Leather Farm

I consider the leather farm as successful at encouraging free players to buy the game and Hot. If they didn’t just leave.
I also consider it successful in the same way for paid accounts without Hot. If they didn’t just leave.
It has been successful at distracting posters and readers from the lost AB multi-map.
If they didn’t just leave.
And, it is successful at providing another method of farming leather for players who already had additional ways in Hot.

Jumping into this multiloot several times and seeing how it progressed, I was impressed by the players ability to shape and reshape it to better fit their goals. This is the only place where I have seen this happen anywhere in the game. Sure, guilds and parties can work well together to accomplish great tasks but this was players exploiting the game in numerous and ingenious ways. Anet didn’t call it an exploit, they called it exploity, meaning there were likely even more ways players had not yet come across.

Sure there should not have been the ability to begin with, but many games have the sense to create open area’s where the players can create some of the game themselves and then the game takes full advantage of the players creation when it proves enjoyable content.

I see these as not a lot different. No economy crashed. Everyone was able to make their own choice to take part or not. So, I too to bid a fond farewell to the creativity that was the AB Multiloot.

Leather Farm

The whole point of the leather farm is to ensure players always have a reliable way to focus on acquiring leather without turning to the trading post. Not to make people rich by selling it, not to reduce trading post prices. I don’t get why people keep bringing up how expensive leather still is or how it is cost ineffective to promote t5 to t6.

I remember my very first exotic berserker armor I crafted near launch. Farmed minotaurs at Arundon Waypoint area and converted the t5 blood to t6. Salvaged my own ecto and mined my own orichalcum aswell. Didn’t have a trading post. The cost of the materials were irrelevant.

This would make sense except that it doesn’t ensure players have a reliable way to farm leather without turning to the trading post, for free players, or for paid accounts without HoT.
Simply changing the crafting formulas would not put any additional pressure on players to buy HoT, which is the actual point.

Totally agree on the armor. We got a stronger sense of accomplishment back then from doing it ourselves. Considering the addition of patches and the changed recipes, I’m glad I made what I could back then.

It doesn’t matter if it’s the Cruise Queen or an old punt. If it uses the same skills as the Predator it will get little use in PvE. Lets not forget that this leather farm , in all it’s glory, is the thing that replaced the now barren wasteland that is Auric Basin. At least it has in many players minds. Personally, I’m thrilled that we are all accepting this farm in place of the AB Multiloot. So, we should be thankful for 4 or 5 T6 leathers instead of 40 rares. Or at least those with Hot who have access to it should be.

Baring in mind that your way of playing this game doesn’t have to be anyone else’s way of course. Right or wrong, exploit or not, it’s a pointless argument now.
My concern is that the map dies now and the effects that will have on Hot.
I can’t see players returning to content that used to generate 40 rares and now generates 5 rares.
Anet must have recognized what this will do to their Hot metrics. That is likely why they left it as long as they did, and are only now going to try an replace it with the leather farm in Hot.
Can you imaging the cries of pay to win on these forums when only Hot owners can afford to make armor?

Curious why more people don't PvP or WvW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tumult.2578

We players come from all ages and backgrounds. Having spent my R/L career fighting for safety, fairness and workers rights in the workplace, my opinion of people in general and what motivates many of us has suffered considerably over time so I simply place more value and receive more satisfaction from my own achievements. That is not likely to happen in WvW.
After a career of fighting people, I find PvP to be just more of the same. Little balance or fairness or justice possible, coupled with what I consider pointless requirements to force us into those modes makes it extremely unlikely that I will take part. I guess I always considered WvW and maybe PvP as end game content, but I’m there and it still hasn’t happened. It’s actually the requirement to play a specific game mode for a specific reward that is keeping me out. I think that if the requirements were dropped , I’d be there, or give it a serious try..
The other side of it is that as we get older we generally have the financial ability to do more exploring, but the world is rapidly becoming a much more dangerous place, (points at the election) and here, in this big beautiful game world we can do a lot of exploring and if we die, we get back up.
I have had numerous retirees ask me if I still play online games and how can I still stand more fighting with people. When I explain cooperative PvE to them and how enjoyable it is to explore this world safely, many try the game and are still playing.
I’m glad those other game modes are here. Maybe one day I will be motivated to rejoin them. I hope this gives you a broader perspective for the question asked.

Essence of Luck

Tumult.2578

I’m still struggling with how a game can have Essence of Luck and Diminishing Returns (DR) at the same time. They both individually make sense but together, how do they work? Will Luck push you past DR or does DR stop Lucks effect, when and how?

They are both independent of each other.
Luck only serves to improve Magic Find, up to a certain point, and the amount of luck obtained from salvaging is not in any way affected by DR.

But, assuming you actually meant MF when you said “luck”, the answer is still very similar. The both systems sort of interact with each other, but they are independent.

MF improves basic drop chances (well, to be more precise, improves chances of getting better quality of the items dropped). The DR reduces quality of loot and drop chances, and seem to be so strong eventually, that any bonuses from MF might as well be nonexistent.

That makes sense. Yes, MF and DR would have to effect each other, and MF is the accurate term.

Pve content - Veteran map instances?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tumult.2578

So what is it you want? A more difficult fight or a different reward? I see no problem with PvE veteran instances as long as the reward is set to half the normal reward. You get the reward of harder content, others get the reward of better drops.

All in all, I’d prefer trait, skill and weapons balance as a way for players to understand the impact of added skill. Then players might learn to play better, bearing in mind that some players will never leave PvE, and many are looking for the easiest way.

What made this game great

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tumult.2578

Tumult.2578

What made this game great was the large amount of brand new content in three different game modes, coupled with constant rapid story updates mixed with new festivals, all provided at an eventually unsustainable rate. We had so much stuff to try in beautiful settings that there was something for everyone and most of it worked correctly or was fixed or adjusted.

When there is simply more content than a player can do and be done, players tend to find the content they enjoy and spend most or all of their game time doing that content, whether it be one thing or many. The game however has moved away from “play what you like” to “play it all or be denied”.

I personally believe that this is a big part of what a lot of players are struggling with. It’s not hard to motivate players to try new content. Once they have though, it’s natural to judge what things we like best. Now, it’s much harder to motivate those players to go back and spend the time they can spend on the game doing their second favorite content or least favorite content, or wherever it falls in their “list”.

I don’t expect constant rapid new content. It’s not sustainable. I’d much rather see time spent fixing one thing and adding new smaller content to each Festival as it comes along. Fix one dungeon and gauge the result. Back off on a few of the issues that require moving to a different game mode and see if it increases or reduces movement. I’d also suggest trying to find ways to make content much more difficult to zerg through so that it lasts long enough for players to find others to play it with. Finally, I believe there are a lot of smart players here and a small section of the game that allowed players to actually create a very small map with their own restricted content, that others could try and rate, could generate idea’s that vastly prolong the game and generate considerable income.

What Legendaries SHOULD have

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tumult.2578

Considering the MUCH larger materials list for Legendaries, the requirements to enter other game modes, the bar of looting a precursor, and the reduced chance of getting a precursor you actually want to make into a Legendary, I feel legendary weapons should markedly stand out from Ascended and they just don’t seem to very much.

I’m not sure I can agree with any of the suggestions here but what is the point of having achieved one of the major goals in the game when we can usually replace it with an ascended weapon in much of the content without losing any affect at all?

Since your asking for a simple opinion, mine is that Colin was going for fun and Mike is going for difficulty. Both have their advantages but I suspect Fun would make more money for the game. If it’s not difficult, players leave. Too difficult, they leave. Seems unfair in the requirements placed on us, they leave. Feel pushed into content they don’t enjoy, they leave. When players have a little fun, or a lot of fun, they stay, and they pay.

I don’t think they will ever go for a way to reduce map exploration and I agree with that. Still having earned stacks of TOKs is truly earning a pointless reward. There should be more uses for ToKs, like maybe get another character for a stack, or earn more bank storage, which is what they are basically used for now.

Once we reach level 80, it’s pretty clear we are not supposed to enjoy core Tyria any more. Much effort is made to force us into other areas of the game, whether we enjoy them or not. We are even penalized if we don’t. No more experience for you! No more AP’s for you! No scribe for you! No more Legendaries for you!…….
The question you asked is rapidly becoming a “yes” for me.

I do have a second paid non-HoT account with 3 level 80s, which gives me experience, and although It doesn’t have anything compared to my main account, I’ve come to the realization that I enjoy playing it much more.

No, everyone was warned. All sections of the patch notes are available to everyone it’s not like the warning came in a mail to only people in WvW. If you skip parts of patch notes, that’s on you.

Think whatever you’d like. They were MASSIVE patch notes with a Legendary section but the information was not included there. When WvW comes out of beta, is not saying when it will occur, it’s just “some future date”. When it would occur was NOT in any patch notes.

I agree that the tasks should be repeated. It sounds like you agree that when the task is completed, we should get the reward. Many of us completed enough tasks in WvW to buy multiple GoBs, before they became available in other ways. They were earned. Many/most players did not fill up their inventory with them because they are not used to make a Legendary weapon that often, and didn’t stack. The vendor to access the GoBs was there for years. Then it was gone.

These threads will likely reappear often because it’s simple to go back and see that the players were not notified when the change was going to happen and the only reference to it was not in a legendary section, only in the WvW section of previous patch notes.

Still, go ahead and let players know it wont change, even if it’s exactly the type of “issue” they have fixed in the past. I think your right and that they won’t change it, but then I also think forcing players into the game mode wont help you or me or the game mode. There is more than one issue here and pointing to a single Dev response will not end the discussion.

Core Tyria could be harder if you simply remove a few pieces of armor when you fight
and leave it the way it is for the large group of players that like it as it is.

You flew into how to change it and blew right past if it should be changed. There are plenty of other harder games to play, for free. Core Tyria stands as the single best example of successfully designed cooperative PvE in a non sandbox mmorg, in the industry. Why would they mess with it after evaluating HoT’s results?

PvP wants better players. So does WvW and Raids and Fractals and Dungeons, but I believe the area specific skills needed should be learned in those specific areas.
How many players have exactly the same opinion of how the game should be changed? Isn’t the game better off if we keep something for everyone?

[Discussion] Your Main Issues With The Game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tumult.2578

Tumult.2578

Biggest Issues with GW2:

1. The change in direction of the game since launch. GW2 started as a casual-friendly game with “play as you want”, no increasing gear progression, and avoiding grind as main goals of the developers. Starting with Dry Top they have made the game increasingly twitch-dependent, increasingly difficult, and increasingly grindy. They have also completely erased “play as you want” by locking character progression behind game modes (WvW, PvP, Raids) and even STUPID MINIGAMES THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE STORY.

2. The new focus on “E-Sports”

3. Armor Skirts

You nailed it with number 1.

Gotta agree with 2.
Think I would change 3 to lack of ANY meaningful communications.

Dear anet, why have rifle ingame?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tumult.2578

Tumult.2578

Agree, rifles sucks. Damage is inferior to melee weapons and considering it’s single target (aside from 3rd skill on warrior) only it’s even worse. It certainly can’t compete with ranger LB for example, probably not even with dragonhunter LB.

Of course damage is inferior to melee weapons… the trade off for some damage is you’re attacking from range.

Also, the burst pierces, the primal burst explodes, and the purpose of the rifle isn’t solely doing tons of damage… you also get interrupts, fast adrenaline gain, and a free evade. Take the time to learn how to use it.

~EW

Or you can take your time to learn how to melee, so you don’t have to use inferior weapons. See, how that works? All I was saying is that it’s inferior weapon and there is little point in using it. I wanted to try warr with rifle, just for fun, but it’s not fun at all. Considering it’s single target weapon for the most part, it could have a bit more damage. It could be on par with ranger LB at least, which is a good weapon and actually has traits tying to it, unlike warr rifle with only one trait (for cooldown). I don’t remember about engineer’s rifle and traits, but rifle itself is also not appealing at all.
Just because I don’t like the weapons doesn’t mean I don’t know how to use it.
OP probably wishes he could use rifle as main weapon (as do I), but unfortunately it’s a pretty bad weaon to have for your first choice, no amtter how hard you’re trying to say otherwise. It’s only usefull for when you really have to go range, which is not often.

You run forward and attack your opponent who dies 10 seconds later.
I shoot a similar opponent while running forward so the opponent is at 70% health and suffering applied conditions and then melee kill the opponent 8 seconds later.
Who is using inferior weapons?
Nothing is perfect for every opponent in every circumstance and sometimes enemies spawn around us so range isn’t needed but I personally think that giving up a ranged weapon would slow my overall progress.

The Rifle just doesn’t stand out anywhere. It’s fun to use when you know how not to use it. I tend to think of it as an offhand meat tenderizing weapon.

The Rifle should pierce. Every shot should pierce, even if the overall damage had to be reduced. There’s little reason to remain at range. As it stands now, the Long Bow is simply a better choice for Warrior due to it’s enhanced Condi meat tenderizing effect.

If it’s for another Engineer utility belt, does it matter what weapon it is?
