As for refunds: if you’ve had these account-bound items for ages, we won’t be doing refunds because you’ve already derived substantial benefit. If, however, you bought them more recently, we’re doing refunds on a case-by-case basis.
This seems kinda sketchy to me. If I work full time, and bought the item in question 2 years ago but only used it a few times, does it not warrant a rebate?
On the flip side I am a no-lifer and bought the item 2 months ago but used it multiple thousands of times I will get a rebate?
Unless you are running some internal numbers on <uses of item> it doesn’t seem fair.
I’m keeping my gem store gathering tools on all my characters (4 sets) that have them because equipping and unequipping them is a pain even with a shared slot. I did submit a ticket for the extra royal pass and the extra 3 copper feds I have so I am hoping they will at least reimburse me for those.

STOP COMPLAINING. Anet is trying to cater to everyone, and I think GW2 has a great balance. There isn’t anything game breaking that prevents casual players from playing.
I could care less for the raids, nor do I care that X players needs Y equipment for Z meta. What concerns me is the constant reliance on watching the clock in order to get to a meta in progress. Dynamic events should be IMO player driven or we are no better than furniture in a massive player game.
So to address the quoted section: “There isn’t anything game breaking that prevents casual players from playing” I will add, but they must set aside time to watch the clock with HoT.
Honestly it does not have to be US vs THEM thread at all. And if it is a conflict it is only those with tons of time vs them that don’t ANet has driven a wedge between.
I love the Halloween & Wintersday events!
If you like these ones you should have seen them 3 years ago, when they were truly spectacular.

I remember when people complained that Gw2 is “too casual”.Now people complain that the game is not “casual friendly” and too challenging.Shrugs
Well I for one never heard the “too casual” argument, but then again I was playing it for over 3 years and enjoying myself and hence didn’t post as much here. I am now sitting out the game due to the new directions they have taken with HoT.
From what I read on the forums the complaint from many people is not that is is too challenging, but that timers are a constant reminder that we need to work on ANet’s schedule and not on our own. I have honestly not seen many complaints at all about the difficulty of the new monsters but I have seen/heard complaints on how the new maps are far to focused on verticallity.
If anet had gone with a more varied direction to accommodate all play styles I am sure the forums would be much happier with HoT. The long time players have learned that sometimes certain things are not for them, so we don’t bother with them. As HoT is a large collection of similar things though, it makes skipping “certain things” more difficult and in my eyes does not warrant the cost I paid for the Xpac.

We got a post not long ago about not killing ambients.
Now we get a post about not killing mommy doylaks.
I guess some people won’t be happy unless we all take up knitting. Sorry but I like killing things to relax after work, and as a matter of fact I imagine all the things I kill to be the customers I had to deal with all day.
If that makes me a sociopath then so be it; it is my free time after all and I did pay for the game too.
The only way you will get any action on this issue is if they decided to move their e-sports venue to the BLs.
Other than that you are, as my dad would say, whistling in a windstorm.
How about Hyenas that bark instead of howling, like the real things do!

So long as they lose the cripple effect they could have rainbow angel wings and sing old Led Zeppelin songs for all I would care. Actually if they sang Led Zep songs I may actually want to see them occasionally.

Next Xpac?
Kitten, I’m not even sure we got a first one at this point. DLC maybe, but not an Xpac.
As you are not on the design team you don’t know if they have worked out a way for it to work. And for all we know it will only be in certain zones and in certain areas. It may only be in that one area shown on the vid (orr). As it sits now we know nothing more than what we have been shown so instead of saying that WE don’t want something, maybe wait till all the facts are in first.
Well T least there was no melee around to rush in and stop the kids from throwing rocks at each other and mix it up like some real fighters.
We don’t need no stab to be good in wvw!
Just need moar cowbell!!
erm, I meant necros.
I have but one question….
When can I get a icon with my rank next to my name in PvE where it means nothing?
Never? K thanks, bye bye…
Well I bought HoT, but I won’t be buying the next one unless they get rid of the Mario Wars 2 theme park style. I also won’t buy the next Xpac unless I see many vids on what exactly is going to be added.
I care less about being surprised at what may be included at this point than I do about getting a more well rounded experience for all play styles; mine included.
So do I get to keep my Legendary badge for the next season?
Badges stay until the next season starts. So enjoy your badge during the current season and the time between seasons, but once the new season starts all badges will be reset.
ANET really needs to rethink this entire system. I don’t want to see PvP rank outside of heart of the mists. Make it more content specific:
1. In hearts of the mists, show PvP level
2. In PvE, show the mastery level
3. In WvW, show the WvW rankI don’t care about someone’s PvP rank when I am in WvW and it is just screen clutter.
Exactly. I don’t even bother with WvW currently because I feel like a second class citizen to the esport crowd there. And yes I can turn off names, but why should I, when those tags have nothing to do with your standing in WvW and have no bearing on PvE whatsoever.
I played WvW for 2.5 years and gained a descent rank even before EotM, why wasn’t my rank displayed in WvW to allies during the WvW seasons? Seems to me your priorities are a bit skewed currently. I do understand you wanted the free advertisement that the tags offered, but I wonder if the WvW crowd will get the same treatment when and if there is another season.

I actually enjoyed GW2 at launch much more. The jumping puzzles were optional and sparse as was certain content such as SAB, fractals and drytop, with most other added content more to my liking. With the release of Hot and the awful new WvW maps (although gorgeous) it seems to be more in your face, even though they implemented gliding in the new maps. Making us jump through hoops, literally, to get to the best jump off spots to complete content such as map completion annoys me.
I can avoid certain things as was mentioned, but I paid for the Xpac and when I can only enjoy a small portion of it without having to rely on jumping it was/is a waste of my money. I wouldn’t mind paying money for content even if I cannot enjoy all of it, but at least let players such as myself enjoy the majority of it.
I know many disagree with me and that is good, we need differing opinions. However, this Xpac offered me very little to enjoy, so I am playing something else until I see something more to my liking.
People have been saying that GW2 is dying since day one. They’ve all been wrong. I’ll just add this one to the pile.
The difference is that on day one they were concentrating on every play style and not just a certain crowd. With the new shift towards verticallity and esports being the main focus many players IMO have had enough.
I know I have, and unless the game shifts back to being fun for me I will continue just log in for my daily. The only reason I continue to do so is in the hopes it improves someday, until I loose interest entirely that is.
Hopefully you have realised this already and understand that people quit for this reason
No most players quit because they finished hot already or 95% of it.
Or just didn’t bother with 95% of it, even though they bought it; you’re welcome ANet. I bought it, but I am not happy with the direction they took with it, so I am playing something else.
Hint: it is more horizontal.
Well, I tried that. And it’s currently on page 4 with only a couple of constructive replies :I
And therein lies part of the problem. Other people will be more inclined to give their opinion on a topic if they have even a slight reason it will be viewed by someone in power. The CDIs were in essence a way to be sure your opinion was indeed looked at.
With all the “noise” posts on these forums we have no reason to assume they are being looked at by anyone else save the occasional mod. And in most cases that will just combine them in a single thread.
The other problem being that the CDI’s could be a real painful experience to read through, but even one gem idea in there was worth it IMO. The alternative is, what we as players can only assume, are being seen and heard. This becomes more difficult in a combined thread that may or may not be on the exact same topic depending on the mod that merged them.
…snip
+1.
Also, you should bring back your post on timers. You explained my sentiments almost exactly and thank you.
Thanks, but I think we have summed up the gist of it here. I don’t think if they listened to us then, they will listen to us now, but it is nice to know that other players feel the same way.
Well, for people with real jobs, this sounds a like a heck of alot of ‘scheduling’. What every happened to spontaneous fun? I wouldn’t be surprised if Anet implemented a punch clock..so people can just punch their little play cards, play the predefined x amount of hours and get their precious wage, err, loot.
Well except for DS, you can do any map at any time. The times I listed were simply when the maps transitioned between phases.
That’s our point, we don’t want to play to a clock, so technically you can’t do any map at any time. Otherwise you could jump on a TD map and do grenth at any time, but you can’t. These maps should have been player driven like SW. Sadly timers seem to be ANets thing. Which is….. Well you know what I think.
Can you jump onto any map and do a world boss at any time? How about an Orr temple?
Yes, we could do that. Not at any time, but at a lot of times. It was player/event driven, but not on fixed timers.
Only with the implementation of the megaservers a lot of world bosses were pulled out of their event chains and were put on a fixed time schedule.
Sadly, this kind of timers seems to be A-Nets thing.
P.S. Not all timers are bad. I liked the timer of “Escape from LA”. You had a 45 minute event and a 15 minute break (or 50/10? maybe) and the timer was part of the story and does not felt arbitrary.
I totally agree with you here and as a matter of fact I made a post about this year(s?) ago when they first introduced the timers to bosses and mega servers. If ANet was trying to give the semblance of a player driven world, they should not have gone with timers IMO. With changes such as these they take the feeling of conquest over a major hurtle, to being no more than a waiting game, and that in return removes the epic feel completely.
The exception you noted was a good one BTW, but it seems they sadly decided to make it the norm.

I’m sure the npcs in the new BL’s could use some company, it has been days on some servers since any of them have seen a player.
BL?
BL = borderland (not to be confused with EotM or EB – eternal battlegrounds) So not as often referred to outside of WvW.
I’m kind of bored with that too. You gain control of one enemy camp and an hour later, an enemy has recovered it, then the cycle goes on and on and on and on….when does it END?
It’s boring.
There must be more to life than this.
You kill one thing and then what happens?
It respawns…
It mattered more when more players (roamers) were around to actually fight over territory, now it is a very large ghost town unless you are into zerging in Tier 1 EB. Even then the pirate ship meta (lack of stability blob vs blob at range or dead) makes for a TOTAL borefest.

Well, in matches is hided so you can’t focus, for example, on low ranks since you can spot them.
In PvP lobby yes, it has a point.
In PvE, well, people show their level/mastery level but cannot show their “pvp level”? I think it’s a bit unfair.
If anything, i’d suggest to make it consistent (strange uh?).
So under name there’s the title, right of the name there’s the guild, left of the name there should be the overall character/account status: level or mastery level, WvW level, PvP level with 3 badges of the same size or sorta.
So if you take a look at someone, you’ll see his overall status. Then hide it when is not needed (like in pvp matches).
If only they let me show my platinum general rank in PvE, I would not have felt so ostracized to the PvP crowd. But all these tags IMO should just be allocated to the game mode they pertain too anyways. All they have done with this tournament is show that the only portion of the game they give a kitten about is their precious esports.
sw is the only actually active map atm in open world content.
Well tbh it is an area you can get/go to that does not require HoT. But my honest opinion about it is that it is busier simply because it is NOT on a timer.
I know if I personally only had 20 minutes to play I would use the LFG and find a SW map at or near 75%. I did this because if I am not anywhere near the correct time for the other metas it was a waste of my time waiting for them.

To each their own; wrong forum btw.
I personally lost interest in stages, with the new vertical maps with more cheesy PvE being yet another bad choice. I am currently playing other games because the endgame here, for me, is broken.
And all my hours of hard work getting my ranks up was wasted unless you count the 2 greens you get 90% of the time in the chest. Final nail was when the esports crowd got recognition before I do even in my own game mode, so I quit!

Well done anet, you had one of the best community s maybe the best in any mmo, look what YOU have done to it.
The saddest thing is that they didn’t have to go this route IMO.
Even if they took the dev time they had allocated they could have done a much better job of making things for everyone to enjoy. Instead they went with Silverwastes as their template only with timers (grrr), for maps and threw in a bit of drytop for the verticallity. The raids were never really asked for save for a small minority, although many said they wanted more difficulty.
Had they just increased the difficulty of all open world critters in all non-starter areas by a touch (with more variety), and made only a couple new maps in the drytop style, they would not have caused such a stink IMO. The other maps could have been flatter, as the older maps are, maybe throwing in a few hearts for flavor, but with the new improved tougher critters.
The problem is they they pushed the pendulum to far in one direction and after years of a more or less casual MMO we get the division of beliefs that is so prominent in this thread.
I personally miss season 1. Even if it was a zergfest sometimes, at least you could play with others without having to party up. The 2 week updates were awesome even if some of them were lackluster (fence posts).
Players wanted an XPac and more instance based story mode, so be it, but I will always remember season 1 with fondness.
Edit: then again I am currently in an MMO transition (again) so I sadly, most likely, won’t see the likes of it ever again.

After three years of being broken we defiantly won’t see it come any other way.
I wish!!
15 char…
In WvW, no.
In open world, debatable.
I can’t stand the new Mario Wars 2 flavor of the game myself, but so long is it is optional I have no problem with it in PvE. I don’t want it in my WvW because when I am fighting the enemy the last thing I want is to be trying to figure out how best to maneuver a ledge while trying to stay on tag.
I look at it this way, just because you can make a replica of the great wall with manure it don’t mean people will like to play with it!
How is WvW you ask…
It could be better especially if you can ignore the headstone…
Spent 3 years of my life in GW2 and the last Xpac taught me to not rely on ANet to deliver on the things I like to do. Instead they went with the SAB crowd with the jumping and verticallity, and the elitist with the e-sports and raids. For many years I was content having 3 separate areas within the game where you could be decent at whatever and not hear a single “GET GUD NUB” uttered. Now it seems the target audience was never players like myself, even though the manifesto made me feel like I would have a home here.
If they were to release GW3 or even another Xpac at this point I had better see video coverage (that I like immensely) or I will not even bother.
Burn me once, shame on you, burn me twice, I’m an idiot for putting my hand back in the fire!

WvW feels like its been greatly ignored and for people who play the game mostly for WvW have quit logging in from my guild. The new WvW upgrades from the guild hall need scribing and we are all like why is this necessary? We had all these upgrades and we paid for a expansion to unlock things we use to have?Saying the new rewards had no baring on the expansion its not true at all.
It doesn’t help that everywhere you turn you get to see these kitten tournament icons in both PvE and WvW, and they hold NO bearing there AT ALL. I only log in for my daily now due to the content I enjoyed being placed so far on the back burner you may as well be using a magnifying glass to warm it up at this point.
WvW to me is as dead as the rest of the game has become, but I’m sure they will make the next round of e-sports belittle everyone just as much. The good news is that at least we know where their allegiance lies now.

And I think I agree with you. It’s efficiency that’s the key but relaxing can be incorporate. Being efficient doesn’t mean you have to stress out. If it isn’t fun for someone, that person should stop doing what he’s doing and re-evaluate the pros and the cons.
Let me describe what’s my typical day in Guild Wars 2.
- 1 hour – pre-reset: figure out which daily is left to do, and finish it up.
- half an hour pre-reset: ask in guild chat if guild fractal group is full while afk at sparkfly
- Keep afk at sparkly til 3rd battery, read google news, tag the last battery, drop meteor shower on teq’s leg, get 2g and a chest
- If guild group needs a person, join the group, otherwise LFG the 9 fractals – This takes approximately an hour
- Fractal dailies done, gather flowers, log on all char gather flax seeds, gather guild node, gather home instance node – This should take an hour, while waiting for more guildies to log on, read some news, read some reddit, watch youtube.
- Guild fractal group should be done, 10 people on ts, get ready for raid. I’m still watching youtube.
- Beat raid, this should takes 2 – 2.5 hours if it’s progression day, 1 hour if it’s make up day for whoever needs whichever boss.
- Finish wintersday daily, do 3 pvp matches, chat on ts, afk at SW
- Log off
I don’t know but I consider myself a casual. Sure there are some part of my game time that requires maximum efficiency but for the most part, I just relax and afk a lot.
Seriously, you keep a tighter schedule than I do at my job. If that works for you then great, but I never planned anything when I played as, to me, it is a game and not my job!
If that is what it takes now to get the “full experience” for some players I am glad I only do my 3 dailies and log out now (although I do plan them now so I can leave quicker).

Diamond membership:
Comes with a new title <I won GW2>
To the op, I am usually a pretty fair fellow with my criticism, but all those ideas are bad. A better idea (if they really need a sub) would be just a flat membership fee and have them work on ALL areas of the game equally.

The basic problem is that most MMO players have no concept of how much it costs to run an MMO and expect the game devs to keep adding more stuff for players to do while the player base wants it all done for free.
You only have to read all the posts about what the Devs should be doing to make this game great, but NEVER have I seen anything about offering to pay more to play it.
Far too many players living in economic fantasy land.
Would you be happy if GW2 was P2P like WOW with the same monthly sub?
They had the choice at launch of making it BTP so the fault is theirs if it is not working out financially for them. They instead made it a F2P game with a cash shop, but in return they nerfed the rewards we get in the core areas by a large degree. The esport direction does not interest me in the least, nor does having to live my life by their clock in their new version of Mario Wars 2.
IF I had to pay a sub at this point to help with making new content, it had better be a small amount. Although lately all they have shown me is less and less of what I like to do.
The message seems to be do not do any thing that wild star did.
You would think that would be a no brainer.
I guess all those out of work devs had to go somewhere; just to bad it had to be here.
I predict fourth quarter profit figures will be abysmal. I’m not buying the expansion unless it’s offered at a substantial discount. I feel sorry for all who got conned.
4th quarter will probably be quite good due to HoT sales and milking the populous through the gem store. What I want to see is their next quarterly report when those that are being milked have either run dry or have decided to leave the farm.
I have no regrets. They gave me massive amounts of entertainment for the 3 years I have played GW2. The new direction and hoping the WvW scene improves are the only reason I continue to do my dailies and have not uninstalled. The path they have taken with everything being on timers and the reduction of loot in old PvE have made me unhappy with their new model.
Maybe one day they will decide that e-sports and verticallity is not the only content they should make, but until that day I am playing something else.
I agree completely.
The first Halloween was grandiose as well. Since the first year all the festivals have lost much of what made the game alive for me.
Queue the 30 posters telling you it is easy and you just need to L2P.
Yea I love the new GW2. /S
I suggest you don’t bother with it and instead do something (anything) else you find fun.
I am not even doing this wintersday, save for dailies, simply because I find very little of it fun anymore and am instead just playing something else. The holiday season should not be spent in frustration within a game, personally I got family for that.
Happy Holidays!
I’d like the see those claiming HoT is not challenging link videos of themselves soloing stuff like, say, some of the Hero Challenges, maybe the one in VB with the Vet Teragriff, pack of wolves and mender. We might learn something.
Even if we do get a poster or two that can do such a thing, it means next to nothing (or should).
Those 1%ers will continue to speed run arah naked while watching youtube and eating dinner only to show that everyone else should GIT GUD & L2P. If only means that a very small portion of the community can do it, it doesn’t mean that they need to make all future content suit them, nor should ANet do so.
As has been said, challenge is subjective but building around only the best of the best will make for a very empty game full of only the elitists IMO.
And that’s the sad part, Anet seems to lean towards these 1%ers that tell others to GIT GUD & L2P.
i would disagree, Anet has not built the game around the 1%, in fact only the new raid is at a high end – and eventually that will be become accessable to all once the tactcs are well known and people stop being anal about builds.
I actually never said they have built the game around the 1% as up until now they have taken a more or less casual approach to the design of the game. My concern is that with their current focus on verticallity, esports, and raid content they will start to design towards that end.
You need look no further than the skins of the past being given out for minor achievement versus the new skins they have released. Adding to this is the exclusivity of the legendary armor for raids and raids alone. I believe I am not going out on to big a limb here to be concerned for the future.

As an alcoholic that has been sober over 15 years now, I find no problem with it. I am sure that there are many other things in a persons life that would make them fall off the wagon (or start on a binge) long before an achievement in an MMO. Also I have no problem with many other things that PR jockeys like to spin for the worse now a days.
Having a problem, and learning to live with it in real life and the consumption of imaginary items in a game are two VERY different things. This is the same kind of garbage that made some people believe that Dungeons and Dragons lead you to devil worship. Both are equally full of kittten!
