An Idea for Toughness

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tentonhammr.7849

Tentonhammr.7849

No.

You basically want all these mechanics to be useless, or seriously nerfed, just to randomly shoehorn toughness into being meta or viable, when it already is- just not in any of the game modes you play. It’s critical in PvP, WvW and raids, and working just fine as it is.

There are 20 precursors. They have an equal chance of dropping. Half are worth less than 400g. Half are worth more than. 500g. You rolled the 20 sided die twice and it landed on 2 and 6. Kinda kittenty but it is what it is.

Churning Earth. Base damage is 1,285.

If you wanted to generate the single biggest damage # with a single skill, this will do it. The cast time of 6 billion years, however, means it’s never worth using. For practical skills, gravedigger is slightly lower but actually worth using. But again, cast time.

suggestion: rewards for commanding

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tentonhammr.7849

WvW is another matter entirely and y’all can figure that out on your own…

In PvE this is a god awful idea. You will 100% guaranteed have people fighting over who gets to command and it’ll all go to kitten. I routinely tag for TD metas and occasionally other stuff. I even drop expensive food when I command. I do this because I want to organize people so the event succeeds. That’s your reward. If that’s not good enough then don’t tag up. Take it as an opportunity to teach people to do kitten properly, instead of a burden that you have to type instructions.

Skill Balance Coming

So the big question:

Will balance between the classes in WvW both zerg/roaming be considered even once or is this a pure PvE/sPvP rebalance as usual?

You only need to remove the silly PVE Gear from the Open PVP and accept WvW as PVP mode.

Then they could handle SPVP and WvW together and the PVP players would no longer have to deal with PVE Gear.

Holy kitten someone actually gets it… Someone else actually understands…. Having a pvp game mode governed by PvE rules was never a good idea…

You can buy it off the trading post, and it’s basically the same cost as making winter’s presence. Zero RNG. None. What, exactly, are you complaining about? The lack of a time-gated collection that lets you feel like you “earned it”, when in reality it’s just a gold/mat sink?

Mystic Clover recipe

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tentonhammr.7849

Tentonhammr.7849

I’ve had pretty good luck with this. Yesterday, (in stacks of 10) I attempted 4 times and got 30 clovers. The other day I think I was around 50% return rate. Maybe just lucky on the RNG?

Extremely lucky

I rolled another 8 × 10 recipes today and got 10 clovers, so out of 26 × 10 recipes ive gotten 20 clovers,

That’s

260 Mystic Coins
260 Ecto
260 Shards
260 Crystals,

Coins and Ecto combined are around 1.1G a try, so over 260 gold for 20 clovers which are needed for crafting the legendary, with these costs it should not be this much of a swing in RnG, we need a dedicated recipe for this

You say this as though every roll that didn’t give you clovers gave you nothing. There are very few kittenty rolls on the clover recipe (Gossamer/Orichalcum/Crystal Lodestones/Forge Crystals). Stop doing clovers last. Let the recipe work the way it was intended and give you mats for your legendary when you don’t get clovers.

T6 mats should be the last thing you acquire for a legendary.

No, but I’ve seen wood kittening burn.

Further, you’re saying immersion is more important than gameplay? That argument holds in WvW, but only because you’re not supposed to break down gates by PvDing.

If you’re solo qing you don’t always have the luxury of sending the most suitable class to pressure if your enemy is using the treb. Winning that fight leaves you with two options as a condi player: waste 30-45 seconds killing the treb or leave it alone, so the person you just killed or chased off can come right back.

What part of that makes any sense?

Legendary Collection Achievement Points

1. You would only need to craft the precursor to unlock all the achievements, not craft the whole legendary. If you’re that hell-bent on doing it you could craft it and then sell it.

2. It’s 9 AP with no title or additional collections and achievements tied to it. Don’t bother.

3. Yes it’s intentional. The point of this was to provide a one-time, zero RNG, gradual crafting process for precursors. Not to placate achievement kitten.

Raid rewards overhaul!

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Tentonhammr.7849

Tentonhammr.7849

The most challenging content in the game should be the most rewarding content in the game.

End of story.

No. That would make the problem of raids being designed for a small minority of the population even greater.
Or did you mean pvp? Which at the competitive level is far more challenging than raids?

how about the thousands of dollars pvp players can earn? yeah sure i would like some dollars for raiding as well

Those rewards are sponsor-based and not part of the game itself. Apparently there’s noone interested enough in raids to sponsor them the same way.

If we consider the game itself, then pvp is way underrewarding compared to the challenge it provides (and that’s even when top level pvp is way, way more challenging than raids). I haven’t seen Chaos, OP or you complaining about it, so it seems neither of you is really about increasing rewards for “most challenging content”, but merely increasing rewards for content you, personally, like.

The challenge from PvP is derived from the players, not the content itself. Comparing the human brain to AI is beyond delusional. By your own definition the “most challenging game mode” is already the most rewarding, since pro level players get to compete for large sums of real world money.

And while we’re on the subject, that level of PvP is fsr more exclusionary than raids will ever be.

Lava Font wasn’t even an issue till raids came along. Instead of improving raid mechanics, they went with the nerfbat.

Resources are probably stretched what with the upcoming expansion and all, but still.

In PvE, staff ele was broken. Completely broken. It needed to be toned down. Every ele main who’s not kittened knew that. It had nothing to do with raids, either. It’s been that way for a long time.

Once again, the issue at hand isn’t the nerf itself, it’s HOW it was nerfed. That’s what we’ve been saying since the patch.

Maybe, but the issue has always been about encounter design IMO. Lava Font is OP when enemies don’t avoid damage. The timing of the nerfs—coming right after raids—is also suspicious.

But I agree, they could have shaved things down better.

I partially agree. Bosses standing still and never moving isn’t exactly perfect, but “Enemies avoiding damage” is a slippery kitten slope. Look at the HoT mobs that have such a penchant for charging and running away or evade spamming. It’s not fun to fight. It’s just endlessly frustrating as you chase them down to melee and they run out of aoes.

And as great as the breakbar is overall, it had a serious serious downfall by making soft cc like chill and cripple completely worthless against this type of mechanic, which IMO is precisely how you should counter it.

Please go back to the old legendary system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tentonhammr.7849

Tentonhammr.7849

I’d honestly like to see them make the announcement, and then deliver on, releasing new 4-5 new legendaries, with precursor journeys, each xpac.

It take quite a long time to craft the precursor up, much less the actual legendary, so it would work.

The old system was bad. Depending on RNG for something that could be an epic journey instead, was just kinda boring and anger inciting.

There was no RNG in the old system. You can buy gen 1 precursors off the trading post, zero luck involved. And the cost for all the new ones has been exactly the same as what people were paying for pres like Dusk and The Legend, so what’s actually changed? Not a whole lot. The collections added an incremental way for people with minimal gold to work towards them, and that’s great. But it doesn’t really change the acquisition method. Farming mats to craft vs. farming mats to sell? OK……really huge change.

The only benefit to the new system, and what people keep harping on is how the new collections “actually feel legendary”. Again, yea that’s great and all, but they couldn’t make it work. We have 100% concrete proof this is not a sustainable production model. They missed HoT launch deadline, had an extra 8 months to finish them, still couldn’t do it, and then Mike announced the postponement. Here’s why this is a problem: the collections they’re releasing are one-time content. There’s no long term replayability. The long term value from this content is the easiest part for them to develop: the godkitten skin itself. I’m not gonna guess on numbers but if even 50% of the playerbase cared more about the collections and journey than having the skins in game, I’d be utterly surprised.

I’m not against the collections and crafting process currently, but it’s still horribly flawed and obviously isn’t sustainable and having the new skins in game would add more value.

This is not a complaint post, I’m just genuinely curious why Anet has suddenly started making hidden achievements a regular thing?

They’ve done hidden achievements before, but starting with the current events achievements and continuing on into Bloodstone Fen and Out of the Shadows, they’ve done alot of them. The “Don’t Cross the Streams” achievement makes perfect sense as a hidden achievement, but the other ones in the map and story don’t. I personally find it very confusing. The hidden achievements in the story are also necessary for the Journal UI to recognize that you’ve finished all the achievements for the episode, so again, why hide them?

Again, this is all so trivial that it’s irrelevant, I just find it curious.

[Idea] GW1 Like Soulbound vs Accountbound

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tentonhammr.7849

Tentonhammr.7849

This would make getting ascended pointless, or it would become only for fractal players. Seeing as how easy it is to get full exotic this would also kill the economy. Why make ascended when you can pay a few gold for a 5% stat increase.

Then you’ll have the people complaining about all the gold they spent on ascended being wasted. One of the reasons for making ascended was for the 5% stats.

I don’t mean to sound harsh or anything, I can just see this doing more harm than good.

No, not harsh at all. I put this out there for discussion and feedback.

Like Ubi.4136, I just think Account Bound is enough to serve the purpose of keeping things off the TP. However, if they wanted to keep SoulBound as a call back to GW1 ’Customized", it would be nice if the option was worth considering.

In GW1, it was a 20% increase on damage, however, weapons and armor did not give stat bonuses in that game (the runes in the armor could however). A 20% increase on damage would be insane, which was why I suggested 5%.

Perhaps if it applied only to the Damage or Armor ratings, and did not affect the stat bonuses?

You’re still overlooking the economic impact of this change, which would be way bigger than you think. It doesn’t seem like much, but never having to rebuy or recraft gear for alts is a big deal. Soulbinding and account binding have improved over the years and I think they’re currently in a fine spot.

On a serious note, I feel bad for engis. Apart from VG, I never, ever see this class. It was good in Gors but since slick shoes was nerfed, it’s no longer as valued.

They should add something where you need to stealth the whole party then, that would guarantee 2-3 Engis per fight.

It’s just a matter of optimal versus viable rearing its head for engineer. Being the jack of all trades master of none really brings it down a peg relative to other classes.

But the real issue is that when the difference between “optimal” and “viable” can mean the difference between “success” and “failure” for a less than perfectly skilled party, “optimal” and “viable” essentially become the same thing. If they want more diversity, they need to lower the bar for success, so that unless you’re doing a speed run, it really doesn’t matter if half the team is “sub-optimal” at their roles, it’ll only amount to an extra minute or two of fighting. Until they do lower the bar though, there will only be right and wrong choices of class and build, and certain classes will only be viable in specific scenarios.

A party of 10 necros can clear most of the raid bosses, and you’re seriously kittening about lowering the bar and certain classes and builds being right and wrong? REALLY?

Suggestion for Raids - Difficulty Levels [merged]

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Tentonhammr.7849

Tentonhammr.7849

Eh I don’t think this really answers his question. I know you said it was oversimplified, but I think that rather than asking generally why there should be easy mode in raids, he was asking something more specific, along the lines of “Why is it important that raids have an easy mode rather than just having similar content that is easier?”

And the answer (well, one of the answers) should be obvious. It’s because raids are being developed at a decent rate, while other content is not. Just as i said before – getting an easy mode raid is not going to cost us a new dungeon, because we’re not going to get that new dungeon anyway.

And people that suggest that as an option know that well.

And for the umpteenth time: The raid content being released has zero bearing on the progress of other content.

Plain and simple, the raid team which is smaller than the literal number of players you would typically bring into the Forsaken Thicket, has no bearing on how PvP balance is coming along, nor are they coming up with the new musical scores that the sound team is working on.

Stop asking for raids to not be developed as if that will hasten the deployment of other parts of GW2.

Adding on to what you said….

W2 and w3 were not developed solely in the time between releases. This entire raid has undoubtedly been in development for a long time, with a cadenced release planned from the start. Obviously, some continuos work and polish probably happened for w2 in the months and weeks prior to release, same for w3, but the bulk of the work was clearly already done since they had guilds playtesting them.

As amazing as the raid team is, they’re not super devs churning out content from scratch at a record pace. The development of projects as large as raid wings and LS seasons doesn’t hinge on 6 people.

Playing heal support not enjoyable

I had to log in just to support Swaggers post. has some really great ideas there. I agree, support rolls, all of them are lackluster compared to damage. I actually ENJOY healing, tanking, buffing and supporting. The game has all these tools to make each roll viable, right down to gear options, which rarely get used because it isn’t supported.

Having each class have its own “flavor” of support, like the OP suggested, would really push this game over the top. I know A-net wants to prevent a trinity, but having only damage is a bad design. Zerker still is the preferred method.

The fact that Zerker is still preferred is not only by class design though.

Enemies in PvE, outside of HoT were at least some support gets to see the light of day, just don’t warrant other playstyles as much.

This though would mean the core game would need to get harder, Zerker would have to be less profitable jadajada…

The community will make sure that will never happen because let’s be honest, there are enough players that just want to see high damage and not engaging game mechanics

Orrrrrrrr, there are enough players that enjoy the reliance on personal skill and not having to have a healer and a tank tag along with them just to get through open world content.

Get out of the zerg and jump off the hero point train. Most of the elite and champ mobs have engaging mechanics that you actually need to play around when you’re not spamming 1 in an ocean of other players.

I had 6 characters at lvl 48+ in the old old system.
My fractal main was somewhere in the 70s back when that wasn’t supposed to be possible.

I’ve done everything I possibly can to obtain one (becuase I love fractals and get a kick out of tonics) and still don’t have it. I’m not complaining, and I’m not even saying I deserve one, but no one can tell me it’s OK for someone with 1.9k hours played to have 3 of them and defend this drop rate as acceptable.

This IS a bug. However, you can fix it. The problem tho is that the fix sucks and you’ll never pull it off if more than like, 3 people are there….

You have to let the event bar drop all the way to zero and then start defending again. The event doesn’t fail, it just stays at zero progress. Large zergs will kitten this up cuz people don’t listen. Single players walking by can kitten it up if they start “helping”. Even the NPC kittens it up cuz he does a decent bit of damage and is tanky AF.

This needs to be fixed. I’ve reported it 4 or 5 times.

I’ve seen people advertising in LFG selling solo 100 runs in 25 minutes. Are they even legitimate? If so, are they right? Seems a little cheesy to me.

Are you asking if mai trin can be solo’d in 25 minutes? Did you even try doing a search?

Those were at the top of my google results, both under 15 minutes.

Such saltiness from someone who doesn’t even understand what he’s looking at in those videos…

1. Simply paying attention to the status bar isn’t always enough. If you’re playing ele and you cast glyph or OL and then someone provides retal and it’s stolen by the boss, you’re screwed. It’s pretty much gonna kill you, and you did nothing wrong.

2. It’s easily avoided with boonstrip Mesmer or necro, or not taking a guardian.

3. It’s pretty kittenty that an entire class is completely locked out from high level fractals since a guardian that generates zero retal is basically useless given all the skills and traits that need to be removed/avoided.

We haven’t had any power creep in a whole 2 weeks, so why not?
