Tequati Was Supposed To Be Hard

With this, hopefully Arena Net realizes that they have to make even harder content.

Harder /= fun, which is what they made the Teq fight. I can finally get into Sparkfly in my home server to try the fight because everyone realized it was boring and a waste of time. Golem Mk2 should be the target they’re shooting for here: They made it harder AND more fun at the same time.

+1 to you good sir, I am of the camp that believes the other remakes of the bosses were the real reveal this time around. The electic fields around the mark II are deadly, but give you an out in that you must get out of them. The timer on the shatterer insures that there will be players on the mortars, and making there be no safe spots for the jormag fight means players have to pay attention. IMO teq is just an experiment in futility if you don’t have perfect conditions. DPS not high enough… not gonna happen, afk/untaught guy on the turret(s).. nope there too, overflow without any co-ordination forget it.

I could go on. As it sits now I look at someone with the title I am more likely to think he camped it for 3 days straight in the beginning of the week or got it with a dedicated guild in a pre-determined overflow. IMO for open world content I give it a C-.

From an interview with ANet:
Q: Tequatl update is nice but it destroys your party, home server due to overcrowded home servers and overflows
A: We are aware of it and actively discussing it.We were hoping originally it would take days/weeks for players to defeat Tequatl instead of 12 hrs.
http://dulfy.net/.../26/gw2-eurogamer-expo-livestream-notes/

Good Lord. They were expecting people to fail for WEEKS! And still be doing this in the hundreds, every 90 minutes. Is this a sound judgement of player behavior? Especially since this game was supposed to be casual friendly.

That was my first impression too. If they plan on making all the bosses similar to teq, it will make only a very small portion of the player base happy. Challenge is a nice thing to add to the world, BUT they have to tone down the severity if they want to keep the casual friendly stamp they seem to want to endorse. They don’t seem to realize that their vision of “players banding together” is not what actually happens when everyone on the map has their own agenda. Add into the mix the overflows and bad % chance at good loot and you are just asking for your players to give up after they get the title (and some like myself even before).

Few Anet posts

IMO what they did with the other bosses feels to be more like what open world content should be. Golem MKII for example became more fun overall with the timer and electric field. ANet if you are reading this PLEASE make other avoidable damage fields similar to these, they hurt and can kill if you stand in them for more than a second but, and here’s the point, they don’t one hit kill you if you move out of them. Jormag can be a pita but is doable, so long as you can get a feel for his rhythm; the cold wave in the second part could use more illustration though as it is hard to see against the white frost background. Maw however still needs to become more than a punching bag and needs work.

I guess my TL;DR is they need to realize that open world content needs to be made more pug friendly in order for it to get done regularly.

On subject, I truly hope the reason for their silence on the forums is just due to them stockpiling suggestions similar to those I gave above; otherwise I have just wasted another 15 minutes of my life not unlike the last teq fight I was a part of.

ABOUT THE METHODS OF ESCAPE AND DEATHS

in Necromancer

Posted by: Tommyknocker.6089

Tommyknocker.6089

It goes back to when the game was in its development.

“When you lock horn with a necro, one of you will die…”
- Devs

Necro is designed to not runaway. That is all.

Norn necro is what you’re looking for if you want that “oh kitten” button. Their elite snow leopard not only has dash, a VERY fast escape, but if you pop the 5 second stealth either afterwards or before you will get away 99% of the time. It’s just to bad that the only racial elite that is of any use to a necro has to be on the least necroish race.

IIRC during the first beta dark path was an ground targetting teleport. It was deemed to overpowering by the devs; somthing I disagree with. If a thief can disengage at will then why can’t we?

I can understand that anet wants us to be THE attrition class, I’m just wondering if I’ll still be playing when that day comes. As it sits now the only class that comes close to attrition is the guard.

Sad part? This event will die soon.

Let it die. I have tried (honestly) many times and if you don’t have a good combination of both good turret runners and dps, co-ordination so as not to spawn many champs, you will fail. Once I see it getting done more frequently by, oh you know, normal non professional players on team speak, then I’ll pass. I am happy you a have done it many times, as for me once will be enough.

in Tequatl Rising

Anet assumes that those in the area actually want to finish the content. Sadly they don’t realize that many players have nothing better to do than lie there dead or sit on a turret enjoying the cursing from others. In much the same way they don’t realize that one hit down mechanics are ludicrous in that not everyone will bother coming to your aid.

Honestly I don’t care if I hit (power) like a little girl, just make me be true attrition (healing) already.

Fast forward one week.. teq the ingored. I’m sure though that those that say he is awesome and it is nice to have a challenge in PvE can band together with like-minded folks. Although they will fail too when even one pug refuses to get off a turret. I am glad it has been done a few times, but it don’t belong in the open world where getting trolled and wandering unknowing groups can spawn champs.

Co-ordination over teamspeak, check
Watching the vids and knowing the fight/phases, check
Having competent guildies on the turrets removing stacks and poison, check
Splitting into small groups to defend so as not to trigger champs, check
Leaving the laser defense at 20 seconds to give a small time boost for the dpsers, check

We did all this and still only managed to get him to 60%. If this is your answer to raid content, even though we jumped through all the hoops, then you can have it.

If you don’t have voice com to co-ordinate you’re at a disadvantage, (something not natively included in the game btw).
If you lack enough dps, you’re screwed.
If you have to many protecting the turrets you’re screwed as the champions will overrun them taking them offline.
If you stay to long at the laser your screwed as the timer counts down and you fail.

I rarely did the old tek, as I found him (and the other dragons) to be about as challenging as brushing my teeth, but IMO you pust the lever far to far to the right on this one. OK you didn’t want us to hit the 1 key and go for dinner only to return and open chest, I get it. BUT even though we as players jumped through all the proper hoops we fail?1?. This is just poor design.

An idea just dawned on me that instead of relying upon us the players to man the canons, why not have the hylek NPC do it. We would still have to defend them and keep them alive, we would still need to clear mobs, fingers etc from them, but we wouldn’t have to rely on the player manning it to not be a troll. If we waste a full 15 minutes to get nothing it won’t b the fault of the afk guy on the cannon but due to our own inability to keep him alive. If a cannoneer goes down a PC could take over till he is rezed, but he woudl always take priority to be on it.

One Hit Kills on players

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Tommyknocker.6089

Tommyknocker.6089

Undead fish heads (at least that is what they look like). One hit down on anyone I have seen when it explodes. Dodging will reduce the damage by 100%, however it sucks rocks when they are partially hidden in the tall grass or spawn right beside you and go off. Middle ground is something that is a concept that is, I fear, lost on ANet. With the sheer amount of fish heads in that area it becomes a mine field for anyone just walking by. Even at a 75% damage per explosion would give fair warning (chance to heal) to players, but I guess with their new champ loot being offered they need to offset it with player repairs to balance it out.

while we’re at it, can racial skills particularly norn elites not be so useless? maybe nerf the bear and snow leopard rush skills but make them have a 30 sec cooldown so you can have them up 100% of the time since the skills are incredibly underwhelming anyway.

As a silvari necro, I would give my left ball for the rush ability of those forms.; just sayin. Having the rush being able to be used perpetually would just be icing on the cake.

Might just have to make me a norn necro now.

Better fast cast ground targeting:
We split this into 3 different options; so that players can more easily cater how ground targeting works for them.

  1. Double tap to cast
  2. Press the button to cast
  3. Release the button to cast
    SO GET YO CAST ON!

I would really like an option which is “Ground Target at Center of Current Target”. In other words an option to let me skip picking a place on the ground to drop the skill — instead it would put the skill reticule centered on my current target.

This would make my life so much easier as a grenade engineer.

I mentioned about 13 pages ago that having an option/slider on the size/visibility of the mouse being added would be a brilliant option. However if they could implement this idea alone the whole patch would, to me, be a welcome one!

+1 to you.

Edit: having the skill be unusable when out of range would be fine too.

While looking at the necro, if you are not going to ever allow the ability to regen or heal through, or bleed onto, our actual health, would you consider modifying the way regen/healing works when in DS? 100% of all healing is wasted on the necro while in DS, but why not allow heals to effect our DS pool, even if it were a minor say half of what the heal would be to your hp pool it would allow us to stay within DS longer when in groups or solo if under the effects of a regen. I admit it is high time we got a nice boost to our blood magic line, but if you are truly trying to make us THE attrition class we need the tools to stay in the battle. I realize that upping our condi damage may have been what you wanted for us, and it is a welcome change, but IMO it is the wrong direction to take the necro, especially those of us that want the ability to turtle.

Toughness and Vitality > We are the best

in Necromancer

Posted by: Tommyknocker.6089

Tommyknocker.6089

Well said Bweaty. Somewhere in all the "balancing’ ANet seems to lost it’s way with us. Some of us actually wanted to play the attrition class they said we should be, instead they gave us burning and more condi damage?!?. I picked up my warrior the other day and with the recent changes to signet of regen he becomes a MUCH more viable “vampire” than I can ever hope to be. The trait line should currently be retitled to mosquito, because that is the extent of life siphoning we have; not to mention we are about as annoying as one when we try to actually hurt/leech something with our siphoning.

My only hope is that after a bloody year of playing this game with the oct 15th patch my necro can more than just a condi dispenser. Everyone I talk to recently tells me that YES necros are a welcome class to have around, until they hear that I am not running a condi cookie cutter build.

No necro changes?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Tommyknocker.6089

Tommyknocker.6089

The OP Necro build is OP because of its unmanageable Condi spam for a few classes. There are a few classes that are frankly unable to handle us while retaining a viable build.

So, instead of nerfing necros conditions (its what we entirely rely on) they are instead going to give others the ability to counterplay our conditions with more removal. Its a great idea and I’m glad its the route they chose.

So much this! I play a power/ds build currently, but only because the build I wanted to play since launch was gutted; that being the life leech (true attrition) build. I am not overpowered due to the lack of condi, nor am I much of a threat in most 1 on 1 situation; in WvW I run in zergs only. However once this patch goes live I will start roaming and hopefully be able to become the class I wanted to be in the first place.

If they could actaully add a cleave to either dagger or axe (only reason I would use it for roaming), then that would be icing to the cake. Let us hope these changes actually make it a viable choice and not just more bull kitten, else I will stick with my less appealing (to me) power/ds build.

This, and if you look at those supposed notes, necros are getting a boost to all the vampiric abilities. If you read them (not saying they are real) you will find that they are going to split into both a healing (scaled) and a power (scaled) aspect for siphoning. To me this means that a true vampiric build may finally be viable! I already have a good set of celestial armor and woudl love to experiment with it, if true.

Champions need to be more powerful

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tommyknocker.6089

I know this is going to be an unpopular response, But IMO the champs are fine, it is the getting to them that needs work. If all you must to to get to a champ currently is find him and kill him he loses all of the reasons he became a champion in the first place. In D&D, something I played for years and years, you never got to slay, say the champ of the ogres by bypassing all the fodder (trash), skip past his lieutenants and wander past his chosen elite guards. If you want to make the champs truly memorable, again IMO, they need to be fought for past those that guard the champs or else they just become meaningless bags of loot. Giving a loot chest after the champ is down rewards all those that helped in the fight and not just those that got the big numbers in; also would reward the guys rezing as they too would be in the area when the chest spawns.

A not so living world

in Living World

Posted by: Tommyknocker.6089

Tommyknocker.6089

The day/night cycle would indeed be a pest, however with the extent of data anet gathers it could be handled IMO. For instance they could adjust the events to “fire” only when the server in question has the population to handle the events. The logic behind this could be the enemies have to sleep sometime too. Unlike in WvW where we the players run the show, in PvE it could be made to more suit the population that is in the current area/world.

Also as to the ressing npcs, it could be implemented as you progress into the map. As you free villages/npc’s their militia (a few npc fighters) would come with you to capture the next town and so forth. These npcs should rez the fallen similar to the veterans around the keeps in WvW. As waypoints are uncovered they should become uncontested etc etc.

I’m not saying that there are not many many things to consider with making a living world that would feel alive, but it would be nice if it were to feel less like trying to breath life into a corpse.

A not so living world

in Living World

Posted by: Tommyknocker.6089

Tommyknocker.6089

After playing this game for over a year I would like to give an example of what I believe a true living world should be.

First and foremost it NEEDS REAL consequences for failure. If you have centaurs taking over a town when you fail, why must they end there? If given long enough the centaurs can and should take the whole kitten map, enslaving and forcing the npc’s within the areas to be hostile to the PC’s (similar to a flipped keep in WvW). Waypoints, once the map is taken, should all be contested, making the trip to that map impossible save for entering through a nearby map. And why stop there, if the centaurs form an alliance with the dredge they could start controlling even more of the maps. If however they are at odds with the dredge we could form a temporary alliance with one side to defeat the other or at very least see then openly at war with one another.

Large scale invasions like scarlet should be epic in scope (destroying maps/npcs) until rebuilt/defended by the PCs for an extended length of time. Supply runs similar to what we see in Cursed Shore would be a good start, but much more widespread. IF these rebuild actions are not taken by the PCs then they should just lay there rotting (needing more supply runs in the process to repair) until they are done!

I guess my whole point to this post is that without real meaningful consequences we may as well be furniture. Devs please take a page from the way some things in WvW are handled; leaving WvW to the enemies will leave you having to ACTUALLY WORK to regain your ground, and IMO it should be the same in the PvE world. Until it is done in a way that we can and do get hooped for letting things fail, we are no better than bystanders in your game.

Exotics get sold only IF they are worth more than 1 gold on the TP otherwise I salvage them with a black lion kit for the dark matter and runes/sigils.

After I hit 100% MF I will still salvage the whites but the blues and greens will be posted to the TP for at least 2 times their vender value or highest bidder if higher; for 0 coins to forgo the posting fee. If these don’t sell within two weeks I will remove them and salvage them as I may as well get some benefit out of them. The rares and exo’s will be treated as they were previously.

Stop penalizing players on siege

Tommyknocker.6089

First problem. Spending 15 RL minutes on a treb pressing one button. I’d rather be homeless in the winter time than do something that mind numbing. At least being homeless you could feel something, like being cold. Pressing one button for 15 minutes gives one finger feeling and the rest of your body jack kitten. Lol god this game is just a haven for people who don’t like to think.

I agree with you to a certain extent; but this game was not designed for geniuses. From the other angle it has never taken any brain power to press 1 (once if auto attack is on) to “help” take down a gate and get the reward once at the lord in the zerg either. At least the guy on the treb has to aim it in the right direction, and this can be harder to do at long distances without a spotter.

Just saying why reward the smuck following mindlessly in a zerg, hitting the gate and taking the lord when you don’t reward the guy on the treb that saved the zerg a few minutes?

Until they make defending offer the same rewards as taking a keep the name of the game is flip wars 2. Using siege to take down walls etc. should offer the same reward as someone that gets a shot in of the lord IMO so as to promote more team play (teamwork). PPT means nothing to the average player that only cares for shinies and WxP.

If for instance every time you defend a tower/keep the timer offered some reward other than just the silver/karma that it does now you would see many more being interested in keeping their property. Same goes for camps, If you are in the ring when the camp is taken/defended you should get rewarded for taking/defending the supervisor.

Some of the events are bound to return in one way or another anyways as they have already been programmed in, and as such I’m sure ANet will revisit most of the areas in the future. Even the gauntlet could be revisited in a fractal or similar.

So I’m just doing what I find fun to do and leaving the AP grinding at the door. If they want to add tons of new content I’m fine with it so long as the content is high quality.

The damage can be quite good in PvE with deathly perception, however if you venture into wvw it is best to replace it with “foot in the grave” for the stability. Hammer warriors and other stun locking classes will just keep you out of the action and getting high numbers becomes almost impossible whilst being used as a pinball.

Also for added stability I use “near to death” giving me tons of stability; I may hit for less damage, but at least I stay in the fight. Axe/focus used primarily for the vuln/lf gain. Depending on gear (i would suggest celestial with zerger trinkets I become quite survivable and can still hit harder than most players expect a necro to.

And once they make the WvW achievements more attainable, you’ll move on to whining about the lack of especially ‘difficult’ and ‘prestigious’ WvW titles like this one.

Hmmm, well I can’t say that I would “whine” I am just stating an obvious failing of this portion of the GW2 world. However if they can add titles for such things as say, “respected achiever”, what is the problem with adding a respected yakslapper title?

As for the achievements, you could just make it so that instead of getting say 10 achievement points for 50000 kills you could get at least 50 for such a milestone! If it is possible to get this same amount for doing 16/16 easy achievement in PvE, I for one cannot see the harm in upping the rewards.

Although these titles might not be considered as “prestigious” if done in tiers I can see no harm in showing to others what you have achieved thus-far. The same goes for the “milestones” in our achievement points offering a title, even though 5000 ap’s isn’t much I see many many players touting that particular one.

Yep nothing to see here.

If you frequent WvW you should be accustomed to not having titles, achievement points, or anything meaningful added. However if you live in PvE you get bi-monthly updates with all the achievement points you can swallow, new maps/content, armor/weapons/mini’s, the list goes on.

It seems the motto of “play the way you like to play” only encompasses those that frequent PvE. But I’m sure I’ll get that title, or at least one of my siblings will; possibly my great great great grandson.
