The gauntlet should be permanent, I agree. Almost all of the temporary stuff I agreed with the temporary aspect to keep them from becoming dry and stagnant, but the potential for this to last a long, long time is amazing.
I’ll trade the gauntlet for the Moa race.
Yes, the sad story of JQ continues, and will most likely continue for some time. BG and SOR will continue to farm them and keep them in lemming mode, and the rest of us will watch in amazement, shaking our heads with pity.
An unusual statement coming from a server that made me buy more bag slots on my alts.
Normally I agree with things being temporary, but in this case I’m not seeing the reasoning for it. The gauntlet looks exactly like the type of permanent content that would be amazing if left in game. Well, we have a month to beg, plead and bribe ANet to maybe, just maybe, reconsider in this one case.
So… ANet, what’cha say… Pwease?
The GW2 world seems to be going into a more mechanical/steampunk look based on recent living stories. Like sky pirates, sky merchants, and soon watchwork tech.
And this makes me incredibly happy.
I agree. Steampunk fits rather well in Tyria.
How does steampunk fit with a high fantasy setting? Because they had to force feed it to us from the start because they created these dragons which were described as unstoppable creatures?
In a high fantasy setting it probably wouldn’t. In Guild Wars 2, it fits nicely.
I was planning on mowing the lawn after work today. I think I feel like doing it tomorrow now.
I was going to post a “buff mesmers” thread but I’d feel guilty now. Maybe I’ll just play on my ele…
Nah, I don’t care to bother to look for things that may tell me someone is “bad” therefore making them a safe target. I’m secure enough in my own abilities that I don’t need to enter a fight with an assumed predetermined outcome. It must be difficult to run around in WvW avoiding scary fights in order to target those that appear weak… difficult enough to have to post about it screaming like a whisper in the dark for like-minded souls.
+1 for the Jurassic Park reference.
Jade Quarry is of course still welcoming guilds looking for that perfect blend of serious and fun WvW. Come get your rocks off in the Quarry!
Also, are you interesting in buying some Quagrotica?
Do you have the HD version of “Quaggan Does Dallas”?
It’s for a friend…
if JQ as a whole were given the option to tick +695 24/7 but no one from JQ would be allowed to enter wvw, would they take it?
according to this thread, yes, yes they would.
Um… just long enough to get all my map completions done.
JQ has a huge PvE contingent as well as a great community.
Trahearne, while visiting, has an unfortunate experience when the piece of floor over the great collapse he’s standing on fails (accident?), sending him plummeting into the endless void below. For hours his final words can be heard echoing up from the depths… “This well won’t end!”
Bear in mind that Zhaitan rose over 100 years ago in-game, and Primordus rose over 200 years ago. These guys have been around for quite some time, so devouring the world obviously takes a while.
And…the world still held parties during this time.
I thought it was Zhaitan who rose first. From what I understand, Primordus was the last of the elder dragons to awaken, due to the events which forestalled its awakening in GW:EN.
Otherwise, why does Zhaitan have such a large foothold in Tyria, while primordus has nothing more than a few isolated groups of destroyers? Don’t get me wrong, destroyers are almost as numerous as risen, but Primordus has nothing compared to Orr.
Primordus’s awakening was delayed, but only for 42 years. He was supposed to awaken in 1078 AE (around the end of GW:Eye of the North), but was delayed to 1120 AE due to us killing the Great Destroyer.
Jormag awoke in 1165 AE. Zhaitan awoke in 1219 AE, and finally Kralkatorrik awoke in 1320 AE…5 years prior to the start of GW2. The deep sea dragon woke somewhere at some point.
I may be wrong, but I think Zhaitan hasn’t been doing much because he’s been sitting there absorbing all the energy from the artifacts in Orr.
There’s that number again… 42…
Oh, I was there. I was there. I’m still there when I sleep. Rabbits are evil, man.
Unless I’m missing it, it would be really handy to be able to, in the dungeon achievements panel, see which legs of the dungeon you’ve run and which you still need to do. When I look at it I have no idea what I’ve done to date, mainly because I’ve spent so much time in WvW that I’ve forgotten…
Oh my. Collector’s Edition for myself, digi-deluxes (2) for the kids… lots of gems… meh… hundreds easily. (If ANet wishes to post an exact figure for me I give permission.) What’s the point in counting though? Am I still having a blast? Hell yeah, and it’s only getting better.
…
With 45 min of game per day, I have the same stuff, …
Actually no, you don’t.
I have a lot of fun.
You know you WvW too much when you revive a three month old thread on “you know you WvW too much” because you came up with another reason.
10 years is not normally a Jubilee
And cowards are not normally celebrated as heroes, but Logan’s place in Divinity’s Reach shows us that Krytan pride doesn’t concern itself with details.
I can’t say saving the queen from branded threat is cowardness.
That’s true… he did run from one fight directly into another. Coward or Hero depends if you were part of the fight he ran from or to.
Crap… wrong sub-forum.
At least, I hope they get buffed up a bit, especially in the scaling category. Let’s say, hypothetically, the masses descend on Orr in a state of carnal bloodlust ready to rip every Champion on the map a new one at the drop of the soap in the shower… (whoa, sorry… that analogy tore the leash out of my hands and went off after the squirrel…) one thing that would “ruin it” (well, take some of the fun out of it) is if the Champions get melted like a paper tower gate during a golem rush. If fifty, seventy or however many people are fighting the champion there should still be that sense that you could very easily be face down in the dirt if you and/or everyone else screws up.
So what do you think… buff the Champions?
Yaks are worth 3 points no matter how many people kill them. As for the points per player kill, well, we explore many ideas over the course of development and I’ll never say never.
IF you did, I’d be careful to add a similar diminishing returns per character like you do with wxp to minimize or prevent point farming. You know, the whole “worth less the more often they die” thing.
Why are world ranks not account bound? I’m almost more surprised that sPvP is account bound but WvW isn’t, because in WvW your profession’s role is more homogenized due to the massive scale of objectives and siege weaponry, whereas in sPvP your profession is very important.
In other words, you can be almost equally effective in WvW as an experienced level 80 Necromancer or a newbie level 80 Mesmer, as long as you are a veteran WvW player. Whereas in sPvP, just because you are a veteran sPvP player does not mean you are going to be good on a newbie level 80 Mesmer if you’ve never touched the profession before.
Anyway, rambling aside, just make WvW account bound. You’ll encourage people to mix it up and not get burned out.
I’m actually inclined to agree with making it account bound. I just wonder how much behind the scenes work would need to be done to do that… it could be that making it character bound had a much smaller overall ripple effect in the system with regards to coding.
Devon, don’t think it is highly unlikely people will (AND ALREADY HAVE) leave for that crap excuse. If you’re going to consider your company an “mmo powerhouse” deliver “powerhouse” gameplay. Excuses about why you can’t make a CRUCIAL game mechanic change are simply that… Excuses. Not professional. Gw2 lost almost all it’s competitive base and you aren’t willing to go the distance to capture the market share lost. Bad business model. Enjoy mediocrity.
Man, if I put the effort into working out that you put into trolling I’d be the next Mr. Universe. I’ve been programming for a couple decades now. It’s very easy to see how in incredibly large systems things that on the surface seem simple to a layman are in fact ungodly difficult if not nearly impossible to pull off without massive efforts due to the depth at which you have to make changes to the core of the system itself and how those changes radiate out to the system as a whole.
Rewarded by imbalancing players against other players?
Where is my ascended back item?
Don’t know, but mine is waiting for me to get a glob of something I thought I already had and a visit to the Mystic Forge.
Simple question. Why is there an aoe cap? And no, please do not come up with that “technical limitation” lie. There has been thousands games before this with massive pvp and no aoe cap, why would your engine be somehow so infernior to that of these older games?
What you seem to be missing is that technical limitations are not about the fact that a solution somewhere may have existed for some other thing. Our game is using an engine that has these technical limitations. We could, for instance, display everything as text, which would solve the problem quite nicely, however we’ve found that our graphics offer something a text-based MMO couldn’t quite deliver. The point is, it is very much a limitation of our engine. The load on the server CPU would be quite simply unsustainable if we were to increase the AoE cap as the more players hit by skills the more calculations it has to do and it actually starts increasing exponentially, rather than sequentially. We continue to seek out ways to squeeze more performance out of our game and our servers, but it is highly unlikely we would ever make a change to the AoE limits on player skills.
Yikes, I shudder to think about something similar with body blocking (being asked for in another thread) and all those collision detections being thrown in there.
It is not as simple as having both, it is something that is within the code and the interaction of multiple different elements of the game. So it might look like an easy thing on the outside – under the hood there is a lot of programming magic going on.
So if you need to have a bankspace to protect yourself from – well – yourself, you have to use the “individual guild” route.
I don’t understand why there can’t be both. We currently have Gold and Karma which is character bound, as well as Gems and Laurels which are account bound. Since all the other tokens that will be added are also account bound to begin with why can’t they be converted without effecting gold and how the bank works in general?
I’m almost 50 gold from getting the bank gold achievement. Will that achievement dry up as of August 6th since there won’t be any bank gold anymore? That seems kind of silly to me.
The achievement will still be there and work, it’ll count the gold in the wallet instead of the bank. Martin explained that there are technical reasons for not leaving the gold in the bank.
Here’s the skinny. A month or two into the release and there won’t be a single post complaining about the wallet. It’ll be old news, adapted to and people will have moved on to complain about the next release they won’t be complaining about shortly after. Let’s see it in practice for once before freaking out, eh?
I don’t actually have a problem with it. As long as it doesn’t mess up my achievement progress it’s fine. I was mostly just commenting that the mechanics of the situation don’t make sense. It’s like someone else said, in order to create a system that apparently won’t effect core systems they’re breaking core systems.
With Karma merging, though, I guess it’s time I actually started drinking all the Karma I’ve been storing since they started distributing it in liquid form.
About the karma, the jugs will still work the same, the only difference is that you’ll be drinking for the whole account and not a single character. So drinking them now or later doesn’t matter.
Remember JQ, the outcome of this match is decided by you.
In that case we should force an exact tie between FA and DB. After all, we’re all winners, right? No one really loses if we all have fun.

+1 for skritten
However, the filter needs an upgrade. It’s annoying when “kitten” gets stuck in the middle of words, and how you can’t type “that-it’s” without the filter thinking we’re talking about breasts.
But “at it’s” is ok. (If improper…)
I think the crown pavilion is obviously periment content. Look at it, it’s a complete redesign of the district.
Unless it collapses again at the end of the two weeks/month…
… and Primordus comes out, right in the midst of Divinity’s Reach.
<Insert dramatic prairie dog here...>Yes, in Fractals you can change a number to increase the difficulty of the Fractals. Gambits are completely different, however, in that you activate a specific condition. For example, completing the challenge without being able to dodge.
Oh, I don’t like that, I don’t like that at all. I can barely play other games now where I can’t dodge thanks to GW2 combat… not being able to dodge in GW2 could cause me to bleed out the ears. I’ll skip that one, thank you very much!
Will check out others though…
Not being able to dodge… <shudder>… there are some cruel minds working there.
Gaile, this may seem a silly question, but would asking for my account name to be modified from VOLKON.1290 to Volkon.1290 fall under the “we can’t do that” category? I’m not sure how I wound up with all caps, but I feel like I’m yelling at myself and everyone else. :P
Thanks!
Nice catch on the film. Hopefully it’s enough for ANet to react with.
Well, there’s been some good trollin’ and some good fightin’, but when all is said and done, good week all, it’s been a refreshing break locking horns with DB and FA. Just remember… there will come a day when the majority of RATS have their elite skills unlocked at least. Then you’d best watch your kneecaps!
It’s only fair to switch from “kitten” to “puppy”.
Complaining in GW2. It’s becoming a spectator sport.
I actually like the mini-guild idea personally (I haven’t done one yet). When guild halls are implemented it could be one way to allow a little quiet, quality “me time”. A quiet little guild hall to call my own… sigh… with a hot tub. Martin… we need hot tubs.
No one has any idea where Jormag is. There is no proof at all he is closer to Kryta then anywhere else in the north. Not to mention that his minions have never entered Krytan lands and thus have yet to pose any threat to Kryta.
Interesting that you mention the ebb and flow of the centaur wars… cause during that we defeat the current centaur leader everytime. Whens the last leader of the humans been killed by a centaur? I think humans are doing just fine defending themselves at this point.
When isnt there disapproval by some for the actions taken by their leader? Good news is we know who was a prominent force behind it. I think at this point they have a pretty good handle on things on that front.
So again, why do humans need a morale boost at this point? They just finalized a treaty with the Charr which secures even more peach for their lands. They just defeated the only dragon to ever attack Krytan lands in the rememberable past.
Why?
Because the centaurs are still there, still killing people.
Because there are those for whom the scars of war with the Charr run too deep and still try to seek revenge and sabotage the fragile peace.
Because many of them have had loved ones die.
Because other dragons exist, and they don’t care about borders.
Because travelers come from these not so distant lands and tell tales of Icebrood and Sons of Svanir, of the Branded and other creatures corrupted.
And because they’re human.
Hmm… I don’t see one-handed mini-Fellblade replicas in the HoM… I must have missed that achievement.
I wonder what they’ll do next year? Jennah can’t have a 10 year anniversary every year, afterall. Maybe the GW2 anniversary party is gonna change theme and rotate btwn capitals?
Hey, some women have their 39th birthday for years on end, so why not?
Knowing ANet they’ll have something in mind.
There is ‘holding parties’ and there is having a society that seemingly completely forgot dragons exist.
And honestly, we need to get away from LA. Hopefully this is a good start, but not everyone enjoys pirates, pirates, pirates, more pirates, a few more pirates and a ton more pirates. I honestly could not care any less about the on going’s of LA and its people anymore. If I have to save those people 1 more time then they are no longer worth saving.
Yeah. You tell them. Society is completely ignoring that dragons exist. It’s not like they’re having morale raising events about, oh, I don’t know… Bashing dragons or something like that… /sarcasm
In case you forgot, it was at Dragonbash that one of the council members died. Now we’re having an election, and the arrival of the Zephyrites and potential trade agreement would be a nice feather in the cap for whomever secures it.
This is leading into the tenth anniversary of Queen Jenna’s rule so of course she’s going to throw a bash in Divinity’s Reach to celebrate and also raise morale in the face of dragons, centaurs and ministers with nefarious intents.
You mean those centaurs we pushed back, the minister we detained and the dragons that have yet to pose any direct threat to Krytan lands? Right…
I mean the centaurs that keep coming back like the tide, ebbing and flowing, the other ministers that are still plotting for power against the queen and the other dragons that still threaten the lands, including one to the north that’s closer than Zhaitan was in Orr. Thank you for asking, that was very kind of you to seek clarification.
It’s the beginning at least.

Or maybe Roxx = charr reprsentative
Braham = Norn representative
I’m not sure if they’re high enough on the totem pole for that.
how high can the currency stack im thinking tokens as 250(a normal stack now) would still make a problem with space tho not so fast or are they stacking to 999 or more?
There’s no limit, like karma and gold.
They said the orb replacement would be in by the end of the year, not the end of your patience. Let’s let them make sure it’s solid and ready, eh?
And you still believe them? That’s rather…naive. I’m prepared to get dissapointed every patch and so far my expectations have been met.
Naive? Based on experience. When they tell us something is coming it’s because it’s coded, exists, and they intend to deliver. This is their modus operandi. Yes, I believe them, and naivety is not a factor.
Congrats to JQ on their victory. The question now is, who will win second place? My money is on FA (by Money i mean 10silver, yes im poor)
Yeah gratz to JQ. I think the real question is, can EMP can come out from behind their zergs skirts and GvG NS. I’m not in that guild but I know I want to see the fight.
I don’t think EMP does GvGs
EMP figures so prominently in these forums. Are they the best guild on JQ, skill-wise?
I wouldn’t say that… there are many great guilds on JQ skill-wise. It may be that those of us in EMP are simply chattier. Comes with the job… sitting at a computer all day working, peek at the forums, you know how it is.
