If you want a dev response you’re asking for a Christmas miracle.
Can you throw these in the forge to at least make something you can sell? I forget.
It’s old wizard style
Eh, sexy ele

Oppa Gandalf style!
Back when I first started I played every class and race to get a feel of what I liked and how they worked. I usually ran them till the mid 20’s or past the personal story then moved on. I was learning the game and it wasn’t like I was completely locked in or vested in the characters I was experimenting with. It’s not like I spent hours on hours with them and I didn’t soulbind any super special rare skins and equipment to them so there was nothing lost.
Let this be a test character for you. Give the class and racial story a try and go ahead and delete and start over with proper hair. It’s a decent way to get comfortable with how the game runs and you won’t have to go through the hassle of trying to obtain a hair change kit in the gem store.
Since these bags only drop in Queensdale I know what you’re up to!
Even though it’s pretty affordable to upgrade to larger slot bags, these colored 5 slotters may be of some service to a freshly started player who doesn’t have a bank full of alt money, doesn’t know effective ways to farm, or who just stumbles upon them and might actually need/want them. I mean they are the only bag that drops for free in the game. They’re an inconvenience to you because you’re champ farming in a starter zone; you cannot complain about a high level of starting level loot.
Champ farming in QD is silly. Why not go to Frostgorge? The circuit is just as fast and easy, poaching really doesn’t happen there, map chat is far less immature, and you don’t get cruddy loot. I can’t count how often I’ve done QD and got a white level champ sack. What a waste of time. At least in FG you’re getting at level loot with the appropriate rarity.
Could I get an invite to join, please?
You’ll end up with a non Wintersday related mini that you could have just as easily bought on the BL and have ruined/wasted your current minis. Since they’re all masterwork quality you’d have a slim, slim chance to get a rare mini that may or may not be worth some resell value.
I say don’t do it.
Any crafting recipe that has a recipe item you must obtain has to be leard through that recipe item alone. No discovery. It’s always been that way from the ones you get at karma vendors, profession specific crafting vendors, the BL, or rng.
Maybe TP speculators are buying potentially high end cooking mats for the inevitable raising of the cook profession to 500. I know I’m buying any kind of cooking mats found in level in 80 zones like mad with the hopes of turning them around for big profits.
This seems to be a new theme with LS content. They’re only going to spell out 90% of the achievements and leave the rest to be finished out by the appropriately themed daily achievements.
Welcome to a new level of time gating.
Also, the amount of karma you receive depends on how much lower the fractal you ran was compared to your reward level. You’ll get less karma doing a lvl 28 fractal than you would by doing a 19 or a 10.
It is if you have more than one toon… My level 500’s are on three different toons, so I would suspect the same is true for Zaxares.
Both the Light of Dwayna and the Shadow of Grenth are account bound and soulbound on use so it doesn’t matter how many toons you have; you still only need one recipe for each of these.
In my case I have both recipes on my leatherworker. He can create either of these back pieces and I can pass them onto my necro or my warrior without needing to get multiple copies of said recipes.
You need one for each crafting discipline. One for tailor (light), one for leatherworker (medium), and one for Armorsmith (heavy).
Back items aren’t light, medium, or heavy so why would they be profession specific here? The recipe just lists leatherworker, tailor, and armorsmith because it’s able to be used by each of these professions, but not that the recipe is a requirement for each.
Since fractals are a gateway to alternate realities and time travel this could be an easy and unobtrusive way to bring back the order mentors we’d like to see back in the game.
Order of Whispers could be themed around subterfuge and espionage to sneak into an enemy compound and disrupt their plans. There could be traps, sneaking around, and the classic “beat this guy up and steal his clothes” sort of elements to make it fun and interesting in a way other fractals aren’t. And of course, at the end, a great and daring escape a la Super Metroid.
Durmand Priory’s fractal could incorporate the puzzle solving elements that are seen in guild puzzles to navigate a dungeon to discover a hidden treasure; maybe even explain how Ogden Stonehealer got involved with the Priory! Playing into the theme of discovery and intelligence that the Priory is known for could bring new mechanics into fractals beyond killing mobs.
The Vigil could be a shorter fractal than the others, in line with swamp or underwater. Instead of exploring a larger area this fractal could be centered around a fort or encampment and be a tower of defense style challenge. Using resources, planting siege, and planning repairs players could incorporate WvW elements, tactical thinking, and group communication.
In all three examples they not only return our mentors but infuse fractals with mechanics we enjoy in other parts of the game but don’t necessarily see as large scale challenges. These new fractals could bring those into the fold and break up the monotony of a linear dungeon fractal run and use some tactics and utilize a cohesive group dynamic.
Of course, Tybalt, Forgal, and Sieran would be in each of their orders instances cheering us on, making funny comments, and giving us the same feels they did when we encountered them the first time. With a new environment unbound by time or existence it could breath new life in those we once knew.
There isn’t a rule saying you can’t have 2 on crit sigils on at the same time nor is anyone saying they won’t work. The issue is that they both share a cooldown. Let’s say you’re equipping the following sigils in this example:
Superior Sigil of Blood – 5 second cooldown
Superior Sigil of Water – 10 second cooldown
Since both sigils have a 30% chance to proc your first hit and has an equal chance for either to take effect. If the Superior Sigil of Water procs your Superior Sigil of Blood won’t even have the opportunity to proc for the full 10 second cooldown.
People don’t use 2 on crits at a time because the shared cooldowns in addition to the proc percentage means you’re not getting full use of both of the sigils. It’s always better to stack an on crit with an on swap, on kill, or some other type to make sure you’re making use of both of your used slots.
When I first started posting in this thread the OP asked this:
Is Silk really that much easier to get than Mitril, Elder Wood or Cured Thick Leather? Do you get twice as much Silk as any of the other two?
I simply replied that from salvages I have a fair supply of silk. This was followed by Ignavia wondering in what proportions they dropped in relation to other mats. Since I’m a data compilation enthusiast I was eager to supply my findings just for the sake of adding data to the conversation.
It wasn’t to justify the need for 100 silk scraps or saying it was appropriate to farm in one days time. Just because you can refine a mat once a day doesn’t mean you have to or should work to produce one a day just cause. Welcome to time gating. I did say, however, that it was a reasonable gain within the confines of time limitations.
The comments got me thinking about the nature of salvage, recipe requirements, and the balance in these recipes and how it actually all works out. I came up with two theories as to why so much silk is need and how the recipes for damask can be validated.
Many are quick to point out that my silk gain is on par with leather, ore, and wood. Note that ore can be salvaged from weapons and heavy armor. Wood comes from weapons only, leather from medium armor, and silk from light. (from the wiki http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvage)
Consider the fact that I had 60 pieces of armors of various types and 89 weapons. I had 33% more weapons which equals more ore than if I were just salvaging heavy armors alone. From the 60 pieces of armor it can be assumed that I had little heavy armor compared to light and medium because I’m also getting ore from the weapons. So assuming I had more light and medium, I ended up with more silk than leather.
This can indicate that the salvage rate for silk is greater than leather or that I ended up with more lights. I didn’t keep track at the time but if memory serves correct I think I had more medium so I lean toward the idea that the salvage rate of silk is actually higher than that of medium for leather or ore from heavy.
This could be even seen as reflected in the trading post since level 80 light armors of fine or masterwork quality sell at a minimum of 3 silver+ while medium and heavy can be found for as low as 1 silver 8 copper. If the salvage return on lights equals more silk then these others then the prices are higher since people have already purchased, salvaged, and sold these mats till the prices were too high to validate. This could be a clue that the silk salvage rate was/is pretty successful compared to medium or heavy.
tl;dr (pt1) – It may be possible, through salvage of armors, that silk is actually easier to obtain than than ore or leather.
Gossamer is only used in armor crafting. Light armor wearers are quick to say the recipe is unfair because so much is required of them but all professions need gossamer for their insignias at an equal rate.
Gossamer is needed for light armor and armor insignias only. Cured Thick Leather Squares are not only used to craft medium armor but are also involved in the production of light and also needed to craft bows. Mithril Ingots are used in heavy armor crafting but also needed for every (non bow) ascended weapon recipe. Since gossamer is only used in the armor crafting professions the mats don’t see the same sink that leather and mithril do.
Players who dual wield and have 2 weapon sets actually have to use more ore and leather in addition to their armor crafting if they want to go full ascended. This may have been a factor in making the cost of producing Bolts of Damask so high as there isn’t another mat sink outside of the armor professions.
Bolt of Damask – light armor, insignias (needed by all professions)
Elonial Leather Square – light armor, medium armor, bows
Deldrimor Steel Ingot – heavy armor, 12 different weapons
Looking at the uses for these mats spelled out it’s clear to see that there are more burdens on leather and steel since they’re used for so much more than just crafting an armor set.
I am no economist, but one would think that the additional silk sink would be to create an equal volume of use for all three materials and balance them out on the market side.
tl;dr (pt2) -Damask may require more silk because there aren’t additional mat sinks involved with other ascended crafting professions like those that require leather or ore.
For crafting, banking, and trading nothing beats Rata Sum. Everything is oriented in a way that makes sense and isn’t cluttered (I’m lookin’ at you Holebrak and Black Citadel), what you need is a closer run than other cities (the run from crafting to TP or bank is long in the Groove and Black Citadel), and you’re not dealing with the clutter of other players and the exceptionally longer load times they create at the start of the living story.
The only reason I even dare go into Lions Arch is for the Mystic Forge. Much like the real LA it’s congested, people are rude, and it’s just a dirty mess. j/k
And how is this compared to Mithril Ore, Elder Wood Logs and Thick Leather Sections? I would love to get some input on this, as I currently just have my data and since each player plays the game a little different.
I decided to log my days worth of activities and salvages to see how they may add up and if the data meshes with yours. I feel that even though this is a small sample in the grand scheme of things it’s an accurate portrayal of my history of salvages.
The following information is taken from basic, fine, and masterwork salvages using a Copper-Fed Salvage-O-Matic. The spoiler shows a more in depth breakdown of what was salvaged from each rarity category.
These numbers do not include drops similar to tattered hides, clumps of ore, or rags; nor do they include mats from bags like heavy moldy bags.

Orichalcum Ore – 9
Essence of Luck (fine 10) – 77
Essence of Luck (masterwork 50) – 10
Essence of Luck (rare 100) – 1
It’s interesting to note that fine salvages yielded a greater number of mats while masterworks produced more essences of luck. This correlation between mats and essences may be an intentional trade off or because the sample size here is so small it may just be coincidence. Either way I felt it was worth noting.
The meta bosses were nicely timed to be in close proximity to each other so waiting was nominal to nonexistent. The dungeons were speed runs of AC 1/3, CoF1, and HotW1. Metas and dungeons together were less than 3.5 hrs total though the timing and ease of dungeon runs was optimal. Of course, this is not always the case.
At a rate like this it’s easy to see that 43 silk scraps a day can easily accumulate. Considering the time gated nature of ascended crafting, laurels, and gold costs one can easily farm enough silk for their crafting needs while also earning the other resources required to go toward said crafting at the same time.

While running AC path 1 I got an exotic trident from a random mob and didn’t think anything of it until I tried selling it on the BL after the run. The buy order was at 40 gold so I was just thrilled that this would turn into the money for my ascended weapon crafting. I linked it in the guild saying I was going to make some cash and sold it.
Unbeknownst to me, a moment later a guildie said they just spent a lot of time at the forge trying to get lucky for that particular precursor. PRECURSOR???
I got one as a drop and didn’t even realize it! Though I have no interest in a legendary trident, I would have kept a hold of it at least a little while longer to oggle it and feel lucky. I still feel pretty excited that one finally landed for me though.

Maybe she was just born that way
Maybe it’s Maybelline!
Dulfy, this time you have gone above and beyond the call of duty. You are amazing and this is truly wonderful. Thanks so much!
Indeed, it is common sense that ascended gear is a long term goal. It is also common sense that the price will drop. The real question is however, why you need 100 Bolts of Silk for a Spool of Silk Weaving Thread, when you need
- 50 Mithril Ingots for one Lump of Mithrillium
- 50 Elder Wood Planks for one Glob of Elder Spirit Residue
- 50 Cured Thick Leather Squares for one Spool of Thick Elonian Cord
Is Silk really that much easier to get than Mitril, Elder Wood or Cured Thick Leather? Do you get twice as much Silk as any of the other two?
Since I salvage every blue and green item i can for magic find i actually do end up with more silk than i have uses for. It builds up pretty quickly.
I haven’t got a card yet…
RNG strikes again!!!
There are two important points to note when looking at the price of Bolts of Damask vs Elonian Leather Squares and Deldrimor Steel:
1.)
Elonian Leather Squares and Deldrimor Steel Ingots were craftable with the weapon professions. Because of this, sellers have had time to make more and so the market has a fair amount of suppply right now unlike damask.
Those with foresight who wanted to make these materials themselves have had time to produce leather and steel on their own thus lowering the market demand on these items.
high supply + low demand = lower prices
Damask is the new kid on the block so both self producers and manufacturers haven’t had the same amount of time to produce so the price is naturally higher than the other two mats. We haven’t even had ascended armor crafting for a month yet and you’re expecting the market to be as settled and balanced as it is for materials that have been available for months.
2.)
Before ascended armor crafting was released there was a mad scramble by speculators to buy as much silk as they could at super low prices. Every day I hear stories of people buying silk by the thousands at 8 copper a piece and turning around today to sell the mats for 1 silver and 44 copper. That’s a great turn around and wisely invested.
Even smarter, more money hungry, and cutthroat, (that’s capitalism for ya) are those that are actually taking these mats and refining them into damask so that they can price gouge the market before things have settled and while people are impatient and willing to pay whatever the price.
One of my guildies is sporting full ascended light armor and bragging about buying all her damask. I’m sure if she even waited till next month she could have saved herself hundreds of gold but was compelled to keep up with the Jonses. People like her are why people like these exist.
Profiteers know these prices aren’t going to stay high forever and so are trying to milk the timing and the situation for all it’s worth especially while they’re knee deep in pre bought mats. Once these financial monsters have had their fill it will be another catalyst for prices lowering and the market stabilizing.
I feel the recipes are fine and will settle down to match something near the leather and steel; this includes the mats needed to refine the Bolts of Damask. You just have to be patient and realize that this is how things go in a free market economy. In time it will be affordable. Until then, just make something with Elonian Leather Squares.
I think that if you’re traited for Target the Weak (2% damage for each condition on a foe) adding a new condition with torment could make this actually more powerful than Sigil of Earth or Geomancy.
Considering there are many options for bleed application as a necro these sigils are contributing nothing toward synergy with Target the Weak and not helping to increase your damage; also In a group situation bleeds are flying around more than ranger arrows so once again these sigils become a waste. At least with Sigil of Torment you’re applying a condition you don’t see applied often (let alone at full stacks like bleed) which is also giving you a 2% boost in your damage efficiency above any of the bleeding type sigils.
For further build synergy with the Curse trait line you could also take Terror so that you’re forcing your enemy to move with fear, damaging them with fear, hitting then with torment, and boosting your damage by 4% (fear, torment).
1-5 gems is literally pennies in real life currency. For a month long event like Wintersday, spending less than a dime for something fun and unique for 30 days is a fair enough price for a rental.
So you are willing to hang on to useless materials for two years in the hopes of crafting some minis? I think you’d be better served by just deleting it.
I really, really, really recommend running Guardian (any level), spamming Staff #1. Makes it a cake even solo.
The engineers flame thrower is also a great way to go.
Wait for all crafting professions to reach 500 and ask again.
Next time someone pings something, you can just ping a worthless grey item instead for laugh
Keep Polla on hand to link cause she’s too OP!
I’ve been trying my whole life. This is an uber rare drop.
I get a stack of Ogre Pet Whistles every couple of weeks and haven’t had issues starting the quest. I always port to Grostogg’s Krall WP where I have to defend against a couple waves of branded, perform the escort mission, then defend Gladefall from the Flame Legion, so your wiki quote is accurate in the steps you need to perform.
The cycle of events seems to repeat pretty quickly after it’s completion, so if you see Gortho at Gladefall that means the event chain is over. Check back at Grostogg’s Krall in about 30 min to see if it’s starting over.
Have you played Skyrim? There were load screens for the loading screens just so you could go to the next room to see another loading screen and those took forever!
GW2 loading screens are pretty fine for my 1 year old computer. The only tough times I have are loading LA at the start of any LS content or also starting the game fresh when my character was parked in LA. I generally avoid that awful place.
Weapon and armor item nomenclature is dictated by the mats that are used to make their inscriptions and insignias. If you want berzerker’s you need to buy/collect Vials of Powerful Blood; if you want to craft valkyrie then you need Vicious Fangs.
I think an item like you’re suggesting could be potentially disruptive to the economy regarding T6 mats. At this moment, Elaborate Totems sell for 19 silver while Vicious Fangs cost 39. In a free market economy these prices are dictated by the supply and demand. An item that would enable someone to craft cleric’s and get valkyrie instead would throw the price balance in the T6 ranges out of proportion in relation to the availability of the items which could have costly after effects in crafting from exotic to ascended as well as impacting the crafting of legendaries.
The only way to counter that would be to price this stat changing stone far above the prices of current transmutation stones so that it would be an item of convience to the user but not so that it could exploit the market. At that point the stat stone may be so expensive that it would be cheaper to just recraft your armor or weapons yourself. The implementation could be very tricky to balance and probably wouldn’t work out for most.
My recipe does not even have a sell or a mail function, only use(already have one) and destroy.
I am still unable to sell mine, Got it out of a chest pre-hotfix. Kind of annoyed missing out on some possible gold.
Also will not let me mail it either, only comes up with use or destroy.
There are two programing codes for this recipe. The code for recipes obtained before the bug fix are account bound. ANet didn’t change these in any way and they are still account bound. Any recipes found after the fix have a different coding enabling them to be sold on the TP.
Both of you must have recipes obtained pre fix so can’t sell them to other players.

According to Duffy you do need that jump.

EG —-—-> HgH if traited
No, this isn’t correct at all.
Super Elixir and Elixir F do not grant might with HGH traited.
Cripple and swiftness granted from Elixir F are not increased due to Potent Elixirs, nor is the duration of the light/healing field from Super Elixir.
Recharge of both skills are not reduced by traiting Fast-Acting Elixirs.
It’s been known that Elixir Gun doesn’t work with elixir traits even though some of the skills in the kit are classified as elixirs. There have been mixed reviews regarding the nature of the kit as a bug or working as intended. To be sure I double checked in the mists and it’s not cooperating with these traits.
The Recipe: Light of Dwayna is still not showing in the TP for those of us who have horrible RNG luck.
if you dont push the button twice fast enough the waterfield wont appear right at the start.
The 2nd button press activates the healing turret overcharge on the next healing turet activation – as long as you press the button fast enough in succession it will always be almost instant (still takes like half a second to pop) but if you dont you might have a quite noticable delay
This isn’t exactly correct.
The healing turret procs a regen every 3 seconds after being deployed. When you activate your water field with Cleansing Burst it doesn’t appear untill the next regen charge from the healing turret would. If you hit F1 on the 1st second of a 3 second countdown you still have 2 seconds before you see your water field no matter how fast you want to tap that button. It’s not an instant effect.
When you use Cleansing Burst there are two ways you can tell when it’s time to blast finish for AoE healing:
Watch your turret. When the water field is activated the turret will start spraying water like a sprinkler and spin around faster. That’s when the field is up.
You can also watch the border of the turrets area of effect. When the water field is up the white ring that surrounds your turret will have the tell tale combo border that looks like puzzle pieces and hearts.
There’s also a “Tengu” quest somewhere. IIRC, you are transformed into a bird-like figure to frighten local grawl, or something like that. 5 unique skills, and actually quite fun.
Oh yeah, you transform into like the Norn raven elite, or just a bird. but yeah
I’d actually love to see the Hylek thing used in Wvw. People would be so confused
It’s true, you’re not a tengu, you’re a raven norn.

Considering Elixir U has a 50 second cooldown, 40 with Fast-Acting Elixirs, I don’t see this as a viable way to consistently gamble for increased DPS at the sacrifice of better utility skills. Also, you must consider an observant opponent can see your AED buff and may easily counter your frenzy and turn it against your favor. AED doesn’t make you invincible and Elixer U’s frenzy lasts 6 seconds while AED’s resurgence (American Horror Story Coven) buff only lasts for 4. You’re open to some hurt if you don’t die.
Looking at frenzy with new healing skills the warriors have a more reasonable combo with Defiant Stance + Frenzy since the stance converts the incoming damage to healing, thus maximizing their healing potential.
The main reason for me to craft any profession from 400 to 500 is the additional 25 achievement points + the AP earned from previous crafting levels and that’s enough meaning for me.
People seem to forget that the AP aspect of crafting is also a reward onto itself if the gear means something to you or not.
That does not say you can unbind for sale. It says you can unbind them to make it account bound to give to another character.
You are correct. I was looking at this post from the context of the previous one where they wanted to exchange the item in the same account. My mistake.
Since no one wants to give you legitimate reasons why their race is great at engineer let me explain why the charr engineer is far superior:
Charr racial utility skills have shorter cool downs than both the asura and sylvari giving you more opportunity to use said skills and earn more utility out of them. At the same time, the charr racial skills have more synergy with engineer builds than norn or human which are situational at best.
If you’re running an HGH build, having Battle Roar stack an additional 2 stacks of might helps you reach 25 stacks easier and also helps keep that number up, while the toolbelt Invigorating Roar assists your entire party and helps add an additional boon to you.
If you’re fully traited into Alchemy for your Energy Conversion Matrix, this single racial skill is granting you 2 boons together for 10 seconds (vigor for 10, might for 15) which gives you an additional 2% total damage + the additional power from the might. No other racial skill can boast that kind of boost to damage on top of the full party support.
As mentioned before, Hidden Pistol is great for a Static Discharge build. If you trait as far as to get Scope you can use the Hidden Pistol to put distance between you and your target gaining an additional 10% crit chance which you use when you unload your toolbelt skill AND a static discharge attack. It’s a great burst damage opportunity that is also enriched by the Tools traitlines; 20% additional crit damage and 20% reduced toolbelt cool downs making this combo available to use every 24 seconds. (if you’re traiting for Scope)
If you want to play as a bomb or grenade kit engineer then the Shrapnel Mine can be a great addition. Shrapnel Mine counts as an explosion and as such benefits from the traits Shrapnel (explosions have a 15% chance to cause bleeding), Explosive Powder (increases damage by 10%), and the grandmaster trait Steel-Packed Powder (explosions cause 5s vulnerability) and I’ve tested this to be certain. With the tool belt Mine Field, that’s 6 opportunities to inflict a 12 second bleed at 15% each + 5s vulnerability each time! Plus, who doesn’t love extra damage from already powerful explosive utilities. This is a great thing to bring along while your normal Bomb Kit skills are on cooldown. No other racial skill can synergize with an existing engineer trait line as well as this utility and the cool downs are 18 for the utility skill, Throw Mine, and 20 for the tool belt skill, Mine Field. ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?!!!?
The charr were born to be engineers and more so the engineer class was built to work with charr racial skills. Humans, asura, sylvari, and norn racials can’t even pretend to work as well with this class and it is clearly the superior winner.

I love this comic! Where was it from and do they do stuff like this on a regular basis?
I think the player base is kind of fed up with all the various currencies in the game. Adding more seems counter productive.
Would it be possible to transmute the look to the stats of a non bound wepon then use a transmutation splitter to break them apart leaving the freshly split ascended weapon non bound?
Demongrub Pits in Queensdale.
Edit: This JP features 3 chests which is a great farm for Empyreal Fragments as well. Another reason it’s worth the run if you need them.

There are 6 chests that are easy to get to in Queensdale that give you fragments each time and add up very quickly. There are some vids out there about the Queensdale chest run like this one:
It takes about 7 minutes to do for each of your characters each day.
