk of damage off it.
Very interesting build. Good to see you heading down a unique path. Frost bow is my favourite weapon. Bow 5 seems to be un stun breakable and 3 stacks a lot of chill at point blank. Bow 4 does 2k per hit with zerkers.
Focus is my favourite offhand, dagger offers much more but the skills bug out on me too much and vs projectile classes is a laugh. My favorite combo (when it doesn’t fail due to lag) is Gale → Dragon Tooth → Comet (to stop those pesky thieves from teleporting away). Usually I use Frost Bow 5 DT or sig of earth DT
Right now as it is a thief can spam and perma blind you all the time and you cant do anything about it, you dont even want to waste a condition removal on that because they are so easy applicable that is really unfair to have you all the time unable to attack, i find that this mechanic needs to go back so we can remove it just with the swing of the weapon is the only way to make it fair to the current state that is so spammable.
This thing makes aegis look like a baby.
As a blind spamming ele, I agree with what you say. Your blinded, how are you going to know if you hit something or missed it? I find blind to be weird in games where you control your character from 3rd person, doesn’t make sense. If your whole screen went black (or even murky like) for no more the 2 or 3 seconds, that would open some interesting gameplay.
I know that thiefs at the moment are the most anoying class with this blind mechanics, other classes seem to be fair or i never had noticed any kind of abuse of blinds only thieves.
True. With the other classes its how and when you use the blinds. One of the builds I run has 4 blinds, the other has 3. And I make the most of them when I can.
Ill just stick with my rank one. This creates a new market of stuff to put on the gem store I sure hope they don’t end up making ones that out shine the rank ones because we work hard for those.

Random side note – I love using my Tiger stomps in WvW. Rabbit finishers are great too!
I also believe in this. Whenever I lose a duel or a fight to someone who finishes me with a high rank flag, I think that guy has done this a lot and give the person more respect then someone running a FOTM build
I would like to throw a personal thankyou to Arena Net for their giving out gifts to those that purchase gems. Its good to see that you care about our business. While there are some other things that you could do to improve your services (the many posts on RNG chests) this is a nice step.

Glad you like it. I primarily run with the focus offhand because I live in Australia and the off dagger bugs to much. It was also due to having 100% Fire Shield, Prot, Fury and Swiftness at one point in the build (before the stun break sig of earth change, you had 16 on air, 16 on fire and 24 on earth CDs so if you pop the auras at the right times you would have 100% of the above buffs).
Sig of Fire I’m not to sure about atm, if you can force your opponents cleanse then the fire will add a lot of damage, but general they cleanse it off. I find this a lot harder to play these days with the conditions flying left right and center, but when you get into a projectile fight or a non condition fight you feel like god. The key to the build is keeping your prot up when needed and trying not to use it when using the 2 weapon blinds.
I believe any build using a focus is much more powerful when switching to /D, I just hate all the buggy skills when you have lag :/. I also run with Sigil of Doom, for the poison (this build was originally a rabid build for conditions) which puts on more pressure after a successful burst, but overall reduces your damage output when compared with Battle? (might stacks on change). With condition damage ramped up, anyone hitting you punishes themselves with burn damage, though using the focus offhand reduces this a bit (projectile destroy, reflect and invulnerability).

I will have to give your Valk with Celestials a try (usually use Knights, Zerkers or Rabids for most my builds).

The simple fact is they only had the resources to build a tournament scoring system. And it rewards zerging in hotjoins.
If they had the resources, they could have a “hotjoin scoring” alternative for hotjoin arenas, where you would get many more points for taking or holding objectives against overwhelming odds than you would from plinking as many enemies as possible from afar while following a zerg. And less points for piling on in a 5 v 2 situation.
Check damage source’s on player that dies, hit by 5 players in last 10 seconds, score is divided amongst those 5 players (2 points each)

Just had another premade, and to make it better we had a quitter so it was a 4v5.
Gotta love this game.
On the bright side we lost only 20 points, but hey, a loss is a loss in this game, it counts against your LB score regardless and doesn’t register the fact you were playing with 4 players.

I’m pretty much like you dude I come to the forums for humor, I don’t play this as much as I use to anymore, and find it hiliarious that people keep posting stuff I posted months ago about but anet doesn’t do anything, I just like to post my images of me winning in all of them really.
This game got so much potential but it clearly listens to the wrong people.
I don’t pay too much attention to all the builds and whatnot because I just adapt, but they spend way too much time on breaking and building builds than on actual game mechanics, I’ve never played a game that changes all the skills and whatnot on a monthly bases, if you ask me from what I’m getting out of all these build threads and whining, pretty much every profession is going to be able to do what another profession can do and there wont be hardly any difference in them besides the armor they wear and weapons they use.
Except the elementalist. They will do it all really badly
This happens to me as well. I can be completely off the ground (mid dodge animation) and presto interrupt and dodge on cd. Also been basalisked during a dodge, btw, you don’t fall to the ground, just hover there.
I also have double dodge (used 2 bars of endurance but only 1 dodge animation) I was on a thief at the time with caltrops on dodge, 2 piles of caltrops in the one spot.
Some of the targeting changes we’re trying should help alleviate selection of stacked targets. Right now there’s so much overlap that even if you clicked perfectly on someone’s model, it could select a minion instead.
It would be refreshing to see the NPCs/AI removed out of PvP. Currently everything but a warrior (wait, forgot about rock dog) has something following it.
Engis have no followers. They do have turrets, but they don’t move so it (generally) isn’t an issue to avoid targetting them.
It can be a problem when you are tab mashing and it just flops between the 2 nearest turrets over and over and over without ever targeting an actual player, happens a lot with those stupid vines too..
Don’t even get me started about the vines, condition remove everyone out of them, get caught by someone elses vines. Not to mention that as an ele you do so little damage to the things that you almost need to condition cleanse out of them.

Unfortunately uberkingkong is right. I can finish a game with most caps, neutralise, point defends, point attacks and still have half or even less then the guy on the other team who played to get points. I played the conquest gametype we are forced into and got less points then someone playing Team Death Match in the same game.

Indeed, forgot about engie. My friend has a thief build that revolves around using 3 thief summons. He is thinking of getting the 4 piece of rock dog armour and 2 piece of bird armour for a laugh.

People use asuras on tpvp because you can’t tell what they are doing unless it’s something as telegraphed as Mighty Blow.
You can also hide A LOT better, and in more places if you use a asura. Prime example of this being used is when Hman plays his war, he is often hidden somewhere, waits until the right time then BAM. Out of no where 100b to the face. There are places where you can only hide with a asura and nothing taller.

One PvE trick:
Fiery Greatsword 4 leaves a fiery trail behind you that ticks damage. If you run against a wall (without target) the trail stacks into one point and ticks 20+ times. Use that for mobs/bosses pulled against a wall or damage gates in wvw with it.
Tired of walls? Do it without a wall with lightning flash. Cast fiery rush (again without target) and then immediately port with lightning flash into (or right before) your enemy. You’ll stop at the end of your teleport.
Also doable with Fire 3 on the dagger

I like the idea of your skills. The turn into a water serpent and move into the enemies body is interesting.
I would like to see some delayed skills and maybe some more morph type skills.
Super Magnet
When a foe is immobilised he gets a 5 second debuff. If the foe dodges within this 5 seconds he becomes a super magnet pulling all foes within a x radius to him.
Some more interactions with the element, as mentioned by Khalic. Earth would be the biggest here (earth everywhere), unless:
Volcanic Eruption
Morph the ground around you creating a split in the plate and pouring lava in a x radius with x life. Earth (or fire) skill that makes a base for fire skills. Not a fire field, it is a morph field (causes your fire skills to change when standing in the field). The longer this skill channels the more life (and visual effect) the lava morph field will have (similar to how staff fire 5 works).
While standing in Volcanic Eruption, burning is applied to you of your base condition damage every second (as a different burning affect, as not to get in the road of enemy burning effects) and your fire skills are changed into lava morphing skills. Changing to water while in the lava field will nullify the field (turning it back into earth) and remove the burning from you.
Lava Spray Fire 1
Channel similar to sceptre air 1: Drain lava from the Volcanic Eruption, reducing its life by 1 per channel damage, and spray that lava on your foes causing damage and burning.
Lava Ball Fire 2
Channel: Manifest a Ball of lava in front of your character to roll in a strait line at your foe. The lava explodes (blast finisher) where it ends.
Lava Pool Fire 3
Create a fire field at target location using 3 life.
Lava Explosion
Cause medium damage in a radius around you, also a blast finisher.
Molten Shield Fire 5 in Volcanic Eruption
Turn the lava around you hard, creating a shield that provides protection for 5 seconds, a Magnetic Aura and grants retaliation for 5 seconds. This destroys the Volcanic Eruption (no matter how much life it has)
Spring of Water
Morph the ground around you creating a Spring of Water. While standing in the Spring of Water you are inflicted with vulnerability (stacks to 3, is a different vulnerability to normal to not get in the road of enemy skills). Your water skills change into Spring of Water morph skills. The spring has x life and changing to fire will destroy the spring (turn it back to earth, no matter how many life is left). This is not a water field.
Aqua Current Water 1
Similar to water 2 on the dagger, drains life per tick of channel
Splish Splash Water 2
Aoe heal for 5 life of the Spring
Icy Viens Water 3
The water in the field rushes through your veins, freezing solid and providing 10% damage reduction for 3 seconds. As a side effect you are chilled for the duration. Changing to fire and burning damage will remove the effect. Costs 5 life of the morph
Ice Blades Water 4
Channel the water from the Spring into sharp blades that deal damage and apply bleeding to your foe. 2 life per blade.
Frozen Ground Water 5
Freeze the spring for 5 seconds, destroying the spring in the process (regardless of life left, requires 10 life to use). This removes the vulnerability from you but chills you for 10 seconds and chills foes for 1 second for each second they remain. Also, downed enemies in the field are unable to do any action and cannot rally or be revived for the 5 second duration.

So hopefully this could be a harbinger of having the old RTL come back for PVE at the very least, potentially also WvW. Cleansing Wave off the proc from water dodge (Evasive Arcana) heals 50% less in spvp. Elementalist PvE is very different to Elementalist PvP
Lightning flash can be used during any animation. To do this, start your skill then use Lightning Flash before it ends.
Some good examples:
Churning Earth, teleport at anyone trying to escape death
Gale, increase this bad boys range by double.
Heal, get away from your foes, during your heal
Frost Bow 5 Deep Freeze (my favourite), teleport at your foe and ice block his face, good to boost the range of this or guarantee a hit (very slow projectile when ranged).
Flaming Greatsword 3, Double the damage by porting back
Flaming Greatsword Summon, This cuts your movement ability (lame) so teleport while doing it.
Fire Grab and Cleansing Fire, start Fire Grab (even if they aren’t on fire) then teleport at your foe casting Cleansing Fire just before the Fire Grab hits (if it doesn’t lag out) and presto you have hit them with a burning Fire Grab.
Other neat tricks:
GS Warriors, the ones that start with rush. When using S/x, move at your foe, use Dragons tooth then teleport to them, if they us rush they will charge straight at you and your DT.

Why not? what does it lack? Is it damage? I do plenty of damage lol, and my added survivability and pretty much projectile immunity makes up for the lack of RoF / fire grab.
I prefer trading away some damage to get in return a ton of utility and survivability.
losing RoF, Fire grab, RTL, Updraft, Frost aura, Cleansing wave, earthquake, and churning earth isnt worth it for Swirling winds, Magnetic Wave and Obsidian Flesh.
The defensive CD’s are just too long and you lose way too much for them. Currently, it’s better to keep off hand dagger and use your utilities for defense, which is what most d/d players still do.
If they tweaked some CDs, gave us useful fire skills, and made comet instant, then I believe it would be a good option.
The best skills obtained by the focus are: Obsidian Flesh, Magnetic Wave and Gale. The KD of gale is very nice, it is a reasonable duration (enough to land DT off if you don’t lag) and it is a channel (so you can hit thieves when you think they are about to stealth) and its animation is not as obvious as some others.
Other then that, the other skills could use a boost as the dagger brings a lot more to the table. I like using the focus in pvp because the enemies don’t know what it is or does and usually try to call you out for cheating (going invulnerable and healing).
I have no problems hitting targets. It’s good as it is now. A skill that does so much damage shouldn’t be easy to hit. If a target is getting on your flanks or behind your doing it wrong anyway.
All you do is talk about how good you are with the spell, I mean you’ve said it 3 times now and Im pretty sure all you probably do is CoF 1 runs.
Its a buggy spell that is in need for a redesign for PvP because people that walk backwards in an angle are able to dodge the thing; In comparison to other spells that not only hit harder but are 10x easier to land its a meh skill.
Ye of course I play PvE all day. I’ve said it 3 times because there are actually people in this forum that feel the need to make a 3rd thread about this.
The skill is fine, devs should focus on other aspects of the Ele.

The reason people are constantly making forums posts about it is because it is annoying as all hell when you spend most of the fight trying to get them to waste rolls to get a chance to land a flame grab and then see them walk and inch away from you diagonally only to see the thing say MISS.
It’s a problem that has existed for a while and nothing has been done about it. Are you really that dense and stubborn to believe that it’s okay for an important damaging spell to only work in one aspect of the game?
It is a problem that has existed since release. It was buffed to have a bigger radius but still suffers from missing issues (as does dagger air 2) in pvp (and if you have 300ms … good luck having half your skills hit). The skill is fine in PvE.
If it become gorund targeted, it’s the end of ele cleaning WvW defense … don’t want it to happen :’(

I am not complaining about RTL, I am just saying that elems have low mobility.
For example: RTL used for mobility has 40s cd, 1200 range, that’s 30 units per second if you use it perfectly on cd, and if it is not bugging. This is the equivalent of a 14% speed boost to our in-combat move speed, or 10% out of combat.Just for comparison, Warrior’s savage leap has 900 range, 8 second cooldown, so 112.5 units per second. This is the equivalent of 54% bonus move speed in combat or 38% out of combat. And it is far from being their only mobility skill.
Luckily we have an other mobility spell on D/D: burning speed!
Burning speed has 600 range, 15s cd, so it is a bonus to our move speed of 40 units per second. Yes that’s 33% more than RLT, but still 64% less than warrior’s savage leap.Well ok, I guess I just complained about RTL, my bad.

RTL = 14% in combat / 10% out of combat boost … When not bugging.
Stop using your keyboard to turn around and you might hit with the skill. Fire Grab is an amazing skill and it should be untouched.
My keyboard doesn’t turn, its bound to strafe on a and d. Skill still misses though on my end its more a lag issue I believe.
Yeah focus is just so much better, especially since we have crap mobility.
I have started playing with the focus a long time ago too, and I am loving it.
I still use 30 arcane in PvP, but for elemental surge (with focus). My role is offensive support, and kill setter: I can lock someone from afar for long enough for my thief team mate to instagib them without worrying about anything. In PvE I find that arcane is just a huge waste of points.
Yea, I had thought about (and tried several times with d/d) the elemental surge trait. Basically would be Air for kd, Fire for DT and Phoenix then earth for arcane blast / wave to imob the target. Currently I use signet of earth, but it misses sometimes due to positioning (if you start cast when target is behind and finish when the are in front, still counts as a fail / miss when using fire aura on signet use).
Apparently arcane (edit) -p-r-e-c-i-s-i-o-n- power has been fixed ? have to give that a go too. My first ideas was to use arcane power then churning earth to hold the enemy, but it was bugged back then.
I still think the focus could use some love in pvp though.

Not D/F but S/F in spvp and pve.
I never liked games where pvp was built around CC and Stealth. Every single Spvp match I join now over half of both teams are thieves who just spam CnD and are in stealth 99% of every fight. You can’t hit them, you can’t target them, you just run around while they tear you apart.
Then you have the CC fests where you are just chain stunned and can’t do kitten even after you blow your break free utilities. These crap doesn’t = good pvp
It means if you play any other class you might as well just reroll thief or necro
You can hit a stealthed thief, but it can be a lot harder with certain weapon sets. I would say most projectile / beam weapons make it harder (e.g. Scepter Focus on ele compaired to D/D on ele). If you smash your auto attack (with a melee or move your camera to raise your projectile skills) you will still have a chance at hitting the thief. This is not as fun a just fighting someone though, even if they had a stealth or 2. Fighting someone in constant stealth is just irritating.
