Druids got rangers to become a part of the meta come HoT expansion, and as far as I can tell, meta in WvW, PvP, and Raids. I don’t see how anybody could make a sad face about this change. That’s a huge change from being on the outside looking in currently.

The dev did say he’s got changes coming for Rangers as well, so expect other boosts to rangers. I mean looking at rangers currently, there’s already enough pew pew, and condi tanky rangers are already fairly solid. The thing that keeps rangers out of the current meta have more to do with the lack of group support than anything else.

With druids, you get possibly the best group support available come HoT expansion. Smile, it’s time to celebrate.

Not sure how you can separate the Druid from the Ranger.

I strongly doubt you main a ranger, cause as far as my experiences go i am generally shunned from groups on my ranger, but if i mention i have any other class cept maybe a Mesmer i am in the group.

In WvW, you’re shunned yes due to the current ZvZ meta. It’s because aoe is everything. Except when a blob is large enough where you are asked to be a part of a pick team. Surely you weren’t expecting to see a ranger be top tier single target dps and also good at aoe at the same time? They gave you a new identity to be wanted, no not wanted, but needed in HoT. I still don’t see how that’s a bad thing.

If you like being good at single target, like being a part of the pick team, you get to stick with your pew pew. If you want to be wanted and needed, you go druid and take on a support role.

THANKS !

You made my point exactly !

Except that if you think you got pigeonholded into playing a certain role now, wait until the lack of healers ends in:“Play Druid or gtfo.”

Time will tell.

Exactly!

They have to give all classes ability to heal/tank/dps or one will be pigeon holed into having to use the new spec. As it is normal necros will be a thing of the past once HoT comes out due to having to give up our new stability for it. As you said time will tell, but if you make certain classes MUCH better at certain things it will make anyone that tries to veer from the norm sadly shunned.

Agreed. The trinity is a better system than what we currently have.

LFG healer!!

10 minutes later: LFG healer!

20 minutes later: LFG healer

30 minutes later: /P anyone want to do some farming instead?

Yep much better. Even if you find a healer and a tank they had better be 100% for every second or they bear the brunt of the vitriol from the party when things go south.

PvE lacks challenge, grind, and great loot?

PvE: Lacks challenge, yes. Loot not really.

WvW: roaming may be a challenge, although certain cancer builds (condi mesmer) make it quite one sided. Loot is non-existant.

Remember though that if rares (exotics) were easier to get as drops they would be worth much less on the TP.

I’m for them and as a matter of fact I will join them if given the chance.

Sylvari main and if it means having to kill all the other races then so be it; even though we may have to keep a few asura alive to man the waypoints. BTW I try to always play the villain in most games, but they never let you! I am so sick of being forced into being the goody two shoes in these games. In every case the canned dialog I am forced to select makes me want to upchuck! Bring on the evil salads!

Roll a sylvari, or better yet just wait a week and people will post the vids on youtube. I see nothing wrong with a race being unique, and seeing as it fits the dragon/plot in this case I say good job ANet.

Are you a [censored] I wanna play the story myself NOT watch some lame video about it !!!

I do NOT want to be forced to play a sylvari to hear this amazing actor’s work as mordremoth ! and NEITHER should anyone else !!!

This is bad design !

Suit yourself (name calling was not needed BTW). But every good story has it’s own author and not liking the ending won’t change anything. As I have said you do have choices, but I will give you another, skip it if you don’t like it, I know I won’t lose any sleep over it.

Game forums have and will always be like this. Those that want to see the game change in a meaningful direction often complain to voice their opinion; some wil give suggestions, but generally most don’t.

It is a natural human reaction and most developers know this and take the official forums with a grain of salt. At least if you are taking the time to complain you generally want to continue playing.

“Scrapper is a melee bruiser with lots of good lockdown abilities. Very good at breaking Break Bars in preparation for raids.”

Ok, so why do we need a chill centric reaper class again? AoE protection and healing for allies, water fields, a 30 sec cd shadow refuge that also reveals targets.

An illusionary defender that has more HP and is able to create a reflection field as well.

Class group utilities are plain imbalanced. Compare a 1 second cast 6 sec cd swirl that reflects projectile on the hammer to Death’s Charge, which ends at the target, is directional, and requires reaper shroud expenditure.

Compare these utilities and the traits to the reaper and it’s just plain depressing how much more useful to a group some classes will be in PvE next to Reaper.

Because they needed to give the necro something and even though every other class got more we need to be happy with what we got. Seems to be the necro credo at this point.

Might needs toning down.

Just be glad that might isn’t “just another soft CC”. At least with might you can do more direct damage. Try running any CC build and you will quickly see you are sub-par to anything that can stack might.

I would be all for adjusting the acquisition of might so long as CC gets a place in PvE, otherwise why even bother, it only makes the kills take longer IMO.

edit: clarity

There are no CC builds. There are CC skills and utilities which you can pick on any build. CC is already in a good place in PvE even if you ignore icebow.

Except it isn’t and my chill necro build disagrees with you. CC’s like chill and cripple do nothing to bosses and will even worse in HOT where they are all homogenized into one “type” of CC. Against trash the biggest stick is the only option. OK you can cripple, chill, immobilize to your hearts content, but the guy that can stack might (or the guy with icebow) will always be the guy wanted in a dungeon. Why? because the damage (strength stacking) is all that matters there.

Might needs toning down.

Just a shower thought here, how about making the bosses we fight move and attack faster natively and not have a break bar but be fully effected by CC. You would then give necros and other debuffers a reason to be taken in a party. Bosses in essence would become much more dangerous at full speed and even though you could burst them down with a power build, having a good CC class along could/would make the fight be much easier.

Might cause some problems when facing them alone, but then again they are bosses and should be quite dangerous. It just seems to me that your approach, although one option, is a bubble gum and coat hanger approach to the problem and a definitive solution should be sought.

Black lion keys & WVW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Considering how low the droprate was to begin with, 18 hours probably isn’t enough time to guage whether anything has changed.

according to a thread on reddit, at least 20 people have had keys drop since the patch.

considering that most weren’t aware keys even dropped, and how reddit is a tiny fraction of the actual playerbase, it seems like the key droprate has been increased by a good few orders of magnitude

According to that thread though it seems the majority of players that got keys got them in fractals. As for WvW I am hoping I get one there as well, but drops are rarer there and I highly doubt I will see one any time soon.

I applaud you for our effort in this, however I agree with Zenith here. What is the use of bringing anything other than might stacking specks into PvE when all you get (now) is the benefit of a dot when facing a break bar. In WvW or PvP there are reasons to bring say a pure cc build, but within PvE you are self neutering yourself by investing into these conditions.

time to balance staff skills?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Tommyknocker.6089

Tommyknocker.6089

My thoughts:

Most of the staff skills are situational and do make for more skilled gameplay; knowing what to throw when (condi clear or chill). My only problem with it is that it is our only 1200 range weapon and as such is needed by most power and condi users alike. The auto needs work though as it can be sidestepped easily and even though it pierces you need to be behind a collection of blind enemies for it to hit.

When they work on the other weapons I would like to see the auto speed upped on the staff by a fair bit myself. Maybe make the marks effect bosses too (auto cast on certain “objects”) as a bonus.

A participation counter is indeed warranted here. If, say I tag one mob then move on I should not get anywhere near the same reward as the guy that sticks with the even till it’s conclusion. I do not know how much coding would be involved, but just knowing that completion gives a better reward would go a long way to making me want to finish the current event.

My only biggest issue with this is the short amount of time we have to achieve things. I’m prepared to put up with a lackluster event as long I can get some of the rewards I badly want.

Just give us enough time, just a couple more days would go a very long way.

Or possibly reduce the cost of the higher items in the vendor, please!

Please don’t let them go down this road. If they only learn that in order to make some players happy they can just continue to pump out lackluster events so long as they last longer then they learn nothing.

I can understand that you want to grind out some skins that you really like, but would you or the general populous be happy if all events became like this in the future? I think not.

Having the mobs drop nothing is a terrible idea. Even if they dropped trash, whites, blues, greens, rares etc it would be a reason to have a good magic find. It seems to me lately that not only are you phasing out a reason to have a high magic find, but the creatures don’t even give stacks to go with our sigils (LW2 huge culprit).

The event in and of itself would be more fun if you gave xps and rewarded more loot upon completion of said event, giving the players a reason to not tag and go.

Oh and giving the mobs a chance to drop blooms might be a nice way to augment the ones we are given; perhaps reward one or two upon completion of every dynamic event.

Get strange feeling of upcoming nerf

in Necromancer

Posted by: Tommyknocker.6089

Tommyknocker.6089

First i dont think necros (or reapers) need nerfs but if i had to point a finger at something it would be the might generation of the spite line.

I would probably remove the minor that gives 2 stacks of might against targets below 50% (siphoned power) and make it a flat damage modifer on enemies that have the vulnerability condition on them.

Boy that’d be nice… For a lot of reasons…

Mhhh should i give some reasons why i come up with such a suggestion?

You could, but I’m already with you on the idea. If they did this maybe they could also make Chilling Force not awful. :P

Ah yes, the elephant in the room has reared it’s ugly head (I have nothing against elephants btw). Because reapers might requires nothing more that to hit with S1 it can stack might to max level quickly and, in essence, makes spite the go to favorite for any power build. This was less a problem when the S1 was slow as molasses, but reaper changed that. The +20 to -50 helps lots too, but as that is a grand master trait it is fine IMO.

Nobody wants to talk about nerfs seeing as we were the punching bags of classes for so long, but if they were to spread the love to the other trait lines it might give us a reason to want to take them. I am not saying we should gut the spite line but fair is afterall fair and when one minor far outshines all the others it is a problem.

Chilling force would be a nice start and increasing the duration of the might be one way of giving us a way out of having to take spite. Seeing as we have to hit a chilled foe for it to fire, makes it much harder to stack and makes using it more or a skill and less of an auto. The death magic line could also use some love here, and even if ANet does not want to remove the soul comprehension trait they could add to it.

If Robert is reading these forums I would suggest not to nerf us (if any was intended) but to even out the other trait lines so as to make them more viable to the average player.

What worries me is the fact that there were people in /m talking about how much fun they are having doing it and that they don’t even care about getting no rewards. Are people really so easily entertained? This is the epitome of terrible gameplay.

Here’s gonna be a shocker to your MMO-reward-driven mindset.

Sometimes… I mean, just sometimes… people can have fun without a tangible “reward” at the end. Sometimes it really IS the journey that’s more important than the destination.

Yes, I know… that runs completely contrary to the conditioning MMOs have driven into your skull over the last fifteen years. But it’s true. It really is.

ONLY if the end justifies the means.

The hero still wants the maiden at the end of the story
The hero still wants to be known as the man that killed the dragon
The hero still wants some form of recognition for his great deeds
The hero still needs to feel his effort was worth it even if only for the admiration of his peers

You get none of that here. What you will get is an empty feeling in both your wallet and your soul for spending 30 minutes uselessly.

At this point I feel quite bad for the people who created the event.

I bet they went through some rough days at work lately.

Justifiably too. If they set out to create an event where the most selfish behavior is rewarded then they succeeded admirably. However this MMO was suppose to be different and as such is still was advertised as a group friendly game. This event in essence has set us back to the tagging mob days of WoW.

Adding to this is the “new player experience” of no loot and no experience and you are telling new players that unless you are willing to grind 24/7 then you will not even get any good rewards. Unless they change the drops/rewards drastically I cannot see many players, old or new, bothering with this event for the weekend; I know I won’t.

Although the nonexistent drops really disappointment me I am more disappointing in the other things this event lacks. The big bad mordren guard are just a rehash of the same AI and creatures that have populated silverwastes for the last 9 months (although there they drop stuff occasionally).

If this was intended to be a reveal of the new creatures, AI or as any type of challenge it was a terrible display. This event is at best a zerg fest that rewards players for not sticking around to see the boss destroyed before moving on. At least with the scarlet event you had to learn where to stand and what to hit occasionally in order to succeed.

the big bad modrem guards are not in this event. If you’re thinking of the news article, it is about HoT.

There isn’t any new creature or AI in this event.

I stand corrected then. So basically this event is just SW creatures without the possibility of loot drops and kitten poor rewards that require I farm even more than I ever did in SW. Not to mention the WP cost.

I wanted to agree and reiterate the Vital Persistence baseline with a nerf to Spectral Mastery. I feel pigeon-holed into 3 trait lines and losing out on the support options/sustain with Death Magic and Blood Magic lines. I think that’s the most major issue I have with the mastery so far.

Otherwise, I think Reaper is shaping up to be the best, and most needed mastery.

While I would love for Persistence to be baseline, I felt just fine using Blood Magic over Soul Reaping all weekend as MM or even normal Reaper.

MM is one exception because with the amount of pets (protectors) you have you will want blood, death (pet line) and reaper; soul means less when you are your own petting zoo. The other exception is if you go condi, then you will replace spite with curses. You could run spite, curses and reaper, but your LF gen for RS would be terrible.

Other than those two different play style exceptions though if you are going to run power you will want spite, soul and reaper. I am not referring to a regular necro here, just reaper.

Edit: you could run a different combination, but your damage output would suffer immensely for the sake of a small increase in survivability.

Reaper is so overpowered, especially condition reaper. It needs a hard nerf… my pu mesmer had a hard time vs a reaper necro running a condi build and fire spam in shroud. With duelist traits, a mesmer should effectively duel and defeat ANY class or player 1 on 1 with ease. Please fix reaper before launch because its not even close to fair now. It is borderline like stealth trapper condi thieves which kill you without ever being seen accept you can see them and they simply have 2 hp bars and burst you down with extreme damage

Seriously coming into the necro forum and telling us we need a nerf (as a mesmer), we must be moving up in the world!

AFAIK all the classes should try to be balanced, that means the better player will win every time. I am sorry if you are so set in your ways that necro should just be a free bag, but if you want to defeat one now, maybe up your game and learn our weaknesses.

Trying not to be rude here, but did you expect us to agree with you after so many years of neglect while we got stomped 90% of the time by mesmers and only being wanted in a WvW zerg. Your complains are falling on deaf ears here; much like ours were for years.

I’ve played against Reaper’s with other classes and different builds but it just seems that I can’t find a way to go about any of their burst reaper skills completely draining my health on not just one, but several characters with my different builds. Thats all.

I’ve got one move that’s garunteed to work against all Reaper builds: stay further than 600 range away. Reaper’s got nothing he can do then.

Bug I’ve discovered: can’t use gs5 if you’re not facing a mob but staying still (normally the char would turn around after clicking the skill if you’re not moving)
this also applies to gs3

This explains why those 2 skills felt so awful, buggy and unresponsive during my bloom solo.

Yea this is really annoying, also the 600 range limit is very bad and should be buffed to 900.
This is the only thing i do like to see changed on reaper rest seems pretty good.

I would still like to see the other trait line give us something to compete with spite as the might gain is just to good to give up and the +20 damage is just icing on the cake. Also chilling force is just to weak to compete with decimate defenses with it’s 1s cool down. GS 4 should be an aura that follows the caster and please shave off some of the aftercast and make the gs more fluid.

If all these could be done I would be a very happy gs wielder.

I’d much prefer they try to work on getting the actual weapon(s) to function a bit better (out the door) and leave the aesthetics to another time.

Is it logical, not really, but neither was pyramid head’s sword (as was shown above).

I want them to merge Chilling Darkness into Shivers of dread. Fear application is too low for this trait to be very good. With the new Death’s Charge, chilling Darkness has exactly what is needed for Reaper, in this spot. And it acts as a means of anti-kiting while in shroud.

Something like: Chilling Darkness – Applying Blind or Fear causes 2 seconds of chill. 4 second ICD per target.

Then make Death’s charge 3/4 cast and have a more smooth animation and less aftercast.

Gravedigger could use less aftercast, or a 1 second cast and leave the AC.

I’d LOVE if night fall followed the Reaper like Torch 5 warrior.

Vital Persistance needs to be baseline. Spectral mastery needs toned down to compensate that more people will use it (and it’d be stronger with VP baseline)

Spite needs some of its damage boosters and might moved to reaper so that reaper can do something other than SRS reaper.

Curses needs buffed for damage. Some of the Life Force from soul reaping needs to be added to Death Magic. There needs to be better reason to use other trait lines with Reaper AND it needs to be less punishing to not take certain ones. Currently everything is in Spite/SR while the rest are mostly forgotten about.

^ Exactly this. If the only trait lines that count as a reaper are consolidated within 3 trait lines it makes for extremely boring game play. Having gs 4 follow the reaper has my vote too; it never worked as a root, but as an aoe placed upon the caster makes using it more fluid with the grasp (when it works).

Reaper is hands down awesome

I agree it could use a bit more lf gen along with better sustain in fights. At range the LF pool may be sufficient but I find it just melts to quickly in melee. The gen on dagger is superior too, but even axe/focus will generate LF better than the GS due to the long cool downs and casting times.

I think they nailed it on the GS damage and the shouts though. My only concern now is chilling force. The might should be upped IMO to 15 seconds like the spite one that doesn’t even require you hit a chilled enemy and has no delay. This trait cannot compete with decimate defenses in it’s current state.

Edit also by making chilling force a good way to sustain might, you could reduce the dependence on spite.

Dueling?

I agree. There is no reason to not add dueling and mounts other than, “I don’t want it, so I absolutely don’t want others to have it ever.”

There are lots of reasons.

1 reason isn’t a lot.

Fine then I will post a few:

1) I don’t want to be followed around the map by 3 year olds constantly spamming to duel them.

2) I don’t want to have to change maps when said 3 year old pesters me forever and won’t take no for an answer.

3) I don’t want to hear in map chat how <insert slandered individual here> is a chicken for not dueling <insert said 3 year old here>.

4) They have PvP arenas, WvW, and soon guild halls to accommodate those that want that kind of thing.

5) I don’t want my exploration disrupted by players fighting in open world when I just want to explore an area (petty maybe, but I like serenity sometimes).

6) I feel the dev time could be better spent in other areas.

I could come up with more but these are the ones that bother me the most.

P.S. IMO We don’t need another topic on dueling, as the forum is littered with them on a constant basis by only a few very vocal supporters.

Oh I agree for a survivability standpoint here, but because blighters boon procs only when you have a boon applied to you it doesn’t synergise very well with blood.

I do agree that it’s less good with blood, or at least with a blood + sr build rather than spite over sr.

Once I switched from BB and DC to Reaper’s Onslaught, I haven’t gone back. The new iteration is great and synergizes very well with blood.

I will try it.. i got all weekend after all.
