Thank you for finally treating us as more than like the illegitimate step child of a failed marriage and actually working to change us. I cannot speak for others but even though I love the class it seems to me that EVERY other class has had more done to/for them, than we have. Every month I await the update hoping to see something that might be a nice bonus or make me want to rethink my build, but every month I come away with the same bad taste in my mouth.

This is not a complaint in the least, to the contrary, this is a sigh of relief from a very LONG playing necro waiting for something to say I can do better than another profession.

Yep defending is a thing of the past now. Not naming servers, but this morning I showed up to a complete wipe of the eternal battlegrounds map; and what do you think was upgraded? You guessed it, nothing. Why bother defending now when the name of the game is currently Flip Wars 2. If you put up any defensive upgrades at all then it is just a waste of cash and chances are you will be flipped in just slightly longer with a couple golems.

Sad but true, even with a couple arrow carts (when they work) you can’t hold back a large zerg perpetually circling your map for the WxP and eventually it is just best to just join your servers zerg.

Personally I feel the reset of points is meaningless. People spent points in something they knew was completely OP and should be punished with being forced to keep those points.

Except that one of the only ways to force a thief from stealth will still be the AC tier 5 ability, and it adds a poison dot. After reset I am planning on dumping all my points into AC, although I had previously had points in other areas. The damage/range, to me, is less meaningfull as making thieves visible to my fellow players in the field.

Please punish me, for once this punishment is more of a reward from ANet.

Exactly..to counter them,to hold them off for a bit.Not to wipe entire zergs with pressing 1 , 2 ,3,with only 2 people manning ac’s.Also im not even talking about the range, thats ok with me,it’s the damage that needs to be looked at and if not changed, then make it so that ac’s cost more supps to be build, they are far to cheap.

Well if your zerg is in anyway competent, they will think ahead and have supply. There is no rule written in stone that says one MUST head bang the gates in order to enter the structure. If your zerg is carrying supply is is a simple matter to set up a few catapults and an AC to protect them and blast a wall into dust and THEN entering. Seriously If all you want to do is follow a zerg mindlessly then maybe you deserve to be wiped by a few guys in AC’s.

Did you even read my post ? Because your reply doesn’t make sense whatsoever to what i said.

Umm yes I did, you talk a zerg being in range of said AC’s being wiped by such with the defenders using only the 1-3 keys.

My reply was WHY are you in range?

Ok let me make it more clear… if you and your zerg is being wiped by a few defenders, then stay out of the little red circles and use your head.

Try this, set up a treb, defend said treb with 5 players to deter enemies from taking it out on foot, aim at keep/tower/castle, hit wall. NO ac can hit you if you are smart enough to stay away from them, and if you’re lucky you can even take the AC’s out.

If you’re talking open field (why would you) just rush them with said zerg, simple, ACs are VERY weak and will fall to 3 players in a matter of seconds. If you are still having problems though circle around and take them out. Honestly if your having problems in the open field with AC’s maybe pack a little less glass in your zerg.

In closing, the damage is fine, the range is fine, even the supply cost is fine, what is not apparently is some players inability to think inside or outside of the zerg.

New Improved World XP = good

Greater Variety and More Rewards in WvW = bout time

Dangerous New WvW Abilities = meh, i have to see what these include before I offer an opinion

Introducing Infusions and Ascended Gear in WvW = rings and amulets ONLY, dropped the ball on this one ANET. I, and I’m sure many others, already have these, what we want is another way to get the accessories and backpieces.

WvW Matchup Changes! = remains to be seen, but lets just hope it went through some major tests or else it could lead to some very uneven matchups.

Us on IoJ, we have a core group that will fight till the last supply camp falls and when that happens, we’ll be popping breakouts and hitting keeps straight after!

QFT.

We’re try-hards. We’ve been through A LOT worse. The amount of money IoJ has thrown at inevitably lost upgrades, siege, and repairs would probably blow minds. I’m sure Anet loves it. But we don’t mind. IoJ is the fighting server. We’re like the splinter in your finger that you just cant seem to get out. A little irritating at times, but bump it just right and the real pain sets in. Pain that you can’t get to go away.

In all honesty we just love to have fun. And it’s a really AMAZING feeling to see so many people more than happy to join WvW and learn it because we’re doing alright for once. Once in more than four months.

We have our decent weeks, and we have our bad weeks. This has been our first REALLY FRICKIN GOOD WEEK since December.

So thank you all for the good games.

I’m on DH, but I must say I respect you guys in ioj. I have only once had someone do the /laugh at me when i was defeated (3:1 but that is just because I am tanky as kittten). You guys really do deserve the “stick to it” medal if there ever was one, and for your good sportsmanship, you have my respect.

Mind you I will still farm you for badges when given the chance; No hard feelings.

Tommyknocker.6089

I like the change, it made no sense that an AC could melt other siege as easy as it did. I man an Ac, and when my points are refunded I will put all my points into AC just for the ability to keep the thieves away from my towers etc. The damage is good yes, but I can tell you from experience that ONLY the really stupid stand in the red circles for more than one volley, the rest disperse, and this is how it should work. If you want to take out arrow carts, then set up a treb with a few protectors; problem solved.

If all you want to do is zerg from place to place then of course your gonna have a problem with them. If however you put a bit of thought into it the AC’s arn’t anymore of a problem than any of the other siege. As for the rams, a third protection shield could be warranted, however I think that having your most defensive guys operating than switching is a much better choice.

Edit: quoted from another thread.

“Second questions:
Will the trap spring even if:
A) the person walking over it isn’t stealthed, or
B) the person walking over it doesn’t have any supply?

Answer:
Yes, any “Enemy Player” can trigger the traps. This means that pets, clones, Npc’s, and ambient creatures CANNOT trigger the traps. This design was set so players wouldn’t put traps (especially the supply trap) on supply holds. Image if your zerg/small party didn’t have supply and went to restock at supply hold that had a few supply remove traps. As soon as the team has supply BOOM “Trapified” your supply is gone. "

Might have been a better option for the only thing that triggered the stealth killer trap be stealth, but that makes too much sense.

No thanks, even with an option to turn off dueling, I FIRMLY believe you and players like you want this to be default off in the options so that you can still catch a few unaware players. Grow a pair and enter PvP or WvW if you want to but leave those that want it to their PvE.

Tommyknocker.6089

Well I may be the outside man here, but I like the change; damaging siege with the AC we could do without though. The damage is quite high, but you are given red circles to get out of the way of and logically I would expect to die if a fully loaded arrow cart were to let go within my vicinity. Yes, a few arrow carts can decimate a zerg both large and small, but the only problem I see with them is that there is currently no counter to them.

If for instance you were to make the other siege immune to arrow cart damage (like wood is gonna feel arrow pain – right) but not the operator then setting up a catapult as a counter to the arrow carts becomes a real possibility. IMO these things are suppose to HURT and if you’re foolish enough to stand in the way of one, expect to die.

Axe2: I agree with Mindx here, although it can hit for decent damage on a single target, it need something more.
Axe3: This skill is the only reason I main an axe, when in the kitten, you can hit this to cripple/reflect in an AOE, enter DS and hope there is a furry bunny or similar around to dark path too while running. Also comes in handy for slowing down anything chasing a teammate; the only well rounded skill on this weapon IMO.

edit: all in all it’s not the animations I have a problem with using an axe.

SOTG Interview: DS To Get a Unique Condition

in Necromancer

Posted by: Tommyknocker.6089

Tommyknocker.6089

A DOT could be a putify skill that allows the necro to excrete a disease for a few seconds that when attacked in DS causes the attacker(s) to not only move as if crippled, but inflicts then with a disease that until cleansed will cause them to add a random condition (chill, poison, vulnerability) every 5 seconds. This may seem to be a bit overpowered but most classes can cleanse conditions fairly easily every 10 seconds or so, and this would make “target the weak” worthwhile to take.

As we really have no way to “get away” quickly this one ability could even the playing field a bit for us.

Do you feel powerful?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tommyknocker.6089

Tommyknocker.6089

From my necro’s point of view:

In WvW YES I do, I may not hit the high numbers, but you support well and that is all that counts when your with your server mates. It also helps that it usually takes quite some work to get my profession down even when being swamped; but this also is support as it gives my server mates a chance to escape.

In PvE, NOPE, I cannot hit the high numbers and it just seems EVERYTHING in Pve from the dungeons to the open world has far to much health. I may as well go for a coffee while taken out a veteran or even some normal mobs. I realize ANet was going for an attrition class with the necro, but in PvE it just doesn’t hit hard enough to feel useful, no matter the weapon.

In PvP I couldn’t tell you as it isn’t my forte, but if facing players in WvW is any indication, I am sure it would feel quite balanced and fun.

Just make us hit things a tad harder in PvE, cleave, higher weapon speeds for some weapons or something, because as it sits even a full on condi master is kitten compared to a regular warrior.

Here’s hoping it was just a bug that snuck into the code. I’m not a fan of CoF because of the players it tends to attract; yes I have a guild but they aren’t always on. I like to do a bit of farming in Cursed Shore now and again while I listen to some tunes just to take the edge off after a long day.

I never posted when I saw the veterans would spawn with as little as 5 players joined in, nor did I post when I saw that champs started to spawn after only 15 or so joined in the fight, but a spider that can hit for 15k…

O.K. I realize that you at ANet want to discourage players from farming endlessly in an area and have put in deterrents to stop just that, but for the last 3 months you have allowed a blatant farming path to go unchanged in CoF P1. I realize also that the boulders can be tough without a mesmer to port it, and the average non-dps party might take a whole 10 minutes to run it, but to not chance this border-line exploit and instead continue to buff Cursed Shore is, in a word, inane.

Open world PvP = WvW here.

Players go into WvW with the knowledge of knowing it is a kill or be killed atmosphere. If you are looking for any other form of “open world” experience you are just showing yourself to be a griever, trying to pray upon the unsuspecting masses that prefer a more relaxing enviroment.

Give WvW a chance, but don’t be too surprised if you are the one being grieved.

Wrong, he mentioned a PvP server (never to happen in gw2), “unsuspecting masses that prefer a more relaxing environment” join PvE servers not PvP servers.

Sometimes. I’m sure plenty of players in that other game joined a PvP server not knowing what they were getting into, or just miss-clicked the wrong server. Once there you have the choice of getting kacked by grievers or paying to transfer to another server.

Either way I’m sure players won’t want to flip the bill for a PvP only server, that would require it’s own personal maintenance, balances and bug fixes. That will never happen here, thus the reason they created WvW.

I play nighty on Dh and I can tell you the “teaming up” theory of yours is a complete straw man fallacy. The main reason any sane player would concentrate on the eternal battlegrounds over trying to take out an enemies home turn is the main castle and that only. Personally I have gone in with many teams into both DR and IOJ’s home turf, but for the most part the “gem” in WvW is Stonemist Castle and thus should be the main target along with the surrounding towers for protection. Maybe the reason your losing is due to the fact that you don’t have enough players doing WvW on your server, but so long as your red your dead as far as DH, and this player, is concerned.

You should consider yourself lucky to have such a large pool of rings to choose from. Sell them or hold them until ANet decides if they want them to be salvageable if you don’t mind using the bank space is my suggestion.

so…….the fact that these people have to band together in the first place doesn’t indicate that they may have some issues with each other? they may fight about those issues.

i fight against separatists and flame legion all the time. this is not a good argument

like seriously…..nobody ever in the world would ever have a conflict that they would want to fight about but they go around killing perceived enemies all the time?

this is actually stupid

They “had” their differences (issues) in the past according to the lore, they have had to work them out and join forces for the good of Tyria according to the story.

Flame legion and separatists are just that, separate, as in working for the elder dragons be it directly or indirectly does not matter.

If conflict between player’s were to erupt it would be taken up by the player’s faction (remember those) from the personal story and the player would have to face judgement from them for “breaking” the truce. Even fights within the same faction would be severely judged as it would be seen as infighting and thus making that faction weaker (something no faction wants).

As to your final comment on the stupidity of my post I will just say that you are just ill-informed as to the facts presented within the personal story so I will just let it slide.

In a ga,e I played years ago, can’t even remember the name, if you wanted to duel, you turned on the option. It would show other players you where looking. 2 players meet, they both accept the duel, they disappear in to an instance. That would be fine, and I can’t see any reason the duelists would reject that.

If you wanted to go the personal instance option, I would suggest a dual waypoint. Where once you agree to the match you are ported to your own area (even if it were the arena), and when finished you could resume in the open world. This way if you wanted to duel whilst waiting for a dragon to spawn it wouldn’t affect the players around you in the least. You could even have a spectator mode toggle chosen by the duelists if they so choose so other players could spend the day getting hints on how to play a certain class if wanted.

This thread gets posted at least once a month (usually more often) and my reply to it will be the same as always. It doesn’t fit the lore in pve. In which we are all suppose to be banding together to fight the menace that is/are the elder dragons.

You may say but we have open world skill challenges that require “dueling” but these are placed within the world to test you for the upcoming war and not as a means of defeating the npc thus they always surrender.

I personally have no problem with an arena because this could just be another test to see if your character is ready for the war to come. Having open world dueling however makes a mockery of the lore and instead becomes much more reminiscent of a bar brawl.

Honestly if the mods refuse to merge these threads how bout learning to use the search function.

Costume brawls are voluntary. You “suit” up and go. It’s a blast to me because it’s not a bunch of little morons running around asking for duals to ppl that just don’t care to. Almost irritates me as much as the old gold moochers did.

True but the pro-duelists will never utilize costume brawl because there is no the fun in showing off your obviously superior gameplay when your dressed as an ooze.

Irrelevant topic, people that want to work in a team environment will favor CoF P1, whereas those that like the solo feel of pent/shelt will go there. If a players enjoys the former he/she will do multiple runs thus netting him gold in that fashion. The same can be said for the latter. Time being the subjective factor to the player either one can net you a good chunk of coin if you are willing to spend enought time doing it.

If a player can stomach hours of running CoF it will of course give the best “bang” for the buck as the rewards are constant, but as I don’t enjoy the company of strict adherence to some arbitrary ruleset and/or builds, I much prefer Cursed Shore.

@Mairenaianelle.3849 Canadian actually, and my only point was that if you are actively playing the game you therefore must enjoy it so what is the harm in supporting it. Granted many people the world over would find the cost of such a luxury off putting, but if you want it then either spend major time farming or cough up. I prefer the latter just because I know I will never have to buy another mining pick until they release a higher tier material.

@Mystic.5934 The store sale does say exclusive so it may only be for a very short time, I prefer to not take the chance the other two are not released anytime soon.

Money sink…

It cost me 0 gold. It did however cost me $10 real world money, and as I love this game $10 or even $30 for the set for development of the game is to me a bargain. Why does everyone here compare the in game gold as the cost of items is beyond me, if you want to support the game take a crowbar to your wallet or quit complaining at the “cost” of things.

Being account bound would be nice for the gem cost, but as I am not an alt-aholic I don’t much care.

Yet another Gem exchange rate spike.

You can buy it unlimited amount of times.

So it is not the same then?
You still have to run back there every time it runs out of charges?
So it is actually not even remotely the same?

Or inventory space if you want to carry an extra stack…. Bought mine this morning and the lava spout is just a nice bonus to never having to go stock up on the diminishing variety.

Using periods in chat... Opinions?

I play with a keypad and in order to type in chat I must switch to my keyboard. Punctuation be kittened, most times I’m lucky if my teammates can understand what I just typed let alone worry about proper sentences. If I’m not in combat or doing something that requires me to use my keypad I will usually try to use caps and periods, but as this is a game and I’m not being graded on it I don’t much care so long as I get my point across.

Why are classes so hit-and-miss?

There are always people out there who want to play a profession because of the feel of the profession rather than the numbers the profession generates.

I love the feel of Engineers and Necromancers. Otherwise I wouldn’t spend so much time lobbying for them to get numbers that suit those feels.

Well said. I too love my necro, but it boils down to the time factor in pve. With a warrior it is dead and gone far far quicker than with either of these two professions and there is the problem. When you have survivability but little in the way of damage, such as you have with the necro, you must stick and move more thus leaving yourself open to having to avoid much more damage (dodge/kite) over time. One false move on a big attack can see you dead whereas the most glassy warrior, a built that is suppose to have inherit weaknesses of survivability, get a pass because it opponent lies bleeding much much faster.

Finding a nice medium for the devs will be difficult, but when your glass cannon necro provides at most a good tickle to the mob with the damage done as opposed to the warrior the balance is far overdone.

Some of the posters here have given me new faith in the human species, thank you for that. After reading the plethora of posts similar to the topic heading on the lfg site it is a breath of fresh air to see some players still play the game for more than just the shinies.

I play a necro. I have fun playing the necro. We have a couple of guys in my guild who main necros. They love it.

Maybe you’re just too focused on damage.

And there is the problem. WE the players are not so obsessed with the damage aspect as with the ability to take down our opponents quickly and easily. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my necro main too, but in a world where DPS is king the guy without the raw damage is playing a losing game. If they were to make condi damage individually stack or increase the base damage of some of our abilities then we could be just as much fun but actually be wanted in most parties.

What I am trying to say is that ANet set up the chessboard but it is now up to us to try and win the game with only rooks.

Mega events should be epic

IMO what is needed is already there. If you want that epic feel, then all that is required is more stages requiring input from the players. Take Jormag for example, you stand in one spot till the wall comes down, after a few waves you let the npc’s shoot him from the sky, move to a different area and rinse and repeat till the chest spawns.

This could be made much more epic if the players themselves had to shoot him from the sky, using the turrets and bazookas whist making it so there was no safe spot to stand on. Even giving the claw the ability to breath while airborne (with appropriate red circles) would add more urgency to making him land without actually giving him more hit points. After a few changes like these the bosses would start to feel much more boss like and less like an afk fest with a chest spawning at the end. The trick I believe is to never one-shot anyone unless they are stupid enough to continue standing in the red circles after being attacked.

Living through a boss encounter can feel epic.. dying horribly because you didn’t move fast enough does not.

People are dumb, the simple builds that work are desired above all else.. the unknown is shunned for little reason beyond “I heard it was bad”

Rangers and Necros are far from useless, just harder to get great performance from really.. good players on these professions do great things.

I agree up to a certain point. As a necro main in PvE I must cast blood is power then focus (4) and axe (2) to kill an enemy quickly. A warrior can do the same with one 100b AND the enemy is dead quicker. Of course it depends upon the build, enemy fought etc. but it just seems that having to use 3 buttons to do less damage than one button on a warrior isn’t a skill issue it is a balance one.

I agree that in the hands of a skilled player some lessor professions can do great things, but must we all be Mozart in order to play a banjo?
