Also, crafting provides value to the crafter greater just the value of what you produce.
price for crafted good + value placed of experience from crafting – cost of raw materials = value for crafting.
Therefore, the price for crafted good can be the same as the cost of raw materials and crafting will still have value, and people will still do it.
The only way to make these people happy in their minds is to give them a precursor when they want it for very little effort. That’s the world we live in now. Instant gratification with no work.
That sums up the majority of the discontent of the current situation.
I think most people are willing to work for a precursor, the question is how hard? It’s all a question of investment (either time or risk) vs reward.
I think that people’s issue with the Karka event was there there was a very substantial possibility to get a precursor ( allegedly) but no one was told about it before hand. So when the game started lagging, or things were difficult to find, people said “forget it this isn’t fun” and quit. If they had known that a precursors would drop with such a high rate then more people would have put up with, or tried to put up with, the laggy content.
I lost interest in Flame and Frost when they sent me to find small items in the snow. It was too boring and not the way I want to spend my free time.
I know that this post suggests that bad / boring content is okay if the reward is high enough. It’s not. Playing a game should rarely be a drag or a chore. But it you are going to make me do something unpleasant you should at least reward me for it.
7 months of PvE updates, the PvE players said nothing.
The moment Anet releases PvP updates, the PvE players say PvP is being prioritized.
It’s funny, because I always felt like the updates were prioritizing PvP content/balancing over PvE. I play PvE exclusively, perhaps the grass is always greener on the other side.
A agree, balance is definitely done with an eye to PvP. But content and gear comes to PvE. For example, there still isn’t a way to get ascended gear in WvW (except laurels and that’s really just overflow from PvE), but there are three ways to get it in PvE.
They can’t increase the condition cap because it costs them too much bandwidth, which is really expensive. This was said by a dev.
Second, if nerfing zerker gear, aka nerfing warriors is kitten considering how this class is one of the weakest classes in WvW.
tl’dr this thread is basically non-warriors crying that warriors shouldn’t do that much damage even tho that’s what they’re built around.
Actually, I think this thread is a result of the failure of ArenaNet to provide a LFG tool.
Because the only LFG tool is mapshout or a third party website. People can post requirements like “LF1M —-——- WARRIOR == LINK FULL ZERK GEAR EXOTIC+ RUBY ORB== P1 FARMING PRO ONLY = )”
Which leaves everyone else out . This leads to questions as to why Zerker warriors are preferred. Which leads to people thinking about how to make them less preferred.
If there were a LFG tool in game that didn’t allow for messages like this, groups would be formed and no one would be kittening. But that genie has left the bottle.
I use two builds, a more offensive one http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/thief/?7.0|c.1g.hd.8.1g.h14|8.1g.h2.8.1g.h2|1c.a7.1c.a7.1c.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7|2s.0.2s.0.1g.67.1g.67.1g.67.2s.0|a3.u3ab.u45b.0.0|1b.2|59.5b.5c.5h.0|e
and here is a more defensive one

I think a game gets broken when they try to balance incompatible modes at the same time. For example, Warriors are OP in PVE content but only so-so in WvW and not at all good in PvP. So what do you do?
Glamour mesmers are great in WvW but not very good in PvE where the attack rate is too slow.
Fortunately, ANet said they are starting to balance separately for each mode.
Assuming there was no shift in the demand for precursors, price went up because either 1. the price hasn’t reached equilibrium yet or 2. the supply dropped.
I think the assumption that there was no shift in demand might be a big one. I have no evidence, but it seems like demand would climb over time as players start to complete other goals and accumulate materials to craft a legendary.
Sure. The third option is that more people want them and the supply stays the same, therefore the price rises.
The problem is that most people are level 80. Salvaging just about anything gives X + silk or thick leather. Consequently there is a lot of it to go around.
When dust was cheap some of the silk would be transformed into Gossamer.
I don’ hate it. But I don’t love it the way some people do.
Assuming there was no shift in the demand for precursors, price went up because either 1. the price hasn’t reached equilibrium yet or 2. the supply dropped.
Oh great, another subtle way to kill a thread; send it t the suggestion forum, that way the community wont see it. Gj, once again, losing my faith in the forums.
I agree, I feel like the very quickly send interesting threads to die here while maintaining NERF QQing on the main page.
Why aren’t those suggestions?
For heavy armor, you will either need a Guardian or a Warrior.
A warrior is a heavy DPS class and is very effective in PvE, but is less effective in PvP content.
A guardian is more support / boon oriented. Does decent DPS (but not like a warrior) and is generally unkillable in PvE and useful in PvP.
Personally, I recommend a Guardian.
Race is mostly cosmetic; however, I personally would avoid Norn and Charr’s as they are very large and make jumping puzzles more difficult.
Edit: I forgot, Guardians have very little ranged ability. So if you like Rifles / Longbows it must be a warrior.

2 Sylvari, 2 Norn, 2 Human, 1 Asura
To the extent that you need gear at all, you only need it for WvW and high level fractals. However, I agree. This is my first MMO, unfortunately, I spend a lot of time getting 6 level 80’s. Time that would have been better spent kitting out one character and just hoarding gold.
I am now trying to decide between my thief (3 ascended pieces), my mesmer (0 ascended pieces), and my guardian (1 ascended piece)
However, instead of deleting them, the remaining characters are going to camp an ori node.
For the OP. We were getting off track talking about whether drop rates have declined or not, it’s irrelevant to the post.
So we should increase drop rates because he isn’t making money, and a few other people want to make more money? Okay, that sounds logical, I’ll email Arenanet right away.
Personally, I don’t care one way or the other. My only point (again) was that whether the drop rate has increased, decreased, or stay the same is irrelevant to whether the drop rates are optimal.
For the OP. We were getting off track talking about whether drop rates have declined or not, it’s irrelevant to the post.
Also, economically, increasing the drop rate would drive prices down so people would make less money, but they would need less money.
I was taking the post to say that the OP has had some terribad thieves in dungeons who are running a high crit rate backstab builds. He would like some suggestions on things he could recommend to help these guys improve (for example, get some toughness). His suggestions may or may not be accepted, but if the thieves are really doing that poorly, they may be receptive to suggestions, no one likes to spend the dungeon in the down state.
I doubt he would comment if you were playing an pwning the entire dungeon and I hope he would not require a gear ping.
Rytlock’s Critter Rampage Game!
I spend a lot of time on the forums reading people suggestions for IN-GAME suggestions, most of which arenanet don’t bother to post a reply to… even if it’s just a simple “Sorry that won’t work because…” = Topic Closed
or “Good Idea, we will discuss it and keep you posted on any further news on this idea” = Topic Closed. So anyway my point is simple, why are arenanet spending time making things like Rytlock’s Critter Rampage Game INCLUDING promotional video’s when there are so many unhappy players who are crying out for updates and new content.
For those of you who don’t know Rytlock’s Critter Rampage Game is not part of the GW2 client and can only be played from the GW2 website as a flash game.
So anyway I’m personally pretty miffed that Arenanet are wasting time making stupid flash games rather than answering our forum posts and acting on our suggestions and giving us more of what we want instead of crap we never asked for nor do we need nor does it contribute to anything inside GW2…
developers and staff are not allowed to post on idea threads for legal reasons.
That’s ridiculous and if true then it’s ridiculous to even an idea section. Why would we make suggestions for improving the game if we weren’t hoping the developers would consider the idea.
If your talking IP rights / etc., the EULA that you agree to when buying the game / joining the forums should cover that.
Whether drops are the same as they have always been or not. The OP’s point is the same. Consider increasing the drop rate, currently, it makes the game less fun.
Also sometime I’m running at full speed with Shadow Refuge at it’s full range in order to stealth a party member who is downed before they bleed out / get dps’ed to death.
I understand that the Signet of Shadows is not necessary in instances, except that suddenly moving slower throws me off.
What do you recommend instead?
Just to add more fuel to your tirade, sometimes I swap it out for blinding powder.
I use this build. It works fairly well. If I need range I swap out the D/D for a bow. The build is mainly about S/D and stunlocking enemies with daze.
I haven’t seen the outmanned buff in a couple of weeks, but it use to be fairly common in the borderlands.
Dynamic events, gathering resources, and exploration in an appropriate zone is the way I usually do it.
From level 1-15 I found Queensdale and Metrica Province has a lot of dynamic events.
From 16-30 Kessex Hills is the best.
From 30-45 Hirathi Hinterlands.
I usually craft from 45-60 so I don’t have a good answer.
From 60-70, do map completion on Fireheart Rise, Mount Maelstrom. (This will give the player 4 exotics which can be sold or used)
From 70-80, I usually try to get to the cursed shore to do dynamic events there.
I have leveled a mesmer and ranger to level 80 (also a warrior, guardian, elementalist, and thief).
Personally I prefer the mesmer over the ranger. I don’t actually play the ranger very much at all.
I prefer the mesmer because
1. they have a lot of utility
2. they have a variety of builds to try out, you aren’t locked into a single build
3. They have a lot of combat oriented mobility (note: they have very little non-combat mobility).
4. They work well with both a zerg and small group roaming (although maybe with different specs).
5. Every group is happy to have a mesmer (which valid or not cannot be said for the ranger).
I find that completing a map usually takes around an hour to an hour and a half.
(edited by TooBz.3065)
I carry around a fair number of different items for different situations. For example, I have a clerics staff and a knights staff for my Guardian.
I would like to apply different skins to each for easy identification. Is there any site / resource where I can see what the skins will look like in inventory.
I know the peacemaker greatsword skin is just a generic greatsword.
Same think it is every patch, Pinky. NERF.
(I know it’s NARF)
Mirror images, blink, and feedback.
Time warp is my elite.
“I can haz azended!?”
Seriously though, wouldn’t that be like a pay to win situation? I doubt they’ll do that.
People would say it’s pay to win (and it probably is); however, the same people who will complain that it’s ptw are the same ones who argue that ascended gear isn’t needed and can be ignored.
Regarding the issue of balance. I don’t think that the classes are balanced for the lower level PVE content. Instead, the classes are balanced for play at the level 80 and sPvP level.
I think it would be much more difficult to balance across PvP, WvW, PvE and for lower, mid, and high level play.
Consequently, some classes are much more difficult to play at lower levels than others. The thief, mesmer, and elementalist all have numerous threads about their difficulty at these low levels. However, these three classes are among the most formidable at level 80.
In contrast, warriors are easy to level, but are considered among the worst PvP classes.
For kitten sake, he means – I have observed that guild wars 2 seems to be losing active players and here’s why I think this is happening, if in fact it is.
I hate semantic arguments when you know perfectly well what he means.
I understand your frustration of semantics, and I hate when people create sensationalist arguments with no evidence and state it as fact.
As for semantics, it may be frustrating, but it’s also very important. Using correct language is the only way to properly convey your message. If you mis-use words, your recipient is bound to misunderstand you.
Lol. Fair enough. But I think that on the forums one shouldn’t have to preface everything with “I think.” I have frequently seen anecdotal evidence dismissed because it’s not statistically significant when, in fact, it’s not possible for us to get the statistics.
With the exception of a couple of trolls, I think everyone here likes the game, or likes a vision of the game that they have constructed in their heads, and everyone wants the game to get “better.”
What that means may vary.
I think the combination of per-account / per-character stuff is very alt-unfriendly.
Per character items:
Dyes, Soulbound items, WvW progression, Fractal levels
Per account items
Time-gating: Monster chests, Laurels,

Just tossing this out for consideration: instead of gear progression how about skin progression?
Rare skins that don’t have any higher stats but have u.nique *e.ffects and looks.
Hey Anet could even hold a monthly contest for people to submit fully fleshed out skin ideas.Honestly it was the stories behind the “gear progression”, not to mention being forced “rent” the game that I already paid for, that prompted me to avoid WoW, and other similar games, like the plague
But I could see hunting for new, difficult to find skins as a viable middle ground.
No one gets over powered but you still get something for your effort.P.S.
Fix the blasted language filter!
Unique and effect are not curse words!

I’m all for this kind of progression. I spend a fair amount of time / gold crafting firebringer and a corrupted shard.
I disagree, you don’t need “progression” to make an experience fun and engaging. Chess, checkers, Gin Rummy, Bridge, Euchre, Poker, Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, and a host of other activities do not have “progression” as we’ve been discussing it.
But people play those all the time.
Who plays those all the time? The sports sure, but I think the last time I saw someone play checkers or rummy was 1984. Let’s be realistic here :P
Well my parents play bridge every week. I played Euchre though college. My kids play Basketball, Baseball, and soccer. You have a point about the others.
But the point is that there are things people do just for the fun of doing them. While there is progression in competitive play, most people aren’t in that league. Instead, pick up basket ball is played for fun (for example).
GW2 has been my first MMO and it’s been a learning experience. In the future (if I play another) I will only roll1 toon. That may make gear progression more palatable. As it is now I have 7 toons and I like them all (well not the Ranger). However, gearing them all out is ridiculous, therefore, I don’t want the progression.

While I’m think about it, d/d and p/d are great weapon setups for leveling a thief. (Condition damage spec.) If you do it, you should know that you only need one off hand dagger, leave the slot empty on the other set, and the existing dagger will carry over when you swap.
Leveling a thief is much easier if you focus on condition damage.
When I leveled my thief, I found it was actually fairly easy once you get a good sense for how to fight in PvE. (Of course, this was before stealthing didn’t drop agro).
I would run into the fight, drop caltrops, death blossom a couple of times and let the bleeds kill everything. That worked all the way up to 80.
That said, leveling different classes is definitely easier or harder depending on class, Warriors, Guardians, and Rangers facetank everything. Thieves work best with conditions. Mesmers are a disaster until level 40. Ele’s are quishy and have to kite like crazy.
I haven’t leveled any others so I don’t know.
I am, admittedly, a bit surprised. I never realized that gear progression could be viewed so negatively. I see how you are looking at it – but hopefully you can respect another point of view.
We think of gear progression as a good thing. I guess the difference then comes down to a capitalistic vs communistic game design philosophy. Said differently some want a game that reward their players with better possessions and items based on their achievements, hard work, dedication and comittment.
The same game, I guess, can be seen as elitist, requiring it players to work in order to get something that people feel should be communal and given to all freely.
And I don’t see GW2 at lvl 80 as a sandbox.. Once a player has exotic gear, map completion and a legendary what is there to do? Honestly, we can’t figure it out.
You say you have an honest question and then turn around and immediately flame anyone who doesn’t agree with you with loaded labels. Communistic, freely given to all … please.
If you want to have an honest discussion, then let’s keep labels out of it. If you don’t … well, talking to a troll is pointless (you see what I did? I applied a label that invalidated your comments without actually saying anything about your points.)
I don’t think anyone has a problem with the gear up to exotics. The gear is easy to obtain, doesn’t rely on time gating or RNG. You can try out new builds without investing a lot of time. And there is little penalty for making a mistake or (gasp) changing your mind.
Some people have a lot of issues with Ascended gear (all of this is opinion).
1. It’s tedious to obtain. (not hard, tedious)
2. You get locked into one build for one toon.
3. It gives an advantage in WvWvW.
4. The stats on ascended gear favor crit builds over other builds.
5. It’s pointless, as many people have pointed out all PvE content can be done without it (except high level fractals, and then only for agony.)
The only reason that I can see for gear progression is so that you can noobstomp players in WvW without actually having the skill to do it without the gear advantage.

Different prefixes have different attribute bonuses.
Berserker’s armor is Power, Precision, and Critical Damage, which is purely offensive.
Knights armor is Toughness, Power, and Precision, which is more balanced.
You can buy any of the armor from WvW for badges and some money (I think 1 gold per piece).
You can buy Soldier’s gear (Power Vitality Toughness) for just badges.
You chest piece from Balthazar should be Power Vitality and Toughness (same as Soldiers).
You can also craft the gear using Tailoring and it can be obtained from dungeons.
Crafting – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Exalted_armor
Dungeons are listed here – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_armor_sets
For example, Citadel of Flame allows you to exchange dungeon tokens for Beserker armor.
I apologize if you already know then but if you don’t you should check out the wiki on different armor stats before you buy anything more.
The stats you select dictate your effectiveness more than anything else (except maybe traits)
Edit: I just checked, it’s badges plus slightly less than 1 gold per peice.
(edited by TooBz.3065)
Wahoo for the asura guardian, excellent choice.
FA is currently T2 in WvW, the score is always very tight and probably a lot of people are absorbed by it.
Beginning zones and mid zones are often pretty empty. You may want to check out Queensdale (just use PVP to get to Lion’s Arch and take the gate to Divinity’s Reach.) There’s a major event that spawns there, so many people hang out.
Frustration can run high in a dungeon. Especially in COF where everyone is constantly screaming for zerker warriors and gear pings.
Next time, I recommend saying something like “this doesn’t seems to be working, does anyone have a recommendation?”
I find confusion to be a one trick pony. It is excellent in a zerg, but I find it generally useless otherwise.
In a zerg it either shuts down the opposition so that they can not retaliate, or they take damage for doing so.
However, everywhere else, I apply confusion, the other guy waits for 5 seconds and then kicks my kitten.
Hey all,
I’ve been running the Healway build for a while now, but I’m starting to question its effectiveness in Tier 7 combat and zerg fights (ie, I realize I tend to stay alive, but I don’t know if I’m making much of an impact in the ZvZ fights that seem to be crucial in this Tier)
I’ve also noticed the majority of the Guardians I play with running PVT/AH based setups. Before I spend more of my laurels on more ascended Cleric’s gear, I want to know:
What build alternatives should I consider for Tier 7 WvW?Link to my current setup: http://tinyurl.com/c7qrqol
Cheers!
I’ve been swapping between two builds, trying to decide which I prefer.

If you are happy with your build I would start by swapping out some of the Zerker gear for soldiers or knights, until you are happy with your survivability
I would do it in this order (assuming you don’t want to change your weapons)
1. Legs & Head
2. Chest
3. Sword / Focus
These will give you the most survivability in exchange for each point of crit damage you give up. See this link: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/80673-min-maxing-with-critical-damage/
I would go for a shatter build first. Look at osicat’s shatter build.
The shatter builds are good general utility builds. If you want to do some PvE, it’s a good setup. The only thing that I think it’s not optimal for is WvW with a zerg (but it’s good in WvW generally)
It’s described here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-WvWvW-Pve-Shatter-Cat/page/19#post1822666
Your armor is not great for a shatter build. But you can reuse the chest piece.
For Shatter cat, I would get Berzerker’s shoulders, gloves, and boots. Keep the armageddon chest piece. For the legs and shoulders, I don’t know. Legs are the worst for critical damage, so I would get knights for the legs and mask, but others may disagree.
However, your armor is good for a confusion / glamour spec. It uses a lot of rabid armor, so you’re half way there. (Balthazar has three rabid pieces, out of four available from temples.) Kylia has a good build. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/external?l=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DN736Yg57RcQ

Personally, I always avoid any group that asks for a particular class or a particular build. Even when I was running a full zerker mesmer and could easily do speed runs.
Those guys are way to uptight.
The problem is that they are balancing three different things at the same time. PvE, PvP, and WvW.
Warriors do really well against enemies that stand there and take the full 100 blades hit without moving / dodging etc. (that is any of the current PvE enemies)
In WvW and PvP that never happens. People use stun breaks, dodges, etc. And the warrior never hits. If you look at that community, warriors are actually pretty weak.
I think the problem is that the enemy AI in PvE is sooo bad, that facerolling is a viable strategy.
Edit: its not only viable, it’s optimal.
(edited by TooBz.3065)
There’s no reason to nerf cof. Just buff some of the other dungeons so they’re some incentive to run them.
Absolutely. If you make everything un-fun no one will play the game anymore.
