Thank you ANet for the experiences of the first year in GW2! Never have I so enjoyed an MMO with it’s living world so much and still wish it was 2012 again. The every 2 weeks update may have been too short for some, but once a month would have been perfect for all IMO. I truly enjoyed being able to get most achievements without having to watch a cut scene 5 times or needing to redo instances.

P.S. since later in 2013 your direction for the game has gone astray of what I liked about GW2 and I fear it will sadly never return.

Casual gamers used to have a haven in GW2. No grinding, no elitism and few boundaries. Sure there was some content that was for the more hardcore such as fractals, but it was released along with fun things such as the LW1 patches. Once HoT was released after FAR FAR to long to keep the interest of many, we got grindy, difficult to traverse maps, and elitism coming out of our kitten. This included almost nothing for the casual adventurer/explorer to do in the new areas (save die a lot). I left for 4 months since there was little left for me to do that I had not done before and I already had 5 characters with full map completion in normal Tyria.

I guess what I am trying to say is that it is alright to release content like raids, but for kitten sake at least give the casuals something to do too! I am not surprised in the loss of revenue in the slightest and as many of my guildies have left months ago and was indeed expecting as much. I came back for a while, but with many other alternatives coming out I cannot say for how long I will stay.

There are two abilities which stand out in GW2:

  • Healing oneself with waters/blast combo
  • Stealthing away to heal up (choosing your battles)

Classes with these abilities are dreaded in WvW and with good reason. Self-sustain and/or invisibility are incredibly powerful.

Unless I’m mistaken the Necro has neither of these things, making it simply a bag of HPs to these apex classes.

No one’s liked us from the start. Its like anet is trying to whittle down the necro population to the dust again…i want beta reaper back.

+1. For a while there during beta I actually felt we had a Dev on our side and was working to make us to feel wanted. Yes condi is meta currently in many game modes, but it would be nice to play a power necro outside of PvE (anything works there) or a zerg in WvW again. Sure there are some that can pull it off, but the inability to get away when an errant zerg comes by can be a game breaker for most.

Blighters boon, the stab changes and IMO, Rise, were all needed unchanged if they were to make roaming small group to even be considered. Changing one might have been acceptable (although not needed IMO), but changing all three have basically cut the legs out from under us.

MEH, can’t beat em join em. I am seriously considering just bandwagoning to the flavor of the month server at this point. Sure it will cost me gems, but I can be part of the blob instead of the bloody smear under it. Besides the bags I get may even pay for my transfers if they are going with the 2 month approach.

Edit to add: at least if I do transfer I can do my dailies again without getting run over by a 70 man zerg while trying to cap a camp.

I’m on TC and all I can say about this entire week is BORING. Next to no fights unless you are outnumbered 6 to 1 and even then more times than not you are facing AC’s in the open field. There is no balance between the servers in T1 currently and unlinking and closing DB will not even solve the problem. Some will say that TC is doing the LW3 but honestly it took me 2 hours, and even if replayed a few times I cannot see it keeping the WvW players away all week. Others say that BG is taking another break and that may well be the case, but even the most dedicated server (and my hat’s off to them) cannot push every hour of every day against a constant tide of fresh blood.

ANet has to take one for our team (and their wallet) and limit the amount of transfers allowed within a given month (year?) so as to curtail the bandwagoners. But that will never happen, and I personally will not be surprised if IOJ/DB are still linked/open this evening/reset. I hope it is worth it to them though because I have found playing their game of “stack the server” to be one way of making me play something else.

My perspective, and I’m on BG, is that linking has been pretty good. It’s revitalized WvW and brought more population into the game.

However, it has been neglected. This needs to be actively handled every week. As soon as a server gets into T1, they need to be unlinked. DB is in 2nd, and about to be in first. There’s no reason why they should have IoJ linked to them. Also, YB has not had a linked server for weeks and they’re currently in 6th. Anet is dropping the ball on this.

They can’t hear you with all those gems blinding them!

I wear them on my well bomb necro for the extra swiftness they add to me. I most likely won’t even notice the 10 second difference, but honestly if you were using these runes for that buff there are much better options. I use Blighters Boon though so my only question to ANet is that if the AOE was too much why not just reduce the time to say 15 seconds and make in personal use only so I can actually get it to proc once in a while?

Necro’s are already the most selfish of the classes anyways so why not? As it sits now though this was a /facepalm of a move IMO.

Not really. They could have adjusted the DMG without screwing around with the traits/cooldowns :p

The same could be said for the chill damage on reaper, but instead they totally changed it to something else. ANet always just uses the bigger hammer approach, I am just glad us necros didn’t see the underside of the bus (too badly) this time.

Anet just needs to learn when to lock the bloody servers. DB/IOJ was holding their own 2 weeks ago and the score was very close the entire week. Had they decided to lock the two servers at that time T1 would have continued to be fun, but they are STILL open! So what is happening is that BD/IOJ can continue to get guilds whereas BG and TC are locked out. Now the balance is all shot to kitten and DB will need to be separated from IOJ if they don’t just want there to be only one choice, again rendering any "balance " moot.

500 gems is all you need to enter T1 through IOJ BTW.

We need more reason (rewards) to defend, not less. If AC’s were removed you may as well just get in queue behind the other k-trainer like in EotM.

Server pride would soon go out the window; if there is still any left that is, and WvWvW would become as much a joke as golem week was.

My vote would be “No thanks” even if only for a week.

Annoying in that their survivability is really good if you know how to use your stealth and heals.

I think they have less potential damage than a thief, but a lot more survivability, boon access, and support via heals.

I have had a similar experience many many times. I have played my well bomber necro and then reaper in WvW for over 3 years, minus a small break, and my mobility is generally non-existent. If and when I get downed by a roamer(s) I just open map and wait till the WP opens up and use a different map or exit. My build is ill equipped to fight 1 on 1 and hence I just don’t bother trying, there are more bags to be had in a zerg anyways.

If they want to wait out my death it matters not, the waypoint opens eventually, and I don’t see them gloat either way. BTW I also turn off all emotes as I find trolls love to laugh and drop siege on your corpse and I refuse to feed their egos.

I am getting a constant ping of 1300 currently, even after re-logging multiple times. My skills do go off, but I have found myself dead more times than I can count today due to the rubber banding and the guesswork involved in trying to figure out where my skills will go off.

I decided to just not bother for the day; I just hope the patch is worth it at this point. Time to go play something else…

+1. It was my hope that I could stack all my bloodstone dust and fragments in there so that they could be converted at reset on a different character with my star and maubry, but I still need to do it manually at a bank. Guess I’ll just have to use them for other things now.

Carrying your “stacks”, be they bloodlust, cruelty etc would indeed be a nice bonus, but I don’t think the game will live to see this QOL change.

As for build templates, this has been HEAVILY requested since beta and as of now we only have separate builds for the different game modes; we never used to have even that. So again holding out hope will mostly likely just make you disappointed with the results in either case.

I would like to see either be the subject of a new poll instead of more siege being added though.

They had found a semi balance last week, but they neglected to close DB and IOJ for this week. Anyone wishing to get into tier 1 has only to bandwagon onto DB or IOJ and what was starting to become balanced is now shattered. All this is yours for the small price of 500 gems (IOJ) or 1800 gems (DB).

Well at least we know how ANet will pay their employees for working on WvW.

I generally treat beggars as I do gold sellers, report for spam, block and get on with my day. If it is someone I know or is in my guild I may lend them a few gold, but I like to live by the old saying “neither a borrower or a lender be”, and you won’t lose any friends.

Lol, Mal and his sh…. crew are tanking it on purpose so they won’t have to face anyone else.

The game is rigged by very poorly designed RvR mechanics and a bunch of players who game the system.

ANET doesn’t care as long as you buy gems to transfer to the new Server of the Month.

What Grim said, don’t let anet take credit here. Guilds and players balance tiers and transfer left and right. As long as the gems are bought, anet is fat and happy. Let those gem purchases drop watch them panic as they did earlier this year.

The real problem is that the system doesn’t prevent players from overstacking. Players balance poorly.

Instead of locking just overpopulated servers, Anet should also limit of transfers to servers after a win and allow more transfers to servers that lose. Also adjust status quicker for servers that gain or lose veteran WvW players.

Anet should also limit transfers to linked servers who are paired to full and winning servers.

And while I’m on a roll, transfers should also be limited based upon the time you generally play, not on the population of the server as a whole.

Doing all of this would go a long way to balancing WvW I am sure, but with the lack of gem income WvW would stagnate and die (again).

EotM is good for what it is for k-trainers but unless they add a castle in the middle of the map it does not serve close to the same purpose as EBG does. And honestly haven’t they introduced enough k-train, PvE garbage to WvW in the past with such things as golem week? I like my WvW to be much more serious, and as such I will mostly likely never get many of the EotM achievements.

AFAIK there are titles you can get when you have achieved the better icons (diamond). If you want to show others what you have accomplished just wear the title and leave the clutter off my screen. It is bad enough that the icons are displayed in PvE so as to make every event there look like a game of Chinese checkers, please just be happy with your titles.

I just wish they had thought out the icons in the first place instead of shoving their e-sports down the throats of every other game mode.

Where went WvW Guilds?

My entire guild is absent now and was on the decline since they introduced the pirate ship meta and culminated when they had the golem week fiasco. I myself took an extended break (4ish months) and the only reason I came back was to try the new tracks and systems. As many of the previous posters have said in is mostly a case of far to little, far far to late. I will miss many of the players I had fun with, but it seems looking at the roster many have not even logged in for a very long time.

I do still see the occasional familiar face (character), but I fear the good old times are behind us now with new games coming out that can better scratch the itch. Pity though if they had done the current changes sooner and taken us more seriously, I feel, many of us would not have left in the first place.

If they gave us many of these changes they would reduce everything else into uselessness.

We can’t have nice things (see chill damage nerf), but some would be nice to have. At least with reaper we are in a better place than we have been since dhummfire was added to base necro, and look how long that lasted (less time than chill damage did).

BTW I fully agree with axe and well changes, but then again I stopped playing my condi reaper and went back to the old well bomber for WvW.

I bought Guild Wars because it was casual friendly and had the promise of regular PvE content updates.

Beyond HoT which is not casual friendly we have had almost no PvE content added in a year and a half. Raids which by its very nature is elitist has zero appeal to the casual crowd. Arena Net have really let down a large portion of their player base with rewards and story locked behind elite content or requiring long periods of active play.

The direction they have chosen lately is not in the spirit of the game I originally purchased.

You are not alone. I REALLY enjoyed season 1, with it’s zerg around the map and kill X Scarlet minions, I was never so happy to get home from work to kill things to relax. Season 2 was less of a pleasure and more of a chore to get it done. 90% of the achievements I will never do simply because I don’t like to repeat content as I find it boring and in this case it was more like work than my job. Many players it seems disagree and I am all for them having their elite content, but I play the game to have fun and it seems lately it has become less so.

I quit the game for about 4 months recently and other than a few changes to WvW it seems they are still content to continue on with the current season formula. I guess that what they want to accomplish is to expand their player base to “be the best they can be” and I personally just want to kill things to have fun after a hard day of work.

When the game was in it’s infancy and they announced that every 2 weeks they would be adding new content,THAT was the game for me! Now, not so much; I already have a job thanks. If it makes me a carebear, so be it, but to me the game is much less fun than it once was.

They should just allow you continue to collect reward track points outside of WvW maps (with the contribution decay in place still of course).

This, or keep track of what you were earning when you log back in to WvW after leaving and returning. I myself, and I am sure many others, have been called away and had to log out a few times and in doing so I have lost tons of track xps.

I am not asking for free lootz here, just a return to where I left off at, in order to not be forced to accumulate the points again.

And permanent was what we got for 4 months; those that stayed that is, I quit till they reversed the prejudice against some of the WvW player(s). If they had added the ranks icon everywhere first I would have no problem with the PvP icons. Also just because you don’t think anyone cares about WvW rank does not make it a universal truth, I like mine very much and could care less to see a PvP icon in any game mode not relevant to the PvP tournament.

First of all, what prejudice? – from your old posts its as if you quit because youre making up assumptions that there are rifts between pvp and wvw players? You’re delusional.
Secondly, I can argue that getting a high rank in wvw takes less skill as it is pretty much just the amount of time you spend zerging, hopping on that k-train, spamming 1 and capping stuff. Heck I have over 2.5k wvw levels and even I know world rankings mean kitten all.
Lastly, pVp is a better indicative of skill because to reach diamond-legendary you would need more than half a brain and an excellent understanding of EACH classes and different builds. It is also more balanced. IF you’re saying pvp doesnt translate to WvW-pvp mechanics then youre straight up stupid or ignorant.

It is very clear that they cared more for the PvP community when they added the irremovable icons from the names while not doing so for the WvW crowd, if you disagree that is your right. As for skill, I generally enjoy GVG’s and small scale skirmishes that require you know positioning, tells, and what players are the larger threat, so no, many of us don’t hang out in EotM or button mash so you are wrong there. I am not, nor have ever, said there is no skill involved in PvP, but having PvP icons in WvW makes as much sense as having WvW icons in PvP. Feel free to read my post history if you don’t believe me.

Oh and btw calling someone delusional, ignorant and/or stupid for having a different opinion that your own is aggressive and rude, but then again that was the general impression I got from many players when last I entered the PvP lobby.

Instead of removing them indefinitely because of name plate clutter that I myself have never had a problem with how about you instead leave us with the option of whether or not we can show in it WvW to anyone else who also toggles it? I still like to see it. If i can see it everywhere else in GW2 then I would love to continue to see it in WvW as well.

So long as you add the ability to see my WvW rank while in PvP I got no problem with that. Maybe for the first 4 months though you make the WvW rank show up permanently so that it is fair to those of us that had to see those icons for 4 (or so) months, then add the toggle.

I’ve said it already but I’ll say it again: It’s fair that you cannot show your WvW ranks everywhere because it was never ever a possible option i.e. never implemented by Anet; on the other hand, you could (since the start of season 1) always show off your PvP badges in WvW, because Anet made this system.

Now why would you put a goal for people to reach only to punish them for working towards it? People will just quit the game because who knows what they will kitten up next?

I was playing WvW for over 3 years, and that was long before there was a tournament in PvP. Since there was never an option to show my ranks in PvE, PvP or even in WvW to my own team, the PvP icons should not have been added to any other game mode without, at least, the ability to turn them off. All this change did was segregate certain members of the population into feeling inferior for no reason whatsoever.

As far as quitting the game, I did, and with this change I will return. To me it is more about fairness to those that earned their rank than anything else. Having the PvP players have the ability to show off their icons in a game mode, that means nothing to WvW, was a kitten poor decision in the first place. If they could add the ability to turn off and on all clutter in all game modes I am sure many players would be quite happy, but then again that should have been added long before the first tournament IMO!

Unfortunately, I will admit that thanks to the inclusion of EotM that ranks mean less than nothing. I would still like the option to show my ranks if for no other reason that to let those that know me on my server and in my guild to see my ranks.

In a perfect world there would be another icon that appears when the majority of your ranks were “earned” in EotM that went along side of your rank, but then again that would lead to more clutter.

Actually I would wear mine with pride seeing as, to me, it means that I prefer an organized large team environment with my guild and friends to the toxicity that is PvP.

It’s not about how much you consider a player “skilled” if he got legendary rank in pvp, is about how much I consider it skilled… thats why it’s me chosing to show it instead of you or arenanet. I don’t care if people won’t respect me cuz they think roaming or “The eternal” title has a better value, but i will respect those people having my same legendary badge instead of a player showing me the amber bag, cuz i worked on it and i know how much effort it requires. In the same way as people that got The eternal title will respect and be respected by others having it, cuz they put effort on it and they want to show it. It’s not about discrimination, but in this game there’s already enough bad credit on those who put effort on something less casual due to big ego of average MMO players, that flatting players like this will make it even more and more casual.

I repeat my questions, cuz developers and even players couldnt answer to them, trying to mislead the point:
You talk much of trying bringing people in pvp, and wvw is one step before the competitive pvp for the new players, so why hide the title showing pvp partecipation? Does it creates too much sense of inferiority or discrimination on those who couldnt get trough emerald?

I will try to answer your question from only my point of view. I don’t mind if the PvP icons are displayed in WvW or PvE so long as I can show off my WvW rank in both PvP and PvE. This to me seems a fair compromise and if it creates to much clutter then give us the option to turn them off or on individually and let us decide on the amount of clutter we want. I have a high rank in WvW and have participated in many GVG’s and small scale battles, but I avoid PvP like the plague due to the “L33T” and toxic attitude you get there, if you make even one mistake in some cases.

First and foremost I play a game to have fun and although I like the challenge of going up against humans with an actual brain, I detest some of those self same humans for having a mouth. In most WvW battles nobody has the time or inclination to insult, belittle or just be a kitten to others, so for me it is much more challenging as well as enjoyable.

Now my question to you is, why was it fair to show the PvP icons everywhere, that could not be turned off btw, when a player such as myself could not, and still can’t show my WvW ranks everywhere?

I’d like to see them removed from PvE too, or at least give us an option to turn them off in any game mode not exclusively league tournament PvP. WvW has ranks and your league rating has no bearing there so having it not show up reduces the name plate clutter; more so if your server has a very long name.

Good chance IMO, but I would have preferred an off/on switch so as to keep everyone happy.

Players already complained about how long the WvW nameplates were before they added the spvp badges, Removing these badges was a small step in the right direction. If you need some cosmetic to show off how pro you are in spvp, wear the back piece.

Except that you don’t ever need to reach legendary division to make the backpiece, and it was never about skill, reaching legendary doesn’t mean kitten for skill; just that for some people the badge was our sense of reward and to take it away in the middle of a current season is unacceptable. Anet should’ve had the foresight to realize adding badges to already long nameplates was a bad idea since like you said, people were complaining even before the introduction of leagues and never put badges in WvW in the first place, or at least wait until start of season 4 before implementing this change, so that people don’t feel hard done by for achieving something.

They made a simple mistake and have corrected it, all is Ok now.

To the detriment of those who worked hard towards a goal, where is our sense of justice?

Probably sitting in the same place mine was when I got to see all these tournament icons in WvW when my rank was hidden; in WvW. I can feel your pain, but I never went into PvP expecting to show off my WvW rank there, so coming into WvW or PvE to show your league rank makes little sense.

That said they could have waited until the end of this tournament, but at least it has been done.

Well, so we also could remove all pvp/wvw-titels in pve because why should you show them there? If you reach something and you want to show it off. I understand the reason but i do not understand the way its done.

That would be fine, as would adding an option to “turn off” all of the clutter. My problem was with the inability to have any control over what it is I was being shown. It has been remedied to my satisfaction, but I am sure others would rather an option to turn it off and on.
