Reaper? Nailed It

Blood magic has very little synergy at all with reaper, and it again becomes the age old decision of surviving for a few more minutes or killing things in a few seconds.

Vamp presence/strikes on Death Spiral is pretty strong, great on Rise’s minions, on Nightfall is ok, and presence is good for your group in general.

Transfusion + Soul Spiral + Reaper’s Onslaught cd reduction should be great, unless there’s a hidden ICD on Transfusion.

Oh I agree for a survivability standpoint here, but because blighters boon procs only when you have a boon applied to you it doesn’t synergise very well with blood. The boon you get with spite (might) procs every time it is triggered (RS1) making might stacking VERY easy. This also heals you when in RS for large amounts.

Blood magic has regen on mark (8 sec CD), well of blood revive only (regen), and vampiric rituals (protection on long CD). All of the other abilities in blood don’t count as a true “boon” (vampiric is not a boon) and thus don’t synergise well with blighters boon to give both life force and healing.

Edit: In order to compensate I would suggest a boon at in addition to other bonuses for the other lines:

For example in DS/RS only:

Curses: Replace furious demise with fury for 2 seconds (stacks by duration) no CD
Death Magic: give soul comprehension retal for 2 seconds (stacks duration) no CD
Blood magic: give vampiric a regen for 2 seconds (stacks duration) no CD

Soul reaping could be left alone, but you could add something here as well

Spite would still be preferable to 90% of all players (15 seconds of might per proc) , but not only could the numbers be tweaked but some players may find the other lines usable this way.

Reaper? Nailed It

My biggest frustrations with reaper are:
- SR line reliance, I feel like without Vital Persistence you just cannot stay in shroud… And it interrupts skills sooooooooo much.
- Chilling Victory definitely needs longer might Duration.
- GS still seems a bit slow and isn’t as good as dagger/WH (pvp, PVE maybe another story).
- Reaper is too reliant on other trait lines (which having Reaper breaks the synergies necessary from the Base-Necromancer) and has traits that rely too heavily on other trait lines, such as Decimate defenses which is nearly useless without Spite/Soul Reaping.

So, its MUCH better than it was, but still has questionable life force, leaving RS feeling a bit weak/clucky. Boon reliance, might stacking and Vuln all seem to require Spite/Soul Reaping. Generally speaking, feels too holed into Spite and Soul REaping for the build.

I agree with all of this especially the part about about total reliance on certain trait lines to work. I tried going with death magic, but the synergy is just to strong with spite. If you don’t take soul reaping you don’t get vital persistence or gluttony, two traits that help majorly with sustain in melee.

Blood magic has very little synergy at all with reaper, and it again becomes the age old decision of surviving for a few more minutes or killing things in a few seconds.

If chilling victory had no cd and it lasted longer it might stack might as well as reapers might, but the question still remains will it be worth giving up decimate defenses for.

The choices you get within the reaper line for the most part now are a good example of how the whole class should play. But IMO giving up spite and soul reaping is, at present, to high a price to pay for what the other trait lines offer.

I agree with him here. If ANet had gone along with their original plan and nerfed the ice bow as they said they would all classes would be more “wanted”. In this case Anet listening to the whiners about how it was a bad move was not the right decision to make.

If you have no place in making the ice bow quicker, be it by using time warp for more DPS or stealth to skip, you are a useless gear in the machine according to the “meta”.

I may be one of the few but I was VERY happy they were going to change it, as I was when they nerfed the fiery great sword. No one skill should ever be better than ANY other skill (let alone class) in order to have balance!

I suppose I belong to that rare group that doesn’t have a main or a favorite of any kind. I play 6 classes, and I swap through them as needed or depending on what mood I’m in.

I am very glad that players such as you exist actually. When a certain role is needed in a party then you become very valuable. I however, usually play by way of reflexes due to the fact that I am an older gamer and I have gotten used to relying on what does what in a given situation. If I find myself in trouble I automatically use my “go to” skills to pull myself away from the brink. Even though I do play a roaming mes sometimes (not often), if I failed at that level of cheese I would just quit playing altogether.

Well it is clear at this point we need something. New maps are all well and good, but as it sits if you want any real rewards you go to PvE land or PvP for the tracks.

It seems to me that at this point the lack of attention to this game mode is just laughable. We will have to see if after Hot is released they live up to their word of making “improvements” as they said they would. In all honesty though they will have to have a community discussion with US or it could just be golem week pt2.

New skins are a must at this point as are various titles, but until they do anything at all I won’t hold my breath.

Being proactive in this case means not logging in and thus depriving me of my enjoyment. This solution is unacceptable to me thus I disregard it. If after 3 years in a game mode that gets little to no attention requires that I protest by not playing then something is terribly wrong with it.

It just seems to me that ANet is trying to attract new blood by purging it’s body of all the old blood at this point.

I do not agree, while the door is open for abuse it’s Anet that opened that door. People shouldn’t be limited, Anet should be taking the initiative to hire some in game GM’s and take measures to control/police their decision. Stop accepting the lack of actions on Anets part and start demanding that they do their jobs.

After 3 years of little to no actual policing on their part, I think it might be easier to just have the restriction put in place for now. ANet support for WvW is currently a busy signal while they flesh out HoT thus demanding they start doing their jobs will get us nowhere IMO.

This is the first thread i have ever seen where wvw’ers are now saying EoTM is WvW, and will give new players the experience of wvw…

Amazing how peoples perceptions of certain areas can shift so suddenly when it suits them.

It is still not real WvW, but it does give them the taste of deploying siege, taking objectives and generally going through the k-train motions in a pvp enviroment. If they are restricted to EotM, It does however keep them from having any impact in the outcome of the REAL WvW matchups. Yes, spies have been in the game forever, but do we really need to give them FREE reign?

As it sits most raids are done tagless by my guild due to the spies we have now ($10 accounts – BAH), the last thing we need is more distrust in this game mode. Limiting their access to EotM, does nothing to diminish their enjoyment of the core WvW experience, but it does give those that play real WvW a bit more security IMO.

I can only see spies and trolls disagreeing with this suggestion so +1 to the OP.

and i agree. but what is the intention behind challenging group content? a) is it to make people happy who dont want a challenge and cant be bothered to step up their game, or b) is it to make players who want challenge and difficulty happy?

Until it is released later today, we are only guessing at this point. I would like to know the metrics on triple trouble though, as most of the players I have asked (and the LFG tool) seems to say it is not done very often. I am hoping that all the new challenging content is instanced though (with a much better AI) even if it does separate the population a little.

wildstar didnt lose players because of the raids. wildstars PvE content is probably the best on MMO market atm. the game had and still has alot of other issues that led to players leaving the game.

As I see it most of the game provides no challenge due to the way it is played. Once upon a time when the world was new it was challenging then players learned where to stand and what buttons to push and it became trivial. ANet didn’t help their cause by nerfing some bosses out of the game (fire shaman). I am not saying some content didn’t need adjusting (fire ele) but even now the originals would be a much easier fight due to what we have learned over the years.

What I believe is needed is a new AI world wide to provide more of a challenge. If the bosses performed more like an intelligent beings, calling on reinforcements etc. and less like fodder for the lootz we would see a much larger challenge for those that want that. Also with a new AI it could be tuned to allow “stupid enemies” in some areas similar to the ones we have now for those that want a more relaxed environment, thus catering to everyone.

The problem with the berserker meta as I see it is that everyone has learned all to well where to stand and what to dodge, so wearing anything other than full glass is a time waster. With a new AI in place having an enemy attack more often, move out of the way of attacks, or just plain attacking from range would make other armors more wanted.

The two most evil words ever spoken in T1 are “PUSH WEEK”. This in a nutshell is what trading 1st place becomes. I used to be proud of my server, but lately it just boils don’t to one server “pushing” the others each week ad nauseam. Skilled play means little to nothing when one server is pushing with a map blob and your server is taking the week off.

IMO WvW is becoming less like a server pride thing, and more like EotM mk2 with the biggest guilds pulling the strings; pitiful.

Or rather edit

They are removing 3 hours/day worth of my game time by releasing an expansion with no new confirmed fractals, and removing the randomness and longevity that I loved about Fractals.

3 Hours a day is FAR to much time to spend on a single activity whereas I can be DC’d, have an emergency and or get called away for any reason. In making these into a more time rewarding experience IMO will make me and I’m sure others want to try them again. I cannot speak for others, but I have found many people in my guild that would rather do a few quick dungeon paths over fractals simply because of the time constraint.

YMMV, but I think it is a good move and I look forward to having another activity I can fit into my busy day without having to sacrifice my entire evening.

And no, I’m not one of those elitists or tryhards. I suck at dodging. I ‘waste’ them all the time. :P

Try being a necro, I use mine to move into combat range when needed due to being so kitten slow!

As for the OP, IMO they are working as intended, if you can dodge an attack before it hits then good for you, but it is the avoiding of damage that counts here. If you want the traits to fire, maybe time you dodges a bit slower.

We have so much AoE even as base necro, and thieves are still squishy as heck, with the increased damage we’re getting, plus whatever other changes we are going to get between now and then, we should be fine.

Plus I know engi has a Similar trait and it has an ICD attached to it, so if this gets like a 5 second IcD I’m not really worried.

No ICD on the dodge-modifying traits for Daredevil.

Plus “remove a condition when you evade” (with a datamined 1 second ICD) on a spec that has, by design, a ton of evades. Necro’s won’t stand a chance.

^ This. And I am quite sick of being hard countered by everything. Mesmers got a new slow condition, thief got a free dodge and we got torment, oh wait, so did everything else!

Being the slow as kitten movie monster means nothing if we can be hard countered whenever we show our faces. Chill is all well and good, but it seems it has been neutered to the point of uselessness at this point. Bah, well at least we will still be good at tagging mobs in PvE, never mind, we always were.

I make lfgs with the description “noobs join first timers welcome” and I still end up with 80s with 10k achievement points in zerk gear.

I enjoy running new people through the dungeon, so I make specific names to find new people. It doesnt make me “mad” or anything but i set out and make that lfg for specific reason. When a bunch of 80s join for ac story it kind of ruins the goal for me.

I can see your point and it is a very noble way of going about it. I however generally join the story modes because some of the exploitable paths are unknown (or difficult) for me as an older gentleman. I have 80’s of all classes with necro being my favorite (hence the lack of dungeon experience). My AP are over 20k now and I generally build with survivability in mind so strike two.

When I see a casual LFG for dungeons, I try to join them (even story) if I have the time. In essence my point is that even though you may get a few geared 80’s in your party for story, there may be good reason we join you.

Oh and thanks for making casual parties, I am sure many of us appreciate it!

You will find zero intolerance in most casual groups; that is almost always reserved to the other crowd. It may take some getting used to but you will be treated in a much friendlier manner (no gear checks). If you do make a few mistakes most parties will just laugh it off with you and continue; to a point as was discussed above. You will find little, if any elitism here, as players that advertise casual are generally just out to have fun.

Disclaimer: These runs tend to take a bit longer, but I have made some very good friends doing them.

If you make a purchase for anything, you must first put your personal price on it. If it is higher than you “think” its personal worth is, then purchasing it at that level will only bring sorrow if the price falls.

Coming from a guy that waited to purchase the dream thistle dagger skin until after they came back to the weapon dealer I think I made a wise move.

All I can say is that from my point of view I was holding out faith they would be able to give us things as time went by. I enjoyed the 2 week updates and even if they increased them to 3 weeks it would be a far sight better than what we are getting now. I had fun with constantly being able to find something new to do even if some of the updates were a bit trivial (sign posts… lol). Now I forum surf and watch movies instead of playing. Gem store sales mean nothing to a guy that sees no reason to log in.

In this case the majority that wanted an expansion in place of ANet delivering on their promise was very wrong IMO. I could take another break, but truth be told if it takes much longer I may just uninstall, as I did for LotRO and Champions Online (both of which I have lifetime subs for) and never return. In closing no matter how good this Xpac turns out to be, it is NOT worth the wait to me thus-far.

Bye. Good things don’t happen overnight.

This xpac is going to do WAY more than what has happened in the past 2 years with the boring story plot advancements every 2 weeks and flavor of the month backpeices to farm for. I had no reason to play even when they had those bi weekly updates because of how lackluster majority of the updates were outside of a very few open world fights (twisted marionette and LA siege, thats about the only fun I had).

You say the Xpac will do more than what has happened in the last 2 years, but you do realize that the game is on the cusp of it’s 3 year anniversary? That is a full year of no (or VERY little) content. I will most likely keep it installed for now, please no tears, but honestly I would have been happier if the majority here would have just let them add things as they went along as was previously planned.

You do recall they did add in the majority of crafting disciplines to 500, festivals, ascended armor, and a whole ton of other things ALONG with the “boring” other content right? But the majority complained about NEEDING an XPAC!!!! so they stopped everything to make it. Again TO ME it was the wrong decision.

Edit: If you can pin-point down exactly what causes this behavior I am sure the devs would like to hear from you so submit a ticket so they can put in a fix asap.

How long to the next big thing?

The OP brings up Black Desert. I’ve seen videos of it and it does look to have some cool things. The red flag for me, though, is that as I understand it BD will have open world PvP that you can’t avoid.

Hmm… well, I guess I won’t be getting that game.

Is It to much to hope for that all the pro open world PVPers go there?

Most likely.

As for the OP, I plan on staying here no matter what the next big thing is. I just hope that after this FAR TO EXTENDED wait they go back to a regular schedule of festivals, events and updates.

I think some of the posters in this thread need to take off the training wheels and start playing without vital persistence.

It’s doable.

Pre-patch I never used vital persistence.

If they were to again split the choice between vital persistence and the ability to have shorter cooldowns in DS/RS I would not use it now. Having DS/RS drain slower means nothing to me if my skills are on a long cooldown. Sure, both are handy and I am glad they are incorporated within the same trait now, but I survived for over 2 years without the trait, so it just was nice having it as a freebie.

It depends heavily on your playstyle. I will be extensively testing the reaper simply to see if I will finally be given what I was promised three years ago, that being attrition. However I will still use my base necro for WvW zerg balling simply because the skills come quite naturally to me and making mistakes in the middle of a scrim is deadly; especially for an older guy.

I will of course try different builds in the future, but until I have had a chance to truly test different styles, I will stick with what works in WvW. In PvE, save high level fractals and dungeons speed clears, anything works so I will use it as my testing grounds.

I would be interested to know if it still can stack 7 days of buffs. I am waiting for my current buffs to run out before I check due to them not stacking with each other.

I love the trait, but it more or less makes the spite tree mandatory due to the might stacking. In WvW it will be a must have skill even without the spite tree, but personal buffing elsewhere will be tougher.

If they were to give us an alternative boon in all the trait lines, it would make me much happier. For example I for one would not lose any sleep over losing soul comprehension if it gave any boon in shroud upon using any skill. As a defensive line that trait is quite lacking at the moment.|

Really think they are loosing out by not letting most minions give us LF. It might be a bit op but that would be again, just a numbers tweak. And if we could get some jagged horror or minion generation outside of death nova….which I know would need some work because of the whole reanimate debacle.

Even as a non-minion user of the death magic line (I use deadly strength) that minor is garbage. If I was to give a loose suggestion it would be to offer retaliation (2s per skill – stacking duration) in place of the might (15s) offered by spite. It would still be a boon and thus would trigger BB. The plus side to this is that a defensive line would actually have a defensive minor to replace it.
