Which bosses are in which rotation?

I’d assume FE, SB, the Shaman and the Jungle Wurm for the low level.
Modnir, Golem, Jormag, Shatterer, Taidha and the Megadestroyer in the standard rotation.

In what order? Who knows?

Tumult.2578

This is not a race.
There is extremely little talent involved.
The rewards are not awarded according to which position you finish in.
The skills are intentionally glitched.
Actions that normally work every time, only work most of the time here.
Each time a skill fails, (and at least one will every trip) you usually start over.
The 3 elemental spirits generally only block normally good moves of the leaders.

This is not a race by any definition.
Maybe, “The Generally Intentionally Glitched Dolyak Experience” would work for a name.
Perhaps then more people will try it.

I made myself read this entire thread. I realize now that I don’t main Ranger anymore and this thread pretty clearly shows why. I leveled 3 other professions over the last 3 months and they are just so much more fun to play.
I played Ranger for 16 months and loved the concept of pet and ranged combat. “The Concept”, not what it became. I believe the Devs are totally stumped over Ranger and urge you to at least try another profession before committing any significant effort into this one.
I do wonder how anyone can claim the profession is fine, knowing how misleading and damaging that can be to other players and to the Devs. I guess if being the best of the worst is a goal…..
Funny, I haven’t even looked at the other 3 professions forums. Haven’t needed to.

There’s little point in having more than one of the other 2 rewards and there’s lots of good looking weapon skins.

As much as I want to agree…..
After playing Ranger since day one, I got tired of all the constant nerfs and totally lack of Dev understanding, I leveled a Warrior (in a hundredth of the time). The difference was amazing. The Warrior has constant instant access to many forms of swiftness and you get Fury or Might most of the time too. All the weapons work. The class mechanic works. Everything just simply flows perfectly. Everyone seems glad to see me show up. I know, it’s soooooooo strange!
I love my Ranger and will always play it, but do yourself a favor and try a different class or two. You’ll be suprized, or absolutely stunned like me.

Exactly. Of course it’s not going to happen a lot, but still, this is not completely thought out design. Each release should have content designed to reward skill, which means groups of 5 to solo, along with larger group events like the Marionette that require group coordination but not massive guild coordination, along with story driven content that draws us through new maps with new content to new Bosses/Dragons, along with fun filler stuff like the SAB when the Story has to slow while map completion is done.

How’s that for one sentence?

Actually, I wouldn’t mind if individual maps were released in sections that coordinated with the LS. It might give new meaning and options to the Yellow Heart Tasks.

I may have already acquired some of these new Ranger Traits. No problem with the acquiring aspect, except that I don’t know if I have gotten any. That is the problem.

Actually, literature started well before the 1940s. References date the Robin Hood story to the 14th century. Oddly, about the same time as the first hand held pistol was made in China. Those didn’t become functional until the 19th century. For 400 years, the main weapons used were what a GW@ Ranger uses now, excluding a rifle.

Many “sword and sorcery’s” books, fantasy’s and even some heroic epics dealt with what is now, somebodies ideal of what a GW2 Ranger should be.

The reason rangers are hated in PvE

in Ranger

Posted by: Tumult.2578

Tumult.2578

What has not been addressed here is the plain and simple fact that most of the players that find bows and pets fun think of ranger as a character doing damage from range.
Yes, I use sword/warhorn but that’s not my choice, it’s the only way to be effective at all.

If Ranger is ever going to take an equal useful place among the other classes, those bows and pets have to become effective. Both bows and all pets.

When that happens, melee with frost spirit and spotter will still be good, and the so called selfish/bad players will have a way to play effectively without the need to play PvE content in a way that seems selfish.

Oh, please don’t bother giving your interpretation of what a ranger is. It doesn’t matter. We start this game with our own expectations. If the game doesn’t live up to them, we either unhappily move on or lower our expectations. Other’s expectations generally don’t matter.

Upcoming celestial armor changes...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tumult.2578

Tumult.2578

Celestial sigils and runes have enough defense to keep you alive combined with enough offense to get the job done, eventually.
Longer fight, less risk, basically.

Now that we will be able to change our traits on the fly, we should be better prepared for each individual fight. This reduces the risk involved and therefore the need for the durability these runes and sigils provide.

Add to that the reduced cost of dying because of no repair costs, (less risk). That’s seems like some pretty big variables to just say 6% but they have to start somewhere. Celestial may have to go through a trail and error period to ultimately regain it’s true value.

There’s a lot of different things to do in this game and many way to enjoy it.
I’m kind of surprised by a lot of the comments here that imply that if I’m not playing and enjoying the exact same parts of the game that you are, I shouldn’t even be allowed to play here, even though we both paid the same for it.

The AP change seems wrong but we just don’t know enough yet to be sure. There are plenty of other ways to resolve the issue, some as simple as giving players a one time option to be removed from the leaderboard. There’s something else going on here.

Changes to the games reward structure could require this AP change. Efforts designed to make gameplay more friendly, or to restructure grouping or in game communication, or any number of things combined could require it.

Nothing I’ve read in this thread changes my perspective, that the game play that I enjoy, will become rewardless to me. But, let’s wait and see what this week brings. Maybe the issue will be lost in the new changes.

Tumult.2578

The limits on daily and monthly APs overall seems modest. Let’s say you do 10 dailies (twice as many as you need to complete the daily) for 1,000 days straight. IIRC, each daily is 1AP. It would take you 2.7 years to hit that ceiling. Seems like that gives devs plenty of time to come back to these numbers as time progresses to see if they need adjusting in the scale of the game’s lifespan.

I don’t see how this is discouraging at all. I’d venture to guess that a majority of players will not hit this cap any time soon. I’m glad it’ll put a cap on AP inflation from this source, tbh. Like I said, I’d be very surprised if these were numbers that were not re-evaulated at the end of each year or something.

So we clearly need to get caps put on the content that you enjoy specifically so you will understand our perspective. Is that what you’re saying?

Err..? What other AP content is unlimited and causes max-total AP inflation in the way dailies/monthlies currently do? I can think of the salvaging achievement… but maybe you’ll have other examples to provide.

Every other achievement in the game is a solid one-time earning for hitting a landmark (10 AP for killing this meta boss) or a stepping stone for a similarly limited category (500/1,000 somethings slayed).

Also: implying that I don’t like dailies.

I wasn’t implying anything. I used the word specifically. Meaning content that you enjoy, not that you don’t enjoy.
You say that you don’t see it as discouraging. You guess your in the majority. You demand there is AP inflation occurring.

Guess what? It’s just your opinion. Perhaps your opinion would change if it was the part of the game you enjoyed most that was capped.

And seriously? You are going to compare a daily or monthly achievement with one time achievements? So we have one daily and one monthly period. Everyone will love that….

My request for achievements

Tumult.2578

Tumult, does this mean you only played GW2 to get daily points? What about doing dungeons, or living story, or PvP/WvW. Did you never try them out? If you have, you notice there are a lot of points to be gotten there, which you can approach anytime now instead of doing dailies.

For a lot of people, the only reason to log in daily is for the daily achievement. Certainly the other achievements are interesting but not always practical to progress / complete in only an hour each week night.

If you are interested in points, then you are interested in other activities besides dailies because they give a loooot more points short term. If you are not interested in points then nothing will be taken away from you.

Absolutely wrong. I have no interest in PvP and will never care whether there are points available there. Basically the same for WvW although I do enjoy some of that content sometimes.
We each set our own goals for this game. I get to play the way I want, and so do you.
Your entitled to your opinion, but that never means it has to be mine.

Total points, not points every day. You can see them if you hover over your number in the achievement UI.

@Tumult I guarantee you haven’t reached the caps

True, I haven’t. My mistake but it doesn’t change anything. We all pick our own goals. If AP farming is what you enjoy, then you now have an endgame of 10k.

Regardless of the intent of the suggestion, I suspect Anet simply see’s this as another way to force PvE players into the other parts of the game. I just wish they would check to see if they move to another part or another game.

Someone said there’s 3 groups of Devs working separately, but you can bet the other 2 are saying “We want the PvE players here too”, whether they want to or not.

Having reached the acclaimed tag, I have a fair amount of AP but I have never looked at any leader board and never will. Leader boards are very counter productive, except at the top, and simply drive a lot of players away.

With this change it now means that when I reach that 10k goal, it’s the final goal, and I then find a new game. Yes Anet, a very interesting business plan…

Why Do We Hate Rangers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tumult.2578

Tumult.2578

You can level a Ranger to 80 in PvE and never dodge once. Many rangers have done this. Actually, if your constantly minding your pets, because of their admittedly broken mechanic, and trying to not jump off the cliff with your sword, (another major mechanic finally being changed) you don’t have a lot of time to experiment with dodge.

Now, at 80 with good gear, enter Dungeons, WvW, PvP, where all you really have to do is dodge and you get instant hatred from the other classes who cant understand how you can be so bad. Add the broken pets and well…..

So is it wrong to have a profession that doesn’t have to dodge much at all, or is it wrong to make dodge the main mechanic in the game for everyone else, or is there something in between?

Celestial after the patch

Tumult.2578

A game is all about fun. And the question is:

is it more fun to:
1: re-gear a GW2 ele (underpowered class, already quite broken) because our ascended set we spent time and money on got nerfed to the ground?
or
2: discover the world of a new big MMO?

Fun is subjective.

What is more fun?

1. The painful endeavor of abandoning one game to begin grinding through yet another mmo that may or may not be any good, and run the risk of coming full circle to the disappointing realization that you just wasted months of your life on something you don’t enjoy, while coming up with overly long sentences to use in pseudo-occam’s razer straw man arguments.

or

2. A new outlook on stats and gear.

Clearly number 1. You almost described our experience with this game perfectly. Just add that we see the game has great potential but instead everything is constantly nerfed. Once you realize the constant destruction of effort is designed to push us towards the gem shop, it’s time.

I don’t think it is silence so much as exceptionally poor communication. Many Dev posts generate pages of additional questions. Granted, what happened with the Knight fight was enough silence to make players leave.

Players are trying to help make the game better too. We don’t need more confusion. Perhaps a game Communications specialist would be as helpful as a game economist.

It also goes a long way towards making new players move on when they see that one of the top goals requires a huge amount of time and effort, forces them into more and more unfamiliar content, and others before them didn’t have to do it.
I don’t see this as a good way to increase your gem buying base.

Please let’s try it!

Oh, and if you’ve seen map chat, you already know why so many ignore it. Is it so hard to get it through to players that “say” is for your friends nearby, and “map” is to talk to everyone on the whole map (most of who are not interested in your chatter, which is unrelated to what they are doing).

Rangers held their own with strong condition builds for a long time. The Nerf last July to the Shortbow, (to force players to use the Longbow) coupled with changes to skills has removed the strong conditions option.

The only way to remain somewhat effective is to learn the Sword, and when you think you have, it will surprise you. Frankly, it’s an ugly weapon for functionality.

As it stands, I’d say your title is correct. (Strangely, I still play Ranger the most by far).

Not sure if it helps but I suspect the 3 cores I got from a Knight fight, followed by 3 more from the Scarlet fight might be the top cap. Having done the event maybe 40 times, and collected 35 power cores, It seems the average is much less than one but hitting 6, and three 4’s, means 21 of 40 times I got something.

With RNG it could just as easily have been 2 of 40.

What concerns me is the total lack of loot on failures. It drives people away. I’d much rather see less for a win and more for a loss so it remains do-able.

There were parts of the LS that I enjoyed and parts that I intentionally played little or none of. The Marionette was fun. Bringing finishers in LS was no fun whatsoever. The correct allocation of achievement points could have eliminated much of the content that was done in a zerg. I don’t understand why that wasn’t done.

There doesn’t really seem to be any point in trying to assign numbers to the first 19 chapters of the LS because the final chapter has become something I cannot provide positive feedback on, and eliminated any good feeling I had toward the LS.
