Coming from someone with a Silvari, I recommend either human or asura. Human’s have the best alternative skills (heal and elite), asura are so small they get targeted less often in wvw.
I currently have about ~9 g. I usually have between 15-30g.
Have you considered a guild? Here is a post from someone else on Abaddon’s Mouth looking for a guild.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/guilds/Looking-for-casual-guild-6
Thanks for the tips.
I need to run TA if I’m going to get nightmare runes and I haven’t done it yet. I figure that will take a long time to get.
Recently I mostly geared and respeced into a glamour mesmer. There are still a couple of pieces that I’m missing.
The spec is basically Kylia’s (http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/mesmer/?4.5|6.1b.h5|b.1b.h1h.d.1b.hz|1b.719.1b.719.1h.719.1b.719.1b.719.1h.719|1b.62.1b.62.1b.62.1b.62.1n.64.1b.62|k58.0.0.k29.u589|30.e|33.38.39.35.0|e)
In WvW, I notice that I’m tagging enemies with confusion and they take damage, but rarely enough to count as a kill. After running with a zerg for 15 minutes or so, I only had two stacks of corruption on my staff.
My direct damage seems pitiful. I feel like I’m helping, but mainly because people in my fields stop attacking and flee for a few seconds.
Any tips about playing a mesmer with in a larger group?
(yes, I know I need to L2P, that’s why I’m asking.)
This is a great video someone showed me once about the difference between extrinsic and intrinsic rewards playing video games.
Author did a mistake there… In WoW your grinding not to just get the items but to get items powerful enough to overcome next challenge. What’s wrong with that?!
I think the point is that in an ideal world everything you do in a game should be fun in and of itself. The game should be played for the sheer joy of playing it.
No game is ever going to do this 100% of the time, if for no other reason than different people like different things. However, if you think about “am I enjoying doing this, right now” you will end up spending more time doing what you like and less times on things you don’t.
Regarding getting new gear, we get conditioned to chase things. Achieving a goal or milestone gives us a rush. However, the key question how much fun is the chase itself?
But if you take away the ability to set prices, how am I supposed to manipu… err… price my goods for what I want to sell them for? That’s so unfair mate.
Yeah, I can see that this would be difficult. It also has the problem of requiring Anet to purchase and hold the goods until someone wants to buy them. No more posting and item for sale and waiting for someone to buy it. So in that way it’s not really a market.
Let’s calm down a bit, this isn’t getting us far. Instead let me ask this.
Here are the assumptions that I’m operating under for this question:
1. You feel that PvE and TP have difference levels of gold earning
2. You feel that PvE and TP should have the same level of gold earningWhat would be your plan for implementing a reward system that would achieve what you desire, given the constraint that you may not get rid of the trading post?
Can we change the trading post?
Here’s my thoughts. There could be a single price for an item on the TP separated by some fixed amount (ummm… maybe 30% (foreshadowing)). The price of the item could be set by how many are available at any given time. If more people want to buy the item than sell it, the price goes up, if more people want to sell it than buy it the price goes down.
Exactly like the gems in the gem store.
I hate these topics. The last time there was a flood of topics like this we got ascended gear. Which, to me, is nothing more than a directive to spend a time doing stuff I don’t want to do in order to get back to where I was before ascended was introduced.
I think that everything that’’s not the story is intended to be end game. World completion, WvW, explorable dungeons, fractals, and flame and frost. If that’s not enough to hold your interest, maybe you’ve won the game. Congratulations, watch the credits and find another game.
Regarding races.
Most people go with human. If you want to do PVP I recommend an Asura. They are the smallest race and are most easily missed on the battlefield. By that I mean that are more difficult to see and target, the hitboxes and run speeds are the same for all races.
I don’t use the double tap at all. It makes you stutter. Personally, I bind dodging to the my mouse wheel. I push it to the right and I dodge.
Deleted my post and the topic became viewable again. Nevertheless, its a bug
Forum topics can become unreadable under some unknown set of conditions. See attached.
If you add another post, the whole thing becomes visible again.
I agree with almost everything you said. Regarding the economy, I think the problem is more the scarcity of resources than the amount of gold. You alluded to this in your post, but I want to be painfully clear.
Give people more gold chasing the same number of goods and the price will rise. The problems with the economy can only be solved by changing the drop rates.
Why don’t you ask for advices on how to improve?
Honestly gaming is not rocket science, and GW2 is not that challenging considering we now do solo Lupicus and can plow throw frac 40-50.
I mean you’re a human like the others here, unless you have some genetic impairments I’m pretty sure you can do just as well as others.I believe the main issue though is keybinds and how you play.
Having a gaming mouse with 5 buttons for instance allows you to take all the utilities, elite and heal off your left hand’s burden.
Then you use left hand only for skills and profession skills.
Move with mouse if melee, if ranged you need wasd but ranged is so much easier to play than melee in pve so it pays off.Casual games aren’t the ones who would spend money on a game controller, gaming mouse, gaming keyboard, gaming keypad. And equipment isn’t going to improve my jumping skills.
Regarding jumping, frequently the ledges you are jumping to are sloped. Try jumping to the lowest point. Often you can’t jump only the higher side.
In jumping puzzles, look to jump from the high side of your current platform to the low side of the platform you want to get to.
Regarding keybindings, it will take some time to get use to, but if you don’t have a gaming mouse this is a good setup.
http://taugrim.com/2012/06/27/guide-to-guild-wars-2-keybinds/
I am certainly not a great player. another tip is to let auto attack auto attack and not mash the 1 button. It buffers a little and can slow down your other skills.

LOL this is so sad and funny at the same time.
I’m glad ANet is trying to fix the problem, but like always, players freak out like nuclear winter is looming. I just wish there were some advantages to having alts to make up for the expense of gearing them out.
Sighhhh…
It’s not that a nuclear winter is looming. I’m just kittened off that they, once again, kitten people with alts. You could make it so you can only get 1 rare / day / character across all bosses. Instead, they changed it to 1 rare / day / boss across all characters.
I know, people with just one character are “special” and need to be catered too. I just wish there was a little compensation to help mitigate the expense of gearing an alt.
There is no “abusing it.” They set the rules and put the incentives in place and we respond accordingly.
If loot drops weren’t so generally miserable changes like this wouldn’t cause the problems they do.
Going from “you may get 1 rare drop every 2-3 weeks” to “you are guaranteed a rare from each boss chest 1 / day / character.” What did they think was going to happen?
I don’t understand why there can only be one source of good drops at a time?
For the record, I only did the boss events if I happened to be in the area when they kicked off.
Because shocking the market is apparently not really that big a deal (for example, https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Upcoming-mega-boss-chest-change/first#post1656442) can we get an update on the current thoughts on the precursor drop rate and price?
rangers should get… ermm. uhhhmmmm… ya know, it’s hard to pick just one thing to fix. O.o
How about a functional build?
It means that there is, once again, no good reason to have an alt.
That sucks, but unique items do say they are unique. Better luck next time.
Apparently, the use of the term “unique” in this context is known within the MMO community. However, as has been discussed, the term does not have the same meaning to people outside the MMO community (for example, this is my first MMO and I had no idea).
In my opinion, that makes the term jargon (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jargon). That is "the term covers the language used by people who work in a particular area or who have a common interest. Much like slang, it can develop as a kind of shorthand, to express ideas that are frequently discussed between members of a group, though it can also be developed deliberately using chosen terms. "
The problem is that it “causes a barrier to communication with those not familiar with the language of the field.”
And as such is bad, especially in a game that is trying to be accessible.
I think the developers don’t know what to do with Rangers. They can’t fix pets, because AI is always terrible compared to people.
At the same time, they are committed to the idea that a ranger should have a powerful animal companion that does most of the damage.
What made me stop playing my ranger months ago (he was my first 80 and now mostly sits around wearing rare coat and some masterwork boots — I really should get him some pants) was the realization that they would rather have the ranger be under-powered and broken than over-powered and broken.
No matter what, he’s going to be broken.
Didn’t need to I trolled him until he booted me, Lol. I just didn’t like how I got badmouth for not knowing how to do these exploits.
So let me get this straight. You refused to cooperate with the party leader because you thought a certain feature is bad; then proceeded to be a little kitten until getting your well-deserved kick?
I give you no points and may Kormir have mercy on your soul.
As opposed to the party leader who bullied the member into cheating? There is no high road here.
Until you know what they mean by “unique” the term does not convey any particular meaning on it’s own. In fact, they use unique in a non-standard way.
A unique items means one of a kind. These items are not unique. They are plentiful.
The rings are not unique in the world. Everyone can have one. They are not unique for an account, each character can have one. They are not even unique for a character, one character can obtain several (but only wear one at a time).
I’ve never seen anyone use the term “unique” to mean you can only wear one at a time — ever.
A better system you be to have each slot be unique. Have left handed rings and right handed rings. No one complains that they can’t wear two hats at once. That’s because the UI is intuitive.
The ascended stuff is not.
Stealth doesn’t last very long, 2-3 seconds in most cases. If people had an ability to ping and detect a character in stealth then stealth would be worthless.
I know this has been said often, but I really think that stealth will be much less of an issue once culling is removed.
I image that it was designed so that you could create a tank type character that would pull some of the aggro away from the DPS (hmm… sounds very trinity-ish), but it’s objectively ridiculous.
Also, toughness doesn’t mitigate nearly enough damage to make that viable when there are respawning mobs.
When I am choosing targets, I’ll always go after the guy who can hurt me the worst or the softest target instead of the guy that’s the “toughest” to kill.
I’ve noticed that in dungeons Zerker warriors have more survivability than Knight’s warriors because everyone in the dungeon goes after the knight warrior first.
Personally, I think it’s a design flaw. If you are going up against a guy with a machine gun in the open and another guy with a pistol in a locked shed, you don’t batter down the shed first.
I think you are suppose to be lost.
My problem is that , so far, it hasn’t been fun. I don’t like looking for some guys car keys in the snow. The enemies are exactly the same as the other ones in the world.
Meh.
If conditions become a problem, you may consider condition removal in stealth instead of stealing stealths you.
You’re going to want to be more flexible with your “build / gear” if you want to succeed doing dungeons. If not, dungeons are not for you.
This is totally false.
You will find a lot of kittens on Gw2LFG asking for zerker warriors and a mesmer. I have a zerker warrior and a mesmer, but I won’t run with those people. They are FAR too critical. Basically if it takes more than 5 minutes to run COF path 1 they are kitten off.
You don’t want to run with them either.
It takes a little longer but you can find posts from people who are reasonable. Just avoid anyone advertising speed runs, gold farming, or experience.
Alternatively, watch a video on YouTube and join anyway. Avoid the groups that demand gear pinging (yes, they actually do, it’s sad.)
Cof Path 1 isnt the only dungeon…
But yes, feel free to bring in whatever build/weapons/skills you want to a dungeon and hope that your 4 other teammates are more flexible, more experienced, skilled dungeon runners to carry you since coming in unprepared will definitely get you through.
True, but he asked how to get into dungeons. I assumed (probably incorrectly) he wanted to know how to get started. COF path 1 is by far the easiest and most accessible, at least in part because it is so often farmed.
Also, when someone is new they are going to be carried, at least a little bit.
Also, fair point that not every build is viable in a dungeon. But I don’t think you have to run full Zerker either.
Yeah i don’t recommend him running “full zerker, go mad dps” or whatever to learn. Im merely suggesting that he be open to making several adjustments to learn encounters better since experience and skill are the biggest deciding factor to doing dungeon. Gear/traits/utilities are cushions to dampen the mistakes from learning, Hence why I recommended being a little more open about having to make adjustments to his builds.
I misunderstood your original post. My bad.
Ok. I didn’t know we we’re playing that game. Sorry, I don’t play that game.
I have provided sufficient evidence that there was a fair amount of complaining, although a lot of my evidence was indirect. I find it insulting that you dismiss it so easily.
Let’s play a different game. I agree with Red Falcon, there was a lot of “no end game” complaining. So that’s two votes to one. Majority rules.
The funny thing is, if we could keep on topic, we all of us have similar feelings about ascended gear being not good.
(edited by TooBz.3065)
Selective memory?
I remember 2 forum pages filled with just “no endgame” complaints, I remember all IGN review sites filled with “no endgame” comments, “no endgame” videos on youtube, Guru filled with 100-page threads begging for more progression…
It was at least one month of this mayhem before we got Ascended and everything settled after one megathread of complaints, with the rare anti-Ascended thread here and there from then on.
GW2 would be pretty much dead if they didn’t pop Ascended tier to give the majority something to do.As much as I agree with you that stat progression is bad, the majority rules Anet’s decision not me and you.
They put Ascended after a great demand and threatening of mass quits, not because they woke up one day and Colin said “Make a tier again!”.Okay. Then please, find them.
I don’t doubt that you’re telling the truth, as I assume you have no reason to lie about this. But I don’t recall nearly this much activity regarding endgame. Not even close. But I’ll happily withdraw my argument if indeed you can prove it true.
And if the number of complaints (by actual players, mind) were so numerous, this shouldn’t take you very long to find lots of evidence of these complaints.
Generally, I agree with your position, but there was a lot of QQing over the lack of an end game. Here is evidence of the complaints
a movie saying all the complaints about no end game are off base:

That’s as far as I was willing to Google.
Assuming Ascended is ~8% stronger than exotics.
~272 total stat increase over full exotics with full ascended in all slots (weapon, armor, trinkets) and assuming each one is filled with a +5 stat infusion, spread over atleast 3 stats. primary stat gains a whole 90 stat points, both secondaries 61 stat points. Then +60 from having every single +5 infusion.
Less than 15 trait points worth of stats.
If you’re in partial ascended gear then the already small gap is even smaller. The enemy isn’t always decked out in ascended.
A few stat points do not decide fights in this game.
I believe they’re adding a way for WvW players to gain ascended soon.
Ascended is optional.
I’m sorry, I totally did not understand that. Can you please explain how did 272 stat points become 15? I can get 15 power from infusions alone?
Here is my reasoning
If I take a zerker warrior in exotics he has an effective power of 4162.38.
(http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/warrior/?8.0|1.1g.h2|0.0.0.0.0.0|1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7|1g.67.1g.67.1g.67.1g.67.1g.67.cg.67|k00.k00.0.0.u000|0.0|0.0.0.0.0|e)
If I switch him to ascended he has an effective power of 4444.24
(http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/warrior/?8.0|1.1g.h2|0.0.0.0.0.0|1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7|2s.0.2s.0.3s.0.2s.0.3s.0.2s.0|k00.k00.0.0.u000|0.0|0.0.0.0.0|e)
Or if you prefer power numbers. 2234 Power, 1895 precision, and 103% critical damage
becomes 2300, 1928, and 111% respectively. .
Using the formula damage = power*skill coefficient*weapon damage / armor
(assuming 1.0 skill, 1000 weapon damage, and 2600 armor in each case) (from the wiki)
The exotic warrior will do 860 points of damage per strike (base). 50.62% of the time he will crit for 2176 giving a average damage / strike of 1527
The ascended warrior will do 884 base damage. 52.19 % of the time he will crit for 2307. Giving an average damage/ strike of 1626.
So the ascended warrior will do 6.5% more damage per hit.

Blame the game for punishing players for doing the right thing.
And rewards have been always a long part of video gaming. This is why invisible 1 up blocks and coins existed in Super Mario Brothers. That is why later games had bonus zones that just gave you extra lives that you didn’t need. Because you could, and you deserve something other than having your face bashed in for playing this game.
Well regardless, I see tons of excited and happy people running to a chest and sharing their loot regardless of quality. I really don’t care for that changing if I can share that sort of moment with tons of people over some pixels.
I agree completely. People respond based on their incentives. In this case, the system is set up to reward players for reclaiming the camps and not for defending them.
I haven’t done that quest in a long time, but if you can wait 15 minutes and get a rare from a chest, versus doing it now and not getting anything, why wouldn’t you wait?
Why do you have to gear up multiple alts in ascended? Are exotics not enough? Unless you’re running high level fractals on them all.
I have multiple 80s as well (all decked out in exotics), but when exotics get the job done (the game was designed with exotics being BiS), I don’t feel the need to get better gear when it isn’t required.
You want innovative implementation, but say ascended should be able to be crafted and sold on the TP. How is that innovative?
Current Methods of obtaining Ascended:
FotM Ring drops/pristine relics
Guild Mission rewards
Laurels
Mystic Forge.Methods not in use:
RNG drops off Dungeon Bosses/World Bosses
Straight up buy them with gold
Crafting
Earnable through Special Achievements
Dungeon Token rewards
Dungeon Chests
JP chests
WvW Honor Badge rewards
RNG drop off of normal, vet, and champ mobsThey could add in all of these methods, but these have all been done in other MMOs, so they’re not new.
If my memory serves me correctly, A.net has said they will be adding more methods to obtain ascended gear. Perhaps you should wait for those updates.
My point still stands that Ascended is optional.
If you feel you HAVE to get ascended gear, that is your problem, not A.nets.
I want ascended gear (or BiS) on my toons because I like small group roaming in WvW and I also like variety.
When you roam with a small group of 3 – 4 people you are frequently evenly or overmatched. In this situation 5% damage increase can make the difference between victory and a wipe. I think this is true in any aspect of the game where the difference between victory and defeat is small.
Most of my friends are currently deciding between partially gearing their alts (and always being at a slight disadvantage) and completely gearing one toon and abandoning their alts.
Since the weren’t included in the February update, I don’t think they are going to be doing this anytime soon. Probably sometime in the fall after the hardcore have all gotten their ascended gear through other means.
I also don’t think it’s going to be a straight up mathematical conversion. For example, they already said that the infinitely repeated achievements won’t count (or won’t count past the first time.).
I would like to see 1 laurel per achievement in some cases. Do a jumping puzzle for the first time get a cookie … I mean laurel.
Stealth doesn’t last that long. I find that AOE pulls and knockbacks are fairly effective. Blocks can also work, because the thief can’t attack until stealth ends.
Here’s a way to look at it that may make the current prices make more sense.
Each item that you craft was a cost, that is, the cost of raw materials.
Each item that you craft has a value.
The problem is that you’re only looking at the value of the item in terms of its sale price. Really the value of the item is the sale price + the xp that you gain from crafting. (Yes, I know that you don’t gain XP once you max crafting in a discipline, but in the aggregate many people craft for XP and you need to look at it in the aggregate.)
For example, if the raw materials were free and you couldn’t sell the finished product people would skill craft (in order to get the experience). So many people are buying XP and recouping what they can from the market.
Another crafting benefit is the ability to obtain goods cheaper than any other way. For example, look at an Amethyst Silver Band. To buy it off the TP costs 1s67c, but it only costs 1s 57 copper to make from it’s component parts. You can’t make one and sell it for a profit (because of the TP fees), but you can obtain one with want for 10c less.
Finally, some items can sell for a profit. But you have to be careful. Berserker and Knight gear will generally sell. For example, you can buy the items for a Knight’s Pearl Carver, right now, make it and post it for sale and make 30 silver.
Dailies are easy to achieve tasks that a time gated in order to incentive user’s to log in every day.
That sounds like mafia wars to me.
they probably also partecipated guild missions
Not really. And even if he was ikittenerg guild, how will a level 20 player participate in a guild mission that sends him into Frostgorge Sound or Fireheart Rise ?
Edit: wth, since when is the three letters N A and Z censored and for what reason? XD
The question is WHY would a level 20 character be concern about Level 80 gear?
BTW I don’t agree with ARenanet stance on forcing players to join guilds to get gear, I wish the was another method to get rings, because I certainly WONT ever ever join a guild. Guilds change the way, I play games and I don’t want to be bound by anybody other than myself. And I wish I could craft them even if they require a lot of work or reasonable work.
For the 50th time, you are NOT forced to join guilds to get those items because you have the option to get those SAME items from the laurel vendor for laurels/ectos.
Sure, but there is certainly a STRONG incentive to do so. For each piece of ascended gear there is one way of getting it that is much more efficient than the alternative methods.
You have no evidence to suggest that it’s more efficient to do it via the guild route.
Even if that is the case, the fact stands that you have an alternate way to obtain these items which means you aren’t “forced to join guilds to obtain these gear”.
Which I acknowledge first by saying “sure.” I’m not in a large guild, so I can’t speak to how hard it is to complete the guild missions. I know (from the wiki) that you can earn 2 guild commendations / type / week → so up to 10 / week. But even if it’s 2 per week, you can get an earring in 42 days for 5 gold.
Running dailies it will take 45 days + 12g in ectos.
Unless you take years to do that there’s no chance that will happen.
Ah, but we are talking about years for casuals.
If you can’t even muster the 30-40 minutes on average daily to do your daily then this game is not for you. That’s the bottom line.
Yes, this game is not for casuals (the people that are a significant majority of players here, by the way). That’s what i have been saying from the very beginning. Thank you for agreeing.
There’s a difference between casual players and lazy players.
Lazy is not a good term to use here. Lazy means to be disinclined to activity or exertion. Just because someone doesn’t do dailies doesn’t make them lazy. Also it’s a pejorative that you are using because you don’t have an argument.
This is a game and not a job or a chore. Sitting on your kitten and playing a game rather than washing the car, cleaning the house, jogging, is really much more a sign of laziness than whether or not you want to do dailies. And that is something we all have in common.
they probably also partecipated guild missions

What I find is strange is that they haven’t backed off the nerfs. I heard a podcast where the developers stated that they nerfed spirit rangers to the point that no one uses them. But I haven’t noticed a significant effort to walk back and make that build viable again.
Seriously I’m going to have to stop here before I get myself infracted or something… not to mention I still have to do my dailies if I want that laurel and coin.
You just made me laugh out loud. Excellent.
Anyway, I see daily’s like getting my chores done before I can go play. I often do not enjoy them. I do it to get my laurel. I do enjoy the rest of the game (esp. WvW).
I don’t get it. Why not do the daily as you play? For example, if you WvW, you should passively get that one achievement. It easily stacks up upon many others as well.
I can and sometimes do. Although usually I don’t know how much time I have to play so I rush through them. However, the point is that the OP cannot. And as such another system, such as bigger monthlies with greater rewards would be better and still provide the same time gate.

I can also realize that daily’s are a form of manipulation. So I think that if there is a way to get the good aspects of daily’s (such as time gating to slow the inevitable gear grind) while limiting the downsides (some people feel left out.) the player community should be behind it.
For the record, ArenaNet has done a great job with the new daily system. They are much less onerous than they were previously.
If unread mail capacity is going to be a problem with this token idea, then double tough luck. Why should anet jump through all these hoops writing all new ridiculous code for a few people with strange hours, just so they can feel like they’re being treated fairly?
To keep them a customers.
Daily’s serve two purposes. First is to time gate access to ascended items. That is, to make sure that it takes a certain amount of time to obtain them. Second, they train us to log in everyday. Push the button and get your seed pellet.
The former has some merit. But no gamer should be defending the later.
To go a step further. Any solution that satisfies the time gating requirement while lessening the “YOU MUST LOG IN EVERY DAY AND DO RANDOM STUFF” part, if a better solution than what we have now.

It seems that two things happened at the same time. Loot from Dragon chests got better and guesting started.
Those two things didn’t happen at the same time. One happened a month before the other. Since they just recently fixed the exploit around guesting and getting multiple chests, I would wait a few days for people to get resettled and then we’ll see what the problem is without guesting contributing. (Why would people guest if they don’t get any added benefit?)
Sorry, my mistake. I forgot about that because, prior to the recent fix, there was really no reason to do the dragons (except to do them.) The fact remains that we know there’s a problem, but we don’t know what’s causing the problem.
