There are actually several unblockable skills that hit hard or can me made to be unblockable.

I meant in PvE. I should have been more specific. My bad.

I am kinda benign on if Retaliation should work of toughness. It would be novel to having some means to do damage off your toughness, but it’s not that big a deal, However, it makes no sense that Toughness does not already reduce condition damage, since Toughness is supposed to make you hardier, and this harder to actually hurt, so it should function as a flat across the board damage reduction from all sources.

And Vitality becomes worthless for any purpose other than negating unavoidable one shot attacks. And since there are no unavoidable one shot attacks, no one would ever use vitality for anything, ever, becuase toughness would be that much more superior.

Once again, toughness is working perfectly fine the way it is.

This is quite possibly the worst balance idea ever.

Unkillable bunker guardians who can’t even be engaged unless you’re a necro or a Mesmer or somehow traited for boon rip (something several classes can’t even do).

Being rewarded for passive, semi afk gameplay in PvE as you allow yourself to get hit and kill kitten without even trying.

Just. No.

Make a set of commanders gear. Power for your retal scaling, toughness for your tankiness, and concentration to make your retal last longer. All accomplished without destroying the game.

Another Patch of more PvP nerfs to PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tentonhammr.7849

Tentonhammr.7849

Splitting skills for PvP and PvE seems to be fine for most of you. It may not be an issue if you only play PvE. It also may not be an issue if you only play PvP.

It is indeed an issue if you play PvE and PvP and both with multiple classes. The required skill knowledge increases drastically and ends up frustrating.

Also remember how confusing and unclear this will be for new players.

Don’t think in that limited mind please: just form your point of only playing one mode.

Please speak for yourself. You might end up frustrated and confused, but lets be real here. To think all new players are mentally deficient is a bad way to go about setting precedence for “balance”.

Balance should be done around the high end of every mode of play. Yes, this increases the “burden of knowledge” but that ultimately creates a healthier state as people have more information as a whole.

Thank you. I find this coddling mentality demeaning to all players.

You mean the players who don’t know how CC works? Who can’t execute a breakbar against the Shatterer or any of the Wyverns? The overwhelming majority who spam buttons at any open world event? The fair number who do the same in pug fractals and dungeons and raids every single day? You really don’t think Anet has justification for dumbing down the game when people can’t even handle dodging?

The playerbase can blame itself for this as much as a lack of dev resources.

Based solely on the patch notes, no there are no new fractals. They said they were working on them, and I personally don’t recall a specific release being mentioned for the Quarterly Update, may be wrong tho.

Personally I don’t even care. They fixed the AIDS-inducing instabilities, destroyed SotM with the new dailies, and incentivized high level fractals. I’m happy with that for now.

thank you Absurdo for your reply, your 3 points are totally true. But in this topic, some player think that :
1) it will take an afternoon to developp easy mode raid
2) it’s easy to balance rewards, even if, as you wrote, anet had plenty of fails in this domain
3) in gw2, it’s not ok to have legendary locked behind hard core content, since a minority of people will have it.

actually, i think these threads would automotically disappear if legendary armors could be rewarded in pvp and wvw…

1. This point is absurd. The fact that people (or rather one person, parroting it over and over again) who aren’t game developers and don’t work for ArenaNet could judge a project of this scope as a days’ work is laughable. You can’t copy/paste massive chunks of game code and change a few values and have a working product ready to ship. Gaile already commented on how stupid this notion is and it needs to go away.

2. That’s a fair point. With trial and error they may get it right, but how much damage would be done before that happens? In the past its taken months or years for Anet to retune rewards. Then they overcompensate the other way and take months and years to fix that.

3. Legendary is already locked behind hardcore content. It’ll take me another year, at minimum, to finish the PvP backpiece. That’s because I PvP casually, and I’m 100% fine with that. Because I don’t deserve to have it as soon as someone who goes tryhard esports in PvP. Why is the same notion so terrible for raids? What’s wrong with it simply taking you longer than the people who raid every day?

Thankfully we have fairly accurate DPS meter now. It should be fairly easy to whip up a quick demonstration of your hypothesis for the simpletons in this thread who cannot wrap their heads around your ideas.

It’s hard to take people seriously when it seems that they are trying to accomplish nothing other than to befuddle people with mental gymnastics and nonsensical premises like 8 stacks of bleeding can potentially do more damage than 10.

“The error comes from single stack assessment. The crest of a bleed equals its product after all.”

It’s kitten like this that makes not give a good god kitten what your saying. Get off your kittening high horse and create an example analogous to your premises that people can actually kittening understand. This is a game. Not academic math theory.

I insist that what we need is not more bulk purchases, but a spinner, so we can pick the amount we want to buy all at once.

Bring back purchases of 5 at a time, you still need to click many times. Add a spinner, you input “30”, and buy 30 at once.

That would be great, until the first round of support tickets hit the desk for the people who accidently bought 55 instead of 5, or 200 instead of 20, and Anet removes it. Then we’re all reminded of why we can’t have nice things. :/

Rune of Leadership price

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Tentonhammr.7849

Tentonhammr.7849

Hi,

I’m doing ds events for some time now to get this rune. By now I’m at about 150 crystalline ores.
Aint 600 ores a very very very little bit to much for sth like a runeset? If it’s a recipe ok, but for runes…
Apart from “farming” the hot-story, where you get 40 in the end, the only way by now is to open pods at dragons stand map. Apart from ~6, they only spawn after map event is completed. This means you need to wait up to one hour to get on a map doing events/ got enought time to start new map, then need about one to 1.5 hours to hopefully finish (seen so many fails last days) it. Now you got a 15min race to find and open all pods. Without a ton of luck this leads to 40 to 50 ores.
So all in all you need to do 15 times the story with different characters, or do 13 times success on ds meta event (without dc!!!). For ds thats best case two days without break dc or fail doing this event. Just for runes…
If they just were buyable, but….

so everything must be easy and less time consuming? I wanted the whole set of auric weapons, instead of farming AB meta events, I use one of my extra character slot, created few 80’s to run the HOT story to chapter 8 to get the ones I’m missing.

Sorry, zero sympathy for this type of whining.

There’s a huge difference between grinding long term, goal oriented gear and non-essential collections and cosmetic items…. and insane grind for upgrade components that have basically zero portability once used.

No one get to complain about legendary gear (or ascended gear for that matter) or collection skins being too grindy because they’re meant to be long term goals. But we’re talking about a rune set… one that you will never get back once you use it on ascended gear unless you drop a fortune on extractors from the gemstore.

I’m the first person to tell people to kitten and stop complaining about things being grindy, but they’re right about these runes. And I don’t even want or need them.

Strongest burst dps?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tentonhammr.7849

Tentonhammr.7849

I’ve always disliked the term ‘best’ because it depends highly on your game mode and the type of content you are trying to complete. That being said pistol Engi with viper gear is currently very strong in terms of dps across all modes and has good sustain with it’s water fields etc. So if you feel like it’s a class you want to roll already, you can rest assured it’s a very strong class. However, it’s not a build you will see ‘big crits’ but rather ‘big burns’. =P

Ofc you could go with a power build to see those big crits, albeit in the optimal situations this would result in a fall off damage wise.

Just a quick off topic question, as i am just working on my burn build for a warrior:

What do you consider big burns?

Big Burns.

Invisible Shoes! What the?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tentonhammr.7849

Tentonhammr.7849

Let’s recap to make sure I’ve got this straight:

The expansion has been out for about 2 weeks, the source of this item was just confirmed a few days ago, and people are already complaining because they’re expensive?

1. Demand is probably at it’s highest right now.
2. A good chunk of the player base probably still doesn’t know where they come from, so they’re making no effort to farm for them.
3. They’re locked behind an obscure, and seemingly unimportant mastery that a lot of people probably still don’t have.

Give it a few weeks and the price will go down substantially. It’s virtually impossible to “market manipulate” items like this because you have no control over the supply. The same bullkitten arguments have been thoroughly debunked about the “manipulation” of precursors. Not everything is a conspiracy. Furthermore, if ANET really wanted to gouge you for real money, they would have put it on the gem store… and then people would have complained that it’s on the gem store. Instead, you can get them for free. No real money, no gold. FREE. And still people are complaining about it?

“ANET should just make a toggle option.” Ok, maybe that’s true, but you can’t just copy/paste the game code that drives the visibility toggles on head and shoulder armor, cross your fingers, and hope it works. It takes real developers real time to implement changes like that, and they just finished building a kittening expansion.

You guys lived without this for 3 years, maybe you can wait another few weeks to see where the price/availability go before you bust out the pitchforks? Just an idea…

I still don’t see why it would be an exploit. If it was unintended for AR to be cheaper to craft at the vendor, ok fine- that explains everything. But why are we inherently assuming that it was unintended? It seems perfectly reasonable given that the merchant is locked behind mastery progression, we now need SUBSTANTIALLY more AR for lvl 100, and those infusions are crazy expensive to craft. (Even with the lower prices at the vendor, those infusions are still really expensive). To me that change seemed logical. If it wasn’t intended, it would be great if we could get an official response.

It doesn’t matter what you like to do. Because you enjoy it, everyone has to? No. It could be optional and you’d not have to do it, others could if they want, done. You can not counter this with any argument, period.

And how do you know it won’t ever happen, are you the CEO of ArenaNet?

Did you even read what I wrote? I HATE map comp. Despise it. Yet I do it for world completion to make legendaries and have easy access to vendors and WPs and other things. I’m not doing it because I enjoy it. I do it because I feel it’s necessary for the way I play the game. 4 Ascended boot chest drop in 1 month

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tentonhammr.7849

Tentonhammr.7849

Fractal skins are definitely pure RNG. There’s no reason why any one would be more or less rare than another.

Armor boxes, I’m convinced, are weighted differently in the drop table, and there’s plenty of evidence to support that. Ask anyone who spams fractals and they’ll almost always have an abundance of shoulder/boot boxes and far fewer of the others. It probably looks something like this:

Boots/shoulders: common
Gloves/helm: uncommon
Chest/legs: rare

It’s still RNG, and it’s still annoying as hell, but it definitely seems intentional, and it also makes some sense, given that chest and leg armor are the most expensive to craft, so they’re rarer drops.

Hey Anet can you nerf Ice Bow yet?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tentonhammr.7849

Tentonhammr.7849

The better question is, why are people demanding the game be rebalanced around obsolete, 3 year old content that’s been on farm status for nearly 18 months?

My point with this thread is that if you have such a disparity in damage between an optimized group and a casual group, how are you going to design challenging content (that they’ve promised) that fits both of the following criteria: 1) Doable by the casual group and 2) doesn’t die instantly to the optimized group

And the biggest offender is ice bow.

Honestly, my definition of challenging entails some % of the player base simply flat out failing because it’s not quite their speed. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. When I fail at something I want to get better and get past it. That’s the whole point of a challenge. If any random assortment of players doing whatever they want can beat Anet’s new CGC, then there is no chance whatsoever of it being an actual challenge for guild groups/premades. If the design is good, icebow will have no impact on pass/fail in HoT.

That would be fine if it was about skill, but not if it’s just simply about which team comp you choose.

So how do you design the content so that ice bow has no impact? We’re talking about one skill just happens to deal way more damage than any other skill in the game. How do you just make that ok?

1. The condi meta. We have everthing but a direct quote from the Lod God Colin telling us that direct damage is not going to be as revelant in HoT.
2. Mechanics. There are no significantly challenging mechanics in the game that can’t be bypassed by damage and group defense. Put a greater emphasis on what players are doing, not how damage is being done, and icebow is nerfed by default.

Just my thoughts.

Well you always need damage. So why would you choose an option that deals less damage?

So they make condi better and give everything tons of armor. Great, now all the power builds suck. That seems like an even worse situation to me.

Why not just nerf that one power skill (ice bow 4) that is way out of line, then you don’t have to give everything tons of armor and people can still enjoy various different power builds.

Like from what you’re saying, it seems like you think giving everything 10k armor would fix the situation because it would make ice bow weaker. But do you realize that every other skill that uses power damage would be even weaker to the point of just being a total joke?

Not all bosses would be like that, as purely vulnerable to condi. You also neglected the second part of my post. Mechanics. You can theoretically design a boss with 1 hit point that dies to single attack from a level 1 character. The challenge in such a fight would be actually landing that one hit. Breaking shields through skill activations, not damage impacts, interrupting key skills, positioning to achieve a combat effect, ect. There are tons of ways of making how much damage is dealt less relevant while still building challenging group content. There should be fights where icebow shines, just not every single fight.

It’s not the skill itself, it’s the content.

Why does it have to be so complicated when you could just nerf one ability? You’re acting like ice bow is some kind of special thing holding the very fabric of space-time together so we have to avoid nerfing it at all costs and make super convoluted content around it.

Again, it’s not the skill itself that’s the problem. ALL current content is trival at this point. Nerfing icebow for existing dungeons and fractals barely does anyhing, so why bother?

And I’m not suggesting new content be designed around icebow, I’m suggesting new content be designed that’s actually a challenge. It should requite coordination and timing and teamwork, not just who can burst the fastest.

You’re looking at new content as being the same general system and a copy/paste of current dungeon encounters. If that happpens, then sure, nerf icebow. But it won’t matter because there won’t be anyone left playing the game that actually cares about this skill.

Please give 1 example where it’s actually faster and more efficient to stack a boss in a corner. The stacking in a corner meta was fixed when we stopped taking 3 warriors and FGS was nerfed.

Golems in SE P1 and CoE all paths. Subject Alpha otherwise he moves around (backs up until pinned against something). Also easier to dodge forward into the wall to prevent him from moving.

I said faster and more efficient. Not safer. There is zero point in stacking for any of those fights.
