If there is any comparison value in the bank placement of these items, then they should have the equivalent value to a Lodestone. That’s clearly not the case currently.

Did endgame just get nerfed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tumult.2578

As I understand it, a big part of endgame is making a Legendary (or even more than one). As we just observed, the June 25th patch showed us how the development team can take a Legendary weapon like the Dreamer (shortbow) and make it obsolete for PvE and possibly WvW. This can also be done to any other Legendary item, including armor. (other threads show players trying to trade them in for a different Legendary).

If you are unfamiliar with the components needed to make a Legendary and the cost and sheer luck involved, please check it out before responding. It can be a massive undertaking.
It doesn’t matter what race or class of player we are, and it doesn’t matter whether we PvE, PvP, or WvW or any combination thereof, every Legendary is now susceptible to loosing it’s value, at the whim of a development team that balances across the three play areas without concern for how it affects play in each individual play area.

As a player at the endgame, I’m struggling with a reason to continue. Sure, helping others can be fun, protecting your server can be fun…… but personal advancement has ended with the threat of Legendaries being nerfed out of existence. Take a look at the cost of that “Dreamer”, and it’s precursor, which has lost two thirds of it’s value on the marketplace.
Why would we even begin an attempt to make a Legendary now?

Please discuss

New ranger meta?
Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Below average archers, Rangers are capable of bringing down weaker foes from mid range with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of uncontrollable pets eager to wander off into AoE minefields, rangers can adapt to a few very specific situations, until those situations can be found and nerfed.

Perfectly stated!

The Pet damage nerf was necessary.

Trying to be positive but I don’t really expect there will be any rangers left by July.
Even if we could find some odd combination of skills that would make the class viable, don’t most people take up ranger to have pets that actually work? Even without pets, our weapons got nerfed too. Personally, I no longer trust the powers that be, to not destroy whatever I work towards.

The system should never delay our input to accomplish it’s stacked and delayed game input. It makes people want to come back after the game is ready for release.

the +5% Movement Speed from 6 Runes of the Traveler or Runes of Speed
Increases the total speed, when used with

At a total of 30% this combination would be within the 33% cap and it’s close enough to free us from the Warhorn.

Yup, checked several zones. All the chests are gone. They did say it was a test and it was causing problems with movement and firing. I wont miss it, but then as a norn I never though jumping puzzles were constructed with everyone having the same chance of success.

Is there any reason these npc’s that regularly or constantly ask to speak with us, but have no actual game activity for us to do, need to be next to crafting areas? Is this intended to make crafting more difficult? It doesn’t. It just makes the crafter less happy with the game. Usually, by the time we back out of crafting to see what the npc wants, it’s moved out of range to a different part of the crafting area and cant be seen. Go back to crafting and it’s back real soon. Can these npc’s be moved?

Mearlainn AT the Grove crafting area is an example but there are plenty others.

Thanks for the changes to the Daily and Monthly Acheivements. I’m really enjoying the fact that I can pick what I like to do in the Daily and hope to see some of it in the Monthly. These changes provide positive encouragement and motivation to try all the different aspects of the game instead of requiring us to play those other parts in the middle of trying to acheive something unrelated to those other parts of the game.
We are not being “ushered” or led by a nose ring, we are now being encouraged to try those other game parts based on their own value.
I’d like to see the daily expanded to a second and/or third more difficult level of daily acheivements with reduced reward for players who play more than casually.
Thanks again. Good job!

I am often seeing this pet attack the spot where it’s target was, when it was first targeted. Our target is now in melee with me and my pet is attacking an empty space.

The F2 skill of this pet has a long animation. When coupled with this targeting issue, the pet often starts it’s F2 skill animation after it’s target is dead. The animation completes, in the wrong place, unless I attack something else. Then it stops instantly and moves towards my new target.

This pet is somewhat harder to locate and aquire and it has good stats and skills in the right circumstances so I understand the animation delay. With the target issue this pet’s value is considerately reduced. Can this issue be resolved?

That’s why I said “legendary”. You do realize you said yourself that a significant number of players have raised this issue. Do you really believe that it wont make players leave? Do you want to play a game with a decreasing population shortening the lifespan of the game. Ask yourself why a player should be forced to do 4 PvE maps when they hate it and it doesn’t have to be that way?
I’m done with the topic. I made an effort. I just hope I’m not back saying “told you so”.

The first comment refers to there being enough rewards for people to only play the “open world” and not WvW….

The game USHERS you into WvW… when it doesn’t have to.

Achievements must have requirements but they dont have to force us into WvW…

Never said anything about hard but the harder the better, as long as it doesn’t force us into WvW…

Your last statement is why I wrote this. I dont want to see people leave because of forced WvW… when it doesn’t have to force us. Of course if the game owners believe that the only way they will make money is to force everyone to try and make a legendary, then the forcing wont change. I’d just like to see the game last.

I’m struggling with some of the basic game requirements. When I read “Colin Johanson on Guild Wars 2 in the months ahead”, I see serious effort made to improve PvE, PvP and WvW. When I see;
“Open world online games are always strongest when players are encouraged and rewarded to interact as a community, to support other each other” and “Our shared loot system, dynamic level adjustment system, shared resource nodes, multi-player skill combos, and the ability for every player to revive one another are all examples of key game features that help support this concept of a community-driven experience.” , I have to agree that it’s a big reason why the game is so successful. I like PvE and am glad that PvP and WvW are available for those who enjoy it.

What I am struggling with is this;
“To make playing in our open world worthwhile, we’ll make it rewarding enough for players to spend their time there across all levels. It’s extremely important that we stay true to our philosophy that you should be able to play Guild Wars 2 the way you want to play the game in order to reach the most powerful rewards.”
And how it is diametrically opposed to this statement;
“and when the flow of the game ushers players to go places where they run into other players across all levels and have shared experiences.”

Let me explain. If the flow of the game means forced PvP or forced WvW or forced Dungeons or forced PvE, or forced anything, then it is NOT “ the way you want to play, it’s the way you want us to play. That is designed failure.
Wait, you say it’s not forced? Isn’t a dungeon forced on us if we try to complete our personal story? Isn’t WvW forced on us if we want to complete the world map or create a legendary weapon? Isn’t WvW forced on us if we want to complete a Monthly Achievement? Do I need to go on…

This forcing, continues to drive people away when it could be changed to an incentive based motivation to experience the other types of gameplay. Couldn’t the first dungeon completed grant a significant award that is useful in all aspects of the game? Wouldn’t players learn about dungeons that way? Couldn’t a Monthly Achievement be completed in the open world once a player has tried WvW and found it’s not “the way you want to play?” Why can’t completing the open world map be enough?
There must be many ways this could be done to EVERYONE’S enjoyment. Personally, as it is, I will never complete the world map or my “so called” Personal Story or even a single Monthly Achievement as long as the game forces other content on me, even if those things could ultimately become my most favorite part of the game.

I see great hope in this part of the statement. “Identifying existing parts of the game that can be improved and made more fun/exciting, and investing the time to ensure everything we’ve built really shines as we move forward.”

World Map Completion/WvW

I’m actually quite stunned at the lack of understanding from the PvP people commenting on this issue. Personally I dislike PvP because I have no need or desire to prove myself better than others. I like having established goals that “I” can achieve on my own. The more difficult, the better. I’m fine with groups doing meta events. Groups can be lots of fun. That doesn’t mean I object to PvP. If that’s your thing, I’m glad it’s in the game.
What doesn’t seem to be getting through though is this is forced PvP. After Treherns Personal Story fiasco it’s pretty clear the advertising for this game could have been clearer. Many people will never complete the world map just like Treherns personal story. That’s fine. If your going to try to force PvP though, remember… It would be a rather simple thing to organize people from PvE to join in the fun of mass suicides in WvW, effectively destroying the WvW game. This is everyones game. Why not treat it that way.

You can’t envision a massive battle with a large contingent of Pact npc’s helping you struggle to the point where you can finally reach and trigger the giant crossbow that pierces the dragons armor fatally?, or the plunger that Pact forces hooked up to the device that triggers an explosion that destroys the entire island and the dragon with it, or… do I need to go on? WE DONT WANT TO HAVE TO GROUP TO DO THIS!!!!!

It’s not that grouping is bad or anything, I was in groups daily. We simply believe we shouldn’t have to group to do this and wont group to do this. To me (and apparantly many others) it would be like cheating to get help from anyone in a Personal Story. And, we are angry at being misled.

That’s all excellent advice Crossplay. I did try a heavy damage setup and a strong defense setup. The problem is every enemy that joins combat seeks only me and ignores the npc’s with me. The npc’s do no noticable damage and dont agro or delay any of the enemies so they are pointless. Even with pets and animals that I can bring to the fight to attack, or delay, a new enemy spawns before I can get even one down to half health and there are 5 Risen. There’s no time for the many delay tactics that can succeed long term. I think I simply drew one of the toughest endgames and I welcome that. But I would never attempt completing this with a group until I have done it solo. I’d consider it cheating personally and success would be pointless to me. Perhaps there was just some damage issue caused by the many recent updates coupled with the one player entry into the dungeon.

Why can’t we be notified at the start so we can make an informed decision on whether we want to take part in this? How could notification be seen as a spoiler in this case? Would you rather recieve this info, or be decieved till the very end? I for one would never have started it if I had known. He asks about doing the storyline solo and complains that he cant solo it. He comments that no other MMO he’s played requires or forces grouping for a personal story. He shows the philosophy supposedly used to create the game and how different it ended up. And yes, he comments about finding groups difficult, and your comment regarding finding groups was very constructive. He NEVER mentions the dungeon. I simply found your justification for forced grouping," BECAUSE it’s in a dungeon", unreasonable. No offense intended. I certainly could have chosen a better way to start my last response. I overlooked how wildly different story lines can be. As a level 80 (months ago) Norn Ranger with all exotics, and buffs I can find, I have been unable to kill even one opponent, in the final story part, with the help of 4 npc’s, despite at least a dozen tries. The 4 npc’s do no damage to the opponents. Clearly, others have had much easier times of it. It was wrong to use the word" lying" like I did. My apologies. For me, this is still forced grouping. I wont play a game that strips away any sense of personal accomplishment by forced grouping. Seems to me A.net stands to lose alot of money over this.

I agree entirely with the OP. There is no Personal Achievement in Forced Grouping. The Personal Storyline endgame should be very, very difficult, but never in a dungeon that requires grouping. I enjoy fighting in groups but that’s not what a PERSONAL storyline is about. I feel cheated and see little reason to continue playing. This ruined the whole game for me.

I really thought this was a cool game. I learned otherwise today. The personal story line cannot be completed without being in a group. Seriously? I wouldn’t recommend this game to anyone now. If ANYONE thinks this this should be a requirement, they should never try to design a game. And, if anyone says they solo’d this, they are lying.
Everyone should stop doing the storyline RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
