The immobilize and the vulnerability by itself, is enough in PvE. What possible use can a forced backwards roll have in PvE? (or even a directional dodge?) What are we supposed to be afraid of there? I just don’t get it. It just makes location pointless and potentially dangerous.
A rifle is a ranged weapon. Why retreat? If anything we could use a fast closer to go with the immobilize instead.

Because pve isn’t all there is to this game?

Didn’t try to imply that. The skill is fine in PvP.
But PvP isn’t all there is either.

So you change the whole concept of “play your way” as the game was touted and began, and then expect players to stay after gating nearly everything behind specific game modes and long times and big numbers and constantly nerfing builds further reducing diversity?

It just doesn’t make sense even if a few players say they want harder content. That’s what the other games have and where those players should have gone, probably went.

Nice spin Vayne! Trying to compare players leaving because content was too easy with players leaving because it was too hard is nothing more than spin because nobody can supply accurate numbers.

It should be obvious that many of these resources are being deleted because those tools that were created to resolve the issue, force you to play in a specific game mode.

Remove that restriction will allow players to make each tool and actually want more of those resources. Having the resources available in each game mode but then gating the tools behind specific game modes is the problem.

For example, if you dont play PvP you wont be getting Mawdry and will be deleting thousands of bloodstone dust a month.

It cant be that hard to make the tools available where the resources are available.

Yes, the gliding is more fun than I thought it would be.
Great changes on the Shatterer, but where’s the loot? Isn’t the difficulty of this somewhat in the ballpark with Tequatl, which has a chance at ascended loot versus 2 rares from the Shatterer?

One thing that was accomplished with the balance pass is now there are a whole lot more of us that are convinced balance across PvP, WvW and PvE is NOT POSSIBLE!

You can accept the unbalance and circumvent as much of the intended action as you’d like. Personally, I will continue to point out the absurdity of trying to balance across the board.
I played Mesmer for awhile and changed because it was so unbalanced.
Actually the ele staff 4 attuned to fire is exactly what I suggested. An evade that does something more for us. Not a forced evade in order to immobilize.
The intent of the design is to force you to evade.
A half second roll back isn’t that bad in the core game but in Hot, a lot of those evades are going to be over a cliff, out of a tree, basically a loss of position that likely took awhile to attain.

You may think I need to learn to play.
I think you need to learn what to play because warrior is now more out of balance and more warriors will drop the power rifle and go to condi bow, again reducing build diversity.

Not going to hijack the thread so lets simple say that in PvE, a mode with very minimal reason to retreat, the immob is fine but the forced evade is both pointless and absurd.

We should never have to perform an action in order to use a skill, like jumping to evade the evade does. If they want to give us an evade (not needed in PvE) it should be the skill and also have additional benefits for us.
When I get done laughing at the warriors doing the Golem without stability, constantly rolling up and down the steps, I think it’s pretty sad.

I believe Brutal Shot (not sure that sounds right for an evade) actually fits well in PvP.
Unfortunately, it is now the perfect example of why balance shouldn’t be done across the board.

Please clarify whether your writing about PvP or PvE becaused there is a vast difference in the effect of the change to rifle’s Brutal Shot in the two modes.
The skill actually has a use in PvP and makes the weapon basically useless in PvE.

Rifle balance will never occur. Get used to that. It would require balancing the weapon separately in PvP and PvE.
For that to happen, they would have to give up the esports pipe dream and they wont even when all the players are gone.
The last change made the weapon slightly better in PvP but made it absolutely worthless in PvE.
They’ve made their first strictly PvP weapon.

Well, you can make the rifle a one handed weapon in PvE now. The last two skills are basically worthless. I know you like to think only with your PvP mind but in PvE you often look for a good place before you start attacking with a rifle. No point now.
You cant stay in a tree, on a dock, a rock, or pathway or anyplace with helpful structure and do significant damage. Rifle butt? May as well leave that spot empty.
The weapon buffing was required but you crippled it with totally unneeded movement in PvE.

Warrior changes in Jan/15 balance preview

Tumult.2578

That’s not all the changes
Rifle changes IIRC:

  • kill shot pierces
  • aimed shot (#2) does 5 vuln (8 seconds?)
  • volley pierces
  • brutal shot does 1s(?) immobilize and 400 distance retreat
  • crack shot gives 1 adrenaline per hit, no piercing, still recharge reduction
There were speargun changes, like some skills there pierce

400 distance retreat ? Like a jump backwards ?

Yup. Hard to see though, it was a fast animation.

Thanks, that’s a good add then, always wanted something like that on rifle.

Does the immobilize start before the roll back?
Will there be time to reorient, aim and hit before the immobilize ends?

I suspect I’m going to really miss that 5 second cripple at 1200 range which saved me many times. Nice to have more damage and add vulnerability but how does that help when I’m dead?

"Taken" names

Tumult.2578

It’s not a serious issue to me, beyond debating the possibility of change.
While some may appreciate how easy it is to make names, others don’t appreciate the break from lore or immersion that requires, and others simply want simple names.
I locked down some names early in the game and it is still possible to come up with a 6 or even 5 letter name but it isn’t easy.
I just think it is naive to think that if an MMO can last 10 or even 15 years, then the name policy still wont change or that something will not happen if you stay away for years.

I guess what I am struggling with is that claim that they will never take names away.
I never heard it or saw it, and certainly not any actual promise beyond current policy.

Taking a closer look at Gaile Grey’s post, on the first page of this thread, she talks about across the board name wipes, not exactly what this thread is discussing now and she also states that she hasn’t heard any internal talk about changing that.
Doesn’t that clearly imply that it could change?

I understand the statements of support for the current policy but I don’t believe they outweigh the statements of support for change.

Read it all and my opinion hasn’t changed. I started with 2 years but that’s certainly flexible.
Just out of curiosity, what does everyone think happens to stuff you have in a guild vault after that much time, let alone whether your still a member, or anyone is still a guild member?
At some point, it’s not coming back, it’s starting over. Whatever that point is, is where the names should be freed. I’d imagine Anet could get a pretty good idea of when that point is.

And once again that point should be never. If I want to quit for 3 years and come back I should still have my name. You should have started day one like the rest of us.

Actually started on day 3. What does that have to do with this topic?
If you started on day one then your likely playing multiple characters and have seen how difficult it is to have a name anywhere near what you’d want/like.

This is not the same game we started with. It’s free to play now and a lot more names are needed. I feel entitled too, playing from the start, but I probably should change that because new players have just as much right to the game, and a name, as we do.
You may think a 2 year break is fine. Don’t be surprised if the whole game is gone in 2 years.
I offered my opinion, so did you. Let’s respect them both.

Mine is not an opinion, its a statement of fact. And no, this game is not free to play. The “free to play” model is an open trial.

More importantly, assuming they are free to play then no actually they don’t have as much right to the game as me.

Provide a copy of the company’s written statement that they will never change the current naming policy.
Make up your mind whether the game is free to play or not. lol
Better yet, understand that just because your saying it, doesn’t make it so.

Sure the game is free to play but Anet has both implicitly and explicitly indicated that people who purchase the game have more, “rights,” than those who play for free.

Exactly. I believe this thread is asking "Do “more rights” include keeping the character name(s) in a game you haven’t played for years?" It’s asking if the policy should change.
Discussion can provide positive feedback either way if we view the discussion that way.

Why do we have a Block List tab?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The intention of the block list is to eliminate some of the problems caused by players.
Sell gold = blocked.
Scream constant obscenities in map chat = blocked.
Give a large group of people intentionally wrong info = blocked.
Use harpy pheromones during an event = blocked.
Mesmer port players away from a chest = blocked.
Grief players = Friended, watched, avoided.

It doesn’t have to be used inappropriately.

As a player with an asura character I’d certainly appreciate anything that makes other characters thinner. Those black and white wings might make a lot of money in the gem shop but they block an awful lot of view. The Temporal blades and the Karka backpacks at least have gaps in them. Folding wings behind the body would be helpful.

[Suggestion] Focus on Solo-play Experience

The LFG tool is simply a tool, without requirements or instructions.
Many player have taxies running far beyond the end of any event they were advertising. Experience this a few times and the tool becomes worthless in the players mind.
I’m starting to suspect it is being used to prevent new maps from being created sometimes.

Can they make content for say a group of 5 or 10 but make it scale down immediately if there is only one player attacking? If they can, how would this hurt larger groups?

Any interest in daily character tracking?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tumult.2578

Tumult.2578

Something that would track events like world bosses, once a day chests, who did what during this day since reset.

If you have multiple characters and/or if you have multiple accounts, it’s easy to confuse which character did what since the reset last night.
If you’ve ever fought Tequatl and gone to collect the reward only to realize you already did it last nite on that character, you understand how this could be helpful.

Fun doesn’t enter the discussion when it’s a requirement and for many it is. They
don’t expect to finish the imbiber or sweet tooth achieves and those who don’t enjoy pvp may bypass snowball mayhem which leaves the JP.

You may have been much more successful in stating the differences if you had included the effects of HoT on the core game, which was devastating on a lot of players, and the effect of guild halls, which IN MY OPINION has caused a lot of players to leave.
I believe the true picture will surface soon. Either the hard core players will continue to stick with the HoT content for a long time, and continue to fund the gem shop long term, or not. The question to me becomes “Will the casual players stick around and fund the cash shop, until we see how quickly the hard core players tire of HoT content and move on.”
No news on new “Free to play” players buying HoT, is not encouraging though.
