Just look at the lifetime (all) of the chart above. Pretty much a foregone conclusion that it will never at any point in the future be possible to make money this way. Just pray the the current value of $1.00 of real money is the equivalent of 1.00 gold in game (which is what it breaks down to at the moment) doesn’t continue to get worse. I’m not holding my breath.

This is actually a useful reference/stat. It does give you a pretty good idea as to what they think is important, regardless of what was said previously. Maybe make this post somewhere other than in the Ranger forum too, as other classes (i.e. necro – which I main on) may find this useful.

There is no need to let the botters back in game. A simpler and safer way of controlling the price increase is to make things sellable only once on the TP. You get a drop, if you need it use it, if you don’t, sell it on the TP. The person that buys it just made it an account bound item. This will stop the power sellers from artificially inflating the price on items just to make a profit. You will see prices adjust to the actual supply and demand, not the artificial ones we see now.

There is a reason the real world market is nearly in ruin, why do we want to keep repeating that in the virtual one?

Why not let us loot bags after we die?

you can release to spawn point and any bags that drop after releasing will actually appear at your feet. Had a massive 3 way fight yesterday, and after I was dead I stayed to watch the end of the fight. Had probably 20 bags taunting me lol. If I had released probably would have gotten half of them at least at spawn point. truthfully was more fun watchng the fight

Was this added with the new patch, because I have had multiple bags inches from my body (on many occasions), released immediately and have never had my loot follow me back to spawn…ever.

Nice. I would love to know what type of gear and stats. Started a ranger on Friday and should hit 80 today or tomorrow. Pet damage is mostly what I’m going for so I thought the video was great.

really wish i took a screenshot at the time..

i just looked at the traits found all the pet buffs ranked them in a rough order of best damage and then took them in the best order

not sure on runes

aloth i did have on kill sigils i charged up before hand..

was a very specific build just to see what a max pet could do.. as a viable build.. not so much

Edit: take alook at my current build that has nice pet damage with eagle burst.. could be more but i tend to go for healing for tpvp

The problem with pets is that they die to AoE from enemies in dungeons, not from AoE by players in SPvP.

Are you delusional? They die from aoe in spvp too. My pet dies passing by a warrior who is using 100blades, that shouldnt ever happen.

Well then you should have a huge advantage in that confrontation now that the War wasted his biggest damage skill on your pet. And you can swap in your pet after it dies.

Ok first, 100blades has a 6 sec cd, second I said passing by a warrior using 100blades, he wasnt attacking me, but if he was he would hit both of us, kill my pet and I would survive because LR or signet, but lets use your scenario. Warrior is attacking someone, pet runs by and at the time warrior is using 100blades and dies. Warrior turns towards me and attacks, I swap new pet out, gain quickness for 2 secs and unload, he uses bladestorm to gap close and evade attacks hits me with his knockdown burst and goes for 100blades, pet dies again, and Im fighting for my life, problem is, if 1 pet dies and you swap him out, you are stuck with a 50-60 sec pet swap cd, now both pets are dead, and for the next 15-20 secs(assumingly) you do 50% less damage, your only option is to run, but warriors have more mobility than rangers, well kitten now you gotta CC him. But warriors have many stability options and stun breakers, well kitten now you gotta put your head between your knees and kiss your kitten goodbye.

I rarely have problems killing on any toon I play, because Im better than most people, but when I see my pet die to a random aoe or get 1 shot by a kill shot or a hard hitting skill by someone trying to kitten me off, I die a little on the inside. Being forced to have a pet if you want to play ranger is stupid, anet failed at this. No getting around it.

This. I finally rolled a ranger this past week, cause I have nothing else to do. My wife plays one primarily. My main argument has always been…why the hell can’t I just put the pet away FOREVER?

Take it out of the market. Make it a skill challenge. A solo instance that comes with a title. I want to be able to prove I didn’t exploit, flip, or buy my way to my legendary.

Then all you guys that got it early can do the same thing for the title. Prove you can actually play the game.

Not everyone has skill. Do you remember how much rage there was in the forums when the Clocktower came out? While I personally wouldn’t mind something like that, imagine how many people would be upset if they couldn’t get a Precursor because it was “too hard”.

I look forward to the Scavenger Hunt idea. But we warned – if the hunt itself is long, more complaints will roll in.

I want to see something like the Mad Tower, but harder (complete the Mad Tower successfully 10 times consecutively, no failure allowed.). Imagine the rage that’ll induce. (Heck I’ll rage pretty hard myself.)

This is a challenge I would take…as it is one of my strong points.

Personally, with regards to the market, the only way to prevent manipulation is to make items account bound once they are purchased from the TP. Then we would get to see the actual supply and demand (and hence the true price) of an item.

I have a couple friends that did this. Yes, they can be targetted, but for some reason the potions make culling worse. The game basically says there is no threat so no reason to tell the poor unsuspecting enemy player…until they are toast.

Necro Downed Stated Bugged?

I would run the repair just to be sure. I tend to overextend a lot due to playstyle so downed frequently. Haven’t seen it bug yet. If you get downed a couple times close together and rally, each time you have a smaller pool of health in the downed state…or at least I do. Eventually, you will skip downed altogether and be insta-dead.

Forget the RNG part, I just wish they would fix the loot tables. There is no reason for 5 level 80 characters to go into a dungeon and get mostly level 35 loot (yes I know AC explorable is level 35). We are constantly getting the back pieces, rings and amulets, and they are always the level 35 version.

The market will be broken until they make all items sellable only once on the TP. You get item X as a drop (or gather the material), if you need it use it. If you do not need it, or can’t even use it (wrong weapon or armor for your class), sell it on the TP. Whoever buys it must “need it” or why else buy it, right?

They should make it so when an item is bought from the TP it is now an account bound item.

We really don’t need people manipulating the market and breaking the economy in the exact same fashion as they have done in the real world.

Somehow after reading the title of this I thought it was going to be a link to a beta for some other game. With that being said, without some sort of frontier (new or old-DAoC at this point) that is persistent, doesn’t reset every X days, and is open to everyone on every server at all times, I don’t see wvw “improving” at all. Fortunately, I still enjoy reset night, like the community I play with and have nothing else to do at the moment…sooo…yeah.

I would like a lot of things to be different, but mostly just in the culling department.
We lack a LOT of things, but I really don’t feel underpowered. I do agree that we are a rarity in warfronts though.

My armor is balanced, and with 24.5k health I can’t complain. With food, I sit around 3400 attack and my bleeds seem to tick from 80 to 120. That said, even though they aren’t spammable, dropping all 4 marks on a single spot (be it wall, small group or individual) is a good deal of damage. Sadly, I have been hit by barrage and firestorm for as much damage as all my marks combined (and I’m not a gc spec), but I am still enjoying playing my necro.

We certainly aren’t the best at anything, but we are a good class.

The only thing that makes me laugh and frustrates me at the same time is fear.
Originally we were the “only” class with access to this “powerful” condition.
Besides warriors who have a better version of it, and thieves, who when they steal it from us, it lasts 3 times as long. Did I mention ranger pets and fear?

At least now they have “fixed” the profession tab on the official site to no longer say any of that.

Necromancer vs the Great Lupi - Tactics!

Did this dungeon last night with some guildies. Starts like a bad joke…so 4 guardians and a necro go into a bar… I was the only spec’d dmg dealer so it was interesting. First pull on him we died as none of us had fought him. With 9 stacks phase 2 went poorly for us. Second pull we downed him and it wasn’t that bad. Key to this fight really seems to be practice not soo much party makeup.

That being said, his bubble of doom in phase 3 can be fatal to us. The key is to not be within 600 of him at all in phase 3, if you are you will likely be dead. I played staff/sceptor focus for all 3 phases. Tried the wurm, but found it unreliable. We lured him as best we could further into the room so moving to the doorway was out of combat. For the 2nd pull, played a 3 well setup with lich form.

1st phase, the guardians handled grubs, with 1 well each grub. The rest was marks on boss and switching to sceptor for bleeds during down time.

2nd phase, about the same. Everything on boss and sceptor when marks were on cd.

3rd phase, is about distance…also, see phase 2.

As for the boss ignoring necros for other classes: He picked on us equally during phase 2 (alternating between the 4 guardians and me), and basically spent all of phase 3 chasing me down. He also likes to stand on corpses. We had 3 total deaths during the second pull (1 of which was a bubble of doom on me). It’s not easy to get him away from a corpse it seems. Took Lich form for me to get him of my wife’s corpse near the end.

I have been back on my necro most of this week. Was fighting a lot at the sentry point sw of TC Garr last night. At one point thought “holy crap I got feared”, and was thinking it was just a steal from thief until I saw the scythe animation across the way (ICoa I think). Was just nice to see another necro in the field.

WvW Necro... Very Under Rated

Some of it is play style…and choice of skills. I played a build that was more condition reliant early on, and found some people I wrecked and others just cleansed.

I have since switched to a power heavy build (in mostly balanced gear) using marks and wells (dag/foci offset). Against bunker builds the damage seems small, but corrupt boon is saved for those fights/players. Even when facing off in small groups/zergs, you start to notice how ‘good’ a necro can be. You get to apply a lot of pressure, and hit surprisingly hard…and for those that don’t get cleansed, go down (yay for allies). Also, for defense, well of power is great. Whether its on walls or open field, turning crap into boons is great (even if the cd sucks).

Survival comes from timing dodge and DS perfectly, and not thinking you’re a bunker ele (yes we can tank, I just try not too). Plague form is a great survival tool too.

Weapon Sigils (Life Steal and Air) for necro

A single cooldown is shared by all sigils. While the cooldown is active, no other sigil with a cooldown can have any effect. For example, if you are using a Sigil of Fire (Chance to cause flame blast on critical) on one weapon, and a Sigil of Battle (Gain stacks of might when you swap to this weapon) on another weapon in your other weapon slot, causing Fire to proc first, then swapping weapons before the 5 second internal cooldown from your Sigil of Fire has expired will prevent the Sigil of Battle from giving you might.
Sigils will enter cooldown even if they have no actual effect. For example, a Sigil of Purity will trigger and enter the 10s cooldown even when the wearer has no conditions.
The mainhand sigil triggers before the offhand sigil.

How to deal with BS thief as a Power necro?

If you are Asura, pain inverter and keep putting down marks. Eventually, you will see a downed thief appear. Kill it and smile.

Also, if you see a guardian, get them to pop aegis for you. You’ll block the steal which is great.

I find the best use of it is to buy me a couple seconds until my heal comes off of cooldown and fear whatever was about to kill me. It also doubles as a shield if you know you are about to take a backstab. Sure, the bs will pop you right out of ds, but you aren’t dead though.

Double check underwater weapons as well. I would get my corruption stacks to 25, and than without being downed would notice I was back to 0-2. Superior sigil on staff. Discovered, at some point I must have put a major sigil of corruption on my spear (which rarely gets used) and since it’s the weapon I use to destroy quaggan nodes, every time I would kill something underwater with the major, it would reset my superior stacks.

Why do people play WvWvW?

Community for me. I’m sure others think the same thing about their server as well, but if TC hadn’t been…well. TC, I would have likely gone to play something else.
My guild is small, basically my wife and I and a few friends. Only 1 of them plays regularly, and my wife does her daily. I tend to play 6+ hours a day, 12+ on weekends some days.
So, since I don’t really find dungeons/fractals “fun”, I was back to doing what I do in most games, leveling and gearing one of every class and achievement whoring.
Did the wvw jp’s, than started on map completion…which put me with a large group taking objectives for poi’s I needed. That was all it took. With the guys/gals running around for our side, you can’t help but log in and play some.

If you ever make it into wvw right at reset, it is some of the most intense fun you are going to find in the game.

I have 5 80’s and have done WvW on 6 different toons (the eng is only 40 still). By far I have gotten the most on the guardian and the fewest on the necro. For the necro, I avg. 1-2 badges for every 100 kills (don’t get many other drops either – and I play staff/wells). The guardian I got about 10-15 for every 100 kills, and this was staff/sceptor-shield (also, got a lot of drops).

I know it’s not based on damage done, because my necro hits like a truck and the aoe spam + conditions is awesome (but the game doesn’t reward you as it is (at times) somewhat mindless to put circles on the ground to tag things.

The guardian was mostly direct damage and boons, but nowhere near the dmg my necro did.

Also, thief, mesmer and warrior in that order for 2nd, 3rd and 4th for badge drop rate.
Seemed to get more from npc guards on the guard and thief, hardly ever on my necro. Supervisors tend to drop porous bones more than badges.

My eng. just spent a lot of time gate watching, moreso than my usual, and I don’t recall getting many, if any, badges.

I voted worse, but the last 2 days it has been both better and worse.

Trying to take hills, 20 vs 25ish: friendly – could only see green dots on the mini map, and the 2 guys downed near the cats and ac; enemy – could see about 10 on the wall, the 15ish [no idea really since they kept appearing and vanishing (not thieves or mesmers) every other second] that jumped out to wipe us, only got half of us, I believe they had the same trouble. They couldn’t see us to attack us, as the red names just appeared/disappeared/reappeared, as if the game couldn’t figure out what was real to tell my client about.

Defending Hills, 3 way fight 25ish vs. 25+ vs 20+, with great movement by both BG and KN inside – not to mention them going at it: I could see most friendly players without any vanishing. Occasionally someone would appear I hadn’t seen, but these were away from the main fight. The wall engagements vs. KN where BG kind of pushed them over, with KN coming back for an awesome rally, BG strategically withdrew, and honestly helped us keep hills – …the point here is I saw it all, every enemy attacking inner, those on outer, the siege they had down, and other than some minor server side ability lag, it rocked. If it was like this for every fight, no one would complain about culling, ever.

But than we go back to, nowhere near anyone/anything, get killed by a warrior (hammer) and ranger. Took them about 10 seconds to kill me, I dropped marks on the ground under me when I took the first hit thinking thief, and they were still there when I died. I could never target them, and they never appeared until I was dead and I saw them heading off. Had to check the combat log to see what skills hit me, hammer and shortbow. At least the server was kind enough to tell them I existed.

I’m not holding my breath for a fix.

More Sandbox Elements in WvW?

This indeed. That guy knows what he is talking about. And you are right, WvW tries to be sandboxy but fails miserably due to several elementary design flaws, one of those being simply bad map design.

Hopefully the next patch brings some new life to this game young game that already feels older than it’s precursor.

Sorry, but the most exciting thing for WvW I’ve come to expect from any new patch is what new bug might have been introduced.

Cactus posts all my favorite comments. I’m not holding my breath for March on the patch. I really just wonder which other achievements they will have to lower/reset/break to make the next patch “work”.

Yeah, this is a much better stat for me .736 dph 134 deaths on 182 hours…although to be fair at least 30 of those deaths were last night. Not going to do my necro, lots of death and time played over there.

Sadly mine is only 3.4. I spend a lot of time standing watch at watergate (or I suck, or both). Even though most of my wvw time was on my necro, I noticed that the condition damage they spam rarely nets you a kill or drop/loot. I’m only 180 hours into my guardian, and have gotten nearly 1000 kills in that time, as opposed to all my other toons which are at 3000 on 1050 hours…most of which are my necro Ghostly. Seeing more drops since switching too, which is nice.

I haven’t seen this but twice, and it’s been a while ago. For me it happened using GS3 and taking falling damage on use. I tend to use it to help speed my way along, and sometimes open combat off a hill/cliff with it. When I landed I took the falling damage, and was stuck until I used another movement skill.

Ubi, ill give you a hint, golems wasnt the first thing they have banned from WvW use, this is probably next on the docket now that anet is aware of the issues with this item.

The game is HUGE, let me ask you, name every single consumeable in this thread right now, and what it does.

The point is I didn’t make the game (so no reason to), but they (hopefully) did, and should know what everything is/does. And after needing/deciding to ban the first item, you (or I at least) would hope that someone in that room would go…what about all the other combat consumables?

I’m guessing either that meeting didn’t take place, or no one cared and it was faster to just “fix” the one item and wait for another thread like this to ban the next item.

What happened to the "huge" Feb WvW update?

Not only did they push out the supposedly big WvW patch, they also toned down the expectations for it. I’m not expecting to be overwhelmed by it. The best case for me is that ANet makes the game tolerable enough to stick with until TESO comes out, but ANet’s lack of responsiveness on key issues doesn’t make that very likely.

So you’d prefer Arenanet to make a big fuss on a huge patch and then subsequently release it full of bugs resulting in a terrible experience.

Nope. I would have preferred that they didn’t short sheet the game by buying an outdated game engine and scrimping on the bandwidth they purchased. I would have preferred that they had the smarts to code the game so that more of the rendering was handled locally instead of having to be sent each time another player came into view. I would have preferred that that they gave players options for how much of the ability effects were displayed so that there was some control over how much extraneous garbage needed to be processed at both ends. I would have preferred that they were more communicative with the WvW player base to acknowledge key problems, explain what needed to be done, provide some sort of expectation on when they might be fixed, and then actually follow through.

What we’ve gotten instead, six months after the fact, is a promise for a fix that has been watered down and pushed out. That “big fuss” already happened (the Habib Loew post), and the patch is supposed to fix the bugs and terrible experience that already exist …. or have you somehow not noticed all the threads complaining about culls and lags?

Siege mechanics

I’ve been on the wall before and watching the quaggan lightning strike take place with me on the siege piece. It can clear all siege off a wall in less than 5 minutes. There have been numerous times defending bay or garrison where realizing mid-siege that the quaggan node was flipped to the attacker. Only takes about 1 minute to realize you have maybe 1 or 2 minutes to get that flipped, or all siege is toast. It’s been that way for months, although some nights it seems to “strike” more often.

And here I thought spirit weapons were OP, no wonder they nerfed them…oh wait…

Seriously, I really am getting the impression they had interns working for them over the summer who actually programmed the entire game, and didn’t get all the bugs out because they had to go back to school. Now that the kids are back in school, the regular employees have no idea how to “fix” anything the interns did or missed cause they have no idea what is going on. Seriously, they had to roll achievement points back 1 point to stop the game from crashing. pulls out what little hair is left

I see this post adding to my infraction list, but I have totally lost all faith.
You would have thought the golems would have given them a clue that some things that are amusing for PvE, should stay there…anything with a combat use.

Why is wvw crashing so much?

Fortunately, I missed the last server crash, but it did kick me out of que.
I’m seriously starting to picture a huge “green” initiative at A-net, trying to save the environment. And, to save on electricity, they just have hamsters on wheels powering some of their equipment. Every now and again, something distracts a hamster and it stops running…boom, server down.

Seriously though, even the amount of time it takes to load into any map, WvW or everywhere else is even starting to take longer. Ability lag appears with no one around and no major events nearby (instant cast and auto attack work, no channeled abilities), getting kicked off line randomly to the character select screen (which sucks when your in a BL and mid fight). I’ll not go down the culling road here…really no need at this point.

Moving troops from one field to another I don’t really see as an issue. But, based on game design, they should make it so when you change maps you LOSE the supply you are carrying. There is no reason 30+ people should be able to carry 15 supply each from one borderland to another to repair or siege. There is a reason the game wants you to establish supply chains and maintain them on a map, I think this is a really big oversight on their part, and, other than culling (which should be removed entirely – give me all the information please), I see this as the biggest problem with WvWvW.

Well, it’s not just worse in WvW…it’s worse everywhere. The “hey look 30 people just killed me…where did they come from?” is still happening. But it happens when it’s 5v5 and 1v3 too. Watching both friendly and enemy players just vanish in and out (so losing target on them) is ridiculous.

Underwater seems to be the worst, and this affects PvE as well. Go fight krait or inquest underwater in some of the lower zones where there will be maybe 3-6 guys to fight. Find one, wait 20 seconds before engaging…yep only 1 guy. Start fighting and now there are 2, 4, 6…haven’t killed any yet but 2 are almost dead…now there are only 3, without killing any. Kill the 3 that are left, and still nothing. The 3 just vanish, not one else kills them, no loot, no XP. Start the fight again with another and get similar results. Sometimes you get to kill them all, other times, some just dematerialize mid-fight as if Captain Kirk had them beamed up mid combat to save them. Wait around…they are just gone.

I’ve been killed by npc mobs that didn’t render before, during or after the fight…and not the mobs with stealth…regular ones. Start getting hit with map open, close map look around, nothing. Hit closest enemy, nothing. Check combat log, yep getting hit. Start hitting aoes and kiting off, no damage to anything, than dead. Wait 5 minutes to see if what hit me would render…nope.

They seriously need to come up with something. Lag is one thing, but I should not be able to get hit by something (WvW or PvE) that the server never bothered to tell me is there (meaning I can’t fight back).

This weekend has been great fun. It’s really the first weekend I’ve had a chance to run my guardian full time, since shelving my necro. There have been some great solo fights, and a few 1 vs 2 and 3. I like the way this week is shaping up.

The problem with this is…there is no que. So, how can they be moved further down in the que when there isn’t one. When 5-10 people are saying in voice chat that they can log in and out of the BL repeatedly with zero issue (no que), and even 1 to 2 people experience que, there is a problem. The example I listed was just last night (for time), but this has been going on for at least a week (to us), at varied times during the day/night with people playing in the US, Canada and Israel.

When you do a test with 5 people trying to log in to the same BL spaced 1 minute apart. Person 1 straight in, person 2 straight in, person 3 – ques, person 4 straight in (3 still in que), person 5 straight in (person 3 still in que), 30 minutes later 3 is still in que. Random members of your test group have logged in and out of the borderland a few times and gotten right back in…this is not a “we have too many people trying to WvW” problem.

This also isn’t the first night we’ve tried this, and it’s not always the same person, or just one person, that can’t get in.

Worse, not just in WvW. Funny, stand around with no one near you…3 minutes later you are still standing alone. Pop aegis, 4 other players appear and get the buff. About a minute later, they vanish again.
