haha the new tooltips were mean’t to make it easier for people to figure out what exactly the trait does, then this thread goes and shows the opposite outcome, hahahaha xD
gg xD
I take it back, siphons are still crap :P haha, nah i dunno
Are you new?
/15 chars
I’ve tested it too, monster damage as well as fall damage and all my tests have turned out to show DS as 100% of my HP.
ye :P
/15 chars
Shhh :P the Dungeon sub-forum will kill u if they find out you’re planning to wear clerics in dungeons hehe
Should siphons then increase in healing the lower HP you are?
From the leaked patch notes it looks like there’s just a lot of tweaking, normalizing and stat fact addition. I hope there’s more though.
If not, then i think the only real noticeable thing to discuss in the patch would be about the new siphon changes.
It must be the down-scaling that messes up Lich Form, the AA seems super weak in sub-80 dungeons like u said.
I was gonna hold off on it but then i found out you get loads of free buffs from joining one, so i joined one with maxed out buffs, like why not, free buffs \o/ i don’t rly read guild chat much coz i talk on vent to my friends. Also guild commendations, yeah bro, get dem Ascended Accessories. Then randomly i see ‘maw up’, ‘sb’ in chat and stuff and it’s a nice reminder to go do those meta events.
So ye, too many benefits of joining a guild to just play solo imo.
Greatsword with 100 Life Blasts on ‘2’ key.
Thanks for the calculations, for some reason i’ve always found Lich Form to hit weirdly low, and for whatever build i’m using i don’t think i would ever want to use it without 100% crit chance or close to it.
Ye my DS build uses Might runes as well but i have an alternative set with Scholar Runes but i never get to use it coz i’m mainly just pugging dailys atm. My guild is WvW :P
I tried out the dagger build but it’s not really for me because A. i live in Australia so dodging in melee range or even just playing melee is harder for me and my latency, and B. i don’t always run at 60 FPS :P, i think i’ll stick with DS, it is a very fun build and i don’t overly enjoy melee, hence why i rolled Necro haha.
I only do TA Up and CoF 1,2 with it, the rest i can’t say i trust enough to try.
A bit annoying how Living Story people advertise or join TA expecting it to be for the new path, i don’t want to do the new path, i just want my up/up daily. Haven’t these people heard of TA before this LS? :P
Other than that, it’s been fine for those 3 paths, i’ve never been unable to finish a path, haven’t had any kicks or extremely bad or rude players at all.
I had a horrible time leveling up with dungeons
. First time i did a dungeon in GW2 last year, it was CM at the recommended level, i was like ‘Dam.. this is a leveling dungeon?’, so many wipes i couldn’t believe they designed it to kitten u so hard at such a low level.
Then every time i wanted to join a dungeon i made sure i had my friend there to help me do it. Eventually i just gave up dungeons while leveling after doing CM a couple times and an AC.
That was when i was learning the game back when the game was just released, and i can say for a fact that it was a horrible learning experience, even the players in my party back then were getting 1 shot like flies as well.
It is to my belief that in order to avoid separating the community, Anet gives us these “leveling dungeons” that allow chars from level 35 to 80 to join together. Yet, the entire experience for everyone would be much better if it were like WoW where you had ‘Normal Dungeons’ that catered specifically to a certain level range e.g. 35-40, and then ‘Heroic Dungeons’ which catered to moderate-highly geared level 80s.
The difference in power between a level 80 and anything else is huge, enough that it should encourage 80s to dungeon with other 80s in an environment designed for experienced and geared players, and cater to lowbies by setting them up in dungeons with other lowbies in a much more casual and ideal dungeon experience with room to learn the game and their class.
I think newer players as well as experienced players can see where i’m coming from.

Ye haha i can just imagine it, going up to like a group, starting that flamethrower and seeing your health drop
Why not 25 player dungeons :P imagine doing CoF P1 with 25 people, where mobs/bosses health scaled up and got new abilities :P
haha, just a silly idea
lol Nemesis “when the planets align” i read that in your voice :P i love it
I wanna try the build, could you please provide me with the correct traits, maybe i’ll grow attached to it. :>
Much appreciated o/
Edit: nvm it’s in your sig lol, woops
Ye it seems to be only possible to get 96% crit which is still pretty good, but not 100%
It would be 52% from Full Zerk + Ruby Orbs
56% – 4-5?% from Food
64% – 8% from Banner of Discipline
76% – 12% from Sigil of Perception
96% – 20% from Fury
For pugs though, you won’t always get banners, 100% fury uptime (50% at min) and 25 vuln, would you agree that Dagger builds DPS relies more on an organized group?
Those are some pretty insane numbers.
And wait so if you switch to dagger in the DS build, doesn’t that make nearly every one of your major traits useless? Since they are all based on DS.
I read all the posts too, and some are a bit ridiculous i know, but there’s a reason people spam this zerk stuff in every thread. The reason is because they don’t conceptualize the game design as a whole, they only see it from 1 point of view, theirs.
What these people don’t realize is that we know Berserker gear pulls THE BEST damage in the game, u only have to look at the stats and see Power/Prec/Condamage ok that’s the best damage. Maybe they do realize it, but just what they write on the forums doesn’t reflect that.
What they write is ‘Berserker is the best gear’, but what is ‘the best’, best at damage? Yes, we know that from the stats, it doesn’t need to be told. But then some of them forget that with no defense you need to know/evade nearly every boss attack if not all of them without fail, without lag, and you will probably need a group full of other zerks as well to kill the boss before their health drops to 0.
These are some daunting requirements for a game claimed as a ‘Casual Action MMO’. So what we have in the forums is a lot of posts with players saying ‘Berserker is the best gear’, and what happens is all the readers who don’t know any better go off and buy full zerk and hop into a dungeon.
What we then end up with, and this is from personal experience as well, is dungeon run after dungeon run of zerker players on the floor downed because someone in the forum said ‘Berserker is the best gear’.
It needs to be said that Berserker is not the best gear for anyone who is not equipped with the knowledge and skills required to use it in an array of pugs for whichever dungeon they are running.
Only then will new players reading our forums realize that the balance between damage and defense is a personal preference in a non-organized dungeon environment.
Lucky you weren’t around back when Retal wasn’t nerfed in WvW :P
(edited by Tobbygnome.6793)
I’m just curious, what is the actual damage each Dagger hit is criting for, and is 100% crit chance from sigils+fury assumed?
I was just testing in HotM and with 30% conduration from Spite and my max was 16-18 stacks, so around 8 on a boss, then again with dodge used every CD it was 14 stacks, 7 on a boss.
I only bring this up because a lot of the time when i pug a dungeon the vuln is never at 25 ^^ so i’m hesitant to buy those daggers. :P
By how much DPS roughly is the difference between Dagger and DS btw, Appreciate your input.
Alight thanks for that Spoj, have you ever calculated how useful access to Vuln stacking with a DS build is in a pug relative to the amount of extra DPS dagger puts out compared to it. By that i mean the effect vuln has on the groups DPS in the instance someone else isn’t able to stack it to 25 consistently.
I was always under the impression that the Dagger build was better suited for single target bosses, and the DS build allows for more AoE. There is no 1 build for every encounter.
Boom! http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Empyreal_Fragment
Alooooot of places to get em, i do a tonne of WvW and i have 2 many of these dam things
A Necromancer is invited into a Dungeon
I dunno about you guys but i’ve always noticed that the mats around the game are really scarce, like i looked at some maps online and i can’t even find half the nodes in-game that it displays, nerfed or smth?
I just find it easier AND cheaper to go kill some champs, then buy the mats off the TP. To me that doesn’t really involve me in the crafting experience, it just feels like i’m purchasing my items rather than actually crafting them. I wouldn’t mind running around the beautiful world of GW2 gathering mats if there was actually more than a handful to gather. Don’t even start with T6 nodes :P
Whoever actually goes around and gathers the mats i buy in the TP, thank you very much.
Cursed Shore is more dead overall than Frostgorge Sound, it’s better to guest for Frostgorge Sound
i hate you soft wood log
+1
To a damage taking dummy that displays DPS
-1
To anything remotely close to WoW
Be sure to make it clear in your posts exactly what type of model you’re promoting
If you told someone who’s never played Guild Wars 2 what champ zerging was, they’d probably think it was like Raids, but they are entirely different from each other, here are some key differences.
Raids -compared to- Champ Zergs
- Organized group compositions -compared to- Any zerg will do, anytime of day
- Assigned roles -compared to- Pressing ‘1’ is the only role
- Time constraints/DPS checks -compared to- 30 secs and it’s dead
- Phases/Complex Boss Mechanics -compared to- Standing still, attacking 1 guy
- Unique, better than average loot -compared to- All champs in game drop boxes
- Not easily farmable -compared to- Easily farmable
- Learning Curve -compared to- Learning ‘Troll > Bandit > Oak > Spider > Boar’
- Communication, usually voice chat -compared to- Follow the Comm Tag
I hope that’s enough to convince
Even if you could test your DPS/effective healing, this game isn’t really designed for meters, the PvE is so much more chaotic in some instances, you spend a lot of time dodging and moving out of red circles, add the fact that your group composition directly affects these numbers as well (Vuln, might, fury uptime, blocks), the DPS meter will always show different.
Then there’s players being stupid with it, causing miscommunication, that’ll be there u can bet.
At least in Oct 15 patch they are improving the damage floaters for conditions and consolidating all the damage into 1 number & icon for each condition type.
So i guess the answer to this debate is:
Both Legendaries and Ascended Items are obtainable through effortless luck/buying, but it’s just easier to prove you put effort into making an Ascended due to it’s Account Bound mats and unavailability of the item itself on the TP.
Ye i can see how people might not like something boring like ‘Kill 40 monsters in X’ but you know that’s why they give you a range of choices for your dailys, so you can just ignore that one.
Yes i know some Daily choices might force you to do that one because maybe you don’t enjoy WvW or Dungeons so those dailys are out of the question for you, but that’s the joy of dailys, sometimes they force you to experience different parts of the game, sometimes they force you to ‘mentor younger player events’ in order to create social interactions and mix you in with a different crowd. You never know, it’s a different story everyday.
That’s how you should look at dailys, sometimes ‘Kill 40 monsters in X’ is achieved through a dynamic event happening in the zone, i mean the area it gives you usually consists of multiple zones am i right, like Maguuma Jungle, Shiverpeak Mountains, Kryta, etc.
Though it wouldn’t be a bad thing to add more Dailys, and i think players could suggest some really good ones, it’s just do ArenaNet want more. As it is now, dailys are pretty dam working as intended, like Edgar explained you can get Dailys done just by playing the game, 1 dungeon or 1 hour in WvW, is enough to get 3/5 sometimes.

Ye Selan the thing i find is that WvW is fun to play in a zerg until people suggest for you to build correctly for it, and since i want to be useful i go ahead and do it, but then i find that the build that works best is the most boring build ever.
So i stopped caring and built the way i wanted while still grabbing the staples like Staff for Guardian. The only time i’ll build correctly is when i do guild runs, if at all.
The game is that, you run around exploring and doing the hearts, if an orange event pops up on the top right feel free to join in and you will be rewarded upon completion.
The green star on your map will indicate where you need to go to continue your Story Missions which you can do if you enjoy story dialogue and acts as an alternate way to level in a single player environment, yet people on the same story line can join in.
It’s kinda hard to kitten people off in this game, most people are braindead anyway and just run around farming stuff or pressing F.
Exploring an entire map/zone gives you special rewards so try aim for that, it’s very fun at the start. This means visiting all Points of Interest (POI), activating all Vistas (some are hard to get to), doing all skill challenges, completing all the hearts/quests.
Ele’s are quite squishy so try to stick to areas with the same or lower level mobs.
It’s also quite helpful to frequently buy new gear from the Trading Post whenever you have the gold, especially weapons, that will help you level a lot faster and die less. Sharpening Stones also level you up faster. Gathering AND crafting both grant XP, as well as nearly everything else in the game.
Do your daily achievements, these can be seen in the achievement tab under ’Daily’s & Monthly’s’.
With unwanted green/blue gear, you can either sell it or salvage it with salvaging kits, and this will give you Mats but also Essences of Luck which grant you Permanent Account Bound Magic Find.
Ahh yep, have a nice time, enjoy leveling.
I’m addicted to Super Adventure Box, can u maybe please maybe make a new special Continue Coin (BoA ofc) as a rare drop or rare JP chest reward that allows you to join SAB with 5 lives while SAB Living Story is not active. Then after that you have no more lives and have to find another coin :P
I really wanna plaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay SAB \o/
And maybe even make it so you can join with a party and your party all get 5 lives as well, but once they lose all their lives they are kicked out and can’t join back, like how tribulation mode is.
You can even put it in the gem shop as well!!! \o/ ahhhh i wanna play so bad. Name it like Rusty Continue Coin!
Just an idea :P

I’ll just say that most of these ‘elitists’ are not really that ‘elite’ when it comes to GW2 content. I personally hate dungeons in this game, they are riddled with exploits, so no matter if you go on dulfy and youtube and learn the content, when you actually enter the dungeon, it’s a different tactic all together, it’s stack on this glitchy rock/branch/cliff and range the boss.
This is where fake elitists come in, where the extent of their knowledge in dungeons lies in knowing all the best exploit rocks, yet their reaction time, damage, support, knowledge of their class and intelligence are kitten. They are also like how ‘ilr’ detailed them “People who rage quit that fast and/or just insta-kick other PuGs for superficial reasons… aren’t elitists. They’re just inexperienced PuG’ers themselves trying to get better people to carry them.”
The fake elitist attitude is not entirely ArenaNet’s fault, but exploits i guess is their fault for creating such a buggy environment, and maybe they can improve on this in the future. But with the way dungeons are now, i hate them, and i’m a bit saddened this patch is ‘just’ a dungeon path, but i’m not complaining, i don’t want to be selfish, Super Adventure Box was a patch for me, maybe the next one will be one i like as well.
492 heal x 9 (4428) @ 1K Healing Power, pretty good pretty good
Hmm x5 that’s 22,140 healing done. Not bad mate.
wait, how do you know its 20% per tick?
it could be only 20% for the entire heal.
which means 2828 @1k Healing power….
Good point, i don’t, if it does for the entire heal, then that’d be pretty crap ay
492 heal x 9 (4428) @ 1K Healing Power, pretty good pretty good

Here you go mate, the big Necro patch
Sorry i don’t run d/d tho
Hearts are pretty much THE thing i am doing in between random events, vistas, poi’s and skill challenges. The fact that the checklist of things to do is covered up by a progress bar is fine by me, at least i can cheat and skip all the boring and/or time consuming tasks it asks for.
Sometimes you’re doing an event, and you look at your heart and it’s already 80% full, or done. \o/
Hearts were a very good move from traditional MMOs, if you find them boring you’re probably just burnt out.
WvW is really good karma but it’s not ‘stable’ because of ‘off-peak’ times on certain servers, or a server is always losing and wiping to better servers. However small ops groups can be good for flipping camps/sentrys and yakslapping, but only if you can find a group like that.
Next would be Scarlet invasions, but again not stable and not constant.
Lastly i would have to say Orr events, yet on some servers it’s a dead zone, people caught on to Frostgorge Sound champ farming and left Orr for that, so i would have to look around and see which server is worth guesting to for this type of farm.

The Dreamer:
“My Little Ponyyyyyyy, My Little Pony, ahhh ahh ahh ahh!! Myyyyyy Little Pony, i used to wonder what friendship could beeeee!!”
Ye, some people didn’t even know the old one existed, or just didn’t pay any attention to it, and now this new tool is stuck in the same spot as the old one, so people are oblivious to it.
The only advertisement for LFG that i’ve seen is when you go into a dungeon portal without 5 players and it says “Not enough people? Use the LFG tool” or something, but that is rare lol.
It should do something like flash or alert you to that icon you have added to the top, saying “You have unlocked Citadel of Flame in the LFG tool” or something.
I dunno, something, needs more alert to players coz the tool seems pretty unpopular atm.
Post from the future:
“Getting a bit sick of all the commend requests from commanders lately. Whenever i’m playing WvW, commanders on my server are always asking us to commend them after completing every single little task, it’s getting to be a bit egotistical, annoying and sadly reminds me of how people on Youtube always ask for a ‘like/comment/subscribe’. Anet please remove the commend feature from the game.”
:P calling it o/
No i like your idea
but it could be done better, and i do agree there should be more emote/social features in the game, after all this is a much more happy and casual MMO than others out there.
It’s a product of the way the game was designed, if the game designers deem it a ‘design issue’ they will change it, yet most players however do not see it as one.
Even my newbie friend who just started GW2 finds it really fun to run these champs. She is always going there when i’m offline to farm Queensdale, only because for her it has fun + XP/loot + people!. Leveling alone with no friends would be her other choice, not as exciting.
Maybe, like someone above me has said, Anet should try to get people back into the mid-level zones to level together. Maybe then the leveling experience wouldn’t be so lonely as to force people into level 1 zones to find humans to play with.
(edited by Tobbygnome.6793)
Ye Anet! do it :P
