Not on a whim as I did with HoT; no matter how much the drought of content.

The information had better be moving toward more the year 1 style or I will just not bother. Raids and elitism have overshot fun, friendship and exploration for me with the new Xpac.

Logic behind making asc. mats more demanded

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tommyknocker.6089

Don’t know much about the logic behind it, but the end result is making me wealthier. All the players needing the ascended for raiding etc. are making the prices of raw mats skyrocket. I have 1 full set of ascended on my main and seeing as I play no other class I am all set to sell all my mats to the TP.

If I get another ascended drop I will be happy and of course and find a use for it, although they have been massively nerfed since HoT. Grinding for the mats/gold does not appeal to me in the least even though I have max crafting in everything save scribe.

I keep a pretty close eye on the LFG tool and I can tell you that the postings very greatly between time periods.

The new maps are designed more along the lines of a boss fight with a set time schedule. Being on at the exact right time means the difference between playing or not playing the content you want and thus gives the disconnect of many players feeling the maps are empty all the time.

And that is the issue I am facing. So, what should I do? Change my sleep pattern? Quit my job?

Yeah, this is going to be even more horrible when fewer and fewer players access the HoT maps, regardless of time period.

Couple these issues with the absolute destruction of WvW, then I really so no reason to continue playing. I regret purchasing HoT. I really do.

IMHO the only way to “fix” it at this point is to make them more like SW in that the map decides how things are gonna work out. Any other way makes us need to watch even more boss timers, and Grenth forbid we miss out by a few minutes in some cases (DS).

Yup. AB is doable, but not with only 5-10 people during the liberate Tarir event. As for other maps, not one LFG entry.

One of the worst examples of problems in AB is the HP below Tarir. To get to it, the Octavine meta event has to be completed and the map level must be at max tier. I haven’t seen that happen, not once. It has, I know, but not when I’ve been on. So, how should I grind constantly in AB hoping for the moment when the meta is achieved? Or just say screw it?

And that leads to the biggest problem. We live in a world with many timezone, and as such what is a very busy time for some (NA prime) becomes a wasteland at other time periods. The reason SW and Orr are as popular today as they were at launch is not due to the fact that they drop better loot, but because they are accessible to anyone at ANY TIME

I keep a pretty close eye on the LFG tool and I can tell you that the postings very greatly between time periods. The direction they took with SW was better as it offered a map on a varied time schedule, in that, depending on how much said map wanted things to happen they would. Finding a new instance was as easy as opening a LFG and finding a map as far along as you wanted and joining.

The new maps are designed more along the lines of a boss fight with a set time schedule. Being on at the exact right time means the difference between playing or not playing the content you want and thus gives the disconnect of many players feeling the maps are empty all the time.

VB: NEEDS to have it’s own lobby for the raid.
AB: I don’t mind and you can generally find a LFG doing taxis, reminds me of SW.
TD: Right, they need to fix something here or you will hear crickets upon entering.
DS: I like the map, It reminds me of the zergfest that was S1 and I actually liked it.

As I see it currently VB will be getting done on a more regular basis once they make a lobby. AB will continue to get done, if, for no other reason the viper’s armor and good loot. TD, tumbleweeds I need not say more. DS, well it would seem that I am not alone in liking the zerg action as every LFG I have seen posted stating a new map fills up before I can even join the party, also the loot is really good.

laughing too much

Just a FYI. Some of us like the fact that we are part of what, not counting last year, is a constantly updating single player experience. Most offline RPG get maybe one or two updates/patches then they move on to the next iteration in the title. Just because it is called a MMO don’t mean we HAVE to treat it as such. I am a member of a guild, but I put myself offline occasionally in order to not be bothered so I may farm/do events in peace if I only have an hour or so.

Just because you see something wrong with someone’s preferred play style does not make it wrong!

How about… Trailblazer’s? Yes, you do lose a bit of power damage but you can tank and maintain decent condi output.

Trailblazer is alright if you like to be “the” tank. Think of it as a dire set with a bit of a bonus added in condi duration.

To the OP: I tried to find a happy medium for my play style so I went with full viper armor with 4 nightmare runes and 2 trappers runes (lots of duration). My trinkets are ascended rabid, but then again I already bought them so I am not going to make a new set. I find my condi duration is very good as is my tankiness. My weapons are also rabid ascended because the extra precision is nice (converts to condi damage for 13% under curses).

I may not get the biggest of numbers, but the build suits me. I can survive quite well in the new maps and can usually res in battle when need be.

Unless you are giving away something no other map can get, your players will generally gravitate to the easiest loot/hour maps. Although soon after they receive the “shiney of the month” they generally depart to the old stand by content anyways.

Having so many metas on so many maps makes players only go the the ones that are sure to succeed, and even with the LFG they may not want to wait for one to be advertised. Tagging up and advertising yourself is an option, but as time goes by many will already have what the map offered and won’t bother joining. ANet would have done better to reduce the amounts of meta events or at very least not put them on (or increased) timers so players could go in a do them at their leisure.

One thing for sure is that some of the metas (Tarir) are easier to accomplish than others and some maps (Tangled Depths) are already showing signs of abandonment.

ANet: we have a problem with everyone hoarding mats and gold, what can we do?

Dev 1) well we could reduce the drops and dungeon rewards…

Dev 2) we could make the guild halls require insane amounts of mats..

Dev 3) we could make the new maps very difficult to navigate to increase WP revenues.

ANet: make it so…

I am all for having to work for rewards, but it feels like we are playing Scrooge Mcduck 2 the reality show at this point. Please ANet reduce the mat requirements for the guild halls at least, my guild leader is constantly nagging us for mats (not his fault), and that goes very much against the spirit of the community hall!

The only organization this event needs is to get as many people as possible involved in the event, split evenly into teams, and make sure people know the mechanics of their lane. Beyond that, there is no more coordination required than the breach in Silverwastes.

There is very little margin for error, but no amount of coordination will actually change that.

That’s the thing you get as many people as you can and the majority of them are un-experience. You got like more then half of those people running pwr, toughness and vit lol so maybe only a few are only zerk.

Well TBH, the stat unlock for the map is trailblazer (tough/vit/condi/expertise). So the people that are on the map are far from the zerk or die players that are needed for the meta.

I knew it would happen eventually. Verticallity and multilevel events may sound like fun, but they honestly just confuse many players; myself included.

The events are not clearly shown on the entire map, although the entire map needs to work in unison in order to complete the meta. If I go the tangled depths and an event is not shown on the map I have no idea where and what to do in order to help the map.

Not that it will help much now, but I would offer the following as suggestions to ANet.

1) Make all the events on the map shown once you enter the map.
2) Make all the events show the elevation you need to be on in order to find it.
3) Let it be known if it is a group or solo even so as players will not face a champ solo.
4) Give clear arrows similar to the first map that can be followed for chains
(this may happen on other maps or chains but I have not seen it as of yet).
5) Let us know if the event is a part of the meta or just a normal event (coloring maybe)

Even these few changes would make the map(s) much more accessible to me, as no matter when I enter a map I would have a clear direction to help the map. As it sits now I, and many others I have seen lurking at the WP, have no way of knowing where and for what we are needed.

Then why should someone buy the expansion if he might aswell play in the old zones?

This is why I’m not buying the expansion. While I’m sure I’ll love reaper and I might have a little fun in the new zones, I’m also 99% sure I won’t enjoy it. I’ll go in, unlock reaper, and probably never go back. Is that worth 50 bucks? Nope. Also WvW is dead and people are screaming sPVP is imbalanced, so I guess there isn’t much I can do anyway. Map complete in the old world till I find a new game.

I love my reapers, I have two, a condi and a power one now.
BTW ANet can we get build templates within my lifetime?

Anyways, the thought of getting HoT, unlocking reaper and then going back to the main game is a noble one, however, it is not very practical in this “new” MMO. Let me explain. Once you have those little stars over your head stating how much mastery you have, it will be just a matter of time before you (we) will start seeing “LFG mastery 50+” posts popping up. This again drives a wedge between the different playstyles and makes the game much different than what I bought 3 years ago.

If you choose to not buy the Xpac and instead just enjoy the core game, many will think you are F2P and this too will make many exclude you. As I see it no matter how you slice it, you will be considered an outcast and it becomes “either conform or be cast out”. That to me is the problem with the new direction, it has the potential to encourage elitism, and that was something the core game never really had, save for speed runners.

…snip
5. Legendary Armor
– Legendary armor is simply a re-skin of ascended armor. It provides no stat upgrades
over armor that is accessible outside of raids.
– Ascended armor is already incredibly difficult to get. Why would legendary armor be
any easier?
– The stat upgrade provided from a full set of ascended/legendary armor over a full set of
exotic armor is only about 5-10%. This will be barely noticeable by the casual player
and much more noticeable in a raid setting.
snip…

I had to address this section of your post. Although the legendary is in essence the same as an ascended as far as stats go, you will be able to change it’s stats to suit your build (although the rune situation is still an issue). This does indeed put it in’s own tier as you can take 2 minutes and change your entire build, whereas the guy with “only” ascended needs to go and make a new set. I’m not asking for it to be easier to obtain either, ascended is difficult and I don’t mind.

I am not trying to pick apart your post by any means. However I, and I am sure others, think that this “pinnacle” of all armor should at least be obtainable in more than one place so as to make it more of a level playing field. The thing that drew me to GW2 in the first place was that I could do as I pleased be it jumping puzzles, events, dungeons etc. and still feel like I was progressing. Now if I want to have the same chance at the best armor I need to do only one thing ad nauseam which, to me, goes against why I play GW2.

Why do people feel that every single piece of content release should be made for or accessible by them? You people are hilarious you make it sound anet will completely stop making content that is easily accessible and focus mainly on raids.

I could care less what new content they add to the game so long as the rewards are similar.

Right now the only source of the new legendary armor will be from this one raid. This excludes almost all the casual players and as such makes them even more the second class citizen to the ever growing elitist crowd. They did the same thing when fractals were first introduced with the ascended backpacks.

We are not talking different skins here, and I can see how one would want to stand out for his accomplishments by having a “shiny cod plate of godliness” so long as it is only a skin. Once you venture into the realm of different tiers then it becomes much different.

I agree with everything you say. I much preferred the casual laid back environment that was the core game. Now it feels as if I need a schedule to do most of the new content, providing I can find a LFG post that is.

As for raids it just feels as if ANet is driving a wedge between two very different play styles, and GW2, IMO, already has enough elitism.

And then on the other side is me.

I took my time on the new maps and I am still unlocking the first areas. Did a few of the story missions and as many events as I can find on the map. Sitting at about 30 mastery points even though I see over 100 sitting above many others.

My point is that if you want to rush everything to get it “done” it is your own fault if it is over far to quickly. I prefer the journey, but if your only shooting for the destination then don’t be to disappointed when it arrives far to soon.

As much as I enjoy HoT, this is not a valid argument towards the debate these guys are having. You always read things like this, “100 hours in on Skyrim and haven’t left Whiterun” etc etc, doesn’t mean there is meaningful content that will keep people interested, it means the person in question often has too much time on their hands and is willing to drag their heels to get their moneys worth from their purchase. The OP here has a lot of valid points that a huge number of players are feeling, and you probably haven’t experienced a lot of them yet as you are spending so much time soaking up the content.

I don’t rush by any means, me and my partner play a couple of hours in the evenings and a bit more on weekends, and have seen most of the meta events now. HoT is good, but I do question a lot of the design choices Anet made here.

Well what can I say, I feel I have gotten my moneys worth thusfar whereas many here do not. My advice is therefore move on to something else or try and get your money back. If you choose the first option then I will see you all when you come back in a year to rifle through that too. As for me I experienced the drought of 2015 and I have every right to “drag my heels”.

I do see where you are coming from and someday I may feel the same. Honestly though when they stopped the 2 week content it left me with very little to do. I hold out hope that if I take the current Xpac at a slow pace I will still have things to do in another 6 months other than the sparse festivals.

I haven’t so much quit as just stopped playing that game mode; if I quit i would not even bother coming on the forums and would just uninstall. I want a CDI though so that we can give our input on what we want and need in order to have ANet see things as we, the WvW players, see them.

And yes I know it will involve change. Change does not scare me, as a matter of fact I welcome it so long as it is within the realm of “WvW” and not more PvE or k-train garbage. I also realize that my idea of what WvW should be would differ vastly from what another thinks it should be hence a back and forth discussion is in order (as was promised). The problem with ANet calling all the shots, is that they too will see things through their own eyes and that will sadly disregard many of us.

Unless the entire community is allowed some say as to what WE the long term players want then we will again be giving ANet’s interpretation of what they feel we always wanted.

The fact remains for this player I may return, but only after I see them open a discussion with us.

Well the candy corn gobbler was up until this “adjustment” a nice way to keep a permanent XP buff on your character. Now, not so much, hence we are to look elsewhere for the buffs (gem store anyone).

My gobbler will be sitting in my bank until next Halloween once the price exceeds its usefulness. As for using the gem store for a quick boost now and again, no thanks, I would rather just do more events.

So my answer is profit, they wanted more (big shock there) and even though some of us bought the item for gems we were no longer giving them enough. If you notice the item was not even put up for sale this or last year, although I in a way am grateful due to candy corn inflation already costing to much due to these nerfs.

I know their main attention is on PvE currently, well TBH it always was, but when is this “focus” on WvW stuff they discussed gonna happen? Surely they have more time now that HoT is out the door to concentrate on other areas of the game.

At this rate I don’t think this will be the last goodbye thread we see this week.

To the OP, I don’t want your stuff, as a WvW player you probably don’t have anything worth more than a few silver anyways. May your road ahead be more lucrative than the road you left behind.

Edit to add:

3 years, they show absolutely zero love and zero support to this game mode. It deserves to die.

As much as I may not prefer the new BL for WvW purposes, someone put A LOT of love and effort into creating it. We should consider that while presenting our opinions on it.

You can tell that someone put lots of love into the new maps, and I too commend them for the effort as they are quite stunning to see. However as a WvW player ascetics can only go so far and you need to look at the practicality of the entire map.

They, once again, needed to discuss the new maps with the community before making it IMO. We all like surprises, but they need to follow some norms and a CDI would have gone much further than this little surprise they sprung on us. I was never invited to the beta of this new map, but I find it hard to believe that those that were did not voice their disappointment with it.

Also while I am discussing the new map I need to mention EotM. It seems to me that anything that has any possibility to disrupt PvE is immediately addressed. However with EotM we were given a full on k-train map complete with guilds being set up to exploit the map. This in essence made ranks irreverent for everyone; if they made levels irreverent in PvE I am sure they would address it quickly. Because this is only WvW it has been put on the back burner for so long now that granting any retroactive rewards becomes just as meaningless. BAH, sorry but honestly ANet if you had only set up communication with US we could have avoided 90% of the current problems we have. As for a remedy, at this point I cannot say, as the damage may be to great and a great number of players have already moved on. The bright side to ANet though is the only ones left are the k-trainers they seem to want to cater too.

I find that people having problems with Jumping Puzzle is because they have input lag. Maybe due to their mouse, old desktop, internet connection, keyboard, memory, multitasking…etc. …snip

Or you know maybe, old, bad nerves, vertigo, bad eyesight, etc etc. Not all problems are with the players rig, I have a nice rig, only about a year old, but as I am getting older jumping puzzles or just vertical environments are something I dread. I never did like platformers even in my youth.

Before someone says maybe this game is not for you, well I am rather proficient with my character and have in fact beat Liandri (sp) without the cheesy cheats either. I do fine on a level playing field, but when I need to maneuver around the third axis it goes south fast.

I realize that many players like this type of thing, but I AM REALLY HOPING the next xpac returns to a more season 1 approach; that was much more fun for me. If not I will keep my money and possibly move on to a less platform style game.

Personally I would just like to have it back the way it was and have a CDI with the community over what we would like to see added/changed. I know many wanted a new map(s), but I believe they went overboard with all the new mechanics and PvE.

Seriously dev, sit down with us, and discuss, it would not only make us happier, but would save you some cash by not having to pay devs to make things nobody (very few) wanted.

CoF Farming

Meh, those that wanted it all and wanted it NOW mostly have it. Those that wanted to take their time will have it eventually. I’m in the latter camp and while leveling another alt, I am already 3/4 the way though fractal mastery; although truth be told I did a bit of SW for the pack mastery line; less boring. CoF would have made me want to carve my eyes out with a spoon due to the boredom.

Live and let live, I will get them all eventually, but I won’t begrudge those that are impatient either.

… when you can just buy it from the TP for less money, less time invested and less headaches?

And less mastery points, just saying. I don’t like them myself and I find most of them to strange for my tastes. I do however try to get very rare skins and use them when I can. But it seems many players do like them hence why we have 40 million great swords clogging up our view with obtrusive particle effects.

New Guild Missions are bad

Not a fan, AT ALL of the new layout.

Firstly I work weekends, so I have only a few hours to get my daily done and do the missions with my PvE guildies. This used to be no problem as we could socialize while being able do them within an hour or so. Now with the constant lack of rewards we try waiting out the timer, redoing the <insert bugged content here> and restarting the mission to work around the problem. All of these measures takes time BTW.

THIS should not be up to us to fix or find workarounds and makes my only playable hours on the weekend much less fun. I agree that the old way was much better!

Is WvW Really Dead? [Merged]

Not a single person on my server (Piken Square) is even remotely intrested in the Desert Borderlands maps, the moment someone suggests we move from EB to a DB it’s just a collective groan followed by chuckles.

You get the odd commander trying to make something of it but 30 minutes later they just give up and requeue for EB because of how tedious traversing the map, the silly PvE mechanics and the complete lack of involvement in upgrades and upkeep of the keeps which we had scouts for, who by the way have all just disappeared.

If your aim was to make the desert borderlands a baron and unpopulated wasteland like a desert is in real life then you succeeded, if your intention was to bring about diversity then you failed so hilariously it’s untrue.

I wish more reviews like this were mentioned to ANet before they launched it. I was not part of the beta test, but if I were they would have gotten an earful; not that it would help.

I am sure many were negative, but maybe if they had as much negative feedback as they could get they might have postponed it for a while.

Some time I feel like Anet made story season 3 add a few shiny thing to it like Revenant and guild hall. Then release it one time instead of over many week and call it expansion.

Not to mention the year we had to wait for it!

I was one of the few it seems that liked and wanted the 2 week schedule to continue. I have been so bored over the last year I spent more time on the forums and watching movies than playing the game I so loved at launch. I do realize that many wanted an expansion, but I would still have settled for once a month content over this.

State of Ascended Gear / Drop is Unacceptable

I got Knight stat Ascended armor chest from Greater Jungle Wurm 2 days ago.
Today I got Tequatl’s Hoard.

Yesterday I got Zojja’s Weapon Chest from PvP rewards.

I would say that overflow of ascended chests is too high.

Would you be interested in selling a few of those horseshoes?

Please just wash them good first!

Funny how EotM and SW are generally full isn’kitten

Players want to be rewarded, and the less effort it takes the better for 99% of the populace. I am not shocked in the least. I like the new maps personally, but then again I like to put in some effort into getting rewards.

Bumping to the first page for visibility.

On the subject though I know ANet wants to push the crafting aspect of the game. Some people don’t want to do that kind of thing though and after all were we not told we could play the game the way we wanted to? And even if the new players wanted to craft some ascended gear (mostly armor/weapons) they have an extremely costly uphill climb to get it.

I also know that ANet wanted ascended to be the pinnacle of achievement, but all it shows currently with this change is that your bank roll is thicker than 99% of the players; or you are exceptionally lucky!

All I think that many of the players in this thread are saying is that you need to rethink ascended drop rates across the board, no matter what game mode you prefer. If it is in your game and you want us to play it (duh) then it should be rewarding, right?

3 years, 8k hours, 21k APs and one full equipped character tell me otherwise though.

Not a fan either, but I don’t want others that enjoy it to suffer. I just wish I could turn off mini sounds because it seems the most annoying minis come out of that place!

I have 1 fully decked out character in full ascended armor, weapons and trinkets; and I had to make 3 of the armor pieces. I have been playing the game since launch and I can understand how they want some things to be rare, but this is just insane. I don’t do many fractals, and spend a goody part of my time in WvW, but still the drop rare everywhere is extremely terrible.

Although with the change to fractals it just makes them even with the rest of us I suppose, but that don’t make it right I can’t even imagine what a weekend warrior has to go through to get any. Well I can, but it involves opening your wallet and buying the gear with gems to cash. Working as intended i guess…

More Tyria masteries in the future?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tommyknocker.6089

I have about 37 points, but more is always better. I have unlocked pack mastery and am half way to fractal. I have no interest in the legendaries, so I will end up with a few points left over.

My question therefor is, will new masteries be introduced for core Tyria? And if so will we get more content that gives mastery points?

Dev response would be nice.

New borderlands gotta go before WvW is dead

in WvW

Posted by: Tommyknocker.6089

Tommyknocker.6089

If you were going for aesthetically pleasing you knocked it our of the ballpark; it is gorgeous.

However you fail to realize the most aesthetically pleasing sight to a WvW player is your enemy laying dead around you in a (more or less) fair and even fight; you know the skill thing you keep talking about. The new borderland maps are as beautiful as they are confusing, that along with the PvE elements make it quite detestable to the average WvW player.

If your intention was to split up the zergs then congratulations, there are no more zergs there; and very few roamers either. If you want to have players enjoy WvW again, I would suggest taking away 80% of the pve (still need the lords etc) and removing some of the defenders “bonuses”. Immune from fall damage, lava and invisibility might sound good on paper, but it just makes nobody want to ever attempt a siege.

As a scenario I put this to you:

You and your small guild of say 20 try to bust down the doors of a keep, everything is going fine until you are all dead. What hit you, you may ask. Well the 20 man invisible blob from the earth side. This requires ZERO skill and as such any good fighting guild will avoid it like the plague. Cheesy mechanics are not what I want, and I am sure I am not alone in this due to the emptyness of the BL’s.

Edit: I know this post sounds passionate, it is intended to be. WvW was my life for the better part of three years and now it is either run in a zerg in ebg or get run over by one. This alone makes me one sad (soon to be X) WvW player.
