Main Sylvari Necromancer – Monkshood (deadly poisonous blue/purple plant)
Norn Warrior – Lycan Thrope (Norn can shapechange)
Charr Ranger – Charnivore (pet is named “fast food”)
Charr Ele – Charnoble (as in the nuclear reactor)
Asura Guardian – Pragmatic
Asura Engineer – Innept (spelled wrong because he is inept)
Human Thief – Mouser
Necro scepter is the best choice for a condition builder. Along with dagger as a second hand weapon and the appropriate utilities/traits your a condition machine.
Player and poster. I post when I am eating dinner or when not able to set aside enough time to truly enjoy the game. I have no problem with the game save a few bugs that I am confident will be fixed with them concentrating on core content over new content. I usually play about 6 hours a day on average; give or take depending on work hours. I feel that if it ever came to me not playing the game anymore I would leave my opinion at the door on my way out as I have done with many other games. However, as this is a game I plan on spending much time with I will continue to support it with both opinion and cash.
Changing it to targeted such as BiP would make it more useful. With a combo of BiP, this cloud, epidemic and offhand dagger(4) it could be VERY nice for PvE, but as has been said moving out of the areas is quite easy for an AoE and as such the negatives outweigh the positives by a rather large margin. The poison field aspect of the skill could be made to center on the target instead of the area thus making it a nice roaming field too.
Between the NPCs in town and the warriors always spouting off about their “great justice” I have just learned to use my mute button while within cities. Although this may now be the best solution it does work.
I do essentially the same as you, save that signet. Unfortunately if I want any maneuverability at all I am forced to use the signet of the locust (or take the trait Quickening Thirst). I find I can still kill things fairly quick just using BiP, epidemic, Dagger(4) to pass conditions, and finally DS(4). I have a D/D build that works very well with this; anything still standing I widdle down with a few swipes of my dagger.
I play a D/D necro vampire (I know not compatable, but it suits me) and as such I would love to see the life siphon get a boost. Putting a minor poison on the dagger chain attack wouldn’t hurt either. As I never use minions (AI is usually bad to terrible in these games), even once fixed your changes wouldn’t apply to me, but I’m sure many would find them quite valuable. Your DS changes sound interesting, but honestly I would settle for just seeing my actual hit point pool while using it. Most of the other skills/utilities we may see eventually, but until they fix the core mechanics I can’t see them adding much here.
Actually the “point” of my message is that “I” don’t want to have “my” atmosphere ruined by “your” dueling whilst within the PvE post-searing enviroment. If you feel the need to fight others within said area then I would make a compromise to add arenas. But open world duels, as you have said yourself is akin to WvW and as we have that already I see no point. As for messaging, I do know how to ignore, but that was not my point at all.
Some people might say not being able to brawl ruins the atmosphere, think of the RPers, brawling is part of fantasy, movies, books. Nothing will change, you wont see Lion’s Arch filled with people fighting all over the place. The places you most often visit in PVE will most likely be the last places you will find people dueling.
BUT, this contradicts the lore and story TOTALLY! The nations put aside their petty squabbles to fight the terror that is the elder dragons, so even “playful” to the death squabbles are illogical to the lore. RPers or not, if you want a game with lore that allows for this then may i suggest you find a game than more suits you. As for me I like it here.
Then explain wvwvw? sPVP? Duels will not be fights to DEATH, duels are just friendly fights until the other player reaches 1 health and submits.
Friendly fighting is still fighting and with such a delicate balance between races as it stands now ANY altercation (even those to “mostly dead”) between races/clans etc could cause large scale civil war to erupt within Tyria. I think our problem is that I am looking at this from strictly a lore perspective whereas you are looking at it from a purely “makes sense” point of view. This will only lead us around in circles and as such we will unfortunately never agree.

Put aside a place in every city designed as an arena for the duelers to “play” only. Upon entering this area you are tagged as a duelist and can both attack and be attacked by other players. Doing this will keep the players vs environment atmosphere prevalent in the PvE open world intact and allow those that want to duel a place close by to do their thing. As a non-dueler this is a win/win for me as I wouldn’t have to ignore duel requests (although some may still send messages to that effect) or watch others in the PvE game world reverting back to the chaos that was pre-searing. The PvE aspect of this game was designed as co-operative and as such watching players duel each other should be kept separate from the main PvE game.

Lionguard Lyns will be returning in the end of January build without the Black Lion Keys in her inventory. She will then remain up for everyone to liquidate their Commendations and will likely be leaving entirely after about a month.
Sounds like they have a new system to replace Commendations.
With Lionguard Lyns, give her a new job in the world to do. Make her part of the story.
This is actually an amazing idea. When I used to DM in AD&D (2nd Ed) I used to take NPC’s that were no longer needed in the main story or module and incorporate them into the world as scenery. This not only makes the players nostalgic for the “good ’ol days” but has the added benefit of giving players a conversation starter for newcomers to the game. She already has a memorable name, so why not leave her to “guard” the newly build statue walking a path to and from the lighthouse offering maybe just the salvage kits or gathering tools for a small DE favor.
Thank you. As a player that didn’t bother with the keys but instead bought the 250 salvage kits and the gathering tools, it is nice to know that i can once again stock up on these items.
The only infinitely repeatable achievement I can think of is Agent of Entropy that you get for salvaging stuff. Playing normally (ie. never going out of my way to salvage stuff), I’ve gotten 140 points out of 4224 total points. I salvage everything that vendors for less than 90c.
If all I lose is those 140 points, I’d be okay with it. However, I’m not sure that I’d qualify as someone who went crazy. It’s 2 points per 200 salvages. So, I’m at about 14,000 items salvaged.
Also, based on the screenshot and the value of dailies (9) and monthlies (35), it looks like you can get a nice amount of stuff each month with the 305 points you’d get for completing 30 dailies and the monthly.
Really looking forward to this.
Just want to quickly point out to get out ahead of it since those numbers are wildly off. You receive 1 crown per daily, and 10 per monthly. (We’re also still tweaking the costs of the items shown in the screen shot, and will continue to adjust them until until the system is released.)
Will we still get the mystic coins along with these new crowns? And will the current karma rewards be effected?
BTW I am loving the direction you are taking in rewarding open world exploration!.
For me it would be a Necromancer. It fits me in that I have the choice to NOT have pets. I can hit hard enough with conditions and still have plenty of survivability; although he isn’t as forthright with his damage as my warrior he suits me.
My Charr named Charrnivore.
Nice to meat (pun intended) you, I took the name Charnivore for my Charr Ranger as it looked funny (to me) with the extra R in there. It’s nice to see others have the same twisted way of looking at things.
Zeldain, I can understand your frustration and to a certain extent agree with you. However in this world, kitten happens, and being able to see into the future won’t happen (at least in my lifetime) and as such all the beta tester in the world can’t foresee problems that can and do happen once live. I am not a fanboi in that I too am upset at the way these bugs have consistently put a damper on this game I wanted to be much more complete. But with his replies over the last two weeks he has at least admitted that they are committed to fixing the problems that have come to light and putting any “extras” on a back burner. To me this speaks of professionalism and should be respected even if we don’t get everything we wanted out of the box we can at least say they are moving into the right direction. Also I am sure they they had an agenda to get the game “out the door” by X date, even though they said when it’s ready, so some things had to be unfortunately compromised. Let us hope the next six months prove to iron out all the problems that should have (I agree) been working on release.
This project was delayed in favor of having the specific folks required to build it skill-set wise working on solidifying the core of the game. You’ll hear more about our ecosystem in the future, but we’re not actively working on this project, in favor of making sure the core game itself is as fun and rewarding as possible.
Edited to add: We’ll discuss what sort of projects we’re doing instead in more detail in the blog post later this week, and even in more detail as the Jan/Feb/March releases get closer.
This was one of the features I thought would put GW2 squarely in the “next-gen” category, with support for external channels right out of the box… very disappointing.
Well he did say it was going to happen eventually, and even if it takes a while then at least the core of the actual game will be the benefactor. Although it doesn’t have your idea of “next gen” out of the box (bit late now) I’m sure many players will be happier to have better, more reliable loot drops, less buggy traits, perpetually working DE’s, bosses that are more innovative etc. etc..

Totally awesome news. Although the app would have been nice to have, if making the core game more stable (bug fixes) and fun (rewards) for all is the compromise then so be it. Thanks for the update.
Could be solved for DE’s by having gates open up that the monsters spawn forth from. These could be on a timer that allows a few seconds of “oh kitten” time to get out of the way (portals take time to activate on both ends as reasoning for delay). As for the fast respawn of the open world monsters, they should look at the players in the immediate area and reduce/increase the spawns appropriately.
some do, but I find it boring because they never drop anything good for me. what’s the point of fighting one for 5-10 minutes if you get a green?
sad that people don’t look for challenges only ego gear
Challenge is good, challenge is great, but if I have an hour to play the game and that is it; do I A) spend it taking out one champion or
taking out some trash mobs? In essence the trash will drop the same loot with many chances at the loot table as opposed to the champ. I don’t know about you but I look forward to my paycheck every two weeks as I have earned it, with the current drops on the champs it is like a full time job with volunteer pay.
Oh, so you have to think about getting paid while playing a MMO now? Isn’t a game’s purpose for personal enjoyment? Unless you’re playing the game to get paid that is, but that makes you a gold seller wouldn’t it?
ho hum..
risk != reward = not fun (or if you like challenge you could always stick a fork in your eye, trying to dodge it, and call it a game)
risk = reward =fun… (nuff said, and it seems many agree with me on this as most champs are left alone in the world I’m in)
I’m sorry but we will just have to disagree on this one.
Edit: and the paycheck analogy was just that: a way to show that if it is earned it should be rewarded, not some kind of statement towards getting monetary reimbursement.

The drops suck…

So long as they did a reset so some of the DE’s start working, I’m happy.
Not much actually. A few bug fixes and some other way of getting ascended gear possibly, but all in all I’m not expecting to have much more. High hopes lead to disappointment.
Your starting items for certain classes should be saved as they are unique.
The Necro mask and the guardian shoulders are examples of these. I’m sure someone can point out all the ones there are, but those should be kept if you many to transmute them later on.
- Monthly PvE multi map rewards instead of the hybrid WvW/PvE we have now (if i have to PK it is belongs in a PvP area).
- Fishing with higher level maps producing better/more fish for trophies/recipes.
- Trophies for bosses/champs that can be mounted on the walls of…Player Housing (won’t be in Jan but I can hope).
- Scavenger hunts and buried treasure, make them span many maps at higher levels.
- Crafting recipes that require special drops only found in certain maps on certain creatures .. make karma venders have new recipes for such
- More alerts for DE’s that will even tell you of DE’s occurring in other maps with increased rewards given to those that have been active but not done for some time
I like Orr. I like the concept of Orr. I would like to see more people around though…
There should be “Orr Offensive” meta events, giving extra whatever.
I personally would like to see more DE’s to take key areas (temples) where the NPC’s are not totally useless. If we are driven to take areas to get to the karma venders etc. why in Grenth’s name can’t the npcs scale in relation to the amount of players in the area as the enemies do? This would make these events seem to the player to be more of a push to the objective and less of a babysitting assignment where you spend more time rezzing he npc’s than you do being heroic.
Well in the AMA it was said that the ascended gear was released “badly” and it was never intended to be released through just the FotM. To this end I would like to see it released not only to the karma venders, albeit expensive, but also through crafting and as a chance drop from champs. Even if they only allow it to be attained one other way I would be appeased, because as it sits if you don’t want to grind FotM you will never get any ascended gear.
I wanted greater marks so badly, but after having that little bugger get me into a few unwanted fights I decided to use the trait point elsewhere.
+1 get rid of the annoying guy.. if I want to be a lone vampire with D/D why should I be forced to have a minion just so I can have some toughness?
On the other hand, when you go into a dungeon, you cannot see if the other guy is in full MF gear, ripping off the rest of the party.
Guess it depends on what you want.
Although true, I put the blame on this behavior in the Dev’s hands. If for instance they allowed the magic find to benefit all the players in the party, then it wouldn’t matter so much what a party leech is wearing. As for not having the inspect feature, I too think it is a nice thing and promotes conversations.
“It was the other reindeer I tells ya”
“And it all started when they wouldn’t let poor Rudolf play in their reindeer games”.
“One thing led to another with Santa finally having to put the old boy down:”
Eye witness elf, reporting from the scene on this horrendous event…
Now back to amber and the weather…
Edit: Feel free to replace the word “Santa” with “Tixx” and the word “elf” with “Azura”.
Merry Christmas one and all…
Edit 2: Feel free to replace the phrase “Merry Christmas” with the phrase “Happy Wintersday”

I just wish i could sell them. After making one mini (soldier) I sold my stuffing and glue and made enough to outfit one of my alts with a few exo’s. I’m not interested in the unlimited tonic and If I could sell the cogs not only would it free up space but put me further on my way to fully outfitting him.
As others have stated the term “concrete data” is somewhat open to interpretation, however, I will give an approximation of how it effected my farming character. In frostforge sound the day of the patch I had just done a troll run consisting of apx 40-50 trolls along with the champ and after this I go and sell. This before the patch usually guaranteed usually one rare, a number of greens, and quite the few blues and whites along with the inevitable few salvage and mats. After the patch (the same day) after the exact same run, that I have done many times since, I never get rares, only a few greens but mostly just blues whites and TONS of junk, salvageable and mats.
Although this may not meet your criteria of being “concrete” it sure feels to this player that I am now in perpetual DR hell. Thanks for reading.
If ANet had used a bit of fore site and just made toys emerge based upon the players in said area (similar to DE’s) then I might actually bother with them. As it sits now, I ignore them, because opening them for the presents isn’t worth the possibility of killing a fellow adventurer that may happen upon the toys when I loot and run. As others have said they take to long for the rewards offered; then again most of the content seems to follow this rule. Hopefully this, as with all the latest content, will make ANet collect enough information to make future changes for the better.
On a side note the reason the doors in the open world (Halloween) were more fun (utilized) was due to the fact that they did follow the rule of DE’s. Meaning if more players were around the content got harder i.e. more spawns. Assuming that the players are in a group in order to open these little packages of death, alienates a good portion of your player base. Making only the best builds/players even bother with them and for the rewards not even them most times.

Personally I can’t wait to buy my legendary without even having to enter WvW or PvP. No need for a star, no need to grind, no need to be, well you know, legendary.
Seriously I would rather save both my time and money and use another mystic forge weapon.
Yep I must agree on these guys being quite the bit overboard. I don’t care about my monthly as I have never gotten it, so the award for it means nothing to me. My armor however does and as such I can’t be bothered to open these little boxes ’o death with the nice deceptive wrapping anymore. Besides I found many open world races such as centaurs drop the gifts so why bother. At least the Halloween doors were fun these… not so much.
I’m so glad I’m immune from damage in Death Shroud……
[Knockdown, pull, knockdown, DS runs out… dead, well that didn’t go well]
If you consider that with five races all sharing the world of Tyria that eventually (and I hope this happens) every race will have some form of celebration going on at any given time. I’m not overly concerned with this even being similar to our Xmas, so long as they can come up with many many more race related holidays as the years go by.
Using auto cast for “for great justice” = annoying (better just to have a rotation using it before every fight).
Using auto cast for “signet of rage” however = win…
P.S. I try to remember to turn it off when in a city, but after a while you don’t even notice it.
No, Anet doesn’t care about you. They only care about making more money. Maybe if you buy a whole new copy of the game. Hows that for spitting in your face?
These forums need a downvote option, maybe then we can get rid of the non-constructive posters.
Back on topic, I don’t think so, but you may be able to get it in either a chest or as a drop next Halloween. As we already have the witches hat I already think we got the better end of that deal.
Hmmm… lots of technical problems lately, i’m gona try going back to LOTRO as well. maybe.
I have to thank everyone for keeping that game alive as I have a lifetime membership that I haven’t used in over a year now. If I feel like it I might even go back there someday to try and get one max level character. So far I am very happy here so I can’t see that happening anytime soon.
Back on topic, they left you cold, don’t be to concerned with returning the favor. A nice mail message telling them that you are closing down the guild (and keeping the bank) should suffice. So long as you give them a time frame your covered IMHO.
I’m sure the devs know. Anything you might hear here though, unless accompanied by a red name tag, would be conjecture only; and they’re not telling
.
I run hot and cold usually. Either I get a backpack full of whites, with the occasional blue and rare green (rare are VERY VERY rare) or I get a ton of junk with lots of non-droppers. Some will attribute this to luck, but lately if my “luck” is poor I either run an alt in a lower area because the drops don’t matter as much or log out for a few hours to see if it improves later on.
Thief currently, but I have had trouble with my necro also. The shortbow although an awesome weapon for the thief requires some finesse and I lack it, or so it seems. I will revisit some of the lower level areas and see if maybe it helps me to learn some techniques. At this point though i feel unless someone paints my cursor a neon pink I will keep losing it.
Not sure what you’re talking about. I play staff ele and never have a problem targeting my aoe skills. Do you have the autocast ground-targeting option on? I would turn it off, because then you can see a green circle where you are targeting the skill before you use it.
It is not that I can’t use the AOE skills, it is that it is detrimental to being in the thick of things and using them. I don’t have auto ground targeting on, I do however find that by the time I have targeted something I am usually being beat on by a mob. Unless I have a few pets between myself and the opponents this has proved on many occasions to be fatal. Also I find sometimes just figuring out where my bloody mouse is can be troublesome and by the time I can locate where it is I am already downed.
I was only wondering if someone used a special mouse technique for targeting but as this thread has gotten only two replies it seems I will stick to the weapons that use little or no aoe’s. Thanks though
.
I’m not sure if it is just me, but I find that if I have a choice between a weapon set that uses targeted AOE (red circle) and one that doesn’t I choose the latter. Even if the targeted skills are much more powerful I always choose a weapon that I don’t have to target because in the heat of battle I am at a loss as how to use these skills and usually cast said skill wherever the mouse happens to be pointing (usually no where near my opponents).
I have heard of a 3rd party mouse program that creates a circle in the middle of the screen for use with this game but I am loathe to use such as I don’t want to find my account banned someday. I have also read that keeping the mouse positioned near your character makes these work better but I find as I use my mouse it Is a pita to keep centered constantly.
What I would like to know is what if any other suggestions you, the player base might have to help me learn to love the little red circles.
Thanks
attended (part 1 only)/no loot/mail
Thank You ANEt, no more one offs please!
It would make having a power/crit build more appealing, Especially when using traits that heal on attack. It might become to overpowering though and would have to forgo loads of internal testing. If added though I know my thief would benefit greatly from it
.
taking out some trash mobs? In essence the trash will drop the same loot with many chances at the loot table as opposed to the champ.
