You seem to forget that the cash-shop hurts the game meaning less players overtime.
Now that’s one hell of an assertion to throw out there without any supporting evidence. You have something demonstrable to show that the cash shop is hurting GW2?
I did give multiple examples. See the comment bellow it.
I see assertions. Nothing more.
Oh wait… there’s a tidbit of conspiracy theory in there.

Two things I took away from this earnings report:
1. Revenue has finally stabilized for GW2 after steady decline. (Couldn’t tell from Q4 2013 report due to Christmas influence.) Q3 2013 = 24.481, Q1 2014 = 25.142. This is great news!
2. Europe is disappearing as a GW2 revenue source. Q3 2013 = 11.369, Q1 2014 = 5.151. Bye bye European servers!
I am not surprised by the 2. point you’ve made. Soon, it will be China only as both EU/NA will stop playing it, unless there’s something expansion-worthy out.
So let me get this right… if revenue is stabilized overall but decreasing in Europe, wouldn’t that imply revenue has gone up in the U.S.?
“Soon” denotes not so distant future, while what you are referring to is present time and the numbers given above. Let me translate it using simpler language: I proposed a thesis, in which the NA follows in Europe’s footsteps and decreases its playerbase in near future, while it is Chinese players that constinute most of the playerbase. Although the present numbers indicate the decreasing trend only in Europe, it is likely that the same thing happens in the US in the future UNLESS there’s an exp-worthy content, which again may ignite the love-feeling for the game.
Cheers
Oh, ok. You’re making things up instead of following the trends of the existing data.
That clarifies it nicely.

Looking at the report, there was a huge drop in revenue from Lineage 1 compared to the prior quarter, dropping from 74,746 million KRW to 41,019 KRW. GW2 had more a more modest reduction from 33,555 million to 25,142 million (while their focus was pretty heavy on the China release). L2 posted a little less while Aion and B&S showed small increases. “Others” also had a slight increase. Considering the China release isn’t accounted for in there at all I think ANet isn’t in panic mode.
You might want to repost this in the tech support section, you’ll probably find better help there.
Anyone sending nasty PMs over this thread needs to knock it off, regardless of whether or not they’re actually anti-duel or simply a troll taking the thread out for a joyride.
I’m anti-open world duel, that’s why I chose to propose an alternative that would handle dueling far better than “duel me!” and would keep the PvE world (outside of the South Sun Dueling Arenas) duel-free.
Again, I’m still solidly in the “no mount” group. That being that, I don’t think a “hide mounts” option would work… would we see people floating in the air on an invisible mount? Very odd. Instead, let me add to this list a #5…
1. Mounts cannot be used in cities. The local city governments are strongly against the idea of having to clean up the poo of thousands of mounts and the additional logistics that would cause.
2. Mounts should have a speed restriction that caps the fastest mounts at the normal running speed for a player. This removes the potential negative impact on the waypoint system as well as the advantage of having a mount over not having a mount.
3. No flying mounts. No ridiculous mounts (dragons, etc). Moas, dolyaks, these could make sense. A mini Shatterer mount or a centaur mount, not so much.
4. Keep the types of mounts limited, (dolyaks, moas, etc.) but allow for the customization of the mounts to flourish. Different armors (cosmetic) or costumes for your mounts could be available in the Black Lion Trading Post. Mount Makeover kits could be available to customize your mounts appearance (horns, head shape, eyes, beaks, etc.)
5. If a mounted player moved within a certain radius of an NPC outside of the major cities (which wouldn’t allow mounts at all) the player is automatically dismounted.
I’m going to add another:
6. When mounted, skills are changed to mount skills. They’d be simple, Walk, Run (both of which are at the same speed as unmounted), Dismount, maybe something else. No combat skills would be usable when mounted.
But the anti-dueling camp seems like they will not be satisfied with any additional features being added to the game unless there is absolutely no chance it will lead to abuse/harassment…which is completely unrealistic.
Of course, this probably depends on whether they see value in the feature being added, then the risk of harassment becomes a little more acceptable.
SouthSun Dueling Arenas would prevent a significant amount of potential harassment. People with a dueling mindset would gather at the dueling arenas where challenges and the like would be the norm and expected and people that don’t want anything to do with dueling would have the entire game outside the dueling arenas still.
No matter if it be arenas, mist area, or this idea, so long as it is isolated to an area(s) I do not have to visit (if I choose not to) then I would be satisfied to see it added. If duels are implemented to be open world unregulated, then sorry I will take myself and my money elsewhere. I play this game to relax with my friends after work in a friendly environment, not to be constantly barraged by requests to duel or see such happening with others in the middle of an event.
I far and away prefer the current “no duel” system personally. But I understand the sub-populations desire for them. As much as I prefer “no”, I figured why not come up with a way that fits into the lore and style of the game and would still allow the duelists that which they seek?
The Consortium currently has that catch the crab game as a means (dangerous one at that) for the locals to blow off steam. Dueling arenas run by the Consortium would be a perfect fit into the whole scheme of things.
I would wish for an end to global hunger by promoting whirled peas.

I’m strongly against mounts, but I could accept them with a few strict restrictions:

Something like this could be acceptable. However, no mounts at all works just fine for me.
Open world dueling has no place in GW2. It’s simply not that kind of game. PvE is cooperative in nature and dueling goes against that. However, dueling would fit in perfectly in SouthSun under the control of the Consortium. Imagine if there were Queen’s Gauntlet style arenas there where you and one other could, for a few coin of course, purchase access to a time-limited 1v1 fight, allowing for spectators of course. Yes, you’d have to queue up (but enough arenas could alleviate that) and wait your turn, but while waiting you’d be watching other 1v1 matches going on. From there you could organize 1v1 tournaments, allow for a wall to post challenges on (“Mesmer taking on all comers!”), even, if you’re so bold, allow for the two parties (only) to place a small wager on the outcome (a Consortium representative will act as the third party, holding the wager money and paying the winner, minus a small tip of course, and the wager would need to have a low cap, maybe 5g to prevent gold sellers from abusing this as a transfer method). You want to duel someone? Go to the SouthSun Dueling Arenas® and conquer the world!

kitten we’re spoiled. Used to be MMOs would release maybe a months worth of content every four to six months and people would lap it up. Now people are so used to having new things to do every two weeks that withdrawal symptoms are setting in. Perspective people! Perspective!
So how many gold ingots does it take to make one gold coin?
AND HERE IT IS!
Two chunks of gold ore make one gold ingot. Meaning (usually) a 24K brick of gold.
Those gotta be some big-kitten coins.
The size of gold ingots varies. If an ingot in GW2 is based on the smaller size, could take a couple.
Here’s something a little digging on the net found:
“A typical “rich” gold ore assays about a fifth to a tenth of an ounce of gold per ton (3-6 grams per ton). If your bag weighs, say, ten pounds (1/200 of a ton) then the amount of gold in it is probably in the order of 0.015 to 0.030 grams – or at todays massive gold price about $0.40 to $0.80, assuming that you could extract it for free.
Gold ores often contain pyrite, in quantities of up to a few percent. Pyrite looks yellow and metallic, but is made of iron and sulfur. This is probably what you are seeing. Visible gold in hand samples is extremely rare, even in “rich” gold mines.
Interestingly, the pyrite often hosts the gold. Often in processing the first step will be to extract the pyrite and throw away the quartz, then the pyrite will be roasted and leached to extract the gold. The grade of those little pyrite blobs may be as high as an ounce ot two per ton. In other words, when you are looking at the pyrite you are also looking at the gold, in a manner of speaking, but even the pyrite contains less than a hundredth of a percent gold.
As you may have already figured out, the only way that you get rich with gold mining is to do it on a massive scale. If you process 20,000 tons per day of ore, you are playing with a thousand ounces or so of gold per day and have a chance of operating profitably. With a bag of ore… well, it may be interesting, but no more than that."
Seriously, it’s gold ore. You don’t know what percentage of that or is actual gold. Then you have to do the processing of the ore, refine it to the right purity, etc. Ore should be worth much less than the final product it yields.
How much is a barrel of oil? How much is a gallon of gas?
Yes.
So i guess pve dragonite farming died with the megaserver update
. Guess i’ll have to try wvw then, but i have no id what to do there :d.
Make the bad guys go dead.
Yeah, and I remember when he first started, so young and full of energy…
A long, long time ago I had a suggestion to add fishing, but not your boring old WoW style cast and hook. GW2 style fishing. Now, being GW2 style fishing, there should be a few obvious things, such as:
1. When you equip a fishing pole you get a new set of skills. Ideas for this could be…
- Bait/Cast – Bait baits your hook with your choice of bait. More on that later.
Cast: Charge up type of skill. The longer you hold the button the further you cast. - Jiggle – Jiggles the bait to make it more interesting to (hopefully) the fish.
- Set – Sets the hook. Not setting the hook properly could result in your fish escaping.
- Reel – Reel your fish in!
- Thwack – Thwack your target in the head with the fishing pole.
Fishing should, of course, be a leveled discipline. The higher your fishing level the more success at catching fish you’d have. In addition, you’d be able to craft better fishing gear, up to exotic (for now) poles. (Could be some rather nice skins, even a steam-punk style fishing rod.)
Bait. Different fish should require different baits. Baits could be acquired by a variety of means, including gathering nodes (worms form dirt piles or when harvesting “root” types of plants, grubs when chopping wood, unique “bait only” nodes, etc.), cooking, and the Trading Post as well as purchased from vendors. (“Bait” would include mechanical baits, such as lures.)
Tackle boxes. Hey, we need somewhere to store the bait, right? So, have a unique bag slot available that can only store a tackle box. Tackle boxes would be crafted, most likely by the assorted armor crafts, and range up to 20 slots.
Of course, fishing means fish, which means new foods! Cooks, grab the lemon and butter!
And finally, to round this all off, fishing GW2 style would be more than simply catching fish. It would be more… dynamic. You see your pole wiggle, you set the hook and, instead of landing your fifth consecutive trout an event pops up: “Defeat the Rampaging Champion Krait”. Yep, you accidentally hooked a champion Krait, and he’s not amused. Other random event things could involve catching fish for a group of skritt who then take the fish and continue the chain along, etc. There are many ways to rarely kick off new events that stem from simply fishing. Things like hooking a champion would be rare random spawns, but other events (skritt example) could be more common (they ask for help, you do or don’t, yada yada).
But that’s the gist of it there. Fishing GW2 style as I see it, open of course to refinement.

you’d be better off at looking through reddit. major difference is there’s more pay2win there.
They alos have more things locked behind levels. (jumping puzzles/insta death til lv10 etc)http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1wqsf7/guild_wars_2_china_server_difference/
“More” pay to win? There’s no pay to win here as it is. Unless, of course, they’re selling more powerful weapons and gear than you can reasonably get in the game in China, which I would find rather disappointing.
Another thread based on opinion being presented as fact. I guess all this Living story content I thought I was enjoying all this time must have invoked some form of delusional state hiding the fact that I really hated it all along.
Sorry there OP, but the living story is a unique way of injecting new, fresh content regularly into the game in a way that I’ve quite enjoyed and look forwards to.
Look what happened to Defiance. I don’t think anyone even plays/watches it anymore.
New season of Defiance starts in June. Actually looking forwards to it. I don’t play the game however.
Your best friend is a rapper?
The problem is that stealth doesn’t seem to break targeting. On my mesmer I can go into stealth and still be tracked and hit by projectile users, casters, etc even though I’m supposed to be invisible. With the very short stealth time periods mesmers have this greatly damages using stealth as a form of misdirection or avoidance. It’s very annoying.
Silence must fall when the question is asked.
There are 2 problems:
- Cap should be REMOVED
- Items should drop from corpses like in WvW because in timed events there’s no time to watch the ground for loot and even a sound effects or particles if precursor droppedBut IMHO I never understood why in MMOS there’s no full autoloot, lemme just enjoy hitting mobs and stop worrying about looking around spamming F.
One glaring problem immediately comes to mind… what do you do when your bags are full? If it’s full auto-loot you’d either need a background type of message which some people would complain they missed and therefore lost a lot of loot or you’d need a foreground message which some people would complain got them killed when the message got in the way. Then you have the range issue… can you loot that corpse a thousand feet away or do you need to get to a minimum distance, in which case you’re still chasing loot anyhow.
I like how WvW does it. I have the AoE loot set to “L” (for Loot), the loot bags drop at my feet, I hit “L” and collect them. Nice, clean and tidy. If your inventory is full you still see the bags on the ground by you and it’s pretty obvious.
I don’t see the problem. If you’re a brand new player then Orr is something to look forwards to in the future and you can still complete the daily with no problem. If you’re an older player on an alt and really really must do the Orr one for some reason, switch to your 80 and do it.
Out of curiosity, did anyone ever scan through the forums and see an idea posted that was so bad that you found it nearly impossible to believe the poster was even remotely serious?
Just asking.
You know what’s neat when you see a blob of omegas attacking?
Feedback.
Panicked civilian: “Can anyone save this thread?!”
Guardian: “It’s been down too long, there’s nothing I can do.”
Elementalist: “All I’d do is get it wet.”
Necromancer: “I got this.”
Although, that is a good question about being able to transfer the account across like that. I’d be surprised if it were possible but that would be a nice touch. On the flip side, you’d then have an issue of a brand new game with accounts full of level 80s on Day 1, I’m not sure how well that would be received.
ANet missed a potential April Fool’s giggle here… they should have announced that they’re introducing life-sized Zhaitan mounts that move at the speed of the supply dolyaks in WvW.
Oh yeh, I’m sure it will take a long time to expand on the WvWvW specifics mentioned in the blog… oh no wait, my mistake it won’t take more than a sentence will it?
In fact for WvWvW the entire feature patch can be summarized in one sentence. “Nothing to see here”.
Not even sure why you mentioned WvWvW at all in the blog posts because you have nothing to say on it – except that (for the moment) you don’t plan on getting rid of WvWvW homeworlds.
Pointless waste of time and bandwidth. Not even sure why you bothered to post in the WvWvW forums.
Here you go.
“We’ll go into the very specific details about these changes as we approach the launch of this system game-wide, but we wanted to get a head start on messaging this since these are natural questions the addition of our megaserver system raises.”
I’m not sure if you’re troll, but what do you mean you don’t need them? 250 points extra toughness and/or power is not wasted points if you ever fight anyone. Are you saying you never fight other players?
EOTM is 24h karmachamp PvD train so dont need thoughness – bersi better anyway to tag champs
this is what you get when invite only wvwproguilds to beta test a map^^
1. Build siege.
2. Farm the train.
3. Many bags.
Two options.
1. Run back and collect the bags. (This isn’t always feasible.)
2. Respawn as soon as you’re defeated. Any bags that would drop for you still will at your respawn location where you’ll be able to collect them.
It’s easier to do things when you’re not dead.
Take an axe.
Walk up to your front door.
Hit the door, hard. What happens?
Multiply that by forty people, some using magic etc.
Liking almost everything about this, but waypoints should be made free.
Anyone else notice they snuck a “TBD” into the world boss rotation schedule
Im guessing that stands for “The Big Dragon.”
More likely To Be Determined.
It’s been confirmed to be “Tequatl’s Brother, Diego”.
A few answers:
- Gathering nodes are still randomized on every map instance.
Gathering is an important part of income for many players, this change now negates it and the use of infinite gathering tools that you sell.
You cannot expect people to run around trying to find these nodes everytime they enter the map if they change locations constantly.
I do not know the impact such a change will have on the economy, but the supply of these gatherable materials will surely plummet when these maps will be affected by your megaserver implantation.
I humbly suggest you try to find a solution to this. Me, being quite an hardcore gatherer for a long time, this change completly kittens me over.
This certainly sounds ridiculous to me at least. I go to a map, see the nodes on the minimap and go get them. It’s not rocket science, and if you’re trying to make it rocket science you’re doing it wrong.
I hope it’s not a high priority. I have no interest in mini-pet mini-games.
Fortunately for you it won’t be a requirement to play.
Pretty sure that, along with most of the original concepts for GW2 were scrapped a long time ago in favor of the cash shop and LS.
That doesn’t make sense. There could be unique (but not more powerful than available in game) polymock pieces in the shop. There could even be a lighter Living Story arc that leads to the opening of the Polymock arenas that covers a month or two which could involve things like the Consortium conspiring to steal access to the arena for their own purposes, events to gain our first few polymock pieces, etc.
Gotta catch ’em all!
I’m definitely hoping for this.
“Another problem for me is that the distribution of unique support/control is nearly non existent.”
Care to explain it?
I meant that there is not a single class that is superior to others with support or control effects.
There are not many support/control things that a class is superior enough compared to other classes.
If you want might stacks for your party then most professions can buff it.
For me it feels like the professions are missing something to support the group in a unique way.
There shouldn’t be. Every class should be able to contribute to support and/or control in their own ways and all should be viable. In WvW I have a support/control heavy mesmer for example. I prevent a lot of damage from reaching allies with reflects and blinds, help remove conditions from allies and boons from foes, add conditions to foes and boons to allies, deal direct and indirect damage, it’s a good, supporting build to help the group out. Why would it make sense for me to be pushed out of that build because on paper it looks like someone else does support/control mathematically better than I do?
I remember my paladin tank from a few years ago.
Taunt.
Cycle through skills 1 – 5, alternating between 9 and 6 second cooldown skills.
Yeah, that would really liven things up in GW2, eh?
From the GW2 Beta Event Jon Petersen confirmed they want to add open world dueling. From the chatlog:
Now with mega server technology, open world dueling is my most requested feature!
In world dueling, not open world dueling. An arena type setting would cover this nicely without going against the cooperative world concept.
Read it again. He means open world by “in world”. The first thing he talks about is “empty servers, pvp ones”, thats the system that currently exist. cheers:)
Right. He’s talking about the sPvP servers that people can use (and now there are private servers which work even better). In world can be as simple as going to Southsun to a Consortium run dueling arena (as opposed as having to leave the world to go to the Mists).
But Southsun is part of the open world. It’s an open world map.
Yes, however an arena type setting (think Queen’s Gauntlet as a model to work from) could be accessed in Southsun. It would be “in world” in the sense that you don’t have to go to the PvP areas (the Mists) to get to it. It would provide a “pocket” of PvP separated from the actual PvE coded areas so you’d greatly reduce the risk of bugs slipping through. And with that, you could go all out adding things like I mentioned before – challenge boards, tournaments, even rankings and leader boards that display in the arena area for all to see. Plus, it would bring Southsun a renewed surge of activity.
(edited by VOLKON.1290)
Firm vote against allowing open world dueling…..it alters the already established co-op flavor of the open world game. With the plans laid out by the Megaserver project, it seems obvious they want to reinforce this, not destroy it.
That being said, I have no issue with a dedicated instance area that allows dueling, but I do not condone a huge amount of design resources be directed at this development (but that’s not our call). As long as I never have to enter the area, more power to you.
This area wold make much more sense under the WvW sphere of control as I venture 90% of the players that want this are already WvW players. I’m not sure why this would even be associated with the PvE open world at all.
Although I’m inclined to agree, I could see it being tied to the open world under control of, say, the Consortium in Southsun. To entertain the masses they set up a dueling arena area with all the bells and whistles – people could post or accept general challenges on a board (“Mesmer looking to take on all comers!” for example), people could create private challenges with someone specific, even tournaments could be organized and held as events with prizes. Instead of having the crappy open world style dueling (yes, my opinion) you could create an area that builds an entire dueling community.
~ Portable Doors: Player Housing anywhere! (thread by Mad Queen Malafide.7512)
How about a Transitory Accessible Ready Domicile In Situ device? You’d have a little blue box you could craft and take with you and place down anywhere to access your home, and believe me, it’s much bigger on the inside.
I think we’re long overdue for a Polymock CDI.
So it almost looks like they’ve found ways to add something similar to server merges, but only during slow times for the servers. Clever.
Hey, have we had any “server merge proves the game is dying” threads yet? I haven’t had a chance for a good face palm today.
