Suggestion: Mounts [Merged]

When it took me almost 3 hours to run across just one map in Star Wars Galaxies,
and then we got mounts, I thought it was great. Then came bikes and speeders, then space ships and travel between planets, then fighters and yachts, and eventually I could travel from the ground in my single man ship up thru the sky, dock, leave, and head right back down, doing strafing runs, and you know what?

Each time the Galaxy got smaller and smaller. The fights, the battles, the significant achievements of the past shrunk to insignificance as I zipped past overhead. The game lasted 8 years. That’s a lot to zip over.

If I thought the developers would stop at one speed upgrade, I’d go for it but it seems like the kind of thing that would quickly take up residence in the gem shop and get faster with each dollar.

I understand your enthusiasm and applaud your efforts despite the opposition. I thought it would be a good thing too. Now, I think I am against even having a glider in the core world.

Not sure if this is helpful but for me the JP was undoable for a long time.
I’m using a Logitech G700s mouse, which works fine for me in the game.
This JP requires much more perfectly times turns and I don’t know what it was but I could see I was failing because of an exceptionally short lag period in which I hit the space bar but didn’t jump. Switching to a different mouse without a reticle setup made a big difference.

I got 37 bottles of rum from Princess before finally looting a magic cork.
Getting that Cork seemed fitting, especially being a "Magic’ cork, but,
since I cant actually drink that rum, I’ll offer that magic cork to you for
protection, if you think it would help…

Seriously, I agree the numbers are simply absurd for a Festival Event.
The real problem is some people actually completed the other core game 100k drink achievement. Sometimes having the money to complete something, doesn’t necessarily mean you should.

GW2 Community Anger

Tumult.2578

I’ve been around the sun a few dozen times. I can give some insight as to why it is this happens. AKA, the harsh and terrible truth as to why devs won’t talk to you. Not a direct “you”, but the “you” in the general sense, so don’t take it personally.

#1: You blow things out of proportion. A change doesn’t actually have to be big before people will moan endlessly about it. This is the internet, and people are always making a big drama about something, and just because you’ve gone on to the forums and found a dozen people who agree with you doesn’t mean it is an issue even worth mentioning. You’ll get over it, and if you don’t get over it, bye. We don’t want you here.

#2: You can’t be placated. If you’ve ever tried to reason with a tantruming child, you’d find it is impossible. And of course, being an online videogame, the majority of complaints come from just that. The playerbase is young, full of hormones, and also full of life’s little frustrations over how unpopular in school they all are. You aren’t looking for a solution, you just want to be angered by something. The reason why the devs won’t subject themselves to your every beck and call is because it would only fan the flames. Calm down, kid!

#3: Your complaints are irrational. Yes, just because you’re mad about something doesn’t mean that it makes sense, or is practical in any sense. The fact is that the devs can’t make the sky blue and not blue at the same time. and yet people will be angry at others for not doing their crazy bidding Whether you’re factually wrong, the solution you propose is worse than the problem, or you’re upset over something that can’t be understood by the rational mind, what you want isn’t correct.. There’s nothing to gain from talking to someone who is insane, because sanity is a per-requisite of meaningful communication.

#4: Your complaints are illegitimate. There’s a lot of vitriol leveled at the devs not because what they’ve done is necessary bad, but because something is bad for you. Even if other players want things differently, you are there with your own uncompromising desires, dead set on trying to make the world yours instead of better. Sometimes you have an ulterior motive, sometimes you’re just trolling, other times you just don’t care what other people think. Either way, your “feedback” is flailing wildly in a crowded room: it goes nowhere and just makes people more upset.

#5: Your complaints are a minority. Angered players speak out, content players don’t. While it seems like everyone agrees with you, in fact it is an echo chamber where the same 10 people just yell at their own shadows for days on end. Ultimately, to change any complaint you have it takes resources, and if there are a handful of cantankerous players irate over something, it doesn’t mean it is worth dealing with. The quality of updates and changes is subjective, so if you find yourself constantly out-voted on the matter, accept the horrible fate that your life will be filled with nothing going your way.

#6: The devs already speak with you, but you aren’t satisfied with the exact manner or how much. It is a goalpost that can be constantly moved, so to the belligerent mind can never be sated. Yes, the emotional black holes out there are all aflutter when something isn’t said fast enough, or where they want it to be said, or whether enough is said or not. No matter how much of a dialogue is trying to be casually opened, the fact is that you will always be looking to punch a gift horse in the mouth..

In short: You aren’t worth talking to. Now, I’m going to add this on to the end:

#7: The devs are people, too. Fact is, the devs don’t know what the hell they’re doing. Most people don’t. Most things in life are gambles. They’re going to make mistakes, and they’ll feel bad about their mistakes, or they won’t realize that something is a mistake. Thing is, you’re the worst person to tell them their mistakes. For the 6 reasons above, but also because you’ve assigned a air of mysticism around their work, and thus see anything that doesn’t suit you as the actions of a defiant spirit of some kind. The whole “fester with rage in their public spaces for weeks on end” is not a good look. It is not always going to be immediate that a problem even exists.

Congratulations! What a complaint! Way to attack everyone! This has to be a record.
It perfectly displays posters lack of understanding, including yours.

Just some perspective for the masses that cant do this JP.

I’ve looked at you tube videos, checked out all the threads and websites that offer assistance or tips on the JP, in detail.

After about 100 tries, (no I didn’t count) I made it about to half way once, based on what I’ve seen of the entire JP on videos.

At 17/18 (and 34 of 38 JP’s) but that’s not going to change, despite all the fanboi’s claims of how simple it is. Funny how I can have multiple sets of ascended armor, a legendary (near 2) world map completion on 3 toons, completed stories, on and on, yet they block progress with a JP after an expansion that uses mushrooms to jump.

To me, this issue here is not a simple shoulder skin or even the 10k drinks. I think this is the first time a jumping puzzle has been a requirement for a reward tied to a Festival Event.
I like that there is real effort or gold required. The JP is just a killer for me though.
Why couldn’t it be like Sanctum Sprint in reverse, a race down on sleds, or Gliding down from the top mast of the top ship in the Bazaar, or a jumping mushroom maze inside a small room of the Super Adventure box . Things that would give your new and core game players a taste of HoT and Festivals and just be simply fun.

There are enough gates and difficulty in the chain of required activities for a skin like this in a Festival Event. Please don’t add JP’s to them too.

It is the THRILL of sending money in the cash shop that we are supposed to be enjoying.

Do content for reward? Get serious. How can you not see that? It’s perfectly clear to many of us. The rewards are for spending/converting, not for content. Cant even get into some of the content.

Why don’t you try taking a hard look at the Wiki and search awhile.
There is simply so much to do, try, love, hate, get frustrated over, feel the thrill of a well fought fight or campaign, on and on.
Personally, when I check the Wiki I always find more stuff to do. I don’t or simply cant do everything but there’s so much I don’t have to.
While taking part in guild activities, I still think of myself as a solo player and while the game is designed less and less for me (which I hate) , I still have to decide which of the many things I’ll do next that I enjoy.

This year it easily could. If you apply some of the posted numbers here to a 6 week event then the numbers lose all their drama and it’s easier to reach the goal.

Tumult.2578

That makes a world of sense. Thanks for the help and motivation. I do have trouble getting motivated to commit the extended time needed to get such lackluster rewards. There isn’t even mats of significance proportion to hold interest between fights. Running through mobs is not my favourite activity but zerg , run, or die (likely without a rez). That is a big concern.
Dying in HoT is not like yelling in map chat “I’m a bad player. Don’t rez me!” But it’s starting to feel more that way.
I’m still completing maps and enjoy much of it. There are lots of nice and helpful players. It’s just that the design kind of allows players to feel justified in treating other players as inferior, or enemies, even though Hot is basically PvE.
I look at that mastery number by a players name and see only accomplishment but I suspect more players are looking at it as a gauge of ability, and I’d rather have it removed than become a gauge.

Why make something as generic as jumping puzzles so difficult that a significant part of the player base can’t EVER do on their own? The others were enjoyable. These are frustrating.

The non rezzing behaviour may have been in WvW and PvP but not in PvE and the content we’re talking about here is PvE. The system has simply given people an excuse to not rez.
Expect it to become prevalent throughout the game now, followed by rewards based on damage done and that baloney.

Players pressed into a smaller space would increase rezzing not reduce it and we are not pressed at all. Many maps are basically empty.

I really wish that these forums weren’t filled with such ungrateful, complainy people

We paid for the game I owe no gratitude.

True, you don’t. You also aren’t required to even acknowledge the many positives of both the main game and the expansion either. And we aren’t prohibited from describing such behavior as whiny and “complainy”.

I love gliding, I absolutely adore the chronomancer, I really like most of the new maps, the story mode was fun, even though the story itself wasn’t so much. I love the feeling of getting lost, of knowing that there’s always some nook and cranny I haven’t explored, and the new maps give me that and also bump up the difficulty to a point where the game is actually challenging for once. Another thing I enjoy is the bigger focus on group content – if you don’t want to play with other people, don’t play MMOs! I also actually started playing PvP more actively, which is always nice. Also raids! Where I can be a support player! And the break bar replacing defiance, why the hell is nobody talking about this?!

All in all, while Anet did make some pretty big mistakes (fractals, WvW, legendaries requiring events to fail, which is the dumbest kitten I’ve ever seen) I am confident they will tweak them. The actual gameplay base of the game is more solid than ever and I just can’t wait to see them introduce new elite specs and masteries.

Soloing has been a thing in every MMO ever. If you’re new to the genre I can understand your mistake but if you’re not, you should at least be aware enough to admit that removing what GW2 was most loved for by many paid players (solo content) is what’s caused a portion of the backlash.

WvW was something GW2 did better than any other MMO and they’ve trashed it.

Dungeons never got updates so they added gold. Removing that gold I see as only a cash grab as they added nothing to Fractals at all (other than making ascended not drop at all… Oops).

I am glad to see others enjoying HoT but watch what you call customers who feel cheated.

Yes, solo content has been around in MMOs since forever. Solo high-level content? Not so much. Not to mention I did most of the stuff in VD for example without grouping with anyone. They also didn’t remove solo content, all of it is still there.

Please post a follow up here when you’ve gotten your guildhall solo. You know, access to what we made and had for years.

The rest of your complaints are valid, but as I said – solvable, they are about tweaking how much gold you get etc. WvW is getting no love, true, they mentioned off-handedly a rework, who the kitten knows when it’s going to come, but at least they openly acknowledge that there is a problem .

For those players who have been here from the start,
Changing something after over 3 years of game play is not fixing it.
It is changing it.

If your are less experienced, a change may seem like a good thing.
When you’ve played from the start, your way past looking at a function of the game as needing correction and look at it as a basic core system, regardless of how it functions.

That said, Disconnected is the wrong word. They asked for input in the CDI threads and are now acting on what they got. Unfortunately, casual players don’t post much because they are playing the game .
If they reopened those CDI threads now that changes are rolling out, would casual players post there? Likely many more would now, but would they stay to face the all out attacks from the fanboi base? Not likely.
Mislead might be a better word.
