Change in loot parameters or a bug? [Merged]

Bumping the thread. I find that the loot has gotten better. I now get more loot consisting of blues and greens. However the drop rate of rare items is still far less than it was before the 15 of November.

At the time of writing this i have farmed for 4 hours in Cursed Shore between Penitent and Shelters and have received only 4 rares.

I, as all of you do, hope this is a bug that they will fix shortly. At the very least i hope for an announcement either way.

Same here, I am getting more blues and greens along with the inevitable junk and salvage mats. I still don’t see the champs dropping 100% of the time (more like 5%), nor do I see rares as often as would be needed to make even a few ecto’s a day.

Just leave the novices up that spawn at the start. If it won’t start the 1st phase just kill one of them. My group just did it that way twice, worked just fine.

Although a work-around by the community is a very nice thing indeed, the fact remains that they should remove the particular instance from the rotation in FotM. Many players will just get frustrated and quit when unable to finish this instance and although those on these boards will no doubt find your post to be very enlightening a large portion of the player base won’t even be aware of it. Between this bug and the disconnects they should possibly just take the whole thing offline until it is ironed out.

I tire of this discussion; especially when it digresses into name calling. I do know that if I must get PvP kills as a PvEer then it is no longer something I will do even if the reward is my monthly. So if I can assume that ANet will continue to include WvW in the non-pvp tab then I will forgo the monthly; so be it and no thanks. Although I must question the logic from ANet of not having a daily require even one WvW kill to qualify if the world is as intertwined as you state.

I get you point, and it would make a good suggestion. However, if one category of monthly is stated as PVP and one is not then the latter could and should be considered NON-PvP.

I agree that that is a semantic assumption. (Whatever formal logic suggests ) The thrust of my point is that an achievement is an arbitrary goal set by the devs and that the semantic assumption doesn’t confer any kind of responsibility on their part. I do not have an expectation, for example, that as a PvE player I will always hit my daily achievements in the time I have to dedicate to this game. Nor do I believe that because it is called the daily achievement I am owed the ability to achieve it daily. I understand that it is a bar set and that I will have to stretch to reach it, if I choose to.

Well said, and although I myself have never gotten a monthly, I hold out hope that someday they may change the requirements to suit my play-style. If not, no matter I get my dailies usually and I’m happy with them. I only entered this thread to say that pvp is pvp no matter what you call it (a rose by any other name if you were).

. All that matters is that PvP in any form should not be a requirement for the NON-PVP monthly.

It’s not the non-PVP monthly. It’s the PvE and WvW monthly. The non-PVP monthly doesn’t exist. It’s possible if someone were to post a suggestion in the suggestion forum they would consider it and include it.

still can’t figure out why people call wvw pvp. they are not the same thing…at all.

In regards to the monthly only. Does the requirement require that I defeat (i.e. kill) other players (human beings) then YES this is PVP. So it should be either event only WvW needed or be moved to a PvP monthly.

no it is not. defeating another player with no skill/gear restrictions, using npc’s to distract them, etc is NOT pvp.

there is a reason why anet has structured pvp….let’s not forget it. wvw is as unstructured as the pve world.

i wonder if any the qqers here have even stepped foot into the mists? pvp and wvw are so different it boggles my mind that people are drawing conclusions that they are one and the same…

Regardless of how you want it, placing bread in a toaster still gets you toast. PvP is still PvP no matter what the outside influences are If you are in a zerg or alone, with or without npc’s to help whatever the case may be, you STILL HAVE TO KILL ANOTHER HUMAN BEING. If you don’t get even this simple an explanation, then I’m sorry we’re not gong to agree on it.

see here, you’re positing that toast is the end result. in that sense, do you posit that pvp is the end result no matter what mode you start in?

flawed logic is flawed.
simplicity indeed.

It is the end result when ANet makes it the end result in order to get your monthly. I said in regard to the MONTHLY only. You can hang around in WvW all you like and not get your monthly picking daisies, however when you want to achieve it, you must defeat other players.

so you are against killing other players? or you can’t kill other players?

one is an issue of morality and the other one of skill.

If it matters, I am against killing others and but I won’t be baited into your QQ, LTP, trap ;nice try though. All that matters is that PvP in any form should not be a requirement for the NON-PVP monthly.

STILL HAVE TO KILL ANOTHER HUMAN BEING

That’s pretty hardcore. I normally just defeat their characters & cause them some armor repair costs.

Fine, I consent (emphasis was due to poster not getting it), I am not killing the human being, but I am defeating the character being controlled by a human being and as such causes them some discomfort. Either way the character is controlled not created as pixels.

Last night was WAY better for me, something more like the normal amount of loot I would expect. I ran around Harathi Hinterlands with my l35 ele for maybe an hour or so and picked up some decent drops (a few blues and whites, a green or two, and a yellow). Totally different than I’ve experienced in other areas or with other characters, and totally different than the experience I relayed in my earlier post. Totally weird.

Oh, but got virtually nothing from vets, and the ones that did drop didn’t drop anything interesting (bones, I think.)

Same here actually a few greens and a bunch of blues, no yellows dropped for my lowby (lvl 30) ranger, but the drops seem to be more fair for him. The vets and champs don’t drop still, but I believe that to be universal currently. My point is that it seems that I don’t get the shaft on loot quite as bad with my lower level characters as I get with my main. HTH with tracking down the bug(s) ANet.

This is NOT about stupid champions people… it is the OVERALL DROP RATE if you ever farmed cursed shore events thats where it shines the most. Lost of NORMAL MOBS you farm get multiple rares per event now you get 1 maybe in 3 events.

I get your point, but I would give my eye teeth for a rare every 10 events. As it sits now I got one, count them ONE rare for over 25 hours of play. Even excluding the champs that is a VERY poor drop rate. ANet, I already have a full time job, I’m not looking for another.

Make Karma more valueable?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tommyknocker.6089

Making karma useful can be done in many ways. I would suggest also adding a skin tab in your bank (upgradable as with the normal bank) and allow all the karma hearts the ability to sell you just the skins for the items they sell. I know there are many skins (looks) I really liked but the stats of the items didn’t appeal to me and as such I lost track of them. This skin bank could also be account wide so as to allow all your character to transpose your look. Adding basic transmute stone ability (1 time) to these skins would make them desirable after which they could be transmuted normally.

I would also suggest adding a plethora of new recipes to the karma venders (maybe even a recipe for the item(s) or skins they sell).

A group of what must have been at least 50 players and myself completed the Claw of Jormag DE. When the dust had settled I asked in map who got a rare from the chest and one, yes one player linked his new yellow. Now I’m not saying that others didn’t get a rare, but I know for a fact I haven’t seen a rare from a chest in forever. I wasn’t able to do the final even in the Karka Chain, so having any rare item drop seems to me to be out of reach currently.

“Do you stand behind the decision of having the levelling system in FOTM, essentially fracturing your player base into many, many, different portions, with players only looking for the specific level they need to advance through level difficulty?
It was never a conscious decision to fracture the player base through the Dungeon. Honestly we were aware the dungeon was good but we didn’t know just how popular it would be. Nearly straight away we saw the issue and have been working on a fix since, we have explored multiple system”

Good on Chris for owning up to this issue but quite frankly I find this unbelievable. As soon as it was announced there were people on the forums stating that it was going to happen.

And the moral of this story is that i need to pay more attention to the feedback we are receiving. There is a great deal going on so a method of more open communication between the teams/design and the community would be great and I intend to work on how we can accomplish this.

Chris

I know it tastes bad, but that crow will eventually go down. I, and many other players I’m sure just like to know we are dealing with a human being and not some faceless corporate entity. And for this decision of admitting your only human is worth a big +1 from this player.

But so long as we don’t receive any more god-like items as a reward only a few can participate in, I’ll let it slide.

I’m fairly sure he won’t answer my question:

“Will the new gear be able to be made with crafting and/or karma vender and if so when?”

But this is the only question that will decide if I am playing this game for long or if I will just log in once a year to see what is new.

Tommy,
My take on the following quote by Chris Whiteside during this AMA is that they realize they shouldn’t have made the ascended gear available via only one facet of the game. I have the same concerns you do, and I was tremendously encouraged by what he said in this response:

“Hi Joiry,
Really interesting question. Our intention is to deploy ascended components and gear across the whole of the game rather than focus it in one particular location. This was a a mistake and one that we will not be making moving forward. We do hope to find a balance and ensure that the world of Guild Wars 2 is as accessible and populated as possible and moving forward you will be able to see how we intend to execute on this goal.
I think with the support of the community we can continue building a world that does satisfy lots of different types of players in a fashion where everyone feels part of the same community and whose activities impact and interplay with those of differing player types.”

I will say that reply does give me some hope, although he doesn’t actually tell us if it will be craft-able or available through karma. All he says is that it sill eventually be available through other content, and that could mean other dungeons, PvP rewards, WvW for X badges or through one time events (I work weekends and can’t attend these if done the same way). All of these activities for a casual PvEr are not within my reach so are therefore useless to me as a means to acquire the new tier.

Yep add my vote for the goose egg crowd (0’s down the board).

I got this game after seeing the manifesto and truly hoping for them to stick by it.

Was I bored at level 80 – not in the least, but even if I had grown so in time, I could have put down the game, done something else and come back. Knowing I would not have to climb back on the treadmill made all the difference. Ascended was a bad mistake, BUT if they state publicly that there will be no more tiers added the I will give them the benefit of the doubt. But they will have to add other ways to acquire it (karma/crafting).

If they had only fixed a few bugs and added 30 or so DE’s in the last patch I would have been ecstatic but a new gated dungeon and an event I couldn’t even play BAH HUMBUG!

Put even one ascended ring in the karma vender there (no matter the cost) and guess what, the events will get run and the world will feel alive again. Why ANet hasn’t figured it our by now is beyond me. It would allow the pvers a way to get the new items and calm the majority of the disenchanted; well that and an apology with assurances they won’t add another tier.

edit: As for the rest of the world giving better karma reward items at the hearts including recipes would be a nice start. The majority of the players usually just rush through the lower level areas anyways though.

To the OP +1 for summing it up nicely. I have to wonder though, how many would be as upset if they had just gone the extra step and made them craft-able and buy-able with karma? I know I for one wouldn’t be because I could still play the game the way it was intended for my play style.

Now if they add a new tier every other month making all my alts have to chase carrots perpetually then of course I would be quite upset. The matter remains that they did say we could play the game our way adding cosmetics in lieu or a grind and with the addition of the new FotM dungeon they have gone against all they stood for. I will give it some time because I hold out hope that someone in charge there will stop this insanity, but if they continue to do totally inane stunts like the per-cursor shuffle only available to certain players and this carrot then I too will just leave the game.

I don’t much care if they added a new tier so long as they don’t keep the power creep on the front burner. I however will quit if I EVER see a gear check addition added to the game as this to me just spells elitist garbage and we don’t need that here.

Bring a few spare pieces of really cheap gear at your level to swap to. If it gets broken, throw it out and get more later.

Good idea actually and one I have used in the past. Masterwork or even rares are fairly cheap on the TP and you will at least be wearing something when your good armor armor turns to dust. Repairs are a pox on us all, but unless you want to find yourself kicked by many either find a like minded group of friends or carry an extra set of armor. Hint: 10 slot invisible bags are cheap on the TP and you can buy a set without having the fear of selling them at the first vender you sell loot at.

OK here’s the thing, I cannot use any voice software because I don’t have a separate gaming room and the wife can’t stand me “talking to myself” and BTW I type slowly. I want to join a guild that is casual friendly with members able and willing to run dungeons with me. I have run AC, but as of yet haven’t even finished my story due to not wanting to pug again. I’m not saying pugs are bad, but you never know if your going to get a player(s) that will kick you for not hitting the right key at the right time or is just rude if you don’t know the layout of the place and go left instead of right.

I’m an older gamer (some might just say old) , and I enjoy the PvE aspect of the game and am willing to try my hand at some WvW, but PvP has never been my thing. I don’t mind representing, nor do I mind helping out guildies when needed/asked and would prefer an active casual guild, with the emphasis on casual. I have a few characters currently and am quite versatile for events. My current online world is Fort Aspenwood, but I am not opposed to relocating for the right bunch of friendly players.

And yes we all realize the world rotates and that is WHY they should put in place a better way of doing this. Off the top of my head, I would allow every account to participate in it much the same way the mad kings labyrinth was done. Only once you have completed it through to the chest it would no longer appear for you or any character on your account, you could still enter and help others though. Being open for a few days would allow EVERYONE to participate and not just those lucky enough to have the time for it.

Most people in my guild got the 20 slot bag, some got the exotic accessory and a few even got precursors. I got one day’s pay, but if i had know the rewards would be as good as this I would have called in sick. In the future I will but of course calling in sick means less money for me and as such less for gems. I think having them run more than once would be in ANet’s best financial interest, don’t you?

GW2 has two paths before it.

Please ANet, there are many many good alternate options being posted as to how you could appease the masses; listen to them. One-off events may sound good on paper but it alienates your playerbase, same goes for the new tier of equipment and new skins being RNG (chests) only. If however you are only listening to some accountant trying to nickel and dime the players, soon you will be without the later and have no need of the former. Bring the spirit of the game we were longing for back to us.

Today we got a whole party up to the edn of the new jumping puzzle, made our way to the champion wind rider…

…killed it.

You have recieved [Dagger]

Not a blue dagger, or a green dagger… certainly not a rare dagger – jsut a white, trash dagger. Not even any coins, and no mini event, just. XP and a white level 79 dagger

Sounds about right, the trash mobs are dropping nothing but trophies for me over the last 2 days since the patch. At least now I know that if I spend 10+ minutes on a champ I can get a shinny new dagger.

Drop rate.

It seems my “luck” is a daily thing, and not based upon the amount of time I spend in an area. Some days I make out like a bandit and feel they must have uped the drop rate and other days I may as well go outside (and usually do). It almost seems their RNG is based upon some strange name/day of week/weather combo, but if I can crack the code I will know when to bother playing and when to go clean out the garage.
